10 Best Tire Traction Mats (2022 Updated)

Haven’t had to use them yet but after inspecting them my 23 years as an Army Engineer tell me that they should at least do well in assisting you out of a small regular vehicle recovery. Would be nice if they were a little longer though, course then storage would be an issue in most regular vehicles.

While I don’t look forward to getting stuck I do look forward to seeing what they can do in the future.

I’ve seen a number of reviews elsewhere, but they all seem to be from people who just bought them and say “they look like they’ll work. ” That’s not a review, that’s optimism. So here’s my review from someone who just used these, 2 minutes ago in my driveway (don’t ask): They work, but are not a miracle device.

You still need to make sure that other conditions are favorable to assist them. Clear snow from under the vehicle, from the path of all four tires in both directions, and make sure that the edge of the mat is firmly wedged where both drive wheels will grip them.

If they don’t work, try putting them on the other way (facing forward or facing backward). Rock the car back and forth gently (don’t overwork the tranny), reposition the mats to take advantage of any small gains you make (such as if you’re stuck in an ice well but just about make it over the edge before stopping) if you don’t get it out right-away.

Doing this, I was able to get my old Tercel with minimal ground clearance out of an icy Maine rut on the side of the driveway (again, don’t ask).

I received four of these for Christmas. I asked for them because I have a 1/4 mile long driveway, and it is easy to slide into the deep snow. I used them three times and they helped me get out of the deep snow, but the third time, two of them snapped in half.

I really hoped I wouldn’t have a chance to review these, if you know what i mean, but alas, I do, and they were amazing! I have a front wheel drive Rav4 with decent tires, but the temps had been below 0F for several days, and I parked on a slope while ice fishing.

I am assuming the tires were a bit warm when getting there, and they melted the frozen snow some, and made it a challenge to go up the slope and get out of the hole. I threw these little guys on and boom, right out I went.

Snow was about 4″ deep around that area, and these still bit in nicely, getting me out of the spot I put myself in. I hope I won’t need them again, but I know if I do, I can rescue myself and save either a friend having to bail me out lol or a tow fee :).

I couldn’t get my fully loaded trailer with cord wood out of the woods and up the hill because of the ice and snow. I went out and picked up these Trac-Grabbers at Cabelas. And about five minutes after getting back to the trailer in the woods I had them strapped to my trucks tires.

Real easy install. I climbed right out of the woods and up the hill with no issues. Super happy with this product! Would definitely recommend.

A very good product to use when stuck, but you need to listen to the instruction very well, the instructions arent there to make you go slower or hinder you experience with the product, the instructions are there to make the product work the best and not break.

The first of the two most important instructions are to keep your wheels straight, they say this but dont give you a reason, and the reason is if you turn your tires too much with these on it can damage your cars tire well and everything around it, and can break the trac grabbers as well.

The second is to go slow with these on, if you put the trac grabbers on and floor it you are an idiot for thinking there not gonna break, you need to slowly crawl out of wherever your stuck. It even works a lot better when you do that, AND if you are flooring it and they somehow dont brake you will dig your self deeper.

Ive seen too many bad 1 star reviews about these. And I cant understand why, Im only assuming its because people cant follow directions and get cranky when the product fails and they cant seem to understand why.

Ive used these countless times after getting my Jeep stuck in some bad mud and have had no problems whatsoever with them.

Have not had a chance to use, so might need to get stuck on purpose to determine how good they work for adding traction. Seem very sturdy, especially based on weight and metal thickness.

Excellent depiction of product. A friend used these same traction devices when I got stuck in fresh dirt turned to mud. Immediately I was able to get traction and proceed on my way. I bought two to keep in my rig for future emergency situations.

Was exactly what the ad said it was. It came with screws, which was nice, installation instructions, a brochure and a Caliber sticker. Quality looks good, it was easy to install. Be sure to follow their instructions and install the traction mat while it is warm.

I can imagine that it may not flex that easily when cold. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and am waiting for some snow, so I can test this out when I load my sleds on the trailer! Cheers!.

These are a must-have for your snowmobile trailer. They don’t wear out. If you can, install them in warmer weather. The nice thing is that they come with screws and the bit for installing on your trailer – it only takes about 10 minutes to install.

Simply unroll, let them flatten out and screw down. Done!.

My wife was having a problem parking in our garage. The garage is a tight fit for two cars and she was always getting to far in, which limited access to storage. After installing this mat she parks perfect every time.

I installed it using concrete screws through the provided mounting holes. Liked it so much bought a second one for our vacation home.

Smaller than it seems on the pictures, but does the job excellent!!! I don’t stick it to the floor with adhesive on the bottom, after all nobody drives into garage and then slams on the brakes, hoping small mat to stop them from hitting the wall.

It gives a hint ‘almost there’ when on 1st bump, then car rolls into slot and higher bump stops it exactly where needed. Highly recommend.

It’s really light weight , I expected it to be heavier. Can they really expect the small piece of two sided tape to hold it in place ? I noticed that they put in 4 screw holes in the mold , but did not supply any screws and inserts to hold it to the cement floor.

The two sided tape is only good for placing it in a spot so you can better positioning it for a few days to find the perfect spot. Before you drill your small holes to hold it. Then I will go out and get some fasteners to screw it down.

Haven’t had to use them, but compared to other models they appear to be made out of a material that you can use more than once (being soft rubber instead of the brittle hard panels), it has grips on both sides for traction.

Has a handle, and relatively compact. My SO carries his in his work backpack, as he drives for FedEx and sometimes weather can get unpredictable.

Seem to be very nice. Bought these to keep in my Jeep Commander for a trip to the Outer Banks (recommended by wild life officers to carry some style of these, a fire extinguisher and a shovel). I was in a 4×4 only area Never had to use them they are still in their holder in the back of the jeep for emergencies.

some of my friends advised me to get the rubber style instead of the plastic style. Can’t really comment much on how well they do or don’t work.

This product is very helpful. It is durable enough for any vehicle, easy to store and is very easy to use. I would have given five stars but I do wish they were a little bit longer. Your vehicle will gradually move forward but you must place mat, move a little and replace the mat, very tiring if you are alone.

In short I highly recommend the product but see if you can get a longer version if those are available. If not this will do fine still. in snow and ice, mud (within reason), have not tried on sand but I’m sure it will work fine.

WHile I have used them Last Winter and now on our Frozen Lake. I take my Snow Mobile out on the back of my PUp Truck to the Lake 12 miles from the hse. When I get ot the Lake and before Driving out on it with the Truck, I put these on my Rear Tires, then drive on out on the Frozen lake, then park it and unload my SnowMoBile on a Piece of 3 ft x 8ft 5/8ths Plywood( super Sealed extra with Sealer and go riding on the lake and its 33 miles long and hit 5 Taverns for food and Fun with other Local guys.

and Both Sides with Floor Tile and glued on) Then GO Riding on the 22 Mile Long and 44 mi around the Lake with 5 Taverns and Resturants with the Guys and do some racing, etc. and some have OD BrBQues going on and SB Shows by Dealers.

other have Sled On show for Sale ( Used ) and you can test ride them right there. About the Best Lake for this stuff around the State. Well worth the Small Price to keep them in your Car or truck for the Winter if only Use very Little, if using them alot? ( Plowing, etc) Best get Full Tire Chains.

We got 4 Inch snow and the Lake is Frozen to 8-12″ ice, gotta Go- Being Retired lets me do this alot.

Used the product to aid a stuck neighbor who driven into a snow covered ditch. They were out in minutes and no need to call for a tow. I keep in my truck at all times.

Started dumping snow so purposefully got stuck in a big drift. Shape and lugs are way better than maxtraxx. A million times better than X Bull. I don’t do a lot of bridging so I could care less about tensile strength.

I used these to get unstuck. Great purchase.

Went out and got stuck pretty bad in a mud hole this weekend. After using the handles to dig out from under the front of the tires to reduce the angle of the climb, they hooked up and gave just enough momentum to get us out.

Some treads are melted and bent but for the most part they are still in decent shape. I’d recommend buying two sets for reassurance, especially if you’re wheeling alone with no winch. 4 stars because I’ve only used them once and can’t speak with confidence as far as their durability.

Long story short, they worked.

Bought them to get my Jeep out of a sticky situation if needed. Ended up using them to help get a full size suburban out of a jam. These didn’t disappoint. Held up fine under the weight of the suburban in deep sand.

We bought the standard GoTreads in black during their EOY sale in 2022. We specifically bought them because we have been stuck due to ice/mud more than once, and we have a 6 month RV trip coming up. Last week, we found ourselves stuck in our storage spot due to ice beneath our tires combined with a hard snow ridge in front of the vehicle.

We were able to use the GoTreads as directed. It took two tries, but on the second try the treads gripped into the snow in front and allowed us to get out of our spot. I don’t think they would work on pure ice as the tread would not have anything to “catch”, but this was what we needed.

I definitely feel better about carrying these, and the design does seem smart compared to some of the other options out there. Our RV is about 4. 5 tons, in case that helps anyone determine if these will work for them.

It may be my fault but product did not work at all. FedEx van stuck in my very compacted gravel driveway that needed to back up, not go forward as seen in your videos. Going forward was blocked by stone wall and tree.

Trying to go backwards only result in the gotreads being pulled forward and underneath the van. Regardless of how they were placed same result – pulled forward providing zero use. If I could have had the van go forward perhaps they would have worked.

They are useless for trying to move backwards. Very disappointed. Keeping them to see if they work this winter in snow though at this point I fully expect them to fail forward or backward. Yes I looked at many YouTube videos of proper use and read all I could find.

Basically they do not work trying to back up. This flaw is not noted anywhere in videos or written material.

These are the most versatile pieces of off-road gear. There are so many uses for them and they are a must have for your off-road kit. You can use them as leveling blocks, jackstand base plates, and they are the easiest thing to use to get you unstuck, we all know we get stuck from time to time and having this product is a must! they are extremely durable and very well-made and I love the options that you can extend them if needed.

I personally have used them many times to help friends get unstuck before I went to grab the winch, take a small hole throw these bad boys down easy on the gas and Out you go!!!.

This is a great to have in your vehicle in case you get stuck. It has everything you need to get your vehicle unstuck if you happen to get stuck off-road or in the mud or whatever. My favorite thing in the whole kit is the two heavy duty traction mats, these you can place under your tires to get some traction when you get stuck in the mud or soft ground, these look to be very strong and easy to use and have a good texture that should be able to get you unstuck in a jiffy, the kid also includes a recovery strap with 20,000 lb rating, perfect for someone to pull you out, there’s a four in one folding shovel that’s easy to assemble and includes a pic a shovel a saw a bottle and can opener.

The can opener part seems similar to the old military style p-38 can opener. This might be a good tool to take camping. Included in the kit is also an emergency light to signal other drivers that comes with all of the batteries included in the case there’s also a good pair of heavy duty grip gloves that would be handy to use in extraction.

It seems like a well thawed out compilation of tools needed in order to get you back on the road in case you get stuck off road. I keep this in my van as I have gotten stuck in the mud a few times it gives me peace of mind that I will be able to get back on the road quickly safely and easily.
