20 Best Tuna In Oil (2022 Updated)

This tuna was excellent. I had seen it used in a recipe by a professional chef and I looked for it all over the place and could not find it anywhere. I checked Italian grocers and Amazon, I checked Walmart’s website and found it but it wasn’t available so they canceled the order.

Then the other day I saw it again on Walmart. Com when I was looking for some other items and I didn’t believe it was actually available but I placed the order and to my great surprise, it was fulfilled.

I was so delighted when the package arrived a couple of days later. Well it was well worth the wait, the tuna is delectable. Soaked in that jalapeño infused oil gives it such a good flavor and the fish is high quality, this is not your grandma’s canned tuna.

I made it into a Tuna melt similar to the recipe I had seen except for the thick sliced artisan bread – I used what I had on hand – wheat bread toasted, I added very little seasoning to the tuna, just a dab of mayo, some dried thyme and black pepper, I didn’t even add salt.

After toasting the bread I added the tuna and grilled a few slices of haloumi cheese and voila! my version of the gourmet tuna melt with this wonderful Italian tuna. I may never have canned tuna again! Try it, you’ll love it.

I’ve tried all the main brands but I always go back to this. This is what my Italian raised me on. My nana would never eat or buy any other tuna. Ima cheapie so I buy whatever – but flavor wise this truly is the best and I always enjoy a can or two.

Omg my son loves it as well. his grandfather put it in his head this is the BEST one so now he will gag he eats any others – I’m still mad at my dad for telling him there’s a difference. I even blind tasted him though so I can’t be mad.

I just don’t get how you love it all and then one sec later you only want the one 🤦‍♀️ I was never a picky eater. plus im frugal (since a kid) Love to make tuna salad sandwiches or just eat it drained from the can.

I only get the olive oil one. I do like to mix it with mayo – that’s what Im about to do now with some steamed cheesy Carrots cauliflower and broccoli lol so those will be my next reviews. Im legit surprised this doesn’t have very many reviews at all! Complete shocker! Also I usually only buy this on sale and get a few cans to stock up.

(Maybe 2 to 6 cans).

Too salty. All I tasted was salt with a fishy taste. I bought it because of the olive oil. I cannot believe they have taken off 2ozs and no one says anything. Tuna was always 7 ozs. Not even enough for one sandwich whereas before I could make 2 out of one can of tuna.

They even shrunk the can size to adapt. Marketing is fooling us daily.

I’ve bought Bumble Bee Tuna over the years, and my recent order for it was just as expected, and actually arrived sooner than I thought! I bought 60 cans to stock up, so delivery sure helped as the weight adds up.

I will agree with other reviewers that it is NOT CHUNKY, but I already knew that, and expected the finely flaked tuna I received. It is exactly what I wanted, and like, as if it was chunky, I would then have to waste my time smashing it a bit to get it in the right shape for my tuna sandwiches.

I put a can in the freezer for about 30 minutes before using, so it is nice and chilled as I like my sandwiches COOL! I mix in mayo and celery, and a little salt, and I’m done. I don’t drain the oil, it has a lot of the tuna nutrients bound to it, and the taste is GOOD for me, and the oil is not bad for my health, so I am GLAD to have it.

I too am finding it harder to find TUNA IN OIL, as everyone is swinging on the packed in water craze, and that has no flavor! Old fashioned Bumble Bee Tuna IN OIL is what I like, and am very happy with my order!.

This is shredded, not chunk. Pink color makes me wonder what it really is. Can says 5oz, 4oz dry. I drained, light squeezed and then weighed the content with the can, with the lid removed, and it came in at 3.

9 oz. The empty can weighed 0. 8 oz. I don’t think the published product weight should include the weight of the packaging. So marginal shredded tuna and 3. 1 oz of actual tuna in a can labeled 5 oz, 4 oz dry.

(Do you really read the label well enough to notice they are giving you 2 weights?).

This tuna is NOT chunk! It is nothing but mushy minute shredded tuna. I opened the can & I always just use my fingers to push the lid to drain. When I did, the tuna just mushed out! I couldn’t believe it! I removed the lid & saw it was nothing but mushy tuna! Not any chunks at all.

I was making a tuna noodle casserole that called for 3 cans of 5oz. tuna, I ended up using 6 cans, just to make it have enough tuna. To much tuna ended up in my sink to only use 3 cans. I am extremely disappointed with this product.

So. buyer beware! Spend a couple more dollars & get the chunky albacore tuna! I wouldn’t even try to use this to make tuna salad. Way too liquid like! I hardly never ever leave reviews, but this upset me so much that I had to say something.

I’ll never purchase this again! I would not reccomend anyone to buy it. Horrible, just horrible!.

It was good! I have never purchased tuna packed in oil before, I was surprised that the taste was nice and mild. Much less “fishiness” than normal tuna packed in water. I would definitely get it again.

Love this tuna. I hate fish, the smell makes me gag and tuna is the only fish I’ve ever eaten. Sadly American tuna has become unrecognizable and smells awfully fishy the past 20 years. So even though this brand is quite pricey it is worth it, Very clean and not too salty, like alot of other foreign brands in olive oil.

And these small cans are perfect for one, so you can have a fresh can every time you want to enjoy tuna. :D.

We love tuna but in recent years our USA brands are terrible — look like everything is thrown in the can. I bought some rio from this site and my husband & I fell in love w the appearance and flavor.

It doesnt even need to be mixed w much mayo. Plain on a cup of lettuce w a tomato slice & squirt of oil is ultimate delisiouso.

We have always used il Tonno Rio mare in Italy. Now that we have found it inAmerica we are glad to be able to get it. Thank you Yummy

Good quality solid pack. No little tiny pieces that look like cat food.

This is the best canned tuna I have tried and I am very picky about which ones I will eat. This is light, chunk style tuna that doesn’t have the cat food taste and texture of cheaper cans of tuna. The flavor of this is great and isn’t overly fishy.

I always have this in my pantry and it always gets eaten.

So delicious and fresh tasting! The best tuna I ever had…not fishy at all. I wish I could fine the Rio tuna with garlic that I found in Italy. It is even better.

I’m very happy with the product itself, it’s nice to be able to find canned tuna that doesn’t have extra stuff added to it since I have to be careful about what I eat and it tastes great. What I’m not happy about is Walmart giving me a horribly dented can that i ended up throwing away because the contents looked and smelled weird compared to how they normally are.

Not happy to have to throw away nearly $4 and I’m not driving all the way back to the store (spending more than that in gas), to return the opened product, because Walmart will not give you a refund unless you bring it back to the store.

Last refund i got, i literally had to bring in a soppy box full of glass shards and broth, because a jar blew up in shipping and they wouldn’t process the refund unless I brought the package into a store.

A very stupid policy especially with a company that’s really pushing shipping products to your home.

My favourite butty is tuna mayo and I purchased this tuna due to its sustainability and the reviews were good. Firstly, do what I did and put your mayo back in the fridge – the quality and taste of the tuna deserves far more than a spoonful of mayo.

It might be seen as pricier than others but you get what you pay for. The tuna is light and succulent and is just the best tinned / jarred tuna I’ve tasted. The olive oil tastes good too, as you’d expect from Spain.

As has been said previously, have this with a light bean salad for a really lovely – and healthy – lunchtime treat. I will not be buying another brand from now on.

This is literally the best tasting tuna-in-a-can I’ve ever had. Just buy one can, you owe it to yourself. Its like fancy chocolates! The fish looks like fish, not some mashed mess. The texture is buttery, light and flaky all at once.

You can eat it straight from the can. The olive oil is similarly light, and it just enhances the quality of the tuna. TREAT yourself!.

OK I will admit it. I am the ultimate canned tuna snob. It’s embarrassing that I am so picky about tuna. I used to say that there was nothing like the white tuna from Costco. Being a long time fan of market Hall foods, I love to check in with Asha and see what she loves.

she recommended the tuna from Ortiz, and with great hesitation I’ve ventured out and tried just one can. I was so annoyed at myself for not ordering 12 after I tasted this tuna. I’ve never tasted anything like it.

And now I actually find myself panicking a little when I don’t have an extra can on my shelf. I cannot recommend it enough. It is absolutely delicious. Especially if you live alone and you just want to come home and open a can of tuna and have some crackers with it.

I leave you with one bit of advice. Do not order just one can and remember that I told you so.

Bumble Bee Solid White Tuna has always been the highest quality available. Since the pandemic began, so many retailers have tripled and quadrupled the normal price of this product, or more, making it no longer an affordable option.

For those of us with health issues and dietary restrictions, such as diabetes, allergies, etc, canned tuna was always one product we could eat with confidence and convenience. It is a product I depend on.

Of all the merchants that sell Bumble Bee Tuna, CVS is one of only two I have found that still regularly stock the product in good quantity, and that haven’t jumped on the price-gouging bandwagon. Yes, CVS has raised the cost since the pandemic began, which is to be expected since everything including fuel, costs more now.

However, their increase has been minimal and reasonable. When you factor in the great sales they run on this product regularly, they are truly selling with the customer in mind and not just trying to maximize their profits at an unreasonable cost to the consumer.

I hugely appreciate that CVS still offers this product, which is an essential for me, at a very reasonable cost, and at a price not much higher than prior to the pandemic. Their pricing on this product alone us what keeps me as a loyal CVS customer.

Bumble Bee Chunk White Albacore tuna is making many delicious and soft tuna sandwiches that are very easy to fix and eat with a sore mouth. It’s a very dense can of tuna that makes up with Mayo and chopped dehydrate onions (in the spice aisle) to a delicious and nutritious quick meal with only 130 calories, only 1 gram of fat and 29 grams of protein per can.

There is only tuna water veggie broth and salt in each can and it’s delicious!! I make up a few cans at once and then it’s only a minute to put a scoop of tuna salad on a burger bun and voila! A very easy to eat and fulfilling sandwich.

It’s a life saver, and I’ll be able to eat it after the 8 extractions too. I highly recommend! Very cost effective and nutritious easy to make sandwich!! I love it!! At only $1. 62 for so much tuna in a can it’s very economical too!.

LOVE the BumbleBee Prime White Albacore Tuna LOW SODIUM in Water. It is the closest I can get in flavor and texture to the small independent brands here in Oregon. Nice solid chunks of tuna, clean/fresh flavor.

I just wish someone would come up with a way to squeeze out the water in these cans without having to expend so much effort myself. I’ve tried both the “Low Sodium in Water” and the “in Water” and the taste is fresher in the Low Sodium PLUS it’s a lot lower in sodium than the other product.

Win-Win. What would I improve? Have this product available in the larger can size.

I had tried at least ten different brands of tuna but this is truly the best. Why? It is because it tastes nothing like tuna, not dry or coarse like most canned tuna and it is tuna from Atlantic, not from Pacific.

I tried this one expensive tuna from USA, supposedly good but it was terrible. You would be better off buying the 5. 6 oz can, my wife tried to share a 2. 8 oz can but it is really not enough for two people.

Once you start eating this tuna, you simply cannot stop. I may try to order a can of the underbelly tuna made by them and see if it is really better than this and worth the money. Yummy Bazaar does have the best price on this tuna right now.

Just right size to make spaghetti con tonno for a single person

This is the first canned tuna I actually liked. I was pleasantly surprised and it paired so well with the ramen noodles i cooked. Would definitely buy again

I love tuna. I can store it for months and months if I have to in the pantry. It’s fairly inexpensive and it’s very versatile. Chicken of the sea has great flavor. If you’re worried about lead then go on find something else but who knows what’s in the chicken or the beef or the pork that we eat also.

This is good product at a good price. Get a couple stacks and put them in your pantry now.

This tuna tastes good and is a convenient size for when I want to eat tuna. This isn’t my favorite brand because I prefer tuna without vegetable broth. It’s a pretty cheap price which is good. I can see myself buying this again in the future at the store.

Chicken of the Sea WAS my favorite tuna. It used to have big chunks of tuna and made the best tuna salad. Now, there might be a couple small chunks, the rest is mush. little bits and shreds of fish, a lot of broth.

very much reminiscent of a premium cat food. The last time I made it, I tried to drain the can and tuna mush just squeezed up around the lid, so I tried a sieve. I pressed it into the sieve, got a lot of liquid out as well as mush squeezing theough the fine mesh.

I added far less mayo than usual and a couple hard boiled eggs to help with texture but it was still a mushy, wet mess. There’s no longer any bite to this tuna, it’s like when you’d chew up a piece of notebook paper to make a spitball, just awful.

But my cats love it!.

Best canned tuna I’ve ever had, including the jarred ones (Tonnino, Wild Planet). This tuna was very soft and moist, didn’t make my mouth feel like full of grease, and since it’s not unsalted, tastes great straight out of can without any sauce or seasoning.

I loved it on Great Value unsalted saltine crackers. This is definitely pricy tuna but so worth it and definitely a great treat for tuna lovers. I shared some with friends that normally aren’t canned tuna fans, but they agreed this changed their minds about canned tuna, especially since it’s actually solid/fillet looking compared to the watery mushy cheap stuff.

One friend actually got hooked she’s buying Callipo ever since.

Best tasting tuna I ever had. The taste is nothing like bumble bee or starkist and the tuna color is spot on. There are no black specks in it or Sandy grit. Worth every penny. Will always buy this and never go back to the tuna from here.

Very different from tuna available locally

Totally skipping the quality of the tuna and going right to the weight of the product I found that there was only 3. 594 oz of tuna in a can, and not 4. 0 ozs. as labeled. The 3. 94 ozs. includes some water as I was unable with this experiment to extract all the water.

Just as well though because the Tuna Fish has some water in the fish meat and ist is a fair representation. What prompted this little quest was that I found and older can of Starkist tuna (not expired) and when I opened the can there was obviously more tuna in the older can then the current purchase at Sam’s Club.

So, I started weight out the products. Total weight of the Can with water and tuna was 6. 148 ozs. Total weight of the partially squeezed tuna was 3. 594 ozs. leaving a total water and tin weight of 2.

554 ozs. The important thing to remember is that YOU ARE NOT GETTING 4. ozs. of tuna as labeled. I would not recommend this product.

My Humana insurance pays through my flex card this annual fee for food. I’m very sorry but I cannot afford a tip. I’m 65 years old on a very fixed low income I’m scrapping for food. I can pick my own grocery up and prefer to do that because my neighbor the crackhead downstairs that Eric was talking to had plans to steal what Eric left.

I heard the two of them talking and that’s the only way I knew that my grocery was set on my steps. Eric didn’t knock on the door to let me know that he put my food on my steps with my neighbor the crackhead waiting for him to leave so he can steal it.

I hope that you all can call me when Eric is on the way to drop off the groceries so I can hover over the front door and my neighbor won’t beat me to my packages. I prefer picking my items up but if this is the way this free food program works I just have to go along with it.

So I always strayed away from chunk light tuna’s. One time I bought one and the way it looked and smelled resembled cat food. The store’s have been out of all kinds of things. So I decided even if I didn’t eat it I would still have something in the house for the kids should we need it.

I decided I was going to make Mac and Cheese and I always put canned tuna or salmon in it. Boosts the protein and makes it a little healthier and more filling. I opened the can and I was surprised. It was actually chunky it didn’t look like bits soaking in a pile of smoggy water.

It looked good, it smelled good and all the kids loved it. I actually plan to buy it again. Since I know chunk light is better than regular albacore.

Taste good. I believe in the product & have researched all it claims to be. It’s a bit pricy but you are paying for a line caught tuna from the Pacific Northwest waters. Healthy & delicious in salads , on sandwiches & right out of the can.
