20 Best Tv Bias Lighting (2022 Updated)

This led strip worked flawlessly on my 55. It’s very nice looking and adds character to whatever you watch. Red on horror. Green on nature. Ect. Sticks very well without need for more glue. Which is kind of difficult given the texture of most TV backings being not smooth.

Would recommend.

The product itself is ver easy to use. Peel off the tape and stick on the TV. Then plug into TV USB port, the light will turn on when TV is on. My only problem is that I should have bought a longer one instead.

This is the medium size. if i tape it around the edge of my TV, it will not cover all edges and leave behind an amount of gap without light. My Tv is Vizio 55 inch 2013 model.

Super easy to put on my 55inch Samsung TV. I have it going around the Top , Left and Right. Does not reach the bottom but thats ok because I just ordered another one for the bottom. Remote comes batterys.

This is the second set of these led lights that I have purchased in the last 2 years. I replaced my TV, and was so happy with the first set, I purchased the same ones for my new TV. The simplicity of installation, strength of the adhesive, and the easy to use remote are my favorite features.

I mostly like being able to select a color using one button on the remote. In practice, although there are several modes where the lights can change intensity and color, I have found that I have never wanted to use them as it’s too distracting while watching TV.

Over the past 2 years, I have only picked a color to enhance the type of programming I’m watching, and change it when I get bored of the color. So don’t pay lots extra for fancy features, you’ll most likely pick a color, leave it for days or weeks, then switch it.

Save yourself $20 to $40 by skipping all the fancy options. you won’t use them.

It’s a nice setup, but the lights don’t work all the time and don’t get very bright when they do work. I do like how easy it was to install. For the amount of money I paid for them you would think it would work well.

It’s a great company they replaced my defective led strip with a new one, I give them a 2 star before but now changed it to a 5 star because they reached out to me. great customer service. I would recommend them to anyone.

I added this to my open shelf on my new TV stand. They are very beautiful however the sticky tape on the back did not hold worth a poop. I did have to go ahead and purchase some double-sided sticky tape to get it to stay on and then figure out the remote but once I did it looks gorgeous I’m happy.

Really nice for the price, I would buy again. I dont like the plastic finish of the light bars, they look really cheap. The govee home app isnt really intuitive. The color accuracy is bad unless you turn saturation down to 0 and brightness to 60% or less then accuracy is good but colors are less vivid.

Camera calibration need improvement. If calibrated per instructions, the led strip will not illuminate the colors that are displayed at the edge of the screen but more like 3/4 of the distance from center to the edges.

I had to calibrate the camera so it looks larger than the screen for the led to illuminate the colors that are displayed on the edges. Youtube videos from other customers helped getting the wanted results.

Syncing other govee lights (i. e Lyra) to the immersion kit is not intuitive, Had to look for youtube videos to figure out. Still really Happy with my purchase. Fix these littles details, keep the same price range and the competiton will fall.

Well if you don’t have it yet get yourself the immersion light kit that gives you two flow bars and a strip light to go around the TV and blast you with colors that radiate from the center of your tv focused from a camera and in sync with the action on your TV screen,,, trust me I know lights and I know a dandy time these things are like candy for your eyes because the thrills of covid bands playing at home and on your wall to match is an experience that is worth not having a ticket to the concert and being at home !!!thanks govee.

You know that I know that you know that it’s great combination to not only have me testing with you but also have the immersion system from govee in your collection collection. Surround and immerse yourself in the action or the music with new intensity sync to the music if you’re into that.

Treat your eyes to a good time and be cooler than the guy that thinks he has it all. well maybe.

These are definitely a “don’t Need but Want” type of product. I love mine, easily controlled via app along with my other LIFX Bulbs. This starter kit gives you almost 80 inches of led strip to work with.

The adhesive it comes with holds up pretty well. The strips are bright enough to light a medium sized room comfortably. I have mine on an 80″x1″x1″ piece of wood and placed them on my curtain rod and lights my room up quite nicely.

Great behind a TV as well. (that’s where I have my other set). You need Wi-fi and a smart device to download the LIFX app which is how you control the colors and brightness. Colors are vibrant and beautiful, even the Whites are awesome.

Added some photos but they won’t do it much justice.

Pros: Bright! Colorful. Awesome color changing options and modes. SMART! you can have these do so much with 3 party apps. From blinking a certain color when you get a notification on a social media websites.

To showing when your uber arrives. SOOOOO many more options. Cons: A little pricey. But not as bad as the competition, and WAY better IMO.

I took a risk, and purchased the open box item for a good price. The product would turn on/off through the app but thats it, it would not control the colors. Tried several reset methods and all gave the same results.

Oh well, live and learn.

I’ve gone through several bias lights over the past few years and none of them were quite right. Some didn’t have true white LEDs, so they casted a sickly, greenish color on the wall. The light I bought just prior to this one had dedicated white LEDs, but the color temperature always looked slightly off to me.

Further research revealed that part of the problem might have been that brand’s low CRI. Looking for a new option that I could control with my phone and integrate into smart home smart scenes led me to MediaLight.

Several years ago when I first discovered the world of bias Lights, I had read about their benefits on the MediaLight website. But at the time, the lights available were priced a little too professionally for my home use case.

This time, I was pleasantly surprised to find the new LX1 which fit my budget. I was extremely impressed with the quick shipping and the high quality of the product. I finally have a bias light that looks “right”, and with the Wi-Fi dimmer, I can control it from my phone and I’ve integrated it into various smart home scenes.

It was also a treat to find out the company is located in NJ, not that far from where I grew up, and close to where I live now, just across the border in NY State. I will definitely recommend MediaLight to my friends, and it will be the first place I look in the future when looking to purchase bias lighting.

There are a lot of options for these type of LED strips and I’m glad I went with the LX1. I had some questions about the best way to install this on my TCL 5 Series TV that has a bump on the lower portion of the TV and Jason was quick to give me his advice.

Installation was easy without too many issues. The corners are a bit fussy to get perfect but the final install turned out great. If you have cables running off the side of your wall mounted TV I would recommend installing the strip on three sides only.

The backlighting highlights some of the business of the cables and I feel installing a fourth side on the bottom edge would only make that worse. With three sides backlit it still looks great and has really upgraded my setup.

Watching TV feels more comfortable and adds a cozier ambiance to the room. The CRI on these strips is as advertised too, I could tell by pointing a cell phone at the tv and the surfaces around it. Low CRI gives off flat sickly color and the LX1 reflects back what you see in daylight.

Extremely happy with this purchase.

Received the product in a timely manner. Installation was straight forward but transitioning around the corners can be a bit tricky. Since one side of my tv is easily visible, the corner install had to look good.

The only mistake I really made was to not look into the remote dimming options. I thought that it would be more of a “set it once and your done” type of situation but that is not the case. We have found that under different lighting conditions in the room, the brightness of the bias lighting on the TV can be adjusted to a different level for a more pleasing effect.

Unfortunately, after the original purchase, it is no longer a cost effective option. At the time of purchase, it would have only been $4. 00 more for the Magic Home WiFi remote, now it would be $14. 95 plus shipping or about $19.

00. I would definitely recommend purchasing the remote dimmer even if you think you may not use it. Better to have it and not use it than pay 4 times the price later.

I love this. Very easy to install and really makes a big difference when watching tv. It easier on the eyes and makes the screen appear more vivid in color. Loved it so much I purchased another one for my other tv.

I’m a sucker for anything with RGB lights, so this was right in my wheelhouse. It’s pretty cool how much more immersive this makes TV viewing, especially if your TV is set up in a dark area of the room! Setup is easy, but be advised that if you TV is wall mounted like mine, it’ll likely have to come down to stick the LED strips on properly.

Once you have access to the back you’ll also want to make sure it’s dust free and then use alcohol wipes to make sure there are no oils or anything that will keep the strips from sticking. The adhesive on these is very strong and seems like they should stick for the long term.

I’ve had some cheaper LED strips that have come loose over time, but these have 3M VHB on the back which is used to install trim on cars, so they shouldn’t be going anywhere. Keep in mind this set is for a 55-65″ TVs and cannot be trimmed down for smaller sets.

Each segment is connected with a thin flexible wire so you don’t need to that trick of folding the corners over at an angle like with cheap light sets. At first I couldn’t figure out how to wrangle the corners so they don’t pop up until I figured out that’s what the plastic clips that came with it are for.

The strips, power and camera all plug into a central box that also sticks to the back of the TV. There’s no chance of a mistake since the lights are USB-C and the camera is regular USB. The whole thing can be controlled by an app, but I would be sure to put the box somewhere you can get to the buttons just in case, especially if there isn’t much clearance between the TV and wall.

The camera that has to go on the top of the TV to read the screen and set the light colors according to what’s on screen. During setup you need to stick some included orange foam targets in the corners and sides of the screen.

I was a little hesitant to stick something on the front of my OLED set, but they came off clean. I would advise sticking them on gently and being careful removing them though! Once you have them set up you can switch between a bunch of different modes in the app.

In addition to the cool immersive effect there are a few static modes and some that are synced with sound. The sound-driven ones are a bit distracting for me, so I don’t use them very often. The immersive effect is really cool.

The camera works with the interface box to assign colors to look like an extension of what’s on screen. It’s most effective at night when it’s dark in the room and keeps the contrast between the set and the darkness around it to a minimum to make it easier on the eyes.

If you’re into home theater or gaming on your big screen this is a great way to put the finishing touch on your setup!.

Before installing this Govee kit I had a cheapo brand I bought online on the back of my tv. It worked for what it was and eventually shorted out because the quality just wasn’t up to par. This kit from Govee is a major step up in quality.

The lights are thick and rubberized and have a medium adhesive backing. Where my old led strip had to be cut and installed into a led coupler of sorts, the Govee kit has a break point at each corner where it’s just normal wire.

Makes it easier to install and easier to center the lights on the back of the TV. Once installed, setup was relatively simple. Connected to my network and calibrated. Because my 65″ tv is so thin, I decided to try to start calibration on the bottom or thicker part of my tv.

When the camera took a picture of the tv to calibrate, I could not see the top of the tv. I went with it anyway and got so-so results. I didn’t want to settle so I moved the camera to the top of the tv, mind you the tv is basically bezel-less on the top so this is against my better judgement.

Same issue as before, the camera could not recognize the bottom of the tv. For the next few days I’ve gone back and forth top and bottom looking online for suggestions and watching youtube vids until I finally settled on the bottom and was able to wedge a piece of of the orange foam in behind the camera backing in order to angle it more towards the top of the tv.

The camera still did not recognize the top of the tv as a whole, but it’s the best I could do. Basically at this point the LED’s at the bottom of the screen do a great job reading color on the screen but the LED’s at the top of the screen mostly stay one hue the whole time.

I question why the camera is made stationary on the stand. Why not put a few small hinges at the camera at the arm and at the base to control the angle better? Instead you have customers searching for solutions by adding foam pieces behind the camera base.

Another issue is when calibrating once you get the blue dots at the tv edges as best as possible, it allows fine tuning with orange dots, however those orange dots are only on the bottom part, none at the top.

Adding the fine tune calibration option to the top would likely solve most of the issue. I’m guessing there’s a reason why this is done this way but maybe an app update could help? The lights lights are strong and used as a static color look amazing, I just assume this kit is not made for all tv’s and some will suffer the same issues I am dealing with.

I’m not giving up on this kit, I’m going to figure out a way to make it work because the immersion at the bottom of my tv looks great, but a few design and app tweaks could make this Govee product a definite buy at this price range.

Such a fun product. Setup is super simple and the app is easy to use, although super packed with features to comb through. Lights are super bright and can be dialed up or down to your liking. Works best with fun, colorful programs or games, I found that using with other, darker or muted types of movies or programs, the lights took me out of the experience on screen.

Adds great visuals and ambience to your room for certain content. You get the RBG strips to affix to the back of your TV, the control box, the fisheye camera for onscreen content, calibration cubes, cable clips and a power supply.

The RGB light strip has an adhesive backing that allows you to secure them to the back of your tv. They are one long string of lights, broken in to four sections for the top/bottom/left/right of the tv, with cable corners to allow for easy positioning.

The camera you can mount either above or below the tv, facing up or down at the screen. If you don’t want to use the real time color shift display feature, you don’t need to mount the camera, but that is one big feature of this product that I will get to later, being able to replicate colors from on screen behind the tv.

When the room is brightly lit, the camera is pretty noticeable since it sticks out beyond the screen by about 4-6 inches. In darker rooms, you don’t really notice it. You plug the lights and camera into the control box, which also has adhesive tape to affix to the back of the tv, and then plug in the power supply.

Next step is downloading the app to finish the setup and start playing around with all the features. App was super simple to install. I installed mine on an iOS device, but it’s available for Android as well.

When in the app, you search for the device, and using wifi and Bluetooth, you will connect to your product’s control box. Once connected you run through the setup configuration and calibrate the camera.

You get foam blocks with small amounts of adhesive to place on the front of the screen in the corners and middle sides and bottom to help with the calibration. The adhesive is very light and does not leave a residue on the screen.

The camera is extreme fisheye due to the proximity of the screen, so the blocks help to identify the corners so you can set the camera to view all the visible screen from top to bottom. After configurations are all done, the app is ready to use and the lights can be set to a myriad of different settings.

The app is huge. There are a ton of settings. Govee has a whole ecosystem of home lighting, all run by this app, so while this product is just one, you can control your whole home lighting setup from this single app.

I won’t go into much detail about the expansive custom settings you can control, as I don’t have any other Govee products at this time, but you can control what product is the dominant Sync Center, which syncs your settings to other lighting products for whole room/house immersion.

You have an effects lab where you can fine tune all the hues of the 13 primary colors and also customize the various default scenes. You can set timers for on/off and sleep. Control the brightness and selects from a variety of Modes: Music – uses an internal mic to change color patterns based on audio for up to 4 settings Video – uses the on screen content to dynamically adjust the lights based on what is playing with options for saturation, white balance, movie or game content, sound effects and full lighting or partial Color – the light strip is divided into 15 separate zones, and you can customize the color for each, by changing the color for all, or specifying which zones should be which color, and even apply gradients Scene – allows you to select between 64 predefined lighting options divided into 4 scenes; Natural, Festival, Life and Emotion DIY – create your own lighting scene Overall the light kit is super fun.

Offers very cool RGB lighting to enhance your viewing. The only issue I had with it was my unit would not discern multiple color hues on screen at one time. The camera seems to pick up the most dominant color on screen, and set the RGBs to that one color, with slight variances from edge to edge.

But even using test pattern content with specific vivid alternate colors on each side of the screen, the RGB lights simply picked one and stuck with it. I was hoping for real detail in the lighting when using Video mode for on screen content, because using other scene modes really shows you how crazy the light show can get, but for me it didn’t happen as much as I would have liked.

But other than that, it’s a very cool product to liven up your home viewing, and with Govee’s expansive home ecosystem, allows you to build a truly custom home lighting setup.

I took my time and read the directions completely. Cleaning the back of your TV before affixing the light strips is paramount. Placing the strips temporarily with tape will insure everything fits perfectly.

The finished product is nothing short of stunning. The lights really do enhance the quality of the picture and are infinitely adjustable. It’s fun to play around to find what looks best in your TV room.

I have it 4 stars rather than 5 simply bc I don’t think they are actually quite as bright or vivid as the image. That being said, still a very good product for the money. I bough these for my teenage son to put around his tv.

He and I “installed” them in a matter of seconds! Super easy! He loves them. He’s happy, I’m happy!.

Glad to say that this worked out nice on my LG OLED65E6. Only negative is that the instructions could have been a bit better. Pictures are too small and instructions are not clear. You’ll have to figure out some things on your own like match the arrows on the connections.

The arrows on one connector should face the arrow on the other connector. Otherwise no problems.

Great product with many features: many colors, many color cycle styles (strobe, breath, etc), many speeds. Only downside is that you have to use the remote to turn on the lights. Would’ve been a nice feature if they just turned on when the TV turned on.

If you are looking to get Awesome LED lights that sync with sound & visuals but are in a budget. Then this would be the way to go! Same Concept as Phillips hue lights but less expensive! Connects with Google home/Alexa & WiFi/Bluetooth.

Controlled by phone with Govee app. Split second latency with sync but you’d hardly notice. P. S you will have to add a camera that comes equipped onto your tv for synchronization to the visuals.

These work great! Bit odd having to use a camera that overhangs (or points up towards from underneath depending on how your orientate it) to get the colors on screen for that mode, but I barely even notice it’s there and it works a treat.

Lots of customization options and presets available in the app and I can toggle it on and off using a phone widget. Would recommend if you’re looking for a cheaper lighting option that functions very well for the price point and don’t want to pay Philips Hue money for a similar effect.

Installing MediaLight Mk2 bias lighting dramatically improved the cinematic viewing experience (that’s the only thing I tested) on a newly installed and calibrated Sony XR-83A90J OLED TV. While it is a known that bias lighting improves perceived contrast and color, it is less well known that it reduces eye fatigue,sometimes dramatically so.

For high brightness sets like the Sony A90J, I consider it is a must. The “kit” is furnished with the accessories most likely to be needed for any installation and allow several thoughtful options to integrate the lights into the overall installation.

It s a welcome change from typical bias lighting products that I have used and come to expect (dread). In operation, the fine dimming control allows the lights to be matched exactly to the setting and room and balanced with other lighting.

Though the installation is too new for me to comment on reliability, the apparent care and thought that went into their design and construction implies that reliability will be there as well. Time will tell.

The online installation and use guidance is also noteworthy. At several points it answered questions that had earlier occurred to me. I’ve used bias lighting in prior applications, but none have been as easy to use, as economical, or as well supported as the Media Light Mk2.

The company’s very generous warranty policy also provides extra confidence to those with less experience integrating aftermarket components. They essentially say: If you botch the installation or damage a component, contact us and we’ll likely replace the damaged components under warranty.

This will make your viewing experience 100x’s better. Best purchase I’ve ever made!! I plan on getting more for every TV in my house!

Quality product. Be sure to clean the area of dust you wish adherence before applying this strip. The remote is a little tricky but can be mastered with perseverance. instructions would certainly help.

The light set is nice, connects easily but like most people say the adhesive is poor. I cleaned the tv. The lights stay 1-2 days and pops right off again.

A good price for it but it wasnt long enough to go around on the back of my 50 inch tv. Maybe for a 32 inch it would be a good length.

My daughter loves this in her room. Before this I just had string lights in blue and white. She loved those too but wanted something different. These are perfect cause she can change the color. The remote works great and easily changes the colors.

We attached these to the back of our gaming tv in our library and hooked it directly into the house TV. We love it because whenever we watch TV or play games, we have a special burst of color. I especially love how we can change colors or choose a specific color to display.

I loge this product. It has a plethora of colors and brightness settings. About 6 months after purchasing this, some of the individual lights went red and won’t turn back. I emailed them at they immediately offered to replace for free! That’s top notch customer service and I’m so happy with this product.

Oh my goodness best edition to our living room. Easy to apply to the back of the tv and easy to set up. We leave them on all the time and LOVE utilizing the microphone musical feature!! 10/10 would buy again!.

Only thing, the corner wire is tough to manipulate in some places. May require extra tape or support. Other than that. Perfect

Phillips hue Lighting is one of – if not the best on the market for whole-home lighting. While it is not the biggest in price to performance we might be shocked to find out that it poses a bigger value than originally anticipated.

Let’s start with the Home Ecosystem – this works with google home and apple home with EASE! I originally had Homekit as my original Home ecosystem however I switched to google because I prefer the ecosystem better and it has better integration with my Nest Cameras.

However, this isn’t about google home or Homekit! The lights are easily broken up into rooms to be called on at any moment be it lights on/off, change color, brightness, or if you have them integrated into your routine they can be controlled on a light-by-light basis giving you maximum control.

The Phillips Hue App – This is how all apps should be, you could be convinced that this is a product owned by apple as it is THAT refined. The app gives you full home accessibility with or without a whole smart home ecosystem and it works QUICK.

You can automate the lights to go on or off at times or when you come/leave home using a geolocator (the location of your phone vs the activation circle of your home) and to my surprise, it was pretty accurate.

The LED lights/strips themselves are quite bright – enough that they can not be above 25% at night even as a walkway light, so do not fear that they will not fill up a room because they will. the Build quality is great and I have never received one that didn’t work (and I have well over 10 bulbs, 7 or 8 strips, enough to know) out of the box.

The only caveat I have against the lights is particularly against the LED strips and the 3m tape. It is great for MOST applications however on soft surfaces or the back of some TV’s you will need to use another adhesive (I use alien tape or a good double-sided sticky) to make them stick long term.

The lights are also all well sized and well cabled so if you don’t want anyone to see a light in your kitchen they never will! Warranty – I did have to warranty one LED strip because it would light up two different colors (and no these lights don’t have gradient built into them unless you get the wall LED’s that specifically state they have gradient color lighting) when it was supposed to only be white so therefore I had my first RMA.

It was effortless and smooth with zero complaints. There was no RMA hero as it was just a quick call and easy process. Longevity – I have had bulbs going on 4 years of everyday use and they still are just as bright as my newer bulbs and as far as LED strips none of mine have started to fade or have diodes die.

Overall – I couldn’t recommend these lights more for a cohesive integration into everyday life. While they might be on the more expensive side of Lights you get what you pay for here and you can do some funky stuff with them – for instance, I use the exterior LED lights inside because it is easy to make cool quick wall art out of them.

If you are going to spend the money to convert your whole home over to a light eco system, spend the money and do it right so you never have to do it again. Phillips Hue stands behind their products and so do I.

Decent product. It’s not as great as Philips would have you believe. Perhaps if you lived in an Ikea ad with pure white furniture against pure white satin sheen walls with nothing hanging on the walls or sitting anywhere near your tv, the dynamic impact would be better, but if you don’t live in an all-white sterile environment, the effect is not very noticeable at all.

There are two big problems with this product: 1. It does not illuminate below the bottom of the screen at all. This leaves out roughly ⅓ of the screen’s perimeter and makes the 3-sides only effect uneven and wonky.

2. The sizes listed on the light strip aren’t sized properly for most modern screens. We have a 65” LG CX OLED which should have been an easier fit than most TVs of the same screen size as these LGs, as with most other OLEDs, have nearly zero bezel or frame surrounding the screen.

Philips’ installation instructions state that the light strip should run the full perimeter of the left, right, and top sides, and that it should be positioned between 5 & 10 cm from the outside edge of the TV (so, roughly 2-4” from the outside edge at most).

Instead, the 65” light strip only covers a portion of the 65” OLED’s screen. We had to pull off and reattach the adhesive holders several times to stretch things as much as we could, but in the end, we only managed to get each side to extend down to about 8 inches from the bottom and to get this much of the sides covered, had to move the light strip inward to around 10 inches from the outer edge and even then had to go with a very large radius curve away from the corners to have enough slack to at least make it functional.

This means the light strip sits around 4-5 times further from the outer edge of the TV than it is designed to do. This drastically reduces the outward spread of the illumination and in turn causes the colors to blend together.

For the VERY expensive price tag, Phillips needs to address both the bottom and sizing issues. In the meantime, if you have a 65 inch OLED, buy the 75 inch light strip.

The most expensive lights you will ever buy most likely (next to a proper chandelier). They look incredible though, but the biggest caveat is you need the hue play device which is essentially an HDMI hub to take advantage of the color sync features.

It makes sense, how could you have a color responsive system without it getting color data from something. So HDMI is what sends it color info to sync, but good luck finding a Hue Play device in stock.

This separate base station is $250-300 and is not manufactured currently. So sort of a dead product unless you just want a light strip behind your TV (which you can get for $40 or less with WiFi and the same no-sync features).

If somehow this became a software update that does not require a HDMI hub base station that acts as a passthrough for all my devices, I’d update the review to 4 stars, but still not 5. To be 5 stars, I need to be able to use the color-sync feature with my consoles, and my Smart TV media apps (not FireStick, or Chromecast, again you need an HDMI in between the TV > Hue Play > Console/FireStick).

In addition, the Hue Play hub is just not even for sale so this is an incomplete product as it is. But the colors do look nice, and are exceptionally high quality. Just not worth nearly $200+ for being a dummy strip.

Phillips is out of their collective minds if they assume this will make them money without a software update. And you will need to have available power behind your TV, i. e. run a power cable/extension cord through the wall mounting otherwise you have no way to light a wall mounted TV without having exposed, dangling cables below the TV.

I rarely write negative reviews, especially for small businesses like this one. I found the customer service and delivery time excellent. The high CRI and general light quality of the 6500k lights I bought were perfect for my digital darkroom.

I had the 1 meter Mk2 strip running behind the edge of my desk which sits apprx 6 inches from the wall behind it. This gave a great soft illumination on the wall behind my Eizo monitor which I use for photo editing.

For the first couple days everything was working fine, but when I most recently unplugged the USB from the back of my macmini I noticed the strip detaching from the dimmer switch portion of the light.

A few days later the light ceased to work at all. I’m always extremely careful with my gear and handled the strip light gently during unboxing and application. It may be that I had a defective strip, or that I just wasn’t careful enough with the extremely delicate strip light itself.

My advice to prospective buyers would be to be extremely careful handling the light, and to make sure it’s applied correctly the first time so you don’t have to touch them again afterwards.

These LED’s are bright, and highly directional. While their bloom is big in the direction they are facing, it also wont light up your desk like a spot light. You only get some bounce off the wall which isn’t much.

Unfortunately I can only use these with the extension, they might go even brighter, but even if they don’t it is still plenty. Compared to the bulb I was using before, which worked fine for years this is a lot better.

The bulb was all directions, so things could get very bright, even on my desk. At least without tweaking. These LED’s cannot be tweaked colorwise, so if your eyes are used to a white that is a tiny bit redder (like 5k) it will appear hospital blue till your eyes adjust.

If you have a monitor desk mount that isn’t centered it will cast a shadow, but it is not noticeable when sitting in front of the screen but could be a problem if you sit further for media consumption, not something any bias like can go around.

That said the shadow it casts has multiple layers which is different than a single layer bulb. My TLDR; I wish I had gotten the wall plug model for more brightness, but these are good still.

The light really helps see the colors better when correcting color on photos. I haven’t worked on any videos yet, but the same should apply. You definitely don’t want the color temperature of the room affecting what your eyes are as white and then it looks different at different times of the day.

The add-on roll of gaffer tape was a huge help too. I don’t mind permanently attaching the MediaLight I added on my TV, but I want to keep the resale value up on my iMac for when it’s time to upgrade.

The gaffer tape should come off easy with no residue.
