20 Best Valve Seal Additive (2022 Updated)

This stuff works for some oil leaks. I was losing around a quart of oil per month from my 1998 CRV with no visible puddling or smoke out the tail pipe. A quart of this reduced the oil loss to around a 1/4 quart per month.

My brother’s car was losing around 3 quarts per week and this stuff did not help his car. Update:After a few months oil consumption started to go up at a faster rate again. Still losing around 1/2 QT per month but still not as bad as it was at around a full QT before.

If I stopped using it would probably be more than a QT loss per month by now. I’ve been using this with Mobile 1 5W-30 high mileage formula. The high mileage formula reduces oil consumption a little bit on its own since I’ve used regular Mobile 1 and it would go go through oil noticeably faster.

Even though the high mileage formula is sold as the same weight is actually has a bit higher viscocity to compensate for greater tolerances due to engine wear.

I have a Tahoe with 300,000 miles that leaks about 1. 5 quarts of oil every 5,000 miles. I tried this and will continue to use it. It still leaks a little bit, but now is only about. 5 quarts every 5000 miles.

For me that is great. I am trying to keep the old dog running as long as possible and this will help.

I am a small shop owner and “can I get a quick oil change?” request does not make one money but if I sell and add one of these to about all of the oil changes, (use regular Lucas if car is not leaking) since you paying about $6.

25 @ qt. and resells for $12. 99+-, then I am making some extra cash. Not only that, Lucas is a product that sells itself anyways. I do carry almost the complete Lucas line. I use it on my personal vehicles because I know is a great product and to show my customers that one cannot go wrong with Lucas Cesar.

Used it on my ’08 Mini Cooper S (R56) after knowing my car leaks about a cup of oil every 2 weeks, and it has since started blowing white smoke after long idle (which should be signs of a failing cooling system, despite not losing any coolant from the reservoir).

After coming to terms I would probably have to spend over a grand just to figure out the underlying problem, I decided to toss some of this in the engine. After my car did NOT blow up in the next 100 miles, I figured it wasn’t too bad, and drove my car like I normally do.

As it turns out, it stopped blowing smoke after long idles and although it does still leak, I found myself only having to add oil every month or so now. So I can’t recommend it as a total problem solver, but after my results, I certainly can’t rule it out either.

Gave new life to my 2004 Chevy Avalanche truck that I have 237,000 miles on and some slight anti-freeze was noted in the oil, discolored substance on oil cap as well as a smell. I reviewed this product and it worked as described!! I bought two bottles per one reviewers note.

I was half way till oil needed changed. One I added immediately in the truck oil. Drove till I changed the oil and at the new oil change I added this product again. Checked it often and the product worked!! I have had multiple oil changes since and I just add one bottle each time I change the oil.

Oil cap is clean and no smell. Gave new life to my truck that I drive daily.

Edit — After about 1 year, Bar’s Leaks stopped working. The gaskets on my Oil Pump and Valve cover had completely worn out. Cost a couple hundred dollars to replace, but the oil leak is gone. That said, getting 1 year of driving out of a bottle of this stuff still leaves me very impressed.

I’d use Bar’s Leaks more as a way to get you to a spot where you can get your car fixed instead of an end-all solution personally. 5 stars for 1 year of stopping an oil leak at the cost of $7. Original Review I can’t believe this worked.

I had one of those “everything went wrong” moments with my 2001 Camry. For a few days in a row I noticed a burning smell when I got out out of my car. Third day I noticed it, checked the oil level – nearly empty.

I had changed the oil a couple of weeks prior so this was a bad, bad leak. Drove to a mechanic who only gave bad news. They said they saw multiple leaks on it, and that it’d be somewhere between $1500-2000 to fix.

Took it to a second mechanic who said the same thing. On the way to the second mechanic, the check engine light flipped on, the burning smell was worse than ever, a brake light burnt out, and I was about ready to bite the bullet for the repairs.

On a whim I bought a bottle of this stuff. For 8 bucks what the heck, why not. My engine had lost enough oil in a couple of days to add the full bottle of the engine repair. It said to drive it for 100 miles for best results so I visited a friend that evening 200 miles away (probably not my smartest moment since I was having all the car troubles but whatever).

I pulled in and looked under the car – no dripping. Spent the night and the next morning checked under the car. There was a puddle maybe the size of 4 or 5 drops of oil. Since driving home from the friends (1 month ago), the oil hasn’t leaked a bit.

Took it to another mechanic who said everything seemed to be looking great. I’ll check the oil once a week for awhile then probably longer intervals, but it seems like this stuff worked. Even if I have to add a bottle of it every so often, it’s way cheaper than the quotes I received were.

I was (and still am) completely dumbfounded.

Great price, and good results Always skeptical about products like this. my 04′ LeSabre knocks and thumps, and burns a lot of oil. I’ve tried many products to try to help and none have worked. Until I found this.

I added this product to my manual shift 2. 5i Impreza along with a quart of oil on a Saturday. The following Friday, my oil light flickered once or twice while climbing a hill and the engine started losing power.

Once I crested the hill, the motor died with a clunking sound and I coasted the corner store at he bottom. Towed car to the service station where it was pronounced dead on arrival. Once I returned home I noticed a lake of oil on my driveway where I parked the car overnight.

Coincidence? I don’t know. I know the car had issues but I hesitate to recommend the product.

So far so good. Reduced my oil consumption by half with first usage. Usually my oil light on my 03 BMW 525i comes on at 250 miles. (Yes, 250 miles per quart. ) I’ve had all the leaks fixed and see no wet oil anywhere.

I read about this Rislone through the reviews here on the Walmart site and decided to try it. I’m very impressed. The first bottle reduced my oil consumption to 500 miles per quart. At the next oil change I will add more and see if this becomes a nice trend!! Excellent product.

Aged engine would not start. Lacked compression. Friend suggested. Started first time… and 1000 times since. Bought up several spare bottles.

bought it as a fix for my lawnmower which has a slipping hydrostatic drive. for now I mixed it with existing oil and has made a big difference so hope to realy fix things soon with new oil and Lucas booster.

Excellent quality product. It stopped a small leak in the hydraulic steering on a Kubota compact tractor. Highly recommend.

It slowed the leak, I’m OCD, but i was ok. But after I put 300 continuous miles on it, it seems to have disappeared completely. So, when you read the multiple reviews telling you to put miles on it. LISTEN! I would definitely try this with a fresh Mobil1 Oil change and filter and then add Lucas Oil Stop Leak before busting a “grand” for god knows whatever repair they tell you that you will need.

In this case it was a 17 year mint suburban, not a race car. Worth it!.

I thought the car was going to start acting funny but nope! Started up as normal and actually performed a little better than usual. I have a small oil leak on one of the hoses. It has definitely slowed.

and I only put around 65% of the solution in there. I’m sure it will only get better once I add the rest. Great stuff here. However, it’s not a permanent solution. Try to get the car fixed or traded out within 1-3 months unless you’ll have to keep adding.

I have a collectible vehicle that was leaking oil from the rear main seal. It is a 1978 Mustang with a 302 engine. Before considering the expense and logistics of having the engine resealed, I decided to give a try to this product for the first time ever.

I added the entire contents during the oil and filter change. Quite surprisingly, it´s been 3 days and not a single drop of oil has appeared on the floor. I am still skeptical but will definitely keep monitoring for leaks.

So added a little more than a quart of Lucas stop oil leak and no oil is leaking. Car has 185000 miles and many times stuck in traffic but the oils stays steady and no drops below when parked. It has been more than a month now.

The whole idea is thicker oil. Lucas thickens any oil and it did not affect performance. The next oil will be 20-50 plus Lucas to guarantee iron clad cure ! Again it all depends where the car is. South Florida heat makes the oil thinner compared to, say Chicago in the winter.

Also the engine runs quieter. Having said all that I still recommend frequent checking of the oil dip stick until you assert that all is fine. So far I am very happy with the Lucas.

I have a 2008 cheavy impala with a leaky oil pan gasket. I can see the drips are forming at the pan bottom but not enough to find any oil drops yet. The car has been using synthetic oil and has 171k miles.

On my last oil change, I tried the stop leak using about 80% of a bottle. 1200 miles later, I checked and pan bottom it is just as wet as before. The Lucas didn’t made any change to the size of hanging drips.

I read other review that synthetic oil is not effective with lucas. I bought the high-mile regular oil and will try again. The way it looks, I need to replace the gasket which will be a major diy repair.

Being a motor builder, I love this stuff. Since it has been harder to get STP and i do believe that this is the same stuff? It fixes most all seals. I use it in power steering pumps, even stops leaks in rack and pinion units.

The only thing it doesn’t seem to work is in oil pressure sending units.

I’m staggered. I’ve got an old car (15+ years old) which has had a small leak for a while now. Taking it into service and MOT in different places, they’d comment on it, but could never find it. Recently it started getting worse and the leak would cause smoke.

I tried this thinking ‘for the price of a coffee and a sandwich, why not give it a try?’. And it worked! No more smoking and I don’t find any more oil where I park. I can definately say this product helped me.

Instantly stopped top end oil leaks from both banks of an Audi V8, which were weaping onto hot exhaust manifolds and smoking. Sufficient to pass an MOT the next day. Leaks coming back slowly after a few weeks and 2x 650 mile journeys, but still a little better than before.

I purchase this product due to my Mercedes v6 Vito having a well known and significant oil cooler leak from two small oil seals which would cost £3000 or 12 hours labour to remove and replace due to the location of the oil cooler underneath a lot of hardware.

So it was worth a try and use this product to swell up the two seals and remove the oil leek. After 3 weeks I have a tiny insignificant drop of oil where as before it was a MOT failure. Great product, saved me a fortune in time and money.

This one worked to stop small engine oil leak. Tried two other brands but the oil leak was still visible. Best one out of them all.

This product is expensive and didn’t really stop my leak. Spend a little more and get your leak properly fixed by a mechanic.

Excellent product

I got this in the hopes of silencing the ticking that my lifters were making in my 2006 Tahoe. I put it in and didn’t notice a dramatic change right away, but a few hundred miles further it seems to have done the trick.

Before putting it in, I would get the lifters to start ticking whenever I’d idle for more than about a minute. Last night, we sat in line for gas at Costco for a million years and I didn’t hear the lifters at all.

Seems to have really helped.

Bought this to reduce Tappet noise. Tried it but it didnt work. Sound still remains. It could be physical issue with engine so cannot comment completely on the capability of this product. Unfortunately I had to import this from US to Malaysia which cost a lot.

Hoped to save money without a rebuild but looks like a rebuild is needed.

I”ve used Rislone for several years now. Just turned 250,000 miles on my everyday work vehicle. Wouldn’t hesitate to jump in it tomorrow and head to California. Didn’t discover this product until that vehicle had a little over 100,000 miles.

Eliminated all knocks and pings immediately. Almost entirely eliminated oil consumption. Highly recommend this product. I add it to all my vehicles after every oil change now.

2 300ml Cans of this product were added to the oil on a Chrysler Grand Voyager 2. 5 CRD, the rear crankshaft Oil Seal was leaking quite heavily. After about 250 miles the leak has reduced to a minor drip and the underside of the engine is dry.

Further reduction is very likely given extra time and mileage. I am believer in Ceratec Liqui Moly products and use many (Diesel Purge etc) from their range of chemical solutions, with great and lasting effect.

I will admit that not all oil leaks will or can be cured by the use of this product but that said, it has certainly worked for me and I intend to have further supplies on stock.

Didn’t sort my problem out maybe something more serious. Usually liqui moly products are good but this one not as magical as it sounds. But for some people it could do the job so can’t fault it

My Hyundai 2003 Santa Fe leaks engine oil last 5 years. Since I put this product stopped oil leaking.

Had a bad oil leak on a 2004 car and didn’t want to pay for taking engine out to replace seal. After an oil change usually had to add 1 or 2 quarts around 2,000 miles. Put Bar’s in drove for 200 miles and have not seen any sign of the leak.

Became the new owner of an ALPINA B7 with the N63 motor. Luckly I got the car early enough to reverse the neglect from prior owners. Car has 100k when I got it and would smoke lightly if idle for to long.

I was running 5w30 Castrol and would be down half a quart after driving 300 miles. Switched to Liquid Moly 5w40 and added a can and a half of Oil Saver then drove the same trip 300 miles and when I returned home oil level was still at full and by the time I was about half way through the trip the light smoke I would get from idle disappeared.

Now I’ve been driving it on short runs and no smoke has been seen so far when prior if I took it on quick runs that don’t allow the engine to get warm I’d see smoke at start up after stopping for a short drive.

Keep in mind I think if you get to the point where your smoking quite a bit and your valve seals are to far gone this will probably only reduce but not completely stop the smoke. I am prepared to get the seals done when they’re really beyond saving but for now this has helped along with changing to Liquid Moly molygen vs Castrol I was using prior.

From now on I’m sticking to Liquid Moly for my oil on the B7.

most likely the main seal. Mechanic said huge job to fix just use the Lucas product however when I looked on the shelf there were others that bragged about stopping a leak (the Lucas stabilizer does not mention stopping leaks!) so I tried two different ones to no avail.

Eventually I used almost 2 bottles (20% mix) and waited sceptically. Slowly the oil loss was less and less. It took a few months for me to remove the drip tray. What great stuff! Now use in all of my 3 old cars every oil change.

They run quieter and smoother too. Put some in my noisy air compressor and wow what difference!.

So I tried the product. It took a few weeks, maybe even a month or 2 before the knock was GONE; but there was a noticeable change in just a few days. Now I put a bottle in with every oil change. For a Reason: IT WORKS!.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleMy trans felt like it had a hard time going into some gears, so Google and some research guided me to this snake oil. The trans in question has about 180,000 and I thought this product would help ease the shift.

I put a bottle through the trans dip stick, following the directions and making sure not to overfill. Cycling the gears, then a light test drive and nothing happened, for about a km. Instead of an easy shift what I ended up with was a whole pile of neutrals.

Truck no move now. Ok, I’ll give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the Trans fluid was just too far gone and needed to be changed. So I picked up a trans pan gasket/filter and a pile of new transf fluid and go to work changing the oil.

Now the oil did need changing, was well used and I was assuming this doesn’t work so well with worn oil. Some reviews suggest that it doesn’t. Fast forward a week later (maybe 10km on now oil), fresh ATF oil and an opportunity.

The bottle says it can help blah, blah blah. I used another bottle, also following directions and monitoring the fill level. New oil and should be no issues. Cycled the gears a bunch of times, and took for a light test drive.

Lone behold, 5 neutrals after about few hundred yards. Can’t tell you what the issue is, but my two pennies are that you should avoid this stuff and look elsewhere for a trans additive. I think SeaFoam has one that would work better.

Easy to pour in with synthetic or conventional engine oil, works great for breaking in rebuilt engines with flat tappet cam shafts. I use it every oil change because oil does not have the zinc additive for these older engines anymore and protection for cam and lifter seating and performance has gone down without it.

Do not use on vehicles with Catalytic converters unless just breaking in the engine.

It’s supposed to be good stuff. Ran it about 500 miles with non-detergent oil. Too bad Autozone doesn’t have break in oil. Or non-detergent. So I had to make several stops. But it seems to work. Motor runs good.

I’m on regular oil now.

I bought this to supplement my engine oil for my flat-tappet cam install. I’ve bought this stuff three times since. My cam is still living. Appears to be doing what it supposed to.

Since I fully deleted AFM in my 2014 Silverado and changed the lifters and plugged the towers under the valley cover I have been running 1 qt of this stuff with each oil change. Also stepped up my oil weight to 5w-30 full synthetic.

Prior to the AFM delete my engine was consuming around 2-3 qts per 5000 miles. Seems my engine family is blessed with bad rings. After AFM delete it was still consuming the same so I eliminated the chance of a leaky head gasket, and the oil pan gasket is clean.

until I ran this a couple times. The 3rd full oil change after delete has held its oil level very well. I haven’t had to add any oil yet and I’m almost to the next oil change! The only thing I changed was adding the stabilizer.

I consider that an accomplishment.

I use this on every oil change for our cars. A thousand years ago in the 90s they had a display at O’reilly’s of oil and the other side oil with Lucas in it. The 5 gears were cranked and through the pleaxi glass you could see the oil travelling to the top besides feel the resistance of it.

The Lucas side lubricated and helped the oil to the top with zero resistance cranking the regular oil sid you had great resistance at the beginning and slight once you got it going but oil didn’t make it fully to the top.

I started using it then in the 80s Jag I got from grandma when she passed. When I sold it 3 years ago it drove out still smooth as silk.

After switching to synthetic oil I got a feel for how the oil worked within my engine. It is a 2001 Toyota Sienna. The oil felt “slicker” and felt better lubricated. After purchasing Valvoline synthetic oil with the stabilizer the overall feel of the engine performance was slightly “stabilized”.

It felt like it could run slightly harder and stronger. Then on my last oil change I used Pennzoil synthetic with the stabilizer again. Using a not so serious attitude I haven’t noticed anything different or strange.

Some of the positive drivability aspects appear again. There’s a lot of knowledgeable people that seem to say using a heavier weight oil would produce similar results. Well, I am just having some fun and experimenting with a quart of stabilizer to see what happens.

I’m going on faith and a bit of ignorance when it comes to the actual characteristics of engine oil, from regular to synthetics, with or without stabilizers. So far nothing seems to be of worry. That’s why some become experts in any field to gain greater understanding of any topics.

But, here I am just tryin a few things for entertainment and joy. Overall a pleasant experience. There are some negative experiences with said stabilizer. I’m not worried. Thanks for the memories Lucas Oil.

YES ITS WORKING!!! My bmw 750i F01 N63 engine was smoking really bad, now the smoke is almost gone after 200 miles, probably its going to be better, but for now i am really happy. Thank you Liqui Moly!.

This is my second bottle, first one went in my old wagon that had a pretty good leak, it stopped it. This bottle is for the wifes car, has a small leak, I’m sure it will work.

I have been using this product for many years and am very pleased with it.

I’ve had my rear and front main seal’s leaking for well over a year. I have tried countless stop leak additives but with no success. I was watching a video on u tube and the guy was raving about AT205 so I decided to give it a try.

I found it on summit and ordered some. the great people at summit wasted no time getting it shipped out, I think it was even shipped out the very same day I ordered it. it arrived exactly when they said it would.

I put one bottle in my oil and drove it around for 500 miles. at around 200 miles I stopped seeing oil leaks under my car. after the 500 mile mark I got under the car and wiped all the old oil away and its been cleane ever since.

in my opinion this product is a miracle product. and I am now a repeat customer at summit.

I had been refilling the power steering on my 2011 Toyota Avalon every 6000 miles and after seeing a couple of YouTube videos i decided to give this a try. I pressure washed the undercarriage and found the leak was coming from the lines that connect to the steering rack.

I poured 1 oz of this AT 205 and cycled my steering wheel from end to end a couple of times. I have not replaced the power steering fluid but i swear this thing worked like magic. Not only did it fix the leak, it also decreased the effort to turn the steering wheel making it feel as if it was electric power steering.

I also poured 5 oz in the engine, sprayed all the belts, CV joint boots, motor mounts, and all the rubber components I could see for preventative maintenance. On another note, my friend was looking to replace an old overstretched drive belt on her sewing machine.

I took the belt out, soaked it in a glass container, reinstalled it and now’s nice and tight. No new belt needed.
