20 Best Wake Surf Shaper (2022 Updated)

We bought a 2012 Wakesetter this past Spring as our son had learned to surf (and we were in the market for a new boat). After much experimenting with the ballasts and wedge, we still weren’t satisfied with the wave.

I did the research and decided to order the Mission Delta wave shaper. We honestly expected only a mild improvement. We were wrong. It is a major improvement, and we could not be happier. The wake is much more defined, and larger.

The impact our existing wedge has is now much more pronounced. Great device – thanks!!.

Wanted to try wake surfing this year, with low expectations, due to having an older/smaller boat. I saw the Delta 2. 0 had recommendations for an XStar which was encouraging so I gave it a try with Mission’s cheapest skim board.

Packaging was nice, and instructions were good. Reversed the orientation of the shaper (backwards) and did some placement and ballast experiments when it arrived. I found that all the way back and just below the MasterCraft sticker was the best.

I would like it a little higher but not willing to remove the lettering on the boat. I filled both rear ballast tanks and emptied the center with really good results. I am temped to get a little more rear ballast now so I can add center ballast for a little longer wave but very happy.

I have had it come off a few times when getting started, if you clean the area a bit then it stays put. Love that it floats and build quality is great.

We absolutely love our DELTA wake surf shaper. We have a 2004 Super Air Nautique TE 210 and had struggled for years with hundreds of pounds of external ballast and tilting the boat to one side to try and achieve a good wake for surfing.

Depending on how many people we had in the boat and how many fat sacs we filled up in addition to our internal ballast tanks, the size, length and quality of the wake varied from day to day. Our purchase of the DELTA last summer (we bought in the second manufacturing run) changed all of that.

We now fill up our three hard tanks (750 pounds total) and arrange any people in the boat evenly to weight the boat evenly in the water…no more tilting or leaning the boat. If there are just a couple of us in the boat, we then also use external fat sacs on the seats, floor or in rear lockers.

It took us a few times to figure out the perfect spot to place the DELTA (every boat is different), but we now have a high, long, consistent wake every time we surf. When we have regular foot and goofy foot surfers in the boat, it takes less than a minute to change the DELTA to the other side.

It’s amazing what this simple little piece of plastic can do. I have told two other wakeboard boat owners (one with an older Nautique, one with an older Mastercraft) about DELTA. They both bought it, and love it.

I highly recommend DELTA!.

First of all the wedge we ordered should not be labeled to be working with a 2003 Malibu Wakesetter 23xti as we are unable to place it where it’s supposed to be due to the shape of the boat. The slim version should have been what should have gotten recommended.

We made it work by putting a lot of extra ballasts in the work. Second of all – we received a very obviously used item. I brought it to the attention of the swell team who replied we could send it back and receive a new item.

Of course by the time I came home to tell my husband to wrap it back up he was already out trying to set it up with the boys and since I am not one of these people that returns things that I(!!!) have used pretending I haven’t done it I just called it a day.

Just a little disappointed that we would even receive a used item. I was gonna order other stuff from their shop with the enclosed coupon but I will not risk getting and having to return used items due to issues in their quality control.

Maybe have a section with ‘certified refurbished items’ if you accept returns that do not look like new anymore.

Holy cow is this SWELL Wakesurf Creator H3X Plus amazing! I found a video on how to set up FatSacs for a direct-drive inboard ski boat (competition slalom boat with a small wake). They recommend 1500 lb FatSeat in the back with the seat removed, I used my friend’s two 750 lb FatSacs going from the middle-rear where the seat goes up alongside the motor cover on either side to weight it evenly.

We then went 10, 11 and 12 MPH with no SWELL attached and the wake was bigger than normal but not surfable (basically a great wakeboard wake). Then I attached the SWELL to the Starboard rear at position 0 and holy cow the wake grew to about 3′ tall on the port side! We played around with position 1 and position 2 and moved the SWELL around on the hull and yes it was surfable! I am 6’1″ and weigh 230 lbs and I didn’t let go of the rope but I did have slack in the line most of the time.

The board I used is older and not as “floaty” as the newer ones which I’ll be buying soon along with a FatSeat. We surfed this boat one other time with 1500 lbs on the port side rear and the boat listed so far left it was hard to drive and the wake was the same size as with the SWELL but again not user-friendly with this setup for either side surfing unless you drain the bags and move them over.

Also, the wake was shorter when doing the one-sided ballast compared to what it is with the SWELL attached, The SWELL stretched the wake out 4-5′ longer making it easier to surf. The SWELL and equally positioned ballast allowed me to switch sides easily and the wake was just as big on the starboard side (which is good because that is my favored side but my friends all use the port side).

I did tie an 18″ rope to the SWELL with a small chunk of orange Noodle as a float and I’m glad I did. The SWELL fell off about 4 times, several from turning around when I fell and it did come off once while I was surfing but I noticed the wake changed immediately and looked back and saw it floating.

Yes the SWELL floats but attach a tether and float to it to help you see it easier. Overall the SWELL is well worth the money when used with the proper ballast positioning and I recommend this to anyone wanting to surf behind their boat.

First off, I chose Swell out of all the shapers because the amount of adjustability and results. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Used on a 2007 Malibu 21 VLX with factory MLS system. Without the shaper the surf wake wasn’t great at all.

As soon as the wakemaker was installed, instant results and a beautiful, very rideable wave. Of course I will keep tweaking my setup, ballast wise, wedge location etc. but very stoked with the results.

It did fall off twice, both times our fault…too much speed one time and not pushing hard enough on the gate to secure it on the other but it does float and was recovered pretty easily both time. Thanks for the great product!!.

Use this on my 2007 Mastercraft X2. The original Slim wakeshaper worked well, and it took me some time and experimenting to get the right setting with this new very adjustable H3X. My ballast set up: Plumbed in ballast 1.

Factory port and starboard tanks in rear. 2. Upgraded Wakemakers bags in port and starboard storage compartments, above factory tanks (450 lbs each). 3. My original KGB tank was cracked, replaced with larger Wakemakers bag (probably around 450 lbs).

4. Wakemakers horseshoe bag under bow seats, 650 lb. I fill all to full. If I don’t fill the KGB and bow bag to full, the boat is too back heavy and I cannot get to 11 MPH which is where we surf. My boat does not have an attitude adjustment plate.

Portable ballast (if needed) If I don’t have enough people in the boat (e. g. less than 4 passengers), then I fill a 540 lb portable ballast bag (cylinder shape) with a Sumo Max pump (I just ordered a new bag that will fit my boat better – rectangle shape 650 lb 40″ x 20″ x 20″).

It goes lengthwise (aft to forward) on aft cabin floor, and we move it to the side of the surfer (port for regular riders, starboard for goofy). Things I tried: 1. Used the original slim and H3X wakeshapers together.

– Made for a long wake, but not a lot of push and really burned gas! 2. Only the H3X mounted as far aft as possible, and configured to same position and paddle length as the Slim – similar wake to Slim (as expected) 3.

Pulling out the white paddle – made wake longer, but not enough push 4. Rotating the gray base with white paddle fully retracted (shortest length) – Rotated as the markings on H3X suggest (dial was in “Port” area for goofy rider, “Starboard” area when regular rider) – Goofy rider just needed a two notches from level (my boat gives better wake for goofy rider) – Regular rider needed 4 or more notches from level, due to driver being on Starboard side and probably the rotation of my prop Wake on either side was outstanding! By far the longest wake with most push I’ve ever been able to generate behind my boat.

I haven’t tried extending the white paddle, since the wake is already so long, but will try just to see what it does. I do have to run WOT, and 11 MPH is the max speed. Would need to get a more aggressive prop for better torque and lower top speed, but current setup does work fantastically! No problems with the H3X coming off.

Will add a small yellow buoy with tether just in case. The Slim did come off when we were testing with both wakeshapers, and it took us some time to find it since we had no idea where it came off. At least with just one wakeshaper, you’ll know immediately that the wakeshaper came off! And the X2 is still a fantastic wakeboard boat! Rare that anyone slaloms behind it, but certainly has more wake than a dedicated slalom boat like the Prostar.

I talked with one of your employees from the website to confirm which product would work for my boat because I saw that my boat (2014 Yamaha AR192) was not listed when searching your products to help create a better shaped wake.

They told me to purchase this one and it would fit and work well. Unfortunately that was not true. I am guessing that employee just didn’t know the specs of my boat and instead of researching it a bit or at least telling me that there is not one designed for my boat that would work they insisted that this one would work.

It does not simply because there is not a place on the back of my boat where I can attach the HX3 where it is 3”- 4” below the water line, like recommended on the installation instructions. I plan on returning it and will need to research a bit more on what will actually work for my boat.

I will say, if your boat has the right specs for how they designed the HX3 to work, I can only imagine it would work well.

This is a board to ALWAYS keep in your boat. It’s such a go-to for people of all abilities. And, I think it is the perfect board for someone learning to wake surf for the first time. It is heavier than the other surf boards out there, so with that little bit of extra weight it dips beneath the surfer to help them up out of the water.

Starting on a lighter/speedier surfboard is harder to get on top of. You can get anyone on the water with this board.

Very easy ride. Everyone in our family can get up quickly and without trouble. Smooth, stable ride. Grip and padding in all the right places. Family is 5’9″ to 6’2″, and from 110lbs to ahem, 190ish. It’s good for all of us – we’re not setting the world on fire with tricks, and are beginners – so – if your goal is Olympic wake surfing, maybe something else is better.

The first one delivered had cracks on the two back edges, and the customer service team at evo quickly solved the issue and sent a replacement. This is the second H/L board I’ve purchased from evo and both times the service and delivery have been great.

This board can be ridden very differently, depending on the fin set up. The wingtail shape allows for powerful turning and extra power when popping off the wake. The wingtail also provides a more stable feeling when turning, which can be nice for beginners.

This boards awesome, it makes ‘ollie-ing’ out of the wake feel natural.

I’ve tried a few different devices, this surpassed them all. Initially didn’t seem good but after we bumped the speed from 9 to ~10. 4 the wave took shape and was substantial behind my 2012 wakesetter 24.

7. On the downside the suction is not adequate for the size. The device came off several times. I was lucky to find it the first time owing to it not having a safety lanyard. So one star off for that but definitely happy with the purchase.

Yup almost $400 for plastic and 5 suction cups, but the results are amazing. I have a Mastercraft X2 and with the stock ballast (400 rear lockers and 750 in the middle (KGB)) the Wakesurf Inline Pro made a good surfable wake.

With an 800 lb ballast bag, the wake was amazing for this little boat. I am very impressed! Specific to the Mastercraft X2 and any similar stepped hull, the Inline Pro allows one to place the wake shaper on the 4″ deep lower chine to get the wake shaper underwater.

I was recommended the shaper for my Matrix MXV. Tried it for the first time and after playing around with the placement and boat speed the wave is great. Had the riders surfing with no rope required.

This shaper is incredible! I bought it to see if it would work on my 1992 Bayliner Capri. Wow, was I amazed! Definitely happy I made the purchase and couldn’t be happier! It stays on better than anyone could imagine with a couple of 4″ suction cups.

I added a 100 gallon ballast bag in the back and was amazed at the results.

I have a 03 Mastercraft X30. This product works very well but I would recommend that you go to the smaller size. I thought the bigger the better but it is really big and shoots water straight up in the air when going.

It does a great job of curling the wake for surfing like it is intended to do.

The surf gods used to require sacrifices of varying degrees – bodies, comfort, balance, pride and more. Even then, once I packed my family and friends into a corner of my boat, removed all remaining leg room with a fat sack and prayed that the wave they bestowed upon us was shreddable – even then my surf fate was at the discretion of their fickle moods.

Then one day a fellow disciple told me about MISSION and its DELTA Wakesurf Shaper. Turns out the surf gods didn’t want blood, bodies or any of that ‚Äì they simply wanted me to make a modest monetary investment ‚Äì call it a religious indulgence ‚Äì in the future of the wakesurf game.

I did. Prayers answered. Despite it being early April, when the surf gods delivered my gift – the salvation of shred – I went to the water to use it immediately. Filled up the factory ballast, brought on two passengers (one riding) and the wave was better than ever before.

The surf gods are real ladies and gentlemen – and they can be found in a little white suction cup contraption. Absolutely worth the investment.

I own a 2006 Super Air Nautique 220. After years of surfing behind it and constantly tweaking the wake, I was satisfied, but also a little frustrated. We could always get a decent wake (steep, but a small sweet spot), but people had to sit in the right spot, it took time to load after-market ballast, and I hated driving with the boat leaning all the time.

Let alone if we had someone who had to ride goofy. I think my wife was ready to kill me for being so anal about insisting people sit in certain spots on the boat (nobody rides in the bow! And I mean nobody!).

Then, along came the wake wedges. I was skeptical to say the least. How could something so small affect the wake in a meaningful way? Yet, I kept reading reviews that said they worked. My son tried to get me to purchase one of the wedges that was huge and velcroed to the side of the boat.

I couldn’t stand the idea of Velcro on our boat, let alone having to make it stick in the water. I came up on the Mission Delta, and thought I’d give it a try. What’s a few hundred bucks, anyway? Well, suffice to say that I am impressed.

Before ordering, I thought these things worked by pushing the boat sideways or something to that effect. That’s not it at all. What they do is disrupt the smooth flow of water down one side of the boat so that the wake on that side collapses, leaving the wake on the other side smoother and longer.

It’s hard to explain, but pretty obvious when you get it working. I have seen two big benefits to it on our boat. 0) The unexpected benefit– The pocket cleans up right away. I don’t have to overload the ballast anymore so the boat looks like the stern is sinking.

This means the prop doesn’t cavitate and the engine works less. The wake cleans up right away, which means a surfer can get right to work, rather than the boat laboring for so long to find speed and clean up.

1) The “pocket” is much longer. I’d say you can probably go back another 8′ or so and still catch the wave. 2) The wake is smoother– it’s just as high but that height is spread over a longer distance (and pushier), making for a big area to cut and surf, and some fast approaches to the boat.

3) You can drive straight and not have to do those big circles all the time! 4) It is much easier to keep peace on the boat as people can literally sit anywhere they want. Just roughly balance them out.

No more everyone to the left side and nobody up front stuff. 5) Easy to install and switch for goofy riders. We have only had the Mission Delta come loose when I forgot it was there and went to full speed.

Even then, it usually stays on and you notice when you see the big rooster tail. I know it sounds good to be true, but it really works. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but I look at that as the price of ingenuity.

I don’t have a problem paying $400 for a device that eliminated my need to spend $40,000 or more to upgrade my boat. I wouldn’t have believed the hype either until I got this thing and had a chance to use it a few times (you do have to figure out the depth for it– initially we put it too deep and it didn’t do much.

Once we got it so that it was just underwater when at surf speed, it was awesome).

The Key is wider than the Matrix from nose to tail, which means a heavier person can use a shorter board. It is also flatter than the Matrix which makes it super stable when landing tricks. I have learnt so many new tricks on this board.

Highly recommended.

I am an upper intermediate 165 lb rider and I was stuck between liking the additional stability of a larger board (53″-56″) but liking the agility of a smaller board (51-52″). The answer is that the “Hammerhead 50” being “cut off” on both ends gives you the surface area of a longer board with length and agility of a smaller board.

The 50′ Hammerhead is 2″ shorter than anything that seem to support my weight correctly and so very quick and agile. Love it. Cant say enough nice things. I’m surprise there is not a lot of copy cat boards out there, but I’m guessing there will be.

This board is amazing! I got on it and just felt at home! I’m 5’8″ about 155lbs and ride the 4’5″. It’s super easy to maneuver but still has good stability. It’s fast and loose and LOVES bottom turns! Overall I love this board and would recommend it to anyone that is looking to progress.

Best surf board I have ever ridden. Super lightweight, thin profile, easy to carve finless, and full of rotation (landed my first two 360 attempts right out of the box). The screwless fin technology makes for easy swap out whenever you want to ride with or without the fin.

Great board! Arrived quickly. Very versatile for all the riders in our family, from 120 lbs to 185 lbs! Everyone was able to surf. It works well for our son, who has started riding more aggressively (without the fins) and the rest of us that don’t want the board to slide (with fins).

Has quickly become the boat favorite!! Great all around board for learning, tricks and airs. Lots of versatility to remove 2 fins and add center, or go 3 fin setup.

We have a garage full of wake surf boards from LF and P5, but this is one we all come back to. My wife and 12YO son ride the 4’4″ version and I (5’10″/200+) ride the 4’8″. durable and very predictable skim style boards.

So my board actually came in damaged from how it was packaged. The banding that was holding the board to a piece of cardboard was too tight and crushed part of the bottom edge… not a good sign for product durability, but it’s a cheaper board so it understandable.

Also the length of this board I got is for 190+ but one of the girls who’s is 150 has had the most success with this board but it is a little loose for her. A 220 guy can pull it off but it’s barley fast enough for him and I’m sitting at 260 and the board is not fast enough with me on it, but that was a risk I was aware of.

I just wish they put an upper recommend weight limit. Graphics on the board are fuzzy. Decking held well but feels like it might fall apart easily. The top of the board actually looks really nice and the molding of the board looks good.

Over all it seems like a good value. I would recommend it to people that want to do some tricks on skin style if they are between 180-240. If you aren’t confident in you wake quality then stick to the lighter side.

After talking to the girl that worked at EVO I felt confident that we got what we needed. Took it out the day we got it and my husband got up and actually was able to let go of the rope. The board is really light and was great on the water.

I highly recommend this board.

I hadn’t even put it in the water yet and was transporting it across the lake in my tower rack, which is padded. Then I went to ride it and realized the side was busted up and delaminating. Poor craftsmanship! If it can’t handle being transported in tower racks it should be redesigned.

Our board arrived safely and in a timely manner. While previous reviews claimed the screws were too short, we secured ours with Locktite and the screws have held through two weeks of solid surf sessions.

All three of us, all new surfers, were able to get up on the first day. We are thrilled with this purchase and strongly suggest this board and company!.

I bought this for my 16yr daughter and she is absolutely in love with it. We got out every day and she enjoys it so much. Highly recommend this board. Very versatile and a great board for everyone.
