20 Best Toys For Rats (2022 Updated)

I ordered this for my piggies to switch up toys during floortime. My cats and dog already had similar ones that the guinea pigs can partially play, but I like that this is specifically geared towards smaller pets.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone with a small pet (gp, rabbit, ferret, hamster, rat). It took the piggies a few minutes but once they got it they were so proud of themselves! One would “popcorn” and runs laps every time he found the treat! They only downside is that it’s pretty easy and once they get it, it may become boring.

All you have to do is switch up the level or not use it for a week. Bring it back out and they get excited all over again!.

I love spoiling my monsters. They actually like the toy just fine. But they go crazy for pellets, period. I have a dog toy made of recycled wood that they scratch to open that uses the same idea but without lose-able parts.

I got this enrichment activity thinking Bunny would learn how to slide the disc to obtain treats. According to the box, the ‘game’ he already mastered (removing game piece lids) was advanced. Bunny is smart enough to figure out how to remove the big disc to obtain treats vs.

sliding it. We still have tons of fun, even though he knows how to cheat to get treats. It’s super easy to keep clean (quick handwash/air dry) and not a hassle to store. Bunny loves the undivided attention (only a few minutes/day), its HIS (doesn’t need to share it with the cats & dog) and of course the bits of treats earned.

We reccomend this 3-in-1 game to all of our curious, problem solving furriends.

I recently got the Tomcat rat & mouse killer child & dog resistant, disposable station for use in a shed where we have issues with mice, especially in the fall and winter. I’m in central PA. We use the shed to store patio and other items during the winter, along with bird feed, seed, and other yard care items.

While I tried to seal the shed as well as I could and ensure that any food sources (e. g. , bird seed and feed) are properly sealed/stored, I still end up finding mouse droppings and bedding each spring when I take patio furniture, etc.

back out. I tried humane mouse traps (placing them along areas where I know, based on scat) that mice travel. Despite baiting them with some tasty treats, the traps didn’t work. It was time to move to more drastic measures.

While I haven’t placed it in the shed yet (it’s not quite time for fall storage here in central PA, it’s getting close), I’m looking forward to seeing just how effective this thing is. Some points to note.

Obviously, when handling this station, use disposable gloves and wash your hands with soap and water after handling. Also, this is not a trap. Nowhere that I saw does the station’s label indicate that it’s a trap.

This is a bait station that contains 0. 01% bromethalin… a lethal nerve agent… and, it is NOT humane. If you’re looking for humane, look elsewhere. I tried humane methods. They didn’t work. While I don’t like the approach this station uses, I’m forced to use it at this point, as all other measures have failed and the mice (not an infestation, but a nuisance just the same) are chewing holes in my shed’s floorboards.

The time for playing nice is over. Would I use this approach in any living space? Not, unless absolutely necessary. You have to understand, the chemical slowly kills the rodent. That means that it ingests the chemical, walks away, and dies.

Where it dies remains to be seen. Hopefully you can reach the dead rodent before it decomposes. Otherwise, you potentially have a whole other set of problems. For use outside, in a shed, where there are no cracks or crevices in which to crawl… yes, I’ll chance finding a dead mouse where I might not otherwise expect to find it.

Also, while the chemical concentration is enough to kill mice, rats, and other rodents, it is not nearly enough to kill cats and dogs (or people)… although they could get mildly sick from the dosage, according to trusted sites.

Do the research on this chemical (using medical/trusted chemical sites) if you’re worried. FWIW, the station is sturdily built. It would be very difficult for any large animal (or person) to get into the housing without mechanical means.

Worth purchasing? That remains to be seen. Based on reviews on other sites (with 10s of thousands of reviews indicating that this device works as designed), the Tomcat Rat & Mouse Killer Child & Dog Resistant, Disposable Station appears to be safe (for non-rodents) and effective.

While I wish humane methods would’ve worked, they didn’t. It’s time for other measures. Based on all that I’ve read about the effectiveness of the chemical (and the concentration) used in the station, and how well I can personally tell you that the station is built (ensuring that nothing gets into the station other than what it was designed to allow), I’m going to give it a four-star rating.

You’ll see lower ratings provided by a few. However, read the ratings closely. The lower ratings are generally offered because the station doesn’t offer a professional-grade chemical and/or because it uses an inhumane lethal nerve agent.

A) Consumers can’t legally get professional grade chemicals… for very legitimate reasons. B) the chemical and concentration used will do its intended job. And, C), you have to go into this purchase knowing that the method of killing the rodent isn’t humane.

Based on my very thorough research, this station will work for my use case, which is why I’m giving it a solid four-star rating.

These products always seem to be hit or miss. My late hamster didn’t like these. My current rodents aren’t big fans either. One of them will chew this occasionally, but it’s been chewed on so little that it almost still looks new.

I also know that they claim the dyes are safe, but there are so many wonderful products out there now and I’ve honestly gotten away from the dyed ones. All natural untreated wood gives me more peace of mind.

The product itself is made well, seems to be sturdy and looks like fun. Just because none of my littles have liked it doesn’t mean it’s a bad product. Even my most extreme chewers though don’t chew it.

I’ve heard you can use the TINIEST amount of peanut butter and spread it across some of the pieces ever so lightly to encourage chewing, but I’m not the biggest fan of that idea, especially since there are other products that work better for us.

I don’t think I’ll be buying this product again, but for the price I do recommend you try it at least once.

I’m so happy with this purchase. I have a 14 year old Pomeranian that had a slipped disc several months ago and it’s easier for her to eat from a raised surface. I got the elevated bowls in pearl white and I was concerned that the bowls would be an issue because my pom eats wet food that is really hard to clean off surfaces one it starts to dry.

These bowls are awesome – they have a coat of something that makes them so easy to clean and makes me hopeful that they will last a while. This is a great set that feels like nice quality for less than $20.

I’m not really sure why, but they absolutely love it. It’s a Kaytee product, which I normally despise and will not buy, but I decided to try it out. I’m so glad I did! I bought 2 of these, and both they have demolished in a matter of days! Generally, I buy the larger hangable wooden chew toys meant for birds, which lasts a few weeks or even a couple months, but these get destroyed in about a week! One of the girls (Maya, a female white-self red-eyed Rat who was born blind) chewed the stick connecting all of the pieces, which made it fall from the metal connector.

That tells me she loves it!! And no, I don’t feel like it’s a waste, because they’re only meant to be chewed, right? Plus, the more they chew it, the more they love it! The only complaints I would have about this toy is that, 1, it’s made with pine and artificial dyes that is not good for small mammals.

2, I wish it was a lot bigger so it could last longer for Maya. 3, I wish the stick holding it all together wasn’t made of wood (maybe stainless steel or some other rustless metal). Other than that, I do like the variety of shapes and sizes the toy has, and I also like the price lol.

Only reason why it has 4/5 starts is because of the reasons above.

It really is a huge heavy duty version of the bendy joint from a plastic straw like others described. It’s easy to stretch out, keeps its shape well and the ridges create good climbing surface for my rats to really get almost completely vertical! I used extra large (~30cm) cable ties to secure it to the sides of the cage and again the ridges are perfect for it to not slip within the ties so it’s very secure.

It really is perfect.

I think I bought 10cm one and the material is very strong and flexible. Imagine a straw with the extender in the middle; but 100x stronger. It made it very manageable to bend into the shape I desired to develop a tunnel going from 1 floor to another floor.

And it’s very advantageous and beneficial to have a big radius from minimum to maximum length.

I bought these for my degus as i know they love tunnels ect. They’re excellent for them to dash in and out as they play, they love to sleep in them as well and with them being extendable it can be made to fit the space.

Would definitely buy them again.

Even though this seems to be aimed towards rabbits, I decided to buy it for my chinchilla since it’s a wooden chew toy. Thankfully, he loves this toy! I always see him chewing and deconstructing the entire thing.

It really seems to be fun for him and of course keeps his teeth filed down and healthy. Definitely a great toy for chinchillas!.

I think it looks so real I bought it for a gag gift to someone but now I might keep it! The shape is perfect and the proportions are very accurate making it look so life like. Impressed.

It is a super soft plush, and very cute. Is one of the more accurate looking rat plushies Ive seen. Great quality for the price. Love it!

I buy these for rats and dwarf hamsters. My first dwarf, a Roborovski, was too small to chew anything but the wheels but she chewed them into gladiator spikes, haha. The rats chew the whole thing, but ignore the green grass stuff.

My current dwarf hamster that has this toy is a 3-legged Campbell’s dwarf and she pushes it around and chews on the wheels a little bit. She also ignires the green grass bits though. I might just take them off like i usually do.

I have had this toy since I first got my rabbit. He has barely touched it. It’s so cute since it’s a car, but I regret buying it. My rabbit only chewed the little green grays at the end and now doesn’t have interest.

He doesn’t like rounded wood chew toys.

I bought this a couple weeks ago, and my guinea pigs like it more than their other chews. My pigs only like a select few toys and this is one of them! The only bad part is that one of my guinea pigs likes to rip out the green strands, which leaves a mess in their cage.

This has been an excellent source of mental stimulation for my 2-year-old ferret, Otter. It took him some time to figure out, but interest stayed pretty high throughout and now he’s got all three levels beaten.

The only trouble is that now he’s gotten so good at rapidly uncovering the treat cubbies that I’ve had to start filling most with his regular food so he isn’t eating dessert/snacks all day. I think he’s getting a little fed up with me.

Product came earlier than expected and came exactly as described. Very sturdy metal and won’t bend easily. However, be aware that although it does come with a suction cup for tanks, I find that it doesn’t stay on for more than a few minutes before falling off.

If you have a glass tank, you’re better off just finding another way to attach it to the glass, or hanging it from a string attached to the top of the tank. Also, my gerbils wouldn’t go near the bell, which I’m sure isn’t so good for their hearing, so I took that off.

Plus with the bell, it also made the chews very high up and difficult for them to access. However, I do find this convenient to give them their vegetables, which I simply put on the dispenser, so that I don’t have to put it on their bedding or toys and make them wet or moldy.

There are definitely some things I would fix with this product, but considering it’s cheap and one of the only things like it on the market, I would say it’s not a bad item for the price.

This is so adorable. So far my bunny seems ok with it and I think he’s very interested in the bell and why it’s there. He actually hasn’t gone up to it yet to chew on (the bell) but I think he will eventually.

I think the fruits are cute and the design is well made. It’s easy to screw to his cage. (My cat is in the picture with him. They’re friends and she had to check it out too. ).

this is such a cute toy for all small animals. I have used it for hamsters and guinea pigs, but I’m sure it would work well for gerbils, birds, and so many others. this toy has an easy to use latch that is good and secure.

I love that you can add your own treats to customize the toy and keep it fun for your pet.

Superb rope, best I’ve seen. The quality and price beats other online and high street retailers. The plastic screw mechanism to connect to the cage is fabulous and doesn’t loose grip! The boys (rats) love this and due to the size and 2 separate end pieces (4 in the total) the possibilities and positions to hang this in their cage are endless.

This product is very good, however, the picture displays the colours yellow, green and white and ended up being sent a purple one (I have a themed cage and it doesnt colour co-ordinate at all which is a shame.

) I did want the yellow one! But overall, I cant fault the item as its very useful :-).

GERBIL/HAMSTER OWNERS please read!!! I had to rate this low due to the one issue I had. Please be careful using this for smaller animals! I bought the medium one for my two gerbils and I loved it originally.

They burrowed into the soft material and it was so warm! However today I just found one of my poor gerbils pinned to the wall of the tank because he couldn’t pull himself out due to the cylinder shape of this product.

His lower half was stuck between the glass tank and this tube because, as fellow gerbil owners know, they love to pack their bedding around there hideouts which is what they did with this tube. When I found him he was digging with his front paws to try to get a grip but couldn’t! Thankfully I check up on my gerbils often so he wasn’t there long but I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if I hadn’t found him.

Lupine uses superior materials; the fabric is durable; the quick release clips are strong yet easy to open/close; the “martingale” (limited cinching) style collars perfect when fitted correctly. Also easy to adjust length of collar, but then it stays firmly at that size.

Only problems: 1) that same easy to snap on hardware at the end of the lead, at least in 3/4″ size, doesn’t fit to clip on wider collar/harness rings. 2) now that newer designs in certain harnesses [can I say “Simple” and “Easy Walk” here?] show that attaching the lead/leash to a ring at the FRONT of the dog’s chest drastically increases handler’s control and ease of walking a dog who pulls and/or lunges, I think it’s a shame that there are still so many harnesses on the market that clip onto the dog’s back.

As a lightweight woman, I can easily control 2 dogs totalling 90lbs with a single hand using the front clipping harnesses. Don’t know if it’s an issue of design patent, but since harnesses with the clip on the BACK simply encourage an animal to PULL harder, and given most people getting harnesses are struggling with that very issue when they chose a harness over a collar, I wish Lupine too would make the design shift to front clipping.

On strictly style notes, I’ve always wished Lupine would make the “Cherry Blossom” pattern in 3/4″ or 1″ width for my Japanese Shiba Inu mix mutt; also it would also be great if Drs F&S could carry more of the pattern styles offered by Lupine for these products.

My rats like these a lot. I tried them a few different times, different ways. First time I left all the yellow fluff in. I was never worried that they would eat it like some others have posted. The rats eventually remove it all and it tends to really stick to the bedding.

The next time I gave them new ones and just a little bit of the fluff. Just easier to make nests. They love to rip out the insides of the tube and “design” nests. Always so creative. Unfortunately they end up peeing on the cardboard nest and it smell.

Always goes in the trash with the rest of the soiled bedding on cage cleaning day.

Good chew for any animal who chews. Cheap and affordable. My rats like it. Only reason its not 5 stars is because the rats chew the thin stick that holds it together. They can still chew the pieces, but its not a hanging toy after that.

It doesn’t last long but overall a good chew. Its very fun while it lasts.

I really like this toy. Unfortunately, my little piggy isn’t very into toys. If I hang them she won’t even touch them, so I remove the clip & unscrew the metal hook. Then I just drop them in her house.

She chews a bit then gets tired of it & that’s that. Luckily these are not expensive so it’s worth a few dollars for the limited amount of play time. If your babies like toys, I definitely recommend these.

Purchase this product at Petco so that my little hamster can be entertained. This product comes with a hook that you can hook on the the hamster’s cage. It also comes with 4 additional toy that can be replaced after the other ones are all chewed up.

Everything is made of wood, therefore it’s safe for them to chew as well as also helping their teeth. There’s no visible glue on this toy as compare to other similar toy like this. I feel safe to let them chew on it and hope they have fun with it as well.

Sadly they were out of the rabbit toy box so I purchased this instead and I’m happy I did. The pieces are about the same size as previous bunny chew toys I’ve bought. I can also give some of the pieces to my sugar gliders which is an added bonus.

The colors are very nice. I love that you can pick and choose to make a custom toy.

I got this for my hamster. Unfortunately the part that is suppose to hang, broke before I could even get it hung. Otherwise my hamster seems happy with the rest of it and I went ahead and gave her the pieces of the one that fell apart.

Last ages for thr little amount they cost ! Great value for money ! Great product ! Does exactly what it needs to do and is not too small like some! And wilko value beats the leading retailers also.

Good buy. My two rabbits love to run in and out of this barrel/Tube. Good in dry weather but don’t leave out in rain as they disintegrate with wet weather. Try to bring them indoors at night. If inside there is no problems.

Could be a little cheaper for what it’s made of.

Was looking for a larger mouse/rat toy because our cats always lose them under furniture and kitchen appliances. These are the purrfect size. Only one tiny problem. Cats were able to chew off the thin tail within minutes.

They still play with them just fine. Would like to see them in bright colors so it wuld be easier for humans to find.

I adopted two stray males (around 2 years old) and was trying out a bunch of toys to see what they liked. My one cat is EXTREMELY shy with humans (I don’t know what happened, but he certainly has PTSD).

I have had to work hard to gain his trust. He spent the first few months watching me, but running from me. This toy, however is his favorite. He presents it daily to me and his cat buddy. Meows until somebody comes and acknowledges his “kill”.

He only does it with this big giant rat. I saw another review that another anxiety cat liked it too, so maybe there is something to it. My house will always have one of these for my little guy as it clearly makes him happy.

I bought my bff one for her new kitten.

Bought this because it looked like one I bought at the Petco store but this one isn’t refillable so eventually the catnip disintegrates the cats played and slepted with it eventually ( they don’t touch anything new) so I left it on the carpet and it’s lost most of the catnip and I not a seamstress!! Other than that the rat’s size is about 2 in bigger than most furry rats & mice and the fur is good.

It’s definitely worth the money.

This dragon-like creature is straight from Wonderland! As with most Folkmanis puppets, the workmanship is exquisite. And the makers have been true to the illustration by Tenniel from the original “Looking Glass” edition (only the waistcoat is missing–see attached photo).

But non-Alice fans will appreciate the delight this critter evokes. A bit of experimentation with him reveals that he can do all kinds of movements most puppets could only dream about. He can be worked one-handed in the usual style, but I have found that two hands really make him come alive.

Here’s how I do it, but you may find other ways: The left hand goes first into the body UPSIDE DOWN, connecting to the neck and the wings. This allows the neck to pull back and spring forward. Then slide the right hand into the opening to work one arm, letting the thumb wag the tail.

It is possible to work both arms and the tail, but it is a stretch. Alternately, omit the tail and do only the arms. The legs are not set up for hands, but someone truly ambitions might have another puppeteer work the legs by adding rods.

But this Jabber already does so much that it really isn’t necessary. If one had an EXTREMELY long finger, it is possible the mouth might work, but for us more usual folk, getting access through the long neck isn’t doable.

And with the hand in backward, it is very expressive as it is! One downside: My husband has larger hands and he couldn’t get the other hand inside and it was a tight fit for one hand. I love this puppet! Be aware it is going for a wide range of prices, so shop around.

Fur perfect & lovely size for baby sloth. Do wish magnet at the back was same size as front for hanging options but working it out. Beautiful puppet & very well designed. Photo is of Mango (name of puppet) giving a wink of appreciation for finding his home with me.

Bought for our two Guinea pigs. Initially loved it looks great and very spacious but unfortunately after just 2 months we need to replace. Its impossible to easily get the the back corners to clean and the piggies are using this area to well.

The wetness is soaking straight through to the wood and leaking through the cracks. We have lined with water proof covering but due to the design with the drawer there are too many gaps and its just not proving practical.

The wood is already rotting. Expensive for such short duration of use.

My hamster will not stop chewing through this cage at all she is constantly getting out , she has the full bottom story filled with bedding , a huge wheel all toys ,a bed, stuff to chew on , fresh fruit and veg every night , along with normal food banana chips peanuts and mealworms.

We give her attention let her out of the cage but she doesn’t seem to like it that much , she has chewed through the bottom of the cage , through my carpet (a huge hole in my carpet) and through the floor board , she was literally under the house trying to chew through the roof into the living room, I have put metal under the cage but she is squeezing under it and chewing new holes , nothing I do will keep her in this cage and now I can’t get a new cage as I have a huge hole in my carpet.

ANY ADVICE WELCOME. Only other option is to rehome.

Had a big nest of rats that decided to make there home under our summer house after trying some cheap poison baits that didnt work! then used this and good night rats !! Took about 3 weeks and I used 1 tub.

No one wants to find they have a rodent problem, but if you do then this product works quickly and efficiently. I would definitely recommend (along with an enclosed bait trap) to speedily control a potential problem.
