20 Best Toads For Pets (2022 Updated)

First off: the quality of the product is without question. It is great and good company practices. You do get what you pay for, but it is really hard to pay for for the majority of people. I actually first discovered this when I was volunteering (and using for myself) the local food bank, and the pet supply store donated some venison flavour that just expired.

My cat loved it, I used it as a chow topper (~1/4 scoop over his other chow). He’s a long, lithe, 14lb tabby who is outside a lot. When I discovered how expensive it was I switched to the lamb, the 2.

2lb bag subscription, and bought it when he would lose weight in the summer otherwise because it is so calorie dense. If I fed him exclusively this food, I would spend more to feed him per month than I do for myself (and I am a chef).

Some caution for purchasers: cats are notoriously picky eaters and may not like some flavours. This is really frustrating if you just spent over $50 on a bag of food. If your cat is a weirdo like mine who only likes “wild” sorts of meats like venison, salmon, pheasant, rabbit, etc but HATES chicken, turkey, and whatever “whitefish” they put in foods, then you are in luck with the venison or lamb.

If your cat is the generic chicken eater, try that (but be aware that mussels are in there too, for those finicky non-seafood kitties). Find a rich friend who will let you mooch a baggie to try on your cat first if you can.

Also remember, cats may take a day or two to adjust to anything new in their bowl, regardless of taste.

I ordered a 5. 5 lb bag of this Ziwi Peak Venison Air-Dried Dog food from another vendor and it showed up grey/dry/brittle. I ordered the same 5. 5 lb bag from Chewy and it was softer and my puppy loved it.

He thought he was getting something special. News for him, this is his main food now. He’s a small thing so I can afford to make this his regular food. I did change my auto-ship to the 2. 2 lb bags – 3 of them, for a total of 6 lbs of food, for the same price as the 5.

5 lb bag. I am thinking the food will be even fresher. Afterall, how many people could be ordering the 5. 5 lb bag. I am guessing more people order the smaller bags as treats vs regular food. It’s crazy you get a half pound of food more for a few more dollars overall.

I did email Zizi about the other batch of food. They responded – they are aware of the dry/brittle complaints and are working to address it. They have new hardware for cutting the food coming in. They are also changing the air-drying process so the food isn’t as dried out.

So you’ll see an improvement in their air-dried food this coming year. I’m so glad they are reading their customers feedback and are making drastic changes to make people happy.

The toad house is bigger than I expected and the ‘bath’ very shallow so it won’t hold water for long once the toad decides to sit in it! I was disappointed that the hole for the ‘frog ornament’ in the top of the house was not drilled out.

However I have carefully drilled a hole. Overall it is a sturdy little home with a ‘pool’ for a toad or two. Well molded from a light color terra- cota, hopefully attractive to house-hunting toads and hidden in a shady spot in my garden.

This is a great gift idea for my best friend who had a pond with lots of toad visitors. It was a hit and we can’t wait for warm weather to put it out!

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this item after learning from other reviews that the paint was dry/clumpy. I took a chance and bought it anyway, and I’m glad I did! My children enjoyed expressing their creativity in their unique ways.

The paint dried quickly. The turtles now have a new home in my flower garden!.

ummm!!!! I’m hoping your prices are WRONG!! Please fix all of the rock pets that are priced wrong. I got the same ROCK PETS same brand, same box, model number, same everything. I bought the same elsewhere for anywhere between $6 dollars up to maybe $11 dollars and some change at the most.

I’ve seen many items on this app where products are priced very high. Some items way out of control. Insanely. Who would pay $33 dollars for a frog rock pet that goes for under $6 dollars elsewhere? Unless they are marked over priced cause it’s all about greed.

Definitely an over priced item and to top it all off, I wish I had read the other reviews first, because my package also had paint that was completely dried up. The granddaughters, 3 and 5 cried because they couldn’t paint them.

Luckily I happened to have paints they could use. I truly would like my money back. DEFINITELY DO NOT PURCHASE ANY OF THESE PET ROCK ITEMS AS I AM SURE THAT YOUR PAINT WILL BE COMPLETELY DRIED UP TOO.

While we had a negative experience with the lamb mackerel for both dogs (diarrhea), the regular Lamb and otago valley formulas have been great. Mini goldendoodle enjoying the lamb formula- he’s notorious for being picky, and my pomapoo (who loves fishy things) enjoys the otago valley one which has 5 meats and 2 fishes.

Never a piece left behind- both bowls licked clean. Definitely recommend transitioning slow or with pumpkin supplement. My pomapoo has no choice as she either has food allergies to all feathered things or epilepsy(on meds, not convinced it’s epi but need confirmed allergy testing done) so this is a great option for both allergic and epileptic dogs that need low glutamate and or limited ingredient diets.

Excellent product. Worth the $ if you can afford it.

I was attracted to this food because of the high quality ingredients, but if it’s too hard to eat, all those great ingredients are wasted. These little pellets are hard as shoe leather! I make a soupy mix of ingredients for my cats using broth or water with a tiny bit of butter, with some freeze-dried raw food, a bit of canned food, and their nutrients and ut health powder.

I soaked these bits for hours in the fridge, but they’re still very tough. If my cats are very hungry they’ll swallow the bits whole, but most often they eat everything else and leave these. This food is far too expensive to go to waste.

I had high hopes for this cat food, but sadly I won’t purchase again and can’t recommend. If they could make the bits chewable I’d try it again.

I have a Dalmatian who has formed stones, and I have had trouble finding dental chews with the right ingredients. And without the wrong ones. These fit the bill, and my boy loves them. It’s too early to tell if they help his teeth and breath, but it’s nice to have a safe option for him that lasts longer than a biscuit.

He does get them down completely in about the same length of time as my girl takes with her Purina Dentalife. Which is not very long. But he chews them, and enjoys them, so I will continue to feed them.

My dog, Toby loves all the RedBarn foods we have purchased for him. He is grain free and eats the dry as well as the logs. At first we thought the food was kind of expensive until our new Vet advised that this food was so nutrient dense that we had been over feeding him.

We was giving him 2 1/2 inches of the log and 2 cups of the dry food a day. He weighs 96 pounds. Our Vet said to still give him 2 cups of dry but only 1 inch of the log a day. Now 1 log will last him 12 days where as before it only lasted less than 5 days.

What a difference it has made. He did weigh 107 and is now down to 96 pounds. Can’t wait to see how much more he has lost. He will be 9 in November and he is already moving around so much better. We can tell he feels better.

My 6 year old Aussie’s teeth were acquiring a lot of tartar; a friend said that these cleaned up her dog’s teeth so it seemed cheaper than a doggie dentist visit and no anesthesia. I gave her one of the large horned toad chews every other day for a week and the tartar was gone anther gums were a nice healthy pink.

Now I give her one or two a week (I buy the 25 count package and her teeth are beautiful. ). She loves these and it takes her about 10minutes to eat one. (That’s really slow for her; you’d think we never feed her.

)Strongly recommend.

I received four male American toads. Two of them were skinny and I was concerned for their health and immediately offered food. A couple of the toads ate, but one of the skinny ones did not. He appeared especially emaciated and became ill within the day; he can no longer walk, he has no energy and his eyes at points glazed over as if he were going to die.

He’s still alive but not thriving and will likely die. I partially covered him in leaf litter to keep him warm and moist. The other three are okay. I’m very concerned and distraught about the condition of the two skinny toads on arrival and this one who appears seriously shocked and ill.

I’m concerned about the welfare of the toads that Carolina catches and ships. They were shipped in a container with white sponges; no moss or any natural features to lessen the stress of shipping.

The toads arrived healthy and in fine condition, larger than I expecter. The delivery man left them on my porch with the wrong side up and I didn’t get a notification right when they were delivered, but they seemed uninjured and in nice packaging.

One is not eating but I suspect they are about to hibernate.

I ordered the medium sized bag, since I wanted to give it as a late night treat go my German Sheppard. The size is perfect and she chewed on it for a while. Nubs takes her about 3 min, this took her about 10min to chew.

Excellent quality and she likes the taste. The price is great for the amount I got. The list of ingredients is very clean.

I discovered the Stanley Jigs Ribbit Hollow Body Top Toad just prior to the 2018 Bass season in Ontario Canada. I fish a lot of heavy back water swamps and shallow water in the Lake Ontario water systems for largemouth.

Prior to using the Top Toad my Bass surface fishing lure selection consisted of either a prop bait or the traditional surface rubber frog. I’m an experienced angler who has tried and owns almost every type of Bass surface lure on the market.

I probably also own a surface frog from every manufacturer in the industry. Like most anglers who use the traditional surface frog consisting of a hollow body, double hook and filament legs design, I have experienced lots of strikes with a significant number of misses.

Even when I learned to be more patient and employ the “two count” system I still experienced my fair share of misses. Don’t get me wrong these surface frogs are hard to beat in the heavy weed and slop coverage.

However, when I starting using the Top Toad my ratio of strike to hook-ups improved radically. I now seldom miss a strike and when it does occur it is usually during a momentary lapse in concentration.

The Bass seem to really hammer this bait that can be thrown to any place the traditional surface frog can be fished. I have even started throwing it to places where I would not normally throw the surface frog for fear of getting badly snagged.

I throw them to small pockets deep inside large areas of pencil reeds. Since finding this bait I can’t remember using any other heavy slop surface lure for bass. Oh, ya, I ran out of these top toads due to all the strikes I was getting and had to grudgingly go back to the traditional toad.

All of my fishing buddies have now turned on to the Top Toads. Several even grabbed them from my box during local tournaments and refused to return the baits until the tournament was over. We were unable to find the lure at the local Bass Pro (where I first discovered them) and ordered 20 just to ensure we would not run out.

Some anglers complain the legs break off quicker that traditional filament legs. Even though I have experienced leg breakage, it only occurred after being frequently struck by a large number of bucket mouths.

I have even started to keep the leg less toads so I can melt new legs onto the bait using a butane mini torch because these baits are so successful. These top toads and my jigs are the two most important Bass baits in my arsenal.

I find them extremely deadly in September here in Canada when the big largemouths have moved into shallow weeds looking for big bait in an effort to fatten up for the winter.

Been fishing the Ribbit Toad in Bullfrog color. I have seen a few reviews saying it flips over and they get tore up. Fished this bad boy tonight for about an hour. Had about 15 hits. Landed 5 good fish over 3 pounds and one around 5.

This lure was tore up. I hooked it on upside down, hooked it 1/2″ behind the nose because the nose was destroyed. All this was after fishing it the day before and catching 3 smaller fish, several hits and super gluing it back together today.

So 8 fish, well over 20 hits. Finally lost it in a tree or I would have taken a picture of this destroyed lure still catching fish. Was wanting to super glue it back together one more time and see how many fish I could catch before it became unusable.

Not bad for a plastic that costs a little over $2. Will need to buy some more of these bad boys.

used ribbits until the top toad came out. this is a great frog. good weight for casting, great double hooks for weedless fishing, and a flexible body for easy hookups. i fish several days a month, and these frogs get a workout.

use a dab of glue on the nose if fish pull the keeper out (and it will happen) these are soft and they will not last forever. green/yellow or the white (dip feet in yellow garlic) seem to be favorite of toledo bend bass.

The Gambler Cane Toad is one of those baits that really flies under the radar. It’s ribbed design creates a lot of drag and displaces a lot more water than the more streamlined soft plastic frogs. I use it primarily in the spring and have caught several 5lb+ bass with it.

I rig it with a #5 wide gap worm hook (think Texas style without the weight) and just barely bury the hook tip. It can be used on the surface or let it sink. Pump then wait a couple seconds then pump again.

The ribs will stop the bait after the pump. That’s when I get my hits. Great action. Black seems to be the consistent color. I usually fish it around 1-2 ft deep. Don’t open the bag in the house, Bass like the smell but you might not.

After using these, I can honestly say that I will probably never use any other topwater lures. Bass just destroy them.

This is an awesome bait. The thinness of it makes it so easy to buzz it on the top of the water, and if one strikes it short, just let off a bit, let it sink a few inches and when you reel again the legs have great kicking action that brings ’em right back to it! I live in Central Florida and the Florida Five-O (of course) and the peppergrass are money.

Do like one guy who posted earlier says and don’t buy one bag, get at least two. They do tear apart after a couple of fish or if you are throwing in heavy junk. But their fish catching prowess will let you overlook this detail.

Green Pumpkin Chartreuse Laminate is the color that the Largemouth Bass in our pond go crazy over. This frog may lay in the water for less than 30 seconds with a twitch and a jerk then the water EXPLODES ! I also use the same color on the river with the same results.

If there’s Bass around they will eat this bait.

I used this rigged frog bait for a couple seasons now. The buzzbait type action this lure produces is awsome. Fish crush it and dont let go. Its highly weedless and will bring fish out of cover. Ive caught bass, pike, and scored a small musky on it last season.

Use a wide gap hook for best results and wait it feel the fish before setting the hook. Also when fishing lilly pads and floating grass mats, drag it over pockets and stop your retrieve. The frog will slowly sink, giving the fish more than enough time to nail it.

With strike king having the super plastics in its arsenal, i dont know why they havent made this lure in that format which would increase its durability but they are relativly durable by themselves. If they would upgrade to the superplastic format, they would be perfect.

Get a few packs and hold on tight! They will slam this lure.

Works well on heavier weighted buzzbaits with a good bait holder. On lighter buzzbaits it tends to roll.

This frog is great. He is on the pathway of my entrance and everyone comments on it. They live him. He is whimsical,extremely large. He is a Great bargain. I looked a long time to find him and he was worth all the hours if texearch.

We were new to adopting a reptile this year. I am the person who believes every living being should be treated as I would want to be treated. When we first purchased Cupid, our leopard gecko, he was in an aquarium with fake carpet, fake wood, plants etc.

No way, no how could I allow this beautiful lil creature live in a “fake” world. I found the bio dude through google. We have bought many things now, including the 12x12x12 terrarium. The aquarium he was in, I noticed mold starting to grow.

The depth is perfect for the extra soil for the plants to grow, yet remains dry enough to prevent mold/mildew. We have two cats, so the features of the dbl glass doors that lock & also the option of opening from the top with locking screens.

There is nothing about this terrarium we do not love. His home is flourishing, he’s healthy, happy & growing so fast. The only thing I wished I would’ve done differently was to buy a larger terrarium the first time.

I highly recommend BioDude for your reptiles needs & their customer support is awesome. Not only are they on top of your orders, but are wonderful with helping answer care questions. I feel they care as much about our Leopard Gecko as much as we do.

I will never spend hard-earned money on ANY Exoterra product again. Heed this warning, the company DOES NOT stand behind their products. I have had this terrarium for approximately a year. It was designed for dart frogs, which do not require an external heat source when room temperatures are steady between 72-75 degrees.

They first attempted to blame their issue on a heater, which I do not have, their opinion now is that the cracks don’t exist. I have hairline fractures and full crack on 2 of 4 sides and the bottom of the tank.

I have been in contact with the company for over a week trying to get the issue resolved. Needless to say, after a week of silence, my second response from the company was “ From the photos it looks more like scratches than actual cracks in the glass.

I am not sure if that is due to the stand underneath the tank causing the view to appear in that manner, or not. ” I have had to tear down a huge investment, rehome my beloved frogs, and am now left with a sad excuse for a tank.

I am disgusted!.

I have all of my reptiles in exo terra tanks (5) I have two 18x18x24, one 18x18x18, and two 36x18x18 (in inches) and they have all lasted pretty well. The lip at the bottom makes it perfect for bioactive because it can handle quite a bit of substrate and is waterproof.

My only complaint is that you REALLY have to double check that the doors are closed all the way. Even if it feels closed, DOUBLE CHECK! I have caught my reptiles pushing open the doors because they weren’t closed all the way on multiple occasions.

Other than that, these are pretty solid tanks. I just wish they came in bigger sizes so I could use them as lifetime tanks for my bigger animals.

Contains plenty of moss, makes a great terrarium floor as it has a soil side and a top side unlike other mosses that attach to rocks/wood.

Turns yellow and dies after 2 days no matter what you do

My African dwarf aquatic frog, Philleas Frog, loves this. We have a little feeding routine. With a loud greeting, which he seems to hear, I tap gently on his aquarium, he come to my finger, then I tap the container on the side of the aquarium, and he goes crazy with anticipation.

A couple of pinches of the food, which floats on the surface, makes a meal. It’s the only thing he’ll eat.

I keep a water garden outside my window and every year the green tree frogs lay their eggs inside. It’s very enjoyable seeing them transform and jump out in a few months. For the past three years, this food has kept them healthy and growing and it doesn’t mess with the water.

With only an air stone, the water maintains a healthy ph, low nitrates/nitrites and very little algae (Japanese Trapdoor Snails help out in that regard) while housing hundreds of tadpoles through summer.

I have two African Dwarf Frogs that are in a 10 gallon tank along with a male betta and a mystery snail. When the frogs were new, they were extremely shy, and they were hesitant to eat. I would leave frozen blood worms in a terracotta dish outside their little hideout but was not sure if they were eating much of the worms.

I also assumed that my betta would eat at least some of those worms even though he was well fed. I bought this frog food for three reasons: 1. it sinks (no-brainer); 2. I could strategically place it; and 3.

I did not think my betta would like it all that much. The product has worked exactly as expected. It indeed sinks, and I can take it from the surface and let it slowly sink to the terracotta. I add a bit around the bowl, too, as the frogs like to scavenge.

It doesn’t take much to feed them. The betta turns his nose up to these, thankfully. If the frogs aren’t out at night I can just drop a few pellets into the bowl then turn out the lights and know the frogs will find it overnight.

This container is huge; it is going to last me a long, long time even if I feed my frogs nightly. This has also helped them to get used to where they will be fed. Now I can use a turkey baster and feed them worms straight from the baster and provide them variety along with these pellets.

I would guess these would work exceptionally well in outside ponds or with lots of frogs. I am very satisfied.

I’ve tried all kicker leg style hollow bodies and this one’s the best so far. Hook up ratio is very good. Caught 6 keepers first time out and it’s holding up well. This frog is best suited for flat pads, pea soup, light scum and open water.

It does not do well in the thick pads and real nasty stuff. I only gave it 4 stars because its makes a huge splash and if I skipped it under docks the hooks would come off the body.

This is one of the best top water frogs I have used make a lot of noise so when going thru pads or trash it is easy for fish to follow. I throw this before anything else in the morning or cloudy days.

It catches fish and that’s what counts! The lure’s unique paddles create a life like motion in the water. It is an excellent top water, swim bait.

One toad may be just as good as the other. I really couldn’t say because this is the first toad I’ve ever fished and I’m just getting the hang of it. I have used it primarily around overgrown weed beds.

This bait has drawn a lot of strikes but my ineptitude at setting the hook led to me missing a giant smallmouth. I did get a look at him as he jumped out of the water twice before spitting the hook. The good thing about this toad is that it can be fished like a buzzbait.

I have also dropped it in wood structure to draw some good strikes on the splash. It’s definitely a lure that will tempt bigger bass to hit either on retrieve or initial splash. If I ever get the hang of waiting and then setting the hook hard, I anticipate catching a lot of bigger bass with it.

One problem is that if its not on the hook completely perfect it is likely to swim back to you upside down which leads to a lot of snagging in grass.

Received 4 leopard frogs and they are great. I have set up a large aquarium to resemble their natural habitat and enjoy watching them. Only drawback is they eat live food but once you get past the thought these frogs will entertain you.

They have even started ‘calling’ which is a unique experience!!.

Frogs arrived on schedule and in good condition. They were also well sized and worked well in the labs they were intended for.
