20 Best Waffle Fry Cutter (2022 Updated)

I bought the tower fry cutter for making fresh fries in my air fryer. It makes the fries far more uniform in size than I can do when cutting by hand. I’ve made fries with and without peeling the potatoes.

I think it’s much easier to do the peeled ones. I also like that it is a very compact unit as compared to other fry cutters. Be aware that it does take some force to push through the potatoes. For peeled potatoes, I gave it a two handed push to get it started and on the 2nd push it went straight through the potato.

With unpeeled potatoes, I had to give it multiple 2 handed pushes.

Great product as described. Video helpful in terms of jabbing potatoes, cleaning, etc. Also works well for those who cut and dice potatoes and other vegetables for various hot and cold dishes. This does not mean placing soft vegetables like too ripened tomatoes and such will not squish, instead, because they will.

Elements of common sense required. Using it for block cheese’s works, just know hot water and a soft, not too large, toothbrush helps cleaning the cheese smudges.

I got this January 2021, and at first it worked great. Although warning, you do need to apply LOTS of pressure ( I use my elbow) to cut the potato. After like 5 uses the blade turned in and would not allow the potatoes to be cut anymore/ device wouldn’t close properly.

I called the manufacturer and they sent in a new piece. Now I have encountered this problem again. Not worth getting another piece and it takes forever. I would invest in a better fry cutter than buying this.

Bought this to facilitate making French fries after we bought our new air fryer. No complaints and it works great. The cutter makes it is so much less work and eliminates the risk of cutting ones finger while trying to cut fries.

Now we eat real potatoes and not frozen French fries.

This works just like I was hoping it would. Potato on top, press down, repeat. I haven’t tried an onion yet, but it worked very well for carrots too. I would give this machine 5 stars but it only comes with one size cut for your fries.

It would be great if you could snap out the large grid for a smaller one to make “shoestring” fries. Otherwise, a great purchase for a fair price.

It took a while to figure it out, but I realized that the best and easiest way to get the potatoes through the blade is to cut an end off each potato to flatten it, then sit the flattened portion on the cutter blade.

That way, a greater surface area of the potato contacts cutter blade and makes pushing the potato through A LOT easier. Of course, this did not yield the longest fries, but they were even cooked up well, with a bit of salt and olive oil, in the air fryer.

It makes perfect waffle fries, decretive apple slices and radishes, cucumbers and rainbow carrots for salads. I have a mandolin made by the company, so I have a safety holder that I would highly recommend.

To use this Waffle Cutter, you need the guard. The Guard is a separate purchase. The Waffle Cutter is fantastic, WORKS GREAT!!! I purchased the Borner Mandoline, which includes the Guard that can be used with the Waffle Cutter.

The Mandoline has different functions. Combining the two (Waffle Maker & Mandoline) you have it ALL to complete all the slicing you will need to do.

I have a bunch of various mandolins and slide slicers and all of them are made sturdier than this waffle cutter and all of them are stain resistant. I tried out this waffle cutter with carrots and the carrot stain won’t come out.

Blade doesn’t seem real sharp because comparing to my inexpensive side slicers or even my budget mandolin something like a carrot glides threw easily and on this waffle cutter it is more work. I can see why they suggest to use with a safety for your hands because you can get hurt using this one.

My fry cutter arrived fast and in perfect working order. This review is intended for individuals who, like me, arrived here looking for a good working fry cutter that is not made out of cheap plastic and will accept a large whole russet potato.

Firstly this unit is designed for commercial use by professionals who are trained in proper safety and use of hazardous equipment. Use common sensible safety measures with this cutter! There is no direct method of locking down the handle.

If you are intending to use this in your home with small children, REMOVE the cutting blades AND handle assembly to ensure safety when not in use. This style of cutter could easily cut off a small child’s finger(s) if mishandled! Even solely the handle and push plate assembly with the blades removed!! You could also severely injure yourself if handled carelessly.

Among many other obvious things for example, NEVER try to clean the blades with them installed on the unit!Secondly I would recommend this cutter to anyone who wants a fry cutter that will probably last as long as replacement blades are available and long after if taken care of.

Mounted vertically to a solid surface this cutter outperforms ANY cheap plastic “heavy duty fry cutter” that is available from various markets. Put together properly it is built strong, and mounted vertically, it easily cuts a whole russet potato with little effort, so long as it is not larger than the cutting blade.

This will accept a large potato unlike any of the many various types of plastic versions. You can drop any part and it will not break. Care must be taken not to damage the cutting blades just as with any cutting tool.

The business side of the blades are sharp and in no way dull like a butter knife as described in one of the many reviews I read before purchasing this unit. I dip my clean dry blade assemblies in clean vegetable oil, let them drain in the top of a bowl that they fit just inside of, and then wrap them with a terry cloth for storage.

This virtually eliminates any possibility of rust and keeps the blades sharper longer. It naturally takes the proper leverage in order to push the potato through, so don’t expect to just plop it on your counter top and magically have it spit out fries.

Unless you are fairly strong and can help help support the base to keep it solid, it will be difficult for the average housewife to use. Mounted vertically at the right height however, it takes very little time and effort to make a huge pile of fries.

I weigh less than 180 lbs with a very bad back and I do little more than simply lean on the handle to make it easily cut a large potato clean through with one stroke. Lastly, for the price and options available, I personally have never seen or used a better fry cutter than this one and I have used many of the “plastic heavy duty” models that all fall utterly short in every way with the exception that this unit is large and not easily stored in a small space without taking it apart.

I don’t mind this and see it as only a small inconvenience well worth trading over the frustration of trying to use an inferior product. So all of you fry lovers out there looking at buying this, don’t bother looking any farther for the best fry cutter for a good price because this is it.

PS; Webstaurant, I have devised a simple cheap effective way to lock the handle down and also a way to vertically mount solidly, yet easily remove the unit as a whole, leaving only a very small permanent profile.

I love making french fries, but this is just hard to use. You are REQUIRED to clamp or bolt this to a hard surface, such as a counter-top or heavy table in order to use this correctly. (Failure to do so will make using the machine almost impossible, as the handle requires a lot of force to push down, which will cause the machine to raise up off the table, negating any force that might be applied to the potato.

) A light table will lift up when you use it, and don’t even try it with a plastic table. (You will damage the table!) I see they recently came out with a model with suction cups. I cannot attest to how this will change things, but if those suction cups aren’t properly attached each time you use the machine, they will basically become useless, and you will have to clamp the device down again.

Once properly clamped, or otherwise secured, place your potato in the slide, then use all your weight to pull the arm down in order to force the potato through the blades. If the potato becomes stuck, then you need to slam the arm down several times in order to force the entire potato through, damaging some of the fries.

No matter the size, the blades will quickly dull with use, requiring even more force to be used. There is no easy way to sharpen the blades, especially at the smaller sizes, which means needing to buy another blade and push block.

The Push block is hard to clean, especially at smaller sizes. Potato gets mashed into it, causing a rather bad mess, and quite a bit of time with a knife picking all the potato ends out of it. The rest of the machine disassembles easily for quick & easy cleaning.

Despite all of this, it still makes french fries pretty nicely, but in the future, I might skip using this and just cut them by hand. If you need a machine to cut your fries, I recommend getting either an electric one, or a pneumatic one.

Manual ones are physically taxing.

The item arrived in a timely manner, but the box it came in was poorly tapped ! The bolts necessary to connect the handle to the main unit were missing ! They wanted me to send pictures !. What ?? It only has 2 bolts for this purpose and they couldn’t figure out which two.

of two. to send me ??! No thanks ! A quick trip to the hardware store solved my issue, but added to the final cost ! The stick on film that covers the stainless backing that holds the potato, is impossible to get off ! I still haven’t been able to remove it despite scrubbing and a razor ! It’s still stuck on portions of the stainless ! You’d think they’d make that easier to remove ! Overall, a pain in the butt ! Next option.

a propane torch to melt it off ! The potatoes cut easily enough, but you must secure this to the wall with some heavy duty studs in them ! The amount of force needed to push the handle down to cut the fries is considerable, necessitating a strong bond to a wall !.

I hated it. It was hard to cut the potatoes. I cut a small potato in half and struggled to get the potato to go through, and when it went through it came out shoe string style. My husband who is big and strong could not even get the potatoes to slice.

It was big and heavy. I am now having a hard time trying to get a mail label to send the product back to get a refund. I would “NOT”recommend this product to anyone.

I purchased this item because I got tired of hand cutting fries everytime I wanted some. I was able to put an entire five pound bag of potatoes through this cutter in less than two minutes. All of the fries come out very uniform and they look awesome.

The heavy metal design makes cutting the fries really easy on your body as you don’t have to use a ton of strength to get top notch results.

This fry cutter is the only one you’ll ever need in your restaurant! It is a total beast! We had the rubber covering on the handle fail, but that’s life. As long as you grease the vertical slides once in a while, you’ll never have a problem with this tool.

I wholeheartedly recommend it. We press 1000 pounds of fries a week; sometimes twice that during the summer. It’s still just as good as when we bought it.

This French fry cutter is perfect for making LARGE batches of fries. However it is a pain to clean. Skins get caught in the grate and the push bar. I have to use a pick to get into all the small cracks to clean it properly.

The 2 bolts holding the blade must be removed to clean as well. If you don’t, you’ll be leaving behind a lot of stuff you’ll regret later on.

Super solid construction. It slides strong. The bottom support plate won’t budge or bend during use. The handle is comfortable to grip while slicing potatoes. I’ll feel confident in buying other shaped blades if the need arises.

I bought this French Fry Cutter after searching the web for a decent product at a fair price. This is it! I really never expected this top level of quality. The entire cutter is heavy duty, large in size, with extremely sharp cutting edges.

The arm slides effortlessly into the potato for perfect, full-bodied, fries. It looks and performs more like a commercial tool. Look no further! I highly recommend this awesome product. You will love it, too!.

First of all, I purchased this unit to cut sweet potatoes. It does NOT. Does work well on other potatoes. The workmanship is poor. The bolt that holds the knob on the end of the handle was fully rusted and the paint was stained with rust.

The casting is rough and the flat bars that move the handle were mis-drilled making one longer than the other. You cannot tighten the feet because the bolt spins in the rubber cup. The milling on the cutter plates is uneven and rough.

With my first report of rust, LEM said they had not encountered this issue before and asked for additional pics of the issues. I took the time to do just that. No reply, not even a “thank you” for doing so.

I wasn’t expecting anything in return, just showing them that they had some manufacturing quality control issues. I have other LEM products and am satisfied with their performance. But I cannot recommend this cutter for the two reasons reviewed.

performance and quality.

I had heard about a number of French. Fry cutters that would keep jamming and not work very well. This equipment is totally different. I have not only done potatoes, put worked fine on onions. It’s not cheap, but the old saying rings true-you get what you pay for.

This thing is a blast to use & just like all of our other LEM products, it’s 100% quality built. Heads-up if trying sweet potatoes though, you’ll need to quarter them up if using the smaller cutting plate.

Can’t ever see us buying fries again.

I am crippled and many things I have had to push off to others to do. This fry cutter lets me help prepare fries again. Websturant offers many great products at very good prices. If you need a fry cutter this is the one for you.

Pushing potatoes through are a ton easier then standing and cutting them with a knife. Very good buy!.

What a wonderful purchase. Nothing better then fresh home french fries. Put a potato ?? into the tray of the fry cutter. It could not be any easier with a pull of the lever and whilla. Beautiful evenly cut french fries ready to be cooked.

Have been using the past month and it makes very short work of white potatoes and apples. Very heavy duty and easy to assemble and disassemble. Sometimes the cutting grate can be a little difficult to clean if potato skins are allowed to dry on them.

Bought the optional metal bracket so can slide on and off the wall for easy cleaning.

This thing is great. I feared that it would be difficult to clean but as shown in the picture I’ve provided, you can simply remove the cutblade attachment and it’s really easy to clean. I highly recommend that you mount it on a wall (with wall hanger 55641 if you want to remove it easily).

I doubt it works with sweet potatoes since it still requires quite a bit of effort with large russet potatoes that are quite firm. The blade is super sharp on one side only which is great. My initial thought was to get a cheaper unit but the short stroke on this one is great (see other picture) I thought it would be overkill for home use and some would say it is but it works great and my kids will inherit it! Now, I’m tempted to buy a few more cutblades to go with it.

Well made, heavy duty cutter that will make fresh french fry cut potatoes for years to come. Just find a sturdy place to mount the base (preferably vertically) because it takes a good deal of force to slice large potatoes and mounting in a position that allows you to use your weight on the handle helps a lot.

Great tool to use. Obvious, use extreme caution when cleaning blade, use a brush. After almost 4 months of use and several pounds of potatoes cut, blade is still sharp. Thanks Nemco, your product was worth every penny!!!!.

We love this fry cutter! We retired a different model after many, many years in service. This cuts medium sized potatoes with ease for our hand-cut fries. The rubberized grip makes using this unit more comfortable, and it mounts nicely with the wall bracket.

We cut the fries directly into a bucket! Nothing beats a hand-cut fry, and this cutter is the best one we have used.

The cutter seems solid. The body is hardend plastic. It is very sharp and cut potatoes into fries very well. You will get 2 sizes to cut your veggies. I felt the price was good. The only challenge will be the size of vegetable it can cut.

The compartment that hold the vegetable is 2 7/16 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches long. Anyhting larger that that you’ll have to trim down. Although I wish it could handle larger items I still do recommend it.

This is an easy to use and easy to clean unit. So far it has held up nicely. I showed my boyfriend how to use it, so now it has become even easier for me 🙂 But both of us enjoy using it. It makes making french fries very easy, and we bake them, so as to not get extra oil in our diets.

Wash the potato’s, send them through this cutter, spray them with a little olive oil, add some spices, and put on a lined cookies sheet and in the oven. It really is very easy and you can flavor them however you like, and even flavor some one way and some another way.

The cutter is sturdy, and cut through everything we sent its way. Some of the larger potato’s we cut in half, then sent them through. The handle feels pretty sturdy, and at least so far, no bend in the metal.

I will be getting another one of these in the future, for my son and his girlfriend.

It does exactly as what I ordered it to do — Cuts uniform fries! And anything you’d like to be cubed really. Easy to clean, easy to switch out cutting plates. There’s even a guard to not slice your skin into messy chunks.

There are a few cons: it can use a longer handle to make it easier to push vegetables through(I’m talking potatoes) and it’s a bit on the small side. Anything too long and you’ll have to slice it in half to make it fit.

All in all, I do recommend for both value and utility.

This has been a work horse for us for a year and a half. we finally had to replace the plastic threaded piece it uses to push the potatoes into the blade. parts are cheap and available. except for the main aluminum housing where one the the arms broke off at the threads inside of when we went to replace the plastic part.

now we are buying a whole new unit, because all in all it was reliable, and with proper technique i think the arm would have come free easier. however the threaded part wouldn’t even come with a reverse threaded tap screw remover.

frustrated but satisfied at the same time. dang it!.

I’m on the fence. This is a great idea and would be a great money maker at any event with kids, adults too maybe. The problem is that it doesn’t come with a base so you have to attach it to your work surface or buy a base for it.

The potatoes tend to rip in between ribbons and doesn’t always twist an entire potato in one continuous piece. I still use it but recommend figuring out where and how to mount it before buying.

WoW!! I have yearned for another Tater Twister for years, but they were discontinued. Now I’m glad they were. This unit is amazingly easy to use, cleans up in a snap. I struggled for a few days to decide whether to get this spiral cutter, or the Nemco straight french fry cutter.

I’m certainly happy with my decision to get the Nemco Spiral Cutter. As an added Bonus, it’s really fun to use too.

the product is sturdy and well made but does not work well. The blade is not sharp enough to cut potato. A tremendous amount of force needed to pull lever to attempt to cut the potato and even then only worked soso.

We\’ve tried whole potatos and cutting them in half and neither way worked. Extremely disappointing and likely will get little to no use in the future.

The taters cutting blades are cheap and break easily. The unit when cutting taters has too much shift and lossens off easily which adds to the frustration.

I like the item. I only wish that it came with more grates so the I could make different sizes of fries. I know I can order it separately, but would have been nice if it was included. or at least a 2 grates.

We bought this fry cutter based on a recommendation from my brother. We had previously been doing frozen McCain French fries in our air fryer, but using fresh potatoes makes all the difference in the world.

Giving four stars rather than five, as the device is a bit tricky to set up, and using it requires some serious elbow grease. But I have found that it is easier if I cut off the ends of the potatoes before trying to push them through.

The blade that comes with the device makes the perfect sized fries for our tastes.

It only has a 4 step assembly that I found easy. You need needle nose pliers and a small flat blade screwdriver. If you already have these tools you will probably be fine. It is soon much easier than the cheap fry cutter I used to use.

I think I could run it over with a truck and it would be fine. I assume I will be able to hand this beast down to future generations.

I used a Cabela’s brand cutter that was much less expensive and of lesser quality than this one for a number of years. It eventually bit the dust so I wanted something heavier duty. This was definitely it.

Although it does take up some space, it’s well worth having to get the job done easy. Some have mentioned that it doesn’t always cut well. With our old fry cutter, I was used to cutting bigger potatoes in half.

I still do that with this one and it makes cutting and cleaning really easy. The smaller ones you just throw in, pull the handle and you’re done. You could do this with bigger potatoes, too, it’s just a little more pressure on the handle (which it will totally handle) and a little more clean up.

I have total confidence in this thing for years to come, no matter the size of the spud.
