20 Best Turtlenecks For Layering (2022 Updated)

Y’all, when I first got these last year I fell in love instantly with the comfort, quality and durability. And to see they’ve returned yet another season has made my day! They are perfect for work, running errands, autumn/winter date night and while relaxing around at home, etc.

And did I mention how happy the TALL version makes me? They aren’t too clingy but definitely conforming to one’s curves so if that’s an issue, perhaps size up! Super cute with jeans, chinos & moccasins, flats, ankle boots, etc.

I have to have all colors. Old Navy please keep them on seasonal inventory rotation like FOREVER!! ((Highly recommended turtleneck for sure)).

I really like this turtle neck! The color selection is beautiful. I did not hesitate to choose a Petite Medium, since I am, and the result was a perfect fit. Textile-wise, it is a little thin, but the way I like it.

It is curve-hugging and tuckable. I will wear this turtleneck as a light sweater to wear with a light jacket or a cardigan.

The midweight turtleneck is very comfortable to wear around the house while doing chores, short walks, lounging, and even sleeping. I ordered a large as I have broad shoulders, a wide chest area, and large biceps/triceps, and this turtleneck fit perfectly around my arms.

It is also slimming, but not constricting. This is a nice layer to have under coat, bulky sweaters, and t-shirts.

Form fitting without being to tight. Not bulky. The neck is not tight either. I wear a size xsmall can’t believed it fit nicely most companies I have to order an xxsmall, because an xsmall is still too big.

I am 101lb 5’1. Their xsmall is actually an xsmall and not a medium. Will order from this company again.

They run a little big, IMO, but I also have a tiny supermodel pup who has a LONG body but is super petite! I had initially gotten the medium as I do in every coat so they’re long enough (I typically have to alter them to fit around her because she’s tiny!), but the medium was HUGE on her.

I did the free trade for a small and it fits her perfectly!! Super happy customer!.

I have been buying Three Dots Ribbed Turtleneck’s since they came out. They used to be fantastic, when they were made in USA. The past three years have gotten worse and worse. The color is no longer true white.

This batch has a slightly red tint to them. Looks like someone threw them in the washer with a brand new pair of red jeans. This was my go to. I used to order six every Fall. Now, I’m looking for a new go to.

I can’t even.

I ordered two in black. I have black ones from the previous years which I’ve worn. The new ones in black are less dark than my old ones. Also, the three dots label is sewn on rather than imprinted on.

There’s been in a change in color, for sure.

I purchased a black top with these tops. It is not constricted, non-irritated, and a soft fabric. I ordered a large, which is my normal size, and it fits exact, not tight or too fitting. I am happy with my purchase.

I have thermaskin underwear that I wear as pajamas in the winter. I bought these at least five years ago. since then, when I try to order the same items, they are very different. They are cold to the touchy and cold to put on.

The original thermaskins that I have have a very light, soft, warm lining that feels good and comfortable without layering anything over it. All of your other products do not have this lining. It’s hard to describe.

Maybe it’s just the way the fabric is woven, or the materials that are in it. The turtleneck I am wearing right now is loose and casual and comfortable around my neck. The one I ordered and returned, was so tight it was uncomfortable.

I just wish I had ordered 3 sets of the thermaskin about 6 years ago so that I would have enough to last me for a long time. These thermaskins might be warm for skiing, but I don’t want them for that.

I just want them for sleeping, and they’re ok, once I’m under the covers, but they do not provide what the originals do before I get under the covers. They feel cold and too thin to provide the warmth I’m used to from the originals.

My daughter feels the same way. She wears them for pjs, and she feels the difference in the past two or three years.

Ordered 5 colors. Love all of them. Was worried fabric might be lighter than I wanted based on other review but I find them to be a good cotton weight. With a sweater they are quite comfy warm. They are 100% cotton.

I wish they were slightly shorter as I tuck them into my slack so there is more material than the alternative. I know shorter designs exist but I didn’t take the time to try to find them as I liked the color options.

They were packaged well and arrived in one shipment. Seams well constructed. Once I knew they fit properly I tossed them into a cold, gentle wash then short spin in dryer finished with line drying. Before drying I inspected all and one (Soft Iris) had weird discoloration in several spots that I thought might result in returning but once it dried those spots (almost like the dye had washed out) went away so I’ll keep it.

Have warn two so far and looking forward to wearing the rest. I ordered mine on 11/19. Had I waited today I could have saved $15. My bad. I’m 5′ 5″ tall and weigh 130 lbs and medium fits perfectly. Colors purchased true to picture.

Ordered Thermaskin long sleeve turtleneck size 2X burnt caramel leopard print. Returned it because it is skin tight and the neck is also uncomfortably tight. I have 3 Thermaskin long underwear long sleeve crew necks in size 2X (from Fall 2018).

They all fit beautifully. This inconsistency in sizing from year to year, between styles and even between different colors of the same style is a major reason I rarely order from Lands’ End any more.

As noted by numerous commenters, Lands’ End quality is not what it used to be. The fabric of the 2018 feels wonderfully silky and the construction is superior with cuffs on the sleeves. The sleeve and hem stitching on the current version is visible on the outside.

It looks cheap; especially on the burnt caramel leopard where the thread color doesn’t match any color in the fabric. I am comfortable wearing my 2018 Thermaskins as outerwear. A request to commenters: please include your weight and the size ordered.

‘True to size’, for example, is meaningless without that information. Color ordered would be helpful too.

I suggest one modification that I believe would make this an excellent item-make raglan type attachment for sleeves. The inset sleeves keep the sweater from a great fit. (Got a 1/4pull over for my wife and I would make the same comments on that as with mine.

) Other than that, this sweater is very nice. Body length is good for wearing out or tucked in pants. Sleeves long enough so they don’t ride up. Neck hasn’t flopped down yet and not too tight. Rich dark heather green is nice.

And the wool is very soft. No itch here. Thanks I’m 5’11”, 196 lbs, 44” chest and 39” waist and the XL fits fine.

Nobody wears turtlenecks anymore, and I’ve never understood why. Easy money the best turtlenecks on the market, the wool is super comfortable, not even the tiniest bit scratchy. It has a better feel than even brand new polyester sheets, and will last much longer too.

Warmth is exactly what you’d expect given the intermediate weight of the fabric. I get lots of compliments on these from my coworkers, especially given that in the covid age of zoom calls, the only fashion choices that matter are from the shoulder and up, and trust me, a turtleneck is quite a statement.

To sum up, they’re an ever-fashionable, well constructed, high quality mid layer that will have you warm on the slopes, in the mountains, or on morning walks, while also having you looking svelte and sophisticated on the patio at (insert your favorite local yuppie bar or brewery’s name here).

Very good product, glad Minus33 is still making a wool turtleneck as they are hard to find. My only complaint is that the neck itself needs to have some elastic added to keep it tight against the neck as it tends to sag a bit, allowing wind down the neck.

Otherwise an excellent product, very warm and comfortable!.

This is my second one of these. I can’t usually wear turtlenecks because I can’t stand anything gripping my neck. However, this one does not do that. It’s also flattering on and the fabric is very soft.

I do wish that these fitted tops that look best tucked in were not so long. There is a lot of fabric to have to tuck in!.

This is the absolute softest turtleneck that I’ve ever owned. I have it now in 3 colors I love that the neck is not too tight, yet it stays up without slouching down! The material is thin, but warm. Gives you a beautiful silhouette.

The 2 that I bought were not up to the quality I anticipated at all. Unfortunately, I took both of them on a quick trip and was terribly disappointed in the quality and shaping of these sweaters by Karen Kane.

They do not hang well and are not a quality material at all. Too thin! I couldn’t return them as I had worn them on the trip because I hadn’t any other turtlenecks with me. Ugh.

I really like this sweater. The fiber content and feel makes it just shy of perfect to me. Whatever wool that is used in the 10% wool of this sweater’s makeup is rather itchy and uncomfortable. If you have sensitive skin I would try it on in person before buying if possible.

Other than that, I love the construction and design of it. It’s a very pretty sweater. I’m 5’3″ and typically wear a size xs at Marine Layer. This sweater fit like other xs small sweaters I’ve bought from them.

I debated buying this sweater for a couple of days – I loved its style, really liked the color, but was worried that it would be a little short on me. I’m 5’7” and 125lbs, but I have a long torso and a bit of a mom pooch.

I decided to pull the trigger and I’m so glad I did! I love this sweater and feel so confident when wearing it. I’ve only washed it once, but it held its shape and looks as good as it did new. Totally worth it!!.

Fits well. I am 5’5 about 120 lbs and the small fits nicely with plenty of room. I don’t love the neck because it’s a funny height. Comes up a little higher than a mock turtleneck. But I like the look of the sweater overall, and the weight of it, so I’ll live with a slightly awkward neck.

A classic black turtleneck never goes out of style! I got one in navy as well. With the rayon, this one is a little dressier than a cotton one would be, but still great for every day. It’s soft, not itchy, not too thick and not too body con, it skims over the midsection.

I’m 5’4 with a 36 B bustline. The medium, the size I usually wear, (sometimes small) fit well overall. The problem is that I felt the neck was a little high and tight. It came up to right under my chin and didn’t leave any neck space/skin showing like it shows in the picture.

Just fyi. Maybe not a big deal to some, but it made me feel like I was choking a little, wanting to pull it away from my neck. Plus I don’t really have a double chin, but the tightness.

This turtleneck is a true turtleneck. I do not like mock turtlenecks. It is the perfect weight to keep you warm and not too heavy under a jacket or heavier sweater. I have this top in all the colors it came in and wear them all winter long.

The Chico Ecovero Turtlenecks are great wardrobe staples, and you’ll want to buy them in all the impressive array of fall and winter colors. They run true to size, so I bought my regular size 3 in the deep chianti and the camel heather.

and will definiitely be going back for more colors. They’re soft and silky, but warm and comfortable. the neck fits close, but not binding or chocking. What’s more, they are excellent for layering with your favorite boyfriend blazer, cardigan, or denim jacket.

I bought this turtleneck to wear this fall/winter. It is a beautiful dark charcoal gray that is so very soft and comfortable to wear. They launder nicely and last for a long time. I have several colors in the Chico turtlenecks and buy a couple every year when they come out.

Fit very true to size and doesn’t shrink when laundered. Highly recommend!.

Bought this in the berry/rust color with the matching small-print pants for an upcoming fall trip to cooler climates! Love the button detailing and the easy stretch of the soft fabric. Just body-hugging enough.

I ordered this turtleneck in a size medium and it was way to big. It fit like a size extra large on me. I normally wear between a large or a medium depending on the matrial and its stretch. My bust is a size 39 so I thought the medium would have been a perfect snug fit, but it was not.

I also noticed this turtleneck was not as thick and the quality of it was much different from the same turtlenecks I;ve purchased in the past from NY&Company. It was too much of a hassel to return it since I purchased it on sale.

I figured it may shrink to fit once I washed and dried it but it didn’t. I do like the turtleneck despite the fit. Imay just order another in a small.

Fits well, looks great, and is cozy. The first time I wore it the weather was being temperamental, went from almost 80 F down to 60 F in a day. Wore it to keep myself warm and it’s doing great. I ordered an XS since I am 105lbs and 5’1.

Fits great! I got the blue one and wasn’t sure if the color would work for me. It does! It’s a saturated shade of blue, but dark enough to not be obnoxious, yet vibrant enough to catch attention.

I am 188 pounds and my bust size is 36DD. I ordered this sweater in Golden Seal and Burnt Orange. Great fit. Pros: quality material, attractive colors, stylish, comfortable, elegant button detail on sleeve and ruffled cuff, buttons are securely sown to garment.

Cons: extremely low quality plastic buttons.

My husband loves these sweaters so much he had me buy duplicates. That way when the originals wear out and we inevitably can’t find replacements he’ll have new ones to pull out and continue to wear. He wears these every week to work over a dress shirt.

They are very lightweight but warm. I’ve washed them in cold and hung them to dry at least 3 times and they still look new. So far we’ve purchased this sweater in all the colors they make plus duplicates.

I wish they came in even more colors!.

First, all-merino T-necks, sweaters, etc are highly valued since merino wool is the best there is for everything. So these are great off the bat. They are also relatively inexpensive, particularly on sale, so are very good value.

the only qualm I have is that the turtleneck itself is knit as if it were a ribbed cuff, which means it is less substantial than the body of the sweater is. The result is that it doesn’t stay up so well.

Too thick and it would be too hot, I know, but in this case the body is medium weight and so I don’t think that would be a problem. So I would prefer the knit for the neck to be like the body. But it didn’t stop me from buying several colors.

Disappointing. They have made the sweaters machine washable now but the fit and feel is nothing like it was. Instead of a high quality heavy duty merino wool it feels like a cheap and light fabric. I wish they would bring back the dry clean only merino wool sweaters, they were the best sweaters I have ever bought.

I absolutely LOVE these! They are perfect for layering, or to wear alone in warmer weather. They are NOT as thin as I thought they’d be, which is good because I didn’t want it to be too thin. So it’s not see through, which is great! The fit is awesome! (They’re NOT fitted!) I have stomach from childbearing, so it’s not hugging my stomach area.

I highly recommend these. I bought the grey animal print, and the leopard print, (brown) and they are absolutely perfect in my opinion! Finally! Tops that fit me the way I like them to for my stomach area.

Love this turtleneck as it’s super soft & light. perfect for cool spring/ fall days Or worn under layers for the winter months. Love that it’s so versatile – can be dressed up or down with casual wear.

Only issue was that it was a bit hard to put on. My head got a little stuck going through the turtleneck portion of the shirt. My head isn’t large. at least I don’t think so LOL. so I’m assuming it was the sewing? For reference, I usually wear a size XXS & XS in jcrew clothing.

I went with the XXS because I wanted a tighter fit (though it wasn’t skin clenching & had a slight loose comfortable fit), to be tucked into pants or skirts.

I’ve been buying the JC tissue turtlenecks for years and love them as layering pieces in fall/winter. This year, I bought the black plaid for the holidays and was really impressed with the quality. This one seemed slightly sturdier than years past (but still lightweight).

I actually ended up purchasing a size smaller than normal (usually a L, ended up with a M for a perfect/fitted look to wear under sweaters and such). Get your normal size for a slightly more relaxed (but not baggy) fit.

The shoulders are a LITTLE weird with the pointy bits, but they are part of the drama of the outfit. You just have to make sure they’re pointing the right way when you put it on or do a big movement (like climbing out of a car).

It’s thick and warm, but the neck is not restrictive, and I was very comfortable in it. I needed something to go over a short-sleeved dress for a late autumn night out, and didn’t want to wear a coat that would need to come off and leave me shivering during dinner.

So I committed to the idea of wearing the sweater all night, though I had a backup plan of a sheer bolero if this was deemed too difficult. I modeled it for my friends before dinner and showed the backup bolero, and this dramatic piece won the votes, hands down, for looks alone.

I had no regrets, and I even wore it through a sixteen-course tasting menu with no trouble. The shape of it is slightly odd, but the way it hangs keeps it from wandering around, and the upward vee of it just below the neck meant that I exposed the perfect amount of skin between dress and sweater, so I didn’t look like a weird monolith.

Turtleneck sweater is very warm and cozy. The quality is good, it feels thick NOT thin and cheap. You can play around and mix it from a dainty style to down time lounging look. I will be rocking it different ways.

I love how the sleeve have a fitted yet baggy bubble style. Neck area feels great an protected. I usually get one then if i like the item i get it in another color. The sale was to awesome to pass. i’m glad i made the right choice of purchasing two.

If you have tiny shoulders and you want to accentuate them, this is the shrug for you. The design of this makes it very awkward to do much without disrupting how it sits on the body and the shoulders are huge and structured so they end up flopping around.

Conversely, the neck is very small. Do your hair after putting this on. The sweater is good quality and seems warm. I followed the advice of other reviews and sized down one, which was good advice, but I’m wondering if I shouldn’t have sized down by two given how voluminous the shoulders are.

This is such a comfy merino-blend material, not scratchy at all! I purchased it in heather oat as it matched some sage-coloured pants I bought elsewhere. I am 5’5″, 140 lb and have wide shoulders so I took a size 8, but size 6 was ok too (I prefer looser fit with more fabric).

I wish this also came in a light heather-grey colour! A few more colour options would have been nice. I have not washed this sweater yet so cannot comment on how it holds up (would need a laundry pouch for it).

Worth every penny! Super super soft! Great fit, it’s not long but not cropped! A little wide but looks cute tucked! The feel is just everything, like butter! Absolute must have for cold weather!! I sized up to 12, normally wear 10 in all lululemon things, but I liked the loose fit!.

They did GOOD WORK on this sweater! It is a little oversized and since I wanted to wear it to work I sized down one. I wear an 8 in tops, 10 in bras, and i got this in a size 6. It’s perfect! So soft.

Been looking for a plain black polo for awhile now – most these days seem to be the ribbed material? I purchased an XS – I am a size 6 with a small chest and its a good fit. Not super tight on the body, abit tight getting it over the head which means I’ll have to pop this on in the mornings before doing my make up as it will transfer onto the top.

Overall very happy and will probably purchase another.

Terrible quality. Really thin. Once it gets into lower double digits, it’ll be too cold to wear. It also completely lost shape in the body after a day of wearing to the office. The previous year’s were much better quality :(.

My ideal sweater. I bought this in 6 colours. Every single one formed holes after a single wash. I’ve never experienced such terrible quality in a garment. I had so many of these tops that I turned washing them into an experiment.

No matter the cycle, no matter how many mesh bags you nest these in to wash them, hot or cold, delicate or not, no matter how many times you wear them before washing, there WILL be holes when you remove it from the washer.

Truly a perfect sweater, I adore it, but the quality truly could not be worse.

Amazing colours. Thin but warm and isn’t see through and very body fitting ( this years XS fits like a S from previous collections). Just love them soo much and will order more colours. Quality of stitching is good and never had problems with other people mentioning getting holes in them (lol wash wool on delicate or wool setting with special detergent).

The mock shirt i got was totally “inferior” to what i expected-ouch! I actually threw it out (for real). It wasn’t about the money, but the quality! The neck was waayy out of whack, and the shoulders? I’m 6′ 180 and i do work out, but i would’ve taken this into account before i railed on your product.

I recently received three mock turtlenecks just in time for the colder weather. Considering what I paid the quality of the product is outstanding. I received the biggest compliment when a friend of mine mentioned how nice it looked.

He asked where I got the turtleneck from so I mentioned Blair. The next time I saw him he was wearing one! Then he said he had three more on order. Can’t go wrong with these turtlenecks.

I was unable to find a man’s turtle-neck shirt locally. I had purchased BLAIR men’s wear in the past with good results so turned to BLAIR for the turtle-neck. I liked a certain shirt enough to order 4 of different colors.

Delivery was staggered but happened in shorter time than feared. The quality of shirt cloth and stitching is excellent. Glad to have all 4.

This sweater is GORGEOUS!!! the second I saw it I knew I wanted it. It feels thick and good quality, very flattering and formfitting but not supertight. Just makes a nice sillhoute. I love the slightly 60s-70s vintage feel of it (someone told me it makes me look like Velma).

Perfect shade of orange, not too bright. cropped but not too cropped. I call it my pumpkin sweater!!! It is SO FALL!! Planning on wearing it to the pumpkin patch. I will say the material feels like the type to maybe pill after a while or if it is washed.

Also someone mentioned the long cowlneck, I was planning on just cutting it (my hijab would hide it anyway).

Loved it, but I ordered my normal size small and the sleeves were a bit too short so I needed to size up. Reordering it now in a medium. The material is nice and the sweater is a staple for fall/winter.
