20 Best Vegetables For Chickens (2022 Updated)

I’ve ordered this bag about 5 times for my hens. The first few bags they loved them, and the last two bags seem to be a bit stale and less appealing to the birds. A few of the hens aren’t even very interested in them when I scatter the fly grubs.

And the wild turkeys that come into the yard just look at them and keep moving. Then I just realized these and ALL mealworms and most grubs are grown in China. Some are microwaved to dry them. Which nuke’s all the quality nutrients (We all know many animals die each year from feeding them a randomly bad batch of pet food from China) Any way, I will stop buying these.

The ONLY grubs that claim to be 100% made in the USA are the brand “Tasty Grubs”. They do claim that their meal worms are raised in China though. Just the grubs are from USA. And the price is just as fair as the other brands.

I am going to try the Tasty Grubs this time.

If you’re looking for one product but are on a budget with your layers stop right here!! Look no further! BSF larvae is the biggest protein bang for you buck, she in particular, Fly Grubs. Your hens will thank you for caring enough to quit feeding them measly mealworms-these blow larvae like Flock Party out of the water! These larvae are packed with shoot-like 6x (or more! I don’t want to exaggerate but I can’t recall, I had know it’s a lot more) protein, which ONLY layers/adult chickens need.

Don’t give to your baby chicks. My hens have been happily laying since Oct, when they were 18 weeks old during a long, cold, snowy Ohio winter because they get a daily 12 oz cup of these treats (averages 1 oz per bird).

Red a little and you’ll be surprised at how much healthier BSF larvae are for your flock. BSF larvae is being studied by scientists at Purina because of the low impact on the environment/carbon footprint and will soon be introduced as a main protein source for dog food.

My 105 lb beast LOVES hen feeding time because she gets to scarf down any larvae that is dropped near her, no joke!! My hens’ eggs are big, gorgeous, thick shelled, and so orange yellow and fresh. My chickens are SO happy with beautiful feathers and healthy immune systems.

My chickens go bananas for garden delight. It has a very oregano scent to it which I like. Some of my hens eat only the grapes, some only eat the white colored grains, others eat everything. None is wasted.

I mix (2) bags of this along with a 25 pound bag of organic scratch grains to boost the variety of grains with dried vegetables and fruit. It makes a colorful blend, plus boosts the protein. My chickens, ducks, and geese love it!.

Hi, here’s the review for the Whole & Hearty If you’re looking for a clean, wholesome, good-smelling feed that supports healthy eggs and chickens, this is it. I keep chicken feed in the house since we’re in bear country, and this smells so good it makes me hungry.

It’s not dusty at all. The formula is like something most of us would do if we had time and energy to mix it ourselves. The chickens love it. Mine have only been laying a couple of weeks, but they’ve been on this feed about three weeks.

The first eggs are great. Very hard shells, beautiful shell gloss and golden/orange yolks. Delicious eggs and no broken yolks in the pan. The only con is it’s a little spendy, but not really for the quality.

The customer service is excellent as well. I had a question about calcium levels for roosters and it was answered carefully and thoroughly.

Good chicken feed but WAY too expensive hence 2 stars. Spending over $30 on 30lbs of feed isn’t too terrible if you’re wealthy & have money to throw away for a couple of fresh eggs or only have 1-3 chickens otherwise you’ll go broke feeding your flock.

Honestly you’d save money just buying the cage free eggs from the store 2 or 3 times a month over spending $30 on 30lbs of feed. I get 50lb bags of feed for $10-20.

I wish I could give this 5 stars, but my chickens do not care for the pellets in this feed. They eat other brands of pelleted feed, but not this kind for some reason. They eat all the other ingredients though and seem to love them.

I don’t know what it is about the pellets that they dislike. So no 5 stars because the price is too high when I consider the wasted pellets.

I am really, I really impressed with this feed! The only thing that I wish is that Farm and fleet carried the all flock maintenance version as well since I have non-layers in my flock. However, this mix is comprable or perhaps even better than Scratch N Peck brand that I had been getting for about twice the price.

It’s awesome that we can get this feed from Farm & fleet and also avoid the shipping costs by doing pickup in store or shopping in the store! My chickens and ducks absolutely loved it, and I’m really looking forward to also fermenting it during the summer months.

I would do it all year long because it reduces my feedbill significantly, but I just don’t have a warm place to do it through the cold months. I’ve even used this as a scratch grain because it’s just as delicious to the birds yet doesn’t bring down the calorie or nutrition value like some scratch mixes do.

When I mixed it into the Kalmbach layer pellets which are also fantastic by the way, the chickens would go for the grains first and then devour the pellets. They ate both very well, and I look forward to buying both.

The eggs we’re getting our amazing, strong shells, bright orange yolks, and great flavor. Again, the only thing I wish is that they carried the all flock version, but I’m very happy with this brand. Especially given that I had tried the cheaper Agrimaster all flock, but the low percentage of protein made our eggs very delicate.

The shells were totally fine, but the yolks would break almost every time.

Henhouse Reserve is unbelievable. Even older hens have once again started laying big beautiful eggs regularly. You’ll also feed less because it’s rich & satisfying. The entire flock (roosters, too) go crazy at feeding time.

Everyone’s feathers are glossy. My farm help inhaled the bag’s wonderful aroma & jokingly asked if I had any granola— they might dig in.

This is a beautiful mix of food, My chickens really love it and come running for it. They eat every bit of it, even the little pellets. It is quite a bit more expensive here at Chewy then my feed store though.

Which is just unfortunate, I really wished Chewy would lower the price $1 per pound for chicken food just seems crazy to me.

Used to feed my 6 girls their original layer mix- was “ideal” or so I thought as it had the mix of grains they like as well as the “micro-pellets” that seemed a good compromise between powdery crumbles and pellets so big they won’t eat.

Unfortunately, I found this “crumble” to have too many long “whole” pieces of pellets- at first thought that might be good as I mentioned so many other brands of crumbles end up with FAR too much “dust” that I then have to either waste or use to ferment food for them.

While most of the pellets in this crumble food will break up plenty easy enough and results in a perfect texture without too much “dust”, UNFORTUNATELY, there are VERY hard light colored pellets that can be quite long and are very difficult to break up- found myself having to actually use snippers to cut them up- WHAT a pain considering I was trying to get away from high maintenance for me with the original mix as my picky girls would not eat the whole oats or wheat- had to soak them or they just got knocked to the ground.

Ugh. haha Therefore this does not work for me as a stand alone food BUT I feel SO good about the quality of Grubblies feed that I decided to continue mixing into their new other brand crumbles handfuls of these crumbles and have set aside the majority including all the hard to break up pellets to ferment food for them that I mix seeds and grains they like and use as a “topper” over their food each am.

(hmmm- wonder how they ended up SO spoiled!! 😉 haha) Overall- if you don’t have picky chickens that will knock out the longer harder pellets on the ground then this is a super high quality layer feed- as is the original one! I’ve not had to waste it as they love the fermented results that this food makes up the majority of along with all the “dust” of their other crumble food that thankfully also has the BSFL as the protein source! LOVE them some Grubblies!!! Btw- company is great- very nice and took care of an issue we had with one bag of food quickly- great customer service!.

So far I’ve been very happy with the switch to Fresh Pecks! I had been using Purina Layena with my small backyard flock, full size hens age 1-6 years old. Looking for something with less filler, helping my older girls age beautifully, and of course helping with molt recovery and laying lots of gorgeous eggs! I started with the pellets but found that my hens made a huge mess by “picking out” the pieces that they wanted.

So much waste! BUT I contacted Grubbly Farms and they suggested the crumble. Same great ingredients, but all pieces look the same. Aha! What a great solution, and now no mess at all. I’m happy to support this company as well as give my fluff butts amazing nutrition that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

The use of grub protein over fish meal drew me to this brand as well as the mixture of pellets and whole grains. I was using Scratch and Peck, but the chickens wasted a lot of the dust/supplements. Figured this would be the right fit for us as long as the chickens accepted pellets (they’ve never had pellets before).

They did! We needed to do a gradual food transition as was recommended – the hens has loose poops when I tried to switch too soon – but that was on me for being too excited that the ladies enjoyed their new food so much.

After the food switch was done, poops were back to normal, and better than before with one of my ailing senior hens. This food ferments really well too! So yes we are all happy that we switched to this brand as it meets all our needs, my standards, and the hens love it.

Got this for my 3 year old Maltese who has gastritis. He can’t keep food down, but is able to keep this down. The pureed form seems to be easier on his digestion. Thankful it doesn’t have onions or anything else doggies shouldn’t have.

Wish they had organic ingredients though.

I bought these to give my dog who needed special food after an injury I mixed it with rice she loved it. The food smelled fine and seemed high quality I would definitely feed it to anyone who had an upset stomach and needed something mild.

The reason I chose this is because it is salt free unlike most baby foods. good stuff!.

I gave this to my little one as his Christmas dinner. He was thrilled. He ate it all up with giggles and laughs. He kept reaching out for the spoon and for more. I love the fact if Came in the plastic container so I didnt have to worry about glass.

I’m a little bummed they removed the lids. I use to love to reuse their containers for things. Or store unfinished food.

I use this to entice a few of my overzealous hens who fly out of the pen daily. The recognize the bag now. I have several different varieties of treats but this is by far their favorite. I highly recommend.

If you’re looking for a healthy good treat for your flock I highly recommend this product. My flock loved every bit of it.

Have two hens and introduced them to it tonight. They went crazy for it. Didn’t like the raisins but went after everything else. Nice size treats and I’m not sure if they ate the sunflowers that were shelled or broke them apart first.

Hope that isn’t a digestion issue later. They went after the treat so fast I couldn’t tell.

I have a little parrot who loves to chew. He gets really crazy with chewing in the spring so i bought him one of these and he loved it. But he ate the whole thing in a weeks time. He is now on a second one.

I wish they made these bigger since they are small blocks and parrots will chew this whole thing to dust within 1-2 weeks depending on the size of the parrot. I also got the vegetable version of this as well and he ate that one within a weeks time as well.

My bird loves it but sadly it only lasts a week. The time frame of this chew lasts 6-9 days at the most for my little parrot. I have a Senegal parrot if that helps. Not a big parrot at all and the block is the right size for his size but man i can’t believe he chews it to dust within a week.

I thought this would last a whole month since it seemed so hard on the outside but once he got passed the harder outer shell that poor chew block went super fast after that. This would work for the birds pictured on the package since they don’t chew as bad as parrots do.

If you have a parrot i would order at least 4 of these to get you through a month if your parrot is also going through that fun period of i have to chew everything in sight which seems to happen for my parrot every spring and late fall for some reason.

Maybe that’s normal for this type of parrot i don’t know. All i know is if he doesn’t have anything to chew on he will chew things he shouldn’t be chewing on like the cage and food bowls and the noise of that drives me crazy.

Lucky for me him chewing on this doesn’t make any noise and he is very happy now with the mineral block. I have a big parrot as well which is an Afrian gray parrot. This block lasted 3 days with him.

Not really the right mineral block for big parrots. I will look for a bigger one for him.

But not by me – my little persnickety lovebirds don’t care for it. I knew this in advance but chose to try it out on them anyway. So far, since I weaned them off seeds [it was tough and took weeks!], all they have been eating is pelleted food.

That’s it! And, dagnabbit, this mineral block would have been nutritious for them. I would recommend it to anyone with more adventurous birds when it comes to foods, but caution anyone with “fuss balls” like mine.

Maybe if I cut this mineral block down into a pellet shape and size. ?.

I’ve tried a few organic broths, & I either don’t like the flavor, or they cause an allergic reaction in me. The flavor of this is really excellent- perfect for any use. Nothing in the taste stands out too much (like onion, garlic, etc)- the chicken is the star.

perfectly balanced. I have many food allergies, & I don’t get any reaction from this. I keep my cupboard stocked with this, & Vitacost makes that very easy. Highly recommend this.

I have celiac and a corn allergy. Finding broths or stocks that will not make me ill is incredibly difficult. This one is not only safe for me to use, but actually tastes good. One comment I do have is that although it says it does not need to be diluted, the flavor is too strong for me by itself, so I do a ratio of 3/4 stock to 1/4 water when making soups.

I have tried most of the organic chicken broth brands out there. This is my personal favorite. It has a heartier flavor and best of all doesn’t contain any ingredients that bother my stomach.

I recieved this product from a sampling company. My youngest just turned one & suddenly wanted nothing to do with purees, but this was just textured enough for him to eat it. He did gag a couple times at the texture (he has done that with other purees as well), but he seemed to enjoy the taste.

We have one more little container of it, which I am sure he will eat. I like that it is a fruit and protein combination. All in all, it’s a good product.

Our mom got this for us, and it is delicious, healthy, and you should see the yolks of our eggs! We get it scattered in the big backyard twice a day, and we love looking for all the yummy, colorful, super nutritious grains, seeds, pellets.

Purchased this food after stumbling upon it on google. It definitely reminds me of a sweet feed for horses. Its a mix of all sorts of “treats” but still has the pellets of what they need for a full nutrition diet.

Trick is to not feed so much, if you continuously feed them new rations they pick out the “junk food” so i feed in the morning, and leave it be until the next morning, so at night they are forced to eat the heathy bits without getting more “treat” and this is the ONLY feed I give, I don’t supplement with anything else and still get good hard eggs.

I couldn’t find my parakeets food anywhere! While searching, petguys showed up in my feed with the food I needed. I was worried since I had never heard of them before. But I took a chance and had my order within about 5 days.

I will order again when I need to!.

I wouldn’t recommend this feed to anybody. My finches won’t touch it. Waste of $43. If I could, would give it a “0” star

This was my first time ordering from PetSupplies, I am satisfied with the product. Normally I buy the same item at a local pet store, but was beyond thrilled to see it online for a good price. I have never had a problem with the Sunseed products, I like the quality of the food.

I usually mix this seed mix with a pellet mix to balance out the diet.

I have buying these regularly for many years. They were my favorite vegetables! They used to contain nicely sized broccoli and cauliflower florets, and sliced carrots, and came in a bag with a huge transparent window on the front, so you could see the amazing quality of the vegetables.

Some years ago, they changed the packaging so you could no longer see inside. At the same time, they changed the recipe, they included that little square piece of broccoli stem in the picture on the bag.

This is the indication that the change is recipe was intentional. In addition to the florets, you get pieces of stems and stalks. At first it was only a pound or so of waste in the bag that would have to be thrown away.

More recently, about half the bag is pieces of stems that aren’t even suitable for animal feed. The quantities of the different vegetables has also deteriorated significantly. Recent bags have been mostly carrots, some cauliflower, and hardly any broccoli florets.

I won’t be purchasing again, but do let me know if you go back to the old recipe and quality control.

California blend is one of my favorite veggie combos to add to a simple stir fry for a very delicious and nutritious EASY weekday meal. Throw some white rice in the pressure cooker, brown some ground meat with some spices and soy/vinegar/ginger paste a bit of brown sugar if your feeling indulgent.

Nuke these veggies and you have a complete meal in MINUTES. these bagged veggies are a lifesaver for busy moms / or other adults who need a quick boost of vitamins and nutrients in their diet.

I love these frozen vegetables together. It’s broccoli, cauliflower and carrots frozen at their peak of freshness. I put them in a small, glass casserole bowl with a lid. I add them to the bowl, add in maybe a tablespoon or two of water, teaspoon of butter and a dash each of salt and pepper.

We like ours to still have that sort of fresh veggie snap so I only put it in maybe 5-7 minutes covered in the microwave. Cook time may vary with different watts. Highly recommend this mix from birds eye.

These chicken nuggets smell SO bad. The odor was so strong and horrific that I thought my microwave had broke (I’m a college student without a stove, options were limited). The taste is mediocre at best, and when I opened up the bag they smelled bad too – not just when I’d put them in the microwave.

It would smell up my entire dorm for quite some time following the cooking time. For the price, I’d choose something else because I was very disappointed with these nuggets (never had bad food from Perdue before).

Did I mention the vegetables?! No! Because I cannot tell there is any in these nuggets. When I think of Perdue chicken, I think of quality. These are moist, delicious, and have a very nice panko breading on them.

I air-fried mine, per the instructions on the bag and they came out perfect! Don’t hesitate because I didn’t either after reading the great reviews on these and my kids are picky about their nuggets as well as I am.

I would purchase this product again so please Target, continue to carry these in your store. I have found something great!.

I tried them before I gave them to my son and they basically have no taste. The breading is the only thing that has some taste. I figured that was fine because my two year old wouldn’t notice the vegetable difference…he took one bite and said this is so yuck.

He tried twice more and then refused to eat his lunch. He’s not a picky eater in general which is why I thought I would give these a shot.

These cans are the size of a typical tuna can, but they are only half full! The rest of the space is taken up by water. Don’t be fooled, the contents of the can may weigh 5 oz, but the actual chicken in the can is about 3 oz.

or less! The chicken itself is good, just pricey. I think I’ll just make my own organic chicken for chicken salad from now on. At more than $2. 85 per can, the product turns out to be very pricey.

Such a handy & versatile product. Quick lunch? Chicken salad. How about a chicken pasta salad? Need to add some protein to your soup? Add a can of this chicken including the liquid. So many ways to use this.

It’s always great to have some canned meats on hand for something quick to add protein to a dish or salad, but it’s really hard to find *organic* canned meats. Of course, it could be packed a little denser, but I’m pleased with this Simple Truth organic option.

Works great to throw on a salad, in a quesadilla, or add to an omelet – the quick meal uses are endless!.

These mixed veggies are extremely convenient and easy to use. There is completely no seasoning in these mixed veggies however, so there isn’t too much flavor, requiring you to put your own seasoning.

I would still recommend these veggies, because the price is amazing and it is very easy to just pop out of the freezer and throw it in a pan.

Birds Eye Mixed Vegetables taste fresh once cooked. I usually use their mixed vegetables in homemade chicken pot pie and homemade chicken and dumplings. I like the ease of just pouring the veggies straight into the pot and not having to worry about draining them like canned mixed veggies.

I stopped using vegetable oil completely in 2021, and replace butter as well with Natural Rendered Tallow(s) whenever possible. My Turkey stuffing is laced with this Chicken Fat, and my Turkey is coated with this fat (instead of butter), and the results are MAGICAL! The golden color of the Turkey is magnificent, and the stuffing has a previously unknown Silkiness that simply transforms an already great stuffing to a heightened level of perfection.

Tasty chicken fat! I am on the GAPS diet and this animal fat is tasty; it’s fun to switch off, I also ordered many other animal fats (besides pork fat… I don’t believe in consuming such an unclean animal…) besides that I am very glad epic had just great and healthy verities.

so happy I was able to find Chicken Fat online. chicken fat is not available where I live in Florida. It arrived in great shape and I used it that night to fry Matzah. reminded me of my mom’s fried matzah.
