In manufacture the box had some heat distortion of the front and sides along some of the welded seams. Using box for jack,lug wrench, minor tools and riding gear for the quads. Excellent value for a nice looking trailer box.

Had to modify inside position for the lid ram for the box to open fully.

This is the PERFECT tool box. It is big enough to house a 9,000 lb winch, battery, jack, lug wrench, tire covers, remote, etc. Don’t buy anything other than this. You will never know what you missed if you get a smaller one.

Installation instructions are lacking in detail. Also, the box initially jammed shut because the factory setting of the nuts on the U-bolt latch were too far to the left and caused a jam. Once those issues were resolved, all is well.

I bought this box to go on the front of my tandem axle trailer to store chains, binders and straps. First, it is a very sturdy box. I was pleased with the heft and the quality of the finish. The weight was only 51-lbs, not the 98-lbs shown on the website.

Secondly, the packaging for shipping was just adequate. It was packed in a single-wall corrugated box and one of the corners was slightly damaged with the powdercoat finish removed. As I needed this box now and didn’t want to ship it back, I accepted it as-is and did not return it.

Third, as delivered, the lid would not stay closed or locked. I had to adjust the striker quite a bit to get it to reliably close and stay locked. Other than that, a nice box. Would consider buying again.

This is just the right size for me. It is well built and holds my small tool box, jack, 4-way, straps and an electric winch. I would have given it 5-stars except for the mounting hardware and lack of installation instructions.

The metal is too thin for the small self-tapping screws to have held securely for very long without cracking the thin aluminum. I used some old 1/8 inch pieces of steel strap and two 5″ x 8″ pieces of 1/8 inch aluminum and clamped the box to the tongue frame with some 3 1/2 inch 1/4 inch bolts instead of trying to use the self-tapping screws.

The installation instructions that came with it were for a pick-up bed box and had nothing for a trailer tongue box. The lock is adequate. I have already recommended this to some friends.

Unit is extremely light and seemingly thin walled. I should have paid extra for a heavier steel box, I hope this one lasts. I bought a nicer box for my truck for less at Home Depot a few years ago (around $100 versus $170), they didn’t have tapered boxes for trailers.

The mounting hardware is also pretty weak (a small bag of sheet metal screws, no holes pre drilled in box).

I purchased another toolbox for my aluma trailer to stow my yard equipment in. I just wasn’t happy with it. It was a square toolbox that sat too far back off the tongue onto the cargo part of the trailer.

I went to TSC online and checked the specs. Ordered it and installed it. TSC refunded me my money on the other box installed. I am grateful for the cistomer service in the initial and subsequent purchases.

Nice enough for the price. Got it on sale. Aluminum seems a little thin but time will tell how it holds up. Looks good on my aluminum trailer.

This is a great box. We bought 2. One for our ATV trailer. We put helmets, gloves etc in it. The other one is for our jetski trailer and we put all our jetski stuff in it. Awesome looking box!

Good, Solid, Attractive, Lots of room for tools. I haul my trailer to get free firewood. I will store my ChainSaw, fuel, oil and tools in it. I made a template from the measurments provided and it fits perfect, I am making a hitch for the back of the trailer for my woodsplitter.

Gonna be toast warm this winter. Woodstoves give the best heat.

Lined it with 1/2 in plywood & bolted it in place, for my OR trailer electrical box, this will work great. Plywood made it solid. Minor warping on some of the box panels, great price, fast shipping.

Very happy with the overall quality of the toolbox, very durable. Unhappy with the paint. Numerous areas were the finish was rubbed off during shipping, especially the corners. Unfortunately the supplier has ignored my request for touch up paint.

This was a nice addition to my trailer. It seems to be a sturdy box as evidence from the poor packaging. They shipped it to me, and the shipping box was beat up. The tool box survived ok, just a small scuff and a minor dent.

I’m not to worried about it. Overall I’d buy it again, but I’d rather pick it up at the store if possible. Anyways, it holds a full size floor jack, 2 tire scotch’s, 4 large ratchet straps, 2 motorcycle straps, and a small led lantern.

I plan on putting a lug wrench in it as well. No worries, I’m glad I bought it.

Bought this trailer box last week to mount on my new Tractor Supply aluminum trailer. The on-line purchase process and in-store pickup was very convenient. The store people were very helpful and nice to deal with.

The box itself is very nicely made and finished. Very roomy inside. There is a major problem with the lock design. I was very lucky not to have the box permanently locked unlike some other customers who purchased this item.

It was necessary for me to ‘re-engineer’ the lock in order to insure that it would work. I cannot recommend the product to someone without mechanical skills willing to address the lock issue. I would like to suggest that tractor supply replace this product with an American-Made version.

This box is solid. The lid is strong. I can stand on the box and it holds my weight well. The seal keeps the water out. But the latch mechanism failed about 45 days after I bought it. And it wasn’t heavily used.

I only took it on two trips in that time. After much effort, I got the latch opened with a hanger wire and found that the latch mechanism wasn’t broken, it had just come loose. The way this is designed, if you pull the handle really hard, the handle mechanism will slip off the locking mechanism.

After I got it open, I fixed the mechanism but it is still loose and will likely happen again.

It is mounted on the front of my daily use trailer. I live in Colorado which is not a rust prone state. As soon as there was a little stone chip in the paint it started rusting. I’ve tried to remove the rust with abrasives, then primer and repaint the areas rust is forming.

But then rust bubbles come through in another area of the box. The hinges are starting to separate now so I will soon have no choice but to replace the box. The lock on the box is bottom grade as well, offers very little in terms of security.

Just for grins I tried picking the lock and as a novice lock picker I was able to easily pick the lock in less than 1 minute. The lock more or less just gives the impression that it is secure, but it isn’t.

I was skeptical to buy a tongue box from harbor freight but due to price I bought it anyways. Perfect example of you get what you pay for. I should have spent the extra money for a higher quality box, buy once cry once.

I wouldn’t recommend this box.

Some have said the steel is thin. Then go pay for a expensive box. Some have said the holes don’t match their tongue. It is impossible to match every application and I fault HF for drilling holes. Drill your own holes to fit your application.

Some have said the hardware doesn’t fit their application. Not all trailers have the same frame, if the supplied hard ware is incorrect then spend a couple bucks and buy what does. MY experience is this box does what it is supposed to do, and that is contain items for your trailer.

Mine looks great and fits MY trailer tongue after I drilled the holes to hold it down. no big deal. I placed 1/2″plywood inside just to protect the bottom that will get the most abuse. that’s a no brainier for me.

Bottom line: for the price, I like this box.

I tow a 23′ travel trailer with my SUV, so anything I add to my trailer needs to be lightweight. This fits the bill. The 2 3/4 version of this box that HF sells is way nicer and is roomier as well, but it was heavy and wouldn’t fit my space.

This one is very thin steel. If you’re going to be storing heavy stuff in it you’ll likely want a plywood liner at the bottom to even things out and keep the metal from denting/bending. I keep backup RV related supplies that aren’t heavy, so this works out great.

To update some of the previous reviews, it appears an upgrade to the gas shock allows the top to open close to 75 – 80 degrees – almost a perfect 90 degrees. The top does not get in my way. When comparing this box to the other one offered by Harbor Freight, the lockable latch is a MUST.

I did need to fine-tune the latch so that the top would close firmly – this is almost to be expected with ANY box of this type, regardless of manufacture. The gauge of metal is adequate but does not make it too heavy and fits perfectly within my the tongue of my trailer and looks sharp.

I just installed it last week but so far, so good. I have had my eye on it for a while, so last week I had a 20% coupon so I pulled the trigger, and I am glad I did, so far. Quick install (bolts and washers aren’t included but I had some left over from another project.

) My trailer is the same color black, and this box looks like it was made for it. I read some reviews about people having issues with the latch mechanism but so far I have not had any issues with it.

I am not sure how weatherproof it is because I have not towed in the rain since installing, but I don’t have anything in there that would hurt to get wet anyway.

After reading about latch failures I was reluctant to purchase this box. But after looking at a few and comparing them this is the best box for the money. Steel bottom with an aluminum lid. That detail isn’t in the description.

Light yet very strong. For 400 to 500 bucks you can buy a polished aluminum. 063 box but it will be flimsy. For the money this box can’t be beat.
