The top ingredient in this product is alfalfa hay which is generally only given to guinea pigs 6 months and younger or those who are pregnant. Adult guinea pigs who have alfalfa hay products regularly can and usually do develop seious calcium buildup and kidney problems.

Nuts are not typically great for guinea pigs either since they can cause tooth problems as well. However, if alfalfa hay was not the primary ingredient or at least the package were correctly labeled for young guinea pigs only, then I might have given it another star or two.

I had been using a different brand that Chewy does not sell but it was similar to this one and my gp liked it but didn’t love it. Then the last bags I got were mostly useless powder so decided to try a new brand.

Smokey loves this and even eats all the pellets which he didn’t do with the old brand. I’m happy with this and so is Smokey.

My four piggies love this food. I have been ordering this brand for a long time now, and my boars couldn’t be happier about it! And if I ever have a problem with the condition of the packaging when it arrives, Chewy sends another immediately! Love this food and love chewy!!!.

I have a gerbil missing all four front teeth and only has molars left. I have had to feed my gerbil a special diet of raw beef and thawed vegetable to keep him alive while searching for a more nutrient rich alternative.

I have tried other food with pellets in them and they either turned to mush or didn’t absorb enough water to be edible for him. The Oxbow Essential kibbles have a perfect texture when wet to pick up but not fall apart or be too firm to chew which makes it possible for him to still eat and keep hydrated since using a traditional water bottle is also difficult for him.

Being that this food is balanced makes me feel so much better since he get all his nutrients from one source now.

One day,few months ago,I was watching my bird and squirrel feeders. Lo and behold,sitting with the morning doves and munching food was a very young cottontail rabbit. Ran to my husband all excited over the bunny.

20 Years ago we rescued 2 other wild rabbit babies. They did extremely well and lived long lives. We are seniors and I am disabled,on equipment 24/7. Our dogs AND Bunny have given me a new lease on life.

I bought this from my local petsmart thinking it would be okay as a temporary mix for my new chinese dwarf hamster because it has no artificial additives, as most brands in the pet store had artificial flavors/preservatives which I did not want to feed him, although, this mix does not have very much variety and does not supply all the nutrients hamsters need.

Like most are saying, I would recommend higgins sunburst or vitacraft+ some sort of protein for a complete, more nutritional diet. It is VERY good that this brand does not have any artificial colors and encourages natural foraging instincts, though I still would definitely not recommend buying this for your hammy due to a low nutritional value (to me, this is kind of just like a diet filler).

I decided to write this review after reading some of the others here. We have been using this food since it first appeared on the shelves of our local pet store. While it is true that there are times that the “extras” seem to be in short supply in a bag, it is not the norm at all.

Our bags generally have a good mixture of goodies in with the pellets. I have noticed a bit of a difference since COVID and worker shortages, but overall, the quality is still wonderful and it delivers exactly what it promises.

We have a picky bun. I’ve tried several foods and she’s not wanted any of them. We ordered this one thinking she deserves the best. Well, I suppose she thinks the same thing. LOL! Now when she hears the bag, she runs to her bowl from wherever she is (she has free reign of the house)! She is eating double what she had been before (no, not overweight either).

Hands down this is a quality food and comes as pictured. dandelions, carrots, hay and all. I highly recommend this for other bunnies out there!.

Our guinea pig really likes this product. The blend has a wonderful aroma to it and seems to really make our guinea pig happy (and hoppy, too) whenever she eats it. Sometimes we mix it in with her hay and she enjoys foraging for it.

She uses her nose to find the little treats hidden there.

I bought this product for my piggies a few weeks ago to encourage them to eat more of their Timothy hay by incorporating it. This mixture encourages their natural foraging behavior and it is so much fun to see them pick through it! They think it is delicious and squeal with joy when they hear me open the bag! I would buy this product again in a heartbeat! I couldn’t recommend this mixture to all the guinea pig parents out there who only want the best for their babies!! Will definitely repurchase!.

This food is not good for bunnies to eat. It has a lot of fats and sugars that are unnecessary to have. My dad bought my bunny this once while I was away. Now my bunny won’t eat just regular pellets.

I found if I make my own mixture it’s better some seeds he likes and Timothy pellets. It’s your bunny though do what you do. When my bunny is on this food his health seems fine as long as he gets the correct amount and the rest of his veggies.

(Meaning no unlimited unless baby).

My bunny thinks he’s a king, feasting daily on this food. It is especially nice for him in the winter when it’s harder to come by fresh tasty things. Usually in the summer my kids pick him fresh grasses and things to eat, but where we live that’s only half the year.

He went crazy over all the little dried tidbits and seeds. He eats the pellets last, and I can’t blame him there. He is an older bunny, over 6 years now, so I hope this food helps him keep hopping!.

I bought my parakeet the wild harvest treat stick. This food was hard as concrete. I noticed that there was blood on her perch so I looked at her and her beak had chipped off. Well I want you to know because of your product, I found my bird this morning on the bottom of her cage.

She died in the middle of the night. Your products suck and you should be ashamed of yourself selling a product that is going to hurt and innocent pet!!!!.

It isn’t as fresh-looking as other brands I’ve bought and the dust content is much higher. I haven’t used it long enough to determine how the rabbits do on this feed. I ordered it because the food I was getting for them was getting difficult to obtain.

I am just using this as a filler feed in case of supply issues with another food I am using as my main supply.

I’ve known several rabbits who developed gastrostasis and died as a direct result of eating Purina rabbit food products. I purchased a bag of this food recently to show the significant differences in quality between brands, and this brand ranks lowest.

I will never feed Purina to any of my rabbits, show or athletic.

We bought this for our show rabbits and they absolutely love it! The pellets are of great quality and the overall bag was not full of dust (broken down pellets). The price is also great. We were recommended this product by another show Rabbitry that buys them from TSC.

They always have them in stock and if we need more they will always order them in for us. TSC is always a great place to shop for our kids 4-H project needs, and they are very helpful, with knowledge and costumer service!.

My original two piggies (they have since passed away) absolutely LOVED this stuff! They easily transitioned off Oxbow pellets onto this brand and would wait around their bowl in the morning and finish all the pellets within 10 minutes.

They never had any health problems or any problems with these pellets and my vet said these pellets are approved by her and are good quality. I currently have 3 piggies who were adopted from the local shelter, which from what I could tell, they were eating guinea pig pellets that had other bits of things mixed in, like pea flakes, corn, and other added seed type ingredients.

I’m not a fan of these types of mixed pellet diets so I wanted to transition them to Science Selective. 2 of the 3 like these pellets and eat them throughout the day! They do wait by their bowl in the morning and eat them as soon as I pour it, but they never finish it quite like my first two piggies.

My 3rd piggy will not touch this stuff, even when offering it to him by hand, he will take a pellet and then drop it and run away. I would say this brand is amazing with the ingredients in this guinea pig food, so it makes it worth a try to see if your piggies can transition to it, especially if they’re currently on a pellet that isn’t the healthiest.

I love that this pellet is grain-free and does not contain alfalfa hay. I’ll continue to purchase this and would highly recommend giving these pellets a try.

I have two bowls out for my pigs-one for regular pellets and one for these. I was nervous they would not like these, but they enjoy and look for them. It is important to make sure your pigs are not getting too much calcium as well.

I also recommend the oxbow pellets as well- nothing w corn or additives or colored food bits. It’s garbage, and not good for them at all. Spending a little more on decent food saves you $ in the long run from expensive vet bills when they get bladder stones from too much calcium.

My girl had a huge bladder stone she could not pass and had to go to the vet for. I highly recommend this food. Even just leaving out a handful a day. Also, the 50 lb bale of hay on here by oxbow for 50$ as well has saved me a ton of $.

It lasts me 6 months for my 6 pigs, and I used to spend over 50$ a month running to the pet store getting small bags.

These pellets were recommended by the rabbit rescue place and they are great. Always fresh. I feed my rabbits 2 kinds because I have some other brand leftover and my rabbits both pick out this kind first and eat it all.

Then eat the other kind. They love it!!! I think they like the bigger size of the pellets too which is good for their teeth.

If I had to recommend the best pellets for rabbits, it would be Sherwood Forest and Oxbow Garden Select; but if you insist upon feeding something that’s a mix instead of plain pellets, this is a good choice, it’s the only true muesli mix I have seen that I would recommend; there are other rabbit foods out there that are pellets with a few herbs mixed in, I wouldn’t consider those muesli mixes since they don’t have so many add ins, and would recommend them assuming the pellets in the mix are good quality.

Anyways, if you’re looking for a muesli mix against everyone’s recommendation, please choose this one!! All others that I have seen I would never give to my rabbits, but I do give them this as a treat and they love it 🙂 Everything should always be a supplement to free choice grass hay!!.

I myself really like this brand! But my Rabbit Hippo loves it more! This is the only food he will eat! It has the normal pellets but with a lot of other things in it like the bananas, carrots, and a lot of other things! It’s great for rabbits!.

First time moving from young to adult food, so didn’t know how she would react. Tried a different brand first (shall go unnamed) and she didn’t touch that. The Vita Prima is now her favorite. And thanks Chewy for giving a full refund for the one she didn’t like.

So, I know this food is sweet. Someone else compared it to the “lucky charms of rabbit food” and I have to agree with them. That said, my rabbit will not eat anything other than this brand. My rabbit is about 3 1/2 and is a mini-Rex mix.

I adopted him, so he may be a bit older/younger than I was told (I actually think he’s closer to 3). I’ve had him 2 1/2 years and I fed him this food for about the first year I had him. Then I learned how bad it was for him and decided to explore my options.

I tried just about every food brand and type out there for about a year. I tried mixing different brands, I tried waiting a few weeks between switching up foods, I tried mixing in a little bit of the “fiesta” food, and I tried just timothy pellets, but he either refused it or would eat very, very little.

After trying over 10 different options, I finally went back to this brand and he went back to eating all of it up. I don’t know if it’s the sweetness or if he just likes this brand (maybe both), but my rabbit is in love with this food.

For that reason, this food gets a 5. My rabbit loves it and he hasn’t had a problem yet.

I am speaking on behalf of my rabbit Peter (my daughter rescued him as a baby, he was in the middle of a busy road, scared and lost). Needless to say, she rescued him and he has been living like a king ever since.

He loves this brand of rabbit food, it has a lot of dried fruit and extras to make it more yummy than just regular pellets. I also highly recommend the other Kaytee rabbit treats, they are great for an afternoon or before bed snack and Peter can’t eat them fast enough.

Another recommendation would be to get the Kaytee Natural Hay, it comes in several different types and is necessary for a healthy bunny. Be sure to include fresh fruits and vegetab;es in their diet as well but, be sure to look up what is good for them.

somethings you would think are good for them can actually make them very sick and sometimes die. If you want more information visit the Kaytee website, it is great for information.

DO NOT GIVE THIS TO YOUR RABBIT AS FOOD!!!! The extra pellets in there act as treats and have high amounts of sugar, which too much for your rabbit to have all the time. If you want you can use these pellets as treats but not food.

If you feed these pellets as food then it could cause internal problems for your sensitive rabbit’s stomach and varying on sensitivity, possibly death. When you buy pellets for your rabbit make sure they are all the same look and don’t have any of these extra treats in them.

I would suggest either [brand:small-pet-select] rabbit pellets or even as good rabbit pellets that are good and nutritious for your rabbit. Small pet select also has nice bulls of hay and bedding for your bunny and numerous other toys and health care products for your bunnies and other animals as well.

This food isn’t safe for guinea pigs due to it containing seeds, nuts & corn. All of those foods are dangerous for guinea pigs due to being a choking hazard. I actually didn’t realize this food contained those when I fed it to my piggy.

It was a sub for the food I had originally ordered. She quit eating her veggies which is something I’ve never had her do before lol. My daughter actually realized what was in the food & told me because we were concerned over her not eating her veggies well.

She was picking the nuts, seeds & corn out & filling up on them. Back to her old food & now she is eating her veggies again.

I love getting this food for my guinea pigs because I know I don’t need to add anything to it for them to get all their necessary vitamins and nutrients. I have 10 guinea pigs and it really satisfies me that they eat it with no problem.

They are all healthy and never look sick or stay hungry. I am very pleased with this for my pets. I do recommend it definitely. I give it more than 5 stars.

This food is absolutely not safe for Guinea pigs – ever. The seeds and corn can easily kill them. Do not buy Guinea pig food with seeds or corn. Good old Timothy hay pellets will do just fine. Stop using this food and research safe foods for Guinea pigs.

It has a lot of the things that my rabbits love to eat in a dried form but it is there a nightly treat. It helps get them a little extra on top of their normal pellets. The only thing I hate are the bags.

They are difficult to open or rip open and then can’t be resealed. I miss their old bags.

My rabbits like this product for the extra treats in it. I have to feed this in small portions or their tummy’s get upset. They tend to waste the pellets and only eat the goodies. LOL

My bunny gets bored with his food. This is the first brand I’ve purchased that has all kinds of goodies! I’ve purchased some brands that tout variety, yea, no! I will def continue to buy this!

We used to feed our rabbits this brand of food, and they liked it okay. I one day noticed something black amongst the food as I was about to feed my bunnies, and it was a sunflower seed shell. I thought it may have been a one-time mistake, and didn’t think anything of it.

Then I saw the shells more frequently, and when I checked the bag I noticed that it said “Manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts and tree nuts”. That’s fine, but Kaytee also makes bird food too that has sunflower seeds in it, and they somehow kept getting in my rabbit’s food that I’d order.

Rabbits aren’t supposed to eat seeds or nuts because it’s difficult for them to digest those foods, and so I’ve stopped feeding them this brand because I didn’t want to chance any issues happening.

I have a 10. 5 year old indoor rabbit; she seems just as energetic and healthy as when I adopted her when she was 4. I feed her a small handful of timothy pellets twice a day, a large leaf of romaine/red/green leaf lettuce twice a day, an unsweetened dried banana/plantain chip once a day, and free feed hay that we grow on our dairy farm.

I had previously fed two varieties of timothy pellets from another popular and more expensive brand and both I and my rabbit were happy with them. A few years ago when I was running low on pellets, my go-to brand was out of stock at a number of retailers and after a little research, I decided on this product to get me through until my main product was available again.

Little did I know that my rabbit would love this one just as much and now after several years, we never did switch back to our previous brand.

Was looking for seedless pellets for our rabbit to give twice a day. No pellets with seeds should be given to a rabbit and pellets needs to be only 5% of their diet. It’s more like a treat. Was excited when I found Kaytee Timothy Complete.

Love that it’s made from Timothy Hay — which our rabbit has an unlimited supply of. I only give him a small bowl full in the morning and again in the evening. He also enjoys fresh produce once a day and pieces of fruit once a week.

Timothy hay is always in his hutch to eat throughout the day. 85% of a rabbit’s diet should be hay, 10% should be fresh produce (no iceberg! Google has great charts on what they can/can’t eat in fruits and produce) and 5% pellets.

He loves these pellets and comes running when I shake his little bowl. Adding to the fact it also maintains healthy teeth — sold. Would recommend and I will continue to buy as long as nothing changes with the formula.

This is the food we use for our adult rabbits (I’d recommend a food specific to young rabbits–1 year old or less). It has good nutritional content and the rabbits really like it. The foods that have the fake carrots and such in it may look good to a human, but my rabbits at least couldn’t care less for it.

This non-sexy pellet-only food is plenty good for them. My problem is that one of the rabbits likes it a bit too much, so we have to be careful not to overfeed him and make sure he has more opportunity to eat hay than pellets.

It’s actually good practice to push hay over pellets. My method is to simply give less pellets and make sure there’s plenty of fresh hay.

I recently got a mini lop bunny and when being given to me the previous caretaker had fed him Kaytee pellets. Of course, I went to go buy the same brand, knowing how picky some pets can be. One thing to note about this particular pellet (and its perhaps my own sensitive nose,) is that it has a strong smell.

To what, I am not sure, but its as if every time I open the bag I am attacked by a scratch and sniff of every pellet smell condensed in one small area. My rabbit, on the bright side, does not seem to care and happily munches away.

So happily in fact, he stopped eating his hay the first day I gave him these pellets (I had given him more than I normally did) which was hilariously scary for a first time bunny owner. Its a good brand overall, and the amount of pellets is plenty.

I was feeding my rabbit (a 1-year-old spayed champagne d’argent) Oxbow for her daily pellets, but it is just so expensive. I did quite a bit of research and found this food highly recommended by multiple sources.

I compared the ingredients and found them to be extremely similar between this food and the Oxbow. I made the decision to purchase this food and am now on my third bag! Miss Frida loves these pellets and I feel good feeding them to her (none of that extra added junk some pellets have).

When I read other reviews on here I found people to be concerned with the alfalfa and lower fiber in the food. I feed my rabbit all the timothy hay she can eat and at least 2 cups of greens a day, all she gets in pellets is 2 Tablespoons in the morning and evening of pellets to supplement her diet.

If you are free feeding timothy hay I don’t think you need to worry about your rabbit not getting enough fiber. There is some dust in the bottom of the bag but never so much it caused me concern or that I thought it was more than other brands.

Overall this is a great food and fantastic quality and quantity for the price! I am very pleased!.

I gotta pipe in about this worst bunny food I’ve ever bought, so maybe you can know to watch out for it. I got it in my local grocery store, not off of here. It is SO HORRID!! It’s got dyes, funky shaped pieces, pieces of unknown material and my bunnies HATE the stuff!! They pick out the banana pieces and that’s it.

2 types of pellets in there and the larger pellet is SO tough, bunnies can’t even tooth it. Seriously, who the heck created it this feed and do they know ANYTHING about bunnies and their sensitive GI tracts?! Never buying this again, I only got it in desperation mode when all other stores closed and this was my only option.

No way this is nutritionally balanced or good for ANY bunny pet!!.

Our lop loves this mix. The kids love to pick out the little yummy bits to feed her. We don’t feed this to her as her main food source but will add some small scoops of it to her regular pellets and she enjoys it.

The “vital” biscuits are a great training treat.

Our rabbit rejects all other foods except Brown’s Tropical Carnival Gourmet Rabbit Food. The excellent mix contains a variety of healthy nuts, fruit and grass pellets that provides great nutrition for our pet rabbit.

Got this as it seemed like a high quality pellet food for my 2 bunz. I at first mixed a small amount in with their old pellet food. I was really saddened to see they would eat the old pellets and totally ignore these until later when they would go back.

Now the mixture is 50/50 and they totally ignore the old pellets. They even run excitedly to their food bowl in anticipation of it. These pellets also look more like nuggets with a variety of other veg things in there.

I often hated the look of the typical pellets. Really happy with this product and will continue to buy this until they are older to switch to the adult version.

when i saw “forage blend” i ordered immediately because my chinchilla loves foraging. unfortunately this product didnt wow either her, or myself. there wasnt much of a mix or selection of morsels for her, the timothy hay was not vivid green like her usual, and upon opening the bag, i wasnt sure if the product had a distinct smell, or if it was stale.

but it smelled a little on the stale side, and i didnt even think to check if it had an expiration date. i will not be buying this product again, the amount of hay in here didnt make me feel like this purchase was worthawhile since i always supplement her diet with seperately bought timothy hay.

3 stars for average but a decent price point.

I use this as a fun treat or supplement to my bunnies’ regular Martin’s pellets. They love the variety that Versele Laga Cuni Nature offers. I wish my local store carried this regularly because it’s a hassle to have to pre-order a bag, especially when they are out of stock.

It was falling apart, parts were missing, and one part even came put together backwards.

It was hard to to put together but once I got it together, it is perfect! My daughter loves it so much!
