20 Best Torpedo Laser Level (2022 Updated)

This has to be the fanciest little level that I have ever seen! The milled billet really feels great in your hand and the weight in this thing was actually quite surprising. That is no doubt due to the serious magnets which really make this thing stick like glue to ferrous metals.

Opposite the magnet (flat) side, there is a nicely channeled section which will really help when truing pipe. One of the best things was the light. Until this level, I hadn’t realized how often I end up straining to read the bubble in low-light situations.

With a quick snap of the switch, this baby glows like a lava light.

I work in the pipe trades and am constantly working in poorly lit areas. I bought this level for its illumination capability. The level worked great. well lit, easy to read. My problem is when I accidentally dropped it from waist height, the plastic battery cover cracked.

causing the batteries not to stay in place. I rated this low because I’m disappointed in the cheap design from a very reputable tool manufacturer, especially at this price point for a torpedo level.

Very handy little level! Although it’s small in size, the features more than make up for it. Very heavy duty and durable, etched edges so that it won’t slip around when using it. Has grooves on the long edge to aid in leveling pipes as well.

It does have a light (batteries included!) but it isn’t very bright. It took shutting off all the lights in a room before we could even see the slight glow and that led me to wonder why a person would be leveling in the complete dark.

Other than that, it’s great!.

So, this level is pretty good quality and definitely helps in a lot of situations, especially bending conduit. 3 stars for a few reasons- 1- I had to Dremel the on/off button to sit below flush because the thing turns itself on ALL THE TIME.

In my bag, in my pocket, etc. Inevitably it kills the battery sooner and the fact the designers didn’t think about this probably knowing this level would really be used by tradesman in a cramped toolbox/bag kind of makes me wonder what they were thinking.

2- I returned one because the bubble would be in different positions depending on it’s orientation, not exactly great for accuracy. The 2nd one I got was better in this regard. Overall the digital aspect of it works pretty good and is accurate with the bubble when calibrated correctly.

The problem on the first one I had was calibrating it then have it off when the level was flipped over due to the machining error. If the button was fixed and assuming the first ‘off’ 1 I received was just a fluke, this would be a 5 star product -IBEW electrician.

This quickly became my favorite laser tool. Why? It’s fast and simple to use. 1. The red laser is very bright. You can easily see it at 50+ feet. 2. It provides both a horizontal laser line and a laser point.

3. It can be attached to a tripod or you can use it with the supplied leveling base. 4. It is very accurate, I have compared it to my self leveling laser and it is very competitive. 5. Using the leveling base or tripod you can accurately mark slopes.

6. Finally, it is ruggedly built and at an great price point. What’s not to like?.

After only a few days I am in love with this laser level. Having a line and dot laser is extremely useful and something I have not seen before in a torpedo laser level. The laser visibility is very impressive, even in a lighted area.

The magnets are very strong and the level feels very durable. As usual, Klein keeps impressing me with their innovation and high quality products.

This is my first good quality professional torpedo level. I’ve had several small plastic levels that do the job. This one is solid but not heavy. Both leveling surfaces are machined with a coarse pattern.

Machine work is a bit rough in places but that only affects appearance. One way to test a level is to set it on a slightly unlevel surface and make sure it reads the same in both directions. This one does.

It has a flat side for flat surfaces, and a v-notch side for pipe and conduit. The flat side has four magnets which hold it in place on ferrous surfaces in any position. They’re strong magnets, but not too strong, so it can be easily removed.

Good quality torpedo levels are used by pipe fitters, plumbers, electricians running conduit, machinists and millwrights. I’m more into woodworking, but I also built and maintain our house and my woodworking shop.

Most of my levels are several times the size of a torpedo level, and more precise. Still, I use this for things like making sure the garage door rails are plumb. And it’s handy on some woodworking projects where a four-foot level won’t fit.

It has four bubbles. one for level, one for plumb, and two for offsets (30 and 45 degrees) in pipe and conduit work. I recommend it for trades requiring one, and for hard core handyman projects.

If you are in need of a small torpedo level then this is one of the best you can buy. It is made of high quality billet aluminum and highly constructed. It has four bright view milled vial ports that capture and reflect light for increased readability and accurate measurement with 0°, 30°, 45°, and 90° vials.

In addition, it has top-read viewing windows that offer an easy view of the 0°, 30° and 45° vials. It is just really easy to read at various angles. The magnets are strong and this will not fall if stuck to adequate steel.

It has a handy 7″ ruler on one side and metric on the other side. There are some tools one has that are so well built with the right features that is becomes a favorite and this is one of them. Highly recommended if you need a level.

This level came in an apprentice tool kit I bought back in the day. I like how bright it is because I can see it from the floor when I leave it up on the ceiling! I do wish the magnet was stronger, but I liked the shape of it.

It has performed very well over the years. I am in a habit of checking all my (3) levels for accuracy to each other. The Klein always match the two longer levels, until one day it disappeared.

Perfect size to carry around on the job, drop in your toolbag, pull it out in a split second, level what you need instantly drop back in the tool pouch for next time

Bought this for a deck repair project, but have been using it in place of spirit level all around the house. It isn’t bright enough for me to see in the sunlight over more than about 10’, ended up waiting until dusk for my purpose.

Has a loose bit of plastic on side which clicks like a button but seems to be a defect or damage. Not affecting its use and otherwise well built. If I were to buy a laser again, I would prioritize getting something smaller and brighter.

But I got it on a clearance price, and I feel it’s good value.

I didn’t realize when I bought this it was factory refurbished, but the price was so much lower than other offers I saw, I decided to purchase it. I have bought numerous factory refurb products over many years, and have never been disappointed even one time.

This laser level was no exception. It levels itself in just a second or two and seems to be well within the accuracy specifications. The ability to turn the vertical and horizontal lines on and off individually is a very nice feature, and the green laser shows up much better than me old red one did.

Highly recommended!.

This is the first time I’ve used a laser for anything. I’m currently finishing the basement of my new house. The Bosch laser is easy to use and really saves a lot of time. I would highly recommend getting a tripod stand for the laser.

That will be my next purchase.

I’ve had this level for 3 years now and it’s survived 3 story drops, bouncing off pipes and concrete. Magnets are so strong they can hold boxes while you hammer drill through them. Can’t see your level because it’s dark? No worries this thing even lights up like the 4th of July! Highly recommend.

It was a little pricey, as I did not source it locally, but what a superb tool! I’ve got/had other 12 inch-ish levels from Stanley, Ox and Stabila and none of them have had the aesthetics or on 1st impressions, the build quality of this little torpedo! If you need a torpedo level with good, strong magnets, for use with metal-work in risers or other low-light spaces, look no further! The lighted vials are very well lit, so this can be used in the complete dark, although you might struggle with some of your other tools.

Came with Duracell batteries, I’ve had this a whole year of use and abuse and I still haven’t had to replace the batteries. Magnet is strong. Although I wish the magnets were covered by plastic so little metal shavings wouldn’t get lodge between the body and the magnet.

iF YOU ARE a commercial or industrial electrician and bend a lot of conduit you cannot go wrong with this level. It has a 30 degree vial which helps with the most common offsets as well as a 45 degree.

The magnets are dovetailed NOT glued in place like most torpedo levels and this feature alone makes it worth the cost. Bright color makes for good visibility. All around good quality tool.

As a sprinkler fitter, I use a level everyday and this one is by far the best I’ve used. The vials are larger than normal for the bad eyesight crowd, the magnets are pinned in so they don’t fall out like the glued in ones, and the color really pops so you are less likely to leave it on what you are leveling.

Dropped it a few times and the metal doesn’t distort and the bubble levels are still right and not leaking. A con for a few (not myself) is that it is a little heavier than other aluminum levels on the market.

Other levels I’ve owned that I compared it to: checkpoint, empire, savage, Stanley, and Swanson.

My 800LMI just arrived today. It’s even better than I expected. Precision craftsmanship and just a beautiful piece of machinery. Dead nuts level on both sides and the beam is bright and accurate. I’m a plumber of 25 years, minus 4 years that I took off to become a precision machinist.

I can fully appreciate this tool from both aspects. Great job, Ridgid! It was well worth every cent. But on a sour note. your new generation of cordless sawzalls are absolute trash.

I recently purchased the 800 LMI. In my line of work I do a lot of machinery alignment. The laser feature is what sold me on this. It works extremely well and makes the job easy. Whether aligning the faces of several different peices, or using it as a plumb bob, It works well.

The accuracy for a small level is great and its compact size lets me store it just about anywhere. The aluminum body is tough and I have little worries about it getting damaged. The magnets allow it be attached to anything securely and without worry of it moving.

For my application, the five vials seems to be a bit much, I’m good with 0, 90 and 45. But in more of a construction application, I can see where the others may come in handy.

Rock solid. Well finished. Super strong magnets. Grade graduated vial showing inch per foot pitch.

I use this level mostly to grade PVC pipe. I like how the direction of the grade reads both ways for grading pipe at an 1/4 inch per foot. The markings on it, however, are wrong. Unfortunately the markings indicate 1/4in to 1/2in per foot.

learned this the hard way syncing it up with other levels. For almost a year i was grading my pipe at a 1/2in per foot thinking it was a 1/4in (plumbers never need to grade anything faster then 1/4in).

The application for this level should strictly be for grading pipe in the dirt. I know you guys can a will make a better one, or a new one. Remove the magnets and make it 10″ instead of 6″ for accuracy.

I like how it sits perfectly on the pipe with the slot on the side without the magnets. You are this close to making an unbeatable waste and vent level.

I bought one of these back in 2017 to take on the continent on a petrochemical job. When using it I straight away noticed that it was faulty and the horizontal level was way out. Upon returning to the UK i had no problem whatsoever in swapping it.

after using the new one for a while I then had exactly the same problem and it appeared to have lost all accuracy. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! CHEAP RUBBISH! Buy s cheaper better stabila level. utter cr#p! Plus couldn’t get a new one as by now out of warranty!.

one of my apprintices brought one of these levels to work and it is a complete failure for our trade. Milwaukee has made great electrical tools but needs to step up their game in the way of levels we need a torpedo level that has multiple vials with 10,15,22.

5,30,45 degree windows hell even a 15 and 30 and 90 would be fantastic for installing emt and rigid you should build a better level. we would love to buy them from you.

I hate to write a negative review about Milwaukee tools because they’re definitely my brand so I hope this is more of a helpful criticism than anything. For starters I was excited to see Milwaukee had come out with a set of levels that seemed comparable to Stabila but in the end I was let down.

I had bought the Red Stick Level Set and after a week of having them and comparing the torpedo, 2’, 4’ and 6’ to multiple co-worker Stabila’s and Laser Levels I noticed every single level was off. I had to mark which side and which bubble I could use which became confusing and frustrating so I ended up returning them.

I watched a few reviews online that even stated that through multiple purchases they had about a 40% success rate of the levels being accurate. They were very solid and definitely had a high quality feel.

But in the end, them actually working correctly is what I needed. Hoping for more attention and care to this matter because I would buy again if I could buy a dependable/accurate set.

Don’t buy this piece of junk. I thought at this price, I’d get an amazing level that would last me for life. I didn’t even own the thing for a year before center vial became loose. The white circle containing the center vial can rotate even though it’s not supposed to be adjustable.

Honestly, why wouldn’t they contain it in a more rigid shape like the one near the tapered end? You can’t trust the adjustable vial (the one that’s supposed to be adjustable). I’ve tried to adjust it to 90 degrees and leave it that way to replace the faulty vial, but it’s just not the same.

You could be 0. 3 of a degree off and not realize it until it’s too late – that one’s useless for anything that requires precision. And if you’re using a level, chances are you need precision. The stupid tapered end and round bumps on the side of the level are also reasons why I hate this level.

You can only use one side of this level, which sucks compared to levels that are flat on both sides. It just makes this thing worse when you can’t check the adjustable vial’s reading from both sides to make sure it’s actually set to a perfect 90 degrees.

I like the ultra strong magnet on this level, but it’s also stupid it doesn’t have a non-magnetic side. This magnet is strong enough to lift a folding chair, you shouldn’t be forced to exert effort into ripping it off magnetic surfaces whenever you use it.

Also, I don’t think the flat side is completely flat. It often seems to be rocking a little when I use it. Maybe the surfaces I’m using it on are just slightly bumpy, but I can’t tell because this level is so unreliable.

I can’t trust anything about it. I’m extremely disappointed, I expected a quality product from Milwaukee. If I could return it, I would in a heartbeat, but it unfortunately looks a little banged up from the paint chipping as the powerful magnet slams the level against metal surfaces.

I’d always get a handful of tools stuck to the thing when I pulled it out of my pouch, too. I can’t express how much I regret buying this and how disappointed I am in its poor design and construction.

I have to admit that the first one that I ordered, the measurements were off and I quickly was sent a second one as a replacement and the measurements were accurate. This level has been probably one of my most frequently used levels, especially with the ability to work with angles.

I previously used my pocket angle level and torpedo level as two separate tools, but this level replaces the both of them. The magnets are very strong and the vials are super easy to read. Well designed and very well made!!.

This unit is decent. The measurements are accurate. The unit is built well and appears to remain durable. My only complaint is that the clamp screw spacing is a little too tight and could use some extra room for some projects.

This little level is effective and convenient. Works great! I’m only giving 4 stars because it didn’t come with the black cord that’s in the picture, which was partly why I chose it and it would have been very useful—I was disappointed to find it wasn’t included.

Other than that, no complaints!.

The size is great. The clamp always unthreads and risks losing the clamping screw. Item does not come witb black hook/tie as shown. Bubbles are almost too accurate, believe it or not. Its tough to get something truly level.

I use this small level for leveling in tight spaces, so the size is perfect. More importantly, I use this product to level paintings around my home with expensive wood frames. I went to 5 other name brand stores that carried a variety of levels of similar size and varying cost.

The low cost levels looked cheap and flimsy. The more expensive levels all included metal, which all had burrs and sharp edges; burrs and sharp edges would scratch any surface that it would be set on.

I definitely recommend this level if you work in tight spaces, need to level small items, and/or don’t want to scratch what you are working with.

I have had a used this level for well of 2 years now and it’s still level! Its compact and portable size make it great to throw in your tool bag when you need to take tools on the go. The magnetic strip is a nice feature and comes in handy in certain situations.

I also like that it has the 45 degree bubble that not all levels have. The horizontal bubble also has a see through hole on top for when you need to see it from a bird’s eye view.

This is my second one. it is small enough, I use it like a magnet on my fridge and always have it handy. I just used it again for hanging hooks in my bathroom. i layed a straight broom handle on top, and had a straight level line all the way across the wall.

Then, I just went back and marked dots at 9 inch intervals. This is going to work so much better than the towelbar.

I’m not too impressed with this level, given the quality of all my other Ridgid tools I assumed it would carry over to this level. It works just fine and reads accurately but I had only had been using it for a week and the lines and numbering on the vials had already began wearing off just from regular use making it difficult to read.

If you can’t read a level it’s pretty much useless. why they didn’t have the lines and numbering on the INSIDE of the vials is beyond me.

same great quality as i would expect from ridgid . fully well expect it to last as long as one i piuchased 30 years ago.

I’ve used other torpedo levels and found this one to be more accurate then all of them. I like the fact that you can see exactly how much grade according to the marked fraction on the gage.

I am overjoyed at how great a laser the Cross Line Laser is. The laser sends a bright green laser horizontally, vertically of in both directions at once by pressing one or both of the two pressure switches.

The device comes in a well designed heavy duty plastic carrying case to hold the laser device, three AAA batteries, and an extra bracket. I really liked that there are slots specially dedicated for the batteries, which keep them separated and fresh in between jobs.

The cross line laser is solidly built and can withstand drops of 3. 2 feet (1 meter), and with its rugged carrying case the tool is ready for rough and tumble travel and construction sites. The laser is powerful and is highly visible in dark and bright settings due to its bright green color.

It has a good range that can be extended to 165 feet (50 meters) with an optional detector. Leveling is accurate to within 1/8 inch at 30 feet, which is more than adequate for most projects. The laser unit has several options for mounting.

It has a 180 degree swivel bracket that can be mounted on a nail, set on a horizontal surface, attached to a metal surface by strong magnets in its bracket, or screwed onto a tripod by a 1/4 inch thread in its base.

An extra bracket designed for placement on drop ceiling frames is an added bonus. The laser’s auto self leveling allows for placement on uneven surfaces; up to a 4 inch tilt. Right out of the box the laser is easy to use.

There is a very short Quick Start Guide included with the kit. And for more information there is a comprehensive Instruction Manual that is found by going to the www. dewalt. com website. This is a tool that you will want to add to your “must have” list.

This is a great device that does its job perfectly. The beam is clear and strong, and the self leveling aspect is great. I used this to create a level line on the wall to help me hang some pictures and it worked brilliantly.

Especially as my house doesn’t have a single level floor or ceiling! Gone are the days of measuring from the floor up or the ceiling down only to find that I’ve drawn a zigzag on the wall. I used the wall mount which worked great, with a nice strong magnet to attach the unit.

I haven had need to use the non self-leveling element of the device, but it seems like it would work fine. I don’t use the batteries that come bundled with devices so can’t speak to their quality. But the ones I put into the device are still working 3 days later so it seems all right on battery life so far.

All in all, I can’t find any faults, 5 stars.

If i could rate it 0 stars i would. Worst level i ever owned. I install TVs for a living and use a small level for all my jobs. After my cheap level fell apart i decided to buy one that goes with my other dewalt tools.

After using it on 5 or 6 TV installs i noticed my TVs were not level. After checking with different levels i found my dewalt level as the fault. Dewalt used to be one of the best brands but lately ive been having issues with the new stuff.

Bought a dewalt power inverter for my car and it couldnt even charge my phone new out of the box. Plus the fact that im paying extra just for the dewalt name. Time to go Milwaukee.

I bought this despite the one other review mentioning it wasn’t actually level, thinking theirs was maybe a one-off. It turns out it wasn’t and this level changes its reading just by flipping it around.

Absolutely useless.

Quality DeWalt item that is brilliant for those little jobs around like making sure sockets, pictures etc are level. Horizontal and vertical bubbles are spot on the level supplied to me.

I bought this because of the glow-in-the-dark. Once I received this level, I did verify that this level glows in the dark. I suppose the glow is OK; I haven’t had to use this level in dim light yet. What makes me recommend against this level is that the magnets are on the opposite side of the level from the V-groove! One of the times magnets in a level are the most useful is in conjunction with the V-groove, to hold the level securely to a steel rod or pipe.

In looking on the Web, torpedo levels I’ve found that have a magnetic V-groove: Ideal 35-207 (as of this writing, it costs a LOT and has a long lead time!) S~~~~~N TL009M (I own one of these) K~~~O 935 None of the 3 really have a visibility feature to replace the Johnson’s glow-in-the-dark.

The Ideal has “oversized windows;” the S~~~~~N has “white vial surrounds;” the K~~~O has “highly visible red bubble edges. ” Other than that, this Johnson level is (for my needs anyway) a generic, sturdy, inexpensive torpedo level.

Good spatial view of the level bubbles. Right size for small surfaces. Good quality of the aluminum frame.

These things stick to metal like glue. These levels are awesome due to the fact that I work in construction, where you have low levels of light.

I needed a small level to carry with me in both my car and my van, so I bought two! I sometimes need to know things are close to level and it helps to also be able to read angles as well. That makes this the perfect tool for quick checks without going back and digging out the big level (also from Harbor Freight).

Hey, it’s just an inexpensive level. Bought to check level on a trailer because we hadn’t installed the “real” levels yet. The angle finder is a neat feature, but the “magnet” is a joke. It’s worthless, won’t stick to anything.

Bought this level and several other items at Harbor Freight. Great products reasonably priced. Store is full of tools, products and useful gadgets. Makes looking around fun and won’t kill your wallet.

Bought 4 of them, just in case. I’ve bought other brands and they didn’t last very long. They cracked and fell apart! These placard Holders are PERFECT! Love the way it hangs on my rear view mirror on hanger type hook! Love the material it’s made out of also!.

I left my Stabila level some where up on the ceiling in Warner House, the same again with my Fatmax level. I bought this level so that I could attach it to a tool teather and not leave it up on the ceiling when I’m doing overhead work.

This level is much chunkier than my Stabila and heavier and also feels a lot tougher. Now that Stabila has a level with a tool teather I might buy that instead because it’s more compact and lighter, but the Milwaukee has better magnets and is built to last.

So with that in mind I would go with the Milwaukee as no one else on site has one (so it will be harder for someone to ‘borrow’ it.

Very satisfactory level. Adjustable and relatively precise angle graduation. Good product.
