20 Best Veggies For Bunnies (2022 Updated)

I make a plate every afternoon for the rabbits that live on the grounds around my house. I include 3 tiny scoops of the rabbit food on top of the carrots, apple, grapes and blueberries. It’s rather entertaining watching the bunnies hopping around while eating.

Everything is gone by morning.

All 3 of my Rabbits LOVE this food. They each get a 1/4cup scoop every morning with their hay and also once a week after I clean their houses. They know when they get it and go crazy for it at those times, running to their bowls in excitement, and usually circling then putting their faces into the bowl waiting for the drop.

My lionhead lop rabbit is 10 years old and is a super picky eater. He does not like hay and does not like plain pellets. We tried several different brands and Sunburst is his favorite. He loves the dried fruit the best.

I’m so happy Petco carries it.

My guinea pigs love this stuff. I tried to buy food pellets that were only made with timothy hay and they refused to eat it. They are eager in the morning to have this each day. They do eat all of the miscellaneous items and leave the pellets in the bowl until the very end.

They’ll eat it all if they get hungry enough but definitely take their time. Who knew the pigs could be so picky.

This is the guinea pig food my pet prefers, and I was disappointed when my local Walmart store stopped stocking it. I was happy to find it available in an 8 pound bag online which arrived quickly. Excellent quality food with all the stuff my pig prefers to pellets; crunchy bits, dried veggie bits, alfalfa, oats and seeds.

He eats it all which prevents waste. Cost is very fair considering the quality and amount.

Unless you have a rabbit that will eat anything, pass on this one. Over half of the ingredients is wasted because my rabbit absolutely will not eat it. I have tried giving her only this food and she would rather not eat at all after she picks through it.

Going back to Brown’s rabbit food.

My original two piggies (they have since passed away) absolutely LOVED this stuff! They easily transitioned off Oxbow pellets onto this brand and would wait around their bowl in the morning and finish all the pellets within 10 minutes.

They never had any health problems or any problems with these pellets and my vet said these pellets are approved by her and are good quality. I currently have 3 piggies who were adopted from the local shelter, which from what I could tell, they were eating guinea pig pellets that had other bits of things mixed in, like pea flakes, corn, and other added seed type ingredients.

I’m not a fan of these types of mixed pellet diets so I wanted to transition them to Science Selective. 2 of the 3 like these pellets and eat them throughout the day! They do wait by their bowl in the morning and eat them as soon as I pour it, but they never finish it quite like my first two piggies.

My 3rd piggy will not touch this stuff, even when offering it to him by hand, he will take a pellet and then drop it and run away. I would say this brand is amazing with the ingredients in this guinea pig food, so it makes it worth a try to see if your piggies can transition to it, especially if they’re currently on a pellet that isn’t the healthiest.

I love that this pellet is grain-free and does not contain alfalfa hay. I’ll continue to purchase this and would highly recommend giving these pellets a try.

I have two bowls out for my pigs-one for regular pellets and one for these. I was nervous they would not like these, but they enjoy and look for them. It is important to make sure your pigs are not getting too much calcium as well.

I also recommend the oxbow pellets as well- nothing w corn or additives or colored food bits. It’s garbage, and not good for them at all. Spending a little more on decent food saves you $ in the long run from expensive vet bills when they get bladder stones from too much calcium.

My girl had a huge bladder stone she could not pass and had to go to the vet for. I highly recommend this food. Even just leaving out a handful a day. Also, the 50 lb bale of hay on here by oxbow for 50$ as well has saved me a ton of $.

It lasts me 6 months for my 6 pigs, and I used to spend over 50$ a month running to the pet store getting small bags.

If I had to recommend the best pellets for rabbits, it would be Sherwood Forest and Oxbow Garden Select; but if you insist upon feeding something that’s a mix instead of plain pellets, this is a good choice, it’s the only true muesli mix I have seen that I would recommend; there are other rabbit foods out there that are pellets with a few herbs mixed in, I wouldn’t consider those muesli mixes since they don’t have so many add ins, and would recommend them assuming the pellets in the mix are good quality.

Anyways, if you’re looking for a muesli mix against everyone’s recommendation, please choose this one!! All others that I have seen I would never give to my rabbits, but I do give them this as a treat and they love it 🙂 Everything should always be a supplement to free choice grass hay!!.

I myself really like this brand! But my Rabbit Hippo loves it more! This is the only food he will eat! It has the normal pellets but with a lot of other things in it like the bananas, carrots, and a lot of other things! It’s great for rabbits!.

First time moving from young to adult food, so didn’t know how she would react. Tried a different brand first (shall go unnamed) and she didn’t touch that. The Vita Prima is now her favorite. And thanks Chewy for giving a full refund for the one she didn’t like.

Very suspicious that the manufacturers give only very a very vague description of ingredients! What are they hiding? Probably a lot of corn, which makes food taste good but isn’t very nutritious and is inappropriate for rabbits.

Probably a lot of cheap fillers like soybean hulls. And this stuff costs more than the quality brand I buy! I would never buy any diet for any of my animals without knowing the ingredients are good quality and appropriate.

I hope you won’t either. I had to give one star but it’s not deserved.

When we had to switch back to his original rabbit food, our bunny went on a bit of a hunger strike. Yes, he’d eat his hay and pick through a little bit of the food just to sustain himself. But, he was MAD all the time.

Nippy, even. This happened once before when we tried a different food because PURE was out of stock. He’s VERY PICKY. Over the summer it wasn’t as much of an issue because we grow fresh organic Timothy and he prefers everything fresh, especially the hay.

After a day or two with hay he thumbs his nose at it (if he had thumbs, so to speak). Anyway, we were happy in January when this came back in stock. And he stopped biting us.

My rabbits go nuts for this food! I normally get a basic organic food noting else in. But give fresh veggies, however this food makes my buns come running for!!! I was worried that it would cause stomach upset as food with other things in make my buns digestive track off, but not this one.

It smells amazing also. I will be buying this food now. Try this food !! They also are very content not chewing things. It’s like they have what they need and are chill. Maybe something in it chills em out but they are healthy no issues.

I use these pellets as treats for my Fay. Or for intermittent snacking throughout the day. She LOVES them. Why do I do that? We all know rabbits need to keep their system moving, so to keep her body moving, and her digestive tract, I give her things she can’t resist periodically throughout the day.

I put the pellets in a treat ball to give her exercise while she’s snacking. My girl eats plenty of hay but shes a lazy bum. These pellets get her up and dancing around.

I sprinkle a few in my rabbits food as a treat. It doesn’t contain salt which is a main nutritional supplement for them. It’s not a complete rabbit food to use as their only option. If I give my bunnies a small handful daily, they get soft poops.

They do love the taste, so that’s why I only add a few pieces as a treat. I do recommend mixing this with a another brand of complete timothy pellet mix so they can get all the nutrition they need.

I will admit I tried this food only because I couldn’t at the time get my regular rabbit food. Well since that time Selective has now become my regular food for my two rabbits. They both love it!!! My lionhead rabbit especially loves it.

She runs to her bowl every morning when I fill it. Each pellet is a rich green color. The prebiotics in Selective helps to support digestive health, which is what my lionhead needs the most. She has had trouble before with her digestive system.

So I was very happy to see that Selective has prebiotics.

I have tried several different rabbit foods which is very tedious because you have to slowly transition them into eating a different pellet. I simply wasn’t happy with any of the other brands I bought on top of the fact that I have a picky eater on my hands.

I immediately noticed a big difference in the color and freshness of the the #oxbow compared to competitors brands. I had both bags open next to each other because I would alternate handfuls to ensure even mixing of the old and new pellets in her dish and it was hard to ignore how the #oxbowgardenselect was a much higher quality rabbit 🐇 pellets.

I had to show everyone in my home the difference. Then I noticed how much her droppings changed. They were bigger and much more healthy looking. She doesn’t seem to have any issues with the taste either.

Only thing I would like to see is more carriers of the larger sized bags. I bought this one from Amazon and they are already out of stock from the place I purchased this bag. Other sellers are outrageously priced.

4 pounds isn’t a lot and you tend to end up rushing to get more at the last minute, and if you have to substitute with a different food your bunnies tummy will suffer for it. I did see 3 different options on chewy.

4 pounds, 8 pounds, and a 25 pound bag. I highly recommend trying this food for your bunny. Its the best I’ve found and I’ve tried between 8-10 different foods from Walmart, tractor supply, ace hardware, Amazon, and others.

I have to admit, I was one of those people that bought the “funnest” looking food and filled up there bowls. After I got older and more experienced I researched more into rabbits. The “fun” food is NOT good for bunnies and should only make up 20% of their diet.

I bought this food in particular because a lot of people said it was great for picky eaters. With the “fun” food a lot was wasted and it was mostly pellets. There are directions on the back of the bag on how much you should give your rabbit and directions on weaning them off of the old food onto this one.

My rabbits were not having it at first but I kept diluting there old food every week just like the directions say and they fully transitioned to this food. They eat all of it and it doesn’t have all the stuff that isn’t good for bunnies.

My rabbits are more active, healthy, and SO soft since switching.

I bought this as I foster for a rescue and had a few pregnant females. They hated it and refused to eat any of them. The babies once born also hated them. If I put any other pellets in the cage they acted like they were starved and ate ravenously.

So I tried feeding these to my other 7 pigs ranging from young to very senior pigs and they all hated them too. Do not recommend. I have used the oxbow essentials young with good results before and will go back to them.

My rabbit has made multiple attempts to rip the bag open and have an unlimited supply. Unfortunately, when I give her the 1/4 cup portion I reduced her to, her stomach makes loud gurgling noises for hours.

Now maybe thats because she’s a young 4 month old rabbit, who was given to me with these pellets as a big part of her diet, and because Ive been adding veggies to her diet, the pellets have been yet to be phased out as I’m trying to avoid too many changes.

But these give her more tummy problems than veggies and she’s been eating them the majority of her life, that being said, I never noticed any worse symptoms that stomach gurgling.

Your rabbits won’t run to the bowl for these pellets like they will for alfalfa pellets, but these pellets are so much better for their health. Take the time to allow your rabbits to get used to them.

Our bunny was hooked on a diet of alfalfa pellets (because we didn’t know better) and we never saw her eat the timothy hay we gave her. She is several years old, and she started having digestive issues that caused large quantities of dried poo to accumulate on her underside and also incontinence that led to urine burn, taking the fur off her inner legs, despite our grooming.

Per instructions at a reputable rabbit care website, we switched her to a full hay and veggies diet for awhile (she hated us) then finally started adding these pellets. While she didn’t love them like the fancy alfalfa pellets (you know the kind–with colorful pieces of dried fruit, nuts, etc.

), her digestive problems are gone and her fur has grown back. She still needs help with grooming, but she’s a much healthier bunny.

My bunny loves this food and it never gives him wet poo ever. He was getting wet poo, I did some research and found the food should be alfalfa based not soy. This is everything, alfalfa based and he loves all the lucky charms in it.

Ill never give him anything else.

I have 3 guinea pigs, the older one is extremely picky. The younger 2 have been able to digest it well and no complaints. Have tried other brands and he enjoys the Kaytee Nature’s Harvest. They all pick their favorites out of the feeding bowl but by the 2nd feeding of the day, their bowls are nearly empty.

This bag lasts a week for them, I serve them all a 1/4 cup each feeding. This is not the only sole nutrition for your piggy. You will need to supplement with some fresh veggies amd timothy hay too. I like that Target keeps it in stock.
