20 Best Tournament Fishing Scales (2022 Updated)

This is definitely the best tournament scale I have ever used. Being able to store weights of all your keepers is such a time saver. This is my second one as my last one got waterlogged and didn’t work properly.

They are splash proof but if water gets inside the screen its donzo. I have had problems with the batteries shifting and causing the scale to turn off, easy fix though with some electrical tape inside the case.

The scale is fairly easy to use but it has a lot of features so keeping the directions with you (they are waterproof and attached to the carrying bag) is crucial till you learn them all. The scale is very accurate as my weights are always real close to the actual weigh-in weight.

This scale is a must for any tournament bass angler. You want to make sure to get the 15lb scale and not the 50lb. The 50 lb scale only does increments every 4 oz. -15 lb scale does every ounce or tenths.

I tournament fist a lot and was wanting some decent scale to help manage my fish. This thing is a breeze to use and works great. It has been very accurate on my big bass and total bag weight compared to the directors scales.

I Didn’t care for the cull tags but I didn’t get it for them. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for some decent scale at an affordable price!!.

A product should work out of the box. in my opinion. The little slider falls down when the scale is held vertically rendering the scale useless. and there is no way to tighten up the tension on that marker without mgivering something out of tape.

When I weigh something the marker just falls down, so there is no way to know where the spring scale is at. There is not enough tension between the tube and the slider marker to keep the slider in place when held vertical.

I tried putting some tape between the tube and the marker to create friction so the marker would stay in place better. I had to put 4 layers of tape down to get it to work temporarily. problem with the tape solution is eventually it will wear down the tape, or when water gets to the tape, and the tape will deteriorate making the scale useless.

I’ve had this scale for a while now. I use it from weighing fishing of course, to testing trigger pull weight (funny huh?). It’s very accurately for a old school design. I’ve tested free weights, used other known weight objects, and checked it right alongside a digital bathroom scale an it’s right on! A few times I thought about getting a digital scale, but this one works so why replace it? I can’t say they’re all that accurate but mine is.

We needed two identical digital scales for two weighing stations at our lake association’s family fishing tournament. They had to be capable of being hung from a tripod, starting with a tare weight (suspended drain bucket), weighing at least 25# and still be reasonable in cost.

This Rapala model met all of our criteria and more. They produced identical readings for the same test weight which was important for contest fairness. These will be reserved for future fishing tournaments but there is no reason they could not be used by any private fisherman.

I have fished my entire life like there’s no tomorrow, and even so, I don’t have a habit of weighing my fish. But after a lifetime of NOT having a scale, I opted for this model. The unit will not weigh fish smaller than a pound (curiosity), and the display is erratic, often reading no change despite heavier weight attached.

At first, I began looking at calibration, but the unit doesn’t offer any. I opened it up. Nope, nothing here. I would put my experience down to this unit being a lemon, rather than condemning the model as a whole.

But I had left positive feedback, and can’t take THAT back. So, here I am.

I picked this scale up to replace my older rapala 50lb mini scale. That scale was spot on accurate and lasted me 3 years before failing. I tested this scales accuracy by weighing a 5lb and 10lb plate using both Lbs and Lbs&Oz options.

The 5lb plate weighed in at 4. 87lbs or 4lbs13oz. The 10lb plate weighed in at 9. 72lbs or 9lbs11oz. Judging by my results and the results of other reviewers, the inaccuracy of these and other similar digital scales seems to be common.

I think it just boils down to a relaxed quality control at the manufacturer where they allow a semi-wide margin of error to pass inspection. If you are considering purchasing a digital scale, I would advise you to test it and exchange it until you get one that is pretty close to spot on.

Ill be keeping my scale as it is not too far off and results in under weighing the fish rather than over weighing it. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, but only after I advised them of the wide margin of error these thing seem to ship with.

I have a 50 pounder in this size but wanted the 25 for more accuracy. I had one of these that I left on the boat for quite a few years. The saltwater took its toll on the spring so I bought another one.

I have had many scales that are no where close. They have gone up in price but our Washington department of fish and wildlife use this brand to check fish at the docks. They say they continually check their accuracy.

Its one of the best.

Scale is solidly built. However, the Tell Tale ring slides too freely on the scale and will not hold a position. I am on my second one. Exchanged the first one for a new one. Both, have the same issue although the second one is not as bad, I can live with it the way it is.

this product is strong and perfect for a rough idea of how heavy your fish is but since this is spring loaded its not accurate and is off. at 1 pound its off by a 1/4 and evey 4 pounds u loose 1 pound so with mine if it reads a 4lb fish on scale the fish is really 5 lb.

if i catch a 8lb fish itll read anywhere from 6-7 pounds depending on the day and this is a percentage not a fix number so technically the idea of having to add 1lb to evey 4lbs is incorrect and you need to do it by the percentage but anyways test it and Calibrate this scale before using.

this is now my back up boat scale.

I purchased this Rapala scale to measure the bearing preload when I rebuilt the steering knuckles and repacked my wheel bearings in my 4WD. Before using it, I tried it out on a few small dumb-bells and it was dead on.

It worked perfectly and I am glad I purchased it instead of guessing. I gave it 5 stars for a mechanical scale. I don’t think you could make a spring scale like this any better. I am not comparing it with a digital scale that would undoubtedly be more accurate (and expensive) I like it.

Truly a case of you get what you pay for. Before buying the Boga I tried a couple of much cheaper knock offs as well as other fish grip designs. They were OK. Eventually I purchased the Boga and then realized what just “OK” meant.

The differences are amazing and self evident as soon as you use the Boga. From the solid stainless steel construction, the swivel, the incredibly accurate scale, the positive actions and humane grip.

what more can you ask for?.

Folk’s? I am in favor of cutting corners just like everyone else, but you know what? sometimes that idea just does not hold water. Either you buy one good one or you can buy 2+ garbage ones. Now here is an item that totally speaks and proves itself every time you use it.

I can see only one con here and that is when someone else wants to use it you need to hold your breath and hope that he/she does not drop it overboard, not because of the $ but for what it is, I call my 30 & 60lb.

boga’s my pride and joy and should I leave either one of them behind it can be depressing when you when you get out there and find that you don’t have them. Sure!, there are other one’s out there just like the boga’s and they work almost as well but down the road? Well!? you will see for yourself.

If I sound overly thrilled about my boga’s, it is because I am. Go for the buck’s on this one, you will not regret it. I call my baga’s the lie detector’s ( something like that one fish that gains five pounds everytime the story is told ).

Read a lot of reviews about the boga and other similar products and could have had 3 or 4 of the cheap ones for the price the boga. Can’t honestly say that that the cheaper ones are junk. as I have no experience with them but I do like this one and was kicking myself for spending the money on it before it even got here, but now having used it I have zero regrets spending the extra over the less pricey ones.

It is super well built and I have absolutely no worries that it will ever fail, the jaws will absolutely not bend like I read in reviews of others. Calibrated scale is a giant bonus, it reads easier than the spring scales I have been using without damaging the fish by stabbing a hole through the jaw I have even started using it on smaller fish just so I don’t have to touch them, safer catch and release for me and the fish.

Bottom line is, WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE YEARS AGO, I LOVE IT!!!!.

I really like using this scale. It’s easy to use and setup. This is my second scale. The only problem I have encountered is that I allowed my first scale to become emerged in water and it corroded the electronic board ruining it.

So it can’t withstand moisture very well which is unfortunate being that you use it around water nearly always. However I do like the scale and plan to take better care of this one.

Our small bass club purchased the Brecknell MLF Tournament Fish Scale to use in our tournament weigh-ins. The scale worked for a few fish, then was behaving strangely, then stopped working within the first few hours of use.

Tried multiple different brand new batties after it would no longer turn on at all. Now we have to eat ~$7. 50 shipping to return a defective product.

Bass pro shops did a terrible job boxing up and shipping my MLF weigh scale. I’ve only used the scale 1 time so far. It seems to function correctly and accurately. I’m very happy with the scale so far.

I bought one of these a few months ago and used it once, then left it in a bag that got submerged in water and completely ruined it. Therefore I bought another one despite the one star review that someone else left on here because it (only weighs in kg).

They DO weigh in lbs AND kg. To change the unit you want to use, press the button immediately after turning the scale on and it will change from kg to lbs or vise versa. To test the accuracy of the scale I weighed a gallon of WHOLE milk that came back at 8.

69lbs. According to google, a gallon of milk averages at 8. 6lbs plus or minus a little depending on whole milk (heavier) or 2% (lighter).

I’ve had two of these. First had condensation under screen after one trip on the boat and wouldn’t 0 out. Second scale does not weigh accurately. Weigh the same fish 3 times and got 3 wildly different weights.

Spend a little more money and get something that works.

Used only few times so far but I like it. Weighed canned foods in bag and weight is very accurate. Took multiple cans for bigger weights and accuracy still there. Fish gripper spring is very strong and easily holds onto the bigger fish.

Easy to zero out for weighing and turns off after 2 minutes should you forget. Good so far. time will tell on durability.

Kastking always comes through with great value on the fishing gear you need. I’ve been playing the guessing game for way too long when it comes to fishing, so when I saw Kastking had this new combo I jumped on it.

The scale is nice and compact. It’s also super easy to read with the backlight on or off. The lip grip seems to be well made and should hold up to anything I catch. I haven’t tested the “floating” feature of the grip yet, but I don’t really plan to thanks to the nice long lanyard that comes attached to them.

The scale and tape are must have fishing gear if you are the least bit serious about being an angler. The scale is digital and accurate when measuring your fish or your drag if you still aren’t a good judge.

The tape comes in handy if you plan on keeping anything for the fryer. The grips are absolutely necessary if you catch anything with teeth. The quality of the items are as good as it gets, especially for the price.

Very affordable and easy to use scale, instructions were very specific on how to use the scale, change the units and the memory option. Also the gripper also a very nice addon for fishing has a good grip and very helpful to get the fish out of the water! A great option to have on the fishing gear!.

The scale is awesome! When I first turned it on it ask what units I wanted. I selected pounds and it has stayed set to pounds. The unit powers up quick. I’m very pleased with this product.

Caught a few and guess the weight prior to weighting and agree these scale are accurate to the oz, recommend to have this in your boat and very reasonable price. Don’t leave home with out it!

Scale works great. Seems to be accurate. I like the hold function that locks in the maximum weight even after fish is removed.

I bought a brand new hand held expensive scale for weighing fish. The scale broke within a year, the plastic housing broke while just holding it up, customer service would not help me. Weak product and poor warranty.

I purchased this scale to enable accurate home weighing of my very ill and disabled 1 yr old granddaughter. All her medications are based on a precise body weight. The scale enables her to be weighed in a sling.

Excellent product but not suitable for my application.

I enjoy fishing for large flathead catfish–the digital readout is easy to read, heavy duty material. Nice handle and easy to grip. I keep it in my tackle box with a cloth cover so the plastic digital face does not get scratched.

YES, buy one, the scale is accurate.

The scale works nice. I just did some calibration checks and the measurements look quite good. The lock function is quite usefull (mainly because I bought the scale to check the poundage of my bow) and it locks the measurement after 2s (but the scale needs to be steady).

And, I thought the material of the scale strong.

this scale does not make a very good fishing get wet at all and it will not work. if you make it water resistance it might be a good product as of right not good for fishing

The scale has a nice backlit display. The scale is easy to hold and fits just right in my large hand. It is comfortable to hold either the handle on top, or gripped by the sides. The hook on the scale is appropriately sized, and not super pointy.

The scale is easy to use, light, waterproof, and brightly colored. The fish grippers are a smaller size than expected, and may be too small for the inshore fishing I had intended to use them for. I may add a larger size to the set later, but If you have any intention of weighing smaller toothy fish it should be fine.

They seem to be quality grippers, just smaller than I would like, and I doubt they would work well with anything close to the max rating of the scale.

The price point for this digital scale/fish grip combination i thought was pretty reasonable. The scale is accurate and when utilizing the grips I haven’t had a fish shake free yet. I like the coloring because i can always find it.

This is actually my second one I’m purchasing. I was out fishing for smallies the other day and the clip I was using to attach my scale to me had broke and it floated down the Conny stream with haste and there was no chasing it down risking falling in freezing water.

It was a Sid the Sloth moment of, “No thanks, I choose life. ”. Hell, it’s probably in the Susq River by now. So if you’re reading this and have found the scale, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Bought on a whim because I wanted to see how much some of the catfish I was catching weighed. I was pleasantly surprised by this scale. Works as advertised, and the fish grippers are pretty decent too.

All in all I would recommend if you need a scale and don’t want to spend a lot of money.

Unfortunately the scales didn’t work. The package claims 9v battery included which isn’t the case. After purchasing a battery I found the battery compartment very tight and when I connected it the battery wires smoked and burnt out esulting in no digital display.

The weighing sling it came with was fine but had to go back as it was purchased as a complete package. I have since had a refund. A bit surprising as this was an NGT brand which is normally good.

I had the Korum digital scales for a season before the screen went blurry and then stopped working altogether. The Korum scales look great but are expensive. For a fraction of the price the NGT scales are just as good and if they go wrong much cheaper to replace.

I can even afford a second set for my other tackle bag!.

Good quality and just the right size for my needs. Purchased for my roaming fishing for perch and pike. Fits in my ruck sack fine so no need for bag.

I recently bought the whisker seeker scale. I would not buy this scale again. Nor would I recommend it. For starters, one of the screws that holds the battery cover plate on, was cross threaded in place.

Almost an act of God to get the screw out so that I could install batteries. Second, scale doesn’t seem to work on the low end of the spectrum. Caught two fish one was 3. 78 pounds the other was 4.

52 pounds. Fish had to be weighed with my son’s Rapala tournament scale. My whisker seeker scale would not give a weight read out. And yes, batteries are installed correctly and have been tested. Put a heavier object on, like 25 pound weight, the scale does provide a read out.

Now, I usually like whisper seeker products, I use their hooks exclusively. But not these scales.

Love the whiskers seeker 110 pound digital scale! I’ve always use grabber type scales and was never satisfied with the accuracy. My whiskers seeker scale came within a week with a nice sticker and a little piece of fish candy 😠I took it out the following day after I received it, caught five blues in the morning, from 17 1/2 pounds down to 10 1/2, nothing under 10 pounds.

I was very satisfied with the ease of operation, although I didn’t have any 50 pounders to weigh, I was glad to have it. I will be hooking it onto my T top for hands-free use. Thank you whisker seeker for a well-built and a much needed product, can’t wait to use it on some big redfish as well.

I have switched to buying almost exclusively from Whisker Seekers for my terminal tackle because of the great quality and fast shipping! I have been very happy with everything that I have purchased except for this scale.

My wife bought it for me as a birthday present. I was very impressed by how well it was built. I only weigh my biggest fish, so it is not something I use often. The first time I got it out to use the batteries were dead.

I changed the batteries then didnt use it again for a few more months. Next time I try to use it same thing. I thought maybe the way I had it stored the on button was being clicked but after another time I knew it had to be something else.

I called about returning it and was told that they had problems with the boards on some of the scales and they were killing the batteries and that they would replace the product no problem, but since my wife purchased it she would have to return it.

She called the next day only to be told that it couldn’t be returned. In reading reviews, others have had this problem to. The bad thing is the scale is built great, but it is useless without power.

Very compact but really good. Ideal to pop into jacket pocket with either a weigh sling or carrier bag perfect for the roving angler

Positive:- displays in lb and oz, similar products for 1/3 price but dont display weight in lb/oz.

Just purchased my tbar mk2 Honestly looks cheap & nasty NO GRIP on the Handle its Very Slippery I imagine will be Worse when WET , To Top it off THE BUTTONS still seem like they are or will be an Issue when using ie turning on and off.

Overall Very DISSAPOINTED with the New Mk2 seems gone down the route of Cheap &Nasty should have gripped handle.

Easy to use and comfortable to hold when weighting, accurate as far as the stated weight of things Ive weighted ,would have preferred an open hook for the weight sling to make life easier , excellent product.

Just Used a set in France at Chateau Lake Weighing some Very Big Fish. Easy to zero and double check the weights on. My mate next door weighed a big 30 next door on them and they were exact with his Spring scales.
