18 Best Venus Fly Trap (2022 Updated)

I just had to respond to the people who complained that their Venus Fly Trap was too small or that it developed mold and died. These plants don’t require much water as they take in most of their moisture from their prey.

Blood is very hydrating. And, receiving a smaller plant is actually better than getting a bigger one. Smaller ones are younger and more likely to live longer. I consider these traits definitely a plus for the seller.

Glad they’re not selling older plants and ones that might have other diseases or bacteria or molds. I grew up where these plants live in the wild. The ONLY place they live in the world!! I have had many.

Trust me. Remember people! Don’t overwater your Fly Trap!!.

This little darling is so cute. it is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. but it is a tiny baby. I put it in some light. not direct. and in 4 days it has almost doubled in size. ! I am looking forward to feeding it.

no problem with little flying critters. I live very close to a swamp. and the no see’ms need to be controlled. hopefully this will do it. I have tried everything else. Really wanted to do something else this summer.

but chase bugs. Only dilemma is what to name it.

I bought 2 adult size Venus fly traps from Joel’s carnivorous plants. Unfortunately one did not survive the trip. I contacted Joel and he promtely committed to a replacement that I received in no time.

I am very happy with the response and the replacement plant along with the other is beautifull and healthy.

This is not as “REUSABLE” as they want you to believe. The only way you can truely “Reuse” this is if you buy TWO and rotate them. If you only buy one and think you’re just going to “Empty out the dead flys” and start over, THINK AGAIN.

if you keep water in the container and do not let it dry out, you will continue to attract flies for about 30 days before the jar is too full and will not hold any more flies. At this point you’ll have about half a jar of dead flies, some still live flies and about half a jar of maggot larvae ready to become more pesky flies.

So if you just dump it out, you’ve defeated your entire purpose and have only created a fly breeding farm. The trick is to close it up for another 30 days and let the container dry out and all the larvae die inside the container while you use your 2nd jar to continue catching more flies.

Then repeat for the remainder of the fly season. The real shame is that THIS SAME COMPANY (Starbar) makes a MILK JUGG TOP for use on regular milk jugs but Tractor Supply doesn’t see fit to carry it. With the MILK JUGG TOPs we just save the old jug lid and screw it on quickly after removing the fly catcher top.

Then we can just throw the jug full of flies and maggots away. WARNING; GET A NEW MILK JUG TO CONTINUE. DO NOT TRY TO REUSE THE SAME MILK JUG ONCE YOU’VE FILLED IT WITH FLIES. THE PLASTIC DOESN’T HAVE THE INTEGRITY NECESSARY TO STAY OUT IN THE ELIMENTS THAT LONG.

About half way through your second month, the jug will become brittle and disinegrate right before your eyes. Then you’ll watch all the flies come out madder than hell and set for revenge. and you’ll never make that mistake again.

As far as this jug is concerned, it might be adequate for a small appartment where flies are not too active. But it doesn’t do much on acerage with 2 horses even with feed-through fly control. The other thing to consider is when it’s time to buy more attractant.

The cost of the attractant is almost as much as the jar and lid.

This is it! The Captivator is the one item that has made the difference between being able to be in the backyard or being run indoors by flies. Within hours the Captivator starts to fill up. By the end of the week it’s full, goes into the trash can and out to the road for garbage man to pick up and haul away.

I will not be without this product working at my South Alabama home as long as they keep making and distributing it! AND it’s a reasonable price. I can’t think of anything better to spend my hard earned money on if I want peace from buzzing, biting flies in my yard.

At first, I didn’t think this thing was going to work, because I had it suspended about 4 feet off the ground. It was attracting a few flies, but not what I had hoped for. Then, I relocated it about a foot, or so, lower sitting on top of a closed trash can, and boy oh BOY, did it ever start collecting flies in droves! This thing is working perfectly, and has so many dead flies in it, that it’s about time to empty it and put a fresh batch of water and attractant in it.

Now it keeps the flies away from the doors, so I don’t have to dodge them real quick to enter or exit. Quite impressed with it, now, that I have it in a perfect location. BIG thumbs up on this product! It would be better, if it had a glass jar, instead of plastic, and this is the ONLY area that I mark down.

But, overall, it is worth the money. Just make sure to order extra attractant pouches, to keep it going.

feed neighbor cats outside my front door, have never seen so many flies before. just put outside and looked 10 mins later, have about a dozen flies so far. needed something safe, this is really neat, you can set it or it has a hook for hanging.

says its waterproof, nice hard plastic case, not cardboard or sticky tape, round so they stick to all sides. price was pretty good for 2. will be buying again. I bought 4 boxes with 2 inside, will be putting one inside my recycle trash can, where I put the cat cans in, has a lid but they still get in.

When I took this out of the box and put it out, it was useless. Nothing happened, no matter where I placed it. I decided that since dog poop was the attraction, I would try something. I placed dog pool in the bottom of the individual compartments, and placed it in the yard.

Worked like a charm!! Now there were so many flies attached to it, it was no longer yellow, but black. Works great. Pick it up when full and toss it. That’s it.

These little pots are wonders if you have fruit flies. We keep a compost bucket in our kitchen, and have been overrun by the little buggers for months now. I have been creating my own catchers with wine glasses, plastic sandwich bags and rubber bands, and they were ugly, and I risked breaking the catchers.

These, on the other hand, are unobtrusive, sit firmly on the shelf, hide the caught bugs, and seem to attract them better than my hack. If you have fruit flies, buy a couple. You won’t regret it.

To use you put apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap. I often use this mixture in a little bowl by my sink in the summer. We always get little fruit flies but don’t really have any now. This little container looks much nicer and can’t be knocked over as easily as the bowl.

Within 24 hours of placing this trap on the kitchen counter with the apple cider vinegar and a drop of liquid detergent, there were over 40 fruit flies inside. I had tried a regular dish with saran wrap over it with holes punched in it and got 3-4 in 2 days.

This stuff is maybe too good. We had a lot of flys on back porch and hung two of them. The smell is awful. It took maybe an hour to trap the first fly, and then things went nuts. Within a day, there were hundreds of flys in one.

But then the smell was bad and attracted an incredible amount of flys so the entire city was probably clear of flys except for our back porch. After about 4 days there were a couple of inches of dead flys in one and hundreds more waiting for entry.

I moved the traps to the vacant house next door (city lots): incredible number of flys. But I could still smell them at my house. Now, I have hung them over a six-foot wooden fence on the other side of the alley where it is a big vacant lot.

If you have a barn of house, make sure you can hang the trap about 50 to 75 feet away from where you don’t want any flys.

These really work. without fail. The only downside is the odor that they produce. If you can place it where the smell won’t bother you, then you will be in business. We have an outdoor smoke pit where we trim meats for cooking.

Last summer the fly situation was horrible. this year with these traps, the fly issue was insignificant; to the point that we never picked up a flyswatter this summer. I buy these in bulk now. I swap them out once a week.

If you have fly problems, this is definately worth a try.

Just add water as directed and hang. These do have an odor (gotta attract the flies!) so I put them as far away from the patio as practical, and downwind. But they do catch the flies! When full, I slip a plastic bag up from the bottom while the trap is still hanging, snap down the yellow opening, tie the bag off, and carefully place it in the trash.

Supposedly non-toxic, but you sure don’t want it to leak! I used this produce a couple years ago, then accidently bought another brand in similar packaging. That brand smells better, but is does not catch the flies like this product.

The Venus Flytrap is native to N and S Carolina. You don’t never grow them in containers like this. Your just going to waste your money. Venus flytraps need to be grown outside all year around they do require a freeze in full sunlight sitting in a inch or two of distilled water.

I bought this for my 14 year old nephew after he asked me for a Venus fly trap plant. The kit arrived quickly and was easy to plant. It seems to be doing okay. My nephew loves it! I ordered a second one for my niece now.

These plants died within a week, I wasn’t sent the right amount of peat moss. The worst plant purchase that I have made.

These are an assortment of my plants. I had to get rid of most of my plants a few months ago in an out of state move. At my new location, Lowe’s had these beautiful plants 75% off. I had to repot some.

The potting soil MG was AWFUL! I tried everything to get rid of the fungus gnats in the MG soil. I am still fighting the fungus gnats. It was amazing to see actual results in this spot. The device is easy to use.

It REALLY did attract the gnats in a short time. It was also very easy.

When I ordered this, it was for use outdoors off of my deck area. However, just before it arrived, my kitchen was swarmed with small flying gnats that were driving me crazy. When I read that this could be used indoors, I thought why not give it a try? Yep, it works! It really helped to get rid of the population of gnats.

I’m sure it will also be effective outdoors. I’ve used similar bug killers for many, many years, and they always work well. Note that you do NOT want to install this fixture near where you sit. you want it away from you as far as possible.

The light does draw bugs to it, so if you sit/hang it next to you, you’ll be swarmed. Too many people apparently make that mistake. When a bug gets into the grid, the snap of the power burst is LOUD.

I jump every time it goes off. So far I’ve only removed the bottom collection tray to clean it. Again, this product is very much like others I’ve used in the past, and based upon my experiences so far, I would presume that this will last a long time and will work well.

I would order it again.

Wow! I was beyond impressed with how effective these traps were. I’m not 100% sure if we always had this many flies or if the traps attracted more, but they caught them. The only downside (from a smaller backyard perspective) was the smell.

They started to get pretty stinky after a few days, completely understandable, just something I noticed. I wish I had ordered more so I could have put up the replacements right away. I was very impressed that no other flying creatures made their way into the trap.

Highly effective product, well thought out design, very easy to install and dispose of. If there was ever a version that relied less on single use plastic this product would be absolute perfection. Highly recommend!.

This new and improved flies be gone is an inferior imposter. First, the weather really needs to be above 85 before the smell start attracting the flies. It took two weeks, this is a much longer wait period versus the original.

Second, the original had a mesh cone that the flies walked into, this new product does not. So now you can watch the flies going on and out. Third, when it rains the bag fills with water. So now you have to dump out the water and mix up something smelly to attract the flies.

Fourth, the larger bag seems like a good idea. I had lots of maggots which was not an issue before. Bottom line, yes this product will eventually catch flies, but not as efficiently and effectively as the original product with the red and yellow lid.

Thankfully the company did refund my money. I will not buy this product again. Make sure when you order you ask what product you will be receiving. I ordered the original and received the product with the black lid as a substitute.

We raise beef cattle and our pasture is on the other side of our driveway which is directly in front of our house. I would have to wipe off my window sills and siding under our porch weekly because the fly poop was so disgusting.

We put up the trap in betwwen the house and the barn, it does have a slight odor but then again so does cow poop. After the trap was up about two weeks I only have to wipe off a spot or two. What a great product, we will be getting more for next year.

This sounds gross but we all go out and check how many flies are caught and how full the bag is getting. We also put up the yellow hanging strips in the barn but I am noticing fewer flies being caught on them.

I’ve used fly bags around our house and barns for years so I know how they perform. And I know how they are supposed to smell. Usually something akin to a dead cow rotting in the sun. I couldn’t get my usual brand this year so I tried these.

So far out of 3 bags that are hanging on the south sides of the building in good sun I’ve accumulated maybe 2 dozen flies. This is after 2 weeks of being open. There’s no smell coming out of any of of any of the bags, just a very faint bad odour.

All the instructions were followed to the letter but no flies.

I usually buy these every summer since flies usually like to congregate near our rear entrance where there is a lot of shade. The first time I used it, I was kinda worried it will not work well since it probably trapped less than a dozen flies (after about 2-3 days).

Towards the end of the 3rd day, the bait contents smelled really putrid and this fetid smell made it attract a lot of flies. By the end of the week, the bag was probably twice as heavy from all the trapped and dead flies ! It was both disgusting and satisfying hahah.

Since then I have bought these annually ! Great stuff !.

the stink is so bad, we though there was a dead mouse in the wall of our garage. my garage is large. three bays. i like to keep the doors open during the day because i go in and out through the garage so i hung one of these traps.

i never thought another thing about it. the next day i started to smell something. we have had a mouse die in a wall before and i thought oh, no, not again. first i took everything out of the garage to make sure it hadn’t died behind something.

for three or four days i suffered through the smell until our pest control guy could come out to the house. i saw that the trap was getting full so i took it down to put it in the garbage. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! i took it into the woods and threw it there.

when it gets cold outside i will pick up the plastic and dispose of it. if you use this outside, the smell may not bother you, but DO NOT hang this in an enclosed area!.

Our fly issue has multiplied a zillion times this past summer. We don’t have any garbage or decay in our yard. Our garbage cans are always shut. But we’ve managed to attract a billion flies. They break into my home and congregate around our patio table.

I’d had enough and decided to buy this gem of a product. This design appealed to me because I believe death by poisonous sludge is more merciful than death by sticky tape. The goods was delivered fast and in good condition.

Unfortunately, the instructions had been halved, and I was stumped. Everything could be found easily on the internet, and the processes were clearly laid out for a kindergartener to follow. It caught more flies than I’d ever be able to count in that contraption.

There’s a lot of disgusting stuff going on within that monster. It makes my cheeks flush just thinking about it. It took about a week for the flies to be intrigued by it, so I initially assumed I’d got a dud.

But once they got started, it was all downhill from there. We had them encircled in droves. Excellent purchase! I’m going to purchase some more.

I really want this product to work because it’s organic. It sounds nice and it works a bit but I wouldn’t say it works 100%. I still see the flies flying around but it’s less. The first shipment came with broken handle so my husband lifted and water spilled everywhere.

We got a replacement and now it works about 70%. Just be careful to check the blue water often. Because it’s non-toxic, we see tons of baby insects (what do you call? Pupa? ) in the first blue water so we threw away.

Now, we are on the watch on the current one. Well, it’s organic. harmless. We hope it works better.

Where I live is notorious for having little flies all over in the summertime, especially at sunset and can be rather annoying. I bought this item and after mixing the solution with water I placed it outside and before the lid was open, I came back outside to a fly already on the lid trying to get inside.

Fast forward a few days later (last night) where I spent some time outside in the back yard, nearby where I placed the FlyBuster and no flies were bothering me, it was great! When I looked in the FlyBuster I saw those little flies trapped within.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great solution to annoying flies.

Last year my yard was completely infested with flies, they were everywhere, they would get in my house and it was impossible to be outside and enjoy it. The flies were literally driving me crazy! I tried glue traps, sprays, homemade trap, even other store bought traps, they would catch a few but not nearly enough.

I just happened to come across the RESCUE FLY TRAP and figured what would it hurt to try them? They were pretty reasonably priced compared to other traps I had used. I have never been so happy to have just bought something.

The RESCUE FLY TRAPS are by far the best product for flies. Just hours of having the trap out there is already several flies, within a week its full or nearly full. We got so much relief with these RESCUE TRAPS around.

I will never use any other fly traps. Also, just beware the stuff that is used for bait stinks really bad, it shouldn’t be used inside or even to close to where you sit or spend alot of time outside.

It is very easy to set up and get put together. If you want to get rid of flies, use RESCUE FLY TRAP!!.

LOved using this product last year. We were amazed at how well it worked. The smell was terrible but well worth the outcome. We have tried using the refills and also buying new traps this year. The strong smell is no longer present and the trap barely catches a fly.

Were the ingredients changed? Not sure what is wrong, but it is definitely not working as it should. Can no longer recommend this product and we bragged about it to everyone last summer.

My company bought this for one of our pit bull events this past week and it was very effective that corralling the flies and keeping them away from the food, the people, and the dogs! It was easy to use and we were able to hang it from a tent.

We were very pleased at the ease of use and effectiveness of this gold stick fly trap. Just make sure you hang it up high enough so that people don’t walk into it!.

The product arrived crushed and barely usable shipped in a thin plastic bag. Top that off with slow shipping. Partially USPS fault it shipped from eastern NY to NJ to 2 FL locations before western NY finally arriving much later than anticipated a few hundred miles from the original shopping point.

No way is it strong enough for Texas wasp. Perhaps flies shouldn’t be advertised as wasp and flies.

This item was on sale and fit the theme for a vignette I am preparing, so I tossed it in my online cart as a second thought. When I picked it up from the store, I was delighted to see it was quite large- even a bit larger than a real flytrap.

The individual flower stems are poseable, though the heads are not wired. One of these is enough for a single, realistic-looking plant. It was my unexpected favorite purchase of the lot!.

These are cute. They were with the Halloween decorations. Not super scary because Venus flytraps don’t usually eat people, but use your imagination. You never know what it’s thinking.

Bought as a gift for my brother. He loved it. Instructions are clear to follow and everything needed is provided. I only just gave it to him so I cant comment on wether it grows or not but as a gift kit it went down well.

Was also delivered quickly.
