20 Best Valerian For Sleep (2022 Updated)

Hi love Gaia herbs, period. Their Valerian Root capsules are amazing. I tried different brands available at the Vitamin Shoppe and other stores, but none of them work as well as Gaia herbs. I also love how you can meet your herbs through Gaia.

There are so many herbal blends and brands out there that use different, less potent parts of the plant. It makes a huge difference on whether you’re using the stem, the leaves, or the root, as the potency levels differ for each one.

The entire line of Gaia herbs is phenomenal.  🌿.

I’ve been having a hard time sleeping for a few years. Nothing seemed to have worked as good as this supplement which I randomly saw and purchased. Not even prescribed medication had this effect on my sleep.

The fact that I can now sleep well, has helped me tremendously in every area of my life. I now wake up rested and ready to work and tackle anything that comes my way. As you all probably know, sleep deprivation has a huge impact on one’s health.

So happy I tried Valerian Root from Gaia. I’ve heard of valerian for a long time but hesitated because I always heard it smelled horrible. Well this brand has no bad smell or taste and it’s helping me relax and sleep.

I have historically had a difficult time falling and staying asleep. Then in the morning, I am totally exhausted from not getting a good night’s restful sleep. I can’t recommend this product enough. After trying many remedies over the years, this is my favorite.

After taking two about 30 minutes before going to bed, I am able to fall asleep and stay asleep. Plus I don’t wake up with a hangover feeling, like muscle relaxers cause. I also have symptoms of restless leg syndrome, and these seem to help that also.

I am totally amazed at the difference these vitamins have made in my quality of sleep and ultimately the way I feel. I always wake up after 2- 3 hours with other sleep aids, but with these, I typically get an entire night’s sleep and feel well rested and refreshed in the morning!.

The consultant at the store sold me on it, said that her boyfriend and her mother swear by it. It worked great the first two times (I was drowsy within a half-hour) but by the third time it stopped working.

Tried it a fourth the next night and nothing. I guess It lost its effectiveness with me. It would be nice if it was sold in a smaller quantity. I still have more than 100 capsules left.

This product was truly a blessing for me. I was having difficulty sleeping for years, stressing about work and life matters such that I got to accept that four hours of sleep on a week night was a good amount.

Discussing my situation with a friend of mine, he recommended melatonin. I take two (2) about two hours before bedtime, or earlier if I have been to the gym or taken any caffeine in the second half of the day, and I sleep like a baby.

I am so much more productive, focused, and positively disposed during the day now after a good night’s deep sleep.

The first time I used this product was several years ago, when it was recommended to me by my Doctor, a Holistic Practitioner And MD. I had just lost my Father; husband lost his job and we had to sell our home and move.

Yes, I was a bit stressed. I used it and it worked!! I like the liquid version because I always forget to take this particular product Before I actually need it. Tinctures are naturally absorbed more quickly and therefore, produce results more quickly.

HerbPharm uses organically grown valerian and it delivers more bang [valerian] for the buck than others. ALSO, it contains no alcohol. IT WORKS FOR ME – when taken between meals in a small amount of water.

I take it at least 5-6 times a day when I’m Very stressed and less when I’m not so stressed. I don’t take it at all when its not needed. No, I do not now, nor have I ever, worked for HerbPharm. I simply have complete faith in the Brand and their products since they have been consistently effective for me through the years.

I’m writing this review today because I happen to read a critical and nasty review here on I-Herb. I wanted to share my positive experience so that folks looking for a good product on which to spend their money.

This tincture is without question the most effective non-prescription product for the promotion of sleep/relaxation. I would like to provide a bit of a *WARNING* or word to the wise, though. I made the mistake of not reading all of the product information in full before attempting to take my first dose, and unfortunately I [wrongly] assumed that the liquid in the dropper was to be used in the same way one would administer-for example-something like CBD oil; directly putting the contents of the bottle from the dropper to underneath the tongue.

however, that is not at all the correct process to be used in taking this product considering the nature of this liquid supplement which consists of the active ingredients in an ethanol-suspension which is intended to be diluted with water or another beverage in order to avoid the SERIOUS burning that will occur if you make my same mistake! Other than the bumpy start-which was my own fault-once I began ingesting the product correctly, it worked like a literal dream for me.

I never dread “bedtime” anymore. This product gives me the perfect blend of a sense of calm and relaxation, allowing me to shut my mind off with zero restlessness and fall asleep with ease in less than 10-15 minutes after taking this along with my melatonin, shutting the lights and hitting my pillow.

I almost always sleep through the entire night and never wake up groggy or hungover like the majority of other sleep medications. I would recommend that anyone who feels they have done enough due diligence into researching the ingredients and the Gaia brand to give this product a try.

It’s of course possible-and likely- that this won’t work for everybody and will work better for some than others but I have struggled with sleep issues for nearly half of my entire life (I’m 32 now and issues began around 17-18) I have tried countless products and I am relieved/thrilled to have found something that actually works this well.

I have been using Gia Herbs since 2008 and I LOVE it. I suffered a concussion and my doctor recommended I take Valerian Root to sleep and in the morning take Ginkgo and Ginseng in the morning to help wake me up.

I had to train myself to get proper rest without the use of prescription medications. I found this product and have been recommending it since. I LOVE this product and will continue to use as needed.

maybe its her weight; 186lb. I’ve used valerian in the past and get sound sleep from it. So I purchased for 83yo mother. 1 dropper full. doesn’t have the same effect.

I just gave a good review on one of CARLYLE products. They are a great company! Ive used other brands of Valerian root products. Most of them were fakes. If it doesnt stink. Dont buy it! (Valarian root is suppose to smell strong).

I take a little more of this wonderful (but very stinky) product to help me do battle with a severe, chronic type of insomnia. *Valerian is a naturally stinky root. For the average person, taking this product as directed should be just right to help them sleep through the night!.

This is the first valerian root product that has worked for me. Apparently the amount of “mg” really does make a difference. Definitely will purchase again.

So far, so amazing! I’ve been struggling with sleep issues my ENTIRE life. I’ve tried teas, aroma therapy, meditation, sleep hygiene programs, melatonin (or various combinations of melatonin and other ingredients), stubbornness, determination, berating myself, OTC drugs, prescription drugs, CBD, different pillows and bedding.

You name it, I’ve probably tried it. NOTHING was helping. I’ve probably spent thousands, and even saw a sleep specialist a few times; they said I was in the “gray area” for narcolepsy this last time, and diagnosed me with hypersomnia.

(I mean. Who knew narcolepsy caused insomnia!?) Then I stumbled across Ora. I sound like an ad already. LOL Seriously though, this stuff has helped. Not like, “kinda helped,” or “sort made me drowsy, but I still had trouble sleeping a lot of the time.

” I mean this stuff HELPED! I’m actually getting genuinely “Sleepy-tired,” when I take this. Maintaining a semi-normal sleep schedule (with help from sisterly morning phone chats). And because it doesn’t actually have things like GABA or melatonin IN it, I’m not getting weird side effects or morning grogginess (well, any additional morning grogginess, anyway, I’m still not a morning person).

Added GABA messes with me: “I’ll lay there trying to sleep while my brain just ramps up into super industrious, creative mode and I’m flooded with ideas for art projects. That’s nice, but not at bed time.

And while ashwagandha is great for helping me chill out, I do tend to have weirder, more vivid dreams when I take it too close to bed time. And chamomile tends to make me anxious and jittery. So, that’s where this stuff is really amazing: Since it just helps trigger your body’s own natural production of all those wonderful sleep hormones/brain chemicals with natural ingredients, I don’t end up jumping out of bed at 1am to write down amazing creative ideas, I JUST.

SLEEP. Like a normal person. For the first time since I was a small child. I haven’t slept like a normal human since before puberty. I went through my entire middle school/high school career running on 3-6 hours of sleep.

Survived my 20’s and 30’s on 0-6 hours sleep, with crash-and-burn stints of up to 12 hours once in a while. Now that I’ve hit a new decade and my health has really done a sharp left into debilitating territory, I can’t function like that.

This supplement. I mean. I could almost cry. I look forward to bed time every night for the first time in my life. For once, taking a sleep supplement doesn’t fill me with dread either, worrying; “Is this going to give me weird side effects? Keep me up? Upset my stomach?” Nope.

Nothing weird. Just sleep. Without this stuff, I can be so exhausted I can barely keep my eyes open, crawl into bed, and then lay there for 6 hours not sleeping. WITH this supplement, I actually sleeeeeep.

For so many good nights, for actual rest, for helping me sleep during one of the most stressful times in my life: Our house burned down in January, my family has been crammed into a too-small apartment all year, and then right after we put an offer in on a new house, my parents and grandmother all got covid and I, with my disabling chronic illnesses, had to step-up and play caretaker and business manager to nearly the whole family while also worrying I was going to lose them.

So, yeah, thank you for helping me rest so I can cope and not lose my actual mind! You folks are live savers. Also, thank you for packaging it in glass, not plastic. It says a lot about a company when they do things that positively impact the world around us.

The best, all natural product available on the market today that gives sustainable results. I’ve tried many, and was so happy to find this one at Ora. I use a lot of their products. And a variety and have gone back to reorder a plenty from supplements to protein and collagen powders.

I like it because you fall asleep as directed in 30 mins by taking 2 and stay asleep, or back to sleep if awoken. AND the best part no hang over feeling in the A. M! Use as directed, start with one for a day or so and if 2 are needed try the recommended dose.

Longtime insomniac, though recently that’s all changed when I started taking valerian and a few other herbs. I’ve found that a home-mixed tea works best, but that’s not always convenient. So, I’ve been looking for a capsule supplement that I could take when late-night tea drinking wasn’t an option.

I’ve tried a couple now and this one rates somewhere in the middle. To be fair, if I hadn’t already found a mix that works super well maybe I would have liked this better, but I guess I’ll never know.

I’ve found that sleep supplements are very dependent on the individual, what works for one may not work for another. This supplement seems pretty “clean” and has good ingredients, so if you have the ability to try it out I’d say go for it! It just may take a little trial and error to find the best fit.

I’ve tried many, if not all, of the Gaia products made for sleep & would recommend any & all of them. I’ve found rotation between products every few weeks is necessary for effectiveness. I also use the Gaia Valerian tincture & Young Living’s Valerian EO to my nightly glass of Natural Calm.

There is so MUCH we can do to help our sleep. from regular & consistent bedtimes to bedtime routines.

I buy the Gaia valerian root sound sleep from Whole Foods. They are pricey, I think about $35 per 60 capsule bottle, which is a month’s supply. I keep buying them because they have made such a difference in my sleep.

They help me get to sleep and sleep through the night.

This product is wonderful. I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep. I have tried traditional sleep meditation, melatonin, and even passion flower root. Nothing seemed to help. I drink a hot cup of this tea right before I go to bed, and I go right to sleep.

Sometimes I only sleep a couple hours, but at least I can get to sleep. If I wake up after a couple hours, I can always have another cup. It’s been a real lifesaver.

I’ll preface by saying that I have insomnia and chronic pain so getting me to sleep is very difficult. I picked up a box of the extra sleepytime tea in hopes it would help. The flavor was nice and obviously very easy to make, just steep the tea for the necessary time.

It did help me relax but did not make me sleepy, even after 2 cups. Alternatively, my husband can drink a cup and does feel a little sleepy. Overall I wouldn’t say this is a miracle sleep product but it’s nice and I would continue to purchase it.

Best sleep supplement by far – Natural or artificial, it’s had the best affect (for me) & all organic ingredients that are bodies know how to utilize for best overall performance which doesn’t stop at just a good night sleep.

Extremely good value and effective at promoting deep sleep and fighting wake ups or allowing going back to sleep with little effort during night. This should be effective for most people by itself. If you need a slight boost to it.

you can use it with L-Tryptophan tablets. For some who are suffering from ineffectiveness of their prescribed sleeping medication this will increase the sedation factors of prescribed Benzodiazepine or other OTC sleeping aids greatly too.

It makes a great first line of defense for most with insomnia and is the best combo of ingredients at the best value on Ebay at the time of this review.

I have a lot of trouble falling asleep, now that I have started taking Sleep Essentials I fall asleep almost immediately instead of tossing and turning. Sleep Essentials also helps to keep me asleep through out the night.
