We recently put in an in-ground pool, and as you can imagine, our entire yard was in complete disarray after the pool was completed. Our once beautiful lawn had been ripped apart by heavy machinery, leaving us with a mud pit instead of grass.

Bought to fill in bare spots that have been trying to fill in for several years. The one thing that is needed is proper amount of water. I always in the past had the best success when seeding during rainy periods, the past 2 years have seeding during winter when it snowed.

Spring most areas filled in, still working on a bare spot that doesn’t get much sun, but it has filled in more each year. Like the heat tolerant, even if you plant grass and it isn’t heat tolerant when the summer heat comes up will die.

Another thing I apply seasonal weed and feed and mulch, never bag.

I used this seed to repair a clients lawn after it had been burned with fertilizer due to a faulty spreader that resulted in an over application of an already strong product. Unfortunately, they were hosting their son’s wedding reception in just six weeks so we had to work fast.

Scotts products to the rescue! First thing I did was fertilize what was left of the lawn with Scotts Turf Builder. I also gave the lawn an application of 2% chelated iron to bring up the color of the existing lawn.

I put down the heat tolerant blue grass seed, heavy, over Scotts Lawn soil and raked it in. The seed was up in seven days and did continue to mow the existing lawn during this time with a reel mower so as not to damage the new grass coming in.

I do caution others who read this, against doing the same, for this reason. My reel mower is extremely sharp and well maintained by a professional. My mower could split hairs and that’s how I get away with mowing delicate newly sprouted grass without pulling it up from the roots.

It didn’t take long for the new grass to reach two inches in length and I applied the Scotts Starter Food as soon as it was tall enough. By the third week we were mowing the lawn every day with the reel mower, alternating directions each day.

I realize this sounds excessive to some people, but this is the best way to get a lawn to fill in. If it can’t grow up, it only has one other option. I also gave it another application two weeks later and gave it another application of 2% chelated iron for color.

At this point we had one week to go and the lawn was looking really good and the heavy mowing schedule had matured the grass so that it could tolerate the intense foot traffic it was about to receive.

Forty-eight hours prior to the event, I sprayed the entire lawn with liquid iron to bring the color of the lawn up to an intense deep forest green. To keep this clients lawn strong and green throughout the year I use Scotts TurfBuilder plus weed and feed, Scotts Turfbuilder Winterguard, Scotts Lawn Fungus Control, and Scotts GrubEx.

Many of these are used as a preventative measure because it’s much easier to prevent a disease or a pest in lawns than to fix a massive problem such as the one described above. Lesson learned and client no longer fertilizes their own lawn.

The worst grass seed! Followed the instructions to the T. Tilled soil, remove all debris, 3 inches new top soil, spread the seed as instructed. 3 weeks later no grass. Did additional research then oversees lawn.

5 weeks later I am still waiting on a lawn, still waiting on the moment to meow. I have blochie spots weed mixed in with a few strand of grass. Worst grass (DUMP) seed!.

I usually try to overseed our yard each fall. Since we have a fairly good size yard, I try to get a reasonably priced grass seed. For the past several years I have been using seed from TSC. I have used the DLF KY-31 Tall Fescue several times now and have been pleased with the results.

The most important things to me are the germination rate, the germination time, and the durability. I am very pleased with the results in these three areas. Even though Middle TN tends to get quite hot and often dry in the summer, the DLF KY-31 tends to do quite well, even though fescue is a cool season grass.

This brand my die back a little during the hottest times, it tends to come back nicely when it starts to cool off and the autumn rain begins to fall. I am well pleased.

I have bought quite a bit of this grass seed over the years, typically 2 bags per year(100lbs total), and it seems every year i get less satisfactory results. This past spring i overseeded and planted some new areas only to have patches of this grass die after a couple weeks.

I came up great but went downhill from there. I tried more water and less water in hopes to figure out what was happening but it didnt help. I just overseeded the current lawn and planted a new patch with fresh loam and while it came up great, after a couple weeks large, brown patches of dead grass started appearing.

This might be my last year buying seed from TSC since i’d rather spend twice as much and end up with green grass instead of brown patches of dead grass.

Bought this seed in spring of 2019. Did not apply the seed to my lawn until late September early October here in the upstate of South Carolina Greenville. I bought a dethatcher for my riding mower. Dethatche the lawn then applied seed.

I watered the lawn every day with my irrigation system at 4am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, and 7pm. I set the sprinkler system to only water my lawn for 5 minutes at each time programmed, except for the 3pm time.

It was set to water for 10 minute duration at 3pm. I stopped that watering schedule by late October and then let mother nature take over at that point. I applied Scott’s starter for new seed when I seeded the lawn and did a follow up feeding early November.

Within 8 days I had growth. And by the middle of October I had to cut the lawn. Then cut the lawn again in November. I also made sure I kept the leaves off the lawn all winter long. On March 10th 2020 I put down Scott’s triple action fertilizer with crab grass preventer.

Reactivated my irrigation system on March 20th and it now waters the lawn on Saturday Tuesday and Thursday at 4am for 15 minutes and again at 5pm for 15 minutes. And I have to say my yard looks AWESOME! Very good seed.

I needed to fill in a bare area in my back yard where I had a tree removed and in late April, I started the re-seeding process in the hope of having it all filled in with a nice layer of grass by the summer.

I did all the right things – started with an ample layer of fresh topsoil followed by a generous, well-mixed-in seed application, daily watering etc. , and. Nothing! (Well, almost. ). It’s been over six weeks now, and all I am seeing is random tufts of grass here and there, and the area is still largely bare.

In the meantime, the rest of my flower beds are in full bloom, all the trees have their leaves, and the rest of my lawn looks healthy and lush. Everything sprouted on schedule and is doing fine except for that sorry patch of what is still a largely bare area.

Once the stores re-open, one of the first things I will do is to bring what remains of that bag of grass seed back to Home Depot and ask for a full refund. I have successfully re-seeded other areas of my lawn in the past with other brands, but I have never had as bad an experience as with this particular batch of Scotts grass seed.

Used two bags (20kg) to over-seed top dressed areas of my lawn on the day the product was purchased from Home Depot. Applied two weeks ago. Raked into top dressing soil that was applied to lawn before hand, watered by hand twice daily to keep soil damp and the ambient temperatures were within the range specified by the manufacturer.

Zero germination. I mean zero! I have spent the summers of my youth working at a chain of golf courses and for a lawn care franchise. I have top dressed and over-seeded turf grass hundreds, if not thousands of times.

I am confidant that the issue is a bad batch of seed (other resent reviews seem to concur). Time and money lost with this one.

Planted this seed in September in Atlanta and went to great length to assure success, and in fact got great germination. It looked like I might have grass in deep shade finally. However, as time passed it got thinner and thinner.

After two months only have about 40% coverage remaining and doesn’t seem to be growing. Would like to know what seed varieties are in the mix as there is no listing on the package.

I have used Hancock for now 4 years. I had terrific results 3 years in a row using their grass seed. This is my first negative experience. I bought 50 pounds of the Titan seed, prepared my yard, raked it, seeded and watered for 4 weeks in warm weather.

I had zero (0) germination. I contacted Hancock, spoke with a representative answered their questionnaire and submitted pictures. The only advice they said was to rake my seed into the ground. I am like really?? I spent two days preparing the yard, raking the ground, spreading 7 yards of top soil onto bare spots and watering every day we did not have rain.

It did not work. Hancock offered no help whatsoever so therefore I will no longer be a customer of Hancock’s which is very disappointing. I bought Rebel Elite at Home Depot and already have seed coming up.

I guess companies change and not always for the best. Disappointed!.

I purchased Kentucky Blue Grass seeds from this company, customer service was gd but the outcome of the grass seeds were absolutely a nightmare. Every possible negative issue arose. The seeds had only germinated for approximately 45-50 days and began to display powdery mildew.

I took reactive steps to no avail and then began to experience issues with brown spot disease with the same seed. I recognize the issue was the grass seed I purchased from Hancock because the KBG I purchased from another company was not affected by either powdery wildew or brown patch disease.

I contacted the company for help with pictures and they offered no substantial help but thank me for purchasing their seeds. I will never purchase again from this company. I spent a lot of which sadly will be going down the drain.

I live just north of Atlanta, GA. Planted this seed last year and it was beautiful. Germination rate was great. This year disappointed. I had some leftover seed from last year that I put in a not so important area.

It came up great. About a week later received new bag to reseed more important area. This new batch just does not want to sprout like last year’s. I have an irrigation system so watering control is pretty good.

Still too much seed not sprouting. Put down more in the hope of filling what did not take first time. Loved the nice color got last year. Hoping to get enough seed to sprout before weather gets to cool.

I’ve been buying this for several years now. It’s the only seed I will buy. It makes a beautiful dark green, thick carpet for lawn. I fertilized and put pre-emergent down. Then, just I make sure it gets enough water and mow regularly.

Beautiful grass! No **** seeds and germinates very well for complete coverage.

Planted in early April. Took awhile to germinate but i’ll attribute that to cold temps. Starting to really grow in nicely now that it’s mid May. Would buy again. came in a nice recyclable package.

Seedling sprouted and grew great during the chilly months. As soon as it hit 80-90 degrees, folded like a cheap suit. Watered like crazy

I like the seed, the bags reads 8 to 21 for germination. That’s true, I planted my yard with seed half the grass seed did not grow. Was thinking this must be bad seed. But being a farmer I had the agronomist do a soil test.

Found out my top soil I spent good money on was why off. I fixed the problem with some lime. But was told by agronomist that spring and fall was the best time to plant grass its cool and wet. I new that but I needed grass in July.

So I planted extra heavy the ground was blue with seed. Than my wife said ” online it said to cover or work in seed”. Lol so I had to go out and rack all the seed into the soul. Than last I was told to rack it all in evenly by my 85 year old father.

So you get even emergence. Than I watered lightly every day for almost 21 days. Wish I wouldn’t have put so much grass seed down. I’m mowing 2x a week now but it looks nice. My only complaint is why cant I just throw seed on the grown and have it grow.

Simple live right. Lol.

This is a wonder product. I couldn’t believe in three weeks the grass plug all the common areas and walkways in my yard. I get compliments from everyone. Neighbors ask me did I use True Green. I told them about the product in a HOA meeting.

I purchased four 3lbs. already. I need to order another 2 bags for my back yard. On a budget at the moment. I highly recommend this product without question!.

I have been trying to grow grass in a small area in my front yard. This was the 4th seed I had to try as none of the others grew grass. I have to say within 3 days I had new grass coming up and now its full and beautiful! FINALLY!!!.

I replaced my bermuda grass lawn with the Creeping Red Fescue and it turned out even better than I imagined! The region I live in is very hot so I wasn’t sure how the seed would take, but I followed the instructions and the grass grew perfectly.

I now have a beautiful, lucious green lawn that is soft as well as sturdy. Thanks to the people at American Meadows for the great info and tips! Couldn’t have done it without you.

Mostly I use this seed to fill in bare spots around my property. As long as it does not dry out (especially after sprouting) a high percentage of the seed grows. I never see such high percentage with local store bought seed.

Sometimes the local seed does not put up a single blade of grass. So, if you want a good take buy your seed here and keep watering it.

The front of the house has fine blades grass that looks pretty good I wanted the same look in my backyard which looked terrible until I found this product that it is amazing, my soil is 100% clay hard like rock but this grass is growing fast I saw results in just a week, I used 15 Lbs.

for 2500 sqft. in less than a month I was mowing my backyard very happy with the results.

After researching various reviews for this particular product (Expert Gardener Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue). It appears to be a really good product. I however, was not able to even use or honestly review this product simply due to the climate and other factors at the time of receiving this product.

Long story, my wife and I have some other landscaping issues with our soil not having enough nutrients in and around our property. With that said, I honestly feel this product deserves its already four star seemingly reputable online reviews from very well-known companies.

So, I too, will give it four stars although I really could not test this product unfortunately. After looking though hundreds of photos, I do not have a picture of this product. Although this is the very first time for me personally to review a product without having a picture.

Its grass seed, I feel you (the consumer) can make the right buying decision without having a picture available. Some highlights:  Reputable four-star online reviews  Google this (Expert Gardner Company) and see for yourself Walmart by the way, in my opinion, is much better than that other place that charges a membership fee, just to ship within 2 days (all the while their priming only revenue).

Walmart ships within 2 days, and with no membership charges! I order online from Walmart all the time, so much nicer than standing in lines and loading-up carts.

This grass seed worked great! I used a tiller on the yard to prep. Got up all the old grass and weeds, then added a layer of topsoil. Added fertilizer and a bag of the tall fescue seeds. Then did a layer of straw to protect the seeds.

Came up great and looks great!!! Five stars. This was in a area without full sun. Lots of very tall trees along the side of the yard.

I purchased two bags of these grass seeds and followed instructions to the letter, who would not consider the cost (overpriced and over-rated). Sent pictures to show the results which were awful. I requested a guaranteed refund.

The seller refused to issue a refund (asked that I return the product, knowing that I planted the grass seed. Who does that? Perhaps the grass seed was outdated. One thing is certain, the seed did not perform as stated.
