20 Best Tundra Front Bumper (2022 Updated)

I’ve done a lot of upgrades to my wife’s JL lately, from a lift, front/rear bumpers, side steps, hood, etc. , and this was one of the most time consuming. First off, the directions are OK, but are heavily lacking.

You’ll be better off to watch the video on Extreme Terrain, although they don’t cover the sensors for those of us that have plastic bumpers. I’ll get to that in a minute. Fit and finish, bumper is fantastic.

Fit pretty much perfectly and the removable step panels on the back are great. I color coded them to the Jeep. First step once you get the plastic bumper off, are the sensors. This took some time to understand, as it’s really not explained anywhere.

When you have the plastic bumper, at least for the 2022 models, the 4 rear sensor housings are ‘melted’ into the inside of the bumper. I took mine off with a pry tool, as I thought I’d epoxy them back into the new metal bumper, but virtually destroyed them doing so.

And Jeep does not allocate a replacement order number. So what I did was order the outside sensor housings and inside locking pieces for those with metal bumpers from Jeep for ’18-’22 Jeeps and they worked out great.

Remember to get both the inside locking piece and the outside housing piece and that there different skus for EACH piece. Don’t forget to pull the harness out of the plastic bumper as well. You pretty much have to destroy it to get it all out, so resale is not much of an option for the old bumper.

Easy with the sensors as they are expensive. All 4 sensors are the same, its just the outer and inner housings that you have to remember where they go, as they all point in somewhat different directions.

Installing the bumper is pretty simple. 4 bolts from the front and 2 on each side. Most of the brackets/plastic shielding that you took off for the stock bumper won’t go back on. Directions and video state to tighten down the middle 4 bolts first then move on to the sides.

Make sure that you at least get the threading started on both side bolts before completely tightening the middle 4 bolts, as the sides holes may not completely align if you tighten the middle first. I did have to use a cut off wheel to cut one of the flanges off of the bumper on the passenger side underneath, as it was hitting the frame and keeping me from being able to lift the bumper up high enough for hold alignment.

Not sure if it was bent or what but a 30 second fix. Remember that this bumper is HEAVY, so you’ll need some help to install the bumper and pull up on it so that you can easily thread the bolts. Nice thing is that the bumper will sit on the 4 middle bolts without having to tighten down once you get them threaded a little bit through the nut plates.

Regarding the license plate holder, what was SB thinking when they put it in the middle of the tire?? Just plain ugly and wife wasn’t having it for her mall crawler. So I ordered the LOD license plate relocation kit (JLP1800).

Very nice looking kit. Housing almost looks stock. I did need to measure and drill a hole into the SB bumper to accommodate and then drilled another hole into the housing to align with one of the tapped bumper holes used for the step plate.

Worked out great. I cut the license plate connector off of the harness and ran it to the LOD LED plate lights made for the kit. Wires are tiny, so if you have big hands, good luck! I do have the towing package with my JL, and once the bumper is installed, everything pretty much comes off as the bumper has a tow receptacle built in.

Once the bumper was installed, the towing electrical receptacle is about 1″ too low to reinstall. Luckily, the bumper comes with 1″ spacers! SM thought ahead and headache averted! Overall, I’d do it again.

Bumper looks great and whether it be front or back, whatever my wife hits, she’ll destroy. :).

Had to replace my old Smittybilt tube bumper installed in 2004. The current iteration of their design is about a foot shorter than what they used to make. Also the mounting feature is no longer a C shaped single piece and has been replaced with two pieces of plate.

The current mounting feature also doesn’t work well with the stock cast recovery hooks. I had to make a spacer for each side so I could remount the hooks. The tubes are also much closer together now which makes mounting a front license plate a little tricky.

Overall fit and finish of the new bumper is good and it went on without issue, aside from the hook spacers. It just seems like you get a little less for your money now with the current design.

I love this combination. After converting my JK into a JK-8 , I wanted to delete the factory gate and add a tire carrier so I could get bigger tires and also extend the length of my bed. This carrier acts as another gate which works perfectly! Easy installation (aside from the hinge pin) and very sturdy.

Boxes arrived in great condition but the tire carrier had signs it had been dropped on concrete. This must have been at Smittybilt before packaging. A little filing, mechanical persuasion with a ball peen hammer, and some rattle can bedliner; and it’s good as new.

Didn’t want to deal with the hassle of returning and hoping the next was in any better shape.

This bumper is a great low price option for a metal rear bumper. Probably one of the best options if you aren’t going high clearance and cutting the bedside. Installation assistance is best with extreme terrains YouTube video rather than reading the instructions.

If you have a trailer hitch and large hands, installing the spacers and bolts are hard to do under the truck but everything else is pretty easy. You can’t use the blind spot monitor system with this bumper so you will have to zip tie off the connectors.

I chose to just tuck away the back up sensors too. In the install video they don’t mention that the hitch plug harness does not reach with the new location. You will have to remove some harness hold downs from underneath the truck to extend the plug and make it reach.

When installed correctly the panel gaps aren’t bad at all between bumper and bed it’s not on and done, there is some adjustment that can be made. There are openings in the bumper for pod lights but there are no mounting points.

You will have to install your own by either welding on brackets or drilling holes through the bumper. My bumper was missing the hardware for the license plate but I was able to use two of the oem bumper bolts and some nuts that were spares in the hardware kit that worked fine.

Without assistance the bumper can be awkward to hold onto while placing onto the truck. It would be best to have help setting it down but after that it’s an easy one person job.

I was looking at rear bumpers for my JL for some time and came across this one. I was looking for a bumper with tire carrier that wouldn’t break the bank (ended up at about $900). Overall I’m impressed with the quality and am glad I got this one with other bumpers receiving some not so good reviews.

I had some help with installation and definitely recommend having the second set of hands. Instructions include how to disassemble original bumper, but it’s not hard to do without them. Installation instructions are pretty good and easy to follow.

Only negative I have at this moment is that it does add a significant amount of weight; I have the rear squatting a noticable amount on a rough country 2. 5 lift. I’m looking at getting some stiffer rear springs to solve the problem.

It was nice to have a license plate option for the bumper as a lot of aftermarket bumpers don’t. I used a separate third brake light relocate to the center of the spare.

Got rear ended a couple months ago and the stock bumper was damaged. I was recommended to get a steel bumper. Chose this one because it didn’t require much changes. Only downside was that the parts that came with this was the plugs for the backup sensors.

It was a size too small and just goes through the hole. Therefore was not usable. Overall, I like the look and hopefully the protection.

Talk about giving your rig a facelift! This beefy badboy will do just fine. Install was fairly straightforward. It IS possible to install by yourself, but best to have help. Looks great once you fine-tune the positioning.

Had to fab an 1/8″ shim for the driver side to line up. Included fog lights aren’t very impressive – but I didn’t buy it for those, anyways. LoL Overall, the bumper is a Beast. ????.

I love this grumper! It’s heavy as all hell but what do you expect when you buy this all iron bumper. Installed with my friend, took less than an hour because I didn’t install the blinkers. It also has a nice insert on the inside to put a winch in which I installed at a later date.

I get complements all the time.

The price sucks, but I do not regret my decision and would make again. Install was a but long for me but I am a gunsmith, not a car person. Took it on trails in eastern Alabama. It moves small trees without damage.

I feel extremely confident in its ability absorbing a 225# deer at 60mph.

Awesome look! Took a bit of cutting and grinding but I’m impress with my overall result. Extremely difficult to install had to call Fab Four for advice they got me through it instructions that came with it were a little different given they installed it on a 2016 and my 21’ trd pro was a bit different , if you aren’t mechanically experience don’t attempt to install yourself.

It was a hard install but worth it! If I knew it was going to be super hard I would’ve took it to a professional but I got it done and love the look!!!.

Had to cut the fenders that was pretty easy but man is that stressful. Fairly easy install but the fog lights came with no wiring instructions at all. Me and my bro bolted it on in a couple hours looks very good the taco thanks Fab Four !! ????????.

I went with this bumper for a number of reasons. 1 Factory look, Check 2 Rear protection, Check 3 Recovery points, Check 4 Ability to add auxiliary lights, Check 5 Quality, Check 6 Price, Check Only thing I would recommend for anyone thinking about this bumper that lives in an area that has snow or salt is to bring it to your local Line-X dealer and have them coat it.

It loos great coated and it will last much longer than if you left it powder coated. With the right tools and equipment it should only take around 2 to 3 hours to install.

Took about 45 minutes to install. Oy issue I ran into is trailer harness is not long enough. I need to see if there is slack somewhere underneath where I can get a couple of more inches. Would like to raise it another inch.

But not sure where to find more of those spacers? Also anyone know what lights will fit perfectly in those empty holes?.

I love this bumper ! However , 6 days after I had installed it, my truck was crushed by a tree in my driveway. I called ( & emailed) twice/ both to bumpers only. com to get a receipt for my insurance company and never got a response nor could I even get through on the phone with any of the automated options.

I was going to leave the bumper on the truck and buy another but had to go get it back instead of getting the reimbursement for it Thanks BO. com. You lost another sale plus a repeat customer. I can buy an Iron Cross bumper anywhere for the EXACT Same price.

Bumper was not thought out well. Does not fit most common winches without relocating the winch solenoid. So have to find a place under hold to mount that. If they would have made the bumper 1\4″ deeper i could plug in th winch controller without having to open the hood.

Bumper arrive with the powder coat scraped off the two books because of the way the dumb drive had the bumper sitting inside his truck. All in all not that happy having spent nearly 1400 on it then buying winch that won’t fit properly.

The bumper has a great finish and quality welds. It is sturdy but not excessively heavy. They used 10 guage on the flats with heavy plate where needed. The winch weighs 100 pounds and I don’t want a 300 pound bumper pushing down on the front suspension.

I think this bumper is the best when all things are considered. The looks are just a bonus.

This is a nice bumper! Strong, tough, looks like something from a military vechicle according to my son. It adds a couple of inches to an already long truck, crew cab/long bed Dodge 3500. A little bigger than I was expecting and a little more of a dramatic look to my front end.

I did add the skid plate and the rubber strips to the PUSH BARS. When we installed this bumper it left a big gap behind the bumper on the underside of my truck in front of my cooling systems and the skid plate covered this nicely and was easy to install.

Not too worried about any damage to my front end from wild boar, turkeys, deer etc. Parking is a little more of an issue but folks do move out of my way more quickly now! No one has asked for a push yet.

My neighbor is a police officer and he says it is a stronger push bar than what is on his patrol car. A little harder to open my hood but you can stand on this bumper and walk around the front. This is the industrial strength brush guard.

Whoever does the powder coating at the factory need some lessons. When you look into the nooks and crannies there is no coating. Its bare metal that we had to paint to avoid rust issues down the road.

I think it looks awesome but struggled a bit with install. The license plate holder does contain a light however, it seems that any cover will not work due to light placement and the curve on the bottom of the bracket.

As for the rear backup sensors. Getting them off the old plastic bumper was a real pain. Had to call DV8 support to figure out how to mount the sensors. I got the pdf for the install which I will link below, so I hope they will include it on the product page but is much more work than anticipated.

“If you have a plastic OEM bumper spread the outer tabs to release the sensor out of the back of the bumper. Then use a scraper or putty knife to break the plastic welds holding the entire bracket to the bumper.

KEEP TRACK OF HOW THESE ARE MOUNED AS THEY’LL NEED TO GO INTO THE NEW BUMPER THE SAME WAY” and “If you have and OEM plastic bumper use a strong epoxy to adhere the plastic housings to the bumper using the same configuration that was on the factory bumper then place the sensor into the housing reversing the steps used to remove it.

NOTE: the housings may need to be trimmed slightly in order to fit properly. ” I ended up buying MOPAR SENSOR BEZEL from DV8 instead of that hassle so now I have to wait. Overall, it will be worth it in the end but plan accordingly if you have sensors.

After much research and thought, I decided to go with the matte bronze because I saw way too many black wheels and wanted something different. I am beyond satisfied with my choice. These wheels look amazing! The color is even better than I hoped and is definitely attention-grabbing.

I paired the wheels with the Gladiator MT 35s and they look so TOUGH! I was shocked at how large the wheels/tires were and couldn’t wait to get them on my ride. which lead to one small hiccup: Though I paid for the “mount and balance”, some of the weights had fallen off in transit which obviously caused the wheels to be unbalanced.

I was able to take it to a local shop and they agreed to balance them for me at no charge. Once they were balanced, everything was great. I am very surprised that the tires don’t run louder than they do: I actually feel like they run quieter than the Goodyear I had on my stock wheels.

Long review but I can’t really express how satisfied I am with these DV8 wheels and Gladiator tires. and if you’re still reading, do yourself a favor and get these wheels!.

Like several other reviewers here, I fully agree the receiver port is very impractical and a challenge. The fit, finish, and quality of the bumper is excellent, it looks great, with a clean design, and is not as heavy as some other choices.

All good. But the integration of the receiver port is maddening. You need small hands, and the stubbiest short hitch pin you can find to maneuver it into place (from below and behind), and yes, once in, the pin is a challenge to remove.

The hitch pin hole area is within the enclosed space of the bumper. There are no safety chain holes. I loop safety chains through the D-rings, as attached. But this requires enough chain/cable length to make the longer reach.

If your trailering needs are light and infrequent, then you can probably live with the awkward design.

First it came packaged very well. The instruction pictures could have been a little better detailed. The quality of the finish is great and seems to be quite durable. It was an easier install than expected although have a good friend with you who is mechanically inclined.

If the hardware could have been packaged with what and where it went would have saved some guess work. I think it was advertised somewhere that it would take approximately 2 hours. It took us 8. The finished product is awesome and I am very happy altogether.

The quality and workmanship of this bumper are second to none. I’m not sure who estimated the install time to be about 2. 5 hours, but that estimate is absolutely wrong. It takes at least that long to disassemble the old bumper, cut out the crush cans, dress the edges, install the extensions, paint them, then the instructions call for gluing them to the back of the new bumper to ensure proper bolt alignment.

I used 5 minute epoxy and let them set overnight before trying to mount the bumper to the frame. The installation is not particularly difficult, but it is made more difficult by the poor instructions.

The photos are reprints of black and white pictures, and really don’t help much. Fortunately, there is at least one YouTube video that discusses the crush cans in detail making at least that part of the installation easier (by the way, that is probably the most difficult part of the process).

You are provided one huge bag of bolts and miscellaneous parts, and you are left to figure out which bolts are to be used for each part of the assembly. I laid all of the parts out on the workbench before starting the installation and tried to match them out to the appropriate part.

Rewiring the fog lights and adding the wiring extensions for the new indicator lights are not difficult, but just takes time to do it right. Overall, it is not a difficult installation, but will take the help of a second person to help you mount the new bumper on the frame rails as it weighs close to 200#.

The most disappointing part of the kit was the lack of a winch cover plate. The bumper is designed to be installed with, or without a winch. If installed without a winch, the instruction say to mount the winch cover plate to the top of the bumper prior to mounting the bumper on the frame.

What they don’t tell you is that it is not included in the kit (but it is listed in the parts included in the instruction manual). I called Extreme Terrain only to find after they did some checking, that it was NOT included in the kit and had to be ordered separately.

Extreme Terrain does not carry the part, so I was left to try and find it myself. The bumper itself is awesome! It looks great, fits perfectly and I have no doubt that it will last for the life of my Jeep.

Make sure you read the directions carefully before starting, and just recognize that it will take the better part of the weekend to install it correctly.

I would have given it 5 stars but it arrived with a big gouge down to the steel and the directions are poor. If you look online you will see color directions and note the wiring directions are backward for the 16 JK, They also have you cut part of the bumper frame section and that is not needed as after it was installed the section that was removed had plenty of room to have stayed there.

What bolt to use was also lacking details. Have all your bolts placed out and include the small pack of wire with time bolts and nuts for the fog lights. They were in another package. the plastic crush can cover cracked while getting installed.

I would ask for a replacement but you need to assemble everything to replace it. I would buy this again as it is a very nice Bumper. Not 2 hours either. More like 6. I did add lights and winch so I was at it all day.
