17 Best Vinyl Plank Underlayment (2022 Updated)

We had installed this under an SPC flooring with pad attached. Quietwalk says it will work under this type of flooring. We had noticed our flooring breaking at the locks and unhinging over a few months as well as a spongey feeling while walking on it.

I had reached out to quiet walk. They had us pay for an inspector ,$500 out of pocket, to check the problem. The inspector said it was installation as well as the underlay contributing to the problem.

They denied paying for anything. 2 Months later we had made the difficult choice to rip the underlay out and again be without a floor for about a week. IT FIXED THE PROBLEM!! Should have never used this product and I am warning anyone else to avoid this at all costs with Pad attached SPC!!.

Quality product that significantly decreased the hollow sound of walking across the floor while providing a pleasant little cushion to the vinyl tile surface under-foot. Provides another degree of separation from the concrete pad.

Fast and simple install. Made noticeable improvements and pleased with the result. Did the complete basement floor with it and recommend. Would use it again without hesitation.

Excellent underlayment product, great price. Has to be ordered from Home Depot online, not carried in the store. Delivery to store for pickup was quick – only 4 days & well worth the wait. I highly recommend this product.

I find with underlayment, it typically likes to bulge and bunch up when flooring is placed on top of it. I didn’t run into this issue with Soundbuffer. This underlayment gave a smooth layout with little to no problems.

It was used in upstairs bedrooms because we could hear so much walking around and jumping from the kids right along with their video games and shouting. After installing underlayment from Soundbuffer all the noise seems to have calmed to a whisper.

I’m a big fan of this product and plan to use it all throughout the house during the remodel. Thank you!.

I have been in the process of replacing my living room floor with new wood planking. I was looking for underlayment to buffer the sound in the large open room. I was able to get this ungerlayment for luxury plank flooring so I installed this with the flooring.

I was very pleased to see how easy this layer down and the quality of the product. The great part is, it really does create a great sound buffer compared to other products I have used in the past. I am very happy with this underlayment and would purchase it again.

I recently remodeled my bathroom and used this underlayment under my vinyl floor. It was very easy to cut and install. Before installing I can hear creaks in the basement but after installation I hear none.

My floor has a softer feel while walking on it without having a bounce back. I am very happy with my purchase.

Great product, easy to install, the floor is very quiet. Great price too. The material is high quality felt like fibre that is very firm and supports the laminate well. Our subfloor was not very smooth and the Quietwalk covered the imperfections perfectly.

This underlayment is good quality at a great price. I am using it under some vinyl plank flooring and it works great and is super easy to install. Lowe’s costed. 30 cents a square foot for almost as good product.

You can’t go wrong with this product. The seller bulk shipped 5 rolls in a big box with no problems. I highly recommend this product.

Description is accurate. Annoying Con is the paper instruction that is sticky taped to product, it rips the product when you try to remove it from roll. Would buy again.

My husband is re doing our floor and we figured we’d give one a try. He said that he liked that it had a very easy peel strip so you can stick the extra strip of plastic to the next piece. The directions are easy to follow and the underlayment cuts with scissors or a box knife.

It is easy to work with and is a good value. It also does truly help with the volume as well as we have a basement below, so walking and running on that is annoying. So needless to say we will be buying more for the other rooms.

I really enjoyed the QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment from QuietWalk LV. For this product, I just layed it down on my floor and let me tell you. it works wonders. My children are LOUD and they walk very heavy.

After laying this stuff down on my floor you can not hear any sounds, whatsoever. You can’t even tell that they are walking around or are even there, at that. While walking on it, I noticed right away on how soft it is.

It has insulation on the underlayment, making it smooth as a baby’s bottom. It’s so comfortable and that’s a plus for me because my feet are always in so much pain. I will recommend this product to my family and friends.

The Quietwalk luxury vinyl underlayment is a really great product. We used ours in a playhouse we were building in the backyard and it has turned out to be a really great find. This underlayment has less noise and it has a little cushion under your feet.

it also has a dry-wick technology that helps keep the floor dry. It was very easy to install. It has a built-in seam seal. It is made from recycled materials. I love this product and I would definitely recommend for anyone that is putting down a new flooring.

I was super excited when I tried out the QuietWalk mat. I decided to place it under the rugs in my bathroom. I have two teenage girls at home and they always go in the restroom late at night. The majority of the time I’m woken by them stomping too loud.

This QuietWalk mat definitely came in handy. Ever since I’ve placed the mat I have finally been able to get a full nights sleep. This was exactly what was needed in my home. I received this product for my honest and open opinion.

This underlayment is so easy to lay down. I put it under the laminate flooring I was laying in a spare room. I had no problems installing this. Once installed, the laminate flooring went over it without a problem.

I can tell the difference in having the underlayment when someone is walking in the room. I cannot hear anyone walking in the room where it is but I can hear them in rooms where there isnt any. I will be putting this under all the laminate flooring in my home as I renovate.

After reviewing a variety of options we decuded to go for Quietwalk underlay for our second floor bedroom laminate flooring project. Home Depot offered the best price and we ordered the products. Surprised to see the product being shipped from the manufacturer in USA.

Well received and the installationwas quick and easy. The noise levels are absultely minimal after installation of 12mm laminate and we are very pleased with the results. Though the cost was nearly twice that of cheap chinese made underlays, we felt that the cost was well worth the quality.

This was the first time using this underlayment; it’s much sturdier and thicker than some of the other underlayment that I’m accustomed to using. The side that rests on the concrete reminds me of carpet padding, just not as spongy.

The side that the flooring rests on is an orange, rubber-like coating. I did notice a slight odor when rolling out the underlayment; however this smell quickly dissipated within a couple a minutes. I didn’t have problems cutting the material to size or marking with a permanent marker.

I used duct tape to bind the seams together as indicated on the instructions on the back of the roll overall this product met all expectations.

Installed in a loft over a plywood floor. It is definitely quiet and it also provides some forgiveness when the floor is not quite level so it is worth the money. Easy to work with and saves you time in the long run.

We could not be happier with the hickory vinyl plank flooring. We finished our basement with it. The quality seems to be top notch. The textured embossing is excellent. So far it’s held up to chips of drywall, caulk, and metal wire fragments being swept across it or stepped on.

No scratches at all. I’m sure dragging heavy furniture over it would scratch it, but so far it is way more scratch resistant than cheaper options. It’s very satisfying to touch and walk on. We put a cheap layer of squishy plastic underlayment down first.

The cork backing on the planks is so good we didn’t bother with a pricier underlayment. We paired the hickory with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter wall paint for the main areas. It’s boring and very common, but it does look great.

Then we have a blue office and yellow bathroom. Those colors also look excellent with the flooring.

This flooring is gorgeous! We have used a number of different LVP products on investment homes but went with this COREtec for our sons totally remodeled 3 story row home. We put this throughout the home and it looks amazing! Installation was easy and zero issues with the quality or having chipped edges in boxes etc that we have dealt with before! Will definitely be using COREtec again!.

I was a little apprehensive about the purchase, due to the fact I would be using it under Garage Trac snap together tiles in the garage, but my dreams came true. It went down easy and feels thick to the touch.

It doesn’t tear easy, but you still need to watch it when sliding around on it—-mostly your shoes. The Plastic tiles laid flat on the underlayment and were easy to stomp on and snap together, without damaging the underlayment.

Only minor indentations were made at points of impact, but went away after a few minutes, so I carried on! The floor looks great and with the underlayment it feels great as well! It is quiet when walking on it and has a bit of cushion to it and the weight of moving heavy cabinets, 800 lb.

Motorcycle and my car rolling in and out of the garage and parking in one spot for several days at a time have not seemed to bother it. Also, i can walk on the floor barefoot now without freezing my feet! It was a toss up between this and rubber, but the rubber was too expensive, so I took a chance with this (after extensive research, of course) and I am very glad that I did!!! Only time will tell how well it holds up, but for now; I am extremely satisfied and would recommend this for the garage or especially inside your home.

I have been a builder for forty years and we installed 900 feet of flooring in our personal home using this padding This is an excellent product very good firm padding for click flooring and about 1/3 the cost of any other comparable product I have found.

It seems to be the same as the orange padding at Home Depot.

Went down without a hitch. Did not need the extra layer of moisture barrier with the underlayment. Provides comfort and sound barrier on the floor. Would use this product again.

Used in basement installation with LVP flooring and it was easy to install and provided great vapor barrier and a bit of padding. This underlayment was very cost-effective compared to others I compared when shopping.

Project turned out great! I will definitely use this product again on future projects.

I’m glad I discovered this product. It’s much better than the product I was previously using. My contractor that’s installing the LVP flooring likes it too. I plan to buy more for future rehab projects I have planned.

Generally this seems to be a good product. It came with a “V” shaped tear with each arm about 1 1/2 inches that extended through several layers as I unrolled it. I did have a hard time squaring it at times.

I stapled 1 corner and maybe due to slight stretching it always seemed to bunch up some when I got to the 3rd and 4th corners. It seems sturdy though. It’s only been in place about a week so who knows.

Overall I’m satisfied and don’t anticipate any problems.

The application installation video is great for a rectangular room where the flooring is at 90 degrees to the walls. If the ends of the planks are not 90 degrees to length of the plank, it made pulling the plank lengthwise to snap the ends together impossible.

Damaged a lot of material trying to make it work. After a lot of experimenting I found other methods to install the planks that worked for my application. Additional information on how to install the material in non standard (square) applications would have been helpful.

After I learned different ways to install the material, the job came out nice. If this is your first time installing this particular material’s locking system and any of the end cuts will be on an angle other than 90 degrees, practice or start in an obscure area until you learn an installation method that works for you.

I will hold the final opinion of this produce until after observing how it reacts to the first summer of use.

Worked great. In hindsight we should have gotten a thicker underlayment because the vinyl tiles we used are thinner.

Great vapor barrier for a low price, gives your laminates a much better feel under foot. Great price compared to inferior underlayments.

My wife and I installed this Life Proof Dusk Cherry flooring as our first DIY flooring project. It went in so well, and looks so great, that my wife is now looking at where else we might install it. That is always a good sign! Details: 7 planks per package.

Mixture of four design “pictures” that go in both directions, so eight variations overall. Texture on plank surface matches with the grain of the plank designs making the look and feel very realistic.

Instructions say to ensure that all packages are from one run number (shown on box) and during installation to mix planks from different boxes. We designed our layout on paper, arranged and labelled the planks by design and then began installation (on a clean and relatively smooth OSB base floor).

Scribe and turn plank over and bend plank backwards to snap/cut worked great. Some planks required a little filing of the solid core cut edge after snapping. We used a workbench vice to support plank cuts along the long side and for short cuts.

We used a hand saw/coping saw for some complex cuts (better than the vibrations of a jigsaw). Purchased a Roberts Pro Flooring Installation Kit at HD (see separate review) to assist in installation. If you ever find you need to remove the last row you installed, even after locking, you can carefully lift the open edge of the planks along the whole row and then lift out the entire row.

You can then slide individual plank pieces out along the short side. We originally thought we would have preferred planks with micro-bevels, but these look great as you can still distinguish the variations between the plank designs.

The planks are amazingly precisely cut and there are virtually no gaps between planks along the long or short edges. Watch the online videos for some good insights before tackling your first flooring project.

Couldn’t have asked for an easier LVP floor to install for my first go. I love that each plank has all the different layers built-in and I didn’t need to purchase separate underlayment or anything like that.

I opted to cut them using a mitre saw and oscillating multi-tool – the guide recommends score-and-snap but they felt too thick to easily do that without losing a finger so I opted to use the tools I already owned.

My only two tips are to make sure each channel is clean before pushing the pieces together, I found sometimes a small spec of construction dirt or dust would get in there and the pieces wouldn’t sit together perfectly (I kept a brush nearby and brushed out each channel before pushing two pieces together), and also build yourself a wooden template to hit if you need to use force to get pieces to sit together properly so you aren’t hitting the channel that snaps into the next piece (those seemed to break and bend easily when hit with a mallet).

Our bathroom floor gets LOTS of compliments – this is a sharp looking floor and worth the money over cheaper LVP.

Purchased rhis flooring as a first time do it your self project. It had great reviews and there are many utube videos for guidance. Since I had never laid any kind of flooring before and I am just learning how to use power tools I ran into a few minor issues but nothing that was the fault of the product it was just a learning curve for me.

It has been in my room for 2 months now and I love the product. I am planning on ordering enough to complete a second room in my home.

But the reviews being left regarding quality are accurate. The floors will not withstand even a miniscule change in elevation of the subfloor. Want to know why I find myself here to leave this review? Buying replacement planks for those that have already succumbed.

I have a few to replace now but I know I am going to need a few more boxes as the years wear on. Still worth it? Hard to say. Yes, because its already down?.

Definitely made my purchase easier. Shipping was great, our planks came in perfect condition. Absolutely obsessed with these floors and I’m so excited for them :).

Overall, I am happy with how the flooring turned out, however, I do have a couple of gripes. There was really only 5 different patterns, or rather, one long repeating pattern cut into 5 boards. This made it incredibly time consuming to make sure the boards were laid randomly enough so that none of the same were right next to each other.

Many boxes contained literally all boards that were the exact same pattern. I’m guessing that’s the primary reason for the minimum square footage for each order. A couple boxes arrived severely damaged, however, those were replaced with almost no questions asked by BD.

The flooring seems like it will hold up very well, and it all locked together pretty well for the most part and the other parts of installation (cutting, etc) were fairly simple.

Easy to lay down and cut. Seam taping system is easy to use and secures well. Only downfall is that some areas of the foam beads came loose while cutting and make a mess.

We had not problems with this order. It was sent in a timely fashion. Although we are still waiting for installation by our carpenter, I don’t expect any difficulty.

It’s easy to install and you can sweep, mop and vacuum this flooring. It has the look and feel of natural hardwood. It is a DIY job because it’s as easy as clicking it in place. There’s no need to prep your existing floor and it requires no adhesives.

It really compliments my room. My existing floor had water damage and needed to be replaced in some areas. So, I decided on replacing the whole floor with this. This is waterproof so I don’t have to worry about my little ones wasting something and the floor swelling up.

As far as durability, only time will tell. but as of now, I most definitely recommend you give this a try.
