20 Best Turkey Pot Calls (2022 Updated)

This pot call sounds great. From the clucks and purrs to the yelp. Can get nice and quiet as well as reach out and get the perfect amount of loud. Looking forward to putting it to work out in the woods.

Being new to turkey hunting (not hunting) I was informed a striker call like this would be a good learning point. Upon arrival, I opened the package and followed directions for using (including online reviews recommending to prep the slate and the striker).

I messed with this thing for over an hour and could only get a few horrible sounds. I figured, maybe because I was still new at this, I was having trouble learning. So, I took this to someone who is a very experienced turkey hunter, and he also had trouble getting this to produce any sounds.

He got a few sounds, but none worth anything. He gave me his friction call to try, and I had no problem at all using his (not sure what his was off top of my head). I stopped by another store a week before the hunt, and picked up a Primos box call.

I chalked the box up, and was producing awesome turkey sounds within a few minutes. This slate call is a lesson learned and money wasted. Not worth shipping back for a refund.

From reading other reviews, apparently the issue I’m having with the call relates to the striker. I have turkey hunted all my life and used several slate calls, all of which have worked well. Last season I lost my “favorite” slate call while hunting, therefore, I purchased the Ol’ Betsy at Cabela’s.

I have yet to get any sound out of the call, let alone one that sounds like a turkey. More like fingernails on a chalkboard!! Again, I have used Primo’s slate calls in the past and they have worked great.

However, I refuse to purchase a different striker in order to use this call. I will return it and purchase one that provides a working striker.

I experienced the same problem with the striker as another customer. It did not function at all. I inspected the striker and found that wooden end was not glued properly and was actually loose in the plastic end.

I removed the wooden end and applied glue to both the plastic and wooden parts then reassembled the components and let them dry. The striker functioned normally. Hopefully the MFG. will improve process controls to eliminate this condition.

I bought this call two days before my hunt. With only a little practice I was able to make the call sound to what I would call a acceptable hen. The first time I used it on the spring archery hunt, a gobbler responded.

Now for the next half hour the old gobbler and I carried on a conversation. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to call the “old boy” in but just the thrill of using the call and hearing the tom answer made it a memorable hunt.

I now have a whole year to work on my calling and stacking skills. I would recommend the power crystal pot call for a beginner or seasoned hunter.

It was not even packed !!! In envelope broken didnt even open the package… can tell its broken !!!!!! Wanted it for turkey season !

I’ve tried several types of slate calls and this call is by far the best. It has the most realistic pitch and ease to yelp, purr, cluck and cut. I personally favor the glass type to carry sound farther and not be affected by rain or sweat compared to slate.

This is worth the investment to put yourself in the best odds.

I use pot calls almost exclusively (occasionally a box call). I have generally preferred slate, have also killed many toms over aluminum. My experience with crystal was hit or miss. As soon as I hit a note with this call (Cherry Crystal) I noticed it was different.

This call sounds as close to real life hens as I have ever heard from a call. I frequently have hens around me in deer (bow) season here in Mi. I listen and learn. This call can mimic those sounds with ease.

In particular, the purrs and clucks are perfect. Whether you can afford this call is an individual decision. I myself couldn’t without the gift cards/sale/club points, so I understand that. That said, this call sounds as close to the real thing as I have heard in 19 years of turkey hunting / calling.

I just recently purchased this call. It is my first Woodhaven pot call. As soon as it arrived I got it out to see how it would run. Of all my calls, this one is certainly one of the easiest to use that I own.

Great volume and great pitch. Runs smooth with little effort. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to my friends. Very impressed.

One of the best sounding calls I own very easy to use with a wide range of sound being able to call both soft and loud. Both strikers add there own unique sound to the call. This will be my only friction call I carry in the woods.

A+ Woodhaven.

I have used a lot of different pot type calls over the years and they are my go to call. All of the ones I have bought have been the cheaper mass produced type call, both glass and slate. I figured I would finally try one of the higher priced calls, thinking they had to be better.

I was wrong. I got the Woodhaven Legend in slate and it doesn’t sound any better than the cheap ones that are $50 cheaper. The strikers that came with it sound terrible. After some experimentation I have found a one piece Primos striker that sounds decent, but still not what I expected for the money.

I bought this call to try out, I’ve never spent this kind of money on a call. I am very impressed with the sound and the ease of use. The sounds this slate produces are top quality in my opinion. I can not wait to try it out in the field this spring.

PS the quality and detail of the Line 1 turkey call are unlike any other call I’ve possessed.

Cannot take directly to the field, as it’s newly manufactured and VOCs are coming off. Let it breathe 2 weeks and it’s good. After scratching the crystal (the kit is complete with stone, etc), the pot sings nicely and easily.

Is it 4x too expensive? Definitely. Was I interested in supporting MeatEater and the hand craft and story behind an heirloom piece? Yes. It’s exactly what I wanted and what I expected and I’m very pleased.

I never mind spending a little extra for something I intend to keep and pass along.

Pros: It’s a very good looking call. If it was billed as just a collectors item i wouldn’t have a problem with it. Cons: This call sounds terrible. There is no rasp. Its hard to describe the sound as anything other than “flat.

” I thought maybe it was just me but callers who are far more experienced produced similar results. For $300 they should have attached the conditioning stone to a handle, small gripe but still. I doubt this will see time in the field.

I have shot a lot of this ammunition along with family members and in competition. This is a great range/competition (USPSA minor) ammunition that shoots and does not jam. I have had upside down primers on another brand of competing ammo, but never with the Winchester White box.

Just can’t say enough good about this ammo.

Although we have used Winchester white box for decades as our paper-punching rounds, suddenly we’re having trouble with fail to feed, on both a brand new Springfield 10mm (180 gr FMJ) and a venerable Glock 22, which has never malfunctioned, but now won’t accept the 165 gr FMJ.

Both rounds are flat nosed, and both get partway into the chamber and wedge themselves, halfway up the ramp. I can’t say for certain it’s the ammo, but one brand new and one well-worn in handgun suddenly won’t feed a single magazine without multiple FTF.

We’re looking for alternate manufacturers.

This ammo works great in my Beretta Cougar. I don’t understand most of the 5 Star reviews as they all refer to this as 9MM NATO which it is NOT! 9MM NATO is physically a 9mm, (NOT a. 380) with an overpressure load (by SAMMI standards) and should only be used in modern, robust weapons.

This. 380 ammo is standard loading, reliable, feeds well in my Beretta, and consistently shoots good groups. If you are having issues with your. 380 feeding these rounds I recommend you clean the feed ramp and possibly use a Dremel and some rouge to polish the ramp.

This is great ammo.

I purchased this Zink call based primarily on the performance of my Zink Crystal call. While the crystal call seems to be best for longer-distance calling, this slate call has a little softer tone. I believe it will be excellent for calling birds that are closer to my set-up.

It has a softer tone, but still breaks over. I can’t wait to use it on the first day of WV spring gobbler season. Overall, the quality the Zink products I have used is excellent, from their calls to the realism and quality of their decoys.

They are well worth the price.

I am not happy with this call at. It takes a lot of maintenance continues sanding to maintain any sound also it is not waterproof a couple of drops water and it would not work. I have been Turkey hunting for over forty years and have used much cheaper calls with a better call quality.

Definitely not worth the money.

Crisp, clear higher pitch tones. Great for close birds and soft purring, clucking, and yelping. Easy to use. Did not hold up in light drizzle as expected. Crystal or glass should outperform slate in those conditions, but found this one to be no better than slate.

Personal preference is a pot with multiple tone capability. this one is consistently high pitch tones.

Personally I will never use another turkey mouth call after going back to a double reed system, you get the realistic cuts and yelps and purrs from the true double. Easy to operate and hardly need to use any diaphragm air to get it yelping.

I love this call. It is easy to use and has a very raspy tone. In the past two turkey seasons however the calls do not seem to last as long as they have in the past. The reeds are not as tight as they use to be.

Is it the cause, I don’t know. And they are $3. 00 to $4. 00 more expensive as similar calls from other manufactures. It use to be my go to call. When they are working and not breaking down they are great.

It had its place in my turkey call arsenal. After I matched it with a Purple Heart striker it gave it a much cleaner higher pitched yep.

It takes a good shake to make the gobble, but sounds pretty realistic (compared to online sound clips of turkeys). So far, it doesn’t seem to attract any of the many turkeys who come out of my woods, but that could just be operator error.

The reviews from actual hunters were good on this one. (Now go ahead and click ‘not helpful. ‘).

I never had one of these calls before. So I figured I would purchase one and give it a try. Primos calls have a great reputation for being good calls!

Simple to use. Highly effective. I’ve had one for nearly 30 years. This is a gift for a friend just getting into turkey hunting. Need to start them out right!

I bought three of these identical diaphragm calls. I have a fair amount of experience using mouth calls. Two of the three I could not get to make proper sounds. One would only squeak, one would produce decent sounds and one sounded like it was muffled.

I’m not sure what the issue was, but I won’t be buying any more of them.

Best mouth calls ever invented. Hate to see Primos discontinuing this one, I only hope and wish that Primos would rethink their decision on this

This call sounds sooooo good. Get one!!!!!!!!

Great sounding call, havent used it in the field yet, but it sounds good on the back deck. Has a louder sound than slate but not as lound as glass I like the striker conditioning pad on the back its really convenient.

Cant wait to get out there this spring and call them in.

Inaccurate description and striker provided by cabelas. It didn’t sound that good. Returned for another call that sounds much better.

This is one of best calls, I have purchase all of their calls and have used them in the rain, snow, and heat and they are all excellent. The Glass call is very easy to use and has the range of pitch of many different hen turkeys and the volume can be soft or very loud.

The sticks that come with it cannot be beat. I have used them for the last 3 years and have stopped using all of my other calls. Worth the price!!!!.

The slate isnt as sharp as the glass. But when used in conjunction with the glass its even deadlier. It produces some of the softest calls when you dont the volume of the other surfaces. This is my favorite call to use all the time anytime im in the Turkey Woods.

Custom Call sound at an affordable price.

Wow! I bought this box call for a few reason; 1- I want my sons to get into calling and a box call is easy for beginners to make a full range in sounds with minimal skill needed. 2- I’m into things that are well made & that last, and 3- I suck at using diaphragms because I was born with a tiny, tiny mouth.

tiny! First touch, I was EXTREMELY impressed with the quality, look and feel of this call. It’s red & brown wood color with turkey feather design are artfully crafted and inviting to the touch. I can see this thing sitting out on a shelf in my house year-round when not in use.

The box itself is constructed with thought and care. The outermost groove and writing on the pot adds a little added texted for a positive grip, while all the sharpest edges and corners have been removed to make it virtually snag free going in and out of pockets.

The sounds this box can make are OUTSTANDING! You can make soft gentle sounds or loud aggressive sounds at will. I was a little shocked at how well my boys were able to make yelps, cuts and clucks without my help.

They already fight over it to see who can make the most range in sounds before handing off the each other. I can see I’m going to need to buy a second one! I would HIGHLY recommend this call to anyone that likes turkeys, woodworking, teaching or is looking for a perfect gift for outdoor enthusiasts! The first call i received was damaged. I called and a replacement call was sent immediately however, comparing the sound quality compared to a Woodhaven Real Hen through all the various turkey vocalizations, the Woodhaven Real Hen wins hands down! Also the paddle needs to be a little longer to keep you finger tips from hitting he box when running the call.

I gave the call 3 stars however 2 stars would be more appropriate. I also bought several Phelps mouth calls which I consider expensive and I am hopeful they sound a lot better than the box call. Walter Premru.

Beautifully designed box call. Sounds great right out of the box. It has a nice variance to the sound it can produce. You are able to reach out and locate nicely with the call. Can’t wait to get out in the woods and get to working on a nice Tom.

I bought this for locating and doing fly down cackles. The yelps, cuts, clucks and purrs all sound great. It will do both soft and raspy yelps. Just grip the box tight for soft yelps, and grip loosely for raspy yelps.

Highly recommend it! Another great primos call.

First time out might be hard to believe however we had been setup for about 20 minutes and he calls up 5 gobblers ,great call.

I like the size and tone of this call. Very easy to operate especially if you watch some Primos videos on youtube.

nice loud raspy sound. opening day on public land. some guy walking around making owl hoots that sounded exactly like a guy making owl hoots maybe he’ll be wore out and hopefully not show in the morning.

These are the absolute best calls I have ever used. They are the small mouth calls and I finally have diaghram mouth calls that fit my mouth properly. I usually get the full size and try to trim them to fit but it never seems to fit quite right.

These fit great rightbout of the package and have great reads and produce great sound! My go to mouth calls!.

i purchased the Woodhaven red wasp after trying many other calls even Zink mouth call and it’s ok but the Red Wasp WoodHaven mouth call is awsome sounds great and easy to use worth the money

My dad bought his first one in the 1960s. This call has called in so many toms it’s impossible to count. He was a hardcore turkey hunter in Missouri and eventually other states and loved this box call.

In 2011 It unfortunately was victim of a flood at my home. I bought my son one recently. The quality seems the same and I hope he has the luck with it that my dad and I did for all those years.

I’ve had mine 42 years. Still sounds as good today as it did new. Calld in countless Toms.
