20 Best Turtles For Beginners (2022 Updated)

Love this but i took a star off because I received it and it was a bit broken. The lid piece had a part that broke that holds the lid on neatly. Its large so Im not trying to return it. And the lock on the lid also was broken.

The lid, if you have wires that are rounded like we do for a water heater it creates a problem. The wires that are attached to the supplies that come with it are flat and fit just perfectly to get out of the lid and into the outlet.

So i will try to accommodate by cutting the lid a bit but other than that the tank is great. My turtles LOVE it! Its an excellent starter setup. Also, it was shipped very carefully. The packaging was great!.

The kit is really nice and the stuff looks good and functions well. The plastic plants are a throw away for turtles I think, at least for mine. The one issue I have is that the description makes it sound like the filter is also a basking platform, maybe for frogs or other small climbers.

It is too steep for my turtles to climb up onto. It does come with another basking platform.

We love having a “pet” that moves and she can practice taking care of on her own at 6 to prepare her for a pet in the future! I do take it out of the water every other day to clean it but it is super easy to clean!.

A great gift for grandchildren! Boy or girl, mine are twins! Highly recommend this site and product!

This was my first order with Melissa & Doug’s site and it was for my grandson. His mother, my daughter, is a counselor at an elementary school said that Melissa & Doug are a well known and respected company in the teacher’s and children community.

It is a Christmas gift so the joy is yet to come. The turtle is big, well made, and hopefully a keepsake for a four year old’s bed for many years to come. As I told my daughter he may play with many other toys but this should help him go to sleep every night.

He of course will have to come up with a name for his Sea Turtle and there in lies the real magic of this gift.

My daughter saw this at Whole Foods for $40. I told her I would look online for a better price! Well low and behold Walmart came in trying with $25! Great deal huge turtle. Perfect for my turtle loving girl!.

I love Doodle, my Folkmanis Chicken puppet. and he has fallen in love with the cutest little hen, Clara! During this pandemic, it takes very little to entertain the folks in our family. Love all my Folkmanis puppets and their emerging personalities! (Smile) I would recommend this “Rooster” as a great asset to any educator’s lesson plans for youngsters (and maybe the oldsters, too) The construction, especially the mouth and wings, enable a very “realistic” dialog to come forth in animation.

As with all Folkmanis puppets, they become real “characters” to tell their own stories in the hands of both children and adults.

Omigosh! This is a terrific hand puppet! She sports a beautiful fur coat, has these gorgeous, long-lashed eyes (my husband says it’s truly the way an ostrich looks), and her lovely beak can be used to make so many different expressions! I love the way her neck easily stretches to elbow length.

If you put your arm through a coat sleeve and let the coat hang down over your arm, you have a perfect stage for your lady ostrich to gaze over. I picked up some colored plastic bangles and they make perfect necklaces for her.

I’m having so much fun, I may have to order another to fulfill my original intention of giving her as a gift to my granddaughter!.

Wonderful. Brought out the ‘kid’ in this almost-80 year old. Really wanted to keep him. He told me his name was Shep. The 3 yr old who got him enjoyed him right away, too. Cute, well-made, clever. and encourages creativity.

Folkmanis knows how to make their puppet products. For an upcoming birthday there’s a Folkmanis bunny for my pint-sized friend. Meanwhile I’ll visit with & enjoy the bunny before tucking him into an already-purchased box.

Maybe I need to get a Folkmanis for myself. GREAT PURCHASE.

i rescued a hatchling from someone that bought it off the dtla backalley pet vendors. the turtle began to grow and lived with other 4 inch bigger turtles. this hatchling chirped at night. well it started hiding behind the filter and i was consistent with clean water changes as i read on blogs could have been a respiratory infection.

Bug died 2 months ago, and my other 3 turtles are fine. i believe Bug was to young and weak, but i believe this turtle fix that smells like eucalyptus helped my bigger turtles not get sick. I also have a water heater in my tank for those reading that want to help with at home respiratory infections, i read online to close the lid and keep it warm like a sauna for your sick turtle turtle.

water change every 2 days and add fresh turtle fix. i feed my turtles outside their tank in another plastic container to keep the water the cleanest.

My Reeve started not eating and trying to escape. I though she had eggs but after putting her in the nesting tub she got lethargic. A friend mentioned Turtlefix and after 3 days she was swimming around/eating and basking like normal.

YAY!!! It worked! I didn’t realize how much I needed to use so, make sure you buy enough.

My first purchase of Turtle Fix was more than two years ago for my Red Eared Slider to help her with bacterial infection. It was definitely a game changer. In no time my Turtle was feeling much better and now I add a little to the terrarium every time I clean it.

It has been in my household for my Turtle every since. I notice the local pet stores are limited or out of stock. I will continue to purchase Turtle Fix.

This is such a great book. I am learning so much about turtles and tortoises. i read it all the time. the pictures are gorgeous. I have turtles all my life and recently had a tortoise. Thank you for such a great and learning book about these magical creatures.

A very informative and well laid out book. Could have done with more colour photos however the black and white sketches do go well with the text. Another criticism I do have is that the Turtle and Tortoise info is all mixed up, rather than being divided into seperate areas.

It is rare that you would end up looking to buy or own both a Turtle and a Tortoise at the same time! Recommend this book to anyone that is completely clueless and needs to begin from scratch.

Excellent Sights and a great price. Pros: 1. Front and rear sights included. 2. Green tritium – no batteries – they just glow for years. 3. Bright enough for low light/ total dark, but not so bright as to cause glare/ night blindness.

4. Sights are “combat sights” – Meaning you place the front sight over the Point Of Impact. 5. Front of sights are contoured to provide snag free reholstering. 6. Made from CNC machined steel. 7. Rear sight is a tight fit in dovetail and comes with a set screw to further secure the sight.

8. Front sight is a tight fit in the front sight opening. Comes with pre-Gen4 and Gen4 screw. 9. Sights can easily be used in daylight too. Cons: 1. Rear of the sights are NOT contoured so may snag slightly when drawn from holster.

2. I daylight, sights not as bright of a white as the stock Glock42 sights, but still very visible. 3. Sight dots are slightly smaller in diameter than the stock Gloc42 front sight dot. 4. Rear sight slot is a bit too wide and front sight is a bit too thin so a its a bit more difficult to center the front sight in between the dots on the rear sight when aiming.

With practice, this will become easier. Things to consider: 1. Sight press is a must to install the rear sight into the dovetail. 2. Locktite thread locker blue is highly recommended for screws used to mount the sights.

3. A Glock Sight tool is a must for installing the front sight. 4. You must use the supplied Gen4 screw when installing the front sight on the Glock42. 5. These sights carry a 12 year limited warranty.

6. Failing to use a sight press voids the warranty. Observations: 1. Currently the best price for a complete sight set that I could find. 2. “Combat sights” work very well in low light/night scenarios.

3. Easy to line up sights in low light/night situations. 4. Works quite well in daylight situations. 5. In my case, I find these sights to be more accurate. 6. The rear sight slot is a bit too wide for my tastes.

7. High quality CNC machined steel sights look good and color match is perfect with Glock42. 8. Using 6 O’clock and 50/50 sight pictures will place Point Of Impact low on target. 9. Front and rear sight tools are a must for installation to avoid damage (Breaking the tiny glass vials containing the tritium and marring the finish of both pistol and sights.

A universal rear sight tool can be had for as little as $30. 00 dollars on ebay. Front sight tools for as little as $10. 00. VISM, NCStar, TruGLO, and others make these tools. Youtube has a number of videos detailing installation using these tools and as always, use Locktite ThreadLocker Blue to secure your sight screws to keep them from backing out from recoil.

This food is great for our 7-year-old Yellow-bellied slider. The pellets stay together for a good amount of time, so there usually isn’t too much residual mess left in the tank. Also, the round shape makes them easier for him to eat when they end up along the glass, compared to the floating sticks which are hard for a turtle beak to pry off the side without continuously hitting the glass when he snaps.

We have stuck with this brand from hatchling (growth formula) to the present with the maintenance formula. Happy to keep purchasing this good product because it has kept our guy healthy and happy.

I have other products from Wyze , and am a BIG WYZE fan. The camera was easy to install, functions as it says. Takes great clear video! Goes well with my Wyze doorbell, camera V2, door sensor, and Wyze plugs and Wyze light bulbs.

Highly recommend to make it easy to control my electronic gadgets and make my home more secure.

This dragon-like creature is straight from Wonderland! As with most Folkmanis puppets, the workmanship is exquisite. And the makers have been true to the illustration by Tenniel from the original “Looking Glass” edition (only the waistcoat is missing–see attached photo).

But non-Alice fans will appreciate the delight this critter evokes. A bit of experimentation with him reveals that he can do all kinds of movements most puppets could only dream about. He can be worked one-handed in the usual style, but I have found that two hands really make him come alive.

Here’s how I do it, but you may find other ways: The left hand goes first into the body UPSIDE DOWN, connecting to the neck and the wings. This allows the neck to pull back and spring forward. Then slide the right hand into the opening to work one arm, letting the thumb wag the tail.

It is possible to work both arms and the tail, but it is a stretch. Alternately, omit the tail and do only the arms. The legs are not set up for hands, but someone truly ambitions might have another puppeteer work the legs by adding rods.

But this Jabber already does so much that it really isn’t necessary. If one had an EXTREMELY long finger, it is possible the mouth might work, but for us more usual folk, getting access through the long neck isn’t doable.

And with the hand in backward, it is very expressive as it is! One downside: My husband has larger hands and he couldn’t get the other hand inside and it was a tight fit for one hand. I love this puppet! Be aware it is going for a wide range of prices, so shop around.

Bought for my son at about 5. 5 months. Now 7 months and crawling. He originally just enjoyed the songs as I pushed the buttons. Now he actively pushes buttons and crawls after it. Only downside is not a huge repertoire of songs.

The more expensive version of this (about 2x more) looks to have more songs but not sure it makes a difference to my little guy.

I have a 6 year old daughter. When said daughter was 5, we rescued a trio of sick turkey poults. They were so rough that one didn’t even make it home, and the other passed that night. The sole surviving turkey was my 6 year old’s, who she had promptly named Busy Bee.

Busy Bee grew fast. He grew as tall as my daughter, and the were inseparable– she’d squat in the backyard, arm over his back like a human friend, and just jabber away to him. While we have chickens, the neighbors were not excited about Busy Bee singing the song of his particular people.

So we found a farm sanctuary, and we get occasional updates about him, happily living his life there. But my 6 year old, she has been devastated. So when she saw this weird turkey toy, her eyes welled up, and she informed me that she would like it.

Couldn’t say no obviously, so we brought it home. This dang turkey goes in the bath, to bed, in her backpack, EVERYWHERE, and a month in it’s still holding up. I would never have imagined myself being grateful to a toy company for making a flipping turkey, but here we are.

Parenthood is wild. But this turkey is legit. Super realistic, doesn’t make the neighbors mad, and comforts an odd 6 year old.

The sculpt is sleek, even statuesque, the figure boasts a look that so resembles a modern raptor one expects to see a beak. Odd to not see the sinewy muscled limbs from other representations but it is a much welcomed change of form, and gone are the dangling arms ubiquitously present amongst all the figures of dromaeosauridae.

The details are subdued, with the tuberculate scales limited to the feet and face, and a first for any “raptor” is the presence of lips in keeping with the latest scientific research. The sculpted feathers are well done, especially on the primary-secondary wing feathers and the tail.

I do like the taloned fingers on the wings just visible under the wings. The pose can also be described as statuesque, evoking the virtues we bestow upon birds of prey. Power, speed, grace, even nobility.

The figure is frozen in step, head turned left, muzzle raised upward which I interpreted as testing the air for scent. The wings tucked tightly against the body. The tail is sculpted down providing support making the figure a classic tripod yet, it works in tandem as a whole.

Think of an actress’s long flowing gown on a red carpet event. Stately, and grateful. The colours again draws inspiration from modern raptors resembling a Hawk, chocolate and cinnamon browns with white markings.

Yellow for the face and feet and a crimson eye completes the pallet. Again, drawn from modern nature, spectacularly subdued. This figure boasts a look consistent with scientific research, and modern aesthetics.

Deinonychus is a prime figure for the dinosaur renaissance, beautifully sculpted, expertly painted, and highly collectible.

I have been feeding ReptoMin to my turtle for 16 years. We got her the size of a 1/2 dollar and she is about 10 inches now. We supplement with other foods like snails and shrimp occasionally, by ReptoMin is the regular diet.

The vet that specializes in reptiles said that she is the best home grown specimen that he has seen.

Absolutely love this. The detail is amazing. I originally was gonna put him in the flower bed in front of my house but lived him so much I put him in the back by the pool where I can see him when I’m in the pool.

He’s motivated me to pick up a few more critters.

I love my turtle! I am up in age now and it was getting to hard to let my dog in and out so when she passed I decided not to get another live animal so I got a Turtle instead. I love my Turtle!!!

He is very life like. Good sized. Happy with my purchase. Only been a week. So I will see how he holds up

You should have seen the look on my aquatic turtle’s faces when I whipped out this food. They go crazy for it, wiggling around everywhere when it is feeding time. My only complaint is that it tends to leave their water a bit murky and green.

They have a complete filter system but the green stays! And it is not from algae. The food does float, so they can feast as they naturally would. I’ve seen one of my turtles flush the food from their system, and to my surprise, some rocks came out as well 🙁 so I do not feel that this food has the adequate calcium percentage that most aquatic turtles need in their diet, so it may be helpful to also find some treats with calcium to satisfy their dietary needs! The food is a bit wider in size, so if you have a turtle that has a hard time catching food (like I do) you may want to look at another brand.

But this food is fine other than what I have listed above.

Size of the jar was larger than I expected which was a plus. It actually smells good too, like blueberries. My tortoise smelled it and excitedly ate it right away. Glad I chose to try it!

I have 4 very picky land tortoises. Cass is around 50 years of age, Spike is around 15 and the twins are 5 years old. They all eat this, moistened, pretty well. With added fruit and veggies it disappears in a few hours.

They are all very particular and I was surprised to see them enjoy a food so well. And you can’t beat the chewy price!.

My grand daughter got a kick out of this. So did her cats! I was looking for some water toys for her in the pool and picked this up. It swims around! She likes to try and catch it in the pool. She also plays with it in the tub.

The cats cant figure out what it is and they keep trying to scoop it out of the water. Very cute. she saw on the back of the package there are mermaids, so now she wants some of them too. lol.

This is an amazing toy for the prize! I can not begin to tell you how much fun my 7 year old has had with this toy! It swims in water and is so much fun to put in water areas (the pool, the bathtub, a bucket of water).

My 7 year old named her sally and has literally dragged sally around everywhere. Overall a great and fun toy.

We got a purple turtle. The turtle works on land and in water. My daughter accidently dropped the turtle and it still works! This turtle is smart. It stops moving after 15 seconds or so and is reactivated once you touch it again.
