20 Best Veggie Breakfast Sausage (2022 Updated)

My job has ben busy enough lately that some days I haven’t had time to stop and prepare lunch, so I’m getting by on whatever I can eat with one hand while catching up with emails. Both the Picnicker and Mild Jumbo Viana vegan sausages are tasty and convenient and provide a 15 gram protein boost.

I used to also like Primal Sticks (like a vegan slim jim) for this purpose before they got discontinued, but these “snausages” are a more substantial source of lean protein. I’m not vegan but eat a lot of plant based ‘meat’.

Worth a try!.

I like these sausage snacks, but wonder if the manufacturer has ever opened one? You’ll need scissors or a knife, and whatever you use will come away wet and sticky. It will drip all over your pants, shirt, desk, chair, etc.

I’d hate to have to open one of these in a car, or in a public place, or (GASP) on a date! They need to be opened over a sink, with plenty of paper towels, running water, gloves, etc. Then clean yourself up before eating.

Oh, don’t forget to wipe up the floor, or your feet will leave sticky prints wherever you go for a few minutes. Prepare! :-).

The item itself is flavorful and has an interesting texture but I’m writing this review because that plastic packaging is incredibly problematic. I had to use scissors and even the scissors had trouble getting through.

I couldn’t get it open with my teeth, it wouldn’t separate at any corner; it was actually a hassle – unlike any other food product I’ve ever tried to open. I wouldn’t be able to bring this on a trip unless I had a sturdy pair of scissors with me.

Just as chicken is not supposed to look and taste like beef, and beef is not supposed to look and taste like pork, and pork is not supposed to look and taste like chicken–are you getting the picture?–tofurky is not supposed to look and taste like chicken, turkey, beef, pork, lamb, or veal (which is really just young beef).

It is supposed to look and taste like another kind of meat–namely, the meatless kind. Tofurky Italian Sausages taste great, because they’re loaded with spices, and generally have the same kind of texture that meatful meat has: You can cut them up into small pieces that you add to salads, mashes, hashes, casseroles, porridges, soups, and stews, you can slice ’em into halves and stick ’em into sandwiches, and you can slice ’em the other way and put ’em on pizzas.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, I was in a supermarket: It was when ground turkey had just come out. As I was making my selection of some ground turkey, a bystander said to me, “What do you do with it?” I said, “First, you make some burgers, then you cook the burgers, then you eat the burgers.

My family uses these just right but not too spicy sausages in big rolls for 4th of July with trimmings (or any time), cut in coins with spaghetti, so good with eggs, goes with just about any sauteed veggies.

Top chili or Mexican beans with it, zings up the flavor. The ingredients are healthier than many veg meat alternatives, too. Vital wheat gluten and tofu are excellent protein sources Not super “processed”, no engineered ingredients.

Horrendous. I’ve tried a lot of vegetarian/vegan products in my life, so it’s not like I’m unused to meatless options. This “sausage” had a very bizarre flavor that I couldn’t quite identify, but I know I disliked it very much.

The texture was also horrible and it kinda looked like poop too. I almost never waste food, but threw half the package away. I had chopped the sausage up and mixed it in with pasta and marinara, but it totally ruined the meal.

Ive been working in restaurants for 15 years. I’m open to all sorts of food and I eat meat EVERYDAY. That said, I look for potentially healthier options. Most of the time meat-less items like soy based sausage or beef do not taste even close to real meat.

I purchased this yesterday, had it with some scrambled egg whites and cheese and it was delicious. A very good substitute for real sausage. I will make this a staple in my kitchen. This will work with pasta and clams and even on pizza with peppers and cheese.

Really tasty product.

My youngest (meat eating) son loves these sausages with his breakfast. Although the flavor is good I am not a fan of the texture. It’s hard for me to explain the texture but it seems a bit gummy? It definitely throws me off when I make these as sausage patty’s.

However, if you were to cook these in smaller chunks and really get a nice crisp to the outside the texture improves. It can also be a bit messy to prepare as it’s a bit sticky. But overall I think this is a decent sausage alternative.

I’ve been eating this sausage for years it’s very good. It says versatile as meat sausage. You can formed into patties, links, or crumble it into whatever dish you want. It’s perfectly seasoned, not overly spiced.

I have a hard time getting in enough protein. Having this available makes it a lot easier for me to hit my goal.

So good, and although it isn’t low sodium, it has less sodium than most brands and I appreciate that. Flavor is great, texture too! We eat this all the time now that I have discovered it. Would have goven 5 stars if sodium was lower, just based on taste, texture and versatility.

These particular vegan Italian sausage are really good they are very filling. They also have a nice little Zing I don’t think it’s probably too spicy for most people it’s really not like a spicy hot it’s more what we would refer to as zesty they don’t skimp on the herbs and spices so it gives it more of an authentic taste from what I can remember of eating real meat.

They cook up very well they do have a moderate amount of oil within them so you shouldn’t need to add oil even if you put them in like a ninja on the bake cycle they have enough oil in them that it Cooks out and doesn’t allow for them to burn I found.

I would recommend these if you are wanting more plant-based in your diet or if you’re curious and your veggie/ vegan like I am.

These are my favorite vegetarian brats/hot dogs. Nothing else comes close to the flavor and texture these have! I love pan frying these sausages and adding caramelized onions on top. It’ll make you never miss meat brats again.

I recently tried the hot italian version too and while it was good for certain dishes, the originals are what I keep stocked.

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR YOU MY WHOLE VEGANISM!!!! If you were from the Midwest, you know what thing or two about brats. Throughout my many years of vegetarian/veganism I have thoroughly missed the taste/texture of brats.

There are several “brat” turn it is but none of them had that crispy texture of a prop. Finally, Beyond Meat has created an incredible brat alternative!! The flavor is incredible but the texture is white thoroughly won me over.

This product has a “casing“ very similar to brats, so when you bite into it you get that crisp snap you would get as if you were biting into a brought.  I have fallen in love with this product and will definitely be adding it to my grocery list.

With summer being here I am so grateful I found this product and would recommend it to literally anyone! Throw this product on the grill or sizzle them up on a skillet, either way you are going to love it.

Love putting these on the BBQ before adding them to the spaghetti and sauce. Very delicious meatless vegetarian and vegan sausage. One of our favorites for pasta night. We purchased this at Whole Foods.

Beyond Meat is such a fantastic brand, and these have to be the best plant-based sausages I have found to date! They feel very similar to the real thing, and have definitely makes being a vegetarian much easier.

The flavor is great and works well on their own, in pasta, or to use in place of sausage in other dishes. A must-have for someone who’s plant-based (or someone looking to add more plants into their diet).

The only downfall is they are pricey compared to meat-based products, but I’m sure prices will come down in the future.

I really wanted to hate these because the ingredients are not the best haha. Alas. I could not 😔 This brand is honestly the best meat sub I have ever had. These sausages are 🔥🔥🔥 along with their burgers breakfast patties.

I do buy these on occasion, or when on sale (pretty pricey products) which is ok, since they are not healthy to eat often But overall if the health aspect doesn’t bug you. I would DEFINITELY try their line of foods.

Cooked these and grilled veggies on the BBQ tonight. They were so good. They are the best plant based sausages I have tried (the other ones were kinda like a cardboard texture and not as tasty). They BBQ nicely and are like the real thing.

Juicy like a sausage that drips and the flames go up. I went vegan in January and don’t regret it. I’m looking forward to trying this brands burgers.

As a vegan of 6 years, this is my favorite fake meat product by far. To me, it is indistinguishable from real meat, and my meat eating friends all love it as well. It has the perfect amount of spice/flavor, and is easy to cook.

It does not cook like real meat though so make sure to not overcook it or else it will become very tough. It is great in buns, in pastas and sauces, in sheet pan meals. Highly recommend!!!.

My husband turned me onto this product since I am a vegan. Not one to lurch for fake meat, I was skeptical at best. We took these on a camping trip and I was shocked!! at the flavor and texture of the sausage.

It was amazing. I was delightfully surprised–so much so that I’ve ordered since a few times. It will be a prize treat at my Christmas breakfast. The only downside I’ve noticed is the sodium content is 25% of the DV.

I haven’t felt it tasted too salty, but my body said otherwise. It took a week or so to get the water retention down. I can’t blame the sausage 100% so I won’t count that against it. It’s a hard balance for manufacturers to get the sodium high enough that it is palatable for most taste buds but low enough that it doesn’t spike blood pressure patients.

I get it, Field Roast. You’re great in my book. Please give this a try on your next plant based adventure. You will be pleasantly surprised, I’m sure.

Delicious! We tried these vegan sausages tonight for dinner and really enjoyed them. They cooked up much more like a real meat sausage, not dry and crumbly like some other plant based links. The apple flavor really came through, and they were very juicy.

I also like that there are more than 20 grams of protein per serving. Will definitely buy these again!.

As someone who loved sausage once upon a time – in pasta, on pizza, with peppers and onions, on a bun with mustard- going vegan was a heck of a time. Are these a 1 for 1 dupe? No, of course not – but they’ve got the right vibe, which is really what it’s all about.

Solid texture, solid spices, and they slice well without turning to crumbs (cough, cough, looking at you other brands. ) The packaging doesn’t feel especially earth friendly to me, they’re wrapped in kind of a weird skin you have to peel off that mat or may not be plastic (genuinely unsure) with a metal thing at each end, and linked all together like you see in cartoons, so that’s not ideal.

I do sort of wish they’d change that, because it’s kind of a nightmare to unpackage them, but they’re worth it.

I picked some of this up yesteday and made some enchiladas. My husband absolutely loved them – he couldn’t even tell that it was vegan. He thought it was regular chorizo! And best of all – this product is made with ingredients I actually felt good about eating.

No soy, no other fillers or additives. Win win! I’ll definitely be making this a regular in our household – tacos next time!.

I I will admit that I was a bit skeptical at first. Since I have a tried many other different vegan products and it just leaves that weird aftertaste in your mouth. But I found this vegan chorizo to be very delicious great spices no weird aftertaste and just a really good flavor I will definitely buy this again.

This has great flavor and you can barely tell it’s not meat. I can get 3 meals out of this little box for myself which is great! I eat it on French fries, as taco meat, nachos mmmmmm so good. I do add a little extra seasoning for my preference but you don’t really need too.

So versatile for pasta. I’m not vegetarian but I’ve never been a fan of meatballs. These are incredible ingredients and the nutrient profile exceeds my expectations from a vegetarian substitute, with adequate protein.

I usually make with a high protein pasta but they’re amazing also with ravioli, flour noodles, vegetable or gluten free noodles. I make these several times a week they’re a staple and packed with veggies and fiber too.

I make on the stove top in a sauté and they are fast to cook in under 10 minutes, I can meal prep a variety of dishes for the week. Amazing in spaghetti dishes, cream sauces, buttered noodles, and more.

These are tasty and easy to prepare! They work great as a sausage on a bun meal and at BBQs. But they are also great in casseroles, pasta and rice dishes etc. They are an excellent sub for meat sausages that are part of the meat industries violent filled, unhealthy, and damaging to the planet products.

My sons love these! We highly recommend them!.

I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5, because black pepper is not listed as a separate ingredient, so it is, presumably, among the “spices” at the end of the list. So I was surprised to discover that it was somewhat peppery, which I do not like.

Other than that it’s pretty good, much better than the apple flavor.

I started buying these a couple of months ago and at first, I was amazed. They seemed as close to the real thing as I’d ever had. The “casing” got nice and crispy when I cooked them on the stovetop and they had a nice subtle spice.

I eat these sorts of things most mornings so I was really happy to have another veggie sausage option. Then I ordered more — a few boxes — and all was well until I got to the last box. The most frustrating thing was they were suddenly sticking to the pan no matter how little or how much oil I used (and I was using the same exact type of oil).

The texture of the filler was also weird, and that casing that had crisped up was no longer. Whatever magic they had originally was gone. Because it was just one box out of several, I went ahead and got more of these yesterday.

Well, I had my first of the new order today and they were still … not good. Not sure I will be ordering more of these after this, I’ll go back to Field Roast or try some sausage patties. Too bad, they were really good before they made whatever changes they made I see the company has commented here and said they haven’t changed their recipe.

Sorry, I just don’t buy that. Something changed. Products don’t go from cooking up flawlessly to sticking to the pan throughout the cooking process without there being some change. The product is obviously quite different, and I see years-long customers here saying the same.

As someone who doesn’t eat much meat and tries to avoid actual sausage at all cost, these are a life saver!! Do they taste exactly like meat sausage? No! But that’s because they’re not!! I still love the taste of these as they do taste very similar but I don’t feel absolutely grossed out eating them! (like i do normal meat sausage) The taste takes a few bites to get used to, I made mine in the air fryer, and I paired it with a hash brown and a blueberry muffin! Super filling and tasty! I’m used to getting the maple “sausage” patties from this brand but I think I like these more!.

These aren’t bad. Considering the ingredients, I’m not sure what kind of healthy alternative this is. It’s not vegan or GF (I’m neither) and at what point do you stop trying to imitate stuff with a bunch of non food additives.

I’ve chopped and thrown into frittatas and scrambles, eaten as a side and can’t really figure out why if you’re staying away from animal products this checks any box. If I want a savory sausage substitute, I’d rather make my own mushroom crumbles seasoned appropriately.

The only selling point is it looks like a sausage link. Not enough for me.

I don’t miss eating pork at all with these Beyond Breakfast Sausages. They’re that good! I love the spicy and non-spicy version of these. Make sure to keep them frozen right up until you cook them, because they thaw quickly when out of the freezer.

They don’t cook the same once they start to thaw on the counter. They stick to the pan and the consistency isn’t the same that way. I cook them on medium heat. I use a stainless steel pan, and I’ve found they burn on medium-high heat with that pan.

They cook quickly either way. The spices are so delicious in these, and I love that they’re plant based.

I am not vegetarian nor vegan but trying to use meat substitutes as much as possible. I try not to compare meat substitutes to the “real” thing – that just sets you up for failure. I haven’t liked many of the BM products I’ve tried but these are AMAZING! If prepared properly the texture is great and they are just a tad spicy – for me I could stand for them to have a bit more spice but for most people it’s probably the right amount.

Nutritionally they’re definitely not as “healthy” as the turkey sausage I would eat otherwise but if that wasn’t a consideration I would eat them every day. Be sure to follow the cooking instructions on the package!.

The texture is off. There’s too much fennel. And it can cause digestive upset. The beyond sausages are nothing in comparison to the Impossible sausage. If you want something that tastes like sausage, if not even better than real sausage.

You need to try Impossible sausage.

I really wanted to like these more than I actually did. The Ultimate Chick’n Filet was outstanding so I had high hopes for these because I love veggie breakfast sausages. But this was. lacking. The texture was good, it was firm and not grainy.

Which is something, because with other veggie breakfast sausages that can be a problem. I did mine in the microwave like I always do with veggie sausages and it was amusing to me that I had to blot them with paper towels like a “regular sausage” because they were pretty wet.

I didn’t mind it though. And I was pleased with the sizing. Just one was big enough to put on an English muffin, which my preferred way with veggie sausages. However when come to eating the actual sausage patty the flavor was a bit odd, to be honest.

It seemed to have overtones of paprika rather than the expected sagey-type flavour of a breakfast sausage. So I don’t think I’ll be getting these again in the future. My husband and I agreed that these would work very well cut up and put in a spaghetti or on a pizza as a sausage substitute but it’s just not “breakfasty” enough for us.

We’ll totally keep buying Gardein products though. Especially the Chick’n Filets!.

I usually like gardein products, but this one is not good. I’ve had Morning Star’s breakfast sausage, and I like that a lot. I decided to try this one, and it was not good. It didn’t even look right when I cooked it, it looked gross.

Smelled gross. I tasted a bite and unfortunately it tasted just like it smelled. It went right into the garbage. I would hardly call this a breakfast sausage patty. Sticking with Morning Star for now.

My review has to do with the nutrition information. The serving size says 1 patty and 6 serving come in a bag. HOWEVER, the bag has 12 patties inside and the directions tell you to cook 2 patties at a time.

So it has to either be 1 patty per serving and 12 servings in a bag OR 2 Pattie’s per serving and 6 in a bag. I’m on a very strict diet and need to count my calories, but because the info contradicts itself on the bag, I can’t eat these until I know the correct nutritional information.

would have given this 5 stars bit its waaay too spicy for me. i also ordered the “savory” flavor which i will write a review on. The texture was good, heavy spices, right amt. of fats. For a pork sausage substitute, this was worth it.

My only real criticism is the packaging. you can’t thaw it out and easily cut off a portion. it goes everywhere. Hate the packaging.

Very delicious and the texture is great. I like mixibg this with mexican rice or carribean beans in a wrap. Amazing what they can do. The spicy sausage has a bit too much pepper taste for me. I like the mild.

All of impossible foods tastes amazing. Would be better if the prices were lower.

For me, this tastes just like sausage. I usually mix a pack of savory sausage with a pack of spicy sausage. I just brown it and make sure it’s crumbled up. Then, I freeze it in separate bags so that I can just throw it into a recipe at any time.

I liked this meatless sausage from Alpha Foods more than any other meatless sausage product I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot! In fact, I loved these patties and absolutely will be getting these again, as well as trying their other meatless products (there are chicken and beef styles).

The sausage also comes in a crumble version, but I chose the patties to have a favorite way from my childhood (grilled and served with grilled roasted, marinated red peppers, cheddar cheese, and mayo on a grilled or toasted brioche bun.

mmm!). I also wanted to taste them plain as well as chopped up in an omelet. I did all three, and all were delicious! These patties don’t need to be cooked, just heat & eat, but I wanted to toss ’em on the grill for a minute to get that extra charred flavor.

They have a very real sausage flavor, are nicely spiced, and chew like real meat, too. I’d not have known this wasn’t real meat. I loved how the flavor worked in all three meals and held up to the various seasonings and flavors I used them with.

I absolutely highly recommend these!.

I tried Alpha Meatless sausage patties this morning. I would like to comment on a couple of things. First off, the packaging is a huge waste. The 4 sausages that are in the package takes ups about a 1/3 of the package.

For a new company they should be more aware of packaging waster and use a smaller package. I found the sausage to be much too salty and in fact the daily percentage of sodium in 1 sausage was 1/3 of your daily intake at almost 700mg of sodium.

Secondly I found the sausage to be rather dry and the texture wasn’t appealing. When you cut into the sausage it’s really “hairy” and stringy. Taste wise it was just ok, somewhat “sausage” tasting but overall it tasted like a fake meat product, very “soy” heavy.

I will stick with the other brand of veggie sausage that I get.

EDIT: Oh. My. God. I did it again. I glutened myself on this because of the screener. PLEASE stop saying gluten-free in the screener if ALL varieties aren’t GF. IT was my own fault for not reading the label but the screeners are getting very confusing.

I tried Plant-Based Meatless Sausage by Alpha Foods, complimentary, via Social Nature. This was easy to find in my store which I appreciate. I liked this quite a bit compared to meat. I would certainly buy this versus meat sausage.

I do wish it was more affordable – it’s pretty pricey for the amount you get. It could use a touch more oil to make the texture more like meat. The seasoning was a teeny bit off to me, also. I liked that it wasn’t heavy on sage but it has a sweet, funky aftertaste to me.

I don’t normally eat sausage patties since I find them a bit too salty and I am very skeptical of imitation meat. However, after making these for breakfast I can say I am completely blown away! They have just the right amount of seasonings and overall just taste great.

The meat texture is there. Could honestly not tell much of a difference compared to regular meat and would not have known unless told or knowingly saw it came from impossible packaging. The only negative thing I can say is that they only come in 8ct.

10/10 would eat again.

Impossible Sausage and chicken nuggets are fantastic! I’ve had the Beyond brand sausage, and Impossible beats it by a long shot. I prefer to heat them in a pan, but am often in a rush, so I use the microwave – sometimes at work too.

The Impossible sausage heats up very well in a short amount of time and tastes great. The other brand heats up and instantly turns into a dry, chewy, brick. Impossible has not done that in my experience.

Highly recommend!.

I bought these in an attempt to replace animal meat to avoid heavy fats and cholesterol. I LOVE breakfast and it’s hard to give up the sausage with my eggs, but I don’t have to with these! With these patties, there’s no need for real pork sausage.

The seasoning and texture are perfect and they’re so convenient to pop in the microwave or air fryer. These have changed my life and I tell everyone i know about them!.

Let me start by saying I am not (nor will I ever be) a vegetarian/vegan. In other words, this review isn’t coming from the perspective of someone who loves meat. particularly pork. However, I am well aware of the fact the raising livestock is bad for the planet in numerous ways.

I’m also aware of how much fat/sodium/etc is in pork sausage rolls. Therefore, after being impressed by how close Impossible ground burger meat is to real ground beef, I thought I’d give this a shot.

Considering I’d heard no hype about this (whereas the burger meat had tons of hype) I wasn’t expecting much. But, me and my family found it to be surprisingly good. Is it as close to the real pork as their burger meat is to real ground beef? No.

But it is close enough that I genuinely don’t mind eating it. With that being said, I’ll only be buying it occasionally due to the price premium. Yet, I’d buy it regularly if they bring the price down to parity with pork sausage rolls.

I am pregnant and am having a strong aversion to the idea of meat but craving the flavor if that makes sense. I didn’t expect much from this but figured I could give it a try. Oh man, I decided to make a little patty for an egg sandwich and was blown away by how good it is! I had two egg sandwiches today with this sausage because it is that good.

No “off” flavor at all and I’m so picky right now. Super savory and delicious. I won’t hesitate to swap out pork and turkey sausage for this going forward. Hope they never discontinue it because it’s delicious.

You can not tell the difference- juicy, meaty, the right kind of flavorful. My husband would never know the difference. I’m off to make a breakfast casserole now. Yum. New staple.

We bought the Spicy type of Impossible Sausage. My wife browned it & we put it on a pizza. It’s too spicy for me. My wife liked it. But the sodium content more than doubled the amount of mg of sodium per serving.

We watch our sodium intake. Think about publishing the nutrition values for the browned sausage on your web site. It would be helpful for those who are watching calories, sodium, etc.

Eating meat is insanely cruel to animals and is terrible for your health and the planet. Many people think is necessary to eat meat to be healthy. the opposite is true. Meat comes from terrified animals who were killed in horrific ways.

The body parts you eat are filled with disease causing hormones, bacteria, parasites, and cholesterol. Your body needs protein, not animal meat, which you can get in abundance from plantbased sources.

It’s easy to do better for yourself, the animals, and the planet, especially with delicious plantbased foods from field roast.

We tried these at a vegan restaurant as a hot dog alternative (owner shared the brand name info). They were DEEEELICIOUS. I was very excited to find them at the market. The level of spice adds good flavor as if eating a chili dog.

Could definitely be added to a vegan burger for chili burger, sliced and added to veggies and rice, or wrapped in a tortilla for a quick meal.

I great way to add some neat like texture to chilies and jambalaya. It’s have a great spicy profile and is easy to cook as a crumble or whole sausage. I also had them on a bun as part of a spicy sausages sandwich.
