20 Best Waistpack For Hiking (2022 Updated)

I bought this as a Mothers Day gift for my mom. With that said, she said she loves it. Assuming that means everything fits the way its supposed to. It’s unfortunate I couldn’t find this in stores but I hope this review helps someone else!.

I bought three of these fanny packs for my Son. He said they are the best fanny pack he has ever had. Lots of pockets and very comfortable to wear. He uses a fanny pack all the time and the zippers break or something else goes wrong.

He has bought fanny packs that cost a lot more that aren’t made as well as these FREETOO packs. My Son is very, very happy with these.

After 7 years of daily use and service it’s time to replace my steadfast friend, my Tempest 6, and nothing else will do but another just the same. My original has lost some of its structure, is irrevocably dirty, and has faded out to an unappealing color.

I hate to say goodbye to it. As you can see from the photos I haven’t put the new one on the trails yet, but have noticed a few changes: The front buckle is more robust, but that means it will be more difficult to tie my whistle on the ends of those straps.

The carry / grab handle up top is tiny, which I don’t like. The side pockets seem a little bigger, which is appreciated. I remove the Airscape panel myself, but you might like it. It’s very comfortable for a four hour hike and holds everything I need: gloves, hat, sunscreen, snack, small flashlight, first aid supplies, tissues, and nothing you don’t need.

HIghly, highly recommend!.

I bought this to use as a daysack on holiday as my usual daysack is quite a bit bigger etc. It fits in my large rucksack without taking up much room and holds food, extra layer and water when in use; all the essentials for a day trip but not much space for ‘just in case’ items! The hipbelt pockets are a decent size so useful for storing small items you need regular access to, and the side pockets take Camelbak water bottles.

The straps are a good size and its easily adjustable. I would prefer a front mesh pocket as they’re really handy, and trampoline style mesh ventilation would also make the talon/tempest range even better.

There aren’t that many fully ventilated hiking backpacks out there! Also, Osprey’s sizing is confusing (they say XS/S or M/L) because there is overlap between the 2 bags, so if you’re at the upper limit of the XS/S size, you’ll fit the larger bag too, which means gaining the full 9L capacity (unless its changed and both size bags are now 9L?).

This lumber pack is so very comfortable for me. I have neck and spine issues that prevent me from wearing a backpack. I have tried a couple of fanny packs but nothing that performs this well and provides such comfort for long periods.

It even feels great if I only carry one water bottle in it – no lopsided discomfort. I really like that I don’t get too hot where the pack sits against my lower back. A bit sweaty definitely but nothing compared to a shoulder pack.

The wrap around (hip) straps are very padded and the ergonomic design means that the pack doesn’t bounce around even if I do! Holds so many items. The hip pockets even fit my iPhone 12 which is huge – it’s so accessible now and I’m able to reach for it quickly when that photo opportunity crops up.

I bought an Osprey horizontal 1. 5L hydration bladder for it and use it interchangeably depending on my needs. It is not designed to use a bladder but I rigged it so easily. Really happy I found this by chance at my local REI.

I purchased this when I had to start carrying a spare pair of prescription eyeglasses and two large key fobs. I was using the medium size Fjallraven Ulvo hip pack. I loved it, but it was no longer large enough.

This is just as comfortable, durable, (same Bergshell fabric), easy to carry despite being 2 liters larger. I love the white waterproof lining. Easy to see items and easy to clean. I can fit my Fjallraven zip wallet in the back outside pocket.

I have my ear buds and a Swiss Army knife in the left side mesh pocket, lip balm, bandaids, and small tube of neosporin in the right mesh pocket. My iPhone SE fits in the zipped mesh pocket. I’ve still got plenty of room for that eyeglass case, huge key fobs, a small hairbrush, a gel hand sanitizer, a spray hand sanitizer, a pack of wipes, a pack of gum, tissues, 2 face masks, and there’s still room for more if necessary.

I like to carry it as a sling bag. It’s quite easy to adjust and comfortable to wear. Most times I forget I’m wearing it. Plus I’m hands free. Love the compression straps at the bottom to lash a sweatshirt/jacket.

I love Fjallraven bags. I’ve got a bit of a collection. This one is definitely my favorite. I’ve been using it daily for approximately 8 months. The Ulvo also cleans up easily. I got something on the outside of the bag.

Fjallraven recommends spot cleaning. I cleaned the spot with some mild soap and a washcloth and it came right out. I love this style so much I have it in black, navy, and dark lava. The dark lava is my favorite! I highly recommend this bag to anyone needing a hip pack that can accommodate a bit more than 1-2 liters.

It’s also functional for hikes or as your EDC!.

I needed a waist pouch-type bag that was kinda on the large side. After a lot of research I decided that I’d found one, but its buckle was flimsy and it was expensive. I returned it and found this one.

I am really impressed with FjallRaven products: well-made, excellent fabrics, and with good attention to detail. This bag is simple: it’s basically just one pouch that I can wear cross-body (my preference) or around the waist, but I think it’s a bit large for the waist.

I can fit my mirrorless camera with a basic (55mm) lens and still have room for other essentials. There are 3 small pockets inside and another on the back. The fabric is nice to touch and waterproof (well, it seems so).

Anyway, I quite like this bag and it was quite reasonably priced, too.

I got the Hip Pack Medium and the 4L models and will be keeping this larger version. Both come with the same materials (thick/sturdy looks like it will hold up over time very well, goes for the buckles/zippers too).

However the strap is wider on the 4L and I think will be more comfortable, especially if wearing as a shoulder/sling bag. The interior zipper pocket is also a nice difference between the two models. Zipper is a tiny bit awkward to open but could work as an advantage, as it results in a controlled/slower opening rather than immediately jump from closed to 100% open and having your stuff fall out.

The cinch straps are nice adds to help reduce the bulk if you’re not filling it all the way. It looks like you can pack this thing quite a bit fuller than the Medium. Plan on using this for longer walks with kids, won’t handle multiple water bottles but it will easily hold phone/wallet/sunscreen/hand sanitizer/etc/etc.

and gives some flexibility in how my wife and I each choose to wear it. Nice simple yet versatile bag. Oh and haven’t tested the claim that this is waterproof, but that was a big draw as well.

Here is my review of this bag from a Bushcrafter’s point of view. This is my primary pack for bushcrafting, whether going out for the day, or up to a three days trip This bag would be perfect AS IS for Every Day Carry; however, after using this bag for a couple years, there are a few improvements I could make to it for bushcrafting use: 1) Make the main compartment about two inches deeper from front to back, and make it compressable—the current depth limits your gear choices for Bushcrafting; 2) Split the front compartment into two compartments and make it extend a couple inches outward to save space on the inside (because the more you put in the front compartment the more room it takes away from the main compartment).

To compensate for this I added two small pouches onto the webbing on the front of the bag; 3) Make the bottle holders a little deeper to compensate larger nalgine bottles; but optionally you can add some shock cord to go around the lid of larger bottles to hold then secure; 4) I would also like to see them make a bag that can be added onto the top that attaches to the harness, for carrying additional food and gear for longer trips (this one improvement would transform the lumbar pack into a long duration bag)—as the bag is now, I always have to carry an additional bag for food on trips longer than one day; 5) A lot of people complain that one of the hip supports doesn’t have a compartment on it.

However I found a better solution by sewing some molly webbing onto the empty unused space, which I can use to attach a dump pouch, or any other pouch I wish. This bag has room for improvements; however I still haven’t found a Bushcrafting bag that I like as much as this.

I literally take it out in the woods at least once every two weeks. It has held up very well, and it holds all of my primary bushcraft gear. —Rx.

Have had larger Mountainsmith lumbar packs for years. Wanted something mid sized. Happy with water bottle holders. They carry my 32 oz Hydro Flasks about right. A little tight but do not want them to slip out.

Construction is heavy duty and well made. Back and waist strap padding is very good. Square shaped front bungee is very adaptable and appreciate the 2 rows of attachment loops on the front. Front pocket is tight if the main sections are fairly full but still useful.

The padded inner separation is not particularly useful for me and would prefer without since I do not carry a notepad. Just adds extra weight. It does not really get in the way and is not a big deal.

I wonder how many hikers actually need a protected compartment? In the same vane, the strap pockets are not useful to carry my phone since they are made for small phones. Can use them for food bars, etc.

though. Since the pack has upper and lower adjustment straps on the main strap I am able to keep it firmly against my body even with a full water bottle and even though the pack is somewhat tall. I like that it has to hand carrying straps.

Less chance of things falling out when I am just carrying it around to car, etc. I doubt that I will ever use the neck strap. Have never found the need even with the full sized MS Lumbar packs. If I’m going to have straps around my neck or shoulders I would rather just use one of my conventional packs.

I doubt any pack is perfect but this suits my needs very well. Been hiking for years and know what works for me. Despite hiking with MS larger waist packs several times a week for years never had any failure or much wear.

SUPERLATIVE as a modern take on the physicians Medical Bag. Far more roomy than it looks from the outside. I have successfully transferred ALL of the gear from my Timberland full sized roll-top into this thing, and still have room for my bento-box lunch kit and a water bottle.

Scrubs, steth, trauma shears, pen-light, pens, pencils, sharpener, toiletries, spare eyeglasses in case, wallet, 12. 9″ iPad Pro in a Logitech keyboard cover,(JUST squeaked that into the compartment, 4mm more room would have been GEM).

and I LOVE the over-the-shoulder with waist-belt style of carry, so much more ergonomic than the big ol’ Timberland backpack hanging off my shoulder. AND IT HAS ALL THESE LOOPY PLACES TO HOOK CARABINERS TO!!!!! How can you not love that??? Lots of pockets and zip compartments and excellent bungie closures.

Not as heavy as the big bag, so it’s just plain better. For the longest time, I was like, “why is my STUFF so heavy, it’s not like I have a plumbers kit in here!”, not really giving credit to the BAG itself as a weight factor.

(BUH! When I’m camping I know this. ) Anyway. I can see this as being marvellous as a photography gear bag too. I found a set of strapettes on Amazon that I can attach if I want to go full-on backpacker, but now, after trying this out as is, I may not feel it all that necessary.

Less likely to whack others when turning around on mass transit. Where has this been all my life??? Seriously. This will be one of those, “and he never looked back”, dealie-ohs. I’ll be down for another, if this ever drops again.

I bought mine in December of 2019 in preparation for an upcoming trek in Fuegian Patagonia for field work. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made, hands down. It’s the perfect size for everything you need to have right on hand.

For the airport, I can fit my travel wallet, chargers, earbuds, phone, a few snacks, small notebook, pen, etc, and it makes it so easy to safely store and access your passport and boarding passes. For trekking/hiking, it easily fits phone, keys, small wallet for the necessities, bear spray, field book, pen, hand lens, brunton compass, sample bags, matches, lighter, knife, emergency medication bottle and creams.

And of course it’s great for an everyday “purse” or for a concert or just exploring a city! The little mesh pockets inside are useful, I have only had things come out of them and into the main part once or twice and it’s because they were small and the bag was basically empty.

Even when it’s completely full, it isn’t very bulky, and the material is light-weight but incredibly durable. Easy to clean, mine has no stains. And the straps are so adjustable, I have measured and it would fit up to around 50-52″ I think, give or take.

I use mine for everything, and I find it very visually appealing as well. I don’t think they make (or REI doesn’t sell) the colorway I have anymore, but I really don’t think you could go wrong buying this.

It’s been all over the world with me, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Do yourself a favor and buy this!.

Who knew that fanny – pardon me – hip packs would become cool again? I think a hip pack is a great way to carry all of our daily stuff without resorting to stuffing our pockets. Sure, men have purses and European men have shoulder bags but American men, in particular, need something for our overly thick wallets, glasses, keys, oversized phones and whatever else we take with us for the day.

The Bataan is a nice-sized bag that will carry all of this along with room for a small camera or even a nutrition bar. The shape is such that there’s plenty of room but between the colors and the boxier shape its not particularly subtle.

Its also reconstructed, meaning that there isn’t any supporting material or cushioning. Personally, I prefer the Kapai line due to the tapered profile and the lightly padded sleeve and backing material.

But, this is still a really good option. Again, as with other Del Dia products, you have to be willing to spin the wheel and live with the color choices they make; I think that’s a benefit but keep in mind that its means that if you’re trying to hide your fanny pack, you’re looking at the wrong bag.

The bottom line is this, go bold, brighten up your day and unload your pockets at the same time. Whether you’re running errands or spending the day walking about, this is a great way to carry your necessities with a touch of flair.

I bought the Bataan 3L Fanny Pack with the intention of using it primarily on our family trip to La Fortuna, for keeping the essentials close by without the hassle of a purse. I was hesitant at first because, as a child of the 80s/90s, I honestly think fanny packs should have never come back in style! Enter Bataan 3L.

This little pack is so dang cute, I immediately ditched my go-to purse for the entirety of the summer – not just the trip – and am not sure I’ll ever go back. The pack went above and beyond my expectations for Costa Rica – great size (I could fit my entire raincoat in it, which was a constant necessity with the unpredictable daily monsoons!), durable, awesome colors (even my I-only-wear-navy-or-black-husband asked to borrow it one day).

And it hasn’t left my side for day-to-day momming activities all summer to keep me hands-free (amusement parks, swim meets, the grocery store). I highly recommend wearing it cross-body. My ONLY complaint is that after only about 2 months of use, the little Cotopaxi llama decal is already starting to peel off.

Otherwise? I suppose fanny packs are okay after all!.

For the price, I think the quality is acceptable. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart anytime soon. I stuffed my phone, wallet, keys, pocketknife, and airpods in it – that’s about the limit of what it will comfortably hold.

But that’s also all I was expecting to carry. The backside is nicely padded and the zippers appear to be of decent quality and work well. Assuming the overall size works for your intended purpose, I only see a few minor issues.

One, the key clip seems pretty flimsy. I don’t expect it to last. The strap isn’t very long – if you’re a bit round around the middle, beware. Last, the strap is slippery. If I sling it over my shoulder it likes to slide around.

Overall I’m pleased. If they made the same exact thing in a 2L version I’d buy one to have a larger option too.

I ordered this pack because it is so lightweight and looked as if it could hold my phone and a few things on longer runs this summer. For example, a small collapsible water bottle. I wore it on my low back and it definitely bounced with the water in it, which is typical so I wasn’t too upset.

It also kept rounding my waist to the front so I had to continue knocking it back to my low back. The waist straps weren’t as heavy duty as I had hoped and the clasp, tightening system wasn’t all that spectacular.

All in all, it’s a good little pack for day to day or maybe hiking at a walking speed. I was please that it could store quite a bit, and the padding on the back was comfortable. And it’s cool colors, so there’s that.

Maybe it’s just not meant to be worn for running. I’ll definitely hang onto it and try it with a bike ride or hike to see if that’s where it shines.

This thing is awesome for walks and other small excursions where you need to carry a little more than will fit in your pockets. I use this frequently for dog walks to carry a leash, a roll of bags, and a very small (500ml) water bottle.

I really love this thing but have to dock it one start for the strap and buckle. The strap seems to loosen over time which isn’t the end of the world but is a little annoying. The buckle is super lightweight and mine cracked, not sure how— it certainly hasn’t been subject to much abuse.

The buckle still clips so it’s all good for now, and it should be easily replaceable if it finally goes. Would still recommend the pack though!.

Nice product. I had a few expectations that weren’t exactly met but that’s not a bad thing. I originally wanted the 2litre but it was out of stock. I’m glad I got the 4litre as it is smaller than I expected.

I thought that it would be a little over my desired size but it’s perfect. I also expected the bag to be rubbery and thick. Instead, the bag is like a stiffer tent material. With well glued joints, solid feeling zippers, plenty of adjustment on the waist strap.

I’m really pleased with the product on the whole, I cannot wait to get out on the water with it.

Great waist pack. Waterproof inner pocket. Non waterproof zip pocket. Nice drink holder on the side. Main dry bag area. great for suncream, inspect spray, lip balm, keys, and waterways licence. Good materials, belt easy to adjust, don’t really feel it on.

Good overall product.

This is my third Overboard waist pack, not to say that they are poor quality. The first did have a fault and was replaced outside of warranty by OB. The replacement has now met its day after years of abuse, so on to this one.

The design has changed again with the addition of a small outer change pocket and it feels better again from the previous models. It still has the drinks pouch and is not see through any more which is fine for me.

This pack WIL keep your valuables dry whist out on your motorbike or whatever your chosen use is, good insurance for todays expensive phones!.

I like to carry all my important documents, cash, cards, etc. in a waist pack while traveling. I love that this pack has a zippered mesh compartment in the larger pocket where I can fit my passport. The clasp is on the side, not on the very back of the belt like other waist packs I’ve had.

This makes the Day Lite comfortable when sitting down, and I always worry about theft so I like that the buckle is tucked away. The back is nicely padded and the shape of the pack distributes weight well.

This is a very thoughtfully designed and durable pack, as expected from Osprey.

grey lumbar /waist bag that goes along with my osprey 9L valkyrie backpack. great for urban walking and trekking. big enough to fit a small camera, mobile phone, keys, small purse, hotel key card. etc.

can be worn as an across body sling or as a waist bag. i hope they could had put more partitions , but m not complaining as the design is so minimalist.

I bought this bag to hold essentials on a multi day canoe trip this summer. It was the perfect size to hold snacks, a small first aid kit, sunscreen, kleenex and identification. The larger pouch has a clip to hold car keys, and a small interior mesh pocket for valuables.

The bag conveniently clipped to the canoe seat, or around my waist to ensure I had everything I needed handy at all times!.

I wanted to like this item. Good build quality. Looks good. Simple design. Small profile so it’s easy to wear under your shirt. This is perfect for someone going on a leisure hike or walk. So I have a 31-32 waist, I tightened it to its lowest position on both sides and put in just my car key fob and my cell phone in this pouch.

Hiking down to the trail was nice because it wasn’t high impact movement, stayed in place. No issues. Once I began my actual run I noticed that it would bounce with my movements and kind’ve wiggle it’s way down and I found myself having to constantly fidget with it during my run.

I tried rotating it to different positions around my waist but regardless of its orientation it would still slowly drop because of the running movement. The only way it worked was if I tucked the corner of the pouch into the garter around my waist, also at once point I remember trying to wear it across my chest as if it was a satchel strap since this would be the only way it wouldn’t drop during the running movement.

Another thing is the clasps that allow you to tighten or loosen the straps on both sides does not stay in place, like previously mentioned I had them at the lowest (tightest) position to assure it would be secure around my waist but after running for not too long theywould begin to slip and loosen up.

Like I said in the beginning, I wanted to like it. Already put roughly 10 miles on it but I can tell it just wasn’t what I expected. Still usable just not for any running.

Pretty nice sport waist belt pack for $4. 99. However, I would like it MUCH better if it had a wider, less elastic waist band because the weight of my smartphone and any other contents does tend to overpower the waist band and result in sagging and/or bouncing while power walking, hiking, running, etc.

I also don’t like the large metal zipper pulls. Despite these flaws, for $4. 99 this is a pretty good inexpensive sports waist pack.

Product as described. It has a main zippered compartment that can fit a large smartphone. My iPhone XR fits with room to spare. Within main pocket is a suspended slot for a card/ID or cash. Side pocket with velcro can fit a small set of keys, but not a large set.

Other side has expanding strap-like material that could work for energy gels (for long-distance runs). Material is neoprene type material.

Super small. Even too small for my 6 yr old. My kid uses it on her 18 inch doll. It fits a lip gloss and a small trinket , nothing else. Only 5 inches across and 3 inches in height. It’s more like a toy.

And of course, it’s extremely cheaply made.

These are BIG fanny packs. Look at the dimension and determine if they are right for you. They were exactly what I was looking for. Big, roomy, holds a lot of gear for a day hike. Construction seems solid.

If you have a smaller waist, you will need to snip the belt to make tighter adjustments. Overall it’s a great, larger sized pack. Love it!.

I bought the same one 4-5 years ago and it had a much better strap that did not slip. This one slips and I have to wear it all day. Hmm. Wish they would go back to the sturdier strap that was a bit wider and of heavier material.

Before you buy, you must understand that this is smaller than your run of the mill hip pack. Intentionally so. I bought it to take to The Masters practice round to carry a few small items including a very compact camera, sharpie, etc.

It easily carries my iPhone 12 Pro. If you have the larger sized brick (Max) that you need to carry in it, you need a regular sized pack. I love this one because I don’t want to carry 2 lbs on my hip, just a few items for a day hike.

It neatly folds into itself to a small size that is easy to pack. Im a male with a 34 inch waist, and I have to extend the belt almost to its limit. so if you are larger than 34, this won’t work for you.

I used this hip bag with a friend while travelling 2 years on a bicycle across South America, I used it off the bicycle for hiking and walking around the villages, cities. The material is great, waterproof, the different color options are nice and unique, however in 2022, today, this bag seems a bit lefr behind in time.

Why? Well, it is so small (1l) that it is hard to put a phone + small travel wallet in ir. In my opinion it need redesign (only a tinny bit), to be a bit bigger (maybe 1,3l), so that today’s phone that are quite large can fit inside without fiddling with a zipper.

I would keep it the way it is only make it 2cm longer to extend a tinny bit the volume. In that way it would still stay minimalistic and practical.

I was looking for a low profile sling to discretely carry the covid extras that won’t fit in my pockets and this appeared to fit the bill. Pros: fairly low profile compared to the others MEC sells. Simple two pouch design which I like.

The buckle being located at the end of the strap instead of the middle means if you’re wearing this with a backpack the buckle won’t dig into your back. Cons: the only real gripes I have with this sling is the thin strap, which when the sling is loaded it teeters and it isn’t flush on your body.

Also, the strap tends to rub on your neck of you’re not wearing a collared shirt. It would be nice if there was a bit of padding or extra material to mitigate this.

Bought this primarily for work, but wanted one that would be useful day-to-day too. Perfect size for work (nursing): holds all the stuff that was spilling out of my pockets without being too big (the one this is replacing was a little too small), with the front pocket being the perfect size for keeping my personal phone separate from all the patient care stuff.

Good size for daily use too. Big enough to hold necessary things but not so big that it’ll get heavy.

Bought it a year ago at Boarders, this was the only Jansport they had. I planned to use it to go snowboarding. It worked great, I loved it started using it on hikes, beach days & everyday errands. I wish it had a liner pocket to separate the small items so it can be easier to find.

It is very spacious, I was able to fit all my essential items when I was outdoors. Believe it or not a can of beer fits in the fanny pack leaving my hands free. The weight of the bag creates a sag look.

A year later the fanny pack looks brand new, I wish boards carried a variety of Jansport fanny pack.

Perfect minimalist bag for mountain biking I was initially using my jogging hydration backpack before this and got tired of the sweaty back situation. Plus it was never easy to get my stuff out of the bag without detaching it first.

So when I saw this bag I decided to make the switch. So far, I’m glad that I did! Everything is well thought out in this bag. I’ve been out for a couple of rides with it and I can already say that it is comfortable and barely noticeable while riding (I’m a size 32 waist).

It is stable and does not bounce around either. At 2 litres, it is not the biggest bag out there (they make bigger ones if that’s your thing), yet somehow I manage to fit all my gear, equipment and snacks in it, with room to spare.

Gear & equipment list: – Mini tire pump – Tubeless repair kit (plugger tool and “Bacon strips”) * – Two tire levers – Mini multi-tool – 4 zip ties – Action camera – Mini DIY first aid kit – Mini hand disinfectant – Car key (there’s even a clip for it so you won’t lose your key!) – Wallet or just my cards in a Ziploc bag – Samsung Galaxy S20 FE phone with a protective case.

It goes in the dedicated zipped pouch (this is a very handy feature if you want your phone easily accessible, yet out of the way while riding!) Snacks: – One or two cliff bars – Small bag of gummy bears 🙂 Hydration: – One or two water bottles in the dedicated side pouches *I also carry a spare tube, but that is attached to my bike with a mini carrier velcro strap thingy.

I could probably fit it in the pouch. but then my gummy bears will taste like rubber :’D.

I love this fanny pack! It’s got so many great design features and is so much better than a backpack style. Eight reasons I love this product: One: because it sits around your waist, you don’t get the full hot, sweaty back that you would get from wearing a backpack.

Two: If you need something out of the pack, you can just swivel it on your waist. This is so much easier and faster than having to take your backpack off and put it back on again throughout the day. Three: my bike only has one water bottle holder, so the extra two holders on the pack are not only much appreciated, they are also well designed.

The retention straps are also appreciated. So far they have prevented any unwanted water bottle ejections on gnarly single track. Four: the dedicated phone pocket is just SO convenient. I’m constantly pulling out my phone to check Trailforks or Strava and this pocket makes that process quick and easy.

Five: There is just enogh room inside for a tube, pump, bars, tools or an extra layer. Six: love the retention straps on the outside for stowing my knee pads on the way up. I wish I was one of those riders who doesn’t need protective gear, but I do—more often than not.

Seven: gotta love the Camo colour. Eight: price is reasonable and the build quality seems great.

The new Hot Laps 2L is a great lightweight minimalist pack. I also have the previous version of the Hot Laps 2L which was a good pack. The updates to the new pack make it truly great! The internal storage pockets and straps in the main compartment give you space to secure a mini-pump, multi-tool, and other assorted items.

The addition of a second stow-able water bottle pockets really makes this pack an option for longer rides. The additional gear straps are also fantastic options. The the material that pack is made from is also more robust and appears to repel water/sweat better than the previous model.

The back panel that sits against your back has also been improved. I’ve worn this pack on some very hot and sweaty rides, and I haven’t managed to sweat through the back panel of the new model. This was a common occurrence on the previous version.

The separate soft lined pocket is great for a phone or glasses. It fits my large format iPhone XR even with a Lifeproof case on it. If you have a friend to hand your old Hot Laps 2L down to, this one is definitely worth the upgrade.

It’s a great value for the price. I did have one of the snaps on the stow-able water bottle pockets break right out of the box. Dakine worked with me to immediately replace the pack. I’ve had ZERO issues with the new one.

Dakine truly stands by their products which is also great to see.

Nice size and weight for my purposes. Easy to use in place of a purse, when out and about. Easily accommodates small card/money holder, phone, glasses, keys, and many more essential items, while leaving you hands free.

Also use this when walking the dog, and taking short hikes. You can also hang a handy hand sanitizer on the outside. Very practical.

Great little pack. Light weight can be washed in machine. Love it to put my I Phone 11 and reading glasses in – especially in working in my yard. Also wear it at times with the above items in it when going up and down stairs in the house- if I have on clothes with no pockets.

This bag works perfectly for my needs and is a fantastic price. I’ve had it for about 9 months and have used it consistently over the summer and fall—at least 5 times a week for 10-20 mile bike rides and 4-mile walks.

My water bottle stays secure with the cinch strap over roads as well as gravel/dirt trails. It’s much larger and than my first small Kavu waist pack. This bag easily holds a couple of granola bars, phone, tissue pack, hand sanitizer, lip balm, money, etc.

The belt adjusts and closes easily. I am 100% pleased with this bag.

I use this for Disneyland. It has 2 large compartments- and the water bottle holder encourages me to have a bottle for water to stay hydrated at all times. It stays on my hip so everything is with me and I can just move it to the side when I get into rides.

This is a great little functional pack, with the build quality and helpful features I’ve come to expect from Gregory. Notably, the padding, 3 pockets (1 large, 1 suitable for a phone, and 1 small with a keyloop) so we’re not sacrificing organization even in a small pack, and the Gregory fingerloops on each zipper – which you’ll find yourself using every time.

I got the black/dark gray colour which I’m happy with, though I know from having other Gregory products I’ve been pleasantly surprised in person by the quality of the other, brighter colours, like the blue and orange.

Looks lean a little to the technical/backcountry side, so you probably won’t be throwing this over your shoulder and wearing it around like a fashion brand, but for day trips to hikes this is a solid option.

I received this waistpack in a subscription box. I didn’t really use waist packs before this, but this one changed the game. It’s comfortable, light, and easy to open/close when wearing. I use it to keep day hike essentials in and it fits everything perfectly.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the market for a waistpack.

I ordered this because it seemed to be the right size (3. 5L) and said it had internal mesh pockets, but It does not have mesh pockets which is disappointing. It has three pockets total – front, main and then a small one at the back.

The green colour is nice but the straps are ridiculously long. You have to tuck them under your waist. Overall a good pack for what I’m using it for (ditch kit for canoe trips).

I wanted to carry this thing for a while before I posted an honest review. first off, the craftsmanship is what I would expect of Mystery Ranch. Even though their manufacturing is outsourced now. This is a solid bag.

It’s very large, I’ve got a full EDC kit and some extras with a little room to spare. My main complaint is that unless the straps are under tension, they don’t stay cinched. I don’t carry this around my waist, but sling it around my back like a slingpack.

I find it easier to access the items inside. This is problematic because the straps remain fully extended and cannot be cinched up. I’m going to try and add some sort of rubber band around them to try and hold them in place to see how well it works.

Annoying, but not a huge deal. Also, I wish there was more in terms of organization within the main zippered pouch. There’s the small zippered pocket on the front, one large main zippered compartment and within the main compartment, there’s a small zippered compartment along the inside back of the pouch.

So basically 3 large zippered compartments. I’m using some zippered EDC style organizational pouches to keep everything where I can find it so I don’t have to dig around in a large compartment for loose items.

A decent bag for the money, if these small issues were fixed, I don’t think you could find a better bag at this price. But as-is, it could be much better. Knowing what I know now, I would pass on this bag if I had to do it all over again.

I purchased this to be used as a murse on my boat- carry my wallet, keys, small first aid kit and boom stick in. With function in mind, I thought the red color would be good as it would be somewhat high-vis.

I received the red only to find out it is super pink. My hipster friend said I should have known that the color ‘vice’ would be pink- he said it references the 80’s. Having grown up in the 80’s, vice did not associate with the color pink to me, but I guess today it does.

That said, the bag is very nice, very well put together and I liked it so much that I bought a second in the (now discontinued) wax brown color. My 13yo daughter liked the pink (or vice) color so the vice colored bag is now hers.

Cons of this pack- it is large so could easily be overpacked.

I bought this bag mostly because it looked cool and I thought I’d use it every once in a while when going super light in the field. I’m an ecologist and I rotate in and out a lot of kit to try for fieldwork and recreational hiking.

This bag blew me away. There are a couple standout things. 1. ) The size: you can fit a ridiculous amount into this thing but it looks small. I often have a full nalgene in mine along with 2 glasses cases, a first aid kit, airpods, chapstick, a multi tool, wind jacket and various other items sometimes I’ll have 2 books in there as well.

2. ) The zippers: the zipper son this thing are so smooth and pleasant to use it really makes the bag a go to. Easily opened and closed with one hand. 3. ) The “frame”: the rigid back “frame” make carrying it sling style or as a fanny pack a joy.

I frequently do both. 4. ) Design: it looks amazing and the layout of one large pocket and one smaller pocket up front is perfect. 5. ) The price: amazing value.

I have been looking for a compact, lightweight sling bag that has just enough capacity for longer day trips with the right organization for daily items. After owning and trying many bags, this one is my favourite.

It has the perfect number of pockets, 3 zipped with one mesh divider in the main compartment. It is well-made and the material is lightweight yet it still feels durable and water resistant. The strap length is perfect to wear as a fanny pack or a shoulder sling.

I wish the strap keeper would be stronger as the excess strap slides around a lot. I also fear the long-term durability of the mesh on the back panel. Overall, if you are after a do-it-all sling, this one is excellent.

Love Fjallraven for their high quality products and this hip pack is no exception. I love how light and comfortable it is – I’ll mostly be wearing it as a cross body this summer on all our adventures and in lieu of a purse.

It easily fits my phone, small wallet, lip balm, dog bags and small kleenex pack with a bit of room to spare. I’m also a fan of the zip pockets on the front & back which provides just enough organization, combined with the small open mesh pockets on the inside of the main pouch.

Very happy with this purchase & I know I’ll get many, many years of use out of this bag!!.

I purchased this wonderful little hip pack primarily as a nice hip pack for bike riding. It’s as good as they say it is, no kidding. The attention to detail is where this pack excels. I like things that look good.

This looks good. All the minor essentials fit, multiple pockets, soft fabric, great zippers, you name it. Do yourself a favor and get one, just because it’s bees knees.

I don’t know why Decathlon stopped selling their original blue bum bags. They had an inner zipped compartment and a main one which is better than the external one here which is right against your waist so hard to access when on the move.

The old ones were fairly indestructible, the strap held its size and they washed well. They were even cheaper than this one too. This bag’s strap works loose so I’ve had to tie it in a knot to stop it descending from my waist when my phone’s in it when I jog.

It’s useful but doesn’t wash well so have to wipe it. Still useful. Recommend it for price only really as competitors are equally flimsy and cost more. Please bring back the old blue ones!.

Excellent for running and holding a phone, or travelling and holding a passport/wallet/phone/glasses etc. You can fit a surprising amount in and it has a handy side compartment for things you want to access quickly like suncream etc.

Packs down to next to nothing – great for bike rides if you don’t have any storage for snacks too! Ridiculously good at this price.

The front pocket is big in size but when I keep things in there as I unzip everything starts falling off. And outside pocket doesn’t really hold anything. The inside small pocket and back pocket is very useful.

The belt size is very good and easy to use. There are small flaws but is still the only bag I prefer to carry.

This bag is super super comfortable. I rotate between this and my Sling now and I love them both! I love the functionality of this bag in particular as it has so many compartments to keep everything organized for my busy days in the city.

I’m always impressed by what Caraa does but wow- this bag was so highly thought out. Every detail was thought of- no stone unturned. Everything from the sweater hanger to the key fob is genius!
