20 Best Two Channel Receiver (2022 Updated)

My listening habits are mostly streaming music or podcasts with some CD playing and DVD watching. When I found this receiver and realized I could still use my tower speakers and connect a simple CD/DVD player I was delighted.

Very simple to set up. One minor criticism- I did have some issues connecting the speakers (the clip connects are just okay, Yamaha should upgrade these). Even after stripping down the speaker wire, connection A just didn’t want to give me sound and yes I checked my connections repeatedly.

Speaker connection B worked just fine but getting the wiring into these clips was no picnic. That said- I LOVE THIS RECEIVER! The Bluetooth has great range. It connects to your device quickly. I am happily listening to Spotify and podcasts and enjoying the tower speaker sound.

One tip- you really don’t need to set up the AM/FM antenna- almost all radio stations are streaming now. So use an app like TuneIn Radio or find your radio station’s app if they have one (or go to their website on a connected device and click Listen Live) you are good to go.

I am using an Apple iphone 13 and Ipad Pro as sources. This product is likely not going to make a super picky audiophile delighted but I am not one of those. You can downsize a full stereo system easily.

This R-S202 is sold out everywhere and I was lucky to find it on QVC.

The good: audio quality is great, been enjoying it very much. The unit is very small for an AV receiver, but still with lots of I/O options. Definite upgrade from my older Onkyo device and I’m generally very happy with it.

The decent: the on-screen user interface could be from 1980s (poor even comparison to my old Onkyo from 11+ years ago) but despite looking crummy the setup for WiFi, airplay, spotify and microphone calibration was all very smooth and painless.

The front display has some poor design choices – volume level is displayed in tiny 7-segments in the corner that are hard to read from a distance and the main display is taken up by audio type (dolby digital, pro logic, DTS etc) and I can’t find any options to customise it.

It’s limited to 5. 1 and it’s only 4k (not 8k) compatible so low on future-proofing, but neither of those limitations bother me much. Airplay is convenient but note that it’s audio only, so no way to mirror screen using the AVR.

The poor: At one point the unit stopped receiving audio via ARC from my Samsung TV (only ARC compatible, not eARC) and I had to power cycle both devices at the plug to make them reconnect successfully again.

Suspect this may be an HDMI-CEC compatibility issue between devices or potentially an issue caused by the “Eco mode” on the Marantz which I’ve since disabled. As a result I’m keeping an eye on it and have a TOSLink optical cable ready in case it turns out to be a recurring issue, but that loses the lipsync functionality and I’d rather not resort to it.

Years ago, I replaced my stereo speakers with a soundbar, to run my TV and HiFi through. When this went wrong I went to replace it and was advised about alternative replacement ideas – this unit won! (thanks Tim, in Exeter).

I am still getting to grips with it and there are compatibility issues with older tech (my mobile won’t bluetooth to it), but the quality of sound is superb. Married with my old B&W speakers and with a new central speaker, it gives a sound so much better than my old (quite expensive) Polk soundbar.

The bluetooth isn’t a problem as I can achieve the same thing through WiFi using the HEOS app. The ability to stream music and to listen to digital radio through the one unit is a massive jump forward for me (particularly as I live in a digital radio ‘coldspot’ and can now pick up many more stations).

Be advised – if you are new to this kind of setup, it can take a little while to download/install and get used to using everything. Overall I am very happy that I made the jump to this ‘newer’ tech and think that it will lead to me buying further speakers for other parts of the house.

I bought this AVR as wanted something more slimline. Having the Arcam SA20 G class amplifier and Arcam CDS50, Sony Ps5 and Sony 4k player I needed an 8K 4K 120Hz AVR. The Arcam SA20 powers the fronts, the speakers comprise of KEF Q950’s, Q650C, Q350’s, KUBE 12b, Q50a’s.

The sound combination for music with the Marantz is epic, love the warm sound it produces. For movies the combination works wonderfully, don’t be put off by the size or output of the Marantz. It is more than loud enough for a medium to large sized room.

I was looking at spending a lot more for either the SR8015 or Arcam AVR20. I am very very impressed with the NR1711, Atmos and surround formats are excellent. I don’t think I will be needing anything more as the sound is amazing in all forms in this set up.

It fills my needs for a garage/patio stereo. Sounds a little thin thru my mini speakers I purchased with it but will be changing them out shortly. EQ setting are on the remote it. Plays thru a usb flash drive with no issues and reads text.

I can’t verify if it will play random tracks through different folders on the flash drive. When set on random it only plays a few seconds then changes tracks. FM quality appears good 50+ miles from stations, Amp is a little noisy.

Mic inputs are cool I plugged my acoustic guitar into one of the two jacks and it sounds great. you could play home gigs on this thing! Speaker wire is ultra micro thin gauge, The speaker jacks are of cheap quality.

I have not tested Bluetooth the manual said it’s 2. 0? I wish it transmitted Bluetooth.

Sound quality and general function good, clean assembly with good power supply. They misspelled BROWSE on the LCD display. This appears to have been designed by pasting together a receiver and a power amplifier.

There is a MECHANICAL knob to switch between functions. So, if you think of this as a receiver connected to one input of a power amplifier that has 4 inputs, you’ll understand it. When the knob is set to AUX, DVD, or CD then only the LOWER knobs make any difference.

So to change the volume of your DVD input you use the big knob in the middle. Don’t try the remote control, it has no useful effect in this mode. When the knob is set to MP3/SD then the upper knobs and LCD work as expected.

The remote control will now work with the radio, SD, or USB drive. So, plus marks for decent quality parts. Minus point for just pasting two items together with a mechanical ABCD switch. They could have done a better job of integrating the parts so they work together with one remote control.

Oh, POWER OFF on the remote just turns off the radio/SD/USB section. It leaves the backlight of the display on and the power amplifier is still on.

First one received started smoking within a minute of turning it on. Was purchased online, but was able to return it in-store. Rolled the dice, figuring it was just a bad one since no other reviews anywhere online mentioned that happening, and ordered another one.

This one works GREAT. Plenty of output for my outdoor Yamaha speakers! Nice features. Bluetooth is a plus, but range is MAYBE 10′. Radio is nice, too, but no presets so it will scan ALL the stations and you have to skip from one to another like disc tracks.

Banana plug speaker inputs as well as bass and treble knobs are a plus!. It’s kind of fun for my kids to use to use the mic inputs as well! Knobs/buttons don’t feel cheap. Nicely priced for the features and output.

If this one also turned out to be defective, I was going to shell out another $50 on a new Sony STRDH190 2-channel amp for my needs of solely audio use for the garage/patio. I am very happy with this unit though!! Would be cool if it had another set of speaker inputs (A/B zone).

Once we decided to finally replace our wonderful but aging 1980 Kenwood receiver, we were faced with a serious dilemma: what to replace it with? There are plenty of expensive high-end stereo receivers out there, but are they *really* worth it? Maybe if cost were no object, I wouldn’t care, but most of us have to do other things with our money, like eat or have a roof over their heads.

Most of the searches put this receiver at the top of the list, which annoyed me. Mostly because I had (spoiler: past tense) a long-standing issue with Sony dating back to the 1980s. My spouse convinced me to finally put it to rest and order this receiver.

Boy, am I glad that we did. First off, it sounds just as good as our Kenwood, and takes up about 40% of the space. It has a real phono input, and three aux inputs, one of which is perfect for a tape deck.

I would’ve preferred two tape inputs for dubbing, but en external box works just as well. The look is very clean, and there aren’t a lot of unnecessary frills. I do have one or two nitpicks, though. The biggest is the connection for the FM antenna, which looks more like s fan connector on a motherboard than a real set of screw terminals or a coax connection.

I’m STILL trying to figure out how I’m going to patch in a better antenna. Also, I miss having AM. Yeah, I know, but there are still a few really good AM stations out there, and it’d be nice to have the option to listen to them.

HD FM would also be nice, but again I’m nitpicking. Overall, I’ve not seen a better value out there. We’ve had plenty of gear over the years from every manufacturer, and I’d put this Sony receiver up against any of them.

Once I got over my snit with Sony, ir became obvious stat hey still care about good stereo music.

The previous reviews are much more technical than this will be I’m sure. However…if you’re looking for a very clean, fairly powerful, beautiful sounding modern receiver with a retro feel and sound, then this is for you.

This replaced an early 70’s Harmon that finally gave up one channel (still getting g it repaired eventually) and I chose this one to run my turntables. I’m currently running a Pioneer PL15D with a Technics tone arm, Dual head, and Shure cartridge and with the built in preamp for turntables, this thing is as clean as it’s ever been.

Doesn’t matter if I’m running vintage 70’s rock or new production grunge vinyl…it all is clean as can be. This receiver has all the modern fun things like Bluetooth and usb but with the sound and warmth of a vintage receiver.

Dare I say it almost sounds tubish? It’s got that much warmth. You do have to crank it a bit to get it loud but it handles it just fine. Read the review about the board and certain features being found on more expensive receivers.

Absolutely spot on. I’m currently running a pair of Fisher 15” towers and a pair of 12” Fisher towers off it and it does very well with them (both sets are OG 8 ohm setups with the white woofers made in Japan).

Honestly, this is the best bang for your buck. I was thinking “eh, it’s cheap…I’ll run it until I find a vintage marantz or something”. Nope. Not even looking at this point. There’s simply no need. It’s the best of both worlds as far as modern and vintage tone go.

Just buy it. You’ll love it. Now, it is fairly niche though…if you’re not wanting a 2 channel old school style receiver and instead wanting some Dolby 15. 9. 2. 1 or whatever super duper surround sound with built in prostate massager, this isn’t it.

This is more retro than anything. If you’re wanting to use it for it’s intended use, you’ll be more than happy with it. I can really see this being amazing with some JBL bookshelf or smaller tower speakers in a den or office too.

It would sound incredible.

I had an old Sony receiver that was amazing. It crapped out on me after 35 years. I’ve been trying to get it fixed for the last six months. I would’ve paid anywhere from $200 to $300 to get it fixed but nobody would fix it locally.

So I stuffed it in the garage and decided to buy a new unit. I bought this BASIC unit right before Christmas so that when family VISITED over the holidays, I would have something to play music from my phone.

Although this unit is basic the sound it pushes out is crisp and I’m very pleased with it. Other features that I like is the ability to connect two pair of speakers to the unit, and of course the ability to connect a Bluetooth device to it without having to use the aux with a RCA jack.

I also like the simple operations but that comes with some cons because I don’t have the pro logic or cinema options for a center speaker or two rear speakers. However, this unit will hold me over until supplies for receivers are back to normal.

And for the price of 170, I think it was worth the investment. I really don’t have anything bad to say about the unit because the value for what I got is worth it. I will say though, had there been other options to fulfill all of my needs, I probably would not have purchased this unit but rather invested in a unit that cost twice as much.

Great value for the money is all I can say.

I needed an amplifier for a whole house sound system (Logitech Squeezebox) that would be on standby and ready to play whenever I wanted audio, be it Internet radio or music from my computer. My 20 year-old Pioneer system worked fine but it used quite a bit of power even when quiescent, meaning that it was a potential fire hazard and was costly to run 24/7.

The Sony STRDH130 seemed to do what was needed in terms of its overall performance and especially the standby mode feature that shuts it down from being a 200W device to a miserly 0. 3W, when there is zero signal input to the receiver for 30 minutes.

This, I naively thought, would mean that it would wake up whenever a signal was detected, but that’s not the case, you have to switch it back on using a button on the receiver or its remote control. Anyone like me, using the receiver as an amplifier for another piece of equipment, is going be disappointed that they have to turn it on as well as the source of the sound (DVD player, TV etc.

). In my case, in which the WiFi Squeezebox controller is normally in another room, it is especially annoying. The remote control is, incidentally, an infra-red type, which means you have to be at least in the same room as the receiver to make it work.

I run my whole-house sound in 2-zones and I needed the 2-pairs of speaker option. The left and right pairs, known as A &B can be switched, to A only, B only or A & B together. One really good benefit over my old amplifier is that the sound level does not change noticeably when switching between running 2 pairs of speakers or just one.

One really bad thing is that there is no button on the remote control for this function. The European version of this product displays RDS data, in which data sent along with the radio signal and that contains station ID, song, genre, weather and traffic alerts is displayed on receivers.

A very similar technology called RBDS was introduced in 1992 in the US and is in most car radios now, so there is no reason why Sony should not have also incorporated it into the North American version of this product.

The Sony uses “soft” buttons for controlling a lot of functions and at first use it’s necessary to set-up preferences for such things as bass, treble, station memory and names. I was concerned that power outages would result in amnesia and that I would have to reset all of these after such an event.

I asked a question of previous purchasers at Amazon (who certainly paid more than I did at Walmart) and got an unhelpful “don’t know” and an unqualified “Yes”. In fact the answer is probably “No”, at least after a 3–hour trial power-down; the receiver did not loose its memory for all the things I had entered.

Depending on the technology Sony used, super-caps — to keep memory powered for some time, or flash — to store memorized data indefinitely — it could be that a long power outage might result in memory loss.

I don’t know yet but I’ll update this review next time there is a puff of wind and my power goes out for 3-days. No, I live in the US, but sometimes my electricity provider makes it feel like a 3rd world country.

From a performance point of view, the power output, distortion, radio signal strength, is good but not any different from the 20 year old system it replaced in my home.

Our home rests on the highest elevation within our city. A summer lightning strike fried two televisions, two telephones, and the stereo receiver without damaging anything else. The GFCI’s and two electrical breakers kicked off which were easily reset.

The receiver lost FM reception above 94. 5 and all AM reception. The Sony STR-DH130 was a perfect replacement for an existing sound system.

I am 50 and have had many stereos over the years. Usually as I got older or moved, I sold or gave away my old stereos never thinking that some day it would of value or even that they would EVER go out of style.

But, as people my age have learned, everything goes out of style lol. My last stereo receiver(Sony) was purchased at JC Pennys 22 years ago. Its has only 230 watts of power but it cranks! Lately it has been making a POP noise then it goes into protect mode and shuts off.

So I went shopping only to discover my style of receiver is expensive to purchase now. I only paid $149 back then and that was a lot for me back then. I searched Ebay and found my new Sony receiver for $124.

It has 135Wx2 what ever that means. I feel that its a descent component, but not as good as my last. It is a bit smaller and does not fit my the scale of my dual cassette, and turn table, it does not crank with power (although does not distort the speakers either.

just does not seem to get very loud), there is no extra base button(just base/treble)Feels like I need to buy an equalizer to get the same sound definition as my old one,the volume knob is a lot smaller scale which does not feel or look old school to me.

This arrived last week, and once I’d set up to a CD player, bluetooth and radio, the next thing was to connect it to my broadband. It took me longer, being not all that conversant with all these initials, such as SSID, but once connected, wirelessly, the results were marvellous.

With Spotify Connect, the sound is so much better than just laptop or phone to the bluetooth adaptor, then the amp. I hear much more than the older way of connecting. Internet radio takes a bit of getting used to, but once done, and the presets stored, I can switch between various foreign classical music stations such as WDR3, Br-Klassik, or use BBC either on the net or via FM.

This machine is superb, and the depth of sound is such an improvement on my previous, very good, amplifier. Thoroughly recommended.

I have had this 3 weeks now and had chance to set up all the functions. Net Radio as well as an AM/FM tuner mean I always have radio even if WiFi goes down, and both were a doddle to set up and to storer presets for.

Linking to my home WiFi via iPhone sharing the settings, so almost nothing for me to do. Have tried Phono and CD inputs, both sound perfect. I am running 2 pairs of speakers so i have music in 2 rooms and it’s great to be able to choose either pr both (my previous Cambridge amp the A speakers were always on, only B was optional).

AirPlay works seamlessly. Also tried the built-in Spotify, although not my main streaming service, and worked fine. The associated MusicCast app is easy to download and use, giving a lot more options, and it persuaded me to purchase an extra Bluetooth Yamaha speaker for the conservatory so now we can link all the music across the downstairs simultaneously – again, much easier than expected to link in an extra component.

Only issue I had was initially sending the amp into safety lockdown by using 4 Ohm speakers – by default it is set for 8 Ohms. Euan at Richer Newcastle was great with advice and swapped the unit within 2 days, then talked me through changing the setting before I linked the speakers up.

Can’t fault the service or the unit.

I recently purchased a Yamaha RN602 to replace an old Sherwood AX4050R amplifier that was starting to fail. Having ripped most of my CDs to a server, I wanted the ability to stream my music over the network and from my phone.

The RN602 provides a very nice sound to my Mordaunt Short 902 speakers and I am easily able to stream FLAC files from my Plex server via DLNA. My only niggle is that, despite trying a number of DLNA servers, the RN602 does not allow for fast forwarding or rewinding within a song (annoying if you’re listening to a long piece of music and want to skip back a few seconds).

Sound quality is good, with a warmth to the music. Both bass and treble are handled well, and can be tweaked if required, or all tone controls bypassed with a “Pure Direct” button. Aesthetically, the RN602 is a solid, black piece of equipment that sits proudly on top of my cabinet, between my speakers.

It certainly looks like a serious piece of kit. While streaming from a server was my primary aim, the RN602 also supports Bluetooth and Airplay, the latter I use to stream apps such as Amazon Music, Spotify and iTunes from my phone.

I’ve also used the Net Radio capabilities of the RN602 to listen to stations over the Internet. Because I’m able to access all of my music via wi-fi, I’ve not had the need to connect any other devices to the RN602, although there are a suitable number of inputs for traditional hi-fi such as CD players and a Phono input, along with support for traditional AM and FM radio.

There is also a USB port on the front so you can load music directly that way (although I’ve not needed to do that). The RN602 is a MusicCast device, which means it can be controlled by an app and be part of a multi-room setup.

The MusicCast app is pretty decent, but isn’t as sophisticated or well integrated as Sonos. The MusicCast app integrates with Napster, Spotify (premium only), Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer. Later MusicCast devices are scheduled to support Spotify (free) and AirPlay 2, but the RN602 isn’t included on that list for some reason.

MusicCast is lacking in support for Apple Music and Amazon Music, but hopefully they will come soon. In the meantime, I can stream from my phone if I want to listen to those services. With no other MusicCast devices, I’ve not (yet) had the opportunity to try the multi-room feature, but based on what I’ve experienced with the RN602, I expect to be purchasing more Yamaha kit in the near future!.

Nice ampli, clean designe and simple options. At this price you cant expect more gadjets anyway but the minimum is there and they perform well as expexted. The 3 stars goes for the lack of base. The base is there as long as you crank up the volume, The ampli reduce the base electronically every time you turn up the volume a little more.

You start to notice half way and at 3/4 half the base is gone. I’m not a technician but this is usually due to a too small power supply. Base require more power so small power supply cannot provides enough power to provide the base require at hi-volume.

Perfect for the day to day TV but not movies. If the base is not on your list, go for it otherwise, a good product. I returned it.

So, first off, this is great and does the primary thing asked of it: play audio well over bluetooth. If you are contemplating getting this for your audio needs to jump start your life with music, day or night, just buy it and you will love it.

Note, however, the speaker selection that you pair with this make a huge difference. Getting the best sound out of it is a different story. I started with some low-to-mid-range speakers and realized that this receiver wanted to deliver more sound for the dollar, more pound for the holler.

Over the course of a couple months I added a few upgrades: 1)YamahaNS-6490 Bookshelf Speaker (pair); 2) YamahaYST-SW216 10 100W Front-Firing Subwoofer; and then configured it so that the cabling went from the back of the receiver into the subwoofer and out from the subwoofer to the left & right 6490 speakers on the floor.

It is amazing what a little research can do to pay off in spades. This configuration literally fills a house with sound and shakes the building and your soul with good vibrations, clearly. Think of it as bringing the music group Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch to a Michelin-rated restaurant with a great discount, if such a thing were possible.

Is it a perfect pro setup, no, will it make you smile when the music plays, yes, oh yes, yes it will. 1980s, ’90s, and today’s music ring through true. Whether you are listing to Beethoven, Bob Dylan, Janet Jackson,Yo-Yo Ma, Bob Marley, and / or Ed Sheeran, et cetera, this stereo receiver will output the clear audio signal you are looking for.

just remember to use good speakers with it or you will be sad until you order better speakers. Lastly, remember to pair it with a surge protector of some sort if you don’t already have one as these electronics are quite sensitive and should not be plugged directly into a potentially variable power source.

I hooked mine up to an APCBE350G Back-UPS 350, at a bare minimum. Cheers!.

I listened to the critics, and bought 2 lower cost receivers I was dissatisfied with. Stiff and gritty volume controls, lack of controls on the face of the unit, and miniatured invisible function buttons.

This Onkyo has a large display with much info, and basic functions work beautifully at the unit! I read the manual online before I got it. I knew the defaults would work for me, so I was cranking powerful rich music in a few minutes.

If you just want to get by, and deal with frustration, go with a bargain receiver the critics like. If you want something nice, with the best of old and new school, choose Onkyo. This TX-8140 looks so good sitting my Onkyo cd player, and the remote operates the cd player! Easy Bluetooth pairing compared to the other guys.

A when coupled with good speakers, a stereo receiver such as the Onkyo TX-8140 produces exceptional audio quality when compared with smart speakers (Amazon, Google, etc. ). After setting up the network connection the Onkyo TX-8140 can sync to various URLs like Tune-In and Pandora which are free, providing a huge variety of music, news, podcasts, etc.

Use the smart phone App to select any media you like. The unit can drive passive or active speakers and an active sub-woofer. I could not detect any audible noise or distortion. This is the lowest cost receiver with the best features and highest audio quality one can purchase, providing you find it available, as the demand appears to be greater than production.

I have 2 Onkyo TX-8140 receivers: 1 for bedroom, 1 for home office. Absolutely no regrets.

I will be returning the unit because the sound is simply too bright. It is not as unbearably bright as the Onkyo TX-8270, but it is still too bright for my taste. The sound is warm, yes, but maybe too warm; the sound is sometimes smeary.

This is a very powerful unit and there is lots of bass. If you are not someone who hears high frequencies well, as I do, you might like this unit. I had hoped to purchase a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 240 speakers, and they are 4 ohm speakers.

Since this Onkyo receiver can handle 4 ohms, I was hoping for a match. Unfortunately not. I still prefer the sound of my (discontinued) Sony STRDH-130 receiver. Its sound is more natural. It has a frequency response that only goes up to 20 khz.

Since the human ear cannot hear above 20 khz, I do not see the logic in going above that. It just needlessly brightens the sound. The Onkyo TX-8140 has a frequency response that goes up to 100 khz.

Good sound, but was not impressed that to stream music from my phone directly to the receiver from Spotify requires a Premium subscription. The same with at least 1 other App. Also, Best Buy and Onkyo websites state ” 100W RMS per channel at 8 Ohms, 20Hz–20kHz, 0.

08% THD, 2 channels driven “. Yet while going through the Setup a second time I fell upon a function ” Select your speaker impedance ” with 2 choices – 4 Ohms or 6 Ohms. In preparation to buying this TX-8270 (which I received today), I purchased a decent pair of 8 Ohms 130W RMS floor standing speakers for $1000.

Most 2. 0 channel amps have a 4 or 6 Ohms switch at the back. Since this one doesn’t I assumed I needed 8 Ohms speakers. Now I find out this 2. 0 receiver is capable of pushing higher than 100W RMS into 6 Ohms speakers.

Very, very disappointed and might be returning this TX-8270.

” I haven’t yet hooked up this receiver, so I cannot comment on ‘sound quality,’ or ‘ease of use. ‘ As to ‘good value,’ only time will tell. ” > read on I did hook up this receiver 4 days ago (Jan. 6th), figured out how the ‘reset’ function is accessed, and since then it has been working well.

The receiver is not easy to set up (lots of steps), but there are quite a few unique features that I appreciate. If your system includes a TV (video), setup is a little easier as instructions will be displayed on the TV if hooked up.

Once you know your way around the features, the item is easy to use.

The sound is very good, rivaling receivers costing a couple of thousands, however, the digital part of it is pretty bad. Firstly, the supported storage size of the USB drive is fairly small. Up to 32GB, I believe.

Right now, we can easily have a MP3 collection of hundread of GB, which this unit is not able to support. Secondly, the HDMI connection is sometime broken. My DVD player is connected to this unit via HDMI cable.

When playing CD, sometimes the sound just chokes for a few seconds. I originally thought it might be DVD player’s problem, but if I used a different receiver (YAMAHA), there is no such issue at all. Thirdly, the bluetooth connection can broken from time to time.

Sometimes it may not connect, or no sound despite it is connected. I had to power-cycle the receiver to make it work. Too bad these issues ruin an otherwise excellent receiver.

So, you get what you pay for, clean audio and nice visual presentation. My only real gripe, the UI is a little slow. It takes a while to load chromecast apps and spotify playback. Something to note, when you run the auto audio calibration, you may not get any action from your powered sub, that’s because the auto eq doesn’t think you need one.

Go into sound settings and look for “double bass”. Turn that on and your sub will be used again.

Granted this unit is expensive it definitely is an upgrade to my 20yr old head unit. I currently use the unit to power my outdoor speakers. My old unit would get rather warm when pushing it to 75% capacity.

This unit I had to actually set the max volume to 65% or my entire neighborhood would hear me. Also at 65% the unit remains very cool. And its only half the height of my old unit. Glad I made this purchase.

Again definitely more expensive but worth it for a 2 speaker setup.

It’s obviously a smaller powered 2 channel receiver, but I needed it for the small space because my larger receiver was overheating. This thing stays extremely cool. It also has plenty of power for a one bedroom apt.

It works completely as designed. Happy with my purchase.

Don’t let the look’s fool you , like me. This Onkyo Stereo Receiver lacks the tone quality. The Bass controls does not go up to 10 dB , and the Treble only goes up to 6dB. So your not getting the full tone control plus their is no Loudness control.

So this Receiver lacks sound quality. And I was using this with my beautiful sounding Polk Speakers and My Polk Sub Still It’s a piece of junk. The older Onkyo Stereo Receiver are much better from the 90’s.

Just hooked the unit up to my Klipsch R-15 speakers and Yamaha subwoofer. So far my impressions are that this unit is made extremely well and is very user friendly. Not too many bells and whistles, just enough for a basic hi-fi setup which I like.

Phono input, subwoofer output and Bluetooth connectivity were musts for me. Bluetooth connects very quickly! Equalizer and balance works fine. My only complaint like other people is that the unit isn’t the most powerful.

I wouldn’t recommend using this with anything other than bookshelf speakers. And it’s not that it won’t get loud, it does, I just don’t like how close I got to the maximum volume. But if you’re looking for a well built, pure sounding unit for a living room this will serve you well.

Can’t wait to listen to my record collection through this system. Ultimately satisfied with my decision.

This is a straightforward stereo receiver, which can handle analog and fiber optic and bluetooth digital inputs. The sound quality is excellent. I can’t comment on the radio, since I don’t use it. Easy to set up and use.

Just opened the box of my new PyleUSA PTA24BT. Read through the manual to learn about the functions. It was a breeze to get going. I plugged in a USB thumb drive and a SD card. I plugged it in. The PYLEUSA turned on as it should and found the cards.

I plugged in my headphones. Adjusted the levels so that the sound was to my liking. It’s great that the PTA24BT allows you so many source types to use and that it lets you customize the sound in a very detailed way.

It has bass, treble , volume and even a level control for the headphone jack. Outstanding at this price point! I programed my FM stations. I Listened to FM first. Because it is my weakest link. The PyleUSA was able to pull in a few stations that I can’t always find because I live outside the city limits.

Great. I listened to the USB thumb drive next. All tracks are CD quality. It sounded outstanding through my ATH M50x headphones. The PTA25BT has the ability to go loud. Which allows it to sound great at low volume with 32 ohm headphones.

the DA conversion was first class. Next I listened to bluetooth. I connected my Iphone instantly. Music from streaming services sounded pristine through the PTA24BT. I then connected a cd player to one of the inputs.

Sound coming through the PTA24BT’s analogue section. The sound is formidable to other headphone amps on the market. I have not hooked speakers to it. So I can’t tell you about it. I am very satisfied with the PYLEUSA PTA24BT.

I ordered this amp it arrived on time but after hooking it up it wouldn’t turn on! I had to fool around with the power switch, turning it off an on several times, when it finally came on everything was fine.

Then after a few weeks the right bake would go out, I had to fool around with the Power Switch again. after a few times it started to work. Now it’s losing the right channel about ever hour or so where I have to turn it off and on again several times to get the right channel to work.

I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, I didn’t expect much from it, but I at least expected it to turn on and play correctly, like maybe without fiddling around with the power switch every hour or so.

I am using this to drive a pair of Dayton Audio IO655W outdoor spkrs, connected with about 50ft of 16gauge spkr wire. First, the documentation: a) It says NOTHING about how to tune the FM receiver. After about 10-15 minutes of trial and error, I discovered out how to make it auto-tune the presets.

If you mistakenly push that button sequence again, you are forced to wait through the process all over. Not user friendly. b) It does say how to use the BT feature, unfortunately it is useless because there is no BT/Line button on the front panel, and you are again forced to trial and error your way through the pairing process.

This is inexcusable and sloppy. Performance/usage: a) Sound quality seems good. No audible hum or distortion. EQ at 50% bass/treble settings seems reasonable. b) Sound volume in FM mode is respectable, not great.

I thought 125w/ch would’ve been enough to easily drive the DA spkrs. c) Sound volume in BT mode is about 4-5 times less than FM mode, even with the BT source device cranked all the way up. I don’t understand this.

I have to set all the volume controls at max. d) I don’t understand the purpose of having giant knobs for individual L/R channel volume, and a tiny master volume. Wouldn’t a large master volume and a small balance knob be much more intuitive – and less knobs? Overall, it’s not a horrible amp.

My big issue with it is the difference in volume between FM and BT. When you change from BT to FM you need to reduce the volume or you might damage something.

Speakers: DALI OBERON 1 (No sub-woofer) Turntable: Elipson Chroma 400 TV: LG via HDMI ARC Bought for the family snug, so a mixture of TV, vinyl, Spotify and Bluetooth to start with and possibly CD in future if I find a nice second hand one – no rush First impressions: relatively straight forward out of the box.

The UI/Setup Assistant/Instructions isn’t that sophisticated compared say a modern TV. I didn’t try using the Android app -so don’t know if that would have improved stuff; it wasn’t strongly signposted at the outset if that was the case, more mentioned at the end of the setup.

The setup journey was rudimentary and didn’t signpost where one could make more changes e. g. check your speaker impedance, is your phono MM or MC Tried Phono first. First impressions were lovely, nice and crisp and clear vocals and high to mid range, but after while realised bass seemed to be missing or muted.

This was on such 90’s bangers as Happy Mondays-Step On, New Order-Blue Monday or Primal Scream-Loaded. Adding Bass to 6db made some difference but nothing floor shaking to disturb the neighbours. Tried different speakers and an older Dennon amp (DRA-365D) and that gave a more low end, so it wasn’t the speakers.

Long and the short – phono hasn’t impressed so far. Got the TV audio running once I found the right setting on the LG – results, nice and rounded. Better bass/low end results than for the phono, so it can do it.

The youth in the family got themselves onto Spotify without much assitance and it seemed to work for them. Next Bluetooth. And this is where it has let itself down. Skips, jumps, pauses seems to be playing segments over itself so the beat sounds wrong, inconsistent.

And this is off two different devices, so it’s not the devices which work fine with other Bluetooth. Haven’t got back to you yet as I’ve been trying different stuff out and wanted to record my journey so far – Updates to follow.

If you’re on the look out for an AV amp and prefer stereo rather than surround sound, this is an excellent offering which has surpassed my expectations. I run it into a pair of Q Acoustics 3050 floor stand speakers, I stream directly to the Denon from Spotify or an internal NAS.

The sound quality is superb as you’d expect, and user interface easy to use. The only slight gripe is that although the user interface can display what’s going on through your TV – it’s rendering of graphics isn’t great, so whilst it’s useable, it looks pants compared to how Spotify looks on screen when provided by my Amazon fire stick.

So for highest quality sound I stream Spotify directly to the Denon, but if I value nice graphics on the TV to accompany my music, I stream Spotify through my fire stick. Which still sounds excellent.

For watching streamed TV i use a Panasonic TV and the fire stick as the source. The fire stick is plugged into the Denon through HDMI and then the tv through HDMI Arc. This works a dream as the moment I press the on button on the fire remote, the tv and Denon switch on and work beautifully – with the volume on the fire remote adjusting volume on the Denon.

Overall this is an excellent unit which surpassed my expectations. I knew it would sound amazing but didn’t expect the inter working with TV and fire stick to be so seamless. Great job Denon!.

After a new Marantz PM6007 failed on me, Richer Sounds helpfully talked me through this as a straight swap, though it both and has more but doesn’t have quite the same functionality. Set-up without a TV connected is quite difficult, not helped by the on-line instructions not being correct, so following them does not work, for example setting pre-sets on the tuner.

Assigning inputs and setting input levels also took a lot of trial and error. Disappointingly Internet Radio is only provided through a third party app which requires a monthly paid subscription, and annoyingly every time I switch it on it wants me to set up this app.

And for some reason, using Heos to connect from my iPhone to stream music from Tidal it ignores this nearby AVR and connects and turns on another AVR in another part of the house, so almost every day have to battle settings for a few minutes before it recognises this AVR.

But it sounds great, the tuner delivers good FM and DAB radio, the vinyl sounds great through the phono section, and even the cassette tapes playback well. And generally the Remote Control is effective.

And when it finally connects to Tidal, great quality. Can’t forgive inaccurate manuals that mean hours wasted in set-up. I’d like to recommend it but not without sorting out Heos and the manuals.

This brings back the Old Fashioned ‘Stereo’ systems from the past-Good FM tuner+Phono input+Tape Deck input+Extra inputs+simple front panel controls like the old days( I mean before multi-channel ). This replaced a 7 year old Denon that blew from my second-system, which I don’t need anything other than Stereo on.

With a Sony dubbing cassette deck, a Gemini manual turntable, a Technics CD player, two JBL bookshelf speakers and a JBL sub-woofer, with this new receiver is a good clean ‘blast from the past’. A conservative power rating of 50w per channel, a truly clean and sensitive FM tuner and a very easy set-up.

Just after the first day with it I am impressed by the clean sound from all sources. The remote was acceptably functionable, no it doesn’t have loudness or tone control buttons on it, but not a big deal.

The sub-woofer has a 90hz cut-off point which is OK, sub-woofers have their own cut-off controls anyway. If you don’t need a hundred watts/per, or ‘pre-out/main-in’ jacks, or any ‘Switched outlets’ on back, this receiver will give you great sound for a small or medium area basic set up.

Too bad Yamaha has removed ALL extra ‘Switched Outlets’ from their new receivers, stereo or multi-channel. I am going to look for an older Yamaha top of the line Stereo receiver, which had those fretures, to replace my main Denon system receiver before that blows, like the Yamaha RX-797.

There are still some out there. But this R-S300BL is a very refreshing replacement for the old stereo units of the old days.

It’s a great receiver! Don’t let the power rating fool you! It really caught the Yamaha charm. A lot of things on the front of this receiver are not standard features anymore. There are no video components run through it, so that stuff won’t degrade the audio signal chain – great for using with a desktop PC and some bookshelf or floorstanding speakers.

“Loudness” is as simple as this: It turns the mids down; that’s it – and a little goes a long way. The idea behind this is that using subtractive EQ is much better for ear fatigue than boosting Bass and (especially) Treble.

Loudness also allows the audio to maintain a higher level of purity than boosting, which creates high and low frequency nodes. It also gives you more usable volume “throw” by allowing you to set your gain where you prefer to run your gear at.

Excellent components, fantastic build, I really liked the concept of this receiver – until the main selling point for me didn’t really come through. I knocked one star off due to features, because I am really bummed that it doesn’t have volume control for the sub out.

I wanted to be able to turn my sub off via remote from across the room, the controllable features from the remote are a little basic. I can have quick reference with the loudness control for flattening my mix and turning it up to see what it’s going to sound like after someone does something similar in say, their car at low volumes.

For some of my friends that went to the same audio production school I went to, I’d recommend this receiver to them regardless of price point, which says a lot!.

I purchased this unit used at a local computer recycler to use as amp for my computer. I have it paired with some JBL LX-22 speakers from the early 90s that I purchased in college. After 6 months of ownership I am really happy with this unit.

I appreciate the clean, clear sound at both low and high volumes, especially when streaming music. Basic features are easily accessed from the controls on the unit and I use the remote to adjust volume and turn on and off power.

The simple white display is easy to read but on the small side but that is not a concern for me as I use only one input.

Bluetooth & designated phono jack make this a great receiver, overall. I’m pleased with the sound quality, the features, and performance. The remote is convenient, and allows you to customize the names of the individual inputs.

The speaker wire terminal inputs are small, so it’s best to use a smaller gauge speaker wire. Other than that, there really are no negatives. You won’t find a better stereo receiver for this price, with these features.

Annoying that in bluetooth standby mode it incessantly blinks blue on startup and reconnects with your device. I’d prefer to choose on my device whether to connect before it does, guess my iPhone can’t do that.

this might be a complaint for my iPhone as much as a complaint about the receiver. I wish it would ask me if I wanted to connect to my iPhone at least, even if it can. I just keep bluetooth off on my phone so its not a huge deal.

However, in bluetooth standby mode, which is supposed to be convenient, if I have other devices I want to connect my iPhone to via bluetooth, once I turn bluetooth on on my phone, my receiver has to turn on and blink, and won’t turn off until I shut it off or pair it with my iPhone.

Functions are fine, have it connected to Atrium 4 Outdoor speakers in my garage through the wall. They are new to me too so I haven’t used them with other receivers but they get loud. sound fairly good with the speakers considering their price was relatively low.

Quality? Not great, but good enough for me. I’d probably need to spend 3 times the price for a better sounding system notwithstanding a premium for surround sound.

I have a medium sized room with laminate flooring an open floor plan speakers recessed in walls I was a little skeptical about 200 Watts covering this area especially since it had no subwoofer output.

The manufacturer gives an honest assessment about the power output keep that in mind most other manufacturers don’t. I’m using it to amplify PC stream and stream music through my phone. When my stream is on pause I’m not getting any noise through the system it’s beautiful and don’t worry about sub output if your sub has a input for high impedance it’s just as good if not better.

I bought this modestly-priced amp to temporarily replace my fine DIY vacuum tube monoblocks (which are acting up and I need to fix). I am driving a pair of Klipsch RF-5s. The sound quality of the Onkyo is not comparable to the monoblocks, in terms of separation and definition, but it is surprisingly good.

I am using the optical input (connected to a Macbook), a digital coax input (connected to an antique Squeezebox, playing FLAC files) and I am playing Spotify over WiFi. Everything works and was easy to set up.

There is plenty of power to fill a 600 sq ft room with sound (but I only play classical music at sensible volumes). So, all in all, I highly recommend this nice little amp. I haven’t owned a solid-state amp for years, and am pleased at the progress that has been made, for the price.

I just got this receiver today thinking it would be a good buy from the reviews I read here. Pretty disappointed in it and will likely return it. Played with the controls to try and make it sound acceptable but just not up to my standards.

It sounds muddy to me if that can be an audio term. Should have known by the cheap price that it would be cheap sounding. My wife doesn’t mind it but she likes lots of bass. It does have that. Over saturated in bass for my like.

It you turn back the base it sounds totally bland. I was going to place my old 25 year old Denon with it because it is a surround sound unit and I just wanted a 2 channel to play records on. The Denon kicks it ass.

This is the first time I have bought any Onkyo product. It will be the last time. I figured in 25 years things would have gotten better. Guess old school still rules in audio.

I use this unit in my small home office where I work 3 to 4 days per week. It provides the perfect blend of power, convenience, and functionality. I have it connected via my home ethernet network and it performs beautifully.

The YPAO feature worked great in achieving excellent sound in my small office. I have it connected to a pair of vintage JBL L20T speakers and a Polk subwoofer. I mainly stream music from my Mac over my home network and listen to FM news radio.

This is an excellent unit and I highly recommend it for those who desire a no-muss, no-fuss, easy-to-set-up unit that delivers excellent, high-fidelity sound.

The unit performs very well but there are some issues. #1 You have to manually set up wifi using your remote control that comes with the unit. Don’t try to follow the instructions for MusicCast if you are going to use an Android phone.

#2 Make sure when the unit connects to wi-fi or wired connection that it performs all firmware updates before proceeding. I found I could not use the MusicCast app to set up the unit because it needed firmware updates before it would connect.

WPS does seem to work for this. #3 once all the firmware is updated – and this might take multiple rounds, keep checking – THEN you can connect to the MusicCast app. #4 your phone if Android MUST be connected to a 2.

4GHz WiFi network and not a 5GHz. MusicCast app absolutely will not work when connected to 5GHz using an Android phone. Of course this may all change once Android updates its own software in the future.

Once I figured all this out, the unit works perfectly.

This receiver was purchased to replace a 24 year old Yamaha receiver. Pros: Nice simple appearance, good features for the price, easy to set up, felt well built. I had it hooked up, connected to my wifi (through IOS share) and playing via AirPlay very quickly.

Cons: the sound quality was disappointing. It sounded “leaner” than my old receiver that was rated at 80W vs this at 100W. Also it had a higher noise floor which I could hear at low volume levels. I may still recommend this if you have a basic audio system and you don’t want to spend any more.

I was looking to replace a 20 or more year old Technics receiver. I wanted a basic 2-channel one, & was comparing a Yamaha receiver with this Sony model, both were about the same price. What swung things in favor of the Sony was the phono input, which the Yamaha did not have.

That was very important to me, as I will be using it for playing vinyl, CD’s, & even tapes at times. The Bluetooth feature doesn’t mean much to me, though maybe that’ll change in the future. Anyway, very pleased with this receiver.

It’s easy to set up,& use. The remote is real nice, seems to have every function you could hope for. I think the only negative is the two big dials on the front of the receiver, one for volume, & one for input selecting, they look kind of awkward, & you’re bound to use the remote instead of those 99% of the time, push buttons would’ve looked better, but that is a minor quibble.

All in all, this is a solid unit at a very affordable price, very happy with it so far!.

I am used to high quality integrated amps from the 70’s. This amp has acceptable sound, but it does not match them. But, at this price range, this would be expected. I can’t see how it has 100 watts per channel.

My old 70’s amp had 90 watts and it was a lot more powerful. It is strong, but not 100 watts strong IMO. The volume control has a ton of friction in it. It’s just silly how much force it takes to twist it.

The electronic controls are something of a pain to use. The unit needs manual controls for tone and balance. but that would cost more probably. The display is smallish and hard to see. TIP: The unit requires electronic adjustment for 6 ohm or 8 ohm (and up) speakers.

I have 6 ohm speakers and the sound sure improved when I selected that. Mine did not have English in the manual. I asked the outfit that sent it to me for an English manual and they said they did not have any.

So, I just downloaded a PDF file from Sony, but I sure would rather have a paper one. No AM in the radio. Overall though, for the money, this unit is very good. I suggest using a good equalizer with it to get the best sound out of it.

From a technical standpoint, the sound, flexibility and use are all excellent. The Remote3 app should be an embarrassment to Onkyo. As well, using the regular remote to change alpha numeric labels and such is really, really annoying and the ability to do this should have been made available on the unit’s web page.

Of course you mostly only have to do this once, or infrequently. Still. Really impressed with my vendor and that the unit arrived a little ahead of schedule; thanks! Very happy I bought this.

The Onkyo arrived much earlier than expected which was great. The sound I was looking for came. too. Having lost some of my hearing I needed the Onkyo to improve the sound quality of our TV. Both the music and speech sound much better so I pleased with the purchase.

Love this receiver. Driving my whole house audio. Easily get sirius ( with subscription), pandora, etc. Also can use trad inputs, cd etc. Can use both cat5 or wifi connections. Awesome.
