16 Best Transfer Punch Set (2022 Updated)

These 28 punch tools are very good for making dot artwork; Mandalas. A solid tool that feels good in the hand, easy to pick up paint on the round end to make the varying sizes of dots. Punch sizes: 3/32to 1/2, overall length: 4-7/8.

The stand is also included so each one of the punch tools (28) stay organized.

I found this out the hard way. You get what you pay for with stuff like this. At least it wasn’t a big investment.

These look and act better than the Harbor Freight ones . Very good set for $12. The 17/32 punch is great for 1/2″ holes and not included in most sets.

My past experiences buying Economy priced punchs has never worked out. On a first project the punches break or bend, thus you are lucky to get thru your first project. Of course Ive learned with the ultra thin size punches in the set you gently tap your roll pin in.

Definetly do not swing your hammer like a gorilla. These punches seem to be decently heat treated and if you use them with a degree of gentleness from your hammer this set should hold up and last. Premium punch sets cost 3 to 4 times what this set costs.

I feel i great a decent quality At a bargain cost. I think if you treat them with respect and dont pound them like a jack hammer youll get decent life from these punches. Ive probably gone through 4 sets of cheap punch sets that broke fairly quick and feel these are the best deal Ive gotton on a set in the past 15 years.

I purchased these to install the trigger guard on an AR receiver as well as the bolt hold-open pins. You cannot afford a slip-up in that installation or the receiver could be ruined by breaking off an ear, or cosmetically scuffing up the sides of the receiver when pinning the bolt hold.

The roll pin punch is essential for this purpose because of the little tip that keeps the pin in place. Really, how often does the average person reach for the roll pin punches? That’s what makes this a good quality purchase.

This set suits my needs fine. It’s not Craftsman or Snap-on quality, but it’s fine for a non-professional’s use. Seems reasonably well made, especially for the price. Each punch is wrapped in plastic sheeting, and has been oiled with a very thin oil, but each showed a little bit of rust when wiped clean.

But for the price, and for the use I have for them, they’re exactly what I expected, and what I need. I don’t want to spend $75 for a dozen chunks of steel I’ll use a couple of times a year. If I were earning my living with them, I’d spend more, but these are fine for my needs.

Not sharp at all, and there is no way to polish them. I should have returned these but don’t want to pay for the return shipping. Weaver shouldn’t sell these in the first place. Totally worthless.

The quality exceeds the cost. It’s perfect if you are getting started in leatherwork such as belt making. Great range of punch sizes and works good even in thick leathers.IMG_3386.JPG

These leather punches are much easier to use than those with a grip . I have found with the lack of strength in my hands that using these is far easier and therefore always gives a clean punch .

I purchased this punch set to punch out 1/2″ neoprene, and 1/5″ felt into 1″ circles. These are glued together to make up-stop pads for an organ console pedal board I am rebuilding. The punches are durable, sharp, and hold up well.

However, for best use two things are critical: 1) Use a rubber mallet. You need the mass of the mallet to be effective. A hammer makes the job way harder. 2) Punch on top of a wood block sitting on top of a hard, unmoving surface.

I use a sheet of plywood on concrete. The wood alone is not enough. If it is resting on a table, a metal work bench, or similar, there is still too much flex for the punch to be effective. For thicker felt, no punch is ideal, because of the material itself.

But I was able to make it work by soaking my felt pads in RO water, shaking off the excess, and freezing them. This made the felt rigid enough to punch effectively. Then just wait for the result to melt/dry.

My only gripe is the cheap plastic pouch the punches come in. Canvas would be much better. The plastic won’t hold up well.

This set is mostly what I expected. The punches are in excellent condition, sharp, and sturdy. Came coated in a fine coat of grease, as quality tools usually do.

As a retired tool and die maker of 40 plus years, I’ve used these punches almost daily in my work. The machining on them is top notch but are only hardened on the tip. they will bend, especially in the smaller sizes below 3/16.

This is probably to avoid fracture and possible injury so care must be taken with the small ones to strike as straight a blow as possible and align the punch straight to the dowel or roll pin. Once a punch is bent, it can usually be straightened with a ball peen hammer, but seldom to it’s original state.

Given all that, I still use Starrett and consider drive pin punches as a sacrificial tool unless used under the lightest of conditions.

We purchased the LS Starrett product because it is made in USA (albeit at a premium). The set I got from my grandfather was in a round wooden case but that’s a secondary consideration – the punches are exactly what we needed.

I use these for gunsmithing. Because they are machined to tight tolerances, they are perfect to finish driving out various pins after using a starter punch. However they can break easily if not careful; they will eventually mushroom on the work and strike ends and are expensive to replace.

Properly cared for these punches accurately transfer hole locations. Used with a light ball peen (machinist) hammer to carefully mark hole location; then enlarge prick mark with a suitable regular tapered prick punch (not included) to enlarge the mark preserving the punch tips & therefore accuracy of the set.

(A standard toolmaking procedure) Used with correctly sharpened drill bits, holes will be located precisely. These punches are useful in a great variety of situations beyond tool making to all types of metal fabrication, & repair for locating holes.

It’s a “Transfer Punch” to be lightly struck with a small hammer thereby leaving a small mark which can then be struck with a “Center Punch” and heavy hammer leaving a large enough indentation to guide a drill bit.

What do you like least? Limited to material thickness of. 140” (9/64” to 5/32”) or thicker due to length of point. How long have you had it? This is my second set, had the first for over 10 years. What’s you experience level? Perfectionist professional, hobbyist on a cost effect budget.

Bought this set of transfer punches because they are American made. The tack welds on the punch holder were broken. The punches and punch holder were dirty so I washed them and all the black finish came off the punches.

The punches looked like they came right out of the heat treating furnace without cleaning or finishing. The 7/64 punch was missing and the 31/64 punch is cracked. Should have sent them back but needed them for a job.

Next time will buy the china made for 1/3 the price.

Broke a bolt in the crank snout of a Kohler twin cylinder 18 HP engine and I needed a way to positively mark the center of the bolt before I began drilling for the EZ out. I purchased these transfer punches to do the job and they did exactly what I expected of them.

I have never owned a set of transfers before and I don’t use them often so for that reason I didn’t want to spend a large amount of cash for something I was only going to use occasionally so I went for the cheaper version of punches.

I decided that for the price that I would get the entire set instead of an individual bit in case I needed them at a future time for Gunsmithing work that I sometimes perform on firearms or any other use that might arise.

The manufacturer of this item uses a Cold Black Oxide surface treatment that will rub off during use. It is suggested you use gloves while using the product. Some good glove options can be found on page 2723 of the MSC Big Book.

If you plan to do some serious fabricating, (pay more, get more). These will work great for bracket replacement and household use.

This is a nice set of punches. Heavy duty and nice holding block. I have no problem with the product itself. The only problem was it took 8 days before they put into the mail for shipping and took a total of 11 days to get it.

Ordinarily this wouldn’t be a problem however, this was from Arizona to Calif. Would have been nice if I had at least been notified of the delay in shipping!.

I use these for locating body mount locations on sprint car bodies. Works well for Aluminum panels, not as good for carbon fiber or fiberglass. Tip could be taller.

After years of guessing, magic marker marking, and home made pointy bolts heads I finally broke down and bough the correct tool. Yes I would reccommend these to anyone who uses more than on quarter turn fastner.

Starrett is a name with a history of quality. Great punch set. Sizes stamped on handles, all pieces true and straight. Just what you would expect from the top of the line.

The cutting tool worked well. I am disappointed that the punches did not have any size embossed on each of the punches. Even labeling each one inside the box would help.

Great punches. If you want the best you’ll want Osborne. Simply outstanding quality. This is a great set. The single handle replaceable tip design saves space. Recommended.

If you need a good punch set, you can’t go wrong with this one. Osborne tools are made in the US and the quality stands superior to Chinese products here. Nice and sharp. Be sure to use them on a rubber mat so you don’t damage the sharp ends.

This product comes in a nice box and has all the sizes. The problems that I had are that the brass punches are WAY too soft!! When struck, they bend and break. I have lost three of the punches already and had to buy others.

They distort even with a small hammer and a lighter touch.

This is a good product. Not a great product. The punches could be sharper. However, with a little sharpening on my hobby grinder, the punches did pretty well.

These punches met my need for making perfectly round holes in rubberized cork (also purchased on eBay). One good whack against a block of wood and the job was done. Very nice quality, seems like they’d be good for cardboard, leather and cloth, too.

Nice hole punch set. Used one of them to cut waxed cartridge wads too. They are sharp. Will see how long the hold their edge…..

Any size you need is in this set. As a novice gunsmith, these are invaluable. The pouch is a little whippy but it does keep them organized. Good buy and value

Received as advertised. I wish the organizer roll was more substantial. It appears to be made from the same material that is used for blow up to toys. Be careful with the smallest brass punch. It is easily bent.

I like this set as it is of good quality at a reasonable price. There are plenty of sizes offered for most work requiring a punch to drive out a pin. The brass is nice for working on metal surfaces that you don’t want to mar.

The center punch is very handy for making a centering strike on a metal surface for starting a drill bit.

Pretty much a decent, working set of chisels, and drifts. I think the drifts are actually a little better suited for their purpose tho. The chisels are best suited to moderate use on mild steel meaning nothing much harder 48 Rockwell.

To be fair, the cost still equals a very good value as long as you are aware of what they can, and can not do.

When sharpening both chisels there was no color difference in the grinder sparks and finished off with a file. The hardness felt the same. I know metal and it looks like they came out of the same batch.

The best thing is they both are warranted but the price is about 5 times more for the Snap On.

Although it is an Astro pneumatic punch and chisel set, it does not come in the red case pictured. I was needing the red case but for the price Ill just stick to what I got.
