18 Best Victorian Romance Novels (2022 Updated)

I feel like an expert on the Regency after a couple of days with this book! There were some things I still had to look up that the author seemed to assume her readers would know, but I definitely learned a TON (get it? Ha!) about the Regency era, and its so much more enjoyable to read the books now.

Im 49 and have been reading Heyer books for 35 years, and FINALLY have my questions answered! I had a vague understanding before, so its nice to really understand all the cant phrases and differences in carriages and clothing.

This isnt a comprehensive reference, but it was extremely helpful to me. I highlighted a bunch of stuff!.

For a Georgette-a-file it is an excellent addition to my collection. Whether it is Regency Romance, Swashbuckling adventures or Gold Age Queen of Crime, Georgette’s writing is always satisfying, perfectly researched and beautifully written with a true love and laughs thrown in for good measure.

She has great one liners and wonderful characters.

Jennifer Kloester has written a very informative book with details on every aspect of Regency life including brief biographies of the Famous people of the time and tying it all into Heyer’s Regency novels.

Speech, fashions, sports, dining, manners and more – it’s an excellent must read for all Georgette Heyer fans.

BOUND AND DETERMINED BY REGINA JENNINGS If not for the fact that I’d already read the first book in this series. I STILL would’ve loved this novella!! Wow! I absolutely fell in LOVE with everyone in this story, including the camels! Lol, they were such weird little oddballs, but completely ADORABLE.

And smart! I had already liked the character of Bradley Willis after reading “Holding the Fort” (book #1 in the “Fort Reno” series), but this story brought him more fully to life and I was able to understand him better.

Once again, he had me laughing out loud at times and grinning from ear to ear at others! Amber’s determination and straightforwardness were no match for his stubbornness (or was it loyalty?. ) This was such a unique story! And I don’t just mean from other books, but also from within its own series! I loved that the author found a unique piece of history that isn’t widely known, and focused the story around it.

Just makes it that much more intriguing! I’m so excited and will be eagerly awaiting book #2, “The Lieutenant’s Bargain”, set to release in December! TIED AND TRUE BY MELISSA JAGEARS Such a lovely story about the meaning of true love.

Not just a flighty little attraction, but a love that withstands time and hardships and rejection. Marianne is in love with Calvin and she just KNOWS that he’s in love with her. The problem is, he’s been hurt in the past and is afraid that her love will be unable to withstand the hard times.

Determined to prove him wrong, Marianne sets about to prove her faithfulness. Author Melissa Jagears has created a beautiful story that is filled with a sweet love that flows warmly through you and reminds you that love isn’t always two-sided and sometimes you have to work hard with nothing but the HOPE of a return on it.

Bravo, Ms. Jagears! I will be looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of this series!.

Loved, loved, loved this Novella collection of stories from four of my most favorite authors, Karen Witemeyer, Mary Connealy, Regina Jennings, and Melissa Jagears. I enjoyed each and every Novella based on each author’s series of certain previously written books.

They are witty, fascinating, romantic, and very entertaining. Taken from the book blurb: In Karen Witemeyer’s “The Love Knot,” Claire Nevin gets the surprise of her life awaiting her sister’s arrival by train.

What a great collection of quick reads that are entertaining and make you laugh and get you teary eyed. Historical romance with the common thread of twists and turns that end up in love that’s entwined.

When you add God to the equation you have a three strand cord that is not easily broken. The Lord Knot by Karen Witemeyer shows how unexpected packages can become our greatest blessings. Finding forgiveness and listening to the truth instead of going on assumptions brings great joy.

The Tangled Ties That Bind by Mary Connealy made me laugh from the get go. I loved Conner and the sacrifices he was willing to make for Maggie. Bound and Determined by Regina Jennings is so endearing and entertaining.

I love the spunkiness of Ambrosia and reading more of Private Bradley Willis and his antics was just what I needed to lift my spirits. Throw in some camels and Indian territory and you have the makings of a great Novella.

Tied and True by Melissa Jagears shows the great lengths Marianne is willing to go to in order to show that money does not bring happiness when you have love. Wonderful characters that come alive. This collection is one you will want to revisit and share with your friends.

This was a pretty fun read. The female lead is very outgoing for her time. She’s not great at being girly and doing girl things. The male lead has been her friend since they were kids. Finally something clicks for them.

It has amusing dialogue and entertaining scenes. Since this is connected to Bridgertons series, I think readers of that series will be more involved in the storyline. I have not read it so I didn’t recognize all the characters, but that didn’t distract me from liking the book.

Such a pleasant read. I read it in one day, and it was such a good price. I can’t wait to read the next ones! Definitely read this if you enjoy the bridgerton series!!

Brother and sister, Judith and Peregrine, find themselves wards of the fashionable and autocratic Earl of Worth. His behaviour infuriates the lively Judith, but she also sometimes suspects him of having warmer feelings towards herself.

Her brother becomes engaged to be married and almost immediately suffers from unexplained illness, an attack by highwaymen, and is forced into a duel, which is fortunately stopped in time. Judith doesn’t know who to trust, but her cousin, a suitor for her hand, tries to convince her to suspect the Earl.

This story combines Georgette Heyer’s skill in portraying the Regency period, and her skill in writing a mystery. Another of my favourite Heyers.

Having 26 copies of Georgette Heyers Regency romances , I am beginning to replace my elderly paper backs.. This copy is one of my replacements.

This book has it all..and takes one along for the ride in Ms Taverner’s daring perch-phaeton. Surely a tv series in the making as seemingly there’s such a shortage of regency period drama.

Pros: Story flows well and the ending is satisfying // Many points of rising action and tension // Well-fleshed characters: Victoria is easy to sympathize with and Lord Melbourne is fascinating // A great historical perspective of an endearing character Cons: Some parts are melodramatic (not that they’re overly dramatic, but the characters just act really scandalized over the smallest things) // I wish the subplot with Victoria’s domineering mother had been more developed in the latter half of the book Verdict: Less of an all-encompassing biopic and more of a glimmering coming-of-age story of one of the most powerful female rulers in history, Victoria is a historical drama that paints a vivid picture of the Queen’s earliest, most transformative years.

Daisy Goodwin is a natural storyteller; lovers of all things British Royalty will eat this book up. Equal parts political examination and budding romance, it left me thinking: What a beautiful novel.

I love Historical Fiction, so I was eager to read this story of the young Queen Victoria. I had seen the movie “Young Victoria” a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The first few chapters of this book reminded me very much of the movie.

Ms. Goodwin’s descriptions brought the story to life for me. I found myself getting frustrated with Victoria as she was quite childish. How difficult it must have been to see that Victoria was, at times, not mature enough for the responsibilities placed upon her, but to be unable to do or say anything because, after all, she was the Queen.

You may wonder then why I gave the book only three stars. If it were categorized as Historical Romance I would give it four stars, but as Historical Fiction it only gets three stars. The book really says very little about what responsibilities Victoria actually had.

The entire book is Victoria mooning over Lord Melbourne. (I can see why as he, being much older, showed the maturity needed for a proper Prime Minister. He was also the only one that seemed able to carefully direct Victoria to the proper decisions or behaviors.

) Then when Albert does come along it is like a Harlequin story – they hate each other and then after some time suddenly discover they can’t live without each other. So, if you want romance it is a good read.

But if you want to learn historical information regarding Queen Victoria you might look elsewhere.

So happy to get this book as a gift for my daughter. She needs large print due to low vision and the cost of large print is usually excessive. Thrilled with the price and the quality.

No work of fiction has touched my heart as deeply as Before We Were Yours, not even The Memory Keeper’s Daughter or The Secret Life of Bees. I would definitely put this book in the league with those titles and To Kill A Mockingbird.

That is high praise indeed in my book. About halfway through Before We Were Yours, I felt compelled to do a little online research of The Tennessee Children’s Home Society and Georgia Tann. How I had not heard of Tann and the Memphis branch of this society that operated from the 1920s through the 1950s, I cannot imagine.

Tann arranged thousands of questionable adoptions. She and her network of informants tricked uneducated parents, poor parents, and single parents into surrendering their children, others were simply stolen off porches, on their way to school, and other places children might be found without adult supervision.

In addition to the thousands that were adopted out, often to the crème of society, hundreds did not survive the life they were forced to live within the wall of homes run by Tann and the society. Most biological parents never knew what had happened to their children.

While the sons and daughters of Queenie and Briny Foss were fictional characters. Their experience with the Tennessee Children’s Home Society mirrored those of real life victims. Wingate tells their story in such a way that the reader is fully engrossed and completely overwhelmed with the raw emotion evoked by the tale.

I found myself praying for those real-life children and families who were victimized in this decades-long tragedy. While this book is no fluffy beach read, I would suggest that if you don’t read any other book this summer, read this one.

This is an incredible novel and definitely worth reading, not only for the story but for the beautiful, clever and nuanced writing. Lisa tells a tragic story in an engaging and touching way. She immediately drops you into it from the prelude, and takes you on a heart wrenching journey with the characters, the pain, the sadness, the heartbreak and the joy.

It is a novel I will keep ruminating over for many years.

“I. grab my hair and pull until it hurts. I want to pull all of it out. Every single piece. I want a pain I understand instead of the one I don’t. I want a pain that has a beginning and an end, not one that goes on forever and ever and cuts all the way to the bone.

” Wow. I had looked forward to reading this book for so long, yet I was unprepared for the anguish between its covers. What a terrible blot on our nation’s history was the the Tennessee Children’s Home Society, run by Georgia Tann (aka, Cruella DeVille, Lucifer, etc).

Yet the story told by Rill also amazes me with the resilience of the human spirit. How she could sustain the loss of her family, one member at a time, until she surrendered her right to her own name and history and future with Silas to provide for her sister, Fern (“stitched together at the heart since she was born”).

Rill, now May, deliberately chose to “let go of the river’s song” (where she grew up so happily) “and found the music” of a new family where she eventually accepted love and protection. In turn, she taught others that “a woman’s past need not predict her future.

” This lesson is the pivot point in Avery’s life, a granddaughter of May’s lost-and-found sister, Judy. Her story is interspersed with May’s as she digs through clues to untangle family connections buried long ago, the rhythm of the “now” and “then” chapters giving the book purpose and hope.

She realizes the importance of choosing her own music and makes choices that every reader will cheer. This book will shake you and change the way you view things you probably take for granted. Like all of Lisa Wingate’s stories, it is wonderfully well-written and worth every tear.

I really enjoyed this YA fiction even though it’s not my usual genre. Beautifully written with an original premise of using flower meanings to send messages. Highly recommend.

Oh. My. Breath taking. I just bemoaned finishing the beautiful book to my husband. “I am not to be trusted with a book once I open it,” I said. I knew immediately I’d read this book too fast and then, having fallen in love with it, be sad to see it go.

My review is this: READ IT! And then push it into the hands of everyone you know. And then perhaps plant some Alyssum (worth beyond beauty), you know, just to remind yourself that you are :).

While in the Covid-19 lockdown, a web friend sent a message and told me to read this book. He said that as I was interested in gardening and flowers he was sure I would like it. I was not what I expected but once I read the first few pages I had to read the rest.

I am reading it slowly so I am only half way through the book and at this time I have no idea how it ends. You will have to buy it and read it yourself to find out what the ending is!.

This year, 2020, has been awful for us all but reading always helps. This beautifully written, well observed and utterly charming romance transports the reader into a world of love. Once you start with Mary Balogh it is almost impossible to stop.

The best is that unlike most books when finished there is more from this series and one can keep in touch with the much cherished characters. Highly recommended.

Mary balogh is the Queen of regency romance authors. Every book has characters you can’t help but fall in love with. You laugh with them in joyous moments and cry with them in their sad moments. Not since Barbara Cartland have I so enjoyed this genre.

I bought this book because I read that it was the prequel to the slightly books witch I have read one of and purchased the rest. It didnt feel like a prequel as It didnt really have any of the Characters form Slightly Married the only other one I have read so far.

I believe that the only character related to the Slightly Series who is in this book is Laruen. Who is only briefly mentioned in Slightly Married and has a large part in this book. Here is the book order: Prequel – One Night For Love Prequel – A Summer to Remember 1.

Also even thought this book was written after the others I think it is a great set up for the next book chronologically A Summer to remember as it introduces Lauren who you will feel for and long for good things for her.

Another amazing book in the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn! I love regency romance novels and this is right up my alley and goes perfectly with the other 7 books in the series! This story follows Francesca who is probably the least talked about Bridgerton sibling in the series so it made her all the more mysterious.

This one has a great bit of heart break but it makes the ending that much sweeter to read! This one has one of my favorite men in the entire series! She’s given such unique stories to each of the Bridgerton siblings and her writing style is easy and enjoyable! I will be re-reading these books for years to come!.

I bought this because of the Netflix Bridgerton series. I cannot really rate because I don’t read historical romances. I found the plot simple but if you are a fan of the genre you might love it. I really like the Netflix series and am looking forward to seeing all of them.

I enjoy the series better than the books.

As the last book I had to read in Julia Quinn’s most acclaimed Bridgerton series, I was truly delighted to discover I had left the best until last. As one who is more than a little partial to second chance at love stories, Michael Sterling had me completely enthralled by the end of page 2, when in describing meeting Francesca Bridgerton for the very first time: “.

he took one look at [her] and fell so fast and so hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. ” {swoon} Then lamented on the fact that he met her a mere 36 hours before she was set to marry his cousin, John {chest clench} So heartfelt and poignant, ‘When He Was Wicked” is one of Julia’s absolute best, so much so that I anticipate re-reading very soon.

Being quite an Anglophile myself, I was bound to enjoy A Fine Romance: Falling in Love With the English Countryside. This book consists of the author describing her journey with her husband on the Queen Mary cruise ship across the Atlantic to England, where they spent almost two months.

This all, of course, sounds like quite the dream, and I think that’s what’s so appealing about it. Her husband dotes on her and indulges her whims (visiting places she loves multiple times, etc), she has friends in various spots who offer her lodging in their charming cottages, she brings along a dozen-plus pieces of luggage, etc.

In short, it’s a way of travel I’ve never known, but it certainly sounds lovely! The look of the book itself is different — not printed, but handwritten. There are hand-drawn illustrations interspersed with photos and bits of memorabilia from the trip.

The descriptions are similar to those I make of my trips: the moments of sheer excitement at seeing locales one has previously only read about, the allusions to songs and bits of literature that relate to the spot.

There is beautiful description of the plants and nature there, and although God is never mentioned (which struck me as odd), the book kept bringing to mind God’s handiwork nonetheless. “Loverly” little journal which anyone who loves to travel, or who loves England, will enjoy.

Reading Susan Branch’s books is like talking to a good friend. She is engaging, sensitive, kind, intelligent and funny. I really enjoy her writing, love of adventure, food and creativity.

If you love Susan Branch, this book is a must-have. It’s hand-written! I was surprised and delighted by the photos, the description, the personal story told in Susan’s wonderfully warm voice. I was so surprised to open the book and see Susan’s familiar hand written script! This is a great book to give as a gift to any age woman, from teenager to grandmother! It’s as romantic as the old song the title borrows.

YES to this lovely book! The writing, the hand-drawn side watercolors, the photos. romantic, interesting, and delicious. If you have been to the English countryside, or just always wanted to go, you will adore this book, two months wandering the English countryside with Susan.

I enjoyed reading this book. Reading this sort of ‘happy’ type literature lightens my mood, by reducing my stress levels. The characters are believable and the emphasis is kindness and compassion. I would recommend all of Julia Quinn’s books, having only become a fan in the last few months after watching Bridgerton on Netflix.

Prefer the start and middle of this novel than the ending but still a pleasant read.

Loved it, a great read. I really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to reading more Julia Quinn’s books.

When I first started to read this through book, I had little anticipation of learning much or really enjoying it to the same extent as one does when one sits down for a cosy read of Heyer’s delicious novels.

However I found it better as I read further and learnt more of this fascinating era. It is well researched and was surprised to learn the author is an Aussie, (from Melbourne!) who like many of us is an Anglophile and deeply enamoured of all things English.

Well worth the read for clearer perspective on this era.

The Lost Castle by Kristy Cambron was not what I had expected when I started it, but it was wonderful. I had not looked into what the story was about, or even read the back of the cover, so I did not realize that it was a split-time story.

Now, if you’ve followed me for a little while you may know that I am NOT a fan of multiple time periods in one book. I think they’re confusing and jump around too much, not giving you adequate time to get to know the characters in each time period.

So I groaned aloud when I caught on that this book didn’t just have two different time periods to keep up with, it had three. I thought to myself, “This is going to be too much to juggle!” But I kept reading anyway, determined to give it a fair shot because I like Kristy Cambron’s writings.

I’m pleased to tell you that it paid off! The book weaves together the stories of a girl during the French revolution, one during World War II, and present day, all centering around the setting of a, you guessed it, “lost castle” in France.

(Within these three time periods, there are flashbacks, making it more like five or six different ones to keep up with. ) Being a big fan of the book and TV series “Poldark” and having just finished the book Code Name Verity, I was familiar with both the French revolution time period as well as the SOE operatives during WWII.

Despite my lack of fondness for split-time stories, this book was excellent. It is significantly easier to keep up with the time and characters if you read it over a short period of time. The characters draw you in and I found myself reading several chapters of one character and then going back and reading through the next character’s chapters instead of reading the book in the order it was written.

The story does a really good job of weaving itself together though and making sense, despite the jumping around. I would recommend this to historical fiction fans, as the historical aspects were fascinating.

Kristy Cambron has written a fairy tale that should go down in history! Who cares that this particular story is fiction? History books, you’ve been warned. *deadpan stare* The Lost Castle weaves together a present day search into the past, all the drama of a girl-on-the-run World War Two story, and the angst of the French Revolution.

The modern storyline built more off of the World War Two storyline, but you see beautiful hints of the French Revolution storyline peppered throughout them, too. The heroines are spunky and endearing.

While I especially loved Quinn, each of the heroes are dashing and worthy of a good swoon in their own unique ways. The gorgeous romance takes your breath away, and you may find yourself tearing up before you’ve reach the end of the novel.

As a fan of all things vintage, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Kristy Cambron’s novels and her vintage writing flare! The Lost Castle was no exception! The end result of these equally enchanting stories will have you blotting your eyes with the soul-deep knowing that something powerful, beautiful, and strong can stand the test of time.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK I enjoy reading books set in all different Eras, and this one takes readers on a historical journey to three wonderful places, and it’s all told from a Castle that holds many secrets of the three women in this story.

Ellie Carver’s grandmother has the answers to their family history but will she stay in her right mind long enough for Ellie to find these answers? I thoroughly loved joining Ellis in her journey to the Castle that would soon come to life and tell all of the secrets of women through the generations of time.

On our journey, we meet three different ladies for each Era and Kristy Cambron does her magic in weaving the time in history, as well as the women we met into an interest and intriguing tale that will stay with me for a long time.

I’m with some of the other reviewers, The Lost Castle is a classic, a Fairy Tale at its best! There is one thing I didn’t care for, and that is the inappropriate use of God’s name. For me, any use of His name other than the way the Bible uses it is just not right.

And that’s why the four stars. If you enjoy historical stories, The Lost Castle is one you will thoroughly enjoy. I received this book from TLC Tours to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Tessa Gray didn’t allow herself to be pushed around. Henry. I don’t know why. but I love him. Magnus Bane. As I said before, he’s bae Jessamine! She was sassy and so much fun! The plot is fast-paced; this book didn’t have any lulls! The world-building is incredible in this book.

You really feel like you’re in London and not in an American urban setting (like in the Mortal Instruments). Jem! I love that they included a diverse character This book has plot twists I didn’t see coming! The book is a good length; it isn’t so long that it becomes a chore to read.

It’s part of a series! On the other hand: The writing was not great in some section e. g instead of saying “we walked across the street”, this book would say “we all had walked across, in a diagonal way, to the other side of the street.

Tessa sometimes asked too many questions at the wrong times. I liked Henry, but he wasn’t extremely fleshed out. Charlotte was too young, she’s in over her head. Will is Jace. That’s an issue. The London Institute is so empty.

why? I thought the Silent Brothers never left the City of Bones? I struggled with some of the vocabulary in this book. The chapters are long; like.

Magical series with magical creatures nothing like you have ever read before. Highly well written to help the reader get lost in a strangely persuasive language. To hook the audience of all ages to visualise in you’re mind.

Cohesive throughout to make it increabily addictive to keep you invested in wanting to read more. Characters are used to well thought out and not easy to detect between good and bad. Which makes it highly exciting as you are unable to predict what is going to happen next.

Cassandra Clare is a exteamily talented at making the audience become aware of the magnificent world become unveiled before their eyes as the read.

In my opinion, this is one of Cassie Clare’s best Shadowhunter series. Even on multiple re-reads this book holds up and is just so enjoyable. The trilogy is heartwarming and gut wrenching at the same time.

You will suffer along with the characters but also enjoy every second of it. These books deserve all the hype they receive! Although if you are wondering whether to start with The Infernal Devices vs The Mortal Instruments, definitely follow publication order listed on Cassie Clare’s website, otherwise you will be spoiled for plot points in the other series.

Julie Garwood is one of the best when it comes to Highland Romances and this book is no exception. She captures your heart with her loyal and loving heroine Judith and sweeps you off your feet with the hero Laird Iain Maitlands.

Iain has a time of fighting his feelings for Judith because after all she is English! But in the fierce highlands Judith learns just how primitive the way of life there is when she finds herself “claimed” by the handsome laird.

It was the only way he could protect her. But will her “secret” tear them apart? Is his love strong enough to last when he finds out that she is the daughter of Laird Maclean, his worst enemy! Hot! This book is a wonderful journey into the Scottish highlands that you will hate to see end. But great news there is a sequel “The Ransom”, and you can read more about Judith and Iain.

This book is about an English lady named Judith who goes to help her friend -who lives in the Highlands-give birth to her first child. In the process Judith learns alot about herself and the man who brings her from England–Iain Maitland-Laird of the clan where here friend lives.

I LOVED this book. I could hardly put the book down. I have read quite a bit of Julie Garwood and so far-have never been let down. The ending are always the best and some of the elements are quite suprising.

I have read lots of romance books and in some of them I know exactly all the twist and turns and how it will turn out. Almost in all of the Garwood books I have read-I always get at least one suprise that I did fathem.

Plus -all of them end on a good note–which is one of my requirements when reading a book. I would highly recommend this book to someone who wants to get away from now and just enjoy a great book–with the knowledge that in the end-it will work out someway or somehow.

I personally love novels by Julie Garwood. I bought it having in mind how much I love her other books. And once again, I was captured by the marvelous adventure. Romance, action, drama, it has everything one could ever ask for in a book.

I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed!!.

One of my favorite Georgette Heyer romances, this book has it all: romance, adventure, mystery, and comedy! Highly recommended for fans of the Regency-era who want a clean read that’s just plain enjoyable!.

I purchased these books to give as a gift. They are written in the Victorian era and they’re very historical. These are a priced very well and have a nice size font for easy reading. Very good quality.

A Wreath of Snow embodies all these thoughts as one wraps the whole in a swatch of elegant paper wrapping and ties it up with a bow of twine.

Allow yourself the privilege to read the first paragraph and see if you are drawn into the story as much as I immediately delighted in the author’s way with words. In all her twenty-six years Meg Campbell had never been this cold.

Shivering inside her green woolen coat she passed the crowded shops of Murray Place as the snow fell thick and fast. She could only guess when the next train would depart for Edinburgh. Why had she not consulted her father’s railway schedule posted by the kitchen door? Because she left Albert Place in tears.

Because she left without even saying good-bye. Doesn’t it draw you in? Displaying a capture of a moment in time A Wreath of Snow includes only a couple of fateful days in 1894 for Meg Campbell and her family.

My!–what an interesting story that can take place in such a small span of time. In Stirling Scotland the Campbells at Albert Place intended to enjoy a wonderful Christmas together; events go awry when Meg’s brother Alan expresses his discontentment from years of suppressed bitterness.

When a frosty outpouring from the skies leaves the train tracks blocked Meg can’t escape her brother’s sharp words and family’s disgruntlement. While running from the strong feelings she runs right into a stranger who carries secrets and remorse under his winter coat instead of holiday surprises.

Only a provincial meeting could start the healing that all are needing to feel the Christmas spirit. I felt riveted through the duration of the entire book. Liz Curtis Higgs has a way with words — she brings them to life right on the page before your eyes.

In fact during a certain passage in the book she summarizes the character of a newspaper reporter in the same way I’d like to describe her if you will. When Higgs writes she possesses the hands of an artist whose medium (is) words.

(In the book this phrase stood out to me so well that I just had to return it as a compliment back to the one who penned the words. ) The dialogue is very realistic and the Scottish inflections are so natural.

I also enjoy how the author tastefully weaves scriptures and tidbits of Christian faith directly into the story so that it strengthens the main plot. For he saith to the snow Be thou on the earth. The stationmaster splayed his hands.

It would seem the Almighty wanted snow on Christmas Eve. No one could take umbrage with that statement. Not even Alan. As you read you’ll find it is thoroughly Victorian on every page in each breath the characters disclose.

By this statement I mean that the gentlemen are true gentlemen the ladies and true ladies everything is absolutely prim proper and just so. Traditions and morals are of the utmost importance and woe upon any who dares to disregard the elegant way of doing something.

Yes the story is perfectly marvelously Victorian. Definitely one of my favorite books I’ve read all year long. A sequel should be in order one would hope. It was winter; the night was very dark; the air extraordinary clear and cold and sweet with the purity of forests.

For the making of a story here were fine conditions. (Robert Louis Stevenson).

I like simple, heart warming stories, but this story was short on romance and long on cliches. As L M Montgomery, D E Stevenson, and others have amply shown, it’s possible to write touching stories about everyday occurrences.

Cramming in a multitude of poor promises, predictable plot twists, guilty consciouses, and half truths was entirely unnecessary. Instead of taking time to flesh out the characters, this story rushes from plot point to plot point.

The result is a story that feels hurried and ill considered.

A Wreath Of Snow Is an engaging story. How so? Well I’m glad you asked. It takes you to a time when hearth and truth and CHRIST was looked on as dignified and right – can you imagine? – being right by loving your SAVIOR.

What a grand idea. Ms. Higgs really knows how to bring you back in time and truly make you feel like you’re there when you hear a phone go off while reading – for a second you’d be discombobulated – I was – to funny – you will be transformed and transfixed and be glad you did.

It was the last book of a series I was reading they were all really good. I like the romance and the adventure of how they rescued the people out being of being captured by men making them dig diamonds.

Another good book from Stephanie Laurens, couldn’t put it down. Part of a series of 4 books, so I am looking forward to the other three.
