20 Best Uses For Gopro (2022 Updated)

A few times I was close to return it. This is my first GoPro and the learning curve is steep. Camera does not come with a manual, can find one On Line. Everything is controlled with the touch screen, which has a mind of its own, sometime it responds sometime not.

Also one has to be careful not to touch the back screen unintentionally while fiddling with it. It may respond then and completely change the setting. The image quality in video is very nice, good stabilization, one need to learn not to expect miracles.

While biking even on flat road some small bumps are visible in the footage. Forget about mounting it on the front handle bar. I have it mounted on my helmet, a bit better but again, one needs to be careful, move slowly and avoid bumps if you want smooth footage.

The photo quality does not even come close to a regular camera, and I did not expect it to. Buttons are stiff, need to push them with conviction otherwise they don’t engage. So fine, I decided to keep it.

A great toy and it has its niche. I would not take my regular camera to places where this one can go.

I had earlier considered GoPro to deserve three stars, but between product bugs and moreover the impenetrable and inscrutable customer support, a mediocre rating is too generous. I write knowing that most consumers rate GoPro high, but having owned GoPros for over ten years and currently owning four, I think I can fairly say that the company never admits that its products have bugs, and when you try to get any but the most rudimentary support, your inquiry is sent to the team, a black hole where if a reply does manage to escape it might not be for ten days and then does not respond to the issues you raised.

To be clear, I am speaking not of just one experience, but multiples. I have returned one camera on a warranty issue because (among other things) it visually compressed the recorded image horizontally, ruining a shoot (the company apparently takes almost a month for an defective camera to be exchanged — I’m into my third week of waiting right now).

I am yet to learn why the time-remaining displayed when I record at 4K is less than the time-remaining at the otherwise same settings when I record at 5K. When I tried streaming video while recording at 5K, the image is grossly distorted (I understand that 5K has a different aspect ratio, but presumably that is corrected when streaming, and if not then GoPro should be able to explain that in a minute rather than two weeks).

I have found that to keep the camera from crashing in certain situations, it is best to record without a battery (assuming you can plug in to power). The list goes on. Software bugs can be tolerable if a company acknowledges the issue and communicates, but GoPro does neither.

Its poor front-end people are forced to exploit all the boilerplate apologies and assurances in their book to cover for the non-responsive team. Unfortunately, GoPro cameras seem to be the only product that do what they do (or are supposed to do, anyway), so there’s not much choice but to grin and bear it.

Or grin, anyway.

I got this Hero 7 Silver for Christmas and was so excited I was going to get to use it for my vacation in Belize. I went snorkeling and saw some beautiful coral reefs and fish and huge stingrays and thought it was videoing but found that this piece of junk got water inside where the SD card and port to charge it.

The cover looked completely closed but water got through it. I got about 5 minutes of recorded video from the beginning but lost the rest of the time I snorkeled for about an hour. The camera was about 5 feet deep underwater.

I was so heart broken that I could never get that experience again unless I go back. I was very disappointed with this product and this company and don’t think I will get another one. One because of the price and two I don’t know if I could trust another GoPro camera.

Havent used any of the “mods” yet. Have put a lot of use into this durable little camera,mostly suberging it in water,clean pool or murky river water. And water is probably the only thing keeping it from catching on fire.

It heats up like a handwarmer. Battery charges very slow,unless you use a 45 watt or higher c type charger,its charges very fast,from 0 to 100% in about 20 minutes. As far as video quality it is great,but what camera can you find for $400 that has 5k video.

The video is incredible,if there is enough light. If it is dim or dark,forget it,its like recording with a potato. The auto shutter and iso setting is not the best adaptable for night,or day sometimes.

The time lapse for sky views is amazing,they are decent,but at night in the city even if it seems dark,its not dark enough,can get some stars and clear view of the trees nearby,still is amazing nights shots with the time lapse,but oddly not great at all for normal night video.

As far as the remote app features,it needs work. The app screen is not integrated with the sites,you just have to take the apps word that it IS streaming,and a LOT of patience,as the streaming options on the app are outdated and you have to work around and troubleshoot to even be able to stream,very broken and nothing on google pertaining on the issues but unresolved questions.

It’s just not consumer friendly,in addition to poor connenction if farther 3ft from phone,the streaming is far from reliable. I have tried using the gopro for twitch streaming but the connection is bad.

I bought a galaxy s22 ultra for faster processing speeds to compensate for lag,but its doesnt matter,since it only uses wifi or the phones data plan “hotspot”,it eats through data. I have Gigabit speed home internet with 2 asus ax3000 routers,but even so,the gopro barely recieves wifi signal.

With the phones hotspot as wifi,unlimited data plan,it slightly impoves,but not much,as there is a signal bar screen for streaming with wifi or hotspot,it never goes past 4 bars,and it has a total of about 25 bars to show signal strength.

For twitch it keeps bugging out on the “start stream” button with an almost inescable error,about not having the correct “game catergory”,which is usally just the title of the game your playing or whatever title you want,there shouldnt be any restriction but if you dont use a video game title,letter for letter,it will keep giving the error,and when you do have a right working title,you have to use the same title on the actual Twitch app FIRST by starting a stream on the twitch app,while having open the GoPro app open,and praying it hasnt exited you from the “start stream” page ,starting the stream from your phone on the twitch app then switching over to the gopro app while streaming,to avoid the error that will eneavitable delay you another 20 minutes,as you have to enter the wifi password on the app,everytime.

The GoPro 9 is a very good camera, I have taken some nice footage so far. I would give the camera itself 5 stars, what is my issue is trying to find a way of editing the footage that doesn’t entail signing up and paying for the privilege.

Especially since you can’t even try the prospective packages to see if they work or are easy to use or not. All of the ‘free’ software packages are only free trials. then you have to sign up and pay, pay pay! I would have thought, buying a camera, you would be able to at least use the footage, simple cutting and trimming, without having to pay a yearly subscription.

Had I known, I wouldn’t have made the purchase. Phones are so much easier to use and use the footage. So, my view is that the camera is awesome, but using the resulting footage, if you are not experienced with post production and the costs of being able to do it, is a terrible experience without any sort of guidance and everywhere you look to be able to achieve results are just ad after ad for subscribing and paying.

Very disappointing. Even the GoPro app isn’t supported on PC any more? I just want a simple means of cutting out the unnecessary bits of the footage, or joining desired scenes together. nothing fancy.

Unless you are a teenager or very cluey on technology (or willingto learn), and not worried about handing out money hand over fist to purchase subscriptions to different editing suites until you find one you can use, I would steer clear of these cameras.

Research the post production costs before you buy, otherwise, you will likely be left disappointed like myself. Unless I can work out how to edit and use the footage, I fear the camera, as great as it is, will be just a technologically advanced.

GoPro: “Be a HERO. ” Catchy isn’t it? GoPro, a camera that attaches to your body and sports equipment, has advertisements that are mesmerizing, even for those outside of the action-sports world. In the ads, the camera and the editing place you in the athlete’s shoes.

Viewers get to see the sport in the first person. This is powerful. Their advertisements work. When I was young, I saw GoPros on the heads, limbs, and equipment of my favorite athletes: mountain bikers like Brandon Semenuk, Sam Pilgrim, and Emil Johanson; surfers like John Florence, Noa Deane, and Mick Fanning; and Skiers like JP Auclair, Seth Morrison, and Tanner Hall.

These athletes have risen to the top of their respective sports, truly masters of their chosen art. GoPro recognized their influence and the control these athletes could have over the market. The company decided to use lifestyle branding to connect these action cameras to the abilities that suchathletes have.

I was enthralled and convinced that my videos would turn out like theirs. Twelve-year-old Nick saved up for a month by doing odd jobs. Then he went out and bought a used GoPro Hero 4 black. After my first mountain bike ride, I ran inside to watch the footage I had just recorded, and it was grainy, shaky, and frankly nauseating to watch for any length of time.

I was disappointed, to say the least. I ran to the Internet to see what I had done wrong. I watched videos on what frame rate and shutter speed to use, and I spent yet more money on a bundle of attachments to mount the camera in different locations.

After playing with the settings and moving the camera around, I was still disappointed. This is because the marketing worked. No matter what setting I used or where I placed the camera, it wouldn’t look like the advertisements.

This is because I wasn’t as skilled as the athletes I watched growing up, but also because GoPro ads are shot using thousands of dollars in peripheral equipment, gimbals, lenses, and drones. Most importantly they are edited professionally, so the colors pop, the video is stable, and the location looks even more appealing.

This means that the videos shown in their ads are unachievable because of user skill. This is even more so because of the camera’s real abilities. The consumer-level products just aren’t that great. I have since purchased newer GoPros in hopes that they have improved.

They have, but only marginally with slightly better stabilization and picture. So I stand by my position that the look of those ads is unachievable for a day-to-day consumer, like me.

I’ve been waiting for this a long time and finally got it. It makes my videos super cool especially doing sports. And most importantly it keeps the horizontal level locked and that makes video looks much cooler.

The GoPro Hero 9 Black has been a real pain. The camera struggles very hard to update, I’ve had to restart updates many times when they havent gone all the way through wasting hours of my time. Downloading pictures and videos to my phone also takes hours and you cant leave the app not to mention the gopro’s screen will randomly go black if you dont touch it every so often(yes I turned the screen darking off in the settings it still does it) and then you have to start the download over.

I’ve tried to setup the “auto upload” feature many times and have never had success. And recently the gopro just randomly deleted over half of the videos and pictures I took while diving. Considering I make money off the videos it was quite devastating.

And “waterproof” is just a flat out lie I had mine break in a couple feet of water and it took months and a horribly long process to get a replacement. If you plan to use it underwater at all you need a waterproof case.

You also need to prepare to spend good money on extra batteries and chargers because it dies ridiculously fast. I’m not impressed when I’ve paid $500+ for this camera and accessories.

I have owned my Hero 9 for a couple moths now, and I really want to love this camera, but there are just to many issue plaguing it. I updated to firmware version 1. 52 (I believe) when I first got it, which was the latest version at the time.

When shooting in certain video modes, you could clearly see a vertical line going down the middle of the footage because one side of the footage was sharper/more colorful then the other. The GoPro support system is a joke.

The only way you get any support is via E-Mail that could take 2 to 3 days to get replies It’s more or so faster to get answers to your questions or issues you are having by posting comments on their community forums.

When I did this, I discovered there are a large number of users who had the same issue as I did. The vertical line issue was acknowledged by GoPro staff on the forums as far back as December of 2020.

On February 25th, 2021 GoPro released a new firmware for the Hero 9 to fix random bugs and the vertical line issue. I did not update the firmware, because a huge amount of users came back and said the issue was not resolved for them after the firmware update.

I am still on the first firmware version, because it is the only version that is stable for me to avoid this vertical line issue. Another issue I experienced that others are still complaining about on the user forums is that the extra GoPro battery charger that charges 2 batteries at once is not charging the batteries to 100%.

Sometimes it only goes to 90% or 95%. Again, the user forums have multiple complaints about this, with many users getting exchanges for new units that are still having the same issue. I got so frustrated with this camera’s issues, I stopped reading up on the forums.

I no longer am hopeful these issues will be fixed anytime soon. The customer support is just God awful, and the only replies GoPro team members leave on the forums is candid replies like ‘We are aware of the issue and working towards a fix”.

The reason why I did not return the camera is because it works for what I need for under the original firmware version, and after hearing so many positive things about GoPro for years, I bought a bunch of accessories for it when I ordered it.

Overall, when it works correctly, it’s great. Sharp, crisp footage, really solid audio for a built in mic, and plenty of shooting options in resolution and frame rates. But the issues it is plagued with are just too much.

This is my first GoPro, and it will be last.

I am impressed by the quality of the images that this small camera can produce and by the stabilization performances, but with a caveat, only in good light conditions. In low light it seems you have different camera.

I use it mostly for my sport activities (Biking, MTBiking, skiing, snorkeling, hiking, etc) and recording my family vacations, events and activities. The image stabilization is so good you do not need a gimbal for this camera.

The menu system is easy, intuitive and fast, perfect for an action camera. The back screen and front screen are great for what I need to do. Video, photo and time lapse mode have basically all I need and from my experience work very well.

The lens removal system is a great feature they added, this will come useful in case the lens get scratched or if you want to mount filters or any other mods. The bad things: As mentioned the low light performance, some random software crashes and in my opinion the GoPro mounting system is old and needs to be redesigned also looking at what competitors have done.

The GoPro screwing mount is slow and bulky, not very very friendly when you need to move the action camera around quickly from one accessory to another. I was able to mitigate this issue by using the ULANZI quick release system, but all this stuff on top makes the camera heavier and more bulky.

GoPro needs to create a new attachment system, maybe using magnets like DJI is doing. Also I hate how GoPro manages accessories and the way they integrate into the camera. If you can, buy the Enduro battery as it is 200% times better then the standard gopro battery.

I have had this action camera for only a few days, and I have not taken any video with it yet. As a beginner to all of this, I have had to learn some lessons by stumbling around a little or a lot. After the fact, I learned I needed to manually update the camera with the latest firmware because attempting it using the phone app does not work.

The camera overheated just sitting around learning how to use it, and after I did the manual firmware update, that problem resolved – that is not to say that it still does not get warm. Next – I did not order a sufficiently powerful micro SD card.

I ended up getting a San Disk Extreme Plus UHS-3 rated card. That apparently has helped, also. It is rather warm as I write this review. I set the auto off at 15 minutes to see how it feels after just sitting around.

I did not charge the battery in camera. I bought a dual battery charger, and that works just fine for charging the battery. I bought what seems like a boat load of accessories from screen protectors, cases, sleeves, cages and a remote.

Also bought an external mic. I guess a cage is an absolute necessity if you are going to use an external mic with a GoPro mic adapter because the side door has to be removed to plug in the mic adapter which has a USB-C connector.

I bought just one extra lens for the moment – a circular polarizer. Hopefully my Dell Inspiron 7000 Series laptop will not choke when I download the video content in 5K. So far, I have not found anything that says I cannot do that.

Okay, as I conclude this review, the camera is definitely warm but not to the point of being untouchable, the battery power is down to 77% from 100%. I hope B&H will allow me to post a subsequent review once I start recording video and downloading it to my Windows laptop.

I hope to make this camera work up to its expectations, but I think GoPro has some work to do on design, etc. Maybe they could design a new door where the battery and USB connection is so that you don’t have to remove it to attach a mic adapter.

A person should not need a special cage for that purpose. I am sure I will come up with some other critiques. I have a feeling I will be happy with the video in the end and get some enjoyment from this camera, but people who are new to this are going to have to spend time on the Internet to learn how to resolve their overheating problems related to improper firmware update techniques, etc.

So that is where I will leave this review for now. Maybe a really great video camera, but especially for newbies, a long learning curve and stumbles and bumbles along the way. Do lots of internet research on every little thing you can think of.

I have owned a few go pros (7 and 8) prior to the 10 and somehow escaped SD card error problems. As a mom on vacation in Hawaii, I really wish I had tested this Hero 10 at home, thoroughly for 3-7 days with all kinds of scenarios and frame rates/SD cards, after purchasing it and bringing it on vacation.

Instead, I shot a few clips around the house and packed it up, leaving my trusty Hero 8 (and its memory cards that all work well) at home. Bad Move. I trusted GoPro, based on past good experiences. On this trip over Thanksgiving, this camera and SD card errors is causing distress, distraction, stress; I lost ~ 2 days of footage.

Spent time trying to buy over-priced microSD cards, and the wasted too much valuable vacation time trying to troubleshoot this situation: my brand new GoPro Hero 10 records video and then produces SD Card Error which forces me to format and erase all footage.

That is TERRIBLE. I’ve spent time trying to recover the footage and have looked into Tensorshare and cardrescue, but I need a larger hard drive/will just try to do this after vacation when at home. I’m writing this as a warning to others.

The camera has a lot of great features and those seem to work well. the additional frame rates, faster processor, front facing camera, new time lapse options, stabilization, etc. Better, snappier, UI on the screen.

Removable lens. I like what they’ve done, generally, but the company needs to address this quickly and/or buyers need to be ready to lose anything they’ve shot. My firmware is updated (but through the app AND then I tried with the manual method).

I have fast SD cards (SanDisk – Extreme PLUS 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card and similar latest and greatest) that were formatted in camera. I do not recommend SanDisk for this, although I NEVER had problems with my Hero8 and SanDisk.

I only have SanDisk because that is what always worked with my Hero 8. I will try another brand, maybe Samsung Evo or Lexar ??.

Over the years I’ve had different types and brands of “action cameras”. All of them had their own styles, functions and benefits. I always went for the ones with smaller stealthier look so you didn’t look like you were carrying a lunchbox or a camcorder of the 80’s haha and we all know how big those were.

Advancements in technology have gotten these cameras downsized so small and yet they still manage to pack more features and better internals and externals than the much larger ones years ago. Instead of “viewfinders” now they have fully integrated dual full color digital LCD screens.

One smaller one on the front and a wider touchscreen version on the back with all of the details right there on the screen with bright clear color icons as well. The features on this thing are crazy! 3 Viewing fields, 16:9, 4:3, and now 8:7.

You’ve got the option of 4k or 5. 3k, 60, 30, or 24 frames per second. The newer 8:7 ratio at 5. 3k now gives us 24. 7 million!! pixels, compared to the older 5. 3k at 16:9 ratio which was a mere 15.

8 million pixels. You’ve got ProTune options that allow you to adjust Bit rate, shutter speed, white balance, your iso ratio, and your exposure value. And now a 10 bit capability versus the 8 bit they used to have which was roughly 16 million and now 10 giving you roughly 1 billioooon megapixels (Dr.

Evil in Austin Powers voice) haha which gives you a real clarity upgrade and richness in color. The lens options they give you are Linear + Horizon Lock (full 360 degree rotation) which in my opinion was the coolest because you could basically twist the camera all the way around upside down but the video stayed straight forward the entire time upside down or right side up, Linear 19-39mm, Wide 16-34mm, Superview 16mm, and Hyperview 12mm.

Another really cool option is night mode! You can really get some trick shots that you normally see only done with DSLR’s. One mode is Star Trails which if you set your camera outside aimed up for a while its a time lapsed shot that captures the stars moving but gives the effect that you see when you’re watching Star Wars and about to jump into hyperspace where they all become lines instead of stars.

The next one is Vehicle Lights, again time lapsed shots of cars or traffic passing by giving you a constant stream of light which makes for some awesome shots. Then there is Light Painting where you set the camera out and you can take any light source in your hand and make designs in the air or even air write your name or make shapes and the camera time lapse gives you that full shape or design.

I’ve done this with DSLR’s which you have a lot more settings to deal with to get this right so being able to do these at the touch of a button here makes me love this little camera even more. Everything included is the HERO11 Black camera itself , a nice hard shelled carrying case that’s big enough for all of the included accessories and camera itself, Enduro Rechargeable Battery, curved adhesive mounts, mounting buckle + thumb screw, USB type C cable and free SD card.

I would definitely recommend this to others!.

GoPro has become the expected name in action cameras for good reason. The cameras tend to do everything better than everyone else, have the best support and the most accessories. To start, the GoPro Hero 11 Black comes packaged in brown paper around a canvas/nylon carry semi-hardcase, which I find to be very cool, and reminiscent of the previous generations.

With all of these companies working towards renewable packaging, this is probably one of the best examples, simple paper with a carry case that is reusable by the customer rather than a bunch of single-use plastics.

It may cost SLIGHTLY more than single use plastic, but honestly, in the way many of these companies create this stuff in volume, it’s probably not so dramatic and it cuts down on the footprint of items like this.

Plus, it just adds to the cool factor. In setup, it’s very straightforward, there’s a little door in the side that houses the battery and a spot for an SD card. The camera is waterproof to 10 meters, but I haven’t taken the time to test that yet (fundamentally I know things like this and my phone have an amount of water resistance, but there’s still something about me and tossing electronics in the water, I suppose someday I’ll get over it).

The Hero 11 Black carries the same form factor as the previous generations, so it is easy to swap in mods and accessories from the previous gens without much concern. Of most note is the larger sensor in the camera to give it higher quality, larger images at higher resolution.

The front facing screen is nice for keeping track of what the camera is recording when it is facing you. I have to say though, the image quality is outstanding. The new sensor is superb, the aspect ratio gives an immense amount of control over the video, particularly if you need to crop or change things based on certain types of content creation.

There’s so much room to play with this here. I really cant say enough about this. In low light conditions, I still find the image to be quite good, though definitely not on the level of an appropriately lit image.

Really it’s hard to find anything negative to say. There’s an improvement with this camera over the 10, it’s noticeable, and if you don’t already own the 10, it’s a worthy upgrade over most previous cameras in the line.

I easily recommend this to anyone in the market for an action camera.

I had a Contour camera that stopped working properly and decided to “upgrade” to Gopro (which put Contour out of business, I presume). The Hero is a power-eating machine that eats batteries for breakfast.

Picture quality is great – but you have no idea what mode your camera is in unless you are holding the camera – which defeats the entire purpose of having a Gopro. If I am going to hold a camera, the Gopro – which is small and has no attachment points of any kind – is a very poor choice.

But once it is mounted, you can easily change from video to photo with the SAME BUTTON that you use to start the video! So you press the button and either you get a video or nothing (because the first press changed modes instead of starting the camera).

then you press again and instead of a video you get a photo. It’s like Russian Roulette with your memories. Good luck getting the shots you want. I spent a day skiing with my new Hero 10 and the MOST IMPORTANT SHOT ended up in “Time Lapse Mode” – which is to say it is useless.

Their desktop app crashes and they email me every day asking if it is somehow working even though they have offered NO SUGGESTIONS as to how to fix it except – you guessed it: “Try reinstalling the same software program (and leave us alone since you already bought the camera and we don’t really care what you think)” Their tag line should be: Lose your memories – and your mind – with Hero 10.

Positives: Small, Durable, Versatile, Water-Proof, Easy to use adjustable settings. Video stabilization is awesome. Negatives: File sizes are insanely huge, take up lots of memory fast and no good way to really tone it down.

Go-Pro Color is completely off, over-saturated, and unnatural to reality. One can however turn that off providing some improvement. Quite a bit of digital distortion/fragmenting around moving subjects.

Does not come with a plug in charger for the wall or much else for that matter. Still images lack detail zooming in and are about the equivalent of a cheap smartphone. No built in stereo mic? Less expensive Sony cameras had that 10 years ago along with other features this does not have.

Final Conclusions: Great for what it’s built for (Durability/Action shots but certainly could use some improvements on some things less expensive cameras from other brands were already doing 10+ years ago.

Decent enough little camera but I feel just a tad over-rated. AVCHD Sony video from 10 years ago has better color, less fragmenting, overall more pleasant and natural looking to watch. Simply having higher video resolution isn’t everything when it comes to overall video quality.

Certainly beats what I’ve previously owned when it comes to image stability though.

The actual camera is great! Great action camera! Already made a video of myself mudding on some trails behind my house just to test it out (planning on using it for YouTube music cover videos) and it looks amazing! Most of the accessories are great as well! However, some of the accessories (for instance, the carrying case) are not GoPro equipment.

They are generic. most of the equipment, although not produced by GoPro, works great with the camera and have already been utilized (I used the chest strap for the mudding video). The carrying case does not hold the GoPro well.

It has a spot to put it but there is about an inch on each side of the GoPro from the walls of the foam. If you are planning on traveling with your GoPro, you’ll want a better case for sure. The extendable arm that comes in the kit has two attachments, one that you screw the GoPro to (works great) and one that was meant to hold a phone (Does NOT work with the GoPro).

However, if you were to buy these accessory products from GoPro, they are a pretty penny. So it’s still definitely a deal! So, in summary: – Camera = Great!!! – Accessories = Good for price, but just adequate in functionality Hope this helps!!.

I love my go pro. It has been great to take traveling to get footage on any adventure. I never worry about it getting wet or damaged because it is built for the elements. I have gotten some great shots on this thing.

The only downside I have found (which there may be ways around that I have not yet figured out) is that it is hard to get good video quality if there is poor lighting and there isn’t any way to zoom on the camera.

The battery runs out pretty quickly but carrying additional battery packs solves this. Overall great purchase.

I bought the hero 7 Black second hand as it was the cheapest Gopro that does Linear field of view (no fish eye for me). It records well in good light outside but struggles with grainy footage indoors.

Once I’d watched some tutorials about turning on Protune and modifying the settings to suit indoor and outdoor light levels I was impressed with the footage. On auto settings indoors I thought the camera was broken based on the footage! Also make sure you get an approved memory card of the correct speed rating or it’ll never work properly (Gopro website lists the correct cards) Pleased.

Good but battery charge doesnt last long, file transfer speed is slow and cant cord connect to iPhone. Also you only get basic features on the app unless you pay. You need a newer model (I think) if you want to live stream from the cam.

If you buying this second hand, as most would be now, its worth getting one with extra batteries and mounts etc or youll end up having to buy these separately. Its worth buying 2nd hand as so many people with too much money buy the latest and never use them, so youll pick up a bargain and its does much the same as the newer models.

This started out being a great little camera. until my son wanted to film a science experiment, underwater. We first made sure it didnt need any extra external cover/casing, then made sure all of the openings were securely closed.

He filmed for approximately 15 minutes, and then. nothing. The camera simply stopped functioning. We thought it was that perhaps the battery hadnt been fully charged, but, nope. Water behind the LCD screen, water in the battery compartment, memory card compartment, and USB ports.

Tried literally everything to get it working again. Not happening. Its deader than a door nail.

I love this camera. I use it, along with a multitude of GoPro accessories, for capturing the serenity of my canoe tripping in the backcountry. It is rugged, durable, waterproof, and has never failed me.

Battery life isn’t fantastic, so I usually carry 4-5 extras with me as well as the dual battery charger and a few mobile battery chargers while out on longer trips. But recording 4K30fps footage it will last me for approximately 2 hours straight if desired and other settings are limited (screen off, wireless off, etc.

). 4K footage takes up a lot of space which has nothing to do with GoPro so I carry several 128GB cards as well. I’ve used it with the head strap, chesty, 3-way tripod and extension arm, super suit, and several other accessories and it has stood the test of rugged backcountry use.

It has been fantastic. I read another review about charring inside the battery housing after underwater use. This is definitely due to water leaking in to the case and usually means the battery door was not entirely sealed.

If using this underwater, always make sure all side doors are sealed (sometimes it takes an extra second of fiddling to ensure it closes securely). I also typically will use the Super Suit when doing pure underwater footage as extra protection never hurt anyone.

All in all, I love this camera, and given the minimal difference in specs vs the Hero 6, I’m happy with this. Cheers.

Since it isn’t a hero 5 black, but a hero 2018. I thought there might be some differences, but there isn’t. Its firmware has been knowledeably reflashed and it works great. It came with a bunch of extras and a remote.

I prices some of the extras and it is more than offordable to buy full extras packages and batteries together than shopping sepertley and paying shipping on other stuff and waiting for things to arrive.

Battery life is waaayyy to short. Less than an hour. Thats my only disappointment.

Its great! for recording video on anything . I use it for model railroad videos setting on a railcar just behind the engine . Great for ho , o. an G scale recordings. Charges fast easy setup.

These are really good cameras. especially if you plan to record in adverse conditions. The Go Pro Hero (2018) is the Hero 5 Black. They just downgraded the software. If you know a little about setting up and loading software, I’ve got software that’ll take the Hero to the Hero 5 Black.

Horrible! I literally spent over an hour fully setting this GoPro Hero 10 up and performed all pairing and updates and it overheated within 10 minutes of my first use. Yes, I removed all stickers and packaging.

I placed the camera on my table and began recording. It over heated in my air conditioned home within 10 minutes. There is no excuse for a $500. 00 product failing within 10 minutes in cool, clean conditions.

How is this built for extreme activities? I have Zero confidence in GoPro and the products they make. I have absolutely no confidence that a GoPro product will perform in ANY situation including anything remotely close to the activities advertised by GoPro.

I discovered that many people have the exact same overheating issue I experienced. Please reconsider making this purchase. I already packed everything up and will be returning it later today. I am thankful I discovered the poor build quality and zero reliability of GoPro before I went on vacation.

I realize many people enjoy GoPro cameras, unfortunately my experience was regrettable. That company would have to literally give me one for free for me to waste my time and money again.

When the camera works, the video quality is really good. But basic stuff like charging, which should be a slam dunk, doesn’t work or requires way more messing-with than is possible in the field. On my first outing with Hero 10, I pulled the camera out of my pack, it was hot to the touch and not responsive to the power or shutter buttons.

Required a battery pull to get responsive again. Later when recharging attached to wall power, the red charging LED went out after about 10 minutes – uh oh – and camera again became hot to the touch, unresponsive, and after a battery pull I discovered that battery was discharged! Returned for a replacement.

Replacement Hero 10 upon power up would complain about the SD card, beep, and reboot. Rinse, repeat. Was able to get latest firmware installed, and the reboot loop seemed to stop, but once again the charging issue was happening again.

Fool me once, fool me twice. Bottom line is that GoPro has released a half-baked product, and is outsourcing the testing to the users. After 2 strikes, I opted to try for a Hero 9 from a different retailer.

If you choose to buy this (and I highly recommend you don’t!), keep it on a short leash. Really work it through its paces, because the return window is pretty short and you could end up with a dud.

So I got one of these with the intention of using it on my motorbike helmet, in my car and hand held during various different types of events. Ultimately, I’m a little disappointed. Motorbike: while attached to my helmet, using a bunch of extra pieces I had to buy in order to get it positioned properly, I came across my first issue.

Sound. The microphone on the device (unsurprisingly) picks up little else other than wind noise. I had initially intended to combat this by using a bluetooth microphone, however GoPro haven’t included this feature.

You can wirelessly link to your phone for media playback, live view and cloud upload but that’s it. So my alternative option was to buy the extremely expensive and terrible external mic adapter. This brick of a device enables you to connect a 3.

5mm jack microphone to the camera. However it’s large size, small cable, and the fact it reduces all waterproof to 0 means it kinda sucks and feels like an after thought feature that no one in development was actually that interested in designing.

On top of this, IT DOESN’T EVEN WORK. There is a special method to getting it to record sound which involves something like turning the camera on with the external adapter plugged in but not the mic, then plug the mic in when you are ready to start recording, make sure the small screen on the camera is lit up, press record and you should get sound.

I tried is and a few other variations before I lost a total of nearly 12 hours worth of footage (over 5 attempts and several days) where I was talking about the areas I was riding through such as the peak district but all sound was removed from the video.

No voice, no engine, not even any wind. Car: so in my car I used another attachment I purchased to put the camera on the passenger seat headrest, giving the viewer a passengers perspective. The video is great but the sound still sucks.

The roar of my cars engine and road noise (It’s a Mazda cx-3, not exactly high on the DB counter!) Still beat my voice in clarity, and I had to tall quite loudly to be heard over it. You can adjust the noise a bit in editing but from the attempts I tried my voice was very flat, lacking bass and basically made me sound like Kermit the frog.

I’m fairness, I didn’t spend long toying with this, maybe an hour of different settings. Hand held: this is where the device actually has use. It’s small size and lightweight design makes it easy to walk around with and shoot things you are looking at, or use it on a selfie stick to record yourself while being mobile etc.

The sound in natural outdoors isn’t too bad butif you are close to a busy road be prepared to spend some time editing the audio in post. As with the other attempts, the video is superb. I always filmed in 1080p at various FPS as I have almost no use for anything higher.

I have a 4K tv but most of what I want to show will be on things like FB, YouTube etc where most devices that use these are HD only. The image stability seems to work, and the only downside to using the camera like this is the 90-100 minute recording time on a fixed battery.

I beat this by also carrying an external power pack and plugging it in for boosts now and then, which just means carrying around another device and cable (and of course eliminates it’s waterproof rating) So to sum up; if you want a good camera you can use as a simple dash cam with great video quality, or to record things where audio isn’t such an issue in louder environments, this camera will be a great one to consider.

If you want to do things more along the lines of motovlogging or require to be heard from a distance greater than 2 feet, you may want to look elsewhere.

I do weekend long Horse trail riding, 7 to 30 miles per day, I have always wanted a better way than either my phone or handheld camera to record my adventures. I have been intrigued by the small size of the Session models from GoPro.

When I would ask people, I would get answers like; It’s too complicated, usually followed by they could never get it to work. Well I bought a Hero5 Session anyway. The best thing I ever did. I set it up in about 2 minutes with my phone, I also, change settings quite frequently depending on what I am planning on using the captures for, it is so easy.

Once I have it setup for the particular task, the Voice control does the rest. It doesn’t get any easier than “GoPro start recording” “GoPro Stop recording”. or “GoPro shoot burst” & since I discovered it is pretty easy to grab individual frames from the videos within the app, I do that most often.

I will use the Burst mode when I a trying to save battery. I love my Hero5 Session and recommend it, just take a minute to go through the app and you will be successful. The only negative I have, which isn’t bad is, I wish I didn’t have to edit out “GoPro stop recording” everytime.

So like you, I was skeptical about a $300 device for over 50% off. And the word “refurbished” too. In short, I ordered this first week of April 2018. I got it delivered within a few days (Colorado to Norcal).

The packaging is a plain box, and all you get is a USB cable, mounting bracket, the Session 5 Gopro, and a brief instruction book. You WILL need a memory card. A Sandisk Ultra 64GB XC1 will run around $25 and hold up to 4 hours of video (or a few thousand photos).

I’ve been testing the unit the past few days: 1. If you record at 1080p at 60fps and continually monitor using your phone/wifi – you’ll get about 35-40 minutes of battery life. 2. If you record at 1080p at 60fps and no phone monitoring – you’ll get the rating 1 hour and 20 minutes of battery life.

So I highly suggest positioning your Session, check with your phone, and then shut down the phone/app and let the session do it’s thing. For charging, it’s dead on 2 hours to go from 0-100% using a 2amp USB charger.

Think one you’d use for a BIG phone or tablet. Rinky-dink low power USB chargers WILL take longer. I am totally stoked about this session. It’s literally brand new. MY ebay rating is 100% since 1999.

First one I ordered elsewhere had issues operating from battery after the first day so I returned it and ordered from B&H. The 2nd one arrived in totally different packaging which indicates the 1st one was an earlier release.

As I also recently discovered with my newly purchased Hero 9 Black, some recording modes unfortunately utilize the wretched HEVC h. 265 codec, which is a pain to edit. Many older CPUs and GPUs don’t have the hardware decoding ability so it will not work on such systems regardless of the software you install.

For instance one of my i7 machines could import and play it but the older i7 couldn’t even using the same software. The GoPro App will allow you to work with and export the footage, and Resolve 17, Lightworks Pro, HitFilm Pro (new version) and Vegas Pro 19 all can work with the footage to some degree.

Premiere Pro CS6 will not but apparently the latest rental CC version has a plugin for it. Capturing 360 video is an exciting new world and I’m looking forward to all the great things that can be done.

At the very least it replaces having 2 regular GoPros facing opposite directions. The quality is good and it comes with extra lens covers. This thing is so much fun I’ll likely buy another one when the price drops near discontinue time.

Absolute garbage and the employee sold it to us to just sell the product. After readint the safe guidelines it is clear the GoPro MAX is an unusable object. From every angle it says to DO NOT HANDLE DO NOT TOUCH DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT.

DO NOT THROW AWAY OR RECYCLE. DONT CHARGE FOR THE FULL ALLOTMENTS. dont plug into a wall. THE KICKER WAS DO NOT USE ON A HELMET???? Then what is the point of this at all. When it also says not to use in temps below 9°F which makes this impossible to use anywhere but Florida during the winter, and during the summer well you might completely out of luck, Becuase the GOPRO IS PRONE to overheating and starts over heating at 68°F and also is prone to heating damage while being plugged into the computer.

The other big issue is the lack of support from GoPro or any sources. The GoProMAX is not worth its weight as a paperweight (its lense may get scratched and they arent responsible for it. ) Its all just the worst.

The GoPro HERO9 is notably better but still holds the same major flaws of extreme temperature issues and unhandlability.

How to describe the Go Pro 360 Max. AH-HA! The most pitiful design of technology since the white Xbox 360. Here is why? 1. I don’t understand why it was given the name “MAX” when it’s predessors is compatible and has way more accessories than it.

2. I don’t understand why it was given the name “360” when it doesn’t display 360 footage correctly or at all from its camera on different computer types. Such as tablets, androids, etc even with the gopro quick app installed.

3. The battery life span is hilariously awful. I would compare it to a virgin man climaxing for the first time. Quick. 4. May somebody please tell me why the power button or on/off button is also the mode button that changes the camera mode aswell? I sure hope nobody hit the power button and leave it on time lapse mode and press record.

Your screwed and highly livid. 5. Why the cover for the battery, SD card, and USB wants to a loner? Seriously the cover wants to detach everytime you open it. It doesn’t want to stay committed to the camera as it should.

I wasn’t given the option to select my model specifically so I apologize in advance. I have the GoPro Hero8 and I adore it. I’ve always wanted one and finally purchased it. One of the best decisions.

It’s got amazing picture and video quality with lots of customization that is user friendly or easy to adjust for the pros. Video is smooth and I love the gyroscope stabilizer. It is a game changer! I train and ride horses so being able to see what they’re doing or what I’m doing is so nice to have.

It is easy to pair to your phone and the GoPro app makes it easy to download your footage straight to your phone in no time. Lots of great accessories that you can utilize to get the most out of it. I love everything about it.

Its fun to use, though you need to buy the casing separately, if you are wanting to wear the camera on a helmet etc. Really easy to set up. When I first used mine, I set it recording and left it till I had finished my ride 3 hrs later.

The footage wasnt 3hrs long, it had split in down into bite sized clips. Though I didnt expect this, I kinda like that. I take this camera out with me every time now. Good clear footage. Yes the pic quality will be jittery if you are bouncing around a trail.

Yes there is some distortion at the edge of the picture, but that doesnt ruin the rest of the picture for me.

I m using go pro for 2 years now n i lovey go Pro. Super picture quality. Superb video n sound quality. It’s waterproof. Ya you can record underwater. It’s light weight. Have so many features. Easy to use.
