20 Best Transmission Stop Leak (2022 Updated)

First of all this product is not intended for severe transmission slips or internal damage repair* I dropped the transmission pan on my 2001 Infiniti i30 and did not want to put the old trans fluid back so I filled with fresh new trans fluid and started getting slips after the work was done.

Prior to this service i never had transmission issues. I purchased this bottle and only used half the contents while the car was running at idle. Long story short I instantly felt the difference when pulling off.

Start with half, test drive, apply more accordingly, check fluid levels and top off with ATF fluid accordingly.

It’s what you’d expect it to be, goopy trans fluid. Be careful because it will stress out a fluid transfer pump, but it did reduce my transmission slip! I think I just have some worn clutches in there, which explains why this helped! It’s no miracle liquid though, just good to add when replacing “lifetime fluid” that has particulates in it which act as their own “stop slip” and is the reason why people say not to change old trans fluid.

This is a good substitute for that.

Well this is the 2d time I used this. 1st time , wow I was impressed. I put it in a Dodge Charger and it made Big difference. This time a 03 Honda civic, only drove it 2 miles so far. we will see.

This is not a miracle. It did help with shifting more smoothly initially, but if your transmission is slipping then there’s no fluid that will work or stop it from slipping and eventually a transmission replacement.

I just hope it will extend the time before I have to do a full replacement.

Am going to be honest, I just lured the bottle on to topper up my transmission fluid that was getting a little low. I didn’t do it during a transmission service or anything. Just poured the thing and the results were evident immediately.

I am driving an 2005 Lexus IS300 with over 200k miles in the odometer. I highly recommend.

I had a leak from the gearbox mainshaft on mt BSA A65. It was a new seal, and should have been oil tight, but it wasn’t. installing a new oil seal meant dismantling the primary drive and the timing and gearbox, so would take some time.

while mulling over the situation I found Liqui Moly, and decided it was worth a punt before tearing the engine down. I’m so glad I did because the leak has stopped and everything is fine. Recommended.

Leaking gearbox drain plug, not excessive just occasional drips, sadly the product didn’t work and the leak was resolved using alternative sealers and thread tape. In fairness i am sure it is good for the gears but on this occasion it didn’t resolve my issue, but perhaps i was expecting too much.

However, it wasn’t expensive and was worth the test.

Boat lower unit 1959 model 40 hp started leaking last year then this year really leaking a fair amount. I put in a full tube of this with about. 75 qt oil and then ran it for around an hour. Been several weeks now and no leaks so Im happy.

2014 Nissan Sentra with 150,000 mi CVT started to slip. old age for sure. Tried this CVT Fix. Added the 11 oz bottle through the top tube then drained 11 oz of fluid out the bottom of the pan. CVT completely failed in 40 miles from when CVT Fix was added.

Right away it started jerking and major slipping of the CVT belt. CVT finally gave up and went into Limp Mode (had never done that before). Milked it home under heavy protest (slipping and banging). Car sits dead in driveway.

Did the “CVT Fix” kill the CVT? Coincidence for sure but the CVT did have 150k miles on it. But how much further would it have gone without 11 oz of CVT Fix? Can’t blame the CVT Fix for sure but definitely can’t rule it out either.

I bought it today and it fixed what 2 transmission fluid drains couldn’t. My 2010 Subaru cvt has 175,000 and started slipping about 2 months ago. I had never changed the transmission fluid because I like to buy older cars and do as little as possible to them.

There were no metal shavings that I saw and the transmission fluid was in decent shape. After the first fluid drain, it stopped slipping for a day but began slipping more the next day. I had thought that I had over filled the transmission but I now think it must of been nearly a quart low in fluid.

Thinking it was overfilled I drained it again and initially did not fill it completely. Again it started slipping again the next day. I then bought this additive and put it in with some more transmission fluid.

I could tell it was a little low. Now I have driven over 200 miles with it and no slipping. I will update this post in a couple months. Hopefully it doesn’t slip again. This is my first experience with a slipping transmission and a cvt transmission.

2010 Subaru transmission doesn’t have a dipstick. I used Castrol cvt transmission fluid. I leveled the car on jacks whenever changing or adjusting fluid.

Not really, but transmission better. It did help, but was not a fix, not with a Buick 3800 engine in a LeSabre Custom in my case anyway. Probably not the fluids fault, but this car is all but done at 125K miles and has been a real turd ever since it passed the 60K mark.

Never again GM, you cured me even if Lucas couldn’t. AC condenser problems, instrument panel replaced, coolant intake manifold, left A frame, gas gauge, heater fan and heater and AC problems, four ignition control modules, battery and charging issues, countless O2 sensors, wiper motor and etc.

Yeah. you fixed me GM. The stereo still works great, you can listen to that on the side of the road, and pick your nose while you wait. If I had more time I could remember more.

This works great if your transmission shifts hard or used for prevention. If your transmission is already slipping bad and won’t go into gear. Then this stuff won’t work. This stuff works great but won’t work miracles.

I have been in automotive repair business over 50 years. I was always a believer in replacing a seal. But after trying this product, I always try it first. Make sure to use correct ratio. Of course it isnt for paper, cork, gaskets.

With a hydraulic system that has a large volume I just calculate the volume for the leaky cylinder and add it directly to the cylinder hose. The exercise it about half stroke several times then let it sit.

Two – three days. I suppose if a shaft where the seal rides is worn it may not save it. But worth trying.

EXCELLENT stop leak. Very useful in stopping rubber seal leaks. Depending on flexible of rubber, may need more than bottle says. If seal has hardened to become like plastic, probably will not work. Highly recommend trying first before replacing.

I thought this was another do-all placebo for my leaky seals but now I believe! I put a small, unmeasured amount in my elderly vertical shaft Briggs 11 HP mower engine to stop leakage from the lower crank seal.

Didn’t start engine for two days. Then started on the third day and drove about 1/10 of a mile. It was obvious the leak was gone. Drove back to the shed and parked over a sheet of cardboard to make sure.

Checked next day and NO OIL PUDDLE under the mower! Can’t wait to try SEALLUBE in the front differential of my old 4WD pickup which has leaky inboard axle seals. Sorry I didn’t find SEALLUBE earlier.

Man I tell you when I say it works it works. Put it in my 96 Acura 3. 5 rl because of the leak in my oil pan gasket, boy when they say instantly they mean it within seconds it completely stop the leak in the oil pan gasket.

It’s the only one that worked I tried bars leaks, lucus ( which did slow it down but didn’t stop it),blue devil and gold eagle had no effect at all. You must add it to a hot (operating temperature )engine.

This one was the only one that worked efficiently and effectively fast. 5 stars going to purchase more when I can find them to add to my arsenal because I’m a technician and it would take 10-14 hours to get to the oil pan gasket and replace it and put everything back together on the 96 3.

AT-205 WORKED on my 94 Lexus LS400. I had heavy white smoke from exhaust at 1st startup of the day and after long off times. Also leakIng fluid somewhere in power steering system, added fluid almost daily.

I added AT-205 to the engine oil and some in the power steering reservoir (Note: follow product instructions and use as instructed), drove it around a few days, and Holy$#!+, smoke went away and I haven’t had to add power steering fluid since.

Used it in my oil and front differential. My AWD Buick Rainier front axle actually goes through the oil pan (yes seriously a weird design) and one seal was leaking. After about 150 miles it was completely sealed! 👍 And has about 1000 miles since with no problems.

Saved me many many hours in repair work.

I used it on the transmission pan after I cleaned it of the old gasket sealer with a spray can of gasket remover. I applied the sealer to the pan and around the bolt holes. The only problem I had was it was near impossible to get it out of the tube.

I dont know if the tube was old or if had gone bad. I purchased it in October 2018 and used it March 4, 2019. I have about half a tube left but I dont think it will stay for any useful purpose. Its a gray/black color.

I will see if it holds up and keeps a seal. Its only been since Sunday when I finished it up so its on day four and no leak that I can see. I used the rubber gasket as well and torqued the bolts to 9 foot pounds.

That is plenty for a transmission pan on a Kia Automatic Transmission. I put the gasket sealer down on the pan with a light solid bead and around the pan bolt holes and then I set the rubber gasket on top of the gasket sealer on the pan.

I hand tightened the bolts in a cross cross pattern then gave the pan an hour set up to Torque at 9 foot pounds and then let sit 24 hours before filling up with transmission fluid.

Did TH400 tranny three times, the third time being the charm with no leaks due to putting this on both sides of the gasket, not just the pan side as they recommend. Put synthetic ATF in and have a drain plug on motorhome, so I’ll likely never drop the pan ever again just to change the filter.

Just wanted something that didn’t leak. Rubber gaskets do leak, all the time, despite proper torquing procedures.

I got this to seal a leak around the dipstick on a th350. Not exactly what it is designed to do but it worked. I laid a bead of it on a piece of cardboard and when it cured it was TOUGH. It has been several weeks now and there are no signs of an ATF leak.

I trust Valvoline but this product didn’t work for me. I put the entire quart into my transmission and had to add more fluid within 5 days. The baffling thing about this “leak” is that I never have spots on any surface where i park the van for and length of time.

Not sure where the fluid is going but it does go! And no it’s not leaking into my radiator, there is no sign of oil in the antifreeze.

Shift shaft seal leak on 1960 Cadillac Series 62 transmission. Trans was rebuilt in 1974. Driven less than 1000 miles from 1974-1980. Not driven since 1980 until now. Leak stopped with in 100 miles.

Valvoline lists the “regular” MaxLife ATF as a suitable substitute for Matic W type atf, which is very expensive from the Nissan/Toyota dealerships. Unfortunately, this isnt that stuff. It’s an adjunct product containing StopLeak.

The label directions say to use it only in a 1:10 ratio with the regular stuff. Unfortunately, the Advance website does not disclose this.

This is a helpful product I’ve used before both to improve shifting on older automatic transmissions and reducing leakage from old seals. Specifically I used it on a 1954 DeSoto which has a powerflyte automatic transmission.

The shifting has smoothed some and is more responsive as well. The leakage has slowed but not yet stopped. I would recommend this to anyone with an older car with an automatic transmission that might have these issues.

My 1997 Honda Accord with 160K miles was having some hard shifting, so much the mechanic originally thought the motor mounts might be worn. Not so all transmission. He warned me at this point if I were to replace the fluid and filter the transmission would go in weeks and not looking to spend $1800 for a rebuilt transmission and figured I have nothing to lose.

HE recommended a lubeguard product but informed me it wouldn’t help the transmission with shifting, so not sure what the purpose of that was. I usually use Lucas Products but seen the reviews on this product and thought I would give it a try, even though my transmission isn’t leaking I was looking for smoother shifting.

I have to warn to read the instructions fully because like other products that are direct replacements quart for quart this IS NOT. Assuming so much my first thought was to remove a quart of fluid from the transmission and I did this using my brake bleeder that uses a compressor and sucks the brake fluid out thru the caliper thus flushing the brake line, so I stuck the hose in the transmission dip stick hole and easily sucked out 32 ounces.

I did this because directly adding product which could cause a overfilling could be catastrophic. Not thinking I emptied the whole bottle and seeing this was much thinner in viscosity then actual fluid I double checked the bottle and to my surprise the ratio is 1:10, meaning 1 part per quart of transmission fluid, so in essence this bottle will treat up to 10 quarts of transmission fluid.

So I needed roughly 60-65% of the bottle because my transmission takes 6 1/2 quarts. So I then used my bleeder and sucked some of the fluid back out and since it didn’t fully mix with the fluid I got mostly additive.

I then topped off my transmission fluid with an entire quart of fluid. Weird how this came out but I removed exactly 32 ounces of transmission fluid by scale, added 32 ounces of additive, then removed 14 ounces of combined fluid and additive and added a full 32 ounces of fluid to finally top it off.

My transmission was topped off when I started and when I finished, somehow that additional fluid didn’t seem to raise the overall level, but mind you not to overfill the transmission and since the instructions are ASSUMING a filter and fluid change they recommend adding it ALONG with the fluid NOT in place of the fluid like other products.

Now to cut to the chase, I noticed an immediate change in the smoothness of the shifting of the transmission. I was expecting something thicker in product not something that smells like kerosene but I was also blown away at the smoothness of the shifting so much that I felt I had to write my experience so others could benefit and be warned that its not a full quart for most transmissions.

WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

We have a 2007 Chrysler aspen 4. 7L which was built with the 545RFE transmission. The vehicle is nearing 200K with original motor and trans. The transmission was starting to slip between 4th gear and overdrive on a long drive.

After reading some reviews I thought I would give this a try. Drained one quart of transmission oil out of the cooler line and added the full 32oz bottle of Trans-X. Wow!!! Incredible improvement!!! The transmission is running solid!!! I have driving it approximately 350 miles since I added this.

I am going to drop the transmission pan, change the filters, and add a new bottle of the Trans-x with AFT +4 this week now that we are home. I would definitely recommend this product if you are feeling your automatic transmission slipping gears.

It cleaned up ours excellent! Please note* follow the directions on the bottle closely and DO NOT OVERFILL YOUR TRANSMISSION!!! Doing so you may cause far worse issues that what you may have been experiencing.

** also, my transmission was not leaking. I bought this product to help with 4th to overdrive shifting and it has worked amazingly well.

I bought this product to fix a transmission leak on a transmission that has 223,000 miles on it. After I flushed my transmission with 28 quarts of trans fluid ( fluid got into the transmission from a shot radiator cooler) the transmission started leaking a quarter quart every time I drove.

I tried the honey thick stuff first, but it wouldn’t stop the 6 inch wide leak my transmission was leaving on my driveway. So, expecting another thick honey type product I bought trans x, drove it for a few miles, parked it and drove around the next day.

NO leaks! Incredible product I must say especially for the price. I’m too happy now especially since I don’t have to get rid of my favorite car! Thanks trans X!.

Put in the required amount. and yes, it stopped the leak. BUT. now my GMC Acada, 1) jolts when it changes into 2nd gear 2) has trouble changing into third gear / revs higher before shifting 3) higher gears seem fine Blue Devil should pay for all repairs.

that are caused by this product. Lack of info on their website, should have given me a clue that these people are tricksters. Blue Devil, if you’d like to pay for my transmission repair to rectify what was a perfectly fine working transmission, with a small leak.

I had a leak from transmission c-axle seal during the recent cold snap. I was so disappointed because Last summer I paid several hundred dollars to change the seal on the driver side. Before taking my car to the shop, I did some research and learned about this product.

I decided to try it and unbelievably it worked after 5-6 days (~400kms). The leak has apparently stopped and I’m amazed by this product! Thank you Blue Devil!.

I installed a new Torque Converter and I didn’t Lube the Lip of it. (Didn’t know I was supposed to) Anyway it kept leaking. I was advised to add this to my transmission to get it to stop leaking. IT WORKED.

IT REALLY WORKED. My transmission Shifts Perfectly and Smoothly too. The Best Part is that It Stopped Leaking and Hasn’t Started back. I am going on about 2 maybe 3 months.

Note; Lucas Transmission Fix will NOT repair broken Transmission parts, clogged transmission filters or clogged or broken computer sensors that are attached to the transmission. for these get the appropriate repair or service to your car.

In January 2019 I bought a 2001 Honda Accord for $1,000 that the transmission was slipping very badly between the 1st and 2nd gear and the 2nd and 3rd gear. Two Transmission shops told me that i would need to replace the transmission, A new or rebuilt Transmission was over $3,000, and a transmission from a junkyard was $800 to $1,600.

I would junk the car before I paid this kind of money for a transmission. RECCOMMEND YOU TRY WHAT FOLLOWS NEXT, If it works for you, it MAY save you THOUSANDS of $$$$. I looked at a few U Tube videos on the subject and decided to do a simple 3 quart transmission fluid change using 2 quarts of good grade ATF Transmission Fluid and the 24 ounce bottle of the Lucas Transmission Fix, the total cost was less than $40.

Within 24 hours there was a marked improvement in the shifting. Forward to September 2021. The same Transmission is running strong. This Car is my run about and is used daily for trips of up to t0 250 miles round trips.

Once a Year I do the three quart transmission fluid change service of two quarts ATF transmission Fluid and 24 ounces Lucas. NO Slipping and the transmission shifts and drives like a champ!! This on a 21 year car!! Thanks Lucas !!.

At 200k km, (with probably only one prior partial flush at ~160k), my Audi A3 (01M) auto tranny was starting to delay, and slam and generally play up. I messed up my initial empty and top up, as I had put back only 3 litres of Penrite ATF, because 3L (of filthy dark crap) came out.

The tranny completely stopped working. Hmm. Later, I decided to follow correct procedure of top up while engine running, and allow a trickle out. This time I added another 1. 5 litres, plus 750ml of lucas stop slip.

She took an extra 2L (5L in all)! Must have been super low as well as old n dirty! Result: most gears are massively improved. 1st to 2nd in particular is as new, or similar. So buttery smooth, you almost miss it.

I credit the partial flush w new ATF, and this Lucas stuff. BTW – in the photo, u see I warmed the thick lucas in hot water (gas is off, and it’s sitting on a ring above the pan bottom!) in order to help it flow quickly into the ATF pan.

Otherwise it’s thick like honey when room temp and would take ages. (Nb. it must really thin out in actual use). (Later I will do another partial flush; as a full flush is not an easy DIY). My advice: do a refill without, and drive around to see the impact.

(Sadly, I did not/could not). Then add lucas (and remove 750ml of your ATF) to confirm the real impact. And be patient with both tests – allow a week or ~200km of driving in each case. Conclusion: AFAIK – the Lucas made things so much better than I expected.

I have a very small transmission leak. A pan under my car collects maybe a dozen drops of fluid each day. I tried this product, following the instructions exactly. Now, I still have about a dozen drops in the pan, but also some white gooey blobs which I assume is this product.

It didn’t work. Looks like I’ll just keep adding a bit of transmission fluid each month, and keep the pan under the car.

I put a bottle of this in my 2015 Nissan Versa Note, drove from Las Vegas to Phoenix. Noticed improvement when taking off from a stopped position.

Once i added it to my 01′ explorer 4. 0 4×4,within 150 miles it had quieted the whine down 60%. Then under normal driving conditions ,at around the 900-1000 mile range it was almost unnoticeable. My explorer has over 248000 actual miles so i would recommend Bar’s trans fix to anyone.

I had a tuned Mercedes c250 Td sport automatic. 260 hp (standard power 150hp). It started to not shift into 5th when cold, then started to fail to go into 4th too despite having had a recent service.

Mileage was 120k at the time. I drained 700ml transmission fluid, added a bottle and it behaved perfectly for 30k miles when it started doing the same thing again albeit intermittently. I changed the ATF, filter and added another bottle of this stuff and drove it fault free for another 15k miles at which point I crashed the car.

This stuff saved me a lot of work. Transmission had no fault codes so it might have been some issue in the valve body which this stuff fixed semi permanently. Excellent stuff. I now use it preventatively on all my Mercedes 722.

6 gearboxes.

I have no idea if this will work in my old gearbox. however I did research, and the general consensus was that It is a general good fix it all. I have yet to use it in my gearbox having changed the oil to see what transpires.

I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT HAD A WORN STEERING PROBLEM AND PUT A SMALL AMOUNT IN, AND IT HAS HELPED FOR SURE. It is so thick I had to microwave 150ml to warm it enough to flow!!!!.

My car had developed a leak of oil from its gearbox. Although a manual gearbox, this stuff claims to fix leaks in all types of gearbox. I used half a bottle as is recommended for “compact cars”. Once this stuff was added the leak became MUCH worse almost immediately.

I took the car for a drive in the hope of it starting to work better when it got circulating. But that never was the case. The leak became so bad that it was coating my car’s underbody and suspension in oil (now stained red by the additive).

Not only did it make my gearbox worse it ruined my block paved drive. When I purchased this stuff I suspected that it probably wouldn’t work – but I never dreamed it could have such a catastrophic effect as this.

I have 04 Buick Rendezvous that was having a hard time shifting out of 1st gear. I was about to just give the SUV away and as a last resort tried this stuff and bam! My big baby was riding smooth again.

No cap. Lol.

Transx worked well on my 04 Silverado 1500 That was hard shifting between gears 1-2 but It did take some time kick in. Others brands claim it takes about 100 miles to work its way through the transmission, so I kept that in mind when trying this product because it was right around the 100 mile mark.

Only reason I didn’t give five stars is that is does still hard shift between 1-2 on cold mornings, but once the transmission warms up a bit it seems to go away. All in all it fixed 99 percent of my hard shifting.

I was told about this by my uncle aftrer telling him that my transmission is not getting into gear and slipping. I got this and it is a great fix for my transmission,a temporary fix till i replace the transmission.

I drive a 1999 Dodge Legend 1500 Van.

Excellent gasket sealer/maker for the modern day auto transmissions. I have tried other brands and had leaks, but this product works. Seals my pan without a gasket, no leaking anywhere. Easy to apply, just follow the instructions and all is well.

Highly recommend. AAA+.

Used on my GC impreza transmission pan. Flowed nicely and evenly. Waited the 24hr dry time as recommended as it is a second vehicle. Has held up well and no seepage.

I have used this twice. Once on my older son’s car to fix a whining power steering slipping issue (that got worse in mornings and in cold weather) and again on my own car when it developed an oil leak that even the guys at my oil change place couldn’t identify (but I had drips in the garage so I knew something was up).

Worked both times, no problem. Way cheaper than going to a dealer or mechanic.

I did have a slight pan gasket leak, and after driving for a week I no longer had any oil spots on my garage floor. This leak while not big, was there and now it is stopped. I was skeptical at first but after putting over a hundred miles of driving the leak has stopped.

Sealer appears to be working. I have not found any leakage at present. Thanks to Bars Leak for answering my question on a differential stop leak so promptly.

I’ve had my rear and front main seal’s leaking for well over a year. I have tried countless stop leak additives but with no success. I was watching a video on u tube and the guy was raving about AT205 so I decided to give it a try.

I found it on summit and ordered some. the great people at summit wasted no time getting it shipped out, I think it was even shipped out the very same day I ordered it. it arrived exactly when they said it would.

I put one bottle in my oil and drove it around for 500 miles. at around 200 miles I stopped seeing oil leaks under my car. after the 500 mile mark I got under the car and wiped all the old oil away and its been cleane ever since.

in my opinion this product is a miracle product. and I am now a repeat customer at summit.

I had been refilling the power steering on my 2011 Toyota Avalon every 6000 miles and after seeing a couple of YouTube videos i decided to give this a try. I pressure washed the undercarriage and found the leak was coming from the lines that connect to the steering rack.

I poured 1 oz of this AT 205 and cycled my steering wheel from end to end a couple of times. I have not replaced the power steering fluid but i swear this thing worked like magic. Not only did it fix the leak, it also decreased the effort to turn the steering wheel making it feel as if it was electric power steering.

I also poured 5 oz in the engine, sprayed all the belts, CV joint boots, motor mounts, and all the rubber components I could see for preventative maintenance. On another note, my friend was looking to replace an old overstretched drive belt on her sewing machine.

I took the belt out, soaked it in a glass container, reinstalled it and now’s nice and tight. No new belt needed.

AT-205 is the best additive I have found to recondition internal engine and transmission seals. It has also been useful in treating and restoring rubber bushings and gaskets. I am not a big advocate of any type of engine or transmission additive, but At-205 is one that I would recommend.

It is not an inexpensive product, but Summit Racing has the best price I could find on the At-205 Re-seal product, and AT-205 ‘s worth is in it’s effectiveness.

I have a 2007 high mileage Vauxhall Vectra which is used as a run-around. I spent a few hundred quid last year getting the car through its MOT and then couple of months later developed a power steering leak on the rack (passenger side).

Diagnosed as a worn seal, symptom: heavy steering at intermittent intervals. £230 to fix, this was changing the rack with a used one and labour. The car is not worth that so thought I would give this a go as a last chance.

Its been in three weeks now and the leak has stopped and power steering is working perfectly. I drained all the existing fluid, put the full can in and topped up with PS fluid. I didn’t think it was working at first but after a few days started to notice a difference, now its fine.

Be happy if it lasts until the next MOT!.

Bought this as the Mrs 2005 mk6 fiesta started to leak power steering fluid, had a quick look and could see a wet area but no obvious leak, so thought i would try this as the easiest and cheapest option, poured it in the power steering resovour, started the car turned the steering full lock both ways 3 times and checked the level in the resovour again and that’s it.

Fixed the leak so very happy.

This has stuffed up my car and made it 10x worse. Unless if your a trained car technician, though I doubt they would even use quick fix solutions do not use this, take your vehicle to an honest reputable expert (mechanic) get them to look at your car and fix the problem themselve, it could cost a small amount to repair instead of in the hundreds.

This liquid solution yes it costs pounds, but it could make a small problem huge. It does not work, there is no guarantees don’t risk it, it’s nothing but added stress, It’s not worth it.
