20 Best Twist Lock Gel (2022 Updated)

I initially bought this gel to smooth my roots before I braid my hair for knotless braids. It did not hold as well as I hoped, it quickly became frizzy and loose. It help for 5 minutes. I don’t know how it would hold for other styles as I didn’t experiment in that area.

It also has a strong perfume scent, it’s pleasant but overbearing.

I absolutely love this product for retwisting my LOCs. The hold is great & I also use it as an edge control. I love this product so much that Wynn it was on sale buy two get one free I jumped on it and stocked up.

So far this is a great product! It has great hold and great shine. I would definitely recommend. I just bought a second jar.

The best locking gel i used thus far! I just started my locs yesterday and it’s not greasy, doesn’t flake, not sticky but holds firm! Some people say this loc gel flakes but the trick with any locing gel is to use a spray bottle and have your hair damp/wet and then apply the gel.

I hope they don’t ever change the formula because i will use this for life! It has natural ingredients and not too many ingredients which is a win for me!.

I gave this a try with a loc retwist. it gave a nice hold and it dries pretty fast. THe scent is pineapple, and guava. If you don’t like the scent the product will drive you crazy. I loved it. I wouldn’t recommend mixing this product with any other product during the retwist.

Use it by itself.

I have been using Lion Locs products for a month now and I never knew my dreadlocks could be so soft. My dreads are 4years old and I have thick Mexican hair and a dandruff problem. The co wash shampoo is magic.

Not only does it get out my dandruff it makes my dreads so soft! My scalp loves the growth oil, soaks right in. I now realize the products I was using before really dried out my hair and made my dandruff worse! I will be using Lion Locs for the rest of my dreadlocks journey.

A little goes a long way! I use the locking moisturizer just on my roots when I retwist or style my locs. Also good for lightly laying down fly aways along the hairline between washings. I just use a dab of this and then tie down with a scarf for 5-10 minutes.

No build up, lint, or residue since I’ve used it the past year. Excellent!.

Lion loc has terrible customer service. I order $75 wroth of product I never received. When I contacted them to let them know, they said there was nothing they could do due to the fact their delivery company said it was delivered.

When asked for a refund they refused, asked if they can replace my order and send it to a different address they refused. This is truly poor customer service at it best. Their only suggestion was to repurchase more of their product at a discounted rate which basically mean give me more of your money to f*** you over.

I mean why would I feel comfortable ordering anything from this company knowing how bad I was treated the first time.

This stuff is AMAZING on locks. My man has very coarse hair and natrual hair! So it will most likely work on both loose and tight curls. We have been using Mango twist. With this one I only have to lock his hair every 2 weeks but with any other one it’s every week.

This stuff is BOSS. If you are having trouble with your locks definitely give this stuff a go! I got ours from Amazon for like 12 or under.

This is pretty much like a huge jar of edge control. It smells nice and will give you a sleek look, but I must stress that this is not a traditional gel. I would only use this to install braids and other protective styles for a sleek finish.

But this isn’t it for the wash n go/twist out/braid out natural. This does give shine and some extra moisture though!.

This was abosultely amazing. I recently learned to braid my own hair and this helped with gripping and making the sections neat. The entire castor oil line is really great for protective styling. You can even use this to do your edges.

This gel is just okay in winter, but it’s awesome for humid Missouri summers. I use it with Giovanni 2chic Pineapple shampoo and conditioner, as the Ouidad shampoo and conditioner have an ingredient my hair doesn’t like.

I use the Curly Girl application method. I can get at least an extra two days out of my hair with this gel and sometimes three. It reminds me of Biotera gel as far as making my hair feel moisturized rather than dry/crunchy, only it has more hold than Biotera.

After trying different products to find a replacement for the Deva gel I used for years, this will be my go-to gel in the summer.

Out of everything in this whole line and brand, this product was personally my favorite. The white Essential line has such a nice smell that’s very clean and citrus and refreshing (compared to the others that I despise).

However, it’s very soft hold. I live in Florida, and I was expecting a little more hold to be honest. I had beautiful hair the first day but the 2nd and 3rd my hair was “too soft” to last. Worth a try but again, with most curly hair products it’s trial and error.

This wasn’t for me.

I received this product in exchange for my honest thoughts and feedback from another company. I have thick and curly hair, it was long but fell out due to health issues so now it’s at an awkward length that I hate! I rarely wear it natural because of this.

But I tried this gel on damp hair right after getting out of the shower with no other products or any heat tools. Wow! Impressed! My hair is so soft and full with a beautiful curl pattern! No crunch, I can run my fingers through it.

And the smell is subtle and pleasant. It took such little product that this bottle will last such a long time; and at the price point ($9. 99) is seriously a steal (since it’s a Ouidad company). I have never had a gel like this, I am in love and will be a future customer.

I’ve used L’Oreal’s “Lock-It” gel for years, and they’ve now discontinued it with no warning (or I would have stocked up for life!). This new product is not at all a substitute or replacement for “Lock-It” and did absolutely nothing to hold my short, spiky haircut in place, or even last long enough to style it and use another product to set it.

I love this L’Oreal Studio Line hair gel! This hair works great and is amazing. I have super curly hair and love using this gel in it. The gel is not super heavy and doesn’t build-up in your hair like most other hair gels.

It’s a good quality product at an affordable price. I have been using L’Oreal studio hair gel for many years now. I will continue to buy L’Oreal studio hair gel in the future.

I have 3a/b curls. Been straightening for a few years and now back to staying curly. This product isn’t really a gel, it’s more of a cream and even looks like a cream coconut product. I’m not a fan of heaping product in my hair; after watching a few videos, it seems to be the way to go for defined, non-frizzy curls.

I can apply this generously to my hair and there isn’t a weighty or sticky feel once my hair has dried which is great! Its also packed with fruit, flower and nut oils so I’m not worried about applying this generously (or so I feel its generous but this is considering I only ever used to apply a light oil to my hair before) It doesn’t seem to form a strong cast that I’m expecting yet I have had decent results but I’m still playing around with this product and its most likely that after years of straightening, it’s my hair that’s in need of deep treatments to eradicate the frizz once and for all otherwise I do get nice, defined curls from this product.

I’ve also been able to use this on dry hair and been able to finger-coil hair but at this point, you will feel some residue once it’s dried, although it doesn’t show so perhaps regulate the amount used on dry hair.

Its a generous sized tub at a fair price. I personally don’t like the smell of shea or cocoa butters or coconut oil so was afraid of the after effects but had no need to worry. Plus it doesn’t leave a strong smell in your hair either once it’s dried, it’s subtle if anything.

I currently use it with the Cantu Hair Custard. I apply that first to soaking wet hair, then apply the Twist n Lock Gel. They both seem to do the trick. Curls stay for most of the day.

I’ve been using this product now for a few months. I have type 4b hair so I my hair takes real good to it cause it’s kinda curly. Makes my twists look tight and stretchy and nice looking. Definitely recommend!.

I love Rasta Locks line of products. Although I use Murray’s Iver this I like to mix some of this in when retwisting my man or my sons hair. Thicker jelly like texture and love the mango / lime smell.

Just recently started dreads in one of my sons head and this product does wonders ! No yucky build up ! Great smell ! No sticky fingers when done doing the hair! Very reasonably priced about $6 a jar ! One jar last for about 5 retwist so I would say about $1 of product during each application on the head which is cheap as heck ! Definitely recommend over using bees wax !.

I really like this gel to be honest. It’s the first I’ve used that doesn’t give a lot of buildup, doesn’t flake, doesn’t leave your hair feeling like hardened bread (unlike most actually) and most importantly, Leaves your hair looking naturally and effortlessly styled!.

It’s nice. All you have to do is apply it, brush it down and then boom! You’re done. BUT it also does something else. It ITCHES! Terribly. Since i bought this gel (which is my first time of buying it) I’ve had so much discomfort that I’ve had to wash my hair twice this week (i don’t usually do this since my hair needs it’s natural oils) but each time i apply it, it just itches the hell outta my head till i wash it off! I love the look it gives, i love how Easy it is to apply it but I’m not going to exchange my comfort for some gel.

Nope. I just don’t think it’s worth it. For those who were wondering, yes, i always started with freshly washed hair. It just was the same everytime.

This is a large jar. This is a must-have product for me. I have 3a hair, fine, easily frizzed, hard to manage, shoulder-length, dark brown and white mixed. The white hair is a different texture, so that makes it even harder to get a good controlled curl/wave.

This product is amazing. I use it on wet or dry hair, usually once my hair is almost styled. Smell is a fresh, pleasant citrus floral. Lasts a long time. Love this. Economical. Please, don’t stop making this.

This is BY FAR the best gel if you want a good curl formation, no friz, absolutely no crunch and a natural look with no hardiness. I dont know how this works but it sure does with no greasy residue or heavy feeling.

Its like magic. you will not feel it in your hair. The Activator by Cantu was heavy. this gel is NOT. It might fool you in the jar but this gel product is the BEST I have ever used. I use Cantu curl cream and then twist n lock.

They have figured it out. great curl hold. no stiffness or crunch. awesome.

My hair type is wavy but then there’s times where I wake up with straight hair or times where I wake up with curly hair. My baby hairs always curl up if I don’t put them down but the rest of my hair is up to itself I guess lol.

This product is amazing. I’m a sucker for braids. When I apply this to create my braids and take them out the next day or two, boy does it leave my hair like a beautiful curled beauty. It maintains its texture plus it gives you hair this soft consistency that’ll leave you speechless.

I don’t quite remember exactly how I stumbled across this product. but i started using it about a little less than a year ago and i’ve been hooked ever since. over the past 5-6 years i’ve been natural, i’ve had such a hard time finding a gel that has great hold and doesn’t flake or leave a lot of build up.

this product checks off everything on my list. i know it’s purpose is for twist outs, but i just use it to define my curls and it does just that. i love the watery consistency of it (which usually doesn’t work out well for me) it’s nice bc i won’t have to re-wet my hair if i’m trying to do a touch up.

I have a looser curl pattern, fine/medium density, low/medium porosity. This gel is the best!!! and I have tried a lot! It defines, doesn’t dry out, brings out the shine, and provides a good flexible hold.

I even have used it to refresh my hair and it looks just as good the next day. I also love the smell. I hope they never get rid of this or change the formula!! This is my favorite product I’ve tried from the mane choice and this line is prob the best I’ve tried yet from them also!.

It was okay the first day i had it in. for reference i have curly hair and usually don’t redo my products until about two days after the first use. the second day with this gel my hair was dry and brittle.

it’s definitely not as moisturizing as i thought it would be. definition was good but it’s probably a one day use product.

I actually surprisingly enjoy this 1. ) It smells good. 2. ) The gel feels nice like it feels like you are just touching air(good at exaggeration) 3. ) It is surprisingly good with twist ( I tried dreads it just feels like you are making curls with your hair ( I mean it’s good ).

If I had enough money I honestly would buy this again.

This gel is okay. I don’t get as good of a hold as I do with the black lid (resistance formula). It worked okay but I did have to keep my locs clipped longer under the dryer.

I have 2a/3c hair and I absolutely love this gel. I’ve been using it since I started my curly hair journey and I have used some other gels as well to different things but I always come back to this one.

Absolutely amazing hold and definition. I’d be more cautious if you have wavy hair though – it has a LOT of hold and can get quite sticky so I think it serves curly types more. Even for curly hair though it can get too sticky sometimes so I like to put some on my hands and water it down a bit with a few sprays from my styling bottle and remember that less is more otherwise it might get too greasy and crunchy.

Drying with a t shirt / microfibre towel afterward does miracles too :).

I wasn’t sure if this gel would be too heavy for my fine 3A curls, because it has olive oil. I thought it was worth a shot for the price, and a couple of months later I’ve just nearly finished my first tub of it.

I love it! It has good hold, keeps my curls shiny and it controls frizz. I do have to scrunch out the crunch, but I don’t mind that at all, and it leaves my hair soft afterward. I like that the gel has some protein, too, which helps keep my hair balanced between protein and moisture.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s everything I’ve always wanted in a gel!.

I thought this purchase was very good value for money. The product gave my hair lots of shine whereas previously it lacked lustre. I wanted it to define, loosen and hold my curls and it is the most effective product that I have used for this (believe me I have tried so many).

It is best applied when the hair is wet e. g. after washing. I was even able to freshen up the curls between washes by just wetting the hair, plaiting and leaving it in the plaits over night. Just wetting the hair seemed to activate the gel that I had initially applied after washing.

You need to gauge how much gel to use by experimenting. Too much will make the hair too crispy and stringy and I don’t recommend using it on dry hair at all.

Just be careful if you have on regular nail polish. It contains glycerin and glycerin removes polish.

I have frizzy hair this work great on my locs for loc maintenance or just touching up the front. It does not turn my hair white, does not make my scalp itchy, nor make my hair oily.

It great I dont like the fact that I did not get the size that I ordered I got 8 small sizes but I guess I have to adjust.
