20 Best Turtles For Ponds (2022 Updated)

My turtle likes the tank. I have sent Tetrafauna a question about the water filtering system. I may have overestimated the cleaning ability of the filter. The website mentions an additive to the water that may help.

And the kit came w/ the same size light fixtures–the instructions mention a shorter fixture for the heating light and a taller one for the UVB light bulb. I emailed Tetrafauna about that too. I will probably need to use the heater I also purchased as the water doesn’t seem to be staying warm enough w/ just the lights.

But overall I like the aquarium.

This was a very expensive purchase for our aquatic turtle but he was quickly outgrowing his piece meal smaller tank with heatlamps and tiny filters from amazon. We bit the bullet and for the most part have been very happy.

Some reviews said pieces were missing and filter didn’t work , but we found set up to be very easy, the filter is efficient and easy to change filter pads inside, the basking bridge is perfect for our turtle bc water level is minimum, but for a turtle that needs the water higher or filled to maximum level it will not allow for much space to bask.

My only complaint is that two lamps of the same size were provided unlike the ones in the photo. The bulb that looked like a heat bulb was not, but the regular bulb was hotter. I think there needs to be two heat lamps or a pad.

The tank is big. I finally just bought a thermometer to monitor. Overall, this is the best aquatic turtle tank I could find anywhere.

After just a couple of weeks, the basking light/heat lamp stopped working. Tried replacing the bulb, no luck. Tried working with customer service on the issue, no help other than to replace the entire kit that is already set up with a turtle in it!!! Only the heat lamp stopped working.

Seems so much easier and cheaper to simply replace that! There are various options on the site available. But, go ahead and send out an entire new kit and have me have to ship the old one back. That’s customer friendly.

Don’t waste your money!! Wheat gluten, potato gluten, other fillers, etc. ! This stuff clogged my filter to the point where it failed! It clouded the water and encouraged algae to grow! It looked like strings of thick snot floating in the water and attaching to everything! It allowed algae and snot like goo to collect on my turtle’s shell so badly that I had to scrub him several times.

I know this was the cause because in the three years I’ve had the turtle, THIS food was the only new thing that had been introduced! NEVER before did I ever have issues like this! VERY DISAPPOINTED with this!!.

This turtle food is amazing! I have tried many turtle foods but this is my turtles’ favorite food ever! I have 12 turtles snd they love this food! They are offered fruits and vegetables always but they most enjoy this food! I 1 BILLION % recommend this turtle food, and this brand! Definitely go and test there food out with your aquatic turtles! My turtles eat a few pounds of turtle food a month so I spend lots of money on this food! I would love if I could get some discounts on this food too, because that would really help me out since I have 12 turtles and have to spend tons of money on there food, and I have tons more types of animals and have to purchase lots of other foods for my other animals too! But yes! I 100 % recommend this food! So definitely try it out with your friendly little pets! My turtles are between the age of 1 month to 55 years of age! I love them!.

It have all the necessary nutrients for your turtle. We have my turtle called Loki like 8 years and we always feed him with this brand and hope of food and he REALLY loves it. He is a medium aquatic turtle so if you are gonna buy it assure your turtle is in water cause, did you know aquatic turtles can’t produce saliva? So they need to use water to chew their food :v I recommend this product? ABSOLUTELY YES! They also have this product that are smaller sticks for baby’s or smaller turtles:

Our yellow bellied slider, Tallulah Belle, loves this shrimp/meal worm/cricket mixture. She eats every single bite of food in her tankexcept for her first nine months when she struggled with the size of the crickets and almost always left behind their heads.

TB goes crazy kicking and splashing when she sees the Flukers jar being opened. But then again, she acts that way whenever I open any food container in front of her because shes an always-hungry eating machine.

For the first year of TBs life, we fed her turtle food sticks and Flukers Aquatic Turtle Medley every other day, supplemented with vegetation. Now that shes a little over a year and a half, her diet is vegetation-heavy and is supplemented 1-2 times weekly with Flukers Medley Treat (she eats the whole cricket nowadays) and Flukers Buffet Blend.

We always dust the Fluker food with calcium powder. Tallulah Belle would probably rate this food 4-5 stars. The reason for my three-star rating is the lack of quality control. The tidbits in Flukers Medley Treat are not quite evenly distributed: heavy on the meal worms & shrimp and a little too light on the crickets.

There are also inconsistencies regarding whole intact morsels. Here are my experiences with three 1. 5-oz jars purchased over the course of seven months: One time it was filled with mostly intact critters.

In another jar, the dust and debris caused by crushed critters was more noticeable but still an acceptable amount. Another time, the amount of dust & debris was unacceptable, making up about one fifth of the contents.

Ive included two comparison photos, one obviously showing when dust and debris was at its worst; both show the lack of crickets. All in all, our aquatic turtle loves this food, and knock on wood, I really hope I dont jinx it.

This is serious gourmet for my swamp monsters. I have to use some old tweezers because it’s so gross to touch. There are whole bugs and tiny whole shrimp and large pieces, my turtle and koi LOVE IT. They usually get shrimp pellets and some other ‘floating bits’ but they enjoy this so much.

It was meant as a treat but I find myself giving it to them at meal time because they get so active and excited. I highly recommend it.

My turtle went on a hunger strike because he hated the food that he had been eating for years. As soon as I fed him this, he was eating happily. I have this as a subscribe and save. Great mix for variety.

And the crickets are good size. My only complaint is that I’ve had a couple containers that were a significant amount of “dust” when getting to the bottom. But it’s still good quality and Tyler who is 20+ years old gobbles it up happily.

I got them to balance the bacteria in the tank as well as improve the appearance when the turtle poops or leaves food crumbs. We can’t always get it out in time put the gravel kind of tucks it away until it’s time to clean the tank.

I only gave it 4 stars because I got that specific type and size of rocks so I know my turtle won’t confuse it for food or anything. Most of the rocks are medium sized but there are quite a few tiny ones.

This would be my second time purchasing these pebbles for my turtle, and I haven’t had an issue yet! My turtle loves playing with them and he camouflages perfectly. However, I would say to pre-rinse the pebbles.

Even though it advertises that they’re washed before hand it’ll still turn the water murky.

I would recommend washing them an straining them a few times to make sure all the debris don’t go into the tank when you add them. Other than that I have no complaints.

I got this with my tank set when I got my turtle. For the brand I expected better. The pole or whatever you’d consider it is plastic and kinda flimsy. The one I got one of the suction cups wasn’t even able to work.

He didn’t even seem to like it he’d try to get on but I’m guessing it moved too much so he’d just not try. I ended up getting a different one that’s more stable and bigger too. Sadly it’s by a separate company and isn’t sold on here.

Otherwise I’d highly recommend that one over this one. I ended up selling this one and apparently their turtle really liked it so maybe it’d just depend on how skittish your turtle is.

I have actually bought several of these, in all the different sizes, as my turtles grew. I would advise you to go ahead and buy this one, or the size up, in the first place, instead of buying them as your turtle grows like I did.

This size and 1 size up, works well with smaller and a little bigger turtles. I would also advise you to put the bars on upside down, so the plastic bar that goes straight across is up top, and not underneath.

Because all my turtles loved to stick their heads in it and get stuck. But ALL my turtles have LOVED these docks.

The main issue I had with this product is the suction cups. The “instructions” simply say to “put on the suction cups” but it is not as easy as it says. I struggle to put the suction cups on for 30 minutes.

I handed it off to two people before we finally got them on. And then when I tried to get the suction cups to stick onto the glass one of them would not stick. Possibly because it got warped when we struggled to put it on.

The dock itself feels cheap like styrofoam and so do the poles holding the suction cups. I think this product would be fine as a temporary dock for very small baby turtles, but not for anything larger and not for long term.

I was hoping to get a wide, long tank to house a 6″ adult male RES. The measurements listed are for the outermost “lip” at the top of the tub. The base is 36″ X 18″ : The same size as a 40 gallon breeder.

The tank itself flares to a measurement of 38″ X 20″ at the top, meaning it holds a bit more water than a 40 breeder, but I was hoping for the listed measurements to be the dimensions throughout. The upside to that smaller base measure, however, is that it fits onto a 40 gallon breeder stand, meaning it can be easily raised above a canister filter, which is necessary for most canisters to function.

The benefits it has over a 40 gallon breeder is a modest increase in size, a built-in ramp, and easier cleaning (since it’s much lighter and won’t shatter if you drop it). A 40 gallon breeder tank has the benefits of clear walls (duh), and the ability to add a standard hood or cover.

The ramp at it’s maximum height is 8 inches, which means the distance from the top to the ramp is also 8 inches. Larger turtle species may be able to climb out, though they also would have too little water volume for health and happiness, unless they are a shallow-water species.

For my red eared slider, I’m adding Plexiglas to add height, an additional out-of-tank basking area, and raising the tank water level above the ramp to allow him to swim easier. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend a tank as small as 40 gallons for a slider.

Only the 4-inch turtle species (such as mud and musk) should really be kept in a container this size. For sliders, the usual recommendation is 10 gallons per adult inch. That would mean a 120-gallon tank for a female, and 60 gallons for my runt of a male.

As a word to other big turtle species owners: sock tanks may be an option for a larger tank, depending on where you live. The downside to those is that they aren’t particularly attractive and need special considerations for basking areas/ filtration/lighting.

Overall, I think it will work for me, but the tank isn’t big for a turtle: it’s the bare minimum!.

This is really good as a starter kit and a cheap one at that. Most of the things in this kit complement the overall habitat, with the exception of a one thing. First off, the substrate that is included should not be used for your turtle, or any aquatic animal.

This is due to the fact that the substrate will stick to your turtle,s skin when it is wet, so whenever he/she comes out of the water and onto the basking area with this as the substrate, it will stick to their skin.

When he/she goes back into the water, they’ll bring the substrate that stuck to their skin into the water with them. This will clog up the filter as a result. I would reccomend using some rocks bigger than your turtle’s mouth to hold the substrate down.

We finally decided to spend the money and buy this trap for our deep 1 acre pond. Last year we had so many turtles and tried making a homemade one that didn’t work. We just bought this less than a month ago after seeing turtles and put it out.

After 2 days, there was 3 then about 4 days later, 6. We just checked it again after a few days and it had 16!!!!!!! Holy cow! Finally something that’s worth the money and works!!!.

We were so excited to get the trap. Put it out and caught 2 turtles. Haven’t caught anymore since. Had a bigger one on top of the cage but jumped back in the water. Sounds like all the good reviews are lies.

I’ve had a time with fighting turtles in my pond. They strip the bait off of my fishing line and make it hard to catch fish. I was delighted after 4 days to find a hugh turtle in the trap. I’ve caught 3 more in the last couple of weeks.

One was only 3 inches across, so it will work with large and small ones alike.

Tommy and the turtle fit perfectly in our garden. We have other children statues and he is now part of the gang. His presence makes us happy when we walk in our garden. If you have the space I would definitely add Tommy to your garden.

My mother in law loved this for her 80th birthday. It’s so beautiful, very delicate lines. Very pleased with it.

Mr. Turtle absolutely loves his floating log. It’s nice and big for him to get in and out of.

My turtles love it and spend most of the day inside looking out of the windows.

This log would be much better if our turtle was smaller. His weight tips the float but he likes it to swim in and through. It took him a while to learn how to get up on the log.

My 2 young Cumberland sliders are like kids at a park, climbing up on it and looking out the openings waiting for a red rosy to swim by and got ya Highly recommended !!!

We purchased this floating log for our African side-neck turtle, and he LOVES it!He’s approximately 5 inches wide, so for now he still fits. He easily climbs inside to sleep or just hang out. The log has not deteriorated at all over the past 6 months we’ve been using it, doesn’t flip over, is really solid, and a terrific home for one’s pet turtle.

I just wish that there were bigger sizes so t.

Bought this 25 lb bag for my tortoises. I have 5 sulcatas, 4 leapords, 2 redfoots, and 3 russian tortoises, all from a wide variety of age ranges. NONE of them will touch this stuff. I’ve tried soaking it, grinding it, mixing with their regular diet, tried not feeding them for a day to see if they will get hungry enough to eat it.

nope. They ain’t gonna touch it. I’m left with a very expensive bag of chicken feed. Try a small portion before you purchase a big bag. The chewy website was great though. Easy and very fast delivery.

I bought a huge bag of this. I expected fairly large food pieces like the ones used in the Kamp Kenan youtube series. Kenan throws out large pellets, 1/2” to 3/4” in length. I opened my new bag of mazuri herbivorous food to find pellets the size of breadcrumbs.

My tiny Herman tortoise likes it. My uro, chuckwallas, & Solomon Island skinks won’t touch it. I dampen the mazuri crumbs & put them on top of the greens. Later, I end up throwing all of the crumbs out because they all immediately fall down through the greens to the bottom of the plate, & then are ignored because the lizards don’t recognize them as food.

Very disappointed in this product. Doesn’t seem to taste good to lizards & the tiny pellet size is absurd.

I ordered 10 boxes (50 blocks) of the turtle feeding block because my Red Eared Slider, Lucy, after four years of growing with the same group of goldfish, has suddenly decided to add fish to her diet.

She ate one of the 9 inch long goldfish, after a water change and then one month later ate a second one. I am down to four fish and hope to keep them, but unless she has something to tide her over, I am afraid she will continue to decrease the company.

When I have the feeder blocks in the water, she seems more inclined to eat them than the fish, at least that is my assumption. In addition to two feedings of regular food each day, she gets a block every other day.

That seems to keep her happy so far. Chewy provided these at a very reasonable price and quickly so that I did not have to worry about a shortage before Lucy got too hungry.

Dropped one of the blocks in the tank and my turtle watched it sink to the bottom. Slowly, he approached it and sniffed it and swam away. This cycle repeated a half dozen times. I came back 6 hours later and I noticed chunks of it missing.

The next day, most of it was gone so I know he likes it. Will see how it goes with the remaining blocks.

I hope my review goes through. but this was like turtle crack to my turtles. I have red snappers thats about 5 years old & a musk. they tore this thing up in less then 24hours !!! So that being said i believe it is a hit & they love it.

i just have to purchase more next time. :-D.

Trying to find the best food options for my 3 turtles and I feel their diet was lacking before this food. They showed no signs of illness but after reading about mazuri and deciding its better than the floating sticks I was feeding them, I made the switch.

They showed no hesitation and immediately devoured the new food. I’m really glad I bought the 25 pound bag because it’s a great value! Thanks again chewy!.

I purchased this food for my very picky yellow bellied slider and to my delight she loves them! I was nervous bc she’s very picky and only ever wants to eat meat. I got these bc of the vegetable and calcium content and Am very happy with it.

After a few weeks you can see the difference, she looks much healthier.

Got this for my 7 year old daughter as she loves turtles. I went with the pink version as it had a cool flower design on its back. The good news is that my daughter loves the turtle! Her favourites things about it are the pattern on its shell and that it swims in water so a great addition to the bath toys.

It can also crawl along on carpet and hard surface (floor, table etc), which is very cute. Some negatives points to note though – the battery is not included (needs 1 x AAA) and it is fiddly with 2 tiny screws to open the compartment so make sure you have a mini screwdriver and battery to hand, especially when giving as a gift! Once battery is in, it is very easy to switch it on and off by pressing a small button.

Also it does make quite a lot of noise when it’s switched on, which can be quite annoying! Overall though my daughter is really happy with it and loves playing with it. It is also small enough to take it out and about to keep her entertained.

My children are constantly asking for pets which we just can’t afford at the moment. I love little live pets as they give the kids a little companion to look after and play with. I was particularly impressed with the lovely colours on the little turtle.

All three of my children love playing with it and particularly love that it can walk on the floor but also swim in the bath with them or in a little bowl. Endless hours of fun!.

Little Live Pets Lil’ Turtle Shell Sea is an adorable and fun turtle. The turtle moves well on hard surfaces and pretty well in water. The turtle does not work on carpeted type surfaces. I love the bright colors and pattern on this turtle.

I like the easy to use push button to turn it on and off. Batteries not included; it was awkward removing the screws to put batteries in. I do not know the lifespan of battery use (if this product eats battery power up quickly or if it is energy efficient).

I do overall recommend this cute and fun toy for toddlers and kids.

Very good for young turtles. The size is nice, the ingredients are better than other brands I’ve seen, and they get the job done. My turtle loves these- you just have to remember that turtles need more to their diet than these pellets.

These are a good source of protein when your baby turtle needs it, but put some turtle safe veggies into the mix to keep your turtle happy and healthy.

A decade ago I purchased a “red ear slider” from a pet shop. He was the size of a quarter. Today, he is the size of a toilet seat. About 12″-14″ wide and 14″-16″ long. Recently I had to take him to a vet.

I changed his food, thinking I’d go cheaper. Well, cheaper means less nutrition. It caused him to contract parasites and become malnourished. Never seen a vet in his whole life until I changed him from the Tetra Reptomin! The vet said he was gorgeous and healthy, but the food I switched him to was subpar and the Reptomin was complete nutrition.

He started out on the minis and graduated as he grew to the different size sticks. He doesn’t care for the skinny sticks. He wants a manwich meal! Save yourself the headache and subsequent vet bill. Buy Tetra ReptoMin!.

This is the same food as the smaller versions, but in a much larger size. I thought I’d try it for my adult RES turtle since he’s snubbing the other feeder sticks. To my surprise, he readily eats these.

Wish I’d gotten them sooner. Seems like there’s less mess with these, too, that they don’t break into tiny pieces once bitten. The others break into a million pieces if not eaten whole, ,and these break into chunks.

Definitely a good buy if you have an adult turtle.

Received the item and the first thing I noticed is the usual frustration free packaging, which I really appreciate as a parent. You just open the back by putting your finger under the tab and you open the back flap under which has the items that secure it to the packaging.

You will need scissors for a few spots, but it nothing too difficult to open. The turtle is super cute, the head is able to move from side to side and clicks as you move it. The fins are made with a thicker foam padding with a satin sheen on the top.

It has two buttons, one on the top and the ABC123 button. The bottom side of the turtle has the standard volume settings of most Fisher-Price toys, off, soft volume, and standard volume. As a parent I always appreciate the lower volume setting and an off switch.

The bottom side of the turtle also has a kick stand, so you can keep the kickstand down and the turtle won’t move. When you have the kickstand up and push the center button it will move. It seemed to have a slightly hard time going across carpet, but it was super smooth on other surfaces.

If you push the turtle it will start playing music. When you push the ABC button, it will sing a song. It is really fun and entertaining when it is moving around. The turtle is really sturdy, I would imagine it would be hard to break.

I think the linkimals are cute, but I did not have another one to test the functionality. Usually when we are at target we hit one of them only to have the entire group of them say hi back, which is super neat.

I think this product is great for a young old especially beginning to crawl/walk. The toy is great for a little one to follow after and encourage interaction. The music is soft and sweet, something I have come to expect from Fisher-Price.

I really love Fisher-Price toy designs and this one is no exception. Great turtle, super durable, fun to chase, and with super cute music, it would be a great item for a little one in your life!.

For whatever reason I skipped this one initially and bought the penguin first instead. This turtle is great. It’s super easy for baby to slap so it’s easier to initiate than the others. The lights, changing music, and option to move entertain my 5 month old! Turtle says things like “totally awesome” which I could imagine might turn off some people, but it’s a total hit! We use it almost daily since buying it.

This product is really cute, our daughter loves pushing it back and forth to me. Positive it links with all bar our otter, but Fisher Price are looking into it for us. It’s engaging and always has different things to sing and say.

Unlike other toys it’s always out and we don’t rotate these toys as she loves them, because they say different things it means she always has them doing a different function. Negative, it works on her play mats but it won’t move well on a carpet.

It’s not a very high pile carpet either as to be very honest it needs replacing but we are moving soon. Hope this is helpful for fellow linkimals fans.

I bought this for my daughter for $10. The turtle just walks and has a propeller on its back to “swim” its cute BUT for the money they dont include the reuqired AAA battery which is very disappointing.

Also when you do get one for the turtle you have to open the battery compartment with a small phillips screw driver which is a hassel. For the $10 they should have included an installed batery.

Got this cute little turtle for my toddler and he loves it! He has it walking around our living room all day long. He always doesn’t forget to bring him into the bathtub because it swims in water. The only downside is when it goes under the couch and I have to get it lol.

I’ve wasted so much money and time buying so many different name brand pellets for my picky turtle and this is literally the only pellets she’ll eat. No joke. She’s so spoiled that once she started getting treats and boiled chicken and shrimp and fish that she wouldn’t touch pellets after her baby pellets.

That was like 7 years ago! I’m so excited I literally text her human uncle we have to celebrate. And honestly they don’t smell bad at all. Nor do they make your hands feel weird after touching. Not clouding up water or absorbing water to fast where it would be too mushy for her to want it, nor does it puff up fast when sitting in water.

I’m glad we found this. I can tell my Philly girl is glad too cause she’s sucking it up like I suck up cake and pie bahahaha.

Poor turtles. The koi like to grab it, even before the turtles get a chance. But… turtles always win in the end.

This product is the best for your Turtle. I’ve been using this for years now. Not only that but it keeps the water clean and my turtle love them. Other products Ive used in the past cloud the water. I couldn’t not recommend any other turtle food better than this one.
