20 Best Vegetables For Dehydrating (2022 Updated)

This unit has 5 trays plus a fine mesh sheet for herbs and one for fruit leather. The instructions state not to rotate trays and really there is no need. All 5 trays of product dry out evenly at the same time.

You can dry thickly sliced product because the trays stack at least an inch apart from each other. The fan is a bit louder but the air flow is very good, resulting in even drying and shorter drying times.

There is a raised lip at the bottom of the unit surrounding the opening where the fan is situated. The lip is 3/8 ths of an inch high lessening the chance of juice entering the inner workings. The trays fit nicely in a standard sized kitchen sink and are easily cleaned by a short soak followed by a rinse.

I’ve used my dehydrator every day for the past 2. 5 weeks to dehydrate tomato, potato, chives, garlic, and apple. It’s simple to use, digital reading gives temperature of your choosing and time left with Pause feature.

This is a smaller unit compared to other devices; if it is enough for your needs, I think you’ll love it. Some people have complained about the noise: I do not find it objectionable at all. I like the timer and temp controls, and the display: you know where you are anytime.

Right now I am drying a full load of apples: smells so good in the whole house! I advise you closely follow the indications in the manual, at least for your first runs: using time or temp values given for a different device might not be correct for your machine: it happened to me! The unit is lightweight and small, so it is easy to store away when not needed.

After reading other reviews, my expectations were quite high but I was a bit disappointed with the machine’s performance using the prescribed time and temperature settings. My hot peppers and apples were simply not drying enough even after doubling the time.

I ended up having to increase the temperature setting by 10 degrees F. Once I did that, the apples and peppers dried out satisfactorily. I have not tried to measure the actual temperature against the machine’s setting but am planning to do so in order to make the appropriate adjustments when I set the temperature.

I highly recommend this book for everyone. It is very well written and organized. It’s more of a ‘how to’ than a recipe book, which is what I wanted. It has a lot of pictures as well. I like that it is organized in A-Z fashion and everything about, let’s say, bananas is covered right there.

such as preparation, doneness test, yield, how to use the dried fruit/vegetable, different drying methods you can use, pictures of what the fruit/veg looks like fresh and dried, suggestion, storage, etc.

Prior to this one, I had purchased a different one (which turned out to be mostly recipes). This one will be a ‘go-to’ reference book for me.

I disliked the fact that about half the book is rehydrated recipes. I know what I want to make with dehydrated food. I just wanted more information on different ways, marinates, etc. , to use the dehydration system.

I liked the the ones I saw in the book but wanted more suggestions not finished recipes.

I really love this book. Good photos, concise information (not overly verbose), easy to use, great photos, well organized. The nice thing about dehydrating foods is, it saves space in your freezer for other things.

Overall it’s okay. I like the see through function. It’s small for the counter and looks nice. It works. Make certain you have the correct side UP! Trays won’t stack otherwise. What I don’t like is that the light for temperatures is only showing the lowest level despite turning it up to highest setting.

I have no way of knowing if it’s really heating at different temps. Remodel this accordingly. Big issue, trying to resolve and, if resolved, I will update. Your company doesn’t offer mesh mats that fit this model, all on line are too large so must be cut to size.

AND you do not make, apparently, no full silicone sheets with a lip for liquids and making fruit leather. Nothing on line that I can find will fit!! Amazon had lovely ones but are just a bit too large and you cannot cut down, because liquids will drip! So if you plan to dehydrate liquids, rethink this.

I really like this Gourmet Food Dehydrator! I have used it dry food but also to dry some clay crafts. Air flow is great and also love the temperature is easily adjusted – from 95 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit! When drying some of my crafts I can easily remove some of the racks for bigger pieces.

Figuring out this machine was so easy. Cleaning up is easy also. Works great, does not take up much counter space but it has good capacity at the same time. Also comes with 1 year warranty which is pretty important.

Great product for the price!.

i really love how you can adjust the temperatureso i can dehydrate the food at the right temperature and also has these hotizontal air that flows distributing the heaat evenly everytime. I can such a variety of healthy no added sugar snack which is perfect for my daughter who has to watch her sugar.

love how is can watch so i can watch as they dry out, plus my kids get to learn how it works dehydrating food. Its also versatile can make treats for you pets as well as dry flowers make your own potpourri which i plan on tryin or drying flowers.

As well as we tried the dough ornaments they came out well as long as jerky. i really love this alot.

I have used another brand of dehydrator for many years as I grow many tropical fruits in South Florida; I desire to preserve this produce for shipping to family and sharing with friends to have a healthy food option available; tho the unit is somewhat larger than my previous one, I have found the Sedona Supreme dehydratases evenly; I especially appreciate the wonderful timer feature and the bottom ‘tray’ for easy cleanup; I agree with other reviewers that the area for the top dehydrating tray has little ‘head’ space, but I figured out that I can move a tray of dragon fruit, mangos, bananas, etc.

after a day of dehydrating as the fruits have, by then, lost some height, and the tray will easily fit in the top area; then I have another open area to place another tray of freshly cut flowers, soaked nuts, etc.

in a lower area; even with the unit running 24/7 at 115 degrees for several months, I didn’t have any issues! I am very pleased with my purchase and the overall quality of how it preserves my organic, home grown produce!.

There are two reasons I am not giving this product a 5-star rating, one of which is not the fault of Tribest or Sedona. We simply do not fully understand how this thing works yet. I think we have to go back to the website that originally convinced us to buy this product and watch the video again.

The second reason, I did not give this product a 5-star rating was because we were hoping to make Korean natto soybean cakes in the food dehydrator. However, the shelves would not support the weight of the natto cakes because they are too thin and the shelf rails are made of plastic.

We did think of a workaround that may work. We would have to get a thin aluminum sleeve from a machine shop that is the thickness of the distance between the bottom shelf and the tray bottom and another aluminum sleeve with a sufficient thickness to allow an offset between the first shelf and a second shelf.

Those support sleeves would sit in the middle of the device to provide support for the shelves while the natto cakes (2 on each shelf) are drying. I think that may work, but we have to become much more proficient at using this machine first.

We eat a large amount of dried foods and jerky, but it’s hard to find really pure commercially-made jerky that my family can eat due to food allergies, etc. I was a bit hesitant about buying a dehydrator that had zero reviews, but boy am I glad I did.

I have an old dehydrator that my mom and dad gave me years ago that is just a bit pathetic in how long it takes. My smoker takes quite a while also. The Tribest Sedona ADC-S101-B is fast, accurate, easy-to-use and well worth the price.

My first batch of jerky, I made four flavors with about 10 ½ pounds of meat sliced to 1/8. I was able to fit about 8 pounds of it in one batch, using all 9 shelves, with some free space. (I was dividing the batches by flavor.

) After the 8-pound 9-shelf batch, I did the last three pounds or so spread over three shelves spaced out in the dehydrator. The first large batch was fully dehydrated with one hour on Fast at 154 degrees and four hours on Raw at 120 degrees.

The second smaller batch was fully dehydrated with one hour on Fast and three hours on Raw. Quite a bit of difference from my usual batches of 12 hours in my smoker. Those are my results living in semi-arid high-altitude area.

My next experiment will be three different types of green beans, with my old dehydrator taking a couple of days to dry. I expect the Tribest Sedona to dry them in an hour, maybe two maximum. Overall, this dehydrator is very easy to use if you walk through the instructions once.

The controls will be a bit baffling otherwise. I do wish the top shelf wasn’t so close to the top of the dehydrator. You have to put it in very carefully and make sure you have very thinly sliced foods on it.

That said, I do all meats at 1/8”, so they fit easily. Vegetables may be a different story. I contacted the company asking why the shelf was so close and they basically responded that it was to save space.

Despite my misgivings about the lack of space for the top shelf, everything on it dried just as quickly as that on all the other shelves. My other concern was that the metal of the shelves seems to be an average stainless steel, rather than a super high quality.

The company asks you to hand-wash the shelves and not put them in a dishwasher. I’m going to find some large-hold silicone mesh mats to put down to help keep the trays clean. With the plain shelves, I am spraying them with canola oil to help the jerky not to stick.

I found the temperatures to be very accurate, testing it with wired thermometers. The variance of temperature between the top and bottom of the dehydrator was 4 degrees. The company recommends that you rotate the shelves to make sure everything dries evenly, and I did that once during the large batch.

It dried so evenly that I don’t think I’ll bother with rotating the trays in the future. I made four flavors of jerky with this: biltong, teriyaki, yukpo (Korean wedding gift), and Thai. They all came out dried to an awesome texture with great flavor.

I’m very pleased with this dehydrator. It’s made making jerky SO much easier. I will be getting a lot of use out of it.

I’ve had this machine for a few months now. I’m in love with the machine so far. It’s so quiet, the controls are intuitive, and I am very pleased with the capacity of the unit. Maybe if each tray could have just a tinge more clearance between the rows, it would be absolutely perfect.

I find that it’s quite tight between the rows. It dries herbs and greens amazingly well. No more waiting weeks/months air drying my herbs! I’m learning how to dehydrate all sorts of things, as well as learning how handy dehydrated items are to have on hand.

adding dehydrated blueberries, apples, or bananas to a trail mix, for example. Having a dehydrator on hand will see much less wasted produce for sure. The only thing I am not sure how to accomplish with this machine is dehydrating powders.

I wish there was a “tray” available with walls. Not having a tray option makes blueberries, raspberries, or anything that will roll a bit of a challenge. Trays are also helpful for powders. I’ve been learning how to, for example, make homemade garlic powder, onion powder, etc.

This is an amazing dehydrator! You can set it for Raw, Fast or Combo mode. This can give you a quick jump start, especially when you completely fill the dehydrator up with a lot very high moisture content foods.

Make sure you don’t set the individual temperatures to high or you run the risk of case hardening the food which is not a good thing. There are things you can do to save case hardened food But it is better to keep your temps slightly lower and avoid dealing with it.

Other great feature is to set temp in 1 degree incraments, the option of F or C and the ability to set the timer all the way to 99 hours. After all the last thing you want is for it to shut off in the middle of the night and you don’t find it until numerous hours later.

I have not had any problems or issues with my dehydrator and I use it a lot!!! I wouldn’t hesitate to by it again.

I have not dehydrated anything yet, but I did run temperature testing on the unit when it first arrived. It got up to 165 degrees and maintained temperature very accurately. The fan blade was not balanced in my unit though.

I noticed it vibrated quite a bit. Although not a problem, I contacted the company, and per my request, they sent me another fan blade for it right away. I was concerned that repair parts might not be available, but their customer service was great, and you can get any parts needed to fix this down the road.

It also has a 10 year warrantee to begin with. Came with the stainless trays and stainless drip tray, and is also very quiet. Their competitors would have charged way more to get the same features as this unit.

I researched a bunch of different manufacturers before deciding on this unit. I love it, and recommend it to all.

I brought the Sedona Combo Food Dehydrator with BPA-Free Plastic Trays. I rarely used it but used it off and on for a few years and than the main chip board became defective and was sent multiply parts to try and fix which never worked properly.

The door seems to have had poor design as the latches broke a few times needing replacement. My unworking sedona Dehydrator is siting in my garage since 2019 and has not worked since. once the warranty expired, noone answers my emails anymore, its sad but true, I will never buy one of these again.

In a different case, I would have love to purchase one of those stainless steel ones as well but I will probably look elsewhere due to lack of response.

After using for several years, cons outweigh the pros. Pros limited to programmable controls over the Excalibur brand. However the cons are multiple. 1 – limited spacing between shelves results in any food that tends to curl during drying will get caught, requiring fewer shelves to be used, lowering efficiency.

2 – Excessive thickness of standard plastic shelves reduces usable vertical space for drying. 3 – Air flow through standard plastic shelves is restricted and their higher relative thermal mass increases drying times over Excalibur.

4 – Standard plastic shelves are very difficult to clean due to deep honeycomb pattern on back side of the shelves. 5 – Top of door tends to get stuck when attempting to close the door due to warpage along bottom hinge.

Overall, I still prefer my 5 shelf Excalibur over the Sedona.

Delivered quickly, very well packaged. It is simple and easy to use, works quietly, dries quite quickly. We dried figs and pears. We are very pleased with the result. Anyone who cares about their health simply must have such a dryer.

Do NOT waste your money on this!!! I put small herbs on the 6 trays for 8 hours. No change whatsoever. Took three trays out and put three with just thyme on them. The tiniest herb imaginable. after over 16 hours, they weren’t even close to being dry.

Oregano the same. small leaves, 16 hours and barely any change from when I put them in.

Great dehydrator at an awesome price. Just purchased a few weeks ago. Have done apples, peaches, nectarines and an assortment of herbs. Compact size is great for storage. The only complaint i could possibly have is the noise.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Dual time and temperature settings so I didn’t have to babysit my fruit. I love the three different temperature settings. It’s relatively compact considering the amount of food I can dry at one time.

I love the clean design of the machine so I can leave it on my counter and not worry. So glad I made the investment.

This is the greatest dehydrator for the home kitchen! First, its compact size makes it easy to fit in the home kitchen. Second, the TST function, which is utilized on most recipes, means that you do not have to monitor or set alarms for the temperature change to occur.

Third, this is a very quiet machine.

Unto itself this is a fine affordable scale. It appears accurate. – Sync with the app is almost right. Must turn on the app, wake up the scale, select and accept a reading and then the data transmits.

Should be fewer steps. – If you accidentally do not accept a reading in VeSync then it is gone forever. Not totally horrible but requires a reset on the scale to fix. But it demonstrates an ability to purge unwanted data, so that is good.

– Sync with Healthkit is an additional step and presents an issue. The VeSync app gathers six readings for each weighing, each identical in size and date/time stamp but shows these as a single reading in VeSync.

When sync with Apple Health, all 6 readings are uploaded through HealthKit. Deleting extra readings in Apple Health is temporary because they are re-uploaded on next sync. It seems that purging this unwanted data is not possible.

So, as a scale it is fine. The VeSync app looks good. As an Apple Health integrated device it is a barely pass. If that is your goal, look elsewhere.

These have good flavor and are a fair product, but I had expected less use of the leaves in a product labeled as crosscut celery. However, the actual label on the product does not say cross cut, even though the webpage description is thus.

I shall be more mindful of this going forward.

I have not used the celery yet but am so glad that it is dehydrated and won’t go bad as quick as celery in the fridge. I always have to buy a stalk when I need it but then the rest goes bad quickly. Now I don’t have to worry about that!.

Very satisfied with the dehydrated leeks. They are serving the purpose of flavoring my “pantry only” menu during COVID19 . Leeks rock!

Been trying some of these Augason products, especially with perishables that’s difficult to store, either due to humidity; or freezing as the only alternative to prevent spoilage. Pleasantly surprised by these onions as they’re v-e-r-y flavorful.

Wasn’t expecting them to be as powerful, that a pinch of it can literally flavor a 4oz can worth of tuna. Fresh onions require about 1/2 of a medium onion to equal the strength of about a sugar pack sized amount of these onions, and without the cutting and cleaning fuss.

Can say a #10 can of this will be more than enough for a couple people to use every day for a month. The flavor is very good, and best of all, using this no salt is needed. So salt free cooking without using salt-free alternatives nor it’s weird taste — DASH diets are so bland they n-e-e-d the flavor.

Certainly better than the dehydrated bulk onions in grocery stores that are flavorless once opened. This will be a keeper on our shelves. The possibilities of this as a flavor aid are endless, especially in dishes that taste horrible as low salt — here’s looking at you chicken and potatoes!.

I don’t have to go to the store for this product. So I don’t get sick! It will last me a year once opened. Or I can put it on a shelf for over 24 years and then use it. If you want only the best. Augason farms , over 400 shelf stable foods.

Carrots are really needed in a long term pantry in the event of an emergency. We need the vitamin C and other nutrients in carrots. I have noticed that Canned carrots are not in stock as they used to be.

I tried for weeks on end to get canned carrots from Walmart. I also bought fresh regular carrots to chop up and dehydrate. If you do not have the right equipment to do the job quickly then you will be chopping all day long.

Walmart had the best price of any place when it comes to buying the Augason Farms dehydrated carrots. Walmart was even cheaper than the Augason Farms website. These carrots are still selling at a good price so you may want to get them while you can.

I enjoy dehydrating produce myself But when I need help I know I can depend on Walmart.

I started my “Armageddon Closet” several years ago and built up the emergency food supplies little by little. Today we have enough foods and varieties of entrees, breakfast foods, canned, meats & veggies, and dehydrated or freeze dried food supplies to last several of us a few months.

When society collapses we can just stay put without having to venture outside until law and order are restored. These Augason Farms products are great compliments to that supply because of their ease of preparation and very long shelf life.

We opened the scrambled eggs mix of theirs to try them out prior to being stuck in the middle of a disaster or emergency situation. They’re easy to prepare and the taste was remarkably very good. I’m sure all of the Augason Farms products are just as reliable.

They make a great compliment to our prepping collection of emergency foods.

Very Strong and Very Bitter! I used only half of what recipe called for due to other reviews here. I thought I would give it a try, but it really does RUIN a whole dish of what you add it to. I made a test run of chicken soup and had to throw it out it was that bad! Hopefully I can return the product.

I also purchased the carrots and those where fine. Celery UGH!.

A list down the left side of the page has ingredients in used order. The numbered instructions are easy to follow in paragraph form. Storage and various tips are at the bottom. ~ Why ~ I was delightfully impressed with this book in how thoroughly it covers dehydrating food.

I like that it not only shows how to use a dehydrator but also contains trouble-shooting tips on vegetables, curing salt on meats, vegetarian options, making perfect chips and leathers, meal kits, and soaking nuts and seeds.

Some of the interesting recipes that caught my eye are apricot-fennel-mint tea, madras curry spice mix, bourbon-glazed venison or elk jerky, glazed salmon candy, green smoothie leather, crispy garlic kale, chicken cacciatore hunter stew, sweet and savory rice pilaf, spicy cauliflower crisps, and raw apple-zucchini carrot bread.

~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a dehydrator or like to dry their own food may not have any interest in this read. Others may not realize how many different kinds of foods can be hydrated and rehydrated.

~ Wish ~ Being a visual person, I wish there were colored photographs of some of the dishes, knowing that many may look the same when dried. Adding caloric information to the recipes would be helpful for those who watch their diet.

~ Want ~ If you want to know more about dehydrating food and recipes including it, this is an excellent source because it is concise, full of information, and easy to use. Thanks to Callisto Publisher’s Club and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

I am that person who is afraid to can, afraid I will botulize the whole family. We were gifted a dehydrator several years ago, and purchased a second one. I had mostly dried herbs and apples, but always wanted to do so much more.

The books that came with the dehydrators didn’t contain a lot in the way of recipes. I am so excited to now have 125 dehydrator recipes in Complete Dehydrator Cookbook. The book gives important information on storage of dehydrated food, troubleshooting, and rehydrating, among many other topics.

In addition to the instructions I had expected for dehydrating fruits, veggies, meats, I was happy to find recipes for flavored teas, aromatic powders, seasoning blends, and recipes for which my dehydrated foods were ingredients.

I am looking forward to utilizing this means of storing our garden produce, items from the farmers’ market, and seasonal items from the local grocery. The cookbook is well organized, clearly written, and includes an interesting variety of recipes.

So many new ideas about food to dehydrate. I started to dehydrate fruits years ago. This book gives me lots of food to try. Love it!

I’ve been running this steady for about a week and a half, making fruit leather from last year’s apple sauce from our tree, and drying herbs from our garden. It does take a bit of trial and error to get the drying times and temperature setting just right, but I was expecting this, and once you figure it out, it’s very consistent.

I’d give it a 5/5 if it came with an extra fruit leather sheet and extra herb rack. The machine is capable of doing two sheets of either at once, but the spare sheets/racks are currently unobtanium.

This is a great starter dehydrator. I’m in love. I love making myself apple chips. Strawberry slices, blueberries – so fun to try all the fruits for granola and camping. I have tried to make fruit roll ups a couple times, super easy (mango, strawberry, and strawberry banana).

Dehydrated kiwi are my favourite treat so far. I love dehydrated spicy peppers to make your own special salts (Great for gift ideas too). Dehydrated whole Chilis have been awesome – then I’ll use my blender and make my own spice powders.

Max temp is 165 F – which I’ve experimented for my apple chips to speed up the process – slightly crisp. I heard about dehydrated guacamole and tried that, but it didn’t seem to work, very gross, don’t try!.

We use this to make venison Jerky. It works fantastic! It does have enough room for now but if you are going to make bigger batches you will need another humidifier or just do small batches. It does have a price but its not unreasonable for what you are getting and using it for.

You make better product than you can buy. Just takes time to do your own.

This dehydrater is great if your just starting out. I wanted to start dehydrating my own food and didn’t know where to start. It is really simple to use and even comes with trays for smaller items and to make for fruit leather.

The trays are easy to clean and have not warped or been stained. I have made numerous batches of beef jerky and apple chips. I have made banana chips too but they take extra long (over 8 hours).

A little goes a long way. The flavor is excellent, and you can add other vegetables, meats, flavorings or whatever to this. I have a soup on the stove right now and I added spaghetti sauce, zucchini, chopped smoked sausage, onion powder and cocoanut oil.

It smells divine. I did one with added cabbage, onions, chuck roast and potatoes. You can’t add the wrong things. It’s low carb, low sodium, low fat and vegetarian. What’s not to like?.

Love this! Great to have! Going to buy more! The dried veggies are excellent to have in my pantry; Especially during these times of covid.

If this came in anything but this bag I would have given it 5 *. I don’t like the bag. The roduct is okay. I like the Mother Eart vegetable blend better. Just okay.

When I first saw the Mixed Vegetables for Stew, I thought I probably wouldn’t use them because I grow a large garden. I purchased a few cans and now I wish I had bought a few cases. Stews and soups, of course, but they are also great for pizza toppings, spaghetti sauce, homemade hand pies (like hot pockets), mixed in with mashed potatoes to make it a meal rather than a side dish, and I’ve even used them for filling in mini savory tarts for home movie snacks (kid’s request) and for an extender to make taco meat go further.

The little Grandkids love the taste. So do I! It has so many uses. The contents of the can lasts a long time.

Bought 12 of these a couple months ago. Groceries so high priced now so busting into my storage. Tried this today, made with chicken broth and a little chili powder for flavoring. Pretty good! Will use tomato base next.

Will use for other recipes. Good product. Very nourishing. Your service is also very fast, even with supply chain crisis. I use three companies, but so far, you are the best.

I’ve stored my Emergency Essentials #10 cans as recommended. Some are within 3-5 years of shelf life because I stupidly didn’t use them and rotate stock. So I opened the Mixed Vegetables for Stew (purchased 2008-2010) and found the quality too far gone to use.

Very disappointing but my own fault I guess. Just learn from my experience; I’m sure they were delicious at some earlier point in time – all the Emergency Essentials foods are very good quality to begin with.

IT WAS RATHER QUIET WHICH MADE IT HARD TO TELL IF IT WAS ON/ OFF. THE TRAYS STACK EASILY TO MAKE TALLER OR SMALLER. I ONLY USED IT ONE TIME BUT NOT FOR COOKIES UT TO MAKE BANANA CHIPS, STRAWBERRY BITS AND PINEAPPLE CHUNKK.

THEY TOOK 3 DDAY TO DRY OUT AND WERE STILL SOFT TO THE TOUCH. UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE OF MY TIME RESRICTION, THEE WAS NO WAY I COULD RISK LOSING 3 DAYS FOR AN ORDER. I MISSED MY RETURN DEADLINE.

I purchased this product in-store 07/28/21 and really liked the concept of this particular model. Today, 07/30/21, I used it for the first time to dehydrate some bell peppers. Something quick and simple.

Everything started out fine, but by the end of the drying cycle, the fan started making a really loud noise and does not stop unless I turn the motor/fan part upside down (or unplug, of course). I was not even able to finish the first batch.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I’ve already got veggies sliced for my next batch, and I guess I’m gonna have to brave this new round of covid tomorrow to return it. Is Walmart even taking returns? I could ship to the manufacturer, but they will make me pay for shipping.

Grrr Side note-the dehydrator I purchased had the fan/motor mount on top, but is the same make and model-Presto Dehydro(TM) Electric Food Dehydrator 06300.

I chose this dehydrator over another by Presto because it has adjustable temperatures and a timer built in. Typically, the more complex electronics are built into something, the quicker it is to break down, but I wanted to vary temperatures and to be able to set a timer.

So far I have dehydrated Poblano peppers and tomatoes to good effect. The dehydrator works well and it stores easily. The directions that come with it are clear. Just a warning, the machine is not silent.

There is a constant noise, but I imagine that is true of any dehydrator. The way they work is to pump warm dry air through the space and thus take the moisture out of whatever you are dehydrating. That involves pumping air, and that necessitates sound.
