20 Best Turkey Dog Food (2022 Updated)

Aubrey had been doing some, bottom carpet scooting. She was also scratching a lot. The vet suspected she may have allergies to food. It was suggested I cut out ANY chicken, and try any other protein.

We went through rabbit, duck, venison and pea, and even other brands of turkey. It was getting expensive, as she would eat some, the decide, no thank you. She didn’t even enjoy the wet food given to her! For over 2 years now, Aubrey has been eating Taste of the Wild Prey Turkey, happily and excitedly.

She has never turned her nose up at it, and still begs for more after her meal is done. She has never liked a food this long. On a great side note, her carpet surfing has stopped, she is MUCH less itchy, so very soft, and look at how pretty and clear her eyes are.

She just had her vet checkup and she is as healthy as can be. I buy the large bag, knowing she will eat the whole thing, even if it takes her a while, and that I will not be left with an open half eaten bag.

My other cat, Zetta (not pictured, I didn’t want to tease her), unfortunately has SEVERE allergies, and is on a very special diet. She too LOVED this food. She even breaks into Aubrey’s special food dish and steals some of her kibble.

In good news, Zetta does not seem to react very badly to her extra meals. Other foods would make her itch so horribly, her neck and ears would bleed, and, she lost all her fur on her belly. If she can ever get off her special diet food, I am so glad to know that Taste of the Wild Prey Turkey, will be a good transition for her!! This is by far the best food I have found for my cats!.

For almost all of his life, my cat had been eating wet foods with chicken and a few types of fish. Recently, he started developing an allergic reaction (complete with hives), and our vet suggested that his food might be the cause.

She recommended switching to a food with a different main protein than his past ones, but I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to find a quality food with clearly labelled ingredients not containing chicken or unspecified types of fish.

This was one of the only foods that didn’t break the bank and still fit the vet’s recommendations! I am so grateful this exists. My cat loves it, and it even smells like a quality food. Tomato is the 3rd ingredient, and on opening the bag it smells like tomato soup! I like to add a bit of pet safe beef broth, and occasionally a bit of pumpkin and wheatgrass puree I found.

My cat has had no allergic reactions since he started this new diet.

if you have a dog who has allergies- this is the food for you! i have a dog that has skin, ear, and stomach allergies. the wrong food and he gets horrible eye boogers, bloody diarrhea and ear infections constantly.

he’s been on this food for over a year and it’s been amazing. i have another dog that when she runs out of food, we are able to completely switch her to this food and she doesn’t get sick at all. (that’s how great it is) (btw- she has a sensitive stomach as well).

all in all- highly highly recommend. pricey but so worth it. 25lb bag lasts my 30lb dog about 3 months!.

My dog lost a lot of weight, has allergies, liquid diarrhea, red paws and flaky skin. My vet started him on a special diet and he wasn’t getting better even losing a few more pounds. I bought an over the counter allergy test and he was allergic to the vet prescribed diet.

This is one of the 3 foods on the market he is not allergic to. Now to brag: He’s not allergic to it! Stool has formed. GAINED WEIGHT! Negatives? Skin is an on going process. Giving him more than serving size Always wanting more food.

Just want to clear up something. Ignore the statement about how each pound of this food makes five pounds of food prepared IF you are attempting to compare it to kibble. Pay attention only to the cups of food in the bag because it typically takes just as many cups of food to feed your dog whether freeze dried or dry kibble because the calorie content is similar cup to cup between the two.

I feel like this “makes 35 lbs of food” is a misleading tactic. For each cup (0. 2 lbs) of food, you have to add 1. 5 cups (approx 0. 8lbs) of water. So now whereas a single one cup serving of kibble normally weighs 0.

25lbs, your single one cup serving of this food weighs a full pound for the same calorie content. So, a seven pound bag of this will give you the same amount of servings as your average seven pound bag of kibble, not the same amount of servings as a 35lb bag of kibble.

An example of this is the fact that it takes 4. 5 dry cups of this food to feed an 80lb dog per day. At 35 cups per bag, that is less than eight full servings. Again, this is just to clear up some confusion for those who are used to buying kibble by the pound and knowing about how long that food will last.

My fur kid is a 8 years old GSP, he has a sensitive stomach, it took us some time to find his food when he was almost 2 years old and after that from time to time we still had issues with digestion. Now he is 8 years old, we started to think migrate his food to fit age requirement.

Our principle trainer suggested to use raw food which I was not sure and could not accept the raw idea before until now. I did research and settled on this one. From the first scoop the dog loved it.

We did not totally change the food structure. We go half regular dog dry food and half this raw food (wet), the food is digested very well, we can see the change from the fur shine and poop form. I also use soup to sub the water to make the taste even better.

If any parents want to try the raw food, this is a good start. The quantity generated is worth the price. The quality is top level. Dog may not totally absorb the vegetable bits, it won’t affect the whole result.

We are on this food for over a month now (June 2022), I can see we will stay with this one for some time.

We decided to give our 18 mo old lab a better diet. She is lean and healthy, & very athletic. Not into food like many labs are. She obsesses over a ball more than food. When I brought the new bag of Sojos Complete, she immediately gravitated to it, sniffing the bag.

My first attempt to weaning her off her kibble and introduce 25% of Sojos, she whimpered as it sat on the counter absorbing the water. Well, I put 1:1. 5 Sojos to water ratio. That was way too much water, even after waiting 30 minutes.

Still soupy, I mixed 1/2 of it in with her kibble. She loved it! In fact, she liked it so much that I gave her the rest of the soupy Sojos. She’s on 100% Sojos, after about 10 days. She’s not as excited about it anymore.

Morning feedings are half eaten, then later in the morning she grazes and finishes it. In the evening, she’s hesitant, but eventually finishes her meal. We will continue to give her Sojos Complete because I know it’s better for her than her kibble.

Love the locations! Love the high quality brands you carry, like my dog’s: Open Farm. However, I find that a lot of flavors of their freeze dried food and wet stews are out of stock at multiple locations regularly.

I’ve called ahead to find a flavor because the online store says it in stock at a particular location. When I call, an associate often says it’s out of stock and the website just doesn’t reflect inventory accurately.

In my opinion, that renders the websites’ inventory useless. It makes it hard for me to find food in a pinch. I don’t want to have to go back to ordering directly from the company online. I’d like to be able to buy this food in stores, but big retailers like Petsmart and Petco don’t carry this brand.

It has clearly gained more popularity over the years so I think you guys should stock more of the flavors that sell out so often. If you regularly had my dogs food in stock, I would be a more regular customer.

However, I understand that things like this can be out of your control which is why I still think you deserve a pretty high rating. I otherwise love everything I’ve purchased from your store and so does my dog.

My dog is very picky with food, she only really loves boiled chicken. usually she leaves her kibble out for hours until she gives up waiting for us to give her something & eats it. Even then some times she’ll pick out whatever topper we gave her and leave it on the floor.

Not with this!! We changed to open farm and only bought the turkey grained kibble to test it out. we have had no trouble with it so I decided to buy more and these freeze dried items with the broth bundle.

She LOVED it! she ate all her food in one sitting, didnt pick out anything and even after she finished she kept licking her bowl. The freeze dried is very easy to break apart with your own fingers no need for scissors or anything.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has a picky eater like mine!! Also can I point out how fast shipping is?!?! only takes a couple days and the last two times ive ordered it actually came a day earlier than expected.

Our small 9 year old schnauzer/toy poodle mix has suffered from terrible skin problems the last few years, alternating between severe dryness, to stinky oily skin, to huge crusty hives, we have spent lots of money on vet bills & treatments and special vet food to no avail.

We finally took both our dogs off all commercial dog food and started to make their dog food from scratch, over the last year,things improved but so many food items flared his skin up terribly (beef, chicken, rice) but at least we now had a list of what he could and could not eat.

However it’s a little overwhelming making dog food every week along with running a household. Our local small pet food store owner (Bark Avenue) has been very helpful she put us on to Open Farm Homestead Turkey Freeze Dried Raw Dog Food turkey with no grains she said try a limited ingredient diet so we took him off everything and that’s all we fed him (and continue to feed him 8 months now).

Within 2 weeks of the Open Farm Homestead Freeze Dried Raw dog food that funky oily smell that could not be shampooed or brushed out went away, completely. 6 months of feeding our dog the Homestead Turkey Freeze dried food and the occasional Open Farm Turkey tetra pack of wet food; his skin and coat is almost back to normal he still has a very small bit of dry skin patches however he’s our happy guy once again and we know he feels better and his weight has stabilized.

We are so very pleased with the results we’ve seen in our dog and thankful our local store suggested this brand and we are pleased with the firm stance Open Farm takes on the quality of the food and the sources it comes from.

Okay, if you have 1 dog you know the struggle to find a food that is both nutritious & one they will eat. If you have more than 1 dog it can become a full time job satisfying their appetites. I have 2 dogs.

One is a Shih Tzu the other is a Pug/Shih Tzu mix. When this popped up on chewy I read about it & thought I’d give it a try. Hallelujah!!! They BOTH ate it! No issues what so ever. I did my “happy mommy” dance in the kitchen.

In fact, I even reordered it a couple times because they continued to eat it. Meal time was no longer a “come on guys, do you know how much this costs?” nightmare. I put it down & it was good as gone.

So BIG 5 stars for Purina Bella! Thank you Jesus!! That being said, now the rest of the story. About a month ago my 13 year old Shih Tzu started licking his paws. To the point of it be distracting if you were trying to watch TV, we had to yell “STOP!” This had never been an issue with him before.

In fact, we thought he thought he was too good to do “normal” dog stuff like licking. Then one morning he was limping on his front paw & it was at least 3X it’s normal size. I called the vet. After a $250 visit, draining of an abscess, 14 day round of antibiotics/pain killers he recovered.

Then I noticed the all over itching, itching more & even MORE itching. He was itching so much he was crying while rubbing his face all over the carpet. This has never been an issue before. Baths with medicated soap helped for a day or so but always returned.

There was a crusty yellow film that developed all over his body. His neck began to have sores that looked like ring worm & SUPER oily, smelly discharge on his fur/ears. YIKES! Being a nurse I KNOW what yeast infections look like.

Then I went down the internet rabbit hole because really who can afford a weekly Vet visit? I switched his food to a “food sensitivity” brand. Helped a little. Then I threw in probiotic chew & the itching was cut in half.

It calmed it quite a bit. Now I’m waiting for his skin to heal. I had my Vet order a Rx form of dog food for dermatitis. WHOA! the price is CrAzY expensive but he’s my whole world & worth it. His suffering was heartbreaking & I’m not putting him through that again.

I just wanted to give a heads up to other pet parents to be wary if you have an animal that it may develop issues it never had or exasperate one it does. My other dog still eats it with normal dog itching.

I’ll finish this bag but I won’t buy again. Deflated & disappointed because at a reasonable cost, they did like the taste & ate it.

Bella is a great dog food, especially if you have a pet with digestive issues. We have an older dog (16) and we were at our wits end. We could not find a food that did not just go right through him. We had to switch to straight rice and egg and that stopped working.

He was getting weaker and weaker. We saw Bella at the store and said it can’t be any worse than what we have tried. Surprise!!! It did not go right through. After a few days he started regulating. Bella actually saved my dog.

this review is for the wet food — Realized that this food makes my dog very ill. Thought he had a stomach bug the first time, but after giving him this food again he’s starting back up with the vomiting.

Hopefully it’s not as bad this time. We had to take him to the vet and administer meds for a week before because the diarrhea & vomiting was ongoing. It was a nightmare. Will be returning the rest to the store.

My 5-lb. , toothless chihuahua devours this food. He’s not terribly finicky, but he has severe allergies to most proteins. Fish and limited dairy is all he can tolerate. It’s no small feat to find acceptable dog food, especially a brand that is fresh.

Before discovering FreshPet, we would tenuously cook and purée homemade pescatarian meals according to a UC Davis recipe for 21 days worth, then divvy it up into chihuahua-sized servings then freeze it, pulling out a few days’ worth at a time.

FreshPet is a game changer for his humans, and Julien undoubtedly enjoys it more than anything we’ve given him, including the food we make for him. The consistency is perfect and presents no digestive issues for a dog with no teeth.

The berries are visible and whole, yet very soft and easily consumable. I haven’t seen any other fresh food providers offer fish. The packaging is minimal and servings are clearly marked and easy to manage.

My only suggestion for improvement concerns product distribution. I would love it if this product was more available both locally and online. Currently, the only option I’ve found for delivery is Amazon Prime, but it’s not consistently available.

Overall, with the quality of the product itself, I’m highly pleased, and so is my dog.

After my fifteen year old Jack Russel had AVVI, he became very picky about what he ate. Part of this is due to the medication he is on, but he lost four pounds (down from twenty to sixteen, which would be akin to me, a 145 pound man losing 29 pounds.

I’d look like a skeleton, if I didn’t just die) when he quit eating the food he was accustomed to (dry). We had some luck with a dehydrated brand that the pet store three blocks away recommended, but after a bout of nausea, he refused to eat it at all.

I’ll be frank, perhaps this is what happens when you live in the middle of a city, but the owners of that store pooh-poohed Nature’s Fresh. “It’s precooked, it’s not natural. ” Fine. But this is what my dog will eat.

I have no such complaints about Nature’s Fresh. Sure, it’s something you can buy at Whole Foods, but it’s the only way we can get our old man to eat. He loves it. He whines (which he never does for any other reason) when I start mashing it up.

It is his absolute favorite. I am sure that all dogs can benefit from Nature’s Fresh, but honestly, it seems to be very popular with older dogs who have digestive issues. He’s still not up to weight, but he has slowly been getting close and there is no way he would have gotten there without it.

Kudos to y’all for your good work. Hell, I have tried a bite and it, unlike dry food, is something I could eat, sort of like Mad Max did in The Roadwarrior. (I always try a nibble of my dog’s food when we try something new.

I’m eternally curious. ).

My 17 lb. Pomeranian has had tummy issues on and off. We will go through a day of nausea and vomit to the point of her vomiting bile, then off feed for up to two days. I have always had her on grain free, but after her episodes, it was always difficult to get her back on her diet.

There was always the slow transition with rice, finding a supplemental canned food to mix in, adding in her dry. I hated the canned food and after one of her episodes, she hated her dry food so I was at a loss.

I did some research on raw and making it myself (realistically, I knew that was never gonna happen) when I came across reviews for Pet Fresh grain free. So, I went out and bought a log and the rest is history.

We did go back and forth between the Vital and the Nature’s Fresh and have settled on the Nature’s Fresh, mostly the chicken (the salmon smells way too fishy). When she is hungry, she barks up a storm waiting for me to get her meal ready, and there is not a piece left in the bowl when she is done.

On occasion, she will still have an episode, an unfortunate predisposition. However with some anti-nausea medication and Freshpet it’s much easier to get her back on track to her regular diet. Thanks!.

I have 4 rescue wolf dogs and 2 rescue labs. Lots of appetites! I balance out their diet with this food, they eat quite a bit of raw meat, veggies and fruits- but still need the vitamins and minerals for a healthy diet.

To them this bag has treats inside. After picking out all the chicken chunks they think I specially gave with dry dog food, they eat the rest of the remaining kibble. I am cautious of treats for dogs because of where they are manufactured and ingredients, they get raw cow bones, deer bones , chicken feet and occasionally a treat bone maybe once every 6 Mos.

My pack is healthy , happy and full of energy along with beautiful double coats of fur that float by me. Ordering was easy, cheaper than @ a regular store. The only problem that happened was their 6 mo treat bones didn’t come with their order after I told them they got treats on the way.

I contacted Chewy and they were shipped out that day. I’m trying the regular once a month delivery and will see how much it stays within my budget, rescuing dogs, I never know when another forgotten soul will need a place to feel safe and join my pack until they find their forever home.

I have fed this exact dog food except for it was chicken and rice for the last 5 years or so my 6-year-old dog was having some gut issues and when I went to get her up today on her shots for boarding I brought up some of the issues and he said you need to put her on Purina One I told him she already is on Purina One chicken and rice.

He proceeded to tell me to switch her to the lamb and rice formula. So I did this is the third bag (not of this size) it took her quite a few weeks actually quite a few months to fully get back to eating normal in fact she’s not there yet at first she would just nibble and then she started eating a little more and then got to where she was eating about half of her normal feast.

I know this is a long review my point is I can tell that it’s treating her better by the look of her poop and she doesn’t seem to do her stretching issues when she’s eating. Her shedding has got better and I will continue to feed it to her and I hope I continue to see improvements.

Please keep this product in stock that is one of the hard issues with this product. It’s very hard to find! I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family!.

My eight year old dachshund practically licked the bag as I was opening it! He enthusiastically ate all of it and he is a notoriously picky eater at least when it comes to dog food. Obviously, this is day one and we will see what happens down the road but I’m hoping this is a food he will enjoy eating.

I’ve tried many, many dog foods throughout his life and, outside of the more expensive and organic Fromm, Purina ProPlan is the only other food my dog has ever seemed to enjoy eating and done well on.

I like this particular One senior mix as it has the shredded pieces as well as small kibble which is definitely more appealing to him. We shall see! 3 stars for now only because I don’t know the long-term results.

Full disclosure, I tried to stick with Fromm and attempted to transition him over to a weight management adult food that he didn’t care for at all. I thought I would give this a try as he has liked Purina before and it would also be convenient to include in my regular Target shopping order.

A great approach towards kibble/dry dog food. My dogs absolutely love this food, and I’m thrilled they are receiving good quality ingredients in a very convenient form, and with some grains included.

I’ve always had issues over the years with “grain-free” foods causing recurrent digestive upset in my Mastiff and Bulldog breeds. I loved the grain-free clusters, but the constant need for digestive supplementation for my dogs was a nuisance.

I’ve had great results with settling my dogs’ tummies once I was able to switch over to this “grain-inclusive” cluster formula. The need for digestive supplements has stopped. YAY! This new grain inclusive formula lacks the wonderful, “turkey stuffing” smell, but it more than makes up for it in the gentleness on their stomachs, and ease of digestion.

Here’s the one caveat I have about all of the types of Clusters offered by THK thus far: they are FAR too high in calories. 422 kCalories per cup would be a common caloric need for adult, neutered/spayed dogs actively competing in field, hunting, or agility trials.

For the average spayed/neutered household pet (and especially bulldogs, mastiffs, pugs, etc. ) this is a very high calorie food. The concept many dog food manufacturers try to put forth that some foods are simply more nutrient dense and therefore dogs can be fed much less, without feeling hunger, is completely false (seriously, try feeding half-rations to a pampered bulldog or pug, and see how much sleep they will let you get).

The Honest Kitchen has been excellent with not making that, or any unfounded claims, but I truly wish they could lower the calories of their Clusters to the “approximate” industry average of 350 kcalories per cup for pet dog foods.

Perhaps a “diet” version – without chicken – of these wonderful grain-inclusive Clusters might be a consideration for THK in the future? Otherwise, I’m a true fan of THK products, and have all of my dogs’ food and treats on recurring orders.

WARNING!!! STAY AWAY FROM RACHEL RAY!!! First off, wtf does she know about dog food? Secondly. immediately no. Go ask your vet. They’ll tell you the same thing. RR pet food has been causing some MAJOR health problems and concerns for pets parents all around.

Cats and dogs. There are a ton of chemicals and additives and bad things that are not on the ingredients list found in the food. I was using this kibble for Mars, my 3yr old Chinese Shar Pei, and at first she was fine.

She seemed to like the beef better than the other flavors. But I would find that she would either be severely constipated or have the runs all day. I couldn’t figure out why. My mother is a holistic health coach and did some research and we added coconut oil and water more into her diet.

It helped a bit, but then she started shedding like crazy. And Shar Pei’s don’t shed a lot. So when I finally took her to see her vet, she asked me what her daily/average diet was. Once I mentioned RR, she immediately told me to change her food.

Long story short, her vet texted me some info on RR dog food and I changed her kibble. Almost a month later all that stopped. Her skin started clearing up, shedding like normal, no poop problems. STAY AWAY!!.

1st time trying this food after hearing positive things, it was a disaster for our dogs. Lethargic, curled up not feeling well, urgency to go outside and some not making it. Grass eating, drinking large amounts of water, needing to relieve themselves from it.

Overall something is off about the recipe. Our dogs have switched to other brands and have rarely experienced this kind of reaction to a new food. Initially they were hesitant to eat it dry and we added a bit of warm water to entice them to.

We have xl to tcup sized dogs and all reacted the same to it, very sickly. I would not recommend this food to anyone.

I have 5 Dobermans and 1 greyhound that require a well balanced, high quality food. I had been feeding Purina ONE SmartBlend True Instinct, but it became difficult to buy consistently and was frequently out of stock.

I tried 2 alternates and wasn’t satisfied with the results. I checked out the ingredients and nutritional values of Nutrish and compared them to others. I gradually switched them over as suggested and was very pleased with the results.

All my dogs LOVED it, even the more picky greyhound. Their coats are shiny, and the stools are firm. I highly recommend this for large dogs like mine.

We’ve had a bit of a nightmare with dog food recently – our Shepherd rescue mix puppy was loving the Canidae PURE Ancestral Raw-Coated Puppy Formula, Avian recipe until Canidae discontinued their raw-coated Ancestral line out of no where.

Figured if we stayed within the brand, some ingredients might be similar and might be less harsh on her tummy. Not the case at all. We switched her to Canidae PURE Grain-Free Limited Ingredient Real Chicken, Lentil & Whole Egg Dry Puppy Food (which is also about $20 cheaper, red flag) and the poor thing was SO gassy and barfy for weeks.

Yes, we gradually transitioned her over a few weeks and by the time she was eating only the new stuff she was a farting burping machine. Her poops were irregular, runny, gross. her poor tummy made crazy sounds.

My husband and I felt horrible for the dog. So I went deep into dog food research and decided to give this brand a try. Dog Food Advisor rated this “an exceptional food” and also gave this puppy food an AAFCO nutrient profile of “All Life Stages”, which is a bonus so we don’t have to rush to transition her again at 12-18 months to an adult food.

Upon opening the bag of the Nulo Freestyle Salmon & Turkey Large Breed Puppy food, I could immediately tell this was high-quality food. The color and texture of the kibble looked similar to the one she was originally on and loved.

It’s darker in color and seems a little more moist (in a good way) than the stuff that was making her sick, which was dry and crumbly and had a ton of crumbs at the bottom of the bag – like 3 cups of just crumbs.

when I emptied this Nulo bag into the container we store her food in, there was VERY minimal crumbs at the bottom. Good news is after the first few days of transitioning her to this, her stomach problems began to subside immediately.

now that she’s on this fully, her poops are back to regular and healthy looking. I’m relieved we found her something she loves and maker her feel great after eating.

My frenchie Brucie loves this stuff! It was very difficult finding him a food that he not only liked but was free of most chicken products; this bag only has chicken fat, no chicken or egg proteins. He has a pretty severe allergic reaction to a lot of food where chicken is one of the main ingredients.

Nulo Freestyle came highly recommended by a number of French bulldog owners and I couldn’t be happier with it. We tried Nulo MedalSeries Salmon and Sweet Potato recipe from the “other” pet store and, as it has chicken meal, Brucie did not respond well to it – went right back to the store.

It’s Freestyle from here on out now. Chewy is great and I love the speed of their shipping. I’m never going back to the other guys.

My 9 yr old Morkie was diagnosed with severe pancreatitis about 5 yrs ago. He’s been on canned Rx Low Fat i/d food every since. In Dec he started vomiting foamy bile in middle of night/early mornings.

After 2 wks of prilosec & no progress, vet put him on anti-nausea & probiotic powder for a week. He was fine, 2 days after the course finished, started vomiting again. Vet recommended trying a food with no chicken if he started to vomit again.

After reading all the reviews of this high quality ingredient food helping other dogs with pancreatitis, having probiotic in it & no chicken, I tried it. Louie loves the food & has not vomited for 4 days straight!!! I’m so grateful & relieved.

I was offered a free sample of Acana freeze-dried patties in exchange of my honest review. I was impressed about the quality of the ingredients of this product: 90% animal and 10% vegetarian source, of the best quality: organic and free-range.

The packaging is very functional, and lets you close it air-tight to preserve freshness. The product comes in ‘cookie’-size portions and the smell is “ok”. The texture is crumbly and I must say it makes it a bit messy because it crumbles.

My 4-year-old beagle tried it and liked it! -he is not that picky, I must confess- but I am happy it is a go because of the nutritional qualities and ingredient qualities that compose this product – that’s rare if you compare to all the products for dogs that are out there.

I like that you have different options to serve: either as a meal or as a meal-enhancer. I even tried it as a cookie (as in the video)! This product definitely blew my mind, it seems that this company really cares about our best friend’s health through providing a nutritious product.

I wished they made these type of health-conscious products for humans as well!.

I recently took my almost 10 year old rescue dog to the vet, and they recommended I try freeze dried food mixed in with her wet food. She was having issues chewing the hard dog food mix ins with her aging teeth, and would oftentimes just woof down the food without chewing, only to throw it up a short time later.

The vet said that with freeze dried food, it would be soft enough to give alone, or wet and add to her wet food for a soft addition to her meal time. The vet recommended this brand and said she uses it with her two senior dogs, and they loved it.

And, because it is made of 90 percent quality animal protein from ranch-raised beef and infused bone broth, I wouldn’t be scratching my head trying to understand the ingredients like other products. There were no dyes, artificial flavors or bi products I would have to worry about, that could cause stomach troubles with my dog.

We have been using the Freeze-Dried Food, Chicken Recipe, Morsels for a few weeks now and my dog loves it. I switch up at mealtime by sprinkling on the top of her food one day, and then mix with water to re-hydrate the next.

She loves it both ways, and no longer throws up like she did with the hard mix in food. She is able to chew and digest the Freeze-Dried Food, Chicken Recipe, Morsels with ease, and loves the taste. And, I am not smelling funky bad breath like I did with other dry dog foods we used to feed her.

I am so glad we made the switch and are feeding our dog Freeze-Dried Food, Chicken Recipe, Morsels from ACANA. And, I love recommending it after personally trying it with our dog to friends and family.

My beautiful little dog has kidney disease. Since last September, a year now, we have seen a specialist and tried at least 20 different dog foods, of course including food for renal disease. She sometimes goes for 2+ days not wishing to eat due to lack of apatite.

Out of desperation and hours searching on line for something for her, I found the Acana freeze dried turkey patties. We did have 3 different kinds of special canned food in fridge, + ground turkey, beef, and organic chicken.

I have been feeding Sojos for 15 years to my papillons. i havefed virtually every formula at various stages of their development from puppyhood to advanced seniors. I now have 4 seniors aged 11-17 years of age who all eat this formula twice a day.

A few observations about feeding. First, transition from kibble can require anywhere from 7 to 30 days depending on the previous food in the gut. Plan on a ten day transition where you add Sojos gradually each day in increments of teaspoons for small breeds under 10 pounds to tablespoons for large breeds.

Remember you are not just switching from one kibble to another. This may take a little more time for your dog to adjust. Second, be sure to rotate the bag before each meal to distribute the ingredients.

Read the feeding chart carefully so you do not accidentally feed twice the recommended amount based on weight as doing so will cause frequent stools. The chart has the daily recommended feeding…to be divided and fed twice a day.

Lastly, use hot tap water rather than cold or warm. After adding the water, cover and let soak for an hour on the counter. Never store in fridge for serving later. Never microwave to warm. My senior dogs continue to love their Sojos.

I started feeding my old girl Stella (Olde Bulldogge) Sojo’s when she was diagnosed with mast cell cancer. Not wanting to do too much invasive surgery, she was 12 yrs old at diagnosis, I read several recommendations for Sojos on websites like the RescueMe dog sanctuary website.

I do believe incorporating Sojos into Stella’s diet extended the length and quality of her life and helped her enjoy her final sunsets. Living in Minneapolis I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of Sojos as its only made 10 miles down river in St Paul.

They are set up right next to the stock yards along the Mississippi River in S. St Paul so they get fresh meat quickly and are able to freeze dry it for a perfect dog food: it’s like thanksgiving dinner in a mix.

Now 3 yrs later, my older (13 yrs) Pug eats mostly Sojos with a lil kibble for extra crunch and Stella’s protege, Elsie, gets a scoop in her kibble. They love it. They let me know about an hour before its time for breakfast and dinner, which can be a lil much.

Sure its expensive, but having been fortunate to have pugs and bulldogges –breeds not exactly well known for their great health– over the last 20+ yrs, I believe Sojo’s is prolly the healthiest dog food you can buy short of blending up a thanksgiving spread for them everyday.

Thought the price was better than another vets freeze-dried raw food. Marty. but neither brands double in size as reported in description. ”turns one pound dry into 5 pounds when water added”. My dog liked the food ok, but wouldn’t eat it dry.

think it said to feed dry or wet. And always followed directions and wet the food according to instructions & waited 15 minutes for dry to absorb the water and food amt. to double. Never doubled, so not such a good value for your money.

Told my vet about changing her diet. he doesn’t think those expensive freeze-dried raw foods are any better than buying a quality canned wet dog food like Paul Newman’s canned beef & chicken, adding to it a little canned string beans & health formula Purina dry food, in appropriate amounts for your size dog.

That’s what I’m feeding her now & she gobbles it up & is happy.

After literally reading every ingredient and nutritional info on the dog foods available in chewy ( which is overwhelming) it was this brand of dog food the one that met my flavor/nutritional/ingredients expectations and budget.

In addition to this, what I like about this food is it’s shape, size, consitency (not to hard/soft), it’s baked and that all three of my distinctively finicky boys (2 cottons/ 1 havanese) liked it. I had to change their diet because the food I was feeding them made one of my boys scary sick of his stomach right when I had just bought some more.

Chewy customer service and policies are beyond pet parent and animal friendly. I cannot inmagine not having chewy around. Thank you. In sum, this food is excellent, chewy is the best and my boys and I highly approve.

My very finicky dogs love this high quality kibble. I can even use it for treats, they love it. No meat meal, no by-products, well balanced, good for all stages of life. I highly recommend!

My chihuahua swallows food whole if it’s not the perfect size. I liked this food because it is baked and the company seems to truly care about animals. He actually chews this food. Not too big or too small.

I have not tried the small bites because I figured they would be swallowed whole. I wish they had samples. I also wish they had a beef blend. It is expensive but your furry friend should have a quality food.

The dog food is ok in case you need to feed your dog , food in a can. I cook for my dog because 3 of my dogs had cancer. I bought $208. 00 worth of food because I’m having surgery. Packaging was very sloppily packed and 14 cans were dented.

They did give me some credit for the first shipment, but I havnt heard from them for the second shipment of dented cans.

Premium Dog Food Turkey + Brown Rice I tried this for the first time because I couldn’t find my normal dog food. It was a great substitution for my regular food. My little chihuahua loved it. It’s hard to find dog food without chicken in it.

I definitely would buy this brand again and recommend it to other dog owners.

I feel great about buying this brand for our dog, Callie. Our family try’s to eat as much organic foods as possible and that includes our pets. I love that Newman’s Own is a product with quality organic ingredients and that they use 100% of the profits towards charitable organizations including the training of elite German Shepherd guide dogs for the blind.

This dog food is wonderful. I have a small ten year old Maltese / Carin Terrier mix veggie boy who loves to eat. Typically I alternate with dry food in the morning, and wet food in the evening, each with additional ingredients on top like fresh carrots, peas, potatoes or pasta.

He usually will eat his food once he is satisfied that he isn’t getting anything else from my plate when I’m eating. However, when I put the bowl of Freely down, he sniffed it and instantly began to devour it.

I didn’t even have to put any veggies on top to lure him in. The consistency of the food is ideal too; not too wet and not to try, making it very easy to mash up with a spoon. You can see the peas in it too, and I am satisfied with all of the ingredients.

All in all, Freely is 100% dog and dog dad approved.

I’ve had my puppy since January and literally have tried everything from medication, very expensive vet prescribed food, vitamins and probiotics to help with his gastrointestinal issues. Literally 6 months of getting woken up multiple times in the middle of the night due to my dog’s stomach issues.

I found out he was allergic to chicken and then was on the search for chicken free food, which is EXTREMELY hard to come by. Even food that is labeled “chicken free” has some sort of chicken product.

I was so tired and obviously did not want to take any chances with switching him to food that might not help. He also is prone to forming kidney stones (yay for Dalmatian puppies!!!) so there are quite a bit of ingredients that I needed to be on the look out for.

After doing HOURS of research (and not being able to afford to feed him raw at the moment) I finally came across freely that had everything I was looking for. Since then, no more midnight – 3 am potty breaks or accidents in the house! The only thing I wish is that they made a couple different flavor options (maybe like duck with all the same/limited ingredients) because my puppy isn’t crazy about this flavor like other foods that he’s tried, but honestly I can’t complain since he is finally on a regular bathroom schedule and I’m back to sleeping through the night.

Ok so I bought this on 4/20 and I opened it last month because she had other dry food it even has its own seal. Seal inside of a seal. I keep her food in a food storage thingy. She quit eating it two weeks in.

Wouldnt touch it. I kept it for backup and I’m finally like ok Im gonna pitch this stuff. I pick it up and its leaking yellowish liquid. Like whhhhhhat?? Sealed bag no holes or pokes. So ,I cut it open because im like theres no way this liquid is coming from dry kibble.

I cut it open and for sure it was all in the bottom and with wet kibble. She noticed it before me obv but what is going on here? Condensation? Evaporation? I took pictures of the bar code in case because the last couple of orders have been kinda a miss.

I bought a large bag of Evolve dry dog food which was delivered on 1/31/22. I already had two smaller bags of Evolve kibble and this larger bag was intended to be used when the smaller bags were finished.

I checked the sell by date on the new large bag and it expires 4/22. I was very disappointed that my new purchase expires before the two previous bags. No way will my dog finish the large bag in two months.

Chewy, you can do better than this.

When this came today, opened it then had to stop food fights!! All my toy poodles loved it, and two of the five are very picky. I have NEVER had this reaction to any dog food that I have ever purchased!! Then there are the standard poodle pups that wanted it too, instead of their regular large breed puppy food.

Will be keeping standards on regular puppy till they are older, as it was recommended by vet. So pleased. Will continue with this and see how it effects tearing for them, so glad that it is made from US and Canada products also.

Recently I had to switch my senior dogs food due to unavailability in prior brand. We originally switched to the evolve senior deboned chicken but that has since become discontinued so I tried the turkey variety and my super picky chihuahua gobbles it right up.

I love the pure ingredients you use and can’t beat the price. As long as my dog eats it I will keep buying it.

We switched to Open Farm because of the high quality and variety of proteins available. The puppy brand that the breeder recommended came in only one flavour, so when we thought the time was right we slowly integrated Open Farm.

The transition was seamless. No problems. We contacted Open Farm for something and they were extremely fast at getting back to us. Very friendly too. Hana would highly recommend Open Farm to others.

Charlie is a very picky eater, and we recently switched to the Open Farms Grass-Fed Beef recipe after he stopped eating his last brand of kibble. I chose Open Farms because the recipes are all sustainably sourced, and wow Charlie LOVES his food again! I’ve never seen him so eager to eat! He’s also become more energetic and playful, adding pep to this senior’s pup’s step! We are so happy!.

My dog is a rescue – maybe part shepherd,retriever, rottweiler. I research pet food periodically, and I was giving him Blue Buffalo, and he liked it. I heard about open farm (I don’t eat beef or pork because I think pigs and cows make great pets, but I understand dogs and cats are carnivores).

How these animals are raised and slaughtered is extremely important to me, and Open Farm is something I can live with. That being said, when the box with Open Farm is delivered, and I bring it into the house, Kenai goes absolutely giddy.

He loves all flavors, although I have to say, the whitefish has a fairly strong odor. He eats it eagerly, and the cats started looking interested, so I buy the cat stuff for them, too. More expensive than many brands, but the sustainability and humane treatment is everything to me.

The taste is everything to Kenai, and he gives it 5 stars.

My Boxer is allergic to all but salmon, whitefish, cod, herring and lamb. He will not eat most premium dog foods. I choose brands that only have top notch limited ingredients. We have tried the best.

I add premium toppers to coax him to eat; It has become a struggle. The topper rotation gets tiresome to him. After reading the ingredients I ordered a small bag of Zeal Canada Salmon to use as training treats.

I offered some to my dog, he went completely BONKERS over this food!! That night I offered it for dinner and he devoured his bowl in minutes! No coaxing, no toppers! Never, ever has he done this!! Sadly, Zeal Canada is much more $$ than other premium foods.

I truly wish it cost less, at least comparable to other top notch limited ingredients dog foods, so that I can feed as a twice daily meal. Especially pertaining to medium and large breeds dogs, at the current price per bag and per meal, it is only cost effective as a training treat.

I love air dried food as training treats and kibble topper for my dogs and I’ve tried many brands. These meet my expectations as far as size, and texture but holy moly do these have a “fragrance!” They actually made my roommate gag! No other air dried food I’ve tried smells this bad.

I figured the stinkier the better for training but my dogs seem to only like these treats, where they obsess over other brands. I would buy these again but I would try a different flavor and I not dare keep them in my treat pouch, in the car, or take to a friend’s house.

I can only use them when soap and water is nearby.

My dog loves the beef flavor. To those that doubt it’s real meat, eat a piece. It tastes like rotting beef jerky with marrow. The texture feels like dried beef. I can assure you it’s real meat. Haven’t you read reviews saying it stinks bad? Why does it smell so bad you ask? Because it’s a dead animal in a bag.

That means yup, you got it. It’s real meat. Also don’t store the food in a treat jar. The bag they use is specifically for the food. If one must use something other than it’s own bag, buy a Vittles Vault.

Received my can of Orijen dog food and decided to wait to give it to my pup Charlie as a treat. She usually doesn’t eat wet dog food, she’s a kibble girl! I opened the can and her ears perked up, I called her name and she came into the kitchen.

I put half the can into her food dish and put it down in front of her. She’s only ever had canned food once before, so when she sniffed it, her tail started wagging super fast and she was “dancing” on the tile.

When she calmed down enough to take a bite, I noticed she had pee’d a little, that’s how excited she was! LOL Her second bite must have been the bite that won her over. She proceeded to eat the whole dish of food and looked around for more.

( I was saving the second half as I wanted to make sure the food agreed with her) She absolutely loved it! an Hour later, I gave her the rest of the can and she ate it all up. For the rest of the day and into the night, She was so happy.

I took the can to the vets the next day ( she had to go for her vaccines) and I asked his opinion on giving dogs canned food on a regular basis. He said it would be okay for her if I gave her half a can a day to compliment her kibble.

So I went to the pet store and bought a bunch or Orijen Dog food and now my Charlie is one happy pupster!.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to snap any pictures before bear (my 5yr old auggie) devoured this food! While I was shocked at how abundant the aroma of this food was (it was very robust) bear was relishing in it.

She knew she was in for a tastey treat. I couldn’t get her bowl down fast enough! She wolfed into that dish and had it gone within a lick!. Over all the texture was pleasant and pleasing to bear. The smell I could’ve done without but she enjoyed it.

Bear gives 2 paws up. I would definitely buy this food for her. I liked the natural healthy ingredients and the benefits it would provide to her. As well as it didnt appear to have any negative effects on her stomach and digestion like other soft foods have in the past.

Upon opening this can of chicken, turkey and eggs Orijen canned dog food, I was happy to see Dixie’s eyes get wide as soon as she could smell it. She knew she was in for a treat and was anxious for it.

I have to say, it did smell really good, just like a homemade stew. It looked like a stew also. I mixed it in with her regular dry food and she was quite eager to finish it up. I like that it has real ingredients that is a must for our baby.

The only thing I didn’t like is the recommendation on the label describing how much you should feed per day for her weight. According to the label, we would need to feed her at least eight cans a day which we thought was way too much food for her.

I’m sure she would eat it but we don’t want her overweight either.

My corgi got a sample of the Purina Dog Chow High Protein Hearty Stew. It was the beef and vegetable flavor, which is a favorite flavor. There was only one can so I had to split it into two meals for my furbaby to try.

It had minimal odor and was consumed immediately. She enjoyed the food since she isn’t too picky. unless it’s certain fresh fruits and vegetables. The next day her bathroom breaks were abnormal (stinky and very soft), but that’s usually the case when I introduce something new into her diet.

After it exited her system, she bounced right back after returning to her normal kibble diet. I will consider purchasing this in the future. *I received a complimentary sample from Influenster in exchange for an honest review.

I received a can of this, Dog Chow Hearty Stews With Real Turkey Vegetables In Savory Gravy, for free, to try and review. My dog absolutely loves this. I wasn’t even able to get the entire can in the bowl before he started coming at it.

It was gone just as fast. You would think that he fell in love with us all over again, Knowing where the cans are at he will go over and nudge the area. There was not an overpowering smell, however there is a slight odour.

Since receiving our sample we have bought quite a few more cans. When I 1st opened the can and started to scoop it out, I realised the meaty chunks in this were amazing. I’m actually kind of jealous, why can’t our canned soups and stews have this much meat in it!! I definitely recommend this product.

Warning: this is kind of sad. My dog has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we’ve had to change up her diet a bit. This has been an excellent addition to it. Since she’s been eating less we’ve had a hard time getting her the protein that she needs and this sample came at exactly the right time.

She chowed down on it immediately. It really does look like a stew rather than the classic ground up wet dog food. She loves the flavor and we love knowing that she’s getting what she needs in her diet.

She’s a large dog, an 85 pound Malinois, and protein is so important to her diet. We immediately bought a palette of this food and she’s looking forward to mealtimes again.
