20 Best Vitamins For Chickens (2022 Updated)

Purchased this for a supplement for my chickens during this horrific heat wave we are having. my chickens, well some of them, are still laying during triple digits and all seem to be fairing well. They do free range half of the day and have access to other water sources, but I put this supplement in the water in their pen.

I had a shipment of chicks arrive. One of them I thought was DOA but was barely alive. I was positive she would die shortly but being a very expensive cream legbar I wanted to try to save her. I reached out for advice and was told to try Sav A Chick electrolyte and probiotic.

I dipped her beak into the water mix a few times because she was too weak to drink herself. The next day she had made a complete turn around. She looks like a new chick! It has really helped with pasty butt too.

Just for reference. I tried 3 times to purchase and thought it was out of date. I called the actual company. It is a manufacturing date and good for 24 months after that date. It does say that on the package in VERY small print.

I bought this vitamins for chiclen and ducks. mix it in a water and my birds love it. I notice birds become happier, they eat better. and look healfier. also it brings chicks to life if they become sick.

I use vitamins and medicine and this combination heal birds faster in comparison of medicine with out vitamins.

I bought this because they were out of the single packs. There are no clear directions for mixing for say, a gallon of water. This is meant for stock tank size but we made due. I have 4 chickens and 3 ducks.

We have had relentless heat and we needed something as we lost one chicken to the heat and my birds were panting. I ended up adding just 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, everyone seems to be fine.

I had a rooster with a really bad staph infection on his knees. He was very lethargic and limping, and I had prior experience working in a vet clinic so I decided to treat him myself. I used Vetyricyn and Blue-Kote for his external wounds while I used the Poultry Cell to give his immune system a much-needed boost.

I gave him 3 mLs every other day for a week and after his isolated recovery in our chicken ICU (ie; our master bathroom with a bathtub), he was walking normally and trying to fight his reflection in the mirror.

I now use this supplement in our flock’s water tank and will give it directly to any chicken who looks like they’re lethargic via an oral syringe.

I am new to chicken raising and have never encountered wry neck before. I had 2 chicks born with it and was told to get nutridrench. It wasn’t in stock and I couldn’t get it online with a week, so I was told this would be the next recommendation.

Rooster Booster top dress vitamin pellets, have kept my flock very happy, and healthy during the hot temps, and brutal winter temps both. I use it year round, daily in their feed. This is not the Rooster Booster powder vitamins, and Electrolytes, that you put in water, for heat stress, or during illness.

This Rooster Booster Product is pellets, of so many good vitamins, calcium, minerals, amino acids, and probiotics. The description doesn’t mention it contains probiotics, but the ingredients do. Mixed in with daily feed, and my flock and roosters love it! They eat all of their feed.

None is left. They are very healthy, and happy, even in the recent 105* heat! I started using this Product a few years ago, on the recommendation of a local Poultry farmer. Like him, I can’t say enough good things about this product! If you want a healthy flock, with beautiful colors, and excellent eggs year round, here is your go to!.

I got this when I was purchasing items for my furtive chickens. I use it now in their starter feed. I like the idea of added nutrition. Whatever I can give them to help them grow and be healthy. I use this with the vitamin and probiotic water solution.

On my third bottle of this stuff and wow does it really work. I noticed a difference in my flock after about 2 weeks so of use. Egg production is at an all time high not only that but they physically appear to be in better health as well.

Recommended to me by several “Backyard Chicken Keepers” Started using for my chicks from 1 week old. They have a choice of their, “Gatoraid” or plain fresh water, or water with some Apple Cider Vinegar; 24/7/365.

Their preference is the Rooster Booster supplemented water. 10 Easter Egger Chicks. Had 1 that appeared to be weak for the first week, but after just a few days on this water and medicated feed, she was back up and strong.

Pretty good stuff. I mix it into my chickens’ water everyday. I live in a very hot climate where it frequently is in the 100-115 degree heat range during summer. One thing I read is that electrolytes help chickens deal with the heat.

This is definitely not a panacea and you should use other methods to help your chickens with their daily dietary needs and heat protection (calcium fortified feed/oyster shells, grit for their crop health).

Rooster Booster is definitely a decent supplement in my amateur opinion. Obviously you should strictly adhere to the advice of the manufacturer and on the label in administering this to your chickens.

I love this stuff. It comes with a lot in the jar. I have barely used that much and have used it for 11 chickens so far. I gave it to them as one option of water with a plain water option for the first week I got them.

I had three that had pasty butt issues I truly feel that this stuff helped them to not have it anymore. I swear by it and I’m actually using this now on my new rooster that I got. I also plan to use it when I put my chicks out in the coop.

This product does what it says. The vitamins really help make even my elderly ladies’ color look better, and my hens love the flavor. They peck at the bottle while I’m serving it. I thought it was kind of expensive at first, but a little goes a long way.

This stuff is awesome! My chickens were missing a lot of feathers and looked kind of scruffy. Put 1/2 Qt with 50 lbs of feed and within a week noticed fluffy, healthy looking chickens not missing their feathers!.

I rescued 10 Ex-battery hens four days ago and they are already starting to show pinfeathers after feeding with this product. A must have to help bring them back to good health. 2 Thumbs up. I also gave a tiny amount to the baby chicks and their feathers are coming along a little quicker and shiny too.

I didn’t realize it was such a small bottle when I ordered it, this bottle is only enough for about 20 gal and took a few weeks to get delivered. Not sure if it was worth the price and wait

I use it when making a wet feed mash and the birds love it! One of the best deals on a pretty clean probiotic supplement. Probiotics for poultry can help eliminate the need for additional treatments by protecting the healthy balance of flora in the gut.

They are my go to for regaining and maintaining health; they can be used as treatment and prevention. Really important as a restorative after copper or other antibiotic (natural or otherwise) It has really helped as part of the treatment protocol for sourcrop too.

I’ve been having issues with my ducks laying soft and broken eggs even though they have high quality food and oyster shell. They liked this vitamin and had no problem eating it, but it didn’t do anything to help my egg problem.

Rooster Booster Poultry Booster did a lot more to help with their soft eggs. I would recommend that product over this one.

I started out with the 2lb containers but once I witnessed the quality of eggs and started going with the 10lb. I had a few girls laying some soft shell eggs and its been a few weeks since that. I check the quality daily and i am very happy with the results.

I use this for almost every species of animal. Recently picked up a bag when I had a sick baby goat and needed to get electrolytes into him quickly. This is easy to use, easy to measure, easy to dissolve into a bottle and give to anything.

Also works really well on poultry. Definitely recommend having it on hand at all times.

We have successfully raised many flocks, and always give the babies this probiotic and their electrolyte blend. Our semi-local Tractor Supply (50 miles away) is the only store that sells Sav-a-Chick within 200 miles.

I went there September 1, 2021, to pick up some Sav-a-Chick for our incoming chicks, and found that every single pack had a sell-by date from April to October 2020. Yes, the manufacturer says “best when used within 24 months of date on the package,” but probiotics definitely die off during that time.

I expect a store and company to have better quality standards. We’re almost 3/4 through the year, I should be able to find one pack dated within the current year.

3 out of the first 5 newborn chicks I ever bought, came down with pasty butt. It was a pain to keep their tiny fuzzy butts clean and it’s a potentially dangerous problem too. I did some researching and found that hen raised chicks rarely have pasty butt, probably due to eating their mom’s droppings soon after they hatch and getting the beneficial digestive bacteria.

Since then, I have added this supplement along with the Sav-A-Chick electrolyte and vitamin supplement in the water for the chicks I’ve hatched in my incubator. I never experienced pasty butt again!.

WOW! We had a chicken that was injured and pecked on by the others. We separated it and gave her penicillin but was very concerned. She was slow and digressing. I read that someone gave them this and picked them up the next day.

We gave her 1 mil every 8 hours by mouth. Within 48 hours of giving this to her, she did a 180! We gave it to her 4 times and maybe it’s a coincedence but she is a new chicken with energy and perked her up!.

However, birds, especially parrots and cockateils can be picky eaters, and bird seed, especially if not fresh (you can check this by seeing if it sprouts after a few days in some damp/wet paper towels) can leave their diet lacking.

This leads to any number of potential problems and in a bird, who typically will hide problems until it is too late, this is a big deal. Great nutrition with a variety of fruits, veggies, and protein is the solution.

But what if your sweet (on not so sweet 🙂 parrot is tossing seed everywhere, and leaves you wondering – are they getting enough of what they need to stay healthy? Having tried several “cheaper” liquid vitamins on the market from big box pet stores, I have found them lacking.

Usually they are liquid and have to be put into water, or on wet foods, the taste does not suit all birds. Further by comparison, the nutrients in Nekton are outstanding. The other brands do not stand up to the scrutiny, and are my last choice only if my Nekton has run out and am waiting for a new supply.

I am not an avian expert by profession, but I have had parrots and cockateils in my life for the past 20 years and by far, the best thing I ever did was, at the suggestion of an Avian Specialist Vet, switch over to Nekton products.

At first I was put off by the price. But then I realized how far even a little I needed to use. That made the price very fair for the quality of Nekton is amazing. A little goes a long way, and an average bottle of the powdered vitamins and nutrients will last you a very long time.

(Depending upon how many feathered friends you have:) TIP: use a fork to piece holes in the seal on the bottle – it allows for great control when you shake out what you need. Everyone is different and some like the little tiny scoop that comes in the bottle.

I just find it is easier with the shake method. As far as what to add Nekton to, you are in luck as it easily mixes with all types of foods you will be serving your feathered friends. From soft, to seed, it is easily added and the birds seem to like the taste or not even notice it.

This is a good thing! Especially for those picky ones we love! Remember Nekton has a few different types of vitamins, some general, some that assist if birds are mating and need that extra help in nesting season, and also I have seen a feather specific one, that helps during molt or with a bird that is feather picking.

Look at the one you purchase to ensure it is appropriate for your needs. For me the General Vitamin formula – Nekton S works well and covers all issues, including a “feather picker” I fostered for a while.

I started using Nekton S back a few years ago when Blairs Super Preen became unavailable. I was skeptical at first but Nekton S is readily accepted by all of my conures, ‘tiels, lovebirds and larger parrots.

I sprinkle it on soft food but I also sprinkle it on their seem mix. Their feather quality is wonderful and it seems that the more anxious parrots of my flock have calmed down. I did not expect that but it is very apparent.

I am very pleased with the results and will buy this product again.

Nekton is the only vitamin I will ever give my birds, New bottle every 2 months. This product keeps them healthy feathers bright and supplements for what they may miss in there regular diet. I read the other reviews about this product being difficult to dissolve in water and thought, oh, well, I’ll just let it sit over night. but no, for real, folks: this product is straight-up not water-soluble.

By stirring, you can agitate the water enough that it gets cloudy, but as soon as the water settles, the powder sinks to the bottom. The dye that they use to color the powder DOES dissolve, turning the water an off-putting yellow that my cockatiel wouldn’t go near, but the actual nutritional stuff just ended up coating the bowl.

So a bunch of people may think they’re giving their birds a nutritional supplement, when actually all they’re giving them is yellow water. Totally irresponsible.

My parakeets suddenly have good flight now. They were just hopping around at first and could barley get back inside the birdcage. I’ve had to lower the cage to the floor for them to get back inside. Not anymore! They can fly upward to the birdcage.

I believe this multivitamin has contributed to their strength and wellness. I sprinkle this multivitamin over the food every other day.

I was very disappointed to discover this powder stays on the bottom, and even on the sides of my cockatiels’ water dish. I stirred and stirred; it was maybe 1/2 dissolved. The 2nd time, I tried putting it in a little hot water and stirring – a lot.

It didn’t dissolve any better that way either. I haven’t used it since.

So far my cocktail likes it. Hes very old now. Its important that he gets vitamins and Oasis Vita-Drops are water soluble so he can drinking his water and get his vitamins at the same time.

The vitamin drops are a great addition to my birds diet. I’m so glad Petco carries this because PetSmart doesn’t.

I just started giving this to my cockatiel 2 weeks ago. So far they seem to be helping her. I use this everyday in her drinking water. Fresh vegetables (organic)is always the best way to make sure your bird gets its nutrition.

My neighbor has hens, so to repay her for all the fresh eggs, I gave her a bag of hydro-hen. The hens gulped it down! It quickly dissolved, and with the heat, they loved the cool water. Before we knew it, POOF!, all gone! She’s going to keep purchasing it because she loves the way it perks them up as they were being very sluggish, but this seems to get them to drink more and keep them well hydrated and give them what they need to be healthy (oh, and that means more eggs for me).

Our hen loves this. In the summer he here in Arizona it keeps our hen extra hydrated to withstand the brutal heat. Mix little bit of this in with her water and it’s like happy hour after all it’s always happy hour somewhere.

I also noticed with this mix in her water she plucks at her feathers less. I would say this is our hens favorite cocktail mixture. Highly recommend.

It has a sweet smell like a vanilla scent. I always put some seeds in their water but it seems like they went after this mix a lot more. This summer has been unusual and hotter at times it shouldn’t be.

My chickens have been producing more since introducing them to the hydro hen. Thankful to this company for making something to help out the hard times.

I purchased this for my Cockateil who had lost his main feathers on his actual body. top and chest. Vets had no idea what issue was. but using this everyday along with a healthy fresh chop. he has already started to regenerate new feathers! I have always used Vetafarm products and will continue to do so.

I have been using this dietary supplement for years in my cockatiel’s water as directed. Each year he experiences very little moulting and as a consequence my bird is a ‘happy chappy’ – he no longer looks ‘lanky’ nor gets ‘cranky’ because of excessive moulting.

I have recommended its use to friends with an Indian Ringneck and they too are amazed. I highly recommend this product.
