20 Best Trailer Lock Set (2022 Updated)

For a long time I wanted a locking pin for my Class 1 and Class 2 hitches – this is the perfect choice. The primary lock fits both of the pins easily and holds on with no issue even over a thousand miles of towing.

Having both sizes makes switching convenient and it also includes a second pin lock that worked great on the trailer door.

I like that both locks have the same key. I like the security of knowing my latch and receiver are locked and won’t come apart in transport. Don’t be fooled into believing these items secure against theft.

They may stop an amateur, but one sharp strike with a hammer and chisel and the pins will snap.

I have not used it yet but when I got it and I tried the lock they seem like they are hard to get on and off. Looks to me like if they get any kind of dirt in them they will not work. I sprayed some silicone spray in the lock when I got them to see if the locks would quite sticking.

I will be using them in a couple of weeks so I will post another review after that. Just by messing with them i dont really like the way they are made.

The best part is the shunt type of key. No worry about it breaking on you with a rusty or dirt filled lock. The trailer hitch lock seems a little small but it is strong and serves its purpose.

I bought this for my swing tongue boat trailer, it’s a good strong lock that does the job well. The one down side to the lock is that it sometimes sticks when trying to remove the locking mechanism. Good lock overall.

Bought two paired packs, online, with paired locks keyed alike, but different from each pack/pair. Items functioned as expected, and appear to be well made and of good quality. The keys are thicker than normal keys, less likely to snap off in the lock.

Product was delivered to the store two days earlier than promised.

Have used this combination of locks for almost 4 years on a boat trailer that is stored outside in midwestern weather. The locks work perfectly and both show just a small amount of rust. The square-cut keys make theft more difficult and the use of 1 key for both locks is a great plus.

Just bought a second set for another trailier. As an aside, the coupler lock goes under the coupler latch, not over it.

I ordered this before a cross country drive. I feel better knowing I can secure my trailer to my car, and that any ‘snatched and grab’ thieves will move on. I recommend giving all moving surface a good greasing, and keeping the rubber caps to cover the keyholes.

Because of a new motorhome I needed a set of locks that had two hitch locks since I now have to use a towbar drop adapter. Wanted everything to be locked up for security purposes. Had Blue Ox locks before (a set of 3) that worked great.

My issue with these new ones is that they changed the traditional flat key to one of the round barrel keys. They are much more difficult to lock and unlock, the key wants to fall out too easily compared to a regular flat key tumbler.

Notice how the picture shows regular flat keys? You don’t get those! Another criticism is the rubber keyhole cover. Much flimsier than the prior Blue Ox locks, they don’t want to stay on and cover the keyhole.

I can just see water and dirt getting in these, and then the locks becoming difficult to operate in the future.

Recently set up my pickup for flat towing; this set (keyed alike) will lock your Blue Ox towbar to your towed vehicle ( points), the Blue Ox towbar to the receiver, and a drop hitch (which I needed to make sure the towbar angle was not excessive) to the RV all in one set.

I like my Jeep locked to the motorhome. They are easy to lock, unlock, install, and remove. I use a thin coat of white grease. The barrel keys are a plus too.

I bought a non-BlueOx locking pin for my hitch and after one year the pin would not release. I had to cut it off with a metal grinding wheel. My 8 year old Blue Ox locking pin has never failed or seized.

Therefore I bought a Blu Ox to replace the seized/broken Chinese garbage locking pin. Don’t cheap out like I did the first time.

I really like Blue Ox products so had high expectations. The problem with this product is you need two hands to lock and unlock, even then it’s not easy. Also, it’s slightly too long, thus easier for would be thieves to cut then others on the market.

I bought a few at different times, and they all use the same key. Meh.

Not long enough for a factory 2″ Toyota receiver. Rubber cap difficult to remove and is of poor quality. The rest of the lock appeared to be well made but because it doesn’t fit a stock 2″ receiver I’ll never know for sure.

Yes, these are keyed alike. This is the main reason I purchased them. BUT, it feels that the keying was reset manually by someone. This isn’t a problem, but the barrels for the keys are loose. They dont come out, but they sure feel like they are ready to.

Also, one of the locks doesn’t “click” like it should. It still locks but there is no click (this is a metal ring inside the lock that is mis-aligned). Overall still a good lock. I highly recommend that you take it apart and add some more grease to it, just be ensure it works for a long time.

The lock sets work just fine. They remove a lot of aggravation sincentives you only use one key. BUT they came with a bent key. How does a key get bent while still attached to the lock? Or why would someone attach a bent key to a lock set? At least I only have to get one key made rather than two keys for two different lock sets.

BUT forget using Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace; you have to use an actual locksmith – $6. 50 per key. Fastec needs to hire people who care.

I replaced my old loose worn out door lock with this one. & it was a major improvement. Nice & solid works smoothly very good quality.

The product was exactly what I wanted. Modestly priced, covered three lock points with a single key. All three items worked as expected.

Love the product. The older models came with a bag to put your locks in and also the tongue lock could be closed without the key so I’m missing that feature, but was in dire need of a new set for my trailer.

So far so good.

Perfect one less key to deal with. Arrived early. Very happy with it.

The locking mechanism slides to accommodate multiple ball size so you need to ensure the lock is installed snugly before locking. Seems to be good quality and durable but only have used a couple of times.

Chinese junk compared to the old shiny one that was 3 times the weight and made in the USA

This is an excellent product. Very strong and easy to work. No problem with the keys! Buy it.

Bought it almost exactly 16 months ago to the time of this review. Looked great, worked the first time I tested it. Won’t make the mistake twice. Put the key in today, gave it a turn, and the tumbler broke without releasing the pin.

Managed to get the key back out but it won’t go back in and now the pin is a permanent fixture to the hitch. Hitch shop says only recourse is cut it off and since the space is tight, expect cosmetic damage to the receiver.

Won’t buy again, don’t recommend.

I bought two of these to connect a hitch step to my truck for a truck camper. Lock function works great and inspires confidence. Great spring lock functionality and highly durable. I was disappointed I couldn’t buy two with the same key set as now I have to carry to keys for using two.

I just purchased this Reese Coupler Chrome lock it is so strong and sturdy. It is very heavy for as small as it is. It also locks and nobody is going to be stealing this thing. It comes with 2 keys that come with it too.

I highly recommend this lock to anyone.

This is what the trailer dealer recommended to me when I purchase my enclosed trailer from him. It is what he had on his trailers. I have only had it a week or so, so I cannot really tell you how it is going to hold up in the weather etc.

I think it will serve as a deterrent to most thieves, though the ones that can pick locks will can do so in just seconds as I watched a YouTube video and seen a locksmith pick this in a few seconds. It gives me a little peace of mind, it’s just a tool to help, doesn’t mean your trailer cannot be stolen, just adds a little more work for the “common” thief.

Seems to be made of real good quality but doesn’t fit my 2 inch ball like it soppose to. I can use it but I cant close my latch all the way down. So the lock just fits loosely and flops around. It’ll work for me because I live where theft ain’t a major problem but if it was, I wouldn’t trust this the way it is on my trailer.

Latch opening was not wide enough for my latch. But for the narrow latches it would work great. Nice lock.

I used one of these on my trailer for a year and when I lost it the first thing I did was get online to buy another one. The lock is easy to use and hard to tamper with. A lock of any brand or any cost can be ground off with the right equipment and ample time, but I put my money on this one as a good deterrent to quick theft.

Small lock is good for my motorcycle cable lock. Definitely not for luggage

First off. nothing is 100% theft proof! Just make YOUR stuff harder to rip off than someone else’s! This lock Will do that! I chain the rim to the axle so it wont roll, chain the trailer frame to a steel pipe in the ground, and NOW lock the coupler with this.

I really like the heavy feeling of this lock! The yellow and red ones don’t even come close to this one. I think I could hammer in nails with this lock! Shackle is 1/2″? Maybe 5/8″ diameter? Both sides of shackle have teeth that lock in.

Shop around as I did, and find a sale price! The sale I found was so good I went back and purchased another! If someone jacks my trailer now I can at least know I did what I could. Worth the 35 bucks! Highly recommend!!.

I was almost ready to return this as it could be pulled off when locked in place. I then realized if I just turned it around it would fit more securely. This makes the key lock to the back but you can move it enough to ge the key in.

You have to be careful when it is unlocked as the bottom portion will fall clear off and land on your foot, and that hurts.

Works well and feels very high quality. Also like that the keyhole has a cover to prevent weather damage. I’m using on a UFP coupler for a boat trailer and while it does move around a bit, it’s not coming off without cutting.

This stuff is incredible. Very easy to use, goes on easy, dries fast. The only caution I would give is once you go to put the two pieces together, know ‘exactly’ where you are putting it. You only have ‘ONE’ chance at putting the pieces together.

I do recommend to compress the area cemented together. For me that is using a rubber mallet and pounding the entire area. Depending upon what and where you cemented two things together you may want to use a rag and rub or a roller.

Point is, put pressure on the joint.

Got mine 2 months ago but lost the keys (luckily not while it was installed), and tried to buy 2 more, but the price jumped by $20 each, and they haven’t been in stock for the last month!

I was looking for a great way to secure the trailer and after a few minutes of research via Google, the Trimax UMAX100 was mentioned. I thought the product ingenious and quick to deploy versus a variety of other ways I have seen utilized to secure a trailer.

The cover is a little flimsy but at the end of the day, it works! Very straight forward to use.

Easy to use, and once locked, I don’t believe someone could get to it to cut it.

Lock engaged but not fully. Will replace with one that has a longer locking shaft.

We bought this to go with our Curt CHT-18153 carrier. It works well. Easy to lock and unlock. Has a cover to keep moisture out of the key hole. Good design for being able to access it to unlock when the carrier is full.

Great product. Perfect fit for my trailer’s swing tongue.

So far it works, seems a little cheaper than Master Lock. But if your looking for a longer pin this is it.

Woodland creatures apparently felt the need to gnaw off the cover that’s built into the plastic case on the lock mechanism, as pictured. This exposed the lock mechanism to the elements. No amount of graphite would lube the lock to allow it to turn.

While still trying, I found that the key is only slightly stuck into the plastic base. The keychain loop does not go through both the plastic and metal. So the metal key will pull out of the plastic key base easily.

The key itself is also quite thin and made of soft metal. Trying to use a set of pliers on the key to see if I could gently coax the lock into turning, the key simply bent and snapped off inside the lock, as pictured.

I was then left with cutting the lock off my trailer, which took literally seconds with a battery-powered cutoff tool. So the quality is shoddy, the lock will freeze up if exposed to the elements for any length of time, and the metal is soft enough that it stands up not at all to tools.

This lock is not worth it.

I bought it knowing the lock isn’t going to stop a mildly dedicated thief. Like any lock, it is just a deterrent. So, the key was hard to insert and remove. Perhaps the edges of key’s profile are too rough, or the internals rusted, who knows.

I added some WD-40, that worked a little while then wore off. The one day removing it my key gets real stuck and the plastic handle came off. Boo. Also the exterior metal is not weather proof and so started to rust pretty quickly.

Was slightly disappointed that this wouldn’t actually cinch flush against both sidles of the ball lock handle on my travel trailer, which means it allows some daylight for someone to attempt to get cutters in there – the whole scenario I’m trying to prevent.

I guess this isn’t a one-size-fits-all, if the sides of your lock handle aren’t parallel/square. I may try putting some washers on both sides of the lock handle, come spring, to see if that solves the problem.

I realized one day that my whole trailer could easily be stolen right from my truck’s hitch because with the ordinary pin removed, the whole trailer could be shoved away from the truck. Scary, huh? You first disassemble the lock part to create your own combination.

Then you hook up and relax! I hoped for just slightly better construction, but it works well, and fits tight. Fumbling with a key under there or a lock that can get corroded didn’t sound like a good idea to me.

Quality product that works well. Like the cover to protect combination lock. No longer have to worry about carrying or forgetting a key. Wish I could find a smaller hitch pin version.

Perfect fit, and because it’s a combination lock, you can set your own numbers and stop carrying around a bunch of keys for each lock.

Love most of my HF gear, but this one is a hard pass and could leave you in a real pinch if it fails. Mine only lasted 9 months in the mild Texas weather, until lock wouldn’t turn due to internal detent pin seizing from mild rust… can’t recommend this one! HF does sell a version with a more standard lock that looks much more secure (if you’ve seen the YouTube vid of locksmith reviewing this one, it’s laughable how easily a pin lock like this can be popped).

Adding some white lithium grease initially and once a year might protect the detent as well on either model, but this gets one star for lack of security and durability.

I had picked up a cargo hauler for my van, so I could move my Predator 9500 Generator more easily and had forgotten to get a locking hitch pin for it, because if I were somewhere with it attached, I didn’t want it to walk off.

I looked at several other places, and this is the best one I could find for the price and it works great. I have a Master one on the back of my Sedona that I cannot get off because it rusted within a week.

This one has been switched between my Ram C/V and Dodge 3500 Maxi, without any issues.

It’s decent quality. The rubber cap to keep debris out of the key hole always falls off and eventually blows off going down the road. The keys are super soft metal and can break easily. O may be me but the keys aren’t easy to insert in the lock.

Other than that no other complaints.

I bought this yesterday without looking at the reviews and boy was I ever disappointed… After removing the packaging, I managed to unlock it and get it onto the trailer but then immediately ran into trouble! The lock mechanism was defective and wouldn’t pull back the pin to unlock the bar so it remained stuck to the trailer!!! But here’s the kicker: after watching a 45 sec Youtube video, I was able to remove it by sticking a box cutter knife along side the bar and push down the pin! Worse.

Lock. Ever.

This trailer lock will not unlock no matter what you do. I bought 2 of these and i had to end up destroying one of them when i needed to use my trailer! The keys (3) wouldn’t unlock it! There are a ton of complaints about the Reece Towpower and I will never buy another one!.

It seems pretty sturdy and strong, and fits my trailer well. I feel fairly confident in its security, although all locks are able to be broken. The thing with this one is that it’s hard to get the key to release the bar.

I had to fiddle with it (in the cold) quite a bit to get it off my trailer.

After reading all the reviews on the master locks, I decided to take a chance on these as all the people who had issues seemed to rave about Trimax. I simply put the pin through, added a little gorilla tape and a zip tie on top of that to keep it from having too much movement.

Very sturdy and secure. Great buy.

Received my Trimax Receiver Lock and installed it in seconds. Fit more snugly than my OEM pin, thus reducing rattle. My specific model was the bent-pin lock but all look equally functional. Bonus was that I also have a Trimax cable lock for my cargo divider which is coincidentally keyed alike.

If I backed my car into salt water frequently, I might order the stainless steel pin but this is an overall quality piece.

Trimax locking hitch pin seems to be of good quality. haven’t owned it long enough to tell. Be forewarned, this lock is sooo big, I have trouble hooking my safety chains to the hitch frame. Extremely cheap dust cover will most likely be gone, or useless within 6 months.
