20 Best Tuner For Cello (2022 Updated)

This is a highly functional and stable tuner, with a great display layout. I’m able to lock right in on correct tuning by eliminating the blinking red (flat) or yellow (sharp) indicator bars. Fits well on the guitar and bass, and really easy to use.

I haven’t yet used the pitch change feature, but that will be very useful when playing against a particular organ that’s known to be a couple of cents flat. I am NOT, however, very highly impressed with the “HZ” feature.

It can only be used to display frequencies for the six guitar notes, EADGBE, and only in that order. I paid a little extra for the HZ feature thinking that it would give me extra precision for general needs, like checking intonation at several different frets on the guitar, or truing up that one bad F string on my son’s piano.

However, I can’t do those things. Just knowing the pitch of my guitar’s six strings down to the nearest Hz doesn’t help me in any significant way. So, HZ will probably stay turned off pretty much permanently.

Looks like I should have gone for the regular Super Tight tuner without the HZ feature. In hindsight, that would have been a great choice.

There are so many electronic tuners on the market, it’s difficult to narrow the field. Many have “polarized” reviews. A lot of good, along with numerous negative reviews (keeping in mind that consumer electronics always have a certain number of defective units).

I bought these in a 2 pack, around 10 dollars each (My first digital clip on tuners). I like several things about them. First, they don’t look like a tree growing out of your headstock. In other words, they are unobtrusive.

Secondly. they aren’t of the design like Snark and others that have obvious weak points (the “neck” that attaches the body to the clip), that you know will eventually break (read the negative reviews).

The locking stepped clip works very well. Third, the display not only physically rotates on the clip mechanism, the color LCD (LED?) display can be rotated electronically to 1 of 4 orientations, very much like you can do with photos on your cell phone.

Fourth, they are quite sensitive, much more than my old style Fender vu meter style tuners, which are getting finnicky. Fifth, You can quickly mount them and tune, no fiddling with patch cords and plugging and unplugging the cord.

You can leave them in place, with the display on the back side of your head stock, or wherever you prefer. Sixth, they work equally well on bass and guitars. If there is any con, it’s the fact that they are quite small, which of course is also an advantage.

It took some trial and error to find a good spot on my bass that allowed clear viewing, but that’s a minor thing. The display is quite small, but bright and easy enough to read, even for me, a far sighted over the hill guy.

I can’t speak as to longevity or battery consumption as I have only had them a few weeks. but another positive is that they utilize C2032 button cells, a common and relatively inexpensive size. You shouldn’t have to make a special trip to the specialty battery store when you need to replace them.

This tuner is tiny, but I don’t need my reading specs to use it. It clips to the neck of the guitar near the tuning heads and picks up the vibration from the guitar body. The display is clear and stable.

There is no peering at a wobbly meter reading or display at the end of a cable or propped inconveniently on the guitar or the amp. The device can be rotated to face you and the display can also be rotated for easy reading.

No reading upside down or sideways meters or displays. Best of all, there is no need to tell other band members (I’m looking at you, Mr. Drummer) to shut up so you can tune your guitar. And it doesn’t break the bank.

I have an older Korg tuner I really like, but with a separate workshop and music room I was constantly bringing it back and forth as I was working on instruments and/or playing them. I wanted another tuner to leave in the shop so the Korg could stay in the music room.

This tuner was appealing because of the cheap price and positive reviews. First, the positives – it is REALLY SMALL and easily “hidden” on a headstock if you want to leave it there. This is nice because it avoids the alien-robotic-insect look of most clip on tuners.

It’s easy to see in both dark rooms and under strong lighting, and it seems accurate in that it matches the results from my korg at least. Now, the bad news. It doesn’t really seem effective for electric basses.

I have two four strings, a five string, and a six string bass. They’re all different styles, there isn’t really a common thread between them. It’ll tune the D and G (and C on the six) just fine on all of them.

But the B and E strings are very hit or miss – sometimes it’ll pick up a note and let me tune. Sometimes it won’t register no matter what. Sometimes it’ll register but then it’ll instantly “drop” and it won’t keep the display lit long enough to effectively tune the notes.

This is really frustrating and I’ve basically given up on trying to use it for bass. I know this differs from the many other reviewers on here who are clearly using this tuner just fine on basses, so maybe I got a defective unit – but it is frustrating enough that I wanted to share my experience here.

I’m going to keep the unit because I like how it works on guitars, at least – I’ll probably just leave it clipped on my main guitar and buy another tuner to keep for the other instruments.

Does everything it says it does. I only have two complaints and two suggestion: 1) Tuning in poly mode seems to have you tune everything slightly sharp. I tuned all strings in poly first and then when switching to a single string to fine tune, ever single was string was just a hair sharp.

I don’t know if poly mode is accurate and single string mode is flat or vice versa, but that’s a minor gripe. You can use poly mode to get close and single string mode to get every string perfect. 2) There is no way to “lock” the pedal in one mode or the other.

You strum all strings for poly mode or one string for the other mode and the pedal automatically switches between modes. The problem is that you have to be sure ALL of the other strings are muted/completely silent to keep the pedal in single string mode.

If you even accidentally bump another string while trying to tune a single string, the pedal will switch back to poly mode. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the pedal in one mode or the other to avoid inadvertently switching back and forth.

Second suggestion, I wish there was a way to dim the display. When they say this pedal has an ultra-bright LED display, they mean it has an ULTRA-bright LED display. You could probably tune your guitar in low earth orbit with this pedal.

That’s fine in bright lighting or daylight, but at night or on a darkened stage, something that bright tends to affect my vision for a few minutes. Other than that, I found the pedal intuitive and easy to use.

The only thing I had to refer to the manual for was to find out how to switch between alternate tunings. There is a TINY little button near the input jack and I missed it when just holding the pedal and giving it a quick once over.

The pedal does not affect your tone in any noticeable way, even when you have your volume way up. The footswitch is smooth and there’s no audible pop (either on the pedal or through your amp) when switching the tuner on and off.

This thing literally can’t figure out which string is being player. It switches up strings and will skip over strings and their tunes, its ridiculous. I will tune the B string and this thing will skip from G straight to E and when I slowly tune back down it will skip straight back to G.

I got this for my nephew since he plays an instrument in school. He says it works, but I don’t know how well. Sorry I couldn’t have been better help for you. I can’t give it a recommendation or value rating, since I sincerely do not know.

But the shipping was fast, it comes in a small black box with writing on it. It is small. hopefully this helps somewhat.

This is surprising little package in that it provide many variables on tuning, time signature, and pace. The reason why it’s surprising is that it’s was so reasonably priced. Add to these features that it has a headphone jack and you leave nothing to chance by buying this item.

Since I just bought it recently, I can’t speak for its durability but overall, I am. Extremely pleased.

Accuracy is amazing. When tested with a frequency generator this tuner picks up the smallest deviation in frequency. Back lighting is a plus not found on models at twice the price. Auto shutoff saves batteries.

An excellent tuner.

This little tuner works very well. I guess I was a little behind the times because I had never heard of or used a poly tuner before. I was a little skeptical of how well it would really work in poly tune mode, but was not disappointed.

When you strum all the strings, you really can easily tell which strings are out of tune. If you don’t want to use poly tune mode, you don’t have to do anything other than pluck an individual string, and it automatically goes into standard tuner mode.

The display is very easy to see on a stage that may sometimes be dark. The tuner appears to be as sensitive as an analog meter-type tuner. This tuner does not use a battery and requires a separate power supply that is not included.

I ended up finding one in my junk box, but you’re supposed to be able to purchase one somewhere. I think the external power supply is a good idea, as batteries would not last very long with this unit’s LED display.

The tuner has an input and an output jack. As with most stage-type tuners, you plug your instrument into the tuner’s input, and connect the tuner’s output to your effect pedals/amp/stage input or whatever.

When the tuner is off (not in tuning mode), its display is off and the tuner is in “bypass” mode, meaning that the signal from your instrument goes straight through it with no added noise or attenuation (as far as I can tell).

When you press the switch to turn the tuner on, its display turns on and its output is muted. In other words, you can tune your instrument without the audience hearing you tune (or without the sound person having to mute you).

It’s disappointing that that it doesn’t come with a manual. However, it’s so easy to use that you hardly need one, but if you want one you will have to download it from the company’s site. The ad says nothing about this and doesn’t even reference a website.

The website is http://www. tcelectronic. com, and you have to look for the manual for the “PolyTune Mini” because it seems that the Noir was a limited edition tuner for which a manual was never written.

That’s not a big deal, though, because it looks like the Mini is almost exactly the same as the Noir. A greater concern is that the ad doesn’t say anywhere that the power supply is not included with the tuner, which is required for it to work.

Again, there is no link or easy way to buy one. I learned about the power supply from reading other reviews, but this is basic information that should be included. I’m giving this 5 stars because it’s a great tuner, but it’s pretty bad when you have to find basic information from other reviews that should have been included in the ad.

Really, Musician’s Friend, I love buying from you guys, but you need to update the information for this tuner.

I’ve been using the Polytune Mini on all my boards for years. This new Polytune 3 works better than the original ones, especially when strumming all strings for a quick check. If you are struggling for space on your gig board and need a reliable tuner, this one will do the job.

It’s nice to have a metronome, even if I don’t use it. This is Boss so you know it’s good and it does way more than I need it to, at least for now. I’ll grow into it as I use it more.

I’ve used a Boss tuner of some sort for years. Tried various brands and models but for me personally I find that Boss is best for me. I use and old TU-12 even though better is out there. So time to upgrade and I went through several before landing the TU-80.

It works fairly and seems well made. I prefer the old analog meter but this digital meter is okay although it’s hard to see. I still think the TU-80 would be great for the novice!.

I bought this for my husband who had mislaid his. This one is much better and has beat pointer. It’s very good quality and he is very glad he mislaid his other. later found. as if he hadnt mislaid it.

This thing was so cheap, I was worried it would not do the job. I was wrong. I wanted a multi-purpose tuner/metronome and this one is great for my needs. Tuner is. well, a tuner. Maybe not quite accurate as the expensive clip on Snark, but OK.

The metronome, while bare-bones, works better than expected. The TAP TEMPO function is GREAT. I have never used this function before but took too it right away. Metronome volume is just right for acoustic guitar practice.

The only draw back is there is a loud TICK for every fourth beat and you cannot turn it of (??). Hey Snark, some of us musicians actually practice in 3/4 time. DUH! Not really a problem tho, just an oversight.

This thing is slick! The microphone works great for accoustic and has a jack for electric guitar. For best results, use fresh batteries. It also helps to read the directions.

These Snark Yesme tuners are just incredibly good – not just for the price, but in general. They’re accurate, reliable, lightweight, and, yes, inexpensive. Sure, they won’t remember a custom reference frequency – you have to re-set that every time you use them.

But they’re so affordable, I put one in the case with every guitar I own, just so I always have a tuner available, regardless of circumstances. Buy two, and give one to a friend!.

Compared to similar tuners like the Snark SN-1 and SN-5 this tuner is junk, although tiny junk that occupies very little space in your gear bag. It is hard to position on the head stock so as to be able to read it right-side-up.

It is also hard to read because the diode readout is cheap and it mixes uppercase with lowercase letters. The B looks like a 6 and the G looks like a C. After tuning my guitar with this Korg tuner it still didn’t sound quite right.

I rechecked the tuning with one of my Snark tuners and found several strings still needed some adjustment to be properly in tune. The gizmo will get you in the ball park but then I suggest you do the old 5-5-5-4-5 method to fine tune your instrument.

My advice is to spend a bit more for a better tuner and forget about this one.

I used it on my 5 string bass guitar, and it picked up my B-string perfectly. Others struggle at 30 Hz. The display is a bit small, and it doesnt swivel. But I had no problem finding a suitable spot to put it.

The display flips up and holding the on button for 2 seconds inverts the display, which compensates for not having a swivel. Folds out the way nicely – I just leave it on my bass.

Purchased this product recently and really happy with it. Its great value, easy to clip on, the light shows well, it is very neat and easy to use, battery life is good as well. Would recommend this to any guitarist looking to tune quickly and get playing right away.

You cant go wrong with this tuner. The korg Pitchclip 2 does the job.

I already had a regular TM-60 with no external clip, which is great. 5 stars for that. This was on a Stupid Deal so it was an easy decision to buy it. I compared tuning with the clip to tuning with a cable.

The clip is not accurate enough and is less stable. The signal jumps around as you tune. I would be better off tuning with the built in Mic than the clip. Other clip on tuners are also more accurate than the clip in this combo package.

So for the Stupid Deal price I got another good TM-60 and I’ll see if the clip can be used as a surface trigger or something. Even if I end up tossing the clip in the spare parts drawer, the Stupid Deal price is worth it for just the TM-60.

I wouldn’t pay full price for the combo though.

Like you probably do or soon will, I own a Talman acoustin thinline guitar made by Ibanez. The guitar itself is not expensive, but it’s a great and quality instrument that deserves protecting. When I was looking for a case for it after I bought mine, I found that due to the peculiar shape of the guitar, this is the only option for a hard sided case.

Because of this, I was not expecting much because I did not have a choice in what I got, it had to be this. Now that I have the case, I can honestly say it is the best quality instrument case I have ever owned.

It fits my Talman acoustic like it was made for it (it was!) and I am always secure knowing that the guitar will be in perfect shape when I reach my destination.

Great little device! Good value. One suggestion, though: make a clip-on stand attachment. something that would hold the TM-60 on the stem of the stand, just below where the sheet music is. Easier to use as it would be in the line-of-sight, and much less likely to be dropped or misplaced.
