No time like the present to rekindle an old music flame. Haven’t touched a horn since 1989. I haven’t put the new one down since I purchased it from Sam Ash aka “The Playground. ” The salesman was great, the staff is always knowledgeable and courteous.

I’ve been playing trumpet for 14 years, and aside from holding a degree in the instrument, I’m also a huge gearhead. With that being said, the price point made me very curious to try these when they first hit the shelves.
My main complaint about student horns in this price range is that the high register is usually incredibly stuffy. Not with this horn! There’s a healthy amount of resistance up there, but it doesn’t back up like others do.
Kudos to the builders for figuring out how to work this kink out of the design!.
This item was returned in great condition. It looks and plays like new, with only minor signs of use (slight scuffs, etc. ). The Etude ETR-100 Student Trumpet’s generous bore makes it easy for a beginner to play while learning to form notes accurately.

I bought this silver-plated Bach Intermediate trumpet for my high school son. (I confess we had gone to many stores trying out expensive professional trumpets and looked on-line for years. ) Dillon Music said it was a store/floor model and I felt good that it was [practically] new.
He received it a week EARLY and my son was thrilled. It came with some cleaning oil supplies in a sturdy, black case with metal closures which he wanted. He loves the shiny silver-plating and the sound the Intermediate Back trumpet makes.
He says the keys don’t stick which is a big deal. He took it to school the next day and showed it to all his friends in the trumpet section before school. He says it is better than most of their trumpets (which I found interesting as most of them live in the more affluent areas of our town).
Because it came early, he was able to play it in a couple pep rallies at school and in their UIL Marching Band competitions at the end of the season. he was very careful with it. He practiced for Sectional Tryouts in band for a month and he made FIRST chair.

If you bought this new, it would be a lot more expensive. The trumpet was in good condition and sounds great when played. It was intended as an upgrade from my son’s beginner trumpet.

The most surprising thing about this horn is that it passed quality control. I purchased it in April as a gift for my grandson in on his BD in June. It was embarrassing when I saw the blemishes in the finish as he unpackaged it.
It appeared that I bought him some cheap knock-off horn. I would have returned it to M. F. but for the time that passed since purchase. Very disappointing. The brass tubing has a large brown spot that is very visible and the bell has some very similar blemished on the side that can be seen from across the room.
These are not dents, but actual discolorations in the finish. And now, after several weeks of playing he tells me that one of the slide tubes is loose as it appears that the soldering failed and we have to have it repaired.
After purchasing two of this same model horn, more than a year apart (one for my grandson, and later, one for myself), I noticed that the second horn has the same issue as the first. As we played several 8th and 16th notes in succession, we experienced the first valve often stopping about 2/3 of the way up or returning very slowly, throwing the horn off key.
we would re-oil and play a few more minutes and it would happen again. My horn is used only in practicing with him and playing for my own entertainment, but he plays in the school stage band and orchestra it this issue is becoming an impediment to him.
He will soon have to move to a more professional horn.
Bought this as a replacement for my son’s used Getzen (which broke). This was perfect right out of the box. Excellent tone, superb construction. Mouthpiece was perfect (a 7C came with the trumpet). This comes with a case, which was not pictured in the online photos.
The case is awesome – very well padded, solid construction, with a removable shoulder strap and “zip-away” optional backpack straps (you gotta see this, it is very cool!). The case may not be important for some, but if you have an 8th grader dragging and bumping the instrument every day to band class and back, you’ll appreciate it! Trumpet tone was better than the Getzen (brighter, louder, and more defined at high and low ends) – but the Getzen was 8 years old and had a lot of play time on it, so that may not be a fair comparison.
However, to compare it to a Getzen says a lot – this is not a “cheap horn. ” It certainly has tonal properties that will satisfy his musical learning into the intermediate and early advanced stages (I have 30 years experience on acoustic and electric guitars and a decade on drums – this trumpet compares to an Epiphone Les Paul, MIM Fender Strat, or a Ludwig Custom Accent Combo drum set).
Has the extra spit valve on the second slide, which is nice. This has all of the appointments of an advanced trumpet (such as stainless steel valves, which last longer than monel and nickle plated in this price/quality range).

Fantastic trumpet and very high quality and sounds beautiful. Some valve oil would be more essential than supplying a white set of gloves as you cannot use it without first applying valve oil to the pistons.
Using it without applying valve oil will damage the trumpet pistons and they will likely rust. I am knocking a star off because it is not ready to use straight out of the box. A cleaning rod, brush snake, joint grease and piston brush would be useful too (even if it put another £10 on the price of it).
The included hard case is very useful to keep it in a safe place when not using.

This is a fairly good student trumpet. It has braces where they need to be, no scrimping. I did find one valve slightly sticky. Upon disassembly, I noticed that the valve oil was ok, but I needed to burnish the edges of the valve slide slots as they were a little rough, and catching the sliding plastic spring retainer.
I burnished all the slot edges on all of the valves, and they now work like butter. The sliding plastic spring retainers will last longer, too. I like the fact that it came as a kit, ready to play, no extras needed.
The trumpet is a challenging instrument to learn, but it is also one of the most rewarding. It takes a lot of practice and dedication to become a good trumpet player, but the rewards are worth it. A good trumpet player can bring a lot of joy to those around them, and they can also make a good living playing the trumpet.
If you are thinking about learning to play the trumpet, I encourage you to do it. It will be a lot of work, but it will be worth it in the end.
