Updated July 14, 2022 – Changing my review from 5 stars to 1 stars. So, after enjoying the TV for a little bit over a year, the TV suddenly stopped working. I tried all the resets possible and all I get is 5 blinking red light.

I immediately contacted Sony support who tells me that unfortunately, there is only a one year warranty on the unit and then provided me with the contact information of some authorized repair centers in my area.

I called some places to get a quote or to get some guidance on how to fix the TV but the standard response I received was to bring the TV in for them to troubleshoot. It didn’t seem like they really wanted to help me troubleshoot the issue which I understand as they would rather fix it and make money.

Given that the TV was out of warranty, I decided to open it up. There are 3 main components inside beside the expensive panel: the TCON board, the main board and then the power board. I was able to find the Sony repair manual for the TV which stated that the 5 blinking lights would most likely be for this unit, a bad TCON board but could also be a bad panel and less likley a bad main board or power board.

I first replaced the TCON board but that did not fix the issue. Next I replaced the main board, no luck there either, and then I replaced the power board which did not fix it. Unfortunately for me , it appears that the panel is defective.

I called many places to inquire about the panel, including some authorized Sony repair center and they all told me that Sony does not sell the panel and even if they did, it would be almost as expensive as a new TV and recommended that I get a new TV at this point.

So long story short, this TV which has a retail value of $2000+ lasted only 14 months. Sony would not do anything about it and it is not repairable. If you decide to get this TV, I highly recommend getting some kind of extended warranty so you don’t end up like me.

I have been a Sony fan for decades but this is probably the last Sony item I will ever get. The products might still be great but the customer service is terrible. Once the unit is out of warranty, Sony will not work with you unlike other companies I dealt with in the past.

The TV is gorgeous, the picture is stunning when it worked but a high end TV like this A80J should not stop working after 14 months. I understand that there are defective units every now and then but Sony should work with the consumers to get it resolved and not just tell us that there is nothing they can do as the unit is out of warranty.

Original review – I currently have a 2020 Sony 65’’ LED that I purchased last year for the living room. It is not the best one but I needed a TV with a good viewing angle because we have an open space living room and often watch tv while eating on the dinner table located on the other of the room.

We initially wanted to upgrade to an LG OLED but after learning that Sony is actually getting the OLED panels from LG and enhancing the TV by including their technology, we decided to upgrade our LED TV to this Sony A80J OLED because we get the best from both companies in one TV.

Well, we were not disappointed at all and are so glad we made the upgrade. Our LED TV was thin but this one is much thinner but surprisingly, it is almost as heavy as our old 65 LED TV, just lighter by a few pounds.

I am never a huge fan of the stock TV legs so I installed a solid Sanus TV base instead that strongly holds the TV preventing any accidents. Not only does this new TV have great viewing angle like our previous one but the picture quality of this Sony OLED is stunning.

The blacks are perfect and it is a jaw dropping experience watching an action movie on this new television. Another huge upgrade is the sound quality coming out of this TV. Everything is night and day compared to our Sony LED.

We still have the TV hooked up to a 7. 1 receiver but the sound coming out from the TV is far superior from our center speaker so we decided to use the add the TV speakers to the surround sound system.

As for the interface and applications, we were already familiar with it as it is identical to our previous Sony TV. Connecting the TV to the internet and to our google system was also a breeze. All in all, this is hands down the best television I have ever owned and it goes without say that it is getting a perfect 5 stars rating from me.

Well, after much reading and in-store display viewing, I chose the Sony – 50″ Class BRAVIA XR X90J Series LED 4K UHD Smart Google TV. I got it on sale before Christmas. After having 2 Sony Bravias before (both were 10 years old and 40″ due to one being stolen in a break-in), this was certainly an upgrade.

The extra “10 inches” certainly is a bigger picture and more detailed view of things. I can see more details like fine lines and spots on people’s faces with greater definition. not that this is my reason for upgrading.

The picture, in some cases, is definitely clearer and brighter, especially commercials and sports channels. I have my TV hooked up through eArc and my Onkyo amplifier. I only listen to sound through my stereo system and JBL speakers.

The TV sound by itself is quite good. Sony seems to have an upper hand with sound. I do not have a soundbar. After many settings in my amplifier and the television, I finally got things synced. It was not an easy task! I find that everyday viewing is just so-so.

My 40″ was much better in clarity. The picture has a kind of wash-out to everything I watch unless it is a high definition broadcast. Even HDR is a little washed out. I’ve actually gone and checked to see if there’s a layer of plastic or something still on the screen to make it clearer, but there’s nothing on the screen.

I’ve switched to the Vivid setting for everything and had to tone it down because it is just really bright and hurts my eyes after a while. There are times when movement is a little blurred and the definition is not crisp enough for a $900 TV.

The other settings of Cinema and Standard just look darker and dull. I don’t get all the fuss about those settings. I just want well-defined images and clarity. Maybe I don’t know what I’m doing with settings, but you can easily get lost in them trying to find the ultimate setting that is an “aha!” moment.

I find that after too many changes, I’ve had to go back and reset to factory settings, only to have the same thing happen again. I’ve read many reviews and people say the same things: too many settings and not getting really what they wanted.

Professional reviews give it high accolades. Commoners like me might know the profound and excellent features they found. All in all, it is a huge upgrade for me, but the fact is I’m past 30 days return and I guess I’m stuck with it.

I’m not one to settle, so I’ll keep reading and finding the best setup for my den and viewing situation. It is one of the very top performers of 2021, so I at least “settled” for a top-seller and highly reviewed product.

Spend a lot of time reviewing and determining what you want first. Then go and find the TV that fits your standards. There are other brands that might be cheaper and easier to setup.

Been wanting to upgrade but loved my plasma and didn’t want to put up with the motion blur from newer TV’s. I did debate between this 5 series TCL and the 6 series because the 5 is only 60hz. However, my built in cabinet wasn’t wide enough for a 55.

so the decision was made for me, 50″ it is with the 5 series. I also looked at the Sam which costs easily twice but couldn’t justify the cost. Decided that it was time though. I had a Roku Ultra attached to the old one and decided to skip using it and go straight to the TCL with Roku built in.

First, Best Buy was super easy, literally ordered online, drove up in front of the store, checked in and the guy loaded it for me. Time at the store – less than 5 minutes and no loading woes. Nice job there! Got home and brought it inside, I was appreciative of the handles on the side of the box for sure.

Got it out and assembled the feet. Gently pulled off the tape protectors on the edges of the TV. Plugged the electric and ethernet in as well as the external antenna coax. There ya go, done. Hardest part was not liking the cheap remote.

Thankfully, I had purchased a Roku Voice Remote Pro already and easily paired it for a much nicer setup. I totally recommend this, it WILL make you enjoy the TV more. Out of the box the picture was really nice.

In fact, upgrading from the 42 to the 50, while didn’t sound like much in theory, I was a little surprised at the difference and it made my head a bit swimmy. The picture was so good, I didn’t miss my plasma like I thought I would.

Only tweak I did make was I changed a setting for smoother motion. I did not change any color settings or use IPQ, was very nice right out of the box. Sound is very good, no distortion. I also like using my remote with the headphones (again, get the better remote).

It is plenty loud in the room and I do not have a soundbar or other external speakers. Wired or Wireless setup is a breeze. Most everything else is too. Especially if you already had a Roku. Though, I swear the TV Roku menu is slower than my Ultra was.

Both were hard wired to a gig of download, so there were no changes in internet. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend, maybe even someone I didn’t like. The simple remote might be a plus for those remote and technology challenged in our lives, simply because it has so few buttons and the ones on there are straightforward.

I did a couple weeks of homework on various makes and models of televisions in the 50″ to 55″ mid-price range. I concluded that TCL’s Roku QLED was a good choice and it had the number of inputs I needed for my home setup.

I have only had the TCL running in the house for about a week but no obvious issues or setup complaints. I have had Roku in our house on other streaming devices so I was already familiar with the graphics.

(I was leaning toward Roku because of the ease of use for our household. ) Suggestions for others considering this TCL TV. 1) I chose to purchase a universal center stand and not have to install the included legs.

The included legs require a wide piece of furniture which did not fit my current living room setup. 2) I chose to purchase a Roku voice remote. The cost is minimal as the included remote control lacks the voice feature.

Very good decision as I enjoy the flexibility to control the TV. 3) I re-evaluated my current HDMI cables. I found I had a poor quality one in the mix and purchased a new one. After all the picture and sound for connected equipment are only as good as the cables.

4) I was surprised but TCL did include the VESA screws. My universal mount worked perfectly once I noticed the screws were already screwed into the VESA mounting holes on the back of the TV. (All I had to do was unscrew them and complete the mounting setup.

) I would purchase this TV without hesitation.

most of the reviews on this product were accurate. I will not talk about the complexity of changing the picture for each specific app or why it will often change to closed captioning when not requested – you can see that in other reviews.

But I will focus on is the picture. Overall, it is a decent 4K television for the money. There are not too many options in this specific size, so this is probably your best bet for the price. As a Roku TV it is also easy to use and to set up, especially since we already had an account.

However, the picture is not perfect and in some scenes I have noticed two specific problems that bother me. The first is that there will be distortion and strange blooming affects when the contrast is fairly significant.

You will see some slight halos and odd geometric patterns on walls in certain scenes that are simply a reflection of the cheap panel. Sometimes the colors are way over-saturated despite changing the settings to dampen it.

It is at these moments when I realize it is a cheap television. The speakers of course are meh, and it will sometimes “crash” unexpectedly requiring a reboot—not too often, luckily, but it happens. Overall, I still recommend it—just don’t go into this television thinking it’s top of the line.

It’s not.

Don’t get fooled with Sony and Samsung’s “Trick or Treat” gimmicks. I purchased the Flagship Sony A90J 55inch and was sooooo let down with pretty much everything it offered that I returned it for an even bigger Upgrade the Flagship Qn900A Samsung 65 8k set.

I very much love Samsung and never had any problems with any tvs over the years until this 8k set. The 8k is amazing, its the best picture quality hands down. But there is limited 8k content and the Screen had this Strange yellowish circular ball that was offset in the center of the screen That ruined the TV for me and for anyone else that would get this model.

Plus it had this strange dimming feature that was never active but yet the screen would dim itself so low yet dim itself so low out of nowhere it was only on a few settings I believe it was standard in cinema and I made sure that none of the ecosystems were on and they were off! I had nothing adjusting the brightness but yet the glitch of the TV would automatically adjust to the room so that was another reason to ditch the TV.

Then I got the Best overall Tv ever the LG G1 65inch. Its perfection in everyway possible. It takes your breath away every time your watching or using the TV. After adjusting a few settings the TV was perfect! Plays Call of Duty the best out of all the sets Sony would be the 2nd best.

Films and movies on the G1 are are so amazing that when compared to Sony and Samsung it destroys them even but together it will destroy them the overall picture quality on the G1 is something to behold if you are gonna spend any money on upgrading your TV and you’re thinking about the Sony or Samsung trust me you want to get the LG G1 you will be disappointed in fine errors and Sony and Samsung sets like I did.

I didn’t want to find any errors on those sets but they were flawed. Plus the Sony TVI purchased didn’t come with the flagship sticker that’s on the TV which I thought was very strange considering watching all the reviews of the T v’s on YouTube that every TV had the flagship sticker on it and since mine didn’t and I even called Sony and then never returned my phone call and the guy on the phone told me that that was very strange that every TV that you buy should have that flagship sticker on it and since it didn’t that I was gonna get a phone call back that never happened I never have received a phone call from Sony they must not care about their customers because they don’t care about me at all They never even called.

Thankfully Best Buy and the Magnolia team handled everything so well that made my experience so much more greater than it could be. I had major problems with both of my tvs (the Sony and Samsung) I went in there and Matt and the crew handled all the returns so well that I would recommend buying anything from those guys and if you ever had any problems with anything you can trust in the team there! Great job to the Bestbuy and Magnolia Crew for helping and being great at what they do.

I have waited to review until we had a few months to shake this thing down and find all the bugs and there are many! This new Visio-58″ Class M7 Series Premium Quantum LED 4K UHD Smart TV is replacing a Visio-55 Class M Quantum LED 4K UHD TV that we had for the last 6 years that the screen had a section of pixels fail so we had to replace it.

That 55″ Visio was the best TV we ever owned with the absolute best picture quality that I have ever seen bar none, so it was a no brainer for us to go with the Visio model that replaced it, we didn’t wait to look at one we just ordered it and had it shipped to us.

BIG MISTAKE, to start with they moved all of the connections and controls from the left of the TV to the right which meant that all of my cables had to be removed from the entertainment center and re-routed which was a big PIA.

The next thing that put me off was it only had only 3 HDMI ports and 1 HDMI (eARC) port for connecting the sound bar, what this means is we have to unplug something in order to connect our gaming console each time we want to play, the old TV had 4 HDMI ports.

Next thing we noticed was there were no RCA inputs or outputs which means we can’t connect our old VHS player to this new TV to watch our old home videos. Now lets talk about functionality; First thing is the picture quality is no where even close to the quality of the old TV and to us is barely acceptable, we have adjusted this thing to death trying to get a better picture but after working on it several days and having a Tech.

out to help with the set up this is as good as it gets. The next thing is the controls are sluggish and most times the volume will skip several levels going up or down and it drops the sound bar connection or just won’t establish a connection at all and all we can do is restart the TV and hope it works.

The menu is missing a lot of the Streaming Apps that we use and even the Tech. couldn’t get them to down load even though we were told that we could. The next thing that I am going to gripe about is the loss of communication between the TV and the UVerse box, again we have to reboot the TV to make the connection.

The last thing is the joke of a remote that came with this TV, it has been streamlined with minimal controls and has been switched to a Quasi App based remote which may or may not be better but I’m an Old Dog and I don’t like new tricks so we just continued using the Remote from our old 55″ and that makes life a lot easier for us.

The one positive thing I can say about this new TV is it’s very light, 1/2 the weight of the old 55″. I do not recommend this TV at all, best advice is to go into your TV center and check them out in person for functionality, sound and picture quality and make an informed choice, don’t assume like we did.

If like me, you prefer a viewing experience that is truly cinematic in nature as opposed to ultra realistic, this VIZIO smart TV would be a good option at an entry level price point for a big screen.

We have also chosen to pair this TV with the VIZIO V-Series 5. 1 surround sound and find the entire setup to be adequate, while creating a pleasurable viewing experience. Unlike a majority of TV consumers, I do not prefer an ultra realistic cinematic “quality” in a media display or TV.

When viewing a program or movie, I dislike feeling like I am in the same room as the actors where it just feels too real & detracts from a truly cinematic experience. For example, when viewing shows such as Chicago Med / PD / Fire, etc.

I prefer a good quality resolution as well as a distinguishable cinematic trait that reminds me that this is a film & not so much a sit in interview with the actors on set. I am just not into hyper realism.

Prior to acquiring this VIZIO model, I had purchased a similarly priced & competitive offering from Samsung (7000 series Crystal UHD) and was immediately off-put by the picture. Even after toning down the sharpness & customizing the settings, 30 minutes later my whole family had the same reaction in regard to the Samsung’s screen attributes.

Eye strain! Contrarily with this VIZIO model, I spent roughly 15-20 minutes performing basic adjustments to the settings and we were promptly watching & enjoying the same programs with no eye strain.

Call me old school, but in my opinion, the ever advancing technological picture “upgrades” in a lot of today’s TV offerings simply take away from the Cinematic experience as a whole. In closing, if you prefer a picture that distinguishes film from reality, and at a reasonable cost, this just may be the right TV for your viewing pleasure.

Cons: The TV remote is very basic / borderline featureless, and the sound quality of the TV speakers are fair at best. All of which is to be expected & well warranted at this price point.

The Hisense Uled 4k is the most stunning, vibrant, sharp, and most clear sounding television experience me and my family and friends have experienced to date. This past weekend with UFC fight night we found ourself lost into new vibrant colors.

Our past television failed to deliver to new standards that the Uled Hisense has brought to our viewing experience. With the crystal clear sound of every punch and kick we heard with the Dolby atmos features the television has to offer.

The sharpness in the quality of the fighters were brought to life in every walk out has our minds blown and amazed that this powerful television made such a difference in experiencing how up to standard other brands should be up to par with the new Hisense UlE4k.

I just bought this tv and couldn’t be more pleased. Extremely easy to set up. Took less than 10 min from start to finish. The sound on the TV is good if you chose not to do a sound bar. Colors are vibrant.

I don’t game but watch sports and stream tv. This has been great for both. I love the Google OS. It’s very intuitive and simple to set up. Overall I couldn’t be happier!.
