20 Best Tuner For Violin (2022 Updated)

I was given one of these by a pro musical friend, and I must say it’s a great product. You attach it to the side of the violin body next to the neck (upper left bout) and leave it there. It’s always there when I need a quick tuning, and it does NOT interfere when I put my violin back in the case.

Just put it on and forget it. The buttons work fine, it has + and – buttons to change pitch from the default 440, you can flip the display over with another button, and it even has a flashing metronome (no sound).

Really easy to use, and all these features are great, but if you install it or use it improperly, it won’t survive. It’s VERY small (around 1″ square) and it mounts to the violin with a sliding foot and cam mechanism.

The trick is to mash it down as tight as you can then lock the cam lever and it will be fine. If you don’t get it tight enough, it might fall off, but that’s pretty easy to get the hang of. Another thing, these tuners (and that includes most digital tuners) respond MUCH better to pulling a full, lasting tone on the string with your bow – – NOT by plucking the string! Bowing is MUCH more accurate, and the tuner responds better.

Just physics. Also, keep it turned OFF when not in use, and the battery will last a long time (one of my pet peeves is these people who leave their tuners on all the time, flashing and changing color endlessly).

What a waste! One more thing, the buttons are very close together on top, so be careful NOT to hit the + or – button by mistake or you’ll be tuning and playing OUT of standard 440 before you know it (boy, that’s embarrassing!).

The display is rather small, but bright enough to show up fine except in the brightest sun. Other than these few “DUH” points, this is the best violin tuner money can buy and it will serve you well. I’ve had mine now for 2 years and I play daily and have only changed the battery once.

I highly recommend this tuner, and if you exercise any reasonable care it will do the trick!.

Be careful when placing this tuner on the violin for the first time. If not handled with extreme caution, it will scratch the edging of the top. My advice would be to swivel the head of the tuner completely backward, pull the extension out much farther than the width of your violin, place the two rubber knobs where you want them to end up, then gently, gently push the bottom of the extension upward until it’s snug.

You can now tighten the clamp. Turn the head around to where it is facing correctly. If any of the tuner’s plastic rubs against the violin, it will leave a mark. The plastic edges are sharp. Not being especially vigilant, I now have small scrapes on the finish of my violin.

Great. Arrived on time and safely and was dealt with efficiently and proactively by customer service. Although, within 24 hours my tuner wasn’t working. I thought it was the battery for some reason; bought new batteries.

Worked great; came back to it a few hours later and it was dead again. Disappointing.

Just received this and compared it to two different Snark clip ons and two other brands. All were tried on 2 acoustic guitars, 3 different brands of electric guitars, and both acoustic and electric basses.

The Korg tuner was by far, the most accurate of the clip on tuners on all six instruments used for testing. More than any other part of the tests I performed, that alone speaks volumes. There are several additional features that are bonuses that give this Korg tuner extra value, in my opinion.

First, you have options of full and half displays of strobe tuning. This can be a tremendous value when you have to intonate a guitar or bass. Second, this tuner uses AAA batteries vs. NiCad batteries, which means each battery is less expensive, and replacements are easily accessible from multiple sources.

Third, the tuner has an automatic shutoff after 3 minutes of non-use. This is a huge battery life saver that most other tuners in this price range do not offer. Overall, a great value packed into a small clip on tuner.

I have wanted a new tuner because my korg one was a bit bulky and needed to be connected to an electric, or balanced precariously on my knee when I tuned an acoustic. The clip ones fit the bill but many use special batteries-an expense plus not always easily found.

One day they will all have lithium ion rechargeable batteries but until then. I found that Korg has a couple models that use a standard AAA battery. (Even better you can use a battery that is rechargeable if you already deal with those sorts of batteries).

It clips on and adjusts view easily. The standard tuning mode works really well. The display is bright and clear. I wish the power switch was with a simple tap (you twist a switch on the left to turn on and off) because sitting on the headstock it can somestime be awkward to get to the switch.

I have used the strobe mode but find I like the regular mode best. A great tuner from a company known for great tuners. I don’t know how others compare but I wanted the convenience of AAA batteries above all else.

1) I am much more likely to have AAA batteries than the flat CR2032 batteries 2) Good Price 3) Tuning has a few modes That tells you how close you are to the Tone 4) I like how it pivots on the hook so its out of the way when I hang my guitar.

5) The power on and off and mode change takes a bit to master but its a good design, that I hope works for a long time because it doesn’t use the traditional button method, the buttons are triangles at each side of the device that you need to rotate clock wise and counter clock wise 6) The LCD is bright and other tuners are not as bright or they lose the brightness right away with the current in the battery, and can stay dim for a long long time.

This one uses AAA battery and I haven’t used it long enough but all the batteries I tested worked and the LCD was very bright. The brightness and the AAA battery made this tuner my new favorite. I don’t know if any other instruments are supported, I just know and use a guitar, read the manual yourself to familiarize yourself with the product.

Great tuner. Just what was needed. Great deal. Glad I was offered it. Doggie ate my first one. All but the batteries. Love that tuner. Easy to use. Bass guitar. Regular guitar. And many more. Way kool.

This one should be just as good. Lonely with out it. Found another for a back up to this one but nothing like this deal. Glad it can along and just in time. Sounding way better now. Just what the doctor needed.

And now months later bought a second one. Another great deal. Had to bid this time. And won. No one else seems to use these any more. Was only bidder. But now having a traveling tuner. to go with the stay at home ones now.

This tuner is kind of bulky and obtrusive, especially if youre considering performing with it. It frequently misidentifies pitch on strings that are in tune. It lacks features other tuners have in this category, like selective frequency tuning.

While it eventually gets the job done , I think the design and programming are lacking. After much research Im buying another micro unit from a competitor because this one is too much trouble.

This Kliq Ubertuner guitar tuner is so easy to use and its bright and colorful display is clear and easily read in all lighting conditions. This tuner features a fully rotatable display that the player can set to read from just about any angle which is probably the most likable feature for me.

The Kliq Ubertuner is also highly accurate (+/- 1 cent) which is really why we all buy a tuner in the first place; so our instruments are in tune. I bought this tuner after I purchased another brand for almost twice the price of the Ubertuner and it is not only a really great value but far superior in overall design and ease of function.

Two very significant performance issues: 1. Turns off automatically every 10 minutes, especially irritating when your are practicing. 2. On/off button requires a hard push to turn on and it is necessary to the remove violin from your chin to do so.

Having a violin tuner that you can position on the violin body and move to where it is most visible while playing is an absolutely wonderful idea. When it is operating it does great, that is until it shuts itself off and you have to put the bow down, remove the violin from your chin and use the other hand for a hard button push to turn it back on.

I seriously doubt the designer ever used it for violin playing.

Picked this little jewel up for 12 yr. old violin student and recommend all versions of it to musicians of all experience levels. BONUS: It’s a metronome too. No sound just a blinking light. One fits inside the sound hole of an acoustic guitar, and is only visible to the player.

The one for the violin clamps onto the body of the instrument unlike others that only clamp onto the scroll. This makes it visible to the player both for quick note reference or metronome, as they can set it up to view in line with their music stand.

I use a lot – a whole lot – of Fishman products. The products are top-notch, and their support is exceptional. I play through a Fishman Aura pedal, so when performing, I use the tuner in the Aura. For practice, headstock tuners are the quick, easy way to go.

Some are difficult to see, others are not very sensitive, so they don’t easily get you where you want to be. The Fishman FT-2 are super sensitive, so they’ll get you absolutely dialed in; they’ll even pick up when your strings are old and not vibrating at a consistent frequency.

I read some reviews that complained that they are too sensitive, so it’s hard to get them to settle onto the green. True, but you can also tell when you’re close, and you can stop there. I tune my 2nd string slightly flat, so it won’t go sharp on a D chord.

These tuners make that easy. And when you get to green, you’re right on pitch.

Sorry to dissent from the prevailing consensus about this Fishman FT-2 Tuner, but my experience was not a good one. I’m a vision-limited person, and liked the idea of a tuner with a large, easy-to-read display that turns on and off automatically when it is flipped up for use, and then flipped back down to the off position when not in use.

I had high hopes for the tuner based on its feature list and reviews from other users. I play classical guitar, and the headstock design for the modern concert classical instrument is apparently somewhat thicker than this tuner was designed to accommodate.

Several of my guitars have headstocks in the 23-25mm thickness range, which is close to an inch thick. I was able to barely squeeze the FT-2 tuner onto the headstock of one of my guitars at the maximum extension of the clip.

I tuned the guitar precisely one time without event. The following day, after using the tuner, when I flipped the tuner back to the “off” position, it popped off the headstock, did a triple-gainer and landed on a tile floor from a height of about 4 feet.

The battery compartment door popped off and a tiny piece of plastic separated from the tuner. Now the battery door will not go back onto the tuner. The clip needs to be wider and the tuner ruggedized if Fishmanwants to market this tuner to classical guitarists and stage performers who can’t always afford to be delicate with their instruments.

Two stars!.

I was looking for a clip-on tuner that was easy for me to see and use. After researching a few online I decided to buy the Fishman FT2 Flip-On Tuner from AMS. I’ve never had a clip-on tuner and I took a guess that I would prefer viewing it from the back of the headstock and not from the front.

I knew I’d be looking at it upside down when viewed from the back because the display doesn’t automatically flip around like some more expensive clip-on tuners do. The display is large enough and ingeniously designed in that the meter changes colors if your flat or if your sharp, and the screen lights up green when your in tune.

Very cool! It’s very easy to use even though the string letter displayed is upside down. If you prefer viewing it from the front of the headstock, even better as that’s the position it was designed for! When you’re done tuning, it flips down onto the clip which turns it off.

Just flip it up to tune and it turns back on. For the price you can’t beat it. I bought two!.

I really like the USB charging feature. I bought it to replace another brand on the strength of that one feature. Sadly, the tuner has a big sloppy window of ‘good enough’ for tuning. It is consistently flat, so I can’t trust it.

I end up using a free, tuner app on my phone to double check tuning. That too is USB chargeable and well, free and accurate. Fender, you are on the verge of a really good product here, now just make it do the the function that is part of the name – the tuner part.

This Fender FT-1 tuner works great for me. I only use it for guitar. It is easy to use and takes up very little space in my guitar case. There is only one negative for me and that is because I’m old and have arthritis.

The length of the clip handles is short making it difficult to open for me. The spring tension may relax over time and make it easier but straight out of the package it is hard for me to get enough pressure on it to open up to clip onto the instrument.

That is the only thing that you might consider if you don’t have good hand strength. Other than that it works great and is easy to store. I would recommend it.

The tuner charged quickly and so far has held its charge (I’ve had it for 3 weeks). The display is big and easy to see. It is easy to change the tuning modes(Guitar, Chromatic, Violin etc). The swivel works quite well.

My only concern is that you can get close (satisfactorily close) tuning and you must turn the tuners slowly otherwise needle for lack of a different word goes too quickly to the blue ( in tune) light and may not be as close as if you turned the tuner key slowly.

I do like that I can tune my guitar and mandolin. I am very pleased and I would buy it again.

I have gone through a big bunch of clip-on tuners(none Korg Brand) in the 15 years since purchasing my Korg CA tuner from MF. The clip-ons have all failed electronically or mechanically and dropped by the wayside.

As if that wasn’t reason enough to rely solely on the CA, I realized also craning my neck to see the clip ons while tuning was irritating my chronically over-bent guitar player’s neck. Since deciding to use the CA exclusively, many years ago, it has served me daily for many years without fail.

The battery has lasted so long, it is probably an antique. My only quibble, the flip out tilt lever has long required tape to keep it functioning. It still works fine with the tape, which is hidden behind the unit.

I see it has been altered in this new model, hopefully it is more robust, though it really has not impacted me much. Still, if you tend to drop things, like I do, be forwarded. I visited this page thinking I should have a back up, even though my CA has been my flawless aide for so long I it is hard to imagine needing a back up.

Anyway, I was shocked this little gem has no accolades on this page and wanted to relate to future visitor’s what a great piece of equipment this is.

It works great. It is very accurate, very reasonablely priced. I have ab my older model that is still working after years, heck I can’t remember how long I’ve had it! This thing can even help you if your picks are too high, tune your guitar before you amp up and I love that it works great for Guitar and bass.

If needle is waving Sharp and Flat lower the bridge and wa-la. This more apparent when setting the intonation. This includes 4, 5, and 6 and at lets the one 7 string guitar I used it on. I do tell friends about it, gave one as a gift and would buy another if I needed it! An easy 5 star.

I’ve always had a couple of these around the studio and one in my travel gig bag. Then my puppy decided he likes the crunch of them, so I’ve had to order a couple new ones and get used to stashing them where he can’t steal them.

The battery lasts forever and they are accurate, easy to read and totally hassle free – just not puppy proof! I have other tuners, but these are #1 in my book.

I have two of the GA-2s and one of the much older CA-2? (don’t have it with me but it is silver with smaller display). I have had the older one since 2004 and still use it. I do have a rubber band to keep the case closed (have opened it many many time to change batteries.

I used it exclusively from 2004 to ~2016 and use it about 40% of the time now). I use the GA-2s mostly for 4-string bass (my primary instrument) tuning but also for my electric and acoustic guitars. I keep one in each bass case.

Batteries last a long time. Devices have never failed me. I tried two different head stock USB (for charging) tuners and both failed within 6 months. Went back exclusively to these Korg tuners. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the newer ones don’t seem to work as well for tuning acoustic guitars via the mic as the older one does.

Still quite usable. They do the job for a good price.

I was looking for an easy-to-use tuner that would allow me to change the key for tuning for my 12-string guitar. I had other more-expensive tuners that would do this, but they required multiple steps to do so.

When I saw this one had single-button key changes, I had to try it. As soon as I got it in I grabbed the guitar, plugged in the cord, hit ONE button and the tuner was set up for the half-step lower tuning I needed, easy as pie.

As soon as I finished up, I hat ONE other button to return it to Standard tuning, plugged my bass guitars into it and tuned them up as well. This could not be easier, and it’s exactly what I needed. I gave my much more expensive tuner to my son as I was so happy with the KORG.

This is an amazing tuner that does what it’s supposed to with no issues. I would recommend this over a standard guitar/bass tuner since it can detect pitches that fall outside the range of standard tuning since it is chromatic, and that means it suits alternate tunings.

The flip out stand on the back is also a great feature. I have the tuner propped up on top of my amp and it looks as great as it functions. Having an input/output makes it even more versatile since you can leave it plugged in to the amp all the time and not worry since it has bypass which means sound passes through even when the tuner is off.

And if you have an acoustic guitar? No problem, this tuner also has a built-in microphone. The only downside is that is has no illuminated screen. Unfortunately is seems Korg does not offer an illuminated version of this model, but you really can’t complain as this is one of the best tuners you can get at this price point.

I’ve always used Korg tuners over the years since I started playing and have yet to be disappointed. The Korg CA-50 is a solid little tuner that’s very simple to use and has everything you’d need out of a tuner.

For me, this was an upgrade from my last Korg tuner since it finally died after something like 10+ years? These things are pretty well built and will definitely last you for some time. It’s got all the feature you’d expect from your average tuner and even has a mic for tuning non-electric instruments.

The mic picks up pretty well and I’ve never had an issue tuning an acoustic with this thing. It’s also very small and compact and will easily fit into your guitar case or however you choose to transport it.

I may be a wee bit biased since in all of my years of playing, I’ve only used Korg tuners but why fix what isn’t broken as they say? Never had any issues and Korg always puts out a solid product.

I used this tuner to tune my guitar, and I hope to use it to tune my other instruments as well! It doesn’t label the notes of the strings of my guitar, for example, and it only has one mode- Chromatic.

I would only recommend this tuner to someone who has experience tuning his/her instrument and knows the notes of the strings/keys of the instrument well in order. What’s good about this tuner is that I can know what note I’m on so that I can know whether to tune my strings to a higher or lower pitch.

It’s a very accurate tuner, so accurate that my cheap guitar can’t measure up! I can’t get it perfectly in tune with the tuner! However, after tuning it with the Snarkman tuner, my guitar sounded better than it had in years! I also like the feature that you can tune it with the capo up to four frets higher than the default notes! This way, you don’t have to take off your capo, tune it, and then put back on and readjust the capo to the guitar! In capo mode, you don’t have to recalculate for which note you need.

The tuner does that for you! The tuner will read a note that is really an F with the capo on the 6th or 1st string as an E- the name of the open string note! I would expect that such an accurate tuner would be more expensive, about double the price, but no! It’s very affordable compared to other tuners that I’ve had in the past! (Note to Sam Ash Music Stores: Please don’t double the price just because I said that I was surprised at how low the price was! Us musicians pay enough for our equipment! We need our hard-earned money for ourselves!) I recommend this tuner to the experienced musician who is looking for quality and precision at a low price.

Bought the tuner in Vegas as a last minute “I forgot my tuner before a gig” from guitar center. I denied the coverage plan cause I’ve had my Korg tuner for over a year with no issues and I thought buying the Super Snark, the leading clip on tuner that is widely loved, would be a good idea.

30 bucks. Played the gig and it worked great. Got home. Went to put my guitar away with the tuner on it. And it wasn’t on enough. ? Sure whatever, it fell onto my hardwood floor and now the LCD screen is broken.

I’ve dropped my Korg, sat on it, all the above. And it works great. The snark touched the ground one time and not even a bad one and the screen is broken. I can squeeze the tuner and the screen works but seriously I just spent 30 dollars on this for a 1 time use.

I’ll never buy a Snark again. The low profile Korg tuner is phenomenal and will work better than this POS.

I bought it for my French horn. It seems to work fine, and even though the position of the display can be adjusted to several viewing positions, I can’t seem to find a way to view it successfully while I am playing the horn.

I buy these and the super cheap tuners for resale. That way if they want cheap or student I give then a cheapo, but if they are a pro I sell then one of these.

I have used this Tuner for many years and it has been very dependable. I recently bought another one. Even if this tuner is slightly more expensive than some Chinese ones this works better and feels more accurate.

Make sure that batteries are fresh.

I’ve been playing acoustic guitar for over 40 years, and in that time, I’ve used every kind of tuner imaginable. These little Fishman “clip-on” jobbies are, by far, the simplest and easiest to use. Just put in the battery, clip it on the headstock, flip up the screen, rotate it to your field of view, and sound your strings one at a time.

I love the “auto-on” function. tuner turns on automatically when you flip up the screen, and turns off when you flip it back down. For best results, gently mute the other strings with your fingers, so that the sensor built into the clip receives vibration only from the string you’re tuning.

The LCD display’s combination of note/letter, “needle” reading, and colors (red for sharp, orange for flat, green on pitch) make finding the “sweet spot” for each string a snap, even for beginners, and even when other stuff is going on all around you.

Studio musicians will probably still prefer a more complex tuner like a strobe, e. g. , for maximum information/control on pitch variance, capo applications, string condition, etc. But for the average guitarist who just wants a simple and quick way to make sure his/her instrument is always in basic tune, this gizmo does the job, at a very modest cost.

Can’t believe I waited so long to get one of these clip-on units (the last time I played seriously was right before these hit the market). This one is extremely easy to use; really like the flip-up to turn on, flip-down to turn off feature.

My current acoustic and electric are both temperamental about staying in tune, and this makes it much quicker to tweak that. I play in a lot of alternate tunings and it’s now orders of magnitude easier to change back and forth.

Will probably pick up another one. Long-term durability remains to be seen (I have a 20-year-old Korg still on the original battery) but for the price it’s a no-brainer.

Product works well, as described, even with the low B of the 5 string bass.

Tuner is great to easily dial in tuning your bass or guitar. Unfortunately, I lost mine on the last gig. The tuner easily comes detached from the clip, usually falling down into my gig bag. Last gig it must have fallen outside the bag on the stage.

So that was a loss after owning it about a month and doing a handful of gigs. Please improve this part of the design. (Our guitar player owns this product too and complains about the same thing!).

I am very picky about tuners because they are the lifeblood of any performing musician. The perfect tuner needs to: light well enough to be easily seen, rotate in many directions, be easy and convenient to use, work every time you need it, and provide features that help you tune efficiently.

The DeltaLab CT-10 is all of that. So many tuners out there (and I’ve tested quite a few) do not light well. If you are tuning in a darkened area, you never want that to be an issue. This is not only lit well, but the tuning grid turns from orange to green when you are perfectly in tune.

Easy on/off feature means no fumbling and bumbling every time you need to check your tuning. It rotates into any position I could possibly need and the padded clip doesn’t scratch my headstock. A very well-designed, durable and easy to access tuner.

Ever sense going to college and becoming a gigging multi-instrumentalist, I needed something more than a tuner to plug into at the start of a bedroom practice session. I found great value in a clip on tuners with acoustic instruments (violin, cello, upright), as they will tune any instrument without having to use cables or find a quiet room.

Unfortunately, because of being a multi-instrumentalist, clip on tuners are constantly getting lost for me between gig-bags. I’ve gone through many clips over the last few years, but this is the tuner I keep coming back to.

It works the best, has the fastest and most accurate reading of the pitch, and is consistent. Most tuners that I’ve used had problems reading the low notes on a bass, but this one has given me very little trouble even on the low B string.

This thing is consistent enough that I’m considering buying another one even though I currently have three tuners.

Small clip on tuner. Does what it’s supposed to do. Nice feature with the chromatic option. For tuning guitar just change modes and it will only recognise the 6 strings of the guitar. Super simple!

This tuner is very easy to use. The arrows either side of the required note indicate whether a particular string is sharp or flat. They decrease in number,the nearer you get to the required note or increase if you’re going in the wrong direction; the screen turns from orange to green when the correct note is reached.

This is great for beginners but also very useful for experienced players when tuning in noisy surroundings. I was also impressed by DJM’s service. I ordered just a few days before Christmas as my grandson had belatedly told me he wanted to learn the ukulele and I did not expect delivery before Christmas.

I paid for “Standard” delivery. The tuner arrived by first class on Christmas Eve so I was well pleased. This is not the first time I have used DJM. They have not disappointed me yet and I recommend their service.

Pretty basic but does what it says on the tin. Comes with battery which is convenient. Not sure how accurate it is? Think I’ll stick to a tuning app next time.
