20 Best Vcr Dvd Combo (2022 Updated)

I bought this to replace one that had stopped working. It arrived in a timely fashion and was packed very well! I connected to my system and it performed perfectly. I am very pleased with it.

I own two of these machines, have for YRS. Pd 49.95.each. My first vhs player cost me 269 at Lowe’s when it was smaller on Ragu Dr. My how prices have changed

What is up with this!?! I bought one in 2011 for $79. The vhs part went out now. I would not pay this for refurbished. I’d buy a brand new one but not for $250!! What a rip off.

Video equipment like this is more & more difficult to find, and finding dealer’s stock is virtually impossible. Our machine was manufactured in 2009 and is so pristine that you must reasonably ask yourself if it was ever used at all.

It is externally flawless and as clean and as dust free as new inside. Having said this, it functions as such and we could not be more pleased. We had hoped to find something functional at best, but this far exceeds our expectations that I felt I had to leave some feedback and give credit where credit is due.

We needed to bring in the expertise of a friend with strong technical background to couple it onto our widescreen smart TV, but it is all and more than what we had hoped for. What a great find. and isn’t that what ebay is for? Another satisfied customer! Thank you.

A working VHS player was needed to continue playing a large inventory of VHS tapes. It was not easy finding a working VHS player. I found the price for this used Sony was excellent, since it also played DVD’s, an unexpected bonus.

In addition, it was possible to contact Sony online and download an operating document for this specific unit. When it arrived well packaged and in excellent condition I was able to use the operating document to attach the unit to a new Smart TV and found that a separately ordered remote and the unit worked perfectly.

The remote was previously rated separately. I can now get rid of a very old TV with built-in VHS player. Perfect.

Everything is great with my “new” used DVD/VCR. The only odd thing was it still had it’s “rack mounts” attached to the sides, which when I removed left a hole in the side of the unit. I put a piece of tape on it to cover the hole, but other than that, I’m very happy, and it’s works perfectly with the DVD and VHS.

It should switch source when a dvd is loaded but it requires 3 controllers to operate the system. That’s with an anynet samsung tv and the combo unit. It required a manual setup even though it is supposed to be anynet compliant I wonder if the power supply has 10 volt capacitors in a 14 volt circuit like the samsung tv that died 2 weeks after the warranty was up.

Shame on me for sticking with Samsung The net video on a 1080p set reminds me of a 1950’s rca victor console, except it’s color.

Had no idea VCRs from the 2000s were so much quieter than VCRs from the ’80s. Great vintage product in great condition! I bought this to convert old VHS home videos from the ’80s and ’90s to digital computer files.

Worked great with no problems.

I found this model at my local Ditto’s Thrift Store for $4. It even had the Remote. The probable reason why it was only $4 was because they claimed the DVD player didn’t work. I bought it anyway because I like messing with combo units.

I brought it home, hooked it up, and popped a DVD in the unit. It picked up the disc, but it wouldn’t play. I noticed when I ejected the disc, the tray was very dusty. I then proceeded to open up the unit and remove the DVD drive to clean.

I first brushed off the loose dust with a saucing brush ( it’s used to apply sauces on meat products ) and used a can of compressed air to get rid of the more stuck on dust. After that, I got a bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol and a box of q-tips.

I dipped a q-tip in the alcohol and gently brushed the surface of the optical laser. Finally, I put the unit back together. The DVD player worked flawlessly after that! I was very happy. I saved a bunch of money.

VCR’s are hard to find these days. everyone threw them away when DVD’s came out. It’s a bit confusing but a VCR takes VHS tapes which were discontinued long ago. This one is a JVC brand which was a leader in VCR machines back in the day.

If you have a lot of VHS tapes you may want to watch someday keep you VCR. You can have VHS tapes transferred to DVD but it’s expensive.

Great DVD / VHS player so far! The only snag we hit was not having a remote (because there’s no way to advance through the DVD pages without one, so if you have something like a tv show, you’d only be able to watch the first episode).

It wasn’t hard to set up a universal remote, just make sure you have one handy. Otherwise, no complaints!.

Old player was removed. Connected the new one and it works perfectly. Good clarity on the picture.

I had the exact same model and had been busily transferring my old videotapes to DVDs. I didn’t always “finalize” a DVD right away because of my complicated system for organizing the tapes, and it occurred to me that if the machine broke and I had not “finalized” my DVDs, I wouldn’t be able to watch them on any other machine.

I’d be in big trouble. Then it happened; the machine went crazy and stopped recording and then it stopped finalizing the old DVDs I had already done. So I had to find the same model. The replacement that I bought on Ebay actually performs slightly better than the first one I owned.

(The first one was more sensitive and wouldn’t always play my old tapes well. ) Now I’m happily continuing my project. I’ve never used a different machine, but this model does a good, perhaps very good, job of transferring videotape to DVD, or the opposite.

New, it was around $200-250 new. I’ve seen some listed for much more money — not sure it would be worth paying a lot more than they were worth new, but I’m quite happy with the quality and the ease of using it.

There was a bit of a learning curve, but it really is pretty easy to use and does a serviceable job. Yes, the first one broke down, but I think the assumption is that none of these type machines last for more than maybe 2 or 3 years of use, and I was using it heavily for a while.

I’ve had two of these since 2008 or 2009. I’ve recorded so many tv shows for all of these years that I’m totally surprised that they’ve lasted this long!!! They’ve been through our house fire in 2014, protected on shelves so they didn’t get water damage but they DID get smoke damaged.

I’ve been using them and they finally started acting up on me. timer record not always working. Arguing with me as to whether or not they want to record. Catching the tape and holding it. SO, when I finally realized I wasn’t going to be happy until I had something that would guarantee I could record my shows nightly, I started searching.

Couldn’t find anything that would work. DVR’s, I’m not paying the price for the ones that you don’t have to have cable with! I finally started searching online for the same thing i’d had before. I am THRILLED to be able to carry on with the same brand etc.

I had the same product & wanted to replace it while I see if mine could be fixed. I’m just sorry that a person can’t purchase this in stores anymore. Not everyone has access to high speed internet. It’s a good machine & I like the dubbing feature, too.

Just as described. Works great. Took a couple of weeks to get it hooked up because can’t figure it out on my own. But after friend hooked it up it worked great and was easy to use.

Very disappointed. DVD part works fine. The VHS part never worked at all. No color , garbled sound, etc. , etc. Tried several tapes. None played satisfactorily. Threw it away rather than hassle with a return, shipping costs, etc.

It is performing very well at present, but I cannot say how long it will last. Its predecessor was purchased new and it only lasted as long as its purchased warranty.

So far, this combo VCR/DVD is working perfectly. It came with the remote and the instruction book. I have been able to play VCRs that are both commercial and homemade. Although I know its refurbished – VCRs have not been made in decades – it looked new and clean.

I didnt need to buy extra wiring or attachments. I plugged the VCR/DVD into my flat screen, it worked right away. My purpose in buying this unit was to play old tapes of my son from the 1980s. Goal achieved!.

I purchased this unit because I have several movies on VHS I haven’t gotten around to replacing with DVD/BluRay. Set up of the unit is simple and straight forward. RCA cables, included in the box, connect the unit to your TV.

Insert a VHS and off it goes. The unit has auto rewind and auto eject after the tape is rewound. The remote is straight forward as well. I haven’t used the DVD yet, however, I believe it will function as well as the VHS.

Make note. this unit will NOT copy a VHS to a DVD, however, the DVD does have “in-line” record capabilities. It requires a coax cable connection to accomplish this task. In as much as I don;t have cable I am not able to report on the DVD’s recording efficiency or clarity.

But, for the price, how can you go wrong?.

Received product in good condition. Had difficulty with remote (defective). Called Sony and afer a hour trying to correct it was determined it had a bad remote. They sent me a new one which works good.

They were very courtious and helpful. I can now program but cannot record a program. I don’t want to call again as they would suggest returning unit to store. I don’t have box anymore and for my purpose at least I can put in one of my tapes to VCR and it plays.

I understand that they have stopped making VCR now so for my purpose of purchashing it would do to function my movies. It is a shame because there are alot of us Seniors who still have the 8 track movies and enjoy replaying them.

I have DVD’s too but still love those oldies but goodies.

I know the technology is a bit antiquated, but I needed a VHS player to play VHS and VHS-C (to a converter/burner) so I can transfer those old tapes to DVD. This player is easy to use, has all the features I need to play, slo-motion, freeze and output to the external DVD Burner.

No complaints. The item came well packaged and works perfectly.

I gotta admit, I was very skeptical when I made the purchase. But my grandma needed something to watch her DVD’s and VHS tapes. She had a Sony old school back about 20 years ago, that was made in Japan.

Unlike these cheesy units made in China, her units finally gave way to the big scrap yard heaven. The shipment was quick about a week’s time. When I opened the package, the unit was light, first thing in my mind was, dang.

I tried to hook the unit up to the TV and all I got was sound, no video at all on any of the composite cables or the S-video port. There were no manuals or any tracking feature, that I could locate about the unit online.

After some fiddling with the TV settings and trying different ports on the unit, video appeared. I was surprised. seriously lol. I tried one of her old VHS tapes from 1985, that I knew was in bad condition, there must have been some tracking feature, cause it came out clear as VHS can go.

After several tapes, I was very pleased. I tried the DVD next, I tried DVD-R-+ and even some imports, they work just fine. The remote controller that came with the unit was pretty easy to operate. Heck, if my grandmother at age 81 can use it, anyone can.

I was a little upset at the beginning that I couldn’t get the unit up and running, but that was human error. After it started working, it works great, my grandma is happy, so am I. Would absolutely recommend this product.

The quality in terms of both form (appearance) and function (operation) is like new. Connection was very easy utilizing the programmed/battery-filled remote and the necessary audio/video wires, which were provided.

It took us only a couple of minutes to set up. To check its condition before leaving feedback, we played first a DVD all through and second a VHS tape all though. The operation of the device was flawless and the picture quality was excellent!!.

I love this! I play a lot of videos for my grandchildren when I’m watching them because I don’t have cable. My old VCR died so I purchased one of these used. Absolutely love it! I didn’t get a remote with it but the best part is I really don’t need it.

Have yet to find anything I can’t do with the buttons on the machine itself. I do have a universal remote I’m sure I can set up to work with it but I really don’t need it so haven’t bothered. The last VCR I had you couldn’t even use unless you had the remote to change the viewing mode so that is a huge plus.

I am not totally helpless when it comes to hooking up these things but also not the best at it either and I had no problem hooking this up with no instructions whatsoever. I was able to download a manual for free online which I have yet to read but I’m sure I’ll find lots of great features I didn’t know it had when I do.

Again. the last VCR I had the manual was not available online. I am already scouting for another one of these for the TV in my den. Another great thing about it is that it’s very light weight so when I need to move it around to dust or something I can lift it with one hand if need be.

Could not do that with my old one which was mostly made of metal and extremely heavy for a vcr so again this was an unexpected plus. For the price I paid for it I got excellent value.

I am an anime fan. There, I said it. So when my old DVD/VCR player, which was a hand-me-down from my sister, finally gave out, needless to say I had to get it replaced fast and cheap! The MWD2206 satisfied both of those qualifications, and then some.

The first thing that took me by surprise was the fact that it was one of the only remaining VCR’s that had a TV tuner on it still within my budget! After taxes, it came up to $59. 89. All of the newer DVD players (including the cousin of this player, the ) didn’t come with tuners, and the ones that did were WAY over my puny budget of $70, so finding this rare gem in Wal-Mart was great.

(Please note, if you’re going to invest in this DVD from Wal-Mart, make sure you’re getting the DVD/VCR model MWD2206, the cousin model, the, , has an IDENTICAL box. ) Setting it up was pretty easy–standard Audio/Video and RF cable connectors around the back plus an audio/video connector in the front.

Red to red, yellow to yellow, white to white, screw in the RF cable, plug into the power strip, and you’re done. One small note; there’s no channel selector switch on the back. Factory default is channel 3.

It can be changed to 4, but you have to follow a few steps in the manual to do it. Here are a few dimensions. The case, a light charcoal grey, is about seventeen inches wide and 4 inches thick. The front panel has no display, only a few LCD lights on the front showing what mode the device is currently on.

The remote is pretty decently sized, roughly seven inches long by two and a half inches long. For those new to DVD/VCR Combo systems, all the buttons may seem a little overwhelming, but after a little practice, you’ll get the hang of it.

Oddly enough, the thing that really rocked my socks was the fact that it had an EJECT button that worked the VCR and the DVD player! Laziness rocks! I am a bit disappointed that it’s not a universal remote, though.

As I’m writing this review, I’m watching one of my favorite anime movies, “Neon Genesis Evangelon: The End of Evangelion” on DVD. The sound is INCREDIBLE! My TV is an old twenty-six inch Magnavox CRT, and the audio that’s coming from the speakers is nothing short of amazing! Using the “Virtual Surround” mode, you really can simulate having a multi-speaker sound system from just two TV speakers.

I’m hearing things on the movie that I’ve NEVER heard before with my old DVD player! The DVD picture quality is really sharp and clean when I’m using the audio/video connection, but degrades SLIGHTLY if you change to tuner mode.

Because I watch DVD’s most of the time, I just leave my TV on Aux and flip through the channels in VCR mode. There is a special mode that lightens and darkens the picture slightly, but overall it’s pretty useless.

In my spare time, I also make my own DVD movies from home videos, and I use DVD+R’s to burn all my projects. I am happy to say that the MWD2206 plays them like any other DVD–even better than my old DVD player which didn’t recognize the individual tracks I laid down.

It also shows still pictures (slide shows) really beautifully. Switching to VCR mode is simple; one button press and you’re back in the analog age. The VCR is really robust–even playing my old cassettes just as clear as the original VCR it was recorded on, though you may have to play around with the tracking.

Recording in SP mode yields a great picture, while recording in SLP mode is nice as well.

The device performed as expected. VHS playback was good on old tapes. Overall good machine so far. I have not tried the DVD part yet, but I do not expect any problems as the player is in very good condition.

We have a large collection of over 400 DVD and VCR videos. Our player “died” and the combo players are very hard to find. It works perfectly and we’re delighted with it. Vicki

Shipped out quickly and had everything as advertised. This was a replacement unit for my father and he had it set up in a few minutes and works well.

I took. a chance and. bought this used because new ones are. so expensive and I have 40 vhs tapes with converted 8mm family home movies that are pricless that I needed to convert to dvd. before they go bad.

I also have some assorted store bought new movies on vhs & nobody wants vhs. tapes so that market is zero. The ad said the player was lightly used and that sold me. Well this player looks like its brand new on exterior and picture quality is great.

I’ ve already converted 4 vhs home movies to dvd and couldn’t be happier with my new used toy.

This is our 2nd purchase for this used/pre-owned brand and model DVD/VCR Combo unit. I bought this to play the many VHS tapes I have. I always buy three units at a time since they are all used out there.

It works as it should, although since it is no longer made and the ones now available for sale are used and/or refurbished don’t expect to get too much use out of it. We were lucky to get one year’s use out of it.

Overall, a worthy purchase to do the job it is designed to do: It plays vhs video tapes and DVDs. Also, realize that depending on where you buy it, you may not get a remote control unit with it, so be sure to know what you are buying.

We had over 100 video movie tapes that I gave my daughter & grandkids. , I was relieved when I found this product at a reasonable price so they could play the movies and enjoy watching them together.

I really ordered this by mistake, thinking it was a DVD recorder too, not just a player. Nevertheless, the shipping was fast, I tested it for playing in VHS and DVD modes and recording in VHS. All worked fine.

Need to sell it.

I’m really impressed with this product, and customer service is easy to contact to walk you through any questions you have. If you purchase this product keep the printed out label they tape on top of the system.

Get the warranty because it is refurbished. I am already playing and dubbing my VHS videos to DVD and it’s working great. Don’t send your VHS tapes and precious memories off to some unknown company and risk them getting lost.

It’s worth the investment to get this recorder and do it yourself.

Except for the arrangement and appearance of the front panel, this Toshiba is exactly the same as the Sayno, Magnavox, and others that look like those, so don’t be fooled into thinking it will be different or better.

All are the same old technology, but short of paying hundreds more, I could not find anything else. This is old technology. The printed instructions say in large print something like: “HDMI is a developing technology and this device may not be compatible with all TVs.

” We have a Sony Bravia that is 4 years old and the HDMI is not compatible. Using HDMI does not allow the VHS to be played without being stretched to fit the screen. DVDs are distorted too, no matter which TV aspect ratio is selected in the settings.

Using the composite (RCA red/white/yellow) cable that is included allows both the VCR and DVD aspect ratios to display correctly. This isn’t a problem for the VCR since the video is not digital to start with.

For the DVD it looks OK but it is not as clear as a digital connection and not unconverted as is described on the box. Another complication we had was that there isn’t an HDMI or component (red/green/blue/white/yellow) input on the VCR/DVD player/recorder—only composite.

So if you have a digital cable box as most are, it will look blurred on the screen or recordings if you use it to watch or record cable. It cannot receive a digital signal, only send it out. It DOES dub from VHS to DVD just fine, so it can be used for that, and it can be used for VHS playback.

So is those are what you want to do and you have other devices for playing DVDs and recording cable (such as a DVR) you can do those successfully. Considering all that, we returned this Toshiba and purchased the Sanyo which is cheaper, and plan to use just as a VCR and for dubbing.

We didn’t even connect it to cable because the quality is unacceptable.

I like to archive TV shows from my cable DVR and Toshiba DVD Recorders have always been great workhorses for doing just that. I wanted a stand alone DVD Recorder but since they are hard to find anymore, the VCR combo was a nice added feature.

As some have said, if you are dubbing from tape to DVDyou can’t pause/edit out commercials. (Not a problem if going to cable box to DVD Recorder). (And you CAN NOT dub an old store bought professionaly taped movie to a DVD – there is usually a hidden marco-code on the tape that prevents that, so unless its a tape that you made, do not expect to dub your VHS store bought Star Wars collecton to DVD.

) For some, operating the system might be complicated, but I have had no problems. 8 hour mode is great for recording news shows. I usually use the LP 4 hour mode for movies and favoriote shows. It also has 2 and 6 hours modes.

There is no tuner, but that is fine by me. I just hope Toshiba kees making these great machines for a long time. This is the second Toshiba DVD Recorder that Ihave owned, I bought this one just to keep the first one from being over used.

In the 4 years that I have had the first model, it has been great and never gave me any problems. As a tip, I recommend using ‘DVD -‘ discs instead of ‘DVD +’ as the ‘plus’ discs tend to have given me playback problems over the years.

This is not a fault of the recorders, but a playback issue with some standard DVD players. So if you like archiving some of your favorite shows for your personal home view collection, I highly recommend Toshiba DVD Recorders, a solid recorder with HDMI up-conversion.

(Recorder does not record in HD, which as of now, would probably be way to expensive. ) Thanks again for a great, reliable product.

I had researched alternative adaptor devices to convert VHS tapes to DVD’S and the best of them had serious issues, mainly feedback from customers that said the audio gets out of sync with the video after several minutes.

For me this product even as a refurbished one and the 90 day warranty that comes with it made it a good choice because any issues should show up in the first 90 days, the deal maker was the excellent price for the 2 year extended warranty offered at a very reasonable extra charge removed all doubt about trying this product.

This Funai VHS/DVD recorder/player does a very good job of converting my valued and treasured home family video’s to a more durable DVD format. The learning curve on how to use this was very short. My Panasonic VHS/DVD recorder/player that had quit working on the DVD side was a little easier to learn but this FUNAI has done what I hoped it would do and once you learn any quirks it does a great job.

The only real initial problem I had was that my old unit recorded audio/video without any additional set up steps, this FUNAI was not recording the sound until I went back into the set-up stage for the audio and made sure it was not in the stereo mode, only the mono mode.

I have had two times that I had difficulty getting a VHS tape out of the product after I was finished with transferring the material off of it. It may be my fault in not waiting until the DVD functions have completed before I was attempting to get the VHS tape to eject.

On these occasions I just waited until the DVD functions completed and removed the DVD and then powered off the unit and removed the power cord from the wall outlet and plugged it back in and powered on the unit and mad sure the mode was on VHS and the matching then would eject the tape when I pressed the eject button on the unit.

The sample I received is in very good condition. Some scuffing on the translucent panel around the buttons and display and a couple of little nicks on the top. The unit was wrapped in bubble pack and sitting on top of the remote which I thought might be damaged it but it works fine.

A user manual is included. Batteries are not. I have burned about 10 DVDs so far from VHS tapes of our wedding and various family recordings. Operation is pretty straightforward. Push the VHS tape in the slot (make sure it is rewound) and drop a blank DVD -R in the tray.

Do not buy DVD +R, they won’t work. On the front panel is a button labeled “DDUB”. Press it after the unit has checked the blank DVD and settled down. It begins copying. Out of the box the recorder is set to copy VHS -> DVD for 2 hours max per tape.

You do have to “finalize” the DVD after it finishes. This is done by pressing the SETUP button on the remote and hitting the down arrow to select the DVD Menu. FINALIZE will be there. It takes a few minutes to complete.

I’ve now dug out our two old camcorders and lined up the tapes. These plug into the jacks on the front panel (or rear panel if you prefer). There is an INPUT button on the remote to go back and forth between the rear “L1” jacks or the front panel “L2” jacks.

I selected L2. If your camcorder uses the round black “s-video” plug instead of the yellow RCA plug you will need to go into the setup menu to change the selection: press the SETUP button, go to the VIDEO Menu then the SELECT VIDEO menu.

Select the L1 (rear jacks) or L2 (front jacks). Then press OK to go down one more level and select the S-Video input. Additional thoughts: Set the clock using the SETUP button then select GENERAL SETTINGS.

I’ve connected the unit to a 40″ Magnavox flat screen TV using an HDMI cable. This works fine. Don’t be surprised if your old tape recordings look terrible on a large screen TV. The resolution just isn’t there.

I find they look much better on a smaller computer screen. Good luck. Overall I think this is a fine choice. It finally got me moving to transfer these old recordings.

After 11 years my cheap old Emerson VCR finally drifted off to VCR heaven so it was time to buy a new TV recorder. I was considering a DVR but when I saw this Funai VCR/DVD combo for only $168 at Walmart I decided to give it a shot and I’m glad I did.

I was slightly skeptical of the brand at first but after looking them up online it appears they have been making products for 50 years and actually make a lot of better known brands (Sylvania, Emerson, Magnavox, Philips) under their flagship so it’s basically all the same thing.

Everything is owned by one company in China now a days more or less so you might as well get the best deal. The thing that cinched it for me was this recorder and the Magnavox version look EXACTLY identical except for the name plate and the price sticker (HINT! HINT!).

Anyway the first thing you need to know about this recorder is that is that does NOT have a built-in tuner which is stated clearly on the package. For you novices out there that means you can’t just screw a coaxial cable directly into this sucker.

You have to run a video cord from your cable box to this unit. Of course I don’t know who DOESN’T have their TV already hooked up to a cable or satellite box in 2014 but if you are one of these people you will need a recorder with a tuner included which adds about $70 to the price depending on the model.

If you already have your TV running through a cable or satellite box then that’s your tuner and you can save some money! Anyway the set up isn’t too difficult. I admit I’m pretty tech savvy but the instruction booklet is very helpful and you should be up and running in no time.

From walking in the door I set the whole thing up in about 30 minutes and was burning DVDs. This device has two input choices available for recording TV: basic composite video (your standard yellow, red and white RCA jacks about 480i quality) or S-video (one black S cord, slightly better quality).

I actually prefer using composite video, the image is very sharp and you don’t get the dot crawl I seem to get from an S cord. Although I already had a ton laying around from my old video game consoles, a composite video cord is thoughtfully included in the box along with a remote WITH batteries! I have since programmed the unit so most of the functions work with my universal remote.

The device does include an impressive array of output options. Besides the composite and S video there are component video output jacks (red, blue and green RCA jacks going up to about 1080p HD quality) and drum roll.

a HDMI output jack (1080p HD quality picture and sound). (Those cords aren’t included although you could buy them for about 4 bucks. I’m quite satisfied with the composite video myself). Of course these are only OUTPUT jacks meaning the quality still depends on what you actually dump into the unit in the first place (whether you have HDTV service or HD movie disks).

Everything recorded (composite or S video) will still be in standard definition. This recorder has a ton of features. Probably too many for me to mention. Obviously you can record to VHS, DVD-RW and DVD-R.

You can erase and record over VHS and DVD-RW over and over. You can record live TV to tape or disk. The DVD timer setting works very much like a VCR. For those of you who haven’t recorded TV to DVD before I can tell that you can fit as much as 8 hours onto one disk although the quality gets much better at slower settings.

There’s XP 1hr, SP 2hrs, LP 4hrs, EP 6hrs and SLP 8hrs. XP is perfect quality, LP almost as good, at SLP it’s a bit fuzzy but still satisfactory if you are recording long sports games like I do. You can dub from VHS to DVD or vice-versa.

Right now I’m in the process over moving all my old tapes to disks. You can put chapter markers on the DVDs so you can skip ahead. There’s a handy DVD commercial skip button (30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 seconds).

You can play music CDs (both store bought and burned) on it. Once you “finalize” each disk it will play as a standard DVD in most other players (sometimes I swap DVDs with my friends, etc. ) The unit also comes with a 90 day warranty on labor and a one year warranty on parts.

All in all I am extremely pleased with this recorder (especially considering the price) and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Panasonic has been making these DVD Recorder / VCR Combo’s for several years, however the best units were those made in 2005 and 2006 for one reason: They have the ability to store phrases. Phrases are names you can assign to programs that you record frequently.

So when entering a description you can recall a saved phrase (up to 20) and enter the title of the show, then append a date or anything else you’d like. The newer units don’t have this feature any more (too bad).

This unit does not have Digital Tuner, but if you have cable you probably don’t need a digital tuner. About the only thing that would make this unit better would be to have included Commercial Advance (skip) and a true SVHS record mode for the VHS, but my purchase was mainly for DVD recordings and the all important Save/Recall Phrase list.

Note: If you are using this unit to copy your old VHS tapes to DVD and run into problems you can insert a Time Base Corrector between the VHS out & DVD in that will replace the corrupt timing signals with new ones on a frame by frame basis.

The DMR-ES46 thought I had commercial (home made) tapes and said they were copy protected, which they were not (they were just old made mostly in the late 80’s – early 90’s). The TBC fixed all my problems.

While I was at it, I bought a used A/V processor to clean up the color before making the final DVD.

Per the many reviews out there on this unit, it does have some shortcomings,such as high DVD reader failure and hard to follow owners manual, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. I have had 5 of the ES46s, 1 DMR-EZ48, 1 DMR-ES35, and 1 DMR-ES40.

At least 2 of the ES46s, the ES40, and the EZ48 have all failed with the “NO READ” error which is impractical to repair. Again, there are many positives in this unit. I have 2 of them hooked up so I can record both TV1 and TV2 (only 1 Dish VIP222K receiver)at the same time.

The first one in the main entertainment center, allows me to route a DVD Player, a ROKU box, the TV1 and TV2 outputs, and an audio receiver through it to a main TV and 5 other remote TVs. Using remote extenders, it enables me to watch TV1 or TV2, the ROKU, and the DVD player at all 6 TVs and record from both TV1 and TV2 outputs.

The second DMR-ES46 is hooked up in a 2nd entertainment center to record/play programs from TV2. I’m sure these features are the reason why even good used ones are expensive and hard to find.

Versatile and dependable VHS/DVD combo unit. Great for playing those old family VHS tapes and selections from the collection. These Panasonic’s are built like a tank and wear like it, too – not like the more recent plasticky units.

Everything just works great so far, only had a few weeks. Came quick and well packaged. no damage. Remote and all button working. Tapes and dvds load smoothly. The price was reasonable. Nothing else to comment on.

This unit does not work. The vhs plays but no sound, the dvd will not open. I was not able to use this unit to copy vhs onto a dvd of old family movies for grandchildren at Christmas.

Excellent machine even though refurbished. Works very well, have had other machines of this model in the past and was very pleased with them also. Deliver was very quick and well packed. Very pleased overall.

The only reason I have not given this product a 5 star rating is I just got it. Time will tell if it holds up to use. It was so easy to set up. The instructions are very clear and helpful. The necessary connecting wires, remote are all included.

It was really 1,2 3. I love that I can play VHS movies that used to be my daughters’-for my grandson. The tapes are old, the picture is not absolutely perfect. Still looks a lot better than the fuzzy black and white TV we had downstairs when I was a kid.

It is great to have both a dvd and a vhs player in one machine. Less clutter and wires. Buy it before you can no longer get it!.

-The VHS worked, but it does not record VHS to DVD like they state and when I called Dealing Fair they said it does records VHS tapes to DVD but again it does not and I confirmed with Sanyo with the product model and serial number.

So A. they don’t know their products and B. they tried to overcharge me for restocking, C. They shorted me on price. -To top it off Dealing Fair wanted to charge me a 20% restocking fee and shipping and handling fee for the wrong product they sent me.

This is terrible I have made numerous requests through Walmart customer service and it’s always wait a few days which this whole process has taken a month now and I still have money owed to me as Walmart said they would cover the 20% so they did but then they still refunded me $90 short of cost.

So far it’s working well. DVD and VHS tapes doing fine while viewing. The add may have mentioned the remote was not factory but it operates the unit fine. The remote range and point of aim is more limited than our original unit was but does the trick.

The unit is black compared to our old one that was silver and the manual controls are a little less visible when operating. Dark color makes it harder to see the buttons. Bottom line is everything appears to work and we are glad to be watching our movies again.

Hope it lasts a long time.

Over the years I had collected numerous tapes of movies. then they were rendered obsolete by DVDs. What to do about all those VCR movies from years ago? Watch them. When the Toshiba SD-V296 that I had owned for many years finally went kaput I started looking for a replacement.

Since I already had the programming procedure down pat, I hoped to buy another just like the one I had. Each one I found was well used and seemed somewhat iffy to me. New ones were discontinued. I kept looking and found one listed as “like new” display model and ordered it.

Being of newer manufacture (last year) I found that everything worked more smoothly and the picture was much crisper than it was on my old set. If it proves to hold up as well as my old one, I will be happy.

So far it has lived up to expectations. The only downside is that you cannot watch a different TV channel while recording a TV program.

Love the dvd / vcr combo from Toshiba. I had this same one that quit working after many years of use. I have lots of vcr work out tapes from the 80s and also dvds It didnt come with a remote but I already had one from my old unit.

Great product. I look forward to many more years of use.

Glad to have this unit. My previous VCR/DVD combo died and I needed another one to be able to watch VCR tapes that I have. And to be able to covert a few to DVD.

While the item appears to work for most part, it is in a rather poor shape and makes a lot of noises. It is scratched and dented on all sides.
