20 Best Vented Propane Heater (2022 Updated)

I decided to do the installation myself so I spent a little more to buy the 125K rather than the 75K unit. Straight forward installation if you have a solid understanding of plumbing and electrical along with some mechanical smarts for the mounting.

Excellent product. It burns clean, quiet and raised my insulated 24x50x13ft ceiling garage 20 degrees in 45 minutes. I believe I will be happy with this heater for many winters to come!.

Was needing a heater to take the chill off my shop. I installed it myself. With a little help of my wench to get it to my 12ft ceiling. shop is 26×30. Was done in no time. Started up first time with no problems.

Temp out side around 38*. It took about 20min. To bring the temperature up to 68*. Works great.

This awesome unit heats the space I bought it for exactly as intended. Its small and compact size gave me the agility to install it virtually anywhere with ease. Its owners manual was a little bit technical, but installation was relatively simple.

I would buy a second one in a heartbeat.

I am an engineer and I spent probably 40 hours reviewing all types of heaters and furnaces to heat my 2 story 1700 sq. foot house in E. Montana where the temps are routinely -25 to -35F for weeks at a time in the winter.

This old house had a wood stove and electric baseboard (expensive heating, and poor). Settled on this Rinnai EX38 propane model even though I felt the cost was excessive. Installation was exceptionally easy though I wasn’t able to use the wood stove 6″ vent and had to cut a 3″ hole through the wall with some tough masonry board and stucco.

It’s been online now for 6 days and I am very impressed. I used an infrared pyrometer to monitor temps throughout the house. The unit is installed in the 24×15 foot living room and it warms this room (too much) on lowest setting of 60.

At same time it warms the adjoining BR, bath and kitchen while increasing the upstairs temp by 4-5F on this setting. Unit has two great features: economy and setback. They talk about the economy setting but nobody mentiones the setback feature which I feel is the best feature of all.

One of my criteria was finding something that could prevent freezing when we are gone for weeks or months at a time since we travel a lot. The setback feature allows you to set a temp (minimum of 38F) with the furnace off by just selecting the setback button.

The furnace will remain off until the room temp reaches that temperature and then it will ignite the burner to prevent temp from going lower. Temp outside now is 9 degrees so I have used this feature for a couple of days and am impressed though I set it at 46F and it actually comes on when the room is 48-49.

I feel this product is worth the extra cost plus, based on my experience, German and Japenese products (and some American if they are made here) are the best. I hate buying anything new because most of the time they’re poorly made and don’t last or you have all sorts of trouble from the gitgo.

Not with this Rinnai furnace.

The heater was delayed because it was involved in an accident. When it did arrive there was a big gash in the box. There didn’t seem to be any harm to heater. but, I worry there might be something internal.

Great Heater. Installed in our winter home in Quartzsite AZ. When we bought the place it had unvented Blue Flame heaters with smell all the time when burning. Replaced them with the Rinnai 8000 BTU, no more smell, just nice warm heater.

Install took about 4 hours, just taking my time and doing it right. Nothing hard about it. I love waking up to a nice warm room, have our timer set on 6 AM, when we get up around 7 or so, it is toasty warm.

We love this feature as we both like it cool while we sleep, but it is warm when we get up. The heater is easy to program and set.

I bought it on sale in June to install in December (now). I selected the 11000 btu model Martin to replace an 8000 btu Housewarmer that was direct vent also. Martin’s mounting hardware is a joke so plan on getting heavier duty on that.

THE REAL JOKE THOUGH, IS THE RATED OUTPUT. IT IS 50° OUTSIDE AND IT CAN’T WARM PAST 67° RUNNING ALL DAY & NIGHT ON HIGHEST SETTING. I was intending that a bigger model would allow me more heat range if I get bad weather.

my previous Housewarmer 8000 btu made way more heat on medium than Martin’s makes on full bore. (that Housewarmer kept it at 78° inside while it was 38° outside/ they don’t make that heater any longer) I have 195 sq ft and that 11k model CLAIMED a capacity for 323 sq ft.

NOT SO–NO WAY IN HELL DO THEY MAKE ENOUGH HEAT!!! You’d have to buy the 20k btu model and ‘HOPE’ to properly heat the capacity they advertise for their 8k model (200 sq ft). Their heat exchanger design seems to be the problem.

plenty of flame height/color, but very little heat exchanges. AND YOU ARE WASTING FUEL + MONEY on it. I’m just so disappointed since they cost a lot and you get so little. Update: I purchased from Wild Oak Trails that Martin 11000 btu heater.

when I updated my review thru them, I expressed my disappointment that their product doesn’t do the job it claimed it would do. Well guess what? They completely ignored my review AND never bothered to reply, let alone post it to their website where other buyers would learn the TRUTH !!!Yes, you absolutely won’t get what you pay good money to get.

go elsewhere. 2nd update: After less than 3mos of service, the model I bought without flameview window down low is leaking combustion gases past that top of heat exchanger ‘pilot viewing spy window’ gasket and now requires some replacement parts to attempt to reseal.

If you are considering buying this brand. Go way bigger on the btu to get enough output for your requirements AND consider ONLY selecting the flameview window model to avoid having any breach in the top area of that heat exchanger where all the gases accumulate before exiting the chimney.

it will cost around $50+ more on that model, but that one would be safer/smarter in the long run. I’d happily trade my 11k model w/o flameview for the 20k btu flameview window model so I could hope to get the heat up to the expected output claimed by their 8k btu model.

and NOT risk having seepage of exhaust gases into the living space. I have spoken to their Quebec cust serv person (the parent company/mfr) who tried to play down the seepage as ‘normal’ and minimally inconvenient.

WTH!OUTSIDE VENTED CAN ONLY MEAN JUST THAT!3rd Update: Ok, Bismar New York AND Wild Oaks Trail are washing their hands of any reasonable assistance to send me parts so I can put on a new pilot viewing sight glass w/ gasket even though that replacement would be simple and straightforward.

(2screws on a retaining ring and it would be done)What you will find, is they hire women as their frontline responders, who know next to nothing, and they ‘think’ everyone knows as little as themselves.

since they cannot conceive of making that easy parts replacement themselves, then no one could do it either. It is literally the very same outcome as if they told me they don’t honor the warranty. So be forewarned that you will MAYBE get lucky and they ship you a working unit, otherwise you won’t get satisfaction from their end once they have your money.

Fast shipping and appears to be well built. It took me over a week to get appropriate support since the heater would not ignite. Adjustments to the gas valve were required for both pilot and burner. This documentation is not supplied with the heater and was slow to come from the manufacturer.

It’s running properly now and appears to work well. Install was straight forward. Cutting the vent pipe was the most difficult.

This little heater is a champ! I had ordered the larger version and could not get it to work. Wayfair refunded my money and I purchased this one instead and couldn’t be happier with it. It is a bit under sized for my cabin but I also heat with wood so this is really for a back up to wood stove.

This is a fantastic little heater. I have a 24×24, non-insulated garage. This heater puts out more than enough heat to get through the north east winter comfortably. The supplied hose DOES FIT STANDARD PROPANE TANKS!! It’s reverse thread so turn it to the left to tighten it into the tank.

Turn the gas on and wait about 20 seconds before starting the heater. If the heater is started before pressure builds, you will get a small flame and cool output. When started properly this heater pumps extremely hot air with great force when set to high.

It has fantastic output even on low for those fair weather winter days. Compared to larger kerosine torpedo heaters, this thing is whisper quiet with very low fumes. I highly recommend it!.

Love this thing! I bought this to work on finishing my attached garage. I live in the northeast and it’s the middle of winter. I have a small propane tank (like for a grill) hooked up and man this thing makes the space hot! I only keep it running for 9 or 10 minutes because the space just gets too hot to work.

And I haven’t ever put it any higher than the lowest setting. For reference, the garage is a little over 500 square feet with a 10ft ceiling. It does what it’s supposed to do and it does it well. Totally worth the money.

Had it for about a month and used it a handful of times. It works great and even on the low setting pumps out tremendous warmth. Even better, it’s shockingly quiet for a forced air heater. I just leave it on low and it heats up my uninsulated garage within 5 minutes from 25*F to about 60*F.

Burns very cleanly too with a perfectly blue flame. Can say enough good things about it, it does all I hoped and more.

Seemed to be a great product. Works great when it worked. However, one of the burner broke for a reason that I am not sure if. It never was hit, dropped, or misused in any manner. Literally sat in the corner with nothing around it.

My only other concern with the product, it that I wish the mechanics had been a little more durable and rigid. All that being said, it was probably a fluke that the heater messed up. I have experience with these before and like it.

I might be a little gun shy, but I would purchase one of these again. Ps. : I gave it two stars partially because it also messed up my favorite jacket trying to turn it off when it messed up.

Pro’s~~puts out a lot of heat fast. I haven’t used it enough to rate its fuel consumption efficiency. Propane here is around three bucks a gallon. Easy assembly to get it working. con’s~~I don’t know if this is a con, but their are wires and tubing exposed right next to the heat pans and it just seems like they could be in conduit or something.

These are visible in the pictures shown. Maybe perfectly safe, just look iffy.

I have one other Mr. Heater product and it works fine so I purchased this unit. The unit goes out constantly whenever a slight breeze is blowing. It is extremely frustrating having to constantly be watching the outages.

I contacted customer service at Mr. Heater to explain the issue and got only one argument after another. The representative was more interested in arguing semantics like wind vs. breeze rather than addressing the issue at hand.

I was totally frustrated and am totally dissatisfied with this product. I would absolutely NOT recommend this product to anyone who is planning on using it outdoors for any reason. This is an ongoing issue as I have since read several reviews from others who have the same problem with this product.

I have disconnected the unit and it is in my shed where it will probably stay until I can find someone who is willing to give me a couple of bucks for it.

Works well is light weight and compact. Only drawback is it cuts out occasionally probably due to a thermal break designed into it but not hard to light again. It sucks the propane on the high setting but that’s expected for a 90K btu heater.

Seems well built. Heats uninsulated two stall garage well. Easy to use, but need to start the heater as instructed (turn on gas, plug unit in, let run for 20 seconds, hit starter button). Otherwise I did not get good gas flow from the tank I used,.

I’ve trusted the DeWalt name for many years, and I’ve neve had any of their products let me down. Controls are simple and easy to use. I haven’t used the heater yet but I know it’s up to the task. I’m new to Mills Fleet Farm but both surprised and impressed.

We needed a small, attractive natural gas vented heater to replace a ventless one. This one looks good; however, the 8,000 BTU heater puts out less heat than the ventless 6,000 BTU. The room, about 200 sq ft, remains chilly on days similar to when the old 6,000 BTU heater did fine.

Purchased two to install in a warehouse. They were easy to install and work quite well. I will be ordering a third soon. Supply House was quick to respond and fill my order. Being mid winter I wasn’t expecting them anytime soon, but they arrived in about two weeks or so.

I got them in two days before a winter storm hit Texas and we were iced over and had three inches of snow on top of that. We are not used to that here, but the heaters kept it comfortable for the employees.

I rally like my heater. It cost a pretty penny for installation, but well worth it. The unit is amazing. Well built, runs as advertised. It might be a little bit of a LP gas hog, so use it as needed, instead of constant thermostat use.

Use it to heat a small 10×12 cabin. Works great will run you out if put on high.

I bought this to warm up our two car garage which also doubles as a home gym. It’s very simple design with just an electric fan, push button valve, and an ignitor, which I hope will mean that it will last a long time.

Since we use it on a daily basis in the winter, we purchased a GasOne 50120 Propane Gauge to function as a POL to QCC adapter. It makes life easier when disconnecting and reconnecting the tank, as well as serving as a quick indicator for pressure in the line.

I forgot to turn on the fan first before lighting it up, and it automatically cut off the gas when it got too hot. Part of the label melted on the unit housing, and as a result, now serves as a reminder to plug it in before lighting.

The first weekend it worked perfectly. The next weekend the regulator didn’t work and it melted down the stickers and started melting down the handle. Called the manufacturer, they responded like a champ.

FedEx is picking it up today and they will be sending another one right away. So the responses was great from the company but what the heck. Glad the weather is warmer and we won’t need it till next weekend.

Hopefully the replacement will be here to assist us. We will see.

Nice and portable. Not too loud. Good for my 700 sq ft garage. Wish there was a fan control – it comes on when you plug it in and turns off when you unplug. A variable heat control would be great too.

Would buy again.

We have a 900 sq ft unfinished basement below ground. Unfortunately, we also have our office, laundry room, and kids play area down there and it gets down right Artic cold feeling in the winter. We needed something that would warm quickly and maintain warmth while we are using that space.

Originally, I was going to purchase a Kerosene heater but hubby talked me out of it. Im glad he did, this heater keeps down stairs warm and also heats the first floor as well. This is not a primary source of heat, but is great for short term use.

Glad we made this purchase.

I bought this IR30PMDG-1 on a homedepot website, and get all the important materials i need it. Installed in my living room where me and my wife watching tv even my wife can’t believe. Its so great and awesome, just only 1 setting it warms the whole house “feels like summer!” I definitely recommend this to all people who are living in a freezing weather countries, use as a backup or supplement.

I bought this furnace back in December but had issues with getting it delivered to my cabin “Mike” was very kind trying to figure out how to get the furnace to my cabin. As a 18 wheeler is not allowed in the area that I live in.

He found a 3rd part to get to my cabin and inside. Then I ran into another problem was trying to find someone to install it. I called local companies but they all said they couldn’t do it as I did not purchase the furnace from them.

I finally found someone none the less off Facebook who came out to take a look and give me a quote. Witch was under what the companies were giving me even though they were not going to install it. It works great.

I’m not constantly adjusting the furnace manually. And it heats my place up quickly. Not 2-3 hours. But maybe 45 minutes from the first time I turn it on. If that.

I bought this to replace a wall mounted blue flame heater in our shop since the wall unit made too many fumes if we used any sort of chemicals in the shop. This vented heater eliminated that issue. Install is straight forward and easy.

One thing to keep in mind is that the gas line inlet is on the left side of the heater (looking from the front) so I had to do a U-turn with my gas fittings. Also, the gas valve and igniter are on the right rear of the heater so you need to plan for that in your install.

The heater had a pretty strong smell the first few hours of use but it goes away. The included thermostat unit works well. I’m using it in an unfinished basement that is approximately 1200 sq. Ft. and it heats it really well.

The unit is a little pricey, but well worth the cost. I had to have a vented, high altitude propane heater. Installation was very simple. great heat exchange. very efficient. The best part of my experience with Alpine HomeAir has been the customer service.

when I have had a problem I immediately get accurate information from an obviously knowledgeable tech support individual. When you speak with the tech he has all your information based on your phone number and immediately provides intelligent answers to address your issue.

Received the unit earlier than expected in perfect order. I did have a bit of trouble getting the unit to fire after installation in part to excessive gas pressure requiring a secondary pressure regulator.

Fortunately I had one from the unit I was replacing this one with. I installed it in line and the unit fired right up and worked awesome. Great heat, great fan speed, and overall completely satisfied with the purchase.

The only downside of the entire process was the lack of technical advice from e-compfort. I called them and went through the firing issue I was having with the initial install. my lack of knowledge and ignorance of pressures is also partly to blame.

However the supplemental literature sent along with the units gas valve stated it had a “pressure regulator built in to maintain proper pressure to the unit” so I read into it a secondary pressure regulator was not required.

Tech support sent me to the manufacturer for a warranty issue. The manufacturer sent me to a supplier that did not understand why they passed it to them because they were not a rep, distributor or technical support outlet, so I was left to my devices to figure out the cause.

No big deal really but it could have made a small misunderstanding of the product a little easier to get beyond. None the less a great product, good purchasing outlet and very satisfied, thus far in operation for 2 weeks.

I can only give an average review. I held a thermometer to the bottom vent and it was registering at 105 degree, when i hold it towards the top. It registers at 85 degrees. So, it doesnt put out as much heat at the top as it does at the bottom.

But maybe that is the way it is designed to work to be more efficient. I have not received our first heating bill since installed, so i dont know if it is saving us money over our old ones. Careful to check all nuts and bolts.

I was missing 2 out of the fan motor to the blades.

I never give reviews until after I use a product. We have a large room with NO insulation, it is about 100 x 90 and with ceiling reaching 18 high. The attic is another 15. The temperature outside seems to be warmer than the temperature inside.

During winter it was about 42 to 48 degrees inside. We could never get it warm. We decided to replace our old 175k btu unit for the 400k new Modine. When we received the unit it was much bigger than our other unit (twice as big).

I was thinking I made a mistake due to size and how big it looked to the naked eye. We got a floor jack to lift unit to the ceiling (the floor jack was amazing). We first got everything ready for the professional installers to make things easy for him and saving us $$$.

We got the scaffolding ready and the lift. After 8 hours we had Modine in and ready to fire up. First I would like to say our other heater would take 6 hours to get temperature at about 52 degrees. Now we can turn on Modine and in 55 minutes temperature reaches a comfortable 64 degrees.

Mind you of our room size, it is a skating rink and I love my Modine, yes I will claim her as mine. I was thinking with the size and no insulation of any kind, I was debating to get two. But the pros told me one is enough.

I have a Nest Blue Tooth attached to thermostat and turn it on one hour before a party or our skate events. Now the employees call me up and instead of complaining on how cold it is, now I get a call please turn down the temperature or even turn off unit.

Imagine if I had insulation in attic. 15 minutes and it would be warm, that is my next purchase. It far passed my expectations and would recommend this 400k BTU unit for big spaces like mine. I would not install it without the pro doing the installation to make sure it is done right and under warranty.

I have a 30 x 48 pole barn kit with closed cell spray in the ceiling and just a small radiant barrier in the wall, maybe r2. I was a little worried at first because a 125k construction heater didn’t really budge the temperature (the garage door would be open about 1 foot) but this heater outperforms the other by miles! In fact I had the door open about 3-3.

5 feet tonight for a kid to drive a battery jeep around and it was still hitting set temp no problemHeats up the space in not even 30 minutes, self lights, once the mechanical thermostat hits the set temp it will cut off the pilot and cool itself down then shut off until it needs to put some more heat out.

Pushes a good amount of air, I’ve also been told by a guy who works at a commercial greenhouse that it’s a great brand and should last a long time. It’s probably a little big for my space but I’m very glad I went with this heater.

Great unit price is a little high but worth it. I got the stainless heat exchanger to last longer, and basic thermostat works great in a 900 sq. Ft garage well insulated seems efficient will see my first bill.

We just replaced a 30 year old Modine with a new one. The only reason we replaced it was we had a small roof leak and it rusted a hole in it. We hope to get another 30 years out of the new one. We may end up replacing all are others ones in the off season, because the new one seems more efficient.

Works better than I expected. When I had it installed both the Installers and the gas co. people were impressed. Easy hook up and the exhaust fan gave the option of going through the wall.

Getting it installed was more (time/$) than I had expected. Time because the plumbers were so busy it took them awhile to finally get me on their schedule. $ because they weren’t cheap. Heat produced is prodigious and watching gas flames in unit is awesome.

Reset button wasn’t described in installation booklet so when it wouldn’t come on I had to call the plumbers again. Once they showed me where it was when it happened again I just reset the unit and off it went.

Unit will easily heat the house. Good insulation will keep it from coming on throughout a cold night. It is quieter than the furnace I’m replacing but not as quiet as the furnace in my folks’ home. But then that was 60+ years ago and items/parts didn’t come from outside the USA.

It also clangs – not the unit, but the metal vent – as the metal is heated/cooled. You get used to it and in a way it’s reassuring to hear the noise at night. I like it a lot.

The only reason that I gave it three stars in performance is because of the loud noises that it makes. While I understand that furnaces typically make those kind of noises, furnaces are usually in a basement.

A hearth heater is typically in a living space close by other people. It makes a lot of very loud noises. So much so that I thought maybe an animal had gotten in there. Otherwise its a very nice heater and works very well.

Very happy with the product – the one we replaced lasted for over 30 years – hope this one does as well. When ordering this model get the thermostat with it. The fan is a little noisy but functions well.

Like the fire log look in the front – very cozy looking. The directions for hooking up the thermostat were a little confusing. Overall, pleased.

The product is great! I live at an elevation of 4255 ft. I could never get the blue flame. The heaters limit in elevation is 4500. didn’t work for me. The product is soilid.
