20 Best Tsa Luggage Lock (2022 Updated)

I’m a sports photographer, and I use Pelican 1506TSA locks on my camera cases. This allows me to lock the zipper-pairs closed, which makes it less likely that someone will rifle through my bags when I’m shooting an event.

The braided cable is very small in diameter – 1/8th of an inch, I think – and thus could probably be defeated with a pair of nail clippers. However, the braided cable fits easily through the eyelet of most zipper pulls, so it provides a visual deterrent and a minimal amount of protection when used in this way.

The lock itself is all-metal construction and feels durable, though I woudn’t smash it with a hammer and expect it to keep working. The lock combination is easy to set/change, and the lock opens reliably when the right combination is entered.

I know there are ways to determine a combination lock’s entry code, but again I was looking for balance between accessibility for me and theft deterrence for others, which I think this lock does well.

And for a very reasonable price. Though I bought these for use in my photography business, they provide the same benefits to me for my luggage when I travel,.

This is a great little lock made by Pelican. I’m currently using it on my Pelican 1510 Case, but you could really use it on anything. It’s lightweight, pretty darn solid for it’s size, and really easy to configure whenever you choose to reset the code.

It has a pretty thin cable, but it does the job and helps secure your gear. I wanted to first check out the quality and functionality, but I should have known with it being a Pelican product. It lives up to the name and I’m plenty satisfied with this product and will get another one in the future for my Pelican case.

No brainer, especially for the affordable price.

I think its an overreaction that you would actually be afraid that someone would take something the size of a handgun out of your Pelican case. I own the 1510 – and only own one lock. And true to some one star reviews you can reach in and pull some items out – in my case a 85mm 1.

8 (canon) could be squeezed through the side of the case without the lock when you unlatch the case. BUT – now I’ll just buy a second lock, and keep anything thats the size of your hand towards the inside of the case.

They’ll most likely never reach it, and you’re almost guaranteed that a dSLR body or lens will fit out of an unlatched Pelican case with two locks. I have yet to test, however, the durability of the wire.

In the event someone has pliers you may be SOL. If you lost your whole case I’m sure they could cut through it. BUT thats one of those outlier events. For what its designed for though, TSA approval and security of your items, get two of them (or a third in case you lose one), mark which is which so you know the codes (PLEASE don’t use the same code – they’re resettable = ) ) and keep one for a rainy day.

This is our third case from hard Cases for our handguns. they are what they claim, well made, your gun fit is correct for your make of firearm with the added shape/allowance for that bulky strigger locks.

All the construction of these cases are excellent, even the latches are well. They all come with the correct side holes for an option for a external lock as well. If worried about the purchase of one of these cases for your valuble firearms.

I initially purchased this to use with my new vault v525 hard case assuming that will work however pin was slightly shorter than padlock holes in the bag. Having said, this is a solid piece of equipment that is very well thought and I did not return it as I am sure will use it in any other bag in the future.

What is unique about this design is that it does not allow anyone to cut chain or pin as there is no loose chain or pin that can be accessed by pincers.

We found multiple issues with the lock and warranty. The first was not being able to use the same number more than once in the code. You only find this out once the packaging is opened and the instructions inside are read.

Apparently it’s for an extra layer of security but this is a non-issue if the combination is regularly changed when used for a short term rental for example. Second, the reset arm in this model is flush with the inside body of the lock and is difficult to engage.

Older dial models have a tab that is easier to move when resetting the code. Third, that reset arm jammed. Fourth, you had to “clear” the locking mechanism, re-enter the code and press the top button to close the lock.

It was a convoluted process for simply closing a lock. And now the return policy. We returned the lock after 3 days (it was only used once) but had bought a different version, from the same store, in the interim.

In spite of the correct receipt being displayed on their monitor, the warranty showed 0 days left. We could only get an in store credit because the packaging was opened and the lock was irreparable. The reasoning behind that logic escapes us.

We were disappointed with Canadian Tire’s return policy in this case. Normally they are quite good. We wound up getting one with the dials – much simpler and it works. We would not recommend the push button lock.

I received this lock on my gun case for my last restricted firearm purchase. Cabelas never sent me a combination, so I resorted to cutting it off the case. Not everyone may have the proper tools to do this.

I’m now waiting for another restricted firearm purchase. The firearm is (allegedly) being held for me, but since this lock has been backordered for weeks, they haven’t sent the firearm. Amazon, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, and many other stores have this in stock — both online and in brick-and-mortar stores.

Not sure why Cabelas can’t get this in stock, or use one of the many other combination locks they have in stock. Typically this would be an annoyance, but with Bill C-21 looming, I may never receive this or any other handgun due to a lock being sold out.

The lock itself is decent — I use one for my gym locker — but be aware it can be shimmed very easily, so don’t rely on it for valuables like phones, wallets, purses. I just use it to keep my change of clothes safe.

We used this lockbox for years until recently when we were unable to open one with the combo we had on file. It was a mystery to us, indeed. We were about to cut it off the fence, when I had an idea to google ways to open this lock box if you forgot the combo.

My search IMMEDIATELY returned several YouTube videos on how to pick this lock. All you need is a thin piece of metal. (It’s pictured at the bottom of the photo attached to this review. ) Just for fun, I tried.

People. I AM A SECRETARY with no experience picking locks. I was able to pick both of our MasterLock lockboxes in under 3 minutes. And both combinations did not match what we had on file. I think they had already been picked and the combos changed, as the working numbers did not follow our standard combo formula.

Needed a braided nylon rope for Dog training. This item stands up to repeated use in somewhat rough conditions. Needed a fifty foot length. 3/16 inch in diameter is just enough.

Canadian Tire is one professional place and provide the best products within their ability. I bought this goods(King Cord/Nylon, 3/16″ * 50’=4. 8m*15. 2m) for moving and tight the new mattress on the car: effective and supportable.

I use this rope for small craft projects. Its easy to cut and singe burn ends so it wont ravel. This product goes a long way. My fourth puchase.

I’ve gotten other locks from this company, and they have been good. However, this one broke as soon as I tried to set the combination! The button on the bottom to set the lock broke off.

Breaks easily. Do not buy. It is useless as another reviewer stated.

Not sure what to say. I love my Briggs & Riley suitcases and the locks that came with them. I ordered 5 additional locks for family members. Of those 5 additional locks 1 sticks and is difficult to use and another one will not open at all so was never.

I have two of these locks. Both work excellently! Simple but effective.

I have been using these locks for years. Needed to pick up a few extra for my girlfriends luggage.

Reasonable. But remember, this is a TSA lock. This means it can easily be hacked. There is a master key available even on eBay that will open this lock. Don’t use it at the gym or anything like that.

The only thing it is really useful for is to keep the clasp from opening by accident.

I use this lock for my gym gear. You can set your own combination. I like the cable vs the heavy metal shackle. The dials for setting the combination are on the small side and difficult to manipulate.

It is TSA approved for those who want it for travel.

You may wonder why I gave it one star? Security. It is simply not able to resist a simple brut force attack. I won’t put any more details here to avoid trouble for those who already have them fitted but I easily removed the safe from the wall with basic tools and very little noise.

This rendered the body of the safe broken and keys could be accessed easily. The combination mechanism itself did seem to be secure and was not subject to ‘feeling’ the numbers line up. I also removed another key safe from the opposite wall, that was a police preferred model which was very difficult to remove even with it open and with access to the fixings.

Buy a better safe if you value security. Look for a Police Preferred model online.

Great locks for their intended use. Easy to use. I bought a few sets for use on luggage and bags while traveling around France using public transportation. Nothing was lost on the trip, despite hauling these around metros, TGVs, planes, and hotel baggage areas.

They are easy to set the combo and unlock in use. I only wanted them to add an extra layer of protection against thieves looking for immediate opportunity like you encounter on public transportation systems.

For that purpose they were perfect. I think these types of locks have been shown to be useless against thieves who have more isolated access to bags, like those criminals and thugs who manage to get employed by the TSA.

Youtube has plenty of videos that demonstrate the point of where these fail. That, however, wasn’t my intended purpose. For that purpose, I relied on zip ties and fixed objects like handles to secure the zippers.

Then it would just show that someone entered the bag, but not prevent it.

I bought two of these for a Mexico trip, not expecting much – it’s just a luggage lock, can’t get real fancy with that. After using this for a trip, I find that I have grown very fond of these lock. 1.

Hey are pleasantly easy to set up. Turn the knob, then turn again, set your code, and then turn back. Done. 2. They are sturdy feeling and feels solid. I haven’t tried breaking one but you can tell these are well made.

Bought 2 – Looked at several other brand names of this style TSA lock and decided to focus on MASTER – quality and great price from Home Essentials Direct compared to other vendors offering the same MASTER lock, as well as other non-name-brand similiar style locks.

Very easy to change the combination, and I like the combination “window” on the side. Great luggage/backpack locks. Of course if you are looking for a non-TSA lock offering more security, of course you should go to locks with a 1/4″ dia shackle — be prepared to pay more $$ for a quality lock of that type.

Luggage locks. Great for keeping the honest thief at bay. As a long time motorcycle riders and riding long extended vacations on the bikes these locks keep our bags locked and possessions safe while we are away from the bikes for a short periods, lunch-supper-breakfast-site seeing on foot while traveling.

Well worth the money. We also use them while traveling by plane and train. These will replace 4 similar combo locks with small cables shackles. I easily cut through the cable shackle with a heavy duty wire cutter when it would not open.

You can not do that with these steel shackles. I just have to remember the combination, haha.

Why didn’t I get these sooner? One time my luggage went around the world for 2 weeks. I didn’t have a lock, so my $10 necklace was gone when I finally got it back. I never dreamt anyone would want my $10 necklace, but you never know what thieves will want.

Now, I put the locks on. TSA can easily open the lock with a special tool they have, and everyone else can just forget about it. The combination is easy to set. The locks are weighty for their size. If you’ve never used luggage locks, the lock loop fits into a channel specially created for luggage locks on all of the luggage I’ve seen: the two zipper pulls dovetail together like holding hands to form a tube that the lock loop goes into.

It’s a great deterrent. Thieves will pass up locked luggage.

These are sturdy, easily reprogrammed, and reasonably-priced. I’d purchased some cheaper ones earlier – from a different manufacturer – and they were a dead loss; absolute junk – couldn’t reprogram the combination code! Threw ’em into the garbage.

But these puppies have delivered all that they promise. I have three computer cases, and a couple of suitcases, so I’ll have to buy more. Also nice to know that TSA now has keys specially designed to open luggage locks.

(I had a lock cut with a bolt cutter once by TSA, years ago. TSA threw the ruined lock into my suitcase after seeing that I wasn’t sneaking contraband onto an airplane. ) If you need anything similar to this, I heartily endorse these locks.

Then works fine. It would have been better if the directions were in the package but it seems sturdy enough for what I want it for. There is no video specific to the Bunker Hill lock but the others seem to be similar.

As the title says, for it’s class it’s a good lock. Its not something you would use on a gate but it’s great for luggage as designed. It is tsa approved, and has an indicator for when/if tsa uses their master key for bag inspection.

Easy to change the combination with no tools that can get lost, and the materials used seem quality. Operation is smooth and it’s easy to read.

These are good well made travel locks. You can change the combination. It also has a feature that alerts you if you bag was open by TSA Agents. Great little lock.

This is a joke. My granddaughter has utensils in her play kitchen with more weight than this set. I was totally shocked to receive such a cheap, useless set of flatware. Don’t waste your money

I wanted a lock for my new suitcases with a key instead of a keyless entry. I’m afraid there are just two many codes and passwords in today’s world. Give me a key to put on my keychain! And I am a happy camper.

i looked at all the locks that would fit my computer and small suitcase! only this one fit my exacting needs. and it was inexpensive…;-)

I bought ten of these locks to use in my bags to return to Brazil. The TSA opened one of the bags and the two padlocks that were in it stopped working. The construction of them is fragile and appears not much security.

In short, it’s beautiful, has secret 4-digit (most have 3) and it works. But defenitivamente is not the best option.

I’ve used these on two flights now and each flight broke one. I had my hard case returned to me without the padlocks. When I opened the case, I noticed TSA had just put them inside because it had broke from moving around by baggage claim.

I will be looking for a more flexible option to handle the pressure.

So far I haven’t had any problems with them. They work fine and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. The fact that the combinations can be changed is good so that one can change the combinations periodically.

Ordered this lock to prevent unwanted entry into my camera back-pack. The sturdy construction of the lock, the extended length of the cable + keyless entry (combination lock), are the major components that appealed to me.

#sweepstakes – I bought two of these. One for my son and me. My 9-year-old was able to set his own combination and uses it without any problems. The lock is durable, small, affordable, and works great with our Eaglecreek Migrate Duffle bags.

The lock is a 3 digit combination type. No keys were provided like shown in the photo. Cable seems solid. Should be good for travel.

I just got these and haven’t used them long term yet. Upon opening the packing the locks seems well made. The lock itself is heavy and made of metal and seems to have a good internal build. The instructions are ok but could be better on explaining how to re-program the locks to a code other than 0-0-0.

I think they’ll last well. My only concern is that when the lock is actually locked it doesn’t seem to clamp down very far and engage the mechanism. It also has some play and seems a tad loose. It doesn’t come unlocked with some tugging.

They are designed to keep out the honest people of course.

Easy to set the new combination. Seems like it is well made as it feels pretty heavy. Like the look and ease of the turn style combination. I am tired of losing keys for my luggage locks, so I am looking forward to using this.

We bought these locks to use with a PacSafe backpack for our travels. Simple to use and to change the combination. These locks seem very hefty for their size.

This lock is different than most, because the shackle is operated by a push button on the side. To open or close the lock, the correct combination must first be dialed in and then the push button must be pressed and held down to keep the shackle open.

An advantage is that the correct combination can be dialed in and left so that it is only necessary to push the button to open the shackle. With an ordinary lock, leaving the correct combination set would leave the shackle wide open, probably resulting in the lock falling off.

However, like several other reviewers, I also lost my lock to the TSA, possibly because they used their master key and didn’t know to take the extra step of then pushing the button. Tumi may want to consider labeling the button with “push” or “push to open”.

Otherwise, the lock seems to be of quality construction, and is slightly less bulky than many other TSA locks. I came to this site to order a replacement, but if it is again lost by the TSA, I’ll likely switch back to a more traditional lock.

Great idea but instructions are poorly written which meant combination couldn’t be set

We started purchasing Tumi products later in life, when price was no longer quite the issue as when we were much younger. I am glad to be able to enjoy them now.

Little, lightweight, super easy to use. Great for all applications. I lock my tent and gear up when away from campsites. This little lock now goes with me on each trip!

Let’s face it. You can’t keep someone out of our backpack, even with the best lock. But I bought this more as a subtle deterrent where I might be sharing an airplane overhead bin. In fact, I bought two of them just to make it a little less obvious which backpack section I might be carrying valuables in.

Piece of garbage locks. Put on carry-on in Europe excursion. Needed to get into bag and lock would not open. I only use one code and neither of the 2 locks would open. It looks like they were stuck half way between open and locked.

A few choice words were said after I had to break into my backpack.

I have had MANY locks for my luggage, as I used to travel often on business. My biggest pet peeve was a lock that was impossible to open. Locks are supposed to keep other people out, not the one with the combo! I never had an issue with this lock.
