15 Best Transmission For Street/Strip (2022 Updated)

I like so much campagnolo group set fitted to my bike because of unbeatable mechanical, unique design and lasting for finishing surface. I were using campagnolo since 1982 on my first bike. My dreams to have another group set 11s Athena silver finished for next bike.

Bought the 11-29 11 speed cassette as I am switching to an Athena EPS drivetrain and the rear derailleur capacity max is 29 teeth. My area has several steep climbs that I regularly ride and 29 teeth will be quite handy.

Typical Campagnolo quality and finish. Impressive machining and use of different alloys depending on cog size. Lock ring included.

I bought this to replace a 2002 13-29 10 speed cassette. The fit and finish is typical Campy quality. I especially like that this version has standardized spacers between cogs so you don’t have to be concerned about making a stack up error.

The shifting seems a bit more precise than my older version. The 30 tooth low end gear is just enough to be a bit more useful on the hill climbs in my area. I am running it with a compact crankset and a medium cage rear derailleur and it shifts well through the entire range.

If you transmission bellhousing is broken and the rest of your transmission is good this is the only way to go. Very easy to do with hand tools and is a safety upgrade also. Took me less than an hour to do.

The AXS front derailleur does not work with most older cranks. It needs a larger space between the large chainring and the crank arm. This is sad because AXS wireless might otherwise be a great way to add electronic shifting to an old bicycle.

That was my goal. I did not do any other testing, because I wanted to return the set as new, not used. I would leave out the stars, but ebay (and all other survey writers in this millenium) insist that everything be converted to star ratings, even when the test is completely orthogonal.

I admit that I am trying to use the product in a way the designers did not intend, and maybe even intentionally blocked, but it is 1 star for my application, and should be unrated for the designer’s application because I did not test that.

This is a great group set but i’m not sure why SRAM would ship this with the brake hoods already filled with dot fluid and completely connected with the hose to the brake caliper. The first thing you have to do is cut the line so you can thread it through the frame.

At the very least they should send a little plug so you aren’t dripping tiny droplets of dot fluid all over your bikes new paint job. Once on the bike I think the Force shifts better than the Red I have on my other bike.

The other bonus is Force can run a 33 rear cog set and Red will only go to 28. 90% of the wight savings between Red and Force are in the crankset and the rear cog set. Suggestion – buy those two items in Red, everything else in Force, and save a ton of money.

Having used the previous generation, I was a little sceptical and disappointed that SRAM hadn’t made any of the group set backwards compatible. Having used the group set now for a month or so, the differences are tangible and worthwhile.

12 speeds is only part of the story. I am running it 1x. AXS is subtly improved in almost every way. Nothing massive individually but the sum of the parts is impressive: 1) the texture on the shift paddles is a little bit more tactile 2) it is a little bit quicker and quieter 3) the smooth edges on the rotors are a little bit safer and the shape is marginally more aerodynamic 4) the clutch rear mech eradicates chain slap entirely 5) 1x works well and the extremeties of the cassette cause no excess drag or noise.

The jumps between gears were not nearly as noticeable as I had imagined. Altogether, I couldn’t be happier. I wish they had just upgraded 11 speed with some software because the shifters and brakes are really not different, but this is an impressive groupset.

This is my second tremec transmission. Both are behind 289 Studebaker engines. The TKO 600 is way more than I need but it works well and the shifts are crisp and smooth. The T5 is well suited to the 300 hp engine and also shifts crisp and smooth.

The old warn out T10 side linkage was pretty sloppy. Now it’s like driving a brand new car. T5 is nice. Just don’t put more hp to it than its rated for. Get the TKX. The TKO has been in for 3 years. The T5 for one year.

No complaints.

I bought this transmission to replace the AOD in a ‘88 Mustang. Trans shifts great. I did replace the provided shifter with a Steeda that I also got from Summit. They always have what I need.

I converted my 66 Mustang to this transmission and so far a good decision. very good quality product a perfect fit and operates as expected. Good gear ratio’s.

Missing inner seals for apply pistons, missing bushings, no thrust washers, items in kit labeled poorly. The cost of this kit is not justified. Very incomplete kit. Image chosen is incredibly deceiving and not an accurate representation of this product.

I would look at other brands. Some sort of adhesive on the steels that I had to clean off, do not understand why, this is possibly a quality issue. Separator plate gasket damaged. Beyond disappointed.

Everything that came in the kit fit fine but was missing a single clutch and steel. Because of that, I had to use an old one of each. This kit did not come with a reverse band. Considering this is an OVERHAUL kit you would think it would come with everything from front to back.

Luckily the existing one was fine. The filter did not have a filter element in it, just a fine screen that you can only see through the output feed hole of the filter. It also did not come with a new hollow center support bolt.

The rebuild went good, but I was expecting to put new bearings in my transmission and only found out that the only bearings that came with this kit are the main input and output. Luckily mine were okay, only spent clutches and was shut down immediately before the oil breakdown tore up the bearings.

Also includes a shift kit which I am happy with except the instructions for installation looked like it had been photocopied numerous times so it was difficult to read and the pictures were useless. Overall my truck is working again so I am happy!.

Outstanding derailleur, solid shifts that are consistent and precise. WAY easier to adjust than the AXS. If you get something wrong, good luck getting it to run like butter again. It’s like an old car vs a new car.

you can work on the old one yourself, but you need special tools and technology to work on a new car – same with XO1 vs AXS editions of SRAM. I beat the brakes off my SRAM XO1 12-speed derailleur doing Enduros and it has never let me down.

You can upgrade the pulleys and cage (out of the gate, or wait until you smash yours on a rock, like I did) to the ones from Garbaruk – they are outstanding for cassettes, pulleys/cage, etc and less pricey than equivalent from the original / SRAM stuff.

The upgrades will make some minor, but noticable performance and efficiency improvements – plus they look sick, as they come in a bunch of different colors. Ride it til you smash it, then customize your whip.

the derailleur will keep on shiftin’ Unrelated – “Save Some Loot” tip: FYI – you can add this to your google search – try: ‘part you want’ + ‘take offs’ and you can often find brand new parts that came from open box or new bikes who upgraded (and the brand new factory/bike shop-installed parts (w/o any box of course) were ‘taken off’) – typically for 25% off, if you can find a vendor online or local bike shop that offers that – call and ask!.

I am absolutely in love with this setup. The shifting is instant, silent, and super crisp. I always hated my mechanical setup, always having to adjust the cable tension and I could never quite get it right.

I felt like me previous setup was always missing shifts. Setup was insanely easy. I followed the instructions, set my limits, did a couple micro adjustments, and it’s amazing. Took maybe 30 minutes to install.

I’m no drivetrain expert, but I found the setup to be pretty smooth with basic mechanic skills. Very plug and play. It does take a little getting use to the new shifter. I do really like it, it’s just a little different ergonomically.

Not in a bad way, just a totally different feeling. Took a little tweaking to get right, but now I find myself loving it. I typically just rest my thumb on it comfortably while I ride. It comes with a really nice little multi-tool, I took that along on my first ride and spent a little time adjusting the shifter location.

Super easy. The battery is great. rarely have to charge it. I may end up buying a spare just to keep in the car or gear bag, but I don’t feel it’s really necessary. Might just be nice to have a backup.

If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend it. If you’re tired of your mechanical setup like I was, you’ll be stoked on the upgrade.

My son bought the AXS and loved everything about it for the FIRST YEAR. In fact, he would have given it similar reviews found on this page. Then, at an enduro at Silver Mountain in Kellog, ID it started to lose connectivity between the shifter and the derailleur.

We discovered that the plastic on the battery had worn down so the fit was no longer tight enough to keep connectivity. He was lucky enough to borrow a battery from a fellow rider and finish the enduro.

A week later, after purchasing a new battery, he unfortunately snapped his chain during a ride. After purchasing a new chain, we found that the derailleur no longer worked. We took it to our local mechanic who said it was broken and needed to be serviced, but when I called SRAM they said that the AXS is not serviceable.

When I told the customer service rep that my kid was really bummed to have worked to pay off the AXS upgrade and then just a little over a year later have to purchase a mechanical derailleur and shifter for another $300, he simply retorted, “biking isn’t cheap.

” I agree it’s not cheap. However, maybe SRAM and other developers should consider that when a new product is 3 to 4 times more expensive than the mechanical derailleur, they should build a product with serviceable/replaceable parts.

So, be aware that when or if something goes wrong with this system, you just have to buy another one. IF YOU RIDE A LOT, think about the cost of replacing this derailleur every year or two compared to the cost of a mechanical derailleur.

We will not buyer another AXS at this price point.

I wanted to avoid issues with the typical local trans shop and I currently don’t have a spot to rebuild it myself so I ordered this TCI C6 to make life easy. Shows up in a cardboard box with no packing material on a pallet with no banding/strapping.

Somehow it managed to survive the trip without any broken castings so I installed it yesterday. I used all TCI stuff from converter to oil. Test drive to day and it upshifted to 3rd one time and now it’s stuck in 1st unless you manually shift it so likely the governor is stuck.

Second problem is it’s leaking out of the shift shaft. 3rd, this is advertised as a 700+ HP trans but has the smallest servo (N which is 1. 93″, for contrast the R servo is 2. 48″) used in any production C6 that I’m aware of which doesn’t make me feel really good about that rating, fortunately this is behind a 250hp stock long block 360.

This is a direct fitment for the 68 Ford LTD with an FMX tranny, all the mounting holes line up! You will have to tweak the coolant lines and buy a C6 dipstick tube. The only downside is the you will need shorter bellhousing bolts on the top and right side and about an inch steel sleeve (cut my own) on the left side to mount the shifter bracket without modifying the bellhousing.

Lastly the shift arm will need to be longer to reach the tranny shift lever.

Believe it would have work very well with Another converter. Have a Galaxie 1963 and had to change the crossmember to make it fit. Can not say anything about it because it broke down after about a mile.

Think because a faulty or not correct converter.

Using this converter in an 87 s10 383 236 @. 050, th350, 3. 42 rear gear. It cruiese and drives perfect. Matte the pedal and it’s a total animal. Seems to be best of both worlds. Been in for 3 years.

TCI Trans ate itself after 1k miles. Will buy this exact converter again.

This converter offers good performance in my rock buggy. My setup includes a 6. 0L LS, TH400, 4sp Atlas t-case w/ 1:1, 2:1, 2. 72:1, 5. 44:1 ratios and 5. 38:1 axle ratio. The acceleration is nice. It does not pull through the brakes at idle in low range.

My Derale 25 row Hyper-cool trans fluid cooler is sufficient to keep temperatures in check. I recommend this converter for the price and performance.

A little looser than I had anticipated. I see FTI has recently changed the advertised stall on all this line of converters bumping them all up by 200 rpm. Mine drops back to 4400 on the shifts at WOT.

Blueprint 383, TH350, shifting at 5700. C10 is very quick with this converter.

I didn’t really need a new transmission but this one turned out awesome. I was happy to upgrade to a stronger trans and gain a 6th gear. It shifts a little rough sometimes but honestly it’s perfect you want an upgrade to support extra power output.

The figment was a little rough, the actual shift knob levee would make contact with the boot retainer and tore my leather shift retainer boot a little bit no big deal. Install took a couple days but I had never replaced a transmission and was doing everything from the pilot roller bearing all the way back to the driveshaft.

Took a little bit to figure out wiring for the reverse lights. And I have to rely on the manual reverse lockout instead of having the electronic lockout hooked up. I’m really happy with it and wouldn’t go back.

Transmission looks great, but be warned, once it’s installed, at low RPM it will make a rough sound, which is normal. So to start things off, they sent the wrong driveshaft and the wrong clutch and flywheel combo.

Waited 2 months for the transmission to arrive. Missed race week and cruising the coast due to their mistakes in the sells. It aggravates me that not all of the parts were sent to make this transmission work right.

It was supposed to be a plug and play. Make sure to buy a clutch alignment part also. If yah don’t your wasteing time trying to make it fit. Also with all of the phone calls back and forth with American muscle and their lack of nnowledge, they finally put me in touch with the head manager and he finally set me straight and had all my parts sent asap! Make sure you buy all the parts and make sure you talk to a manager before you purchase this item.

Once it’s all together, man what a change it makes! The transmission is a beast!.

The T56 was the must needed mod for my current build. The stock T3650 choked my cars driveabilty and performance. I had the transmission installed at a transmission shop ($500-$800). The T56 transmission for the 05-09 S197 GT was a true plug and play, remember the 26 spline clutch and 26 spline driveshaft are required.

I will say the power band increase is incredible and out performs the stock T3650. Get one, you’ll be glad you did. Next mod. pro charger ;).

Got this to replace the 4l60 I blew in my Silverado. It arrived poorly packaged (it poked through the flimsy box it was packaged in), but I figured whatever, it didn’t have any damage. Im happy it comes fully assembled with electronics and all, it made install smooth, paired the trans with a new oem torque converter.

Started it up and it ran great until it hit the highway. After that it got a p1870 code. I plan to replace the valve body since I have a new fully assembled one in my garage. Hopefully that does the trick.

Ive also noticed trans fluid seeping slowly out of the bellhousing access hole/dust cover. Should have bought a rebuild kit and rebuilt my existing 4l60, overall disappointed with this product for apparently being dyno tested and built to last.

They should also package this MUCH better. The box it came in was a joke. Price is pretty average, but should reflect a product that won’t have problems out of the box. Time to sort out this p1870.

I had a shop rebuild my stock transmission to be a “performance” transmission. $3200 later and i was still burning up 3/4 clutches. I was in a pinch and decided to order a trans in a box and jegs had the best price plus no core charge.

I received the transmission on time and went in without a hitch. This trans is quick shifting, very responsive, and has great positive shifts. Perfect for my cammed 5. 3. As long as the longevity of the transmission is good then I’ll be more than happy!!.

Took a trip from Virginia to Michigan, it was night and day. Lower rpm than factory. Plus I could really see the benefits of my engine upgrades done previously with this transmission. Had to remember that I wasn’t in a race car lol.

Told my avalanche group all about it.

This only took about 90 minutes to install which was straight forward and simple. I tested it on the street and it worked great. I hit the track tomorrow and looking to get my 60 ft times down!

Absolutely love it. Had my tuner shop install with line lock at the same time. Wow, leaves hard now. Can’t wait for my next trip to the track. May need new Mickey Thompsons before then from all the launches in the driveway!.

Product does exactly what you buy it for! With a stock torque converter for a v6 mustang, with the button pushed you can rev you stang to between 2000 and 2200 rpm and then let the button go, Launch like never before.

My 60 foot times dropped from 2. 2 to 2. 02 seconds.

So far transmission is great. Just installed so time will tell. Installed in 4th gen Camaro. I called and spoke to FTI and spoke about warranty questions and they was friendly and helpful. The shipping was one star I received the transmission it was upside down on a pallet although the box was clearly marked this side up fragile.

It looked as if the package went through a war zone. Maybe need to crate or band to a pallet rather than just put on pallet and cross fingers.

First th400 level 4 with transbrake went 4 passes on 600hp motor and something gave up in the internals of the trans. They warranted the trans with no problems. Put second trans in and it works flawlessly and hits hard every shift.

Transbrake works perfect and hard launch everytime. Would definitely recommend this trans.

I bought this transmission from jags in February it didn’t get in the car until May drove the car 47 miles and the reverse ban gave out it was installed incorrectly and didn’t allow pressure to get to all the parts he needed to call FTA they said I could ship back on my dime they would fix it and I would have to pay for shipping back $3200 later I have a junk transmission had to pay $900 to actual reputable shop to get it fixed because you only have a 90 day warranty from the time of sale I will never buy from jags or anything FTI again.

Top range mechanical derailleur for Colnago 12 speed rear cassettes. Does not use electricity, so does not suffer from flat batteries or wireless comms issues, but is 7. 4 picoseconds slower between gears (approximately).

The internal chain tension mechanism is too delicate, therefore care should be taken when transporting the bicycle or flexing the mechanism for storage.

Brilliant shifting, light weight with a greater range than SR 11 rear mechs of the recent past. Suprisingly, less carbon- the inner cage is alloy. But hard to fault on performance.

I have been using Campy 11 speed record for many years and didnt like the pictures I saw of this new 12 speed model. In person it looks far better than in photos, but it is the performance that really shines.

Will handle cassettes with up to 34 teeth, shifts smoothly, and the larger idler wheel has to be an improvement.
