20 Best Toys For Gerbils (2022 Updated)

i have never bought this item before. But from what I know its bad. The holes for breathing don’t give enough air. Your pets toes can get stuck in the toes and break them. They can bump into things giving them trauma.

And most of all its not a good product. hamsters are not toys. They need 6 inches of bedding. A cage minimum is 450 by 450. Not a critter trail. Please research before buying a hamster. Don’t use this item unless its a extra hideout in there environment.

~ I do not have a hamster or a guinea pig but since my puppy has every toy under the sun I thought I would try it. He is a 5 mo old German Shepherd that really likes to herd me like cattle. Literally, I cannot walk anywhere.

He will take his paw and wrap it around my leg as I walk like he’s trying to play soccer. He has dog toys that have a place for him to grab with his mouth or they are soft that he can sink his teeth into.

I thought this might be fun to force him to play with his paws. It actually worked. He prefers this over his “dog” ball. Obviously it is built to house a live small rodent at play time so is not hard walled and meant for a dog to be dropping from a foot in the air.

Amazingly it withstood his Puppy Power though! I videoed him playing with the ball but this only allows pictures. I tried to capture some frames. He loves it. *****I want to update. it has been a week with him playing with it everyday and it is still in one piece! It is his favorite toy.

My male rats are average size, each weighing about 400 grams, or around 1 pound. While this ball seems huge, when they run in it, their tail is the only thing that runs up the side of the ball. They move the ball just fine (solo or with both of them in it at the same time).

My only irritation is that I didn’t get to choose the color. I received a pink one. Not my color of choice, but it is what it is. The lid is a little tough to get on, but it stays in place once on. I would recommend this ball to others.

This tubes are hard to pull apart and clean, I broke the closure clips trying to get them apart! Which is necessity since our hamster uses them as a restroom! Easily knocked over by the house cat since these hang off the side of the habitat!! Not a secure system at all.

Especially if you have other pets in the home. Unfortunately I regret buying any of the Kaytee habitat items for our dwarf hamster.

I originally got these for the inside of a big cage so they could run around in them but due to cage issue I had to switch them to two Kaytee cages. I used the tube to connect the two cages together and they love running back and forth between them.

I’ll start off by saying I couldn’t even get the yellow tube off the purple T, but I made it work. The worst part about is getting it apart. The pieces are super tight together so it takes a bit of muscle to pull them apart, I’m hoping eventually it’ll ware down enough it won’t be difficult every time.

There wasn’t enough pieces in it to attach two cages together so I had to buy a bit more so maybe buy two. Once it’s together though it’s perfect. You just need to keep a level head while working with this and be patient.

I bought 1 of these for each cage. None of my guinea pigs touched any of these pieces. They still love clean cardboard better…..

Great for gerbil! They might eventually learn they can jump out so avoid putting high items inside the pen. I bought two just to give mine more room as they can easily be attached. No assembly required.

This is a nice quality fence and very portable. I use it as a barrier in multiple spots in my home to keep my puppy where she should be. It’s a nice height for us to step over without needing to move it or open and close it.

Easy to join together. For larger openings. Also use it for my guinea pigs.

I bought this pen for my gerbils. I bought two pens and hooked them together. It makes a big enough area for my grandchild to sit inside of it with the gerbils. I needed the pen to contain the gerbils and keep them from running under the couch.

I do not use it for a cage. This is just for their exercise.

I bought this small pet playpen to keep tiny kittens confined so they could get some exercise. It is just the perfect size and height for what I wanted. I wean kittens for rescue centers and I usually have several at any given time.

They need a place to stretch their legs and I need to be able to keep track of and confine them so they don’t get injured. Once the kittens are big enough to start climbing over the top they can “graduate” to a larger pen.

I am so happy with this small playpen I intend to buy another one. It’s easy to store when not in use and easy to set up and take down.

I bought this for my 16 year old Chihuahua because she has been having accidents around the house. I bought two and connected them together. It made a nice area for her where I could put her bed, bowls and pad when I am not around.

Although she is unable to jump over it, she basically knocked it over because the hooks between the panels come apart very easily. I am now going to try tying them together with twist ties and hopefully my problem will be solved.

VERY GOOD item for the price. very flimsy and lightweight and very short so only dwarf hamsters mice would be able to play in it without actually getting away. Otherwise, it’s very nice and convenient.

I WOULD ADVISE YOU NOT TO BRING YOUR ANIMAL OUTSIDE WITHOUT SUPERVISION!! I brought my hamster outside in his playpen and let him play and IMMEDIATELY A hawk who was the size of AT LEAST 8 feet wingspan swarmed my hamster and was about 3 feet away from us.

Immediately I grabbed him without any will due respect for myself and slipped on the pavement. I rushed fast without anything, just the frightened hamster in my hand, and I brought him inside and slammed the door shut.

I wish they gave us a mat for both sides without this so that it would be easier for pet mommies and daddies to play with their pets outside or what not. DID I MENTION IT CAME IN LITERALLY 2 DAYS AFTER IT WAS SHIPPED?!?!?! WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BEFORE EXPECTED DATE!.

I purchased this ladder/bridge for my dwarf hamster. At first she didn’t seem to use it, much, but she just needed time to learn how to use it. Now she loves it and climbs on it all the time. Also, it offers another accessory that she can freely chew on without causing damage to it or herself.

Very cute, different than a lot of the products on the market. Love wood because my hammy can chew, disappointed wood was rough and I got a splinter in my finger from handling it. I didn’t feel comfortable giving to my hammy without sanding down the surface first.

This ladder is one of our gerbil’s favorite chew toys. And the best part is that it only needs replacing once every 3 weeks or so when it has finally been destroyed! 🙂

The ball comes unassembled with no directions. I figured it out eventually after having to unassemble and reassemble. The lids are extremely hard to snap in and one popped off two different times while my hamster was in it! It is the second exercise ball we have had but the first of this brand.

I bought this as my syrian needed a larger size to avoid back arching. The plastix is a lot heavier and tougher than our smaller one, and I fear this one may not survive accidental bumps. It comes in two halves and the clips are awkward, they don’t really clip together properly but they are holding so far.

Sharp pointy bits inside the lid on both sides concerned my, they looked hazardous for tiny paws so I snipped them off with nail clippers and sanded them down with a nail file. Hamster doesn’t seem too happy with her ball now, perhaps its too big.

Not only is this the best quality ball we’ve ever had, it’s also very reasonably priced. We are using it for a Syrian hamster and she’s impressed. We can easily see her and she cant fit her feet easily through the slats on the ball ( her other ball had wider slats and she got sore feet using it, that’s why we’ve changed ) easy to put together and very sturdy.

Need a hamster ball, get one of these x.

I purchased for a dwarf hamster and she loves it. She managed to get from one end of the house to the other, over tile, rugs, uneven flooring, no problems. It comes in 2 halves that you snap together, easily.

The only problem was that the round hatch door was so tight I could barely move it. I put the tiniest dab of vaseline on each of the little ‘tabs’ and it worked perfectly. Opens easily for me, but not while she is running around.

It is small, definitely suitable for a dwarf hammie or a mouse only. I put her in it while I am cleaning her cage. Since she doesn’t like to be touched, I just place the open ball in front of her and she jumps in.

My hamster loves this ball, and it’s actually large enough so she doesn’t arch her back while she runs. My issue is the lid can be wonky. Sometimes it sticks to the point where I can barely get it off, but another time it fell off while my hamster was running, gave her such a fright.

Fortunately she didn’t escape. I have to keep an eagle eye on her while she rolls around. This is also priced way too high compared to the other smaller options, but only mice would be small enough to fit in those tiny things, regardless of the pictures on the box.

I bought this 11. 5″ on sale. Four stars because of the joy this brings to my critter. :-).

I’ll be honest, my guinea pigs were not into the little bell on the bottom. That said when I removed it they loved the rest of it. I like that it got them to reach up a bit, getting them some more exercise.

so far they haven’t went for the top parts but I’ll lower it as the bottom pieces get more worn.

My daughter has built a maze for her hamster and this was an awesome addition. It is long and much wider than the usual tubes which make it perfect for bigger hamsters. I love the green color we purchased.

It not only gives a nice pop of color but it is easily see through unlike some of the darker color tubes. It has a hatch door that can easily be opened and we love how convenient it is if we need to take him out and decide to go through this large tube.

Our pet loves running through it and we enjoy watching him have fun.

This tunnel is HUGE!! It’s so huge it has an access door. Lol. It’s so long, I’m trying to find a place to have 2 cages and use this to connect the two together. It was only $8 which isn’t bad. The lady @Petco said that these were used for bigger hamsters.

Comes with the connector piece to just add it to the cage. I would buy this again if I needed it.

These willow chews are really fun! Almost all my pets love them! If one (or two) isn’t feeling in the mood, I just wash it off and give it to another! That is hardly ever a problem, though. The only one who isn’t a fan is my hamster Peaches and she is the pickiest creature in existence.

She’d rather chew on her wheel LOL (no really, she chews on her wheel:)! But anyway, she’s just really picky. All the others love them.

My rabbits really like willow in any variety, problem is that it really gets destroyed quickly. I get these balls on occasion as a treat/toy, but I don’t expect them to last, and they don’t.

The willow balls are a great size! Unfortunately my guinea pigs aren’t a fan of them but I gave it a shot anyway! Three star bc my pigs don’t like them but five star bc they are good quality!!

We loved our old saucer-wheels, but when I switched to using coco-fiber bedding they started getting jammed and the mice could no longer use them. The coco-fiber works great for absorbing smells, so it stays and the old saucer wheels had to go.

Switching to these wheels turned out to be a big bonus in the CLEANLINESS department. The natural advantages of this design are helped by the coco-fiber (works kind of like flour on dough), and they hardly ever get anything sticking to them.

The manufacturer recommends vegetable oil if (when) the wheel squeaks. I find that petroleum jelly (AKA Vaseline white petroleum) works better and lasts a lot longer, and is still safe for my mice. Mine are QUIETER than the saucer design as I am currently using them.

They could be even quieter if I used zip ties to secure the side that doesn’t hook, which I will probably do at some point. This wheel can be used either sitting on the bedding or hanging from wire sides or tops of the cage.

My DIY mouse bins have 1/4″ mesh ceilings made out of basically the same material as this wheel, and my wheels are hanging from the ceiling hooked through that. The wheel hangs down by about 10″ when mounted this way.

I got medium wheels for my larger bins and small wheels for my smaller bins, but I find that the medium size works much better for mice. They often run in pairs and I have seen up to five mice on the wheel at one time.

The small size is OK too, but for multiple mice I definitely recommend the MEDIUM (8″) wheel. At this time, the small wheel is available from Chewy under a different listing – keep an eye on the labeling and measurements to make sure that you are getting what you want!.

We have bred hundreds of gerbils for a decade now, and this is the only wheel we use. We have never had a case of bumble feet. Perhaps the bumble feet is a hamster thing. The 8″ is the right size for gerbils.

The advantages: 1) gerbils tend to pee when they are running on a wheel. The wheels that have a solid surface capture that pee and it stinks. 2) the wheel is open on both sides and will not trap the gerbils if tipped over.

3) The wheel can be attached to the sides or top of the cage. This makes it impossible to tip over and avoids noise from hitting the sides of the cage. 4) the wheel is metal and will not be chewed up.

5) the axles can be waxed with a crayon or a candle and it will be absolutely silent.

I’ve had small pets (hamsters, mice, gerbils) for more than a decade. Never had any problems with these wire wheels. I like them because the base is so much sturdier than ones with a one-sided base so my pets don’t tip them over as much.

These wheels are also convenient because they can hook onto some wire cages. They also keep my pets cleaner because waste falls through the mesh.

Medium weight wicker tunnel. This is a well made item. I got it for our bunny but it is too small. But my bunny might be too plump! However, she loves to flip it upside-down and sit in the inside top side.

She enjoys pushing it around. Keeps her busy! SO all that said. she likes it for her own purpose. I like that she can crew it safely.

The only downside to this tunnel, is that it does not last very long in the enclosure. The gerbils tear it apart in minutes!! They love it, but it’s pretty expensive for something that they will destroy so quickly.

Not sure if I will purchase again. If you have critters that don’t chew like gerbils do, then this would probably be a nice hideout for them.

These are great for more chunky treats. Fruits and vegetables are my personal recommendation for this, especially hard ones like carrots and apples. Hanging it, or just attaching it to a bottom part of the cage to rest on the floor and roll it around.

It’s been a year and it’s still working well for me!.

I think the width is more like 3. 5 inches. I haven’t measured, but it was bigger than I expected. I haven’t found a good way (yet) to use it for my rats’ treats/food, so instead I use it for bedding materials that they can pull through the slots.

I’m a new rat mom, so I might find other uses for it as I try new things with my rats. I took the bell off because I didn’t really care for it. It does seem really durable. -Christen C.

This is a good accessory to have because you can connect your habitats together with it. I don’t know what I would do without it. This accessory is for small pets like hamsters. I would recommend this product.

Do not buy this if you have gerbils or any small animals that primarily chew. They should only use wooden items because they will ingest the plastic. Not safe and can lead to a vet visit. I was not thinking correctly and thought it was really cute and fun for my 2 gerbils but they demolished it almost instantly and i took it out very fast.

If You have other rodents this might be great if they don’t chew as much as gerbils.

It’s very cute for what it is. I like that I can bend it into different shapes. My hamster seems to really like it. My hamster now pays more attention to this tunnel than his hamster wheel now. He also has started hiding food in his new tunnel.

I’m happy he is enjoying his new addition to his habitat.
