20 Best Valve Cleaner Additive (2022 Updated)

I used this product to assist with the soak and scrub method of cleaning intake valves and valve chamber along with the splitter fins. Let it soak for about 30 and with picks, copper brush and the Zip Tie trick.

I got a really satisfactory result. Definitely not as spit shined as you can get with the media blast option but I just wanted my 85k 2014 GLI to breath better and she certainly does. The carbon buildup was significant and I definitely noticed a better responsiveness and more even torque curve because of doing the job.

First time using this product and was somewhat skeptical. After using I’m definitely a believer. I could hear and feel the difference almost immediately. Used it in my 2000 f150, 2000 Ranger and 2017 Mustang Gt.

Will absolutely use it again.

I normally dont believe in additives. I once tried the Techron fuel injector cleaner and couldnt tell much of a difference. Then I tried this. My car has almost 100k miles on it, and fuel efficiency started to slowly go down.

Since its a small 4 cylinder the idle was always a bit rough. But has gotten worse over time. I was ready change spark plugs and do a full tune up. But thought what do I have to lose. Purchased Liqui Moly and to my surprise my mpg went back to normal.

And the car runs a lot smoother again. Will use this product regularly from now on.

This cleaner works very well to clean the intake valves on my 2018 Hyundai Sonata with the 2. 4L GDI engine at 23,700 miles. The process did take about 20 minutes to consistently spray in short bursts.

I decided to spray into the throttle body instead of a vacuum hose to make sure the cleaner spreads evenly into the intake manifold while having another person hold the RPMs around 2200. I then followed the instructions to rev the engine 2-3 times, but not exceed 3500 RPMs, then let the engine soak for about 1 hour.

From my initial impressions, I can say that the throttle response is much better from accelerating at a standstill, as well as when rolling. In addition, after sitting for 1 hour, I took the Sonata for a 10 minute drive on the Highway and did notice some engine noise, like something is ‘loose’ or ‘clanking’ in the engine, likely the gunk buildup being pushed out of the engine, then after about 15 seconds or so of accelerating the engine to highway speed, the noise went away and drove like normal.

Soon after, I went ahead and filled up on gas and found that the estimated miles to empty has increased approximately 23 more miles, meaning a potential increase of 1 more MPG. Before running the cleaner, I noticed that the Sonata got around 23 MPG in the City and 32 on the Highway at 80 MPH.

I have yet to test the MPG on the Highway after performing the cleaner, however, the Sonata is now showing the MPG averaging 27 MPG in the city, which is about a 4 MPG increase with the cleaner. This would now exceed the estimated MPG at 25 MPG in the city with a bonus of 2 more MPG.

After running this cleaner for the first time in 20,000 miles, or I would likely perform this cleaner again every 10,000 miles. I would highly recommend this cleaner for any Direct and Non-Port Injection vehicle.

Different than using Seafoam or Techron to inject into intake system to clean intake valve deposits. It only smokes on initial start up after hot soak and not so much while driving. It does however cause a definite valve knock on acceleration until it is completely cleared out.

I’d recommend driving gently until the valve knock goes away, and then definitely drive 10-15 minutes at highway speeds. I’m still waiting to see if it helps MPG or smooths idle. Also, the can leaked a bit while spraying into intake port and it doesn’t spray much at a time.

I only was able to use about 1/3 of the can in spraying short bursts continuously for about 6-7 minutes.

Seems to work as designed. I used it on my 2012 GDI engine. After years of driving, my engine light came on with a misfire diagnostic code on one of the cylinders. I read that GDI engines tend to build up gunk behind the intake valves, which can cause misfire and, eventually, an engine light.

Looking for ways to fix this, I came across this product. I sprayed into my intake throttle valve at low RPM as directed, using short pulses. Immediately after, it seemed that the situation got worse – with a higher misfire count.

After driving around a bit, the engine sounded like it backfired a few times. After that, my engine light cleared and my misfire count dropped significantly. Even though this product seemed to worked as designed, the backfires caught me off guard.

In any case, I give this product high marks because it ultimately cleared my engine light and rough idles. I suspect that if I used it as maintenance, I might avoid the engine light and the backfires.

We’ll see.

I’ve been using Lucas oil for many years in multiple vehicles with both gas and Diesel engines. With Lucas Oil my engine runes nicer, improves my gas mileage and helps extend the life of my engine. I highly recommend this product.

For those of you that have engines that use Low Viscosity Oil make sure you use ONLY Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer.

Lucas Oil Complete Engine Treatment does what Seafoam does, only better. It is truly a Complete Engine Treatment. Prevents fuel from degrading while in storage. Old fuel can change chemically, becoming thicker and causing loads of problems in your engine.

Be proactive and add some Lucas Oil Complete Engine Treatment to the fuel, before long-term storage and then run the motor for 10 minutes or so to have it go through the injectors/carb passages. Once added, I like to slosh it around in the tank to mix it well, before running the motor.

In a car/truck, just drive it for 10 minutes. I use on older, higher mileage/hours engines to clean fuel lines, carburetor passages and throttle bodies, even fuel injectors. It removes harmful deposits on intake valves and piston heads.

It is recommended to use one bottle every 5,000 miles (up to 21 gallon tank), for best results. Bring the bottle with you to the gas station when you need to refill, then add before filling up. Or, for smaller engines, 1oz.

Lucas 16 oz Complete Engine Treatment multi-system cleaner & lubricant for gasoline and diesel engines is supposed to clean, lubricate, the entire fuel system and internal engine parts. I prefer fuel additives with (PEA) before taking an emission test for cleaning the fuel injectors and catalytic converter, however my fuel gauge has been acting erratic so I tried Locus complete engine treatment (without PEA) can’t find the active ingredients beside showing no alcohol.

This Lucas additive cleans and lubricates the entire fuel system so no more slow rising or stuck fuel gauge and to me that’s 5 star product for not replacing the tank’s internal fuel sender unit. I’m not sure about the other claims.

I can’t tell the difference in performance or if it does stabilize fuel but it did fix my fuel gauge. Direction says to add 1 ounce per gallon of fuel. 1 ounce per quart of oil. I suggest adding to an almost empty fuel tank first before filling tank for better mixture.

The product is great, does a very good job of cleaning the fuel system! I would also like to say that it is really cool how A LOT of the reviews on this product are from women! I think it’s a very good thing that so many more women are learning how to do their own car maintenance for many different reasons, including so they won’t get ripped off at some of the shadier mechanic shops! Good for you ladies! Last, did anybody else happen to notice the incredibly high percentage of the names in the list of commenters that have a letter “Y” in their name?!! Thought I would give this a go. Read over 300 reviews, 98 % positive. Ex mechanic, I’m a bit of a sceptic regarding additives. Have used another well known brand with good results. In all honesty, Lucas wins hands down.

I own a 2019 Indian Chief Darkhorse motorcycle with 23,000 miles. I have been predominantly buying high test fuel at work. After several weeks, I had very difficult cold starting and a severe loss of power.

I tried another fuel injector cleaner. While it did a good job , I was still having some difficulties starting the bike. I tried this cleaner because it cleaned the entire fuel system-tank, pump, cylinder and fuel injectors.

The ethanol in the gas was the cause of all my problems. I have now switched to ethanol free gas to prevent future problems. My only caution on this problem is do not get on on your vehicle’s paint or your hands.

This product saved me a $125 repair bill. In review, a quote from my mechanic -AVOID ETHANOL ADDED FUEL AS IT WILL CLOG UP A MOTORCYCLE ENGINE!.

I decided to give it a shot because I kept seeing it used on the YouTube channel vicegrip garage. I’ve tried almost everything else with little to no results. I purchased it to use in my 08 civic lx because it has had no “go” lately.

I added it as directed. The car is at half a tank now and not only is it bringing the pep back to my car but it also improved my fuel mileage. My car was getting 30mpg consistently. With this it has went up to 47mpg and that was going through mountain passes with constant up and down shifting and high rpm climbs.

I’ve been working on cars for 20 years now. For the past 16 years I’ve worked as at home and road side mechanic on the side. I usually Walnut blast valves but it’s costly and time consuming to customers.

I saw this product in store and decided to give it a try. If this stuff works I can charge my customers a tenth of the cost of walnut blasting. Next day a 2020 2. 4 l gdi Kia optima with 41,105 miles came in.

Just so you know valves in gdi engines should be cleaned every 20 to 40 thousands Miles. The women wanted me to check her valves to make sure they haven’t carboned over that much yet. The womens son told her to do this.

She had no clue this was a issue with gdi engine. I pull an injector and plug and use my scope to inspect engine. It was in bad shape there was a ton of carbon and 4 valves where almost carboned shut.

I started car and let it get to operating temperature I inserted hose started car set rpms at 2,250 to 2,500 and began. With in 2 minutes the rpms jumped to 3700. For those of you who don’t know when there is a jump in rpms that means carbon and other junk is being cleaned out.

After 6 minutes rpms when back down and 7 minutes later can was empty. After I was done I let car heat soak for 2 hours and took it for a spin. I put car in low gear and drove for a few miles with rpms around 4 grand.

This will not hurt the transmission or engine. This can be done as long as your actually driving. This helps remove more carbon build up and eliminate anything in the system. After I did that I went on a highway and heavily accelerated to help eliminate even more.

I go back to my house and use my scope again to see how this product worked. To my surprise it seem like 25% of the carbon was cleaned out. Most important the Valve aren’t almost carboned shut. These products do work if done right.

Realize this your not going to get it spot less. On average your only clean 5 to 30 percentage of carbon depending on how dirty it is. Follow the instructions, for best results make sure car is at running temp before doing it.

When your done the long it heat soaks the better the cleaning.

This STP product definitely works the way it’s supposed to. Gained roughly 4 miles per gallon after using in my 2012 F150. IMPORTANT NOTE: be very careful when removing the tube after use! The tiny metal guard WILL fall off! In my case it fell into the throttle body, which I did not realize had happened.

Fortunately the butterfly in the throttle body caught the hose guard so it did not go into the valves. The cleaner works as advertised, I highly recommend it. Just be mindful of the hose guard at all times!.

I was recommened this product after I had some bad gas sit in my tank for a few months. I didnt learn about the gas being bad until nearly six months of is sitting in my tank while out of state. MY car died on me while driving it in town and nearly all the service shops were closed.

I found one that could not get my car in to fix it(too busy) but they suggested I run a bottle of this stuff through it and top off with fresh gas. I put a bottle in, added about 6 gallons of fresh premium fuel and took it to AutoZone to clear the codes temporarily.

The engine codes stayed away and I drove the car from AZ to VA(2280mi) 2 days later. That is enough for me to say this stuff helped tremendously.

I never bought this stuff, assuming it wasn’t effective. After reading some compelling data online I decided to give it a try. After 500 miles of use I’ve picked up one more mpg, which is enough to pay for itself if you’re buying in bulk.

I used to hear my lifters at cold start, but since using this product my lifters are silent so it must be working as advertised to lubricants the top end. But the gallon size to make it cost effective, but you will need this bottle to measure out a tanks worth and to pour it easily into the tank at fill up.

Package came in out, exactly as advertised with great price.

Good brand to use. Don’t know just how well it works, but maybe it will get me longer engine life.

Das Fahrzeug. Bj 2002 fhlt sich nur freier und durchzugsstrker an. Ich muss weniger Gas geben als zuvor. Ich fand die Verdnnung bis zu einem 70 Liter Tank, die Liqui Moly angibt in meinem Problemfall aber zur dnn und habe das Produkt in den halb vollen Tank gegeben, also 1 Dose auf 25 Liter Kraftstoff und dann den Tank leer gefahren, bis die Lampe anging.

Ich bin sehr zufrieden und werde es immer wieder kaufen. Sicher bietet Shell und BP die gleichen Produkte an die aber wesentlich teurer sind als das Liqui Moly. Ich schtte alles 2 Monate das Mittel in den Tank.

Ich kann nur noch mal sagen ein tolles Produkt.

I’ve got a used Zero turn mower using the Hydrogear ZT-3200 transmissions (they hold ~ 2 qts of motor oil), it was obvious the 400 hour maintenance wasn’t done as the transmission oil was filthy when I changed the oil (Mobil 1 15w/50) and filter at 600 hours.

The response was a little better but it still pulled to the right and the controls were “stiff” and it just kept getting worse throughout the summer. After sitting all winter it pulled to the right so severely it was dangerous but this symptom lead me to believe that if I could get it cleaned out it could work correctly again.

I emailed Sea Foam Tech Support here’s their reply: “I’d use Sea Foam Motor Treatment. Since you’re using it in a transmission, you can go with a higher dosage than what’s listed on the can for oil applications.

Add 4-6 oz of Sea Foam to your 2 quart system (that’s 2-3 oz per quart of oil). That will do a good job cleaning internal buildup and unblocking ports. The Sea Foam is safe to leave in there for the life of the oil.

If you decide to use it as a pre-flush cleaner, just make sure you run the mower long enough to let the Sea Foam work (a few hours of use would be fine). ” I drained out enough oil so I could add 6 oz to the transmission that was acting up and 2 oz to the other side, ran it for 10 hours and was amazed at the results.

It doesn’t pull hard to the right anymore, the forward and reverse forces are ~balanced, and the controls aren’t near as stiff as before. At this point I changed the oil and filter adding Sea Foam Motor Treatment 6 oz in right side and 2 oz in the left again.

I will change the oil and filter at the end of season and add Sea Foam as on going maintenance. Thank You, I’m so happy I don’t have to crack the transmission case open!.

I first learned of Sea Foam back in 2004 while living in Arkansas. I had purchased an older pontoon with a Mariner motor. The previous owner said he ran a little heavy on the 2 stoke oil when mixing with gas.

too much oil can be just as bad as not enough. Motor would run fine, once started. sometimes times getting it started was not easy. A friend suggested I purchase some Yamaha Ring Free, may cure some problems.

I did some searches and found some discussions on Yamaha Ring Free and Sea Foam. Sea Foam was readily available at several retail stores and considerably less than the Yamaha product. I gave Sea Foam a try, added two bottles to a fresh 6 gallon tank, added oil and 5.

8 gallons of gas. Pulled the 2 spark plugs, tilled engine up added 1-2 oz oof Sea Foam to each cylinder then manually rotated engine. Let set for 15 minutes, but plugs back in and headed off to the river.

Did not take long to get started, but when it did. OMG the smoke. Drove up river for 45 minutes to an hour to a favorite cove/swim area. Spent most the day hanging with friends, at the end of the day the engine started quicker than ever since owning the boat.

I performed the same treatment just before our next outing, not as much smoke, but after the two treatments to engine would barley begin to rotate before starting, even cold. I was sold right there on the product and have been spreading the word ever since.

All of my family now uses Sea Foam for their vehicles and lawn equipment.

I have been using Seafoam Motor Treatment for many years now. I add it to my gas tank on every third fill of my truck. One of the main reasons I use it is I believe that it helps keep my injectors, throttle body and other fuel system parts clean and free from build up.

When I had my company that had a number of trucks and vehicles for jobsite construction, doing bids and such. i It seemed like they were always needing to be serviced for running rough due to build up on the injectors and throttle body.

The price of having the fuel systems cleaned more than on a normal periodic basis for a number of vehicles gets pricey pretty quickly. I decided to try and add a can of Seafoam to the gas tanks of all of the vehicles once they had been serviced to start off with a clean fuel system.

I was amazed at the results. Once we started to put a can of Seafoam into the gas tank on every third fill up the results were obvious to me. After adding seafoam to all of the vehicles on a regular basis.

I did not have a problem any longer with the vehicles running rough due to build up in their fuel systems any longer. The money I saved money in many ways by using Seafoam. By not having to take the vehicles off of the road while being repaired.

Plus not having to replace the vehicle while it was being repaired. Not having the costly repair bills. Also having a vehicle that is running properly is much more gas efficient. So I would say in my opinion seafoam is definitely worth the cost and in my experience more than pays for itself.

I checked reviews and the web on how to clean some really fouled pistons. Carb cleaner was recommended. I then checked ratings and reviews on carb cleaners. I bought a couple of the better rated ones and then a can of this Valvoline heavy duty carb and throttle body cleaner.

I sprayed different pistons (they are out of the engine) with different cleaners. I sprayed directly onto the piston top and then laid a paper towel over the tops and resprayed to really let it soak.

BY FAR, the Valvoline stuff was heads and shoulders over the others. In minutes, I could rub a scotch brite pad over the piston and the 40k miles of burned oil was GONE. I’m REALLY FLOORED by how well it came out!.

I got a free lawn mower with a popular Honda engine. The OEM carb is different from the inexpensive replacements and very difficult to find at a reasonable price. I tried one off my pressure washer, it worked, but the choke linkage is very different.

Took apart OEM carb. A few sprays thru the holes and she starts up in 3 pulls cold on an initial fill, 1 pull hot. Great stuff, saved at least $100. From now on I will use seafoam and ethanol free gas, that keeps carbs clean.

I have plenty left to clean my throttle bodies.

Absolutely amazing product. I used it in my 2001 Vespa and it’s completely transformed it’s performance. It accelerates better, gets to top speed faster and also improved top speed too. Starts better and better tick over too.

Bought a motorcycle that had been stored with the fuel left in, in past experience this requires a carb strip down and full clean of the fuel sytem , ive used seafoam and other products in the past but always ended up with a carb rebuild , read a few reviews on this and thought reasonable price i will try it (anything before the carb rebuild again) i was shocked it is not instant you have ride and let it flow through your system but it does work , no plug fouling as with more agressive cleaners like seafoam , the motors running smooth after about 20 miles of letting it do its stuff tank holds about 15 liters so i put about a 1/4 of moly in as it says enough for 70 liters in one can, so lots left and the tanks still got loads treated fuel left in , Wasn’t expecting much but got a pleasant suprise,, well done Liqui Moly awesome product.
