20 Best Walleye Jig Heads (2022 Updated)

Warning: The bait keeper is sharp and will chew up softer baits. If you don’t hook it right the first time, you’ll need to bite your bait or grab another one. It will hold on tight, but if a fish knocks your bait down the hook, the same thing applies.

However, if you’re using ElaZtech baits, you’ll be glad you have them. Superglue will work, but I like to use another hook and pull a loop of the ElaZtech material over the hook eye to keep it in place.

(YouTube search “7 ElaZtech Hacks” and you’ll find a tutorial by ZMan. ) With all that said, I really like the Trout Eye 3/16 ounce jighead. It is very balanced allowing for different retrieving techniques.

I like to use an improved clinch knot as well as a nonslip loop knot with this jighead. I like to use it with 3-4″ DieZel Minnows, Rage Swimmers, and even Keitech Easy Shiners (These are soft and don’t hold up as well, but I love their action!).

The hook shank is right at 1″ so if you are using a larger/longer bait, I’d go with the Redfish Eye jigheads. Their hook keepers aren’t as sharp but still get the job done.

Awsome jighead for fresh and saltwater! I have paired the 1/10 oz. Jigheads with the zman 3 inch shadz in the dark stormy color. When I rigged it, the barb lined up between the top fin slot so snugly that I thought- its weedless as all getout,but no way can I get a good hook set.

Well 3 hits and 3 bass later, I was a believer! The zman shadz are buoyant enough that they have a slower fall when you stop the retrieve.

Love these jigheads for basic normal fishing. But if you are trying to pressure fish ( locking the drag down near structure ) DO NOT USE THESE JIGHEADS!!. Went dock fishing the other night and had a snook on.

Got the snook away from the dock , soon as I did it popped off. Thinking it busted me off , I cranked it in to find the entire hook of the jig had been completely bent out. !!! So if you are doing basic fishing bass fishing , trout , snook , reds in open flats and light structure these are great and pair well with just about any soft plastics.

Doa and zman are my go to’s.

One of the best jigs out there. I don’t know if it’s the eye that makes a swim bait attract more fish but either way this jig has a strong wire hook, strong enough to keep from a 10in snapper, to a 15lb inshore grouper, all the way up to a 40 in snook.

If never used an do alot of inshore fishing. Definitely get this jig a shot. You won’t be disappointed!!!.

people love Jointed plugs because they have more movements. Fly anglers love to tie articulated streamers for more movements. But Why did it take so long for swim jigs to be articulated? Beats me, but if you thought the jointed football head jigs are the bomb for bass fishing, check these out! strongly connected jigs that swings with your lure! attach a swimbait paddle tail plastic lure and this will roll so much better than a normal jig head! Them eyes on the head stays on as well! give them a shot! Especially with Zman Plastics!.

Been using these in the Sound on Hatteras Island for a month now and love how they do on the grass. The weedless presentation deflects most of the grass which is a must. I prefer swimming and bouncing jigs versus using popping corks and these jigs do well.

Also I don’t need a loop style knot because this jig has a free swinging eye on it which provides the action for you. I tie a Paloma’s knot which is much more long lasting than any loop knot!.

Extremely sharp and work amazing on smaller ned rig sized soft plastics. I love them for spooky slot sized redfish. IMPORTANT: you need to use a light action or parabolic rod for these. The wire for the hook is very thin and will straighten out if you don’t keep a lighter drag and a rod with a good bit of bend to it.

Again, think Ned rig.

This jig or dragging a bottom bouncer rig is the only two types of lures that will work for me in the lakes around here. These lakes are very heavily fished so it takes something different to catch fish in them.

One other thing that I think gives me an advantage is that most people around here have never fished for Bass or Trout as I have before I moved here. Casting this jig in toward shore from the boat and bouncing it along the bottom on the retrieve consistently hooks the perch and walleye (no bass around here).

I use the 1/8 or the 1/4 oz size in the Watermelon color only. Watermelon is the only color that will glow in the dark according to the online catalog. I have tried various types of plastic grubs and worms on this jig.

The grub portion of a Johnson Beetle Spin lure in the Chartreuse/Red color works better than any thing else for me. I have caught fish up to about 24″ in length with this jig and have had no problems with the hook bending.

I do not use heavier than 8 # test line. Some of the paint on the jig heads will eventually flake off. Considering how I bounce this jig on the rocks I would expect that. I have tried other brands of jigs of this type that have the spinner blade attached under the jig head.

I have had no luck with them at all. So if the “Thumper Jig” also works for you, buy extras. Since this product works well they will probably discontinue it.

I’ve used this jig in a variety of waters and found it to out produce many other jigs for walleyes. This is especially true in stained or dirty water. The extra motion and shape of the jig attracts and gets the interest of hungry walleyes.

I really like the “wire bait keeper hook” for holding on a half night crawler, found it to be very effective holding bait in place and keeping up close to the jig head. Works great with plastics as well.

I get more hook-ups because of it and see less of a need for stinger hooks, which is one less thing to deal with. A great product!.

Pair these bad boys up with a 3.5 to 4 inch swimbait and you will be bringing the fish to you. Caught bass, pike and walleye with this setup

Bucktail jigs have been around forever but I love these VMC jigs. I have been tying my own for years but these are great so I don’t even bother anymore. I always have a bucktail tied on when I’m fishing for walleye and nothing puts more of them in the boat.

Troll until you find them staging and then flick one of these at them with half a dewy, they love it when you flick it at em.

They look great but the hook is so soft. Maybe good for tiny freshwater fish but hook bent on short fluke. Do not recommend

I have used VMC jogs almost exclusively for several years. The paint is durable and the hooks are sharp? The introduction of the hair jig maintains the VMC quality I have known for years.

Compared to several others I have used, I live the vmc shakey head the best. The loose spring works better than fixed ones for me and vmc hooks are always sharp and hold up well. Shape of the weight makes for a better base to keep baits upright and doesn’t get hung up as easily as squared off bases do.

I started using the VMC shaky head jig this summer. Exclusively with the Googan slim shake. It has been a go to for me. Even though the spring lock doesn’t have a center pin. My googan plastics have held up well though catching fish, and occasional hang-ups.

I would recommend this product.

I’ve used these for the last two seasons, and like them a lot. They go through milfoil well, and don’t get hung up too much. The pigtail bait holder is mediocre, and I’d recommend replacing them with the Owner equivalent.

Of course, it would be nicer if VMC would just revise the one provided. it wouldn’t take much. I’d give 5 stars except for the bait holder. I fish it on 10 lb test fluorocarbon on a 7′ medium rod with Chronarch baitcaster.

Try a 5″ or 6″ Zoom lizard and catch ’em good!.

I got a chance to finally use my half heads this wk-end! The river where i fish was high but that did not stop me from going. It has been a long cold winter and a very wet spring. I was chomping at the bit to go! First cast huge sm.

mouth,next was a huge lg. mouth. ,then the walleye! I use the half heads as a ned rig,never done that before,they worked great! This was sat. morning,5/4,went home,went back in the afternoon and caught two more walleye.

Tried again on sunday,caught lots of sm. mouth but no walleye. All those fish on the half heads! The river is slowly dropping so now I will use my 1/8oz. half heads. this is going to be my” GO TO” jigs for the summer and fall! In two wks.

I head to La Crosse,Wi to fish the Mississippi,those fish do not have a chance. Did I mention how tasty those walleye were? If you want to catch some fish; try some half heads. They really work!.

Filled a whole plano with various sizes of these, after getting frustrated losing the expensive tungsten competitors. This is my favorite style bait keeper, and the hook is plenty sharp. I also like using the larger (1/4) sizes for tubes.

Thank you Berkley for releasing this jighead; I LOVE them. I love the way the bait keeper is designed and the smaller hook sizes used for these jigheads. I gave away all of my other Ned jigheads once I discovered this product.

Nice shakey head a little bigger than I expected. But that’s not their fault. I bought because reviews online were good. Excited to try them out.

Really good looking. Havent been to the right lake to use them in yet but they should work nicely. The hook size is a little bigger then Im used to but I think it will be fine. Its a big 3/0 hook

Could not use this bait its bigger than I needed but like these. I needed barbless hooks they look like they were,cool though.

This jighead is sharp. I used it plastic swimbait like kietech and it performed awesome. Price is also good, hook is sharp, it catch fish.

A simple and cheap jighead. Perfect for using on the rocks. If u lose it, not a big deal but still can catch fish when u need it to. Love the soft plastic holder. Saves time not worrying about fixing the soft plastic if it slides down the shank.

I’ve been using these jigs for over 10 years. I’ve bought at least 300 of them in that time, with quite a few of those being ‘sold/given’ to fishing buddies who weren’t catching fish with their plain jigs as fast as I was with the roadrunners.

I’ve never had ANY arrive with bent or broken hooks. I have had a FEW (2-3%) that have faulty blade swivels. As much as I love them, there are some things that could be improved: 1. The “chartreuse” still seems to have a very slight green tint, but it’s acceptable.

A few years ago the ‘chartreuse’ was in fact light green, not chartreuse. 2. The “1/4oz” jigs are in fact closer to 3/16oz. I mainly use these for walleye jigging, and 3/16oz is just a tich lite unless we’re drifting quite slow or are in shallow water.

Hard to get it to the bottom with the blade drag added in. 3. Minor point in that there is no baitholder barb at all, so you do have to ‘fix’ your powerbait or whatever quite often. Not a big deal really for me.

***NOTE***: The red hook “bleeding bait hooks” version with the ‘glow heads’ has a true chartreuse, and the “1/4oz” jig is in fact just slightly HEAVIER than 1/4oz. You can EASILY see the jig head size difference side by side.

These heads look a LOT like the old “3/8oz” they used to sell.

I was throwing my new Storm 360GT for the first time. On my second cast I lost it. My Line somehow broke. Now what ? I have 2 swim tails and no jig head. So I am searching my tackle box for a solution.

I had 3 Road Runner Jig heads. OK so I set on up and throw it. Bam a 25 inch Northern gets hooked on my 1st cast. I land it and move on. I caught 4 Large Mouth Bass in an hour without the original 360GT Jig Head.

The Road Runner Jig Head was an awesome solution to my problem.

Goods: great vibration from rounder blade. small wire hook so better hook up ratio due to great hook penetration. Price is great for a 1/4 oz bait. Bad: no bait keeper (to keep your soft plastic up on the hook) on this version.

I chose it for the 1/4 oz size. Other versions have bait keeper but are 1/8 oz or smaller. or cost $3+ a bait! Also, you have to use a thinner plastic bait or else it will block the blade from turning.

We went to Craig, Montana for a week. We used the Lindy grubs to run’em deep and successfully caught a boat load of big ones. All colors worked well, the size of 1/4 ounce was very productive. We just found out that they also are a great choice for Crappie, here in North Carolina.

Very satisfied with this lure and all the other ones I got from Discount Tackle, always my first choice in places to buy tackle. Go wet a hook today!.

A hit fishing at Cuyamaca lake. Crawfish orange and Chartreuse shad were very hot colors, jigging the bottom or dangling under a clear 2 inch bobber.

Used these with a paddle tail swimbait on a weekend at the Trent river and caught a ton of walleye. Also landed a 36 inch Pike from shore. My only gripe with these jig heads is that they’re not durable.

After a few casts the eyes start falling off, and the coating gets completely shredded on rocky bottoms. Otherwise, these jig heads are great and have a unique falling action to them. They work well, and I will be purchasing more in the future.

These jigs are the number one jig I use. In my box, I have a combination of traditional lead jigs, whistler jigs, snap jigs, and these moon eyes. I fish exclusively with with the 3/8 oz size, and absolutely kill with them compared to my other jigs.

As an example, took a trip this last weekend to Fort Peck over Memorial Day weekend, and with the blue UV jig (my favorite of the bunch), hauled in heaps of walleye, a few perch, a crappie, and a smallmouth bass over the two days I was there.

No other jig other than the orange UV moon eye even caught a fish. Usually, I run bottom bouncers and jigs, so this is my go to for jigs. The hooks hold up well to big fish and bending, although I did have a couple break on a larger walleye and the smallmouth, although that is a first for the jig ever breaking on me.

The bait holder is awesome, and does a great job keeping plastics, leeches, minnows, and crawlers on the jig. Best jig there is, well worth the price.

The aspirin shaped head gives these jigs a special action. I use them with grubs and Keitech minnows and catch all species of fish. I like to buy the 1/8th oz. assorted 10 pack so I have a bunch available on my river runs.

They are also unstoppable in lakes and ponds for bass, pickerel, crappies , and the biggest minnow eating bluegills ! Give them a try !.

I have purchased these several times this year and so far have not been let down. Typically jigs (no matter the size) seem to sink too quickly for me as I fish very small creeks and streams. But these are simply amazing with the way they slowly sink and go with the current.

I’ve been using the trout magnet jig head for years. Excellent hook up ratio. I use them primarily for panfish. However I’ve also landed several respectable large mouth bass on them. Good value too.

If you like fishing small streams with an ultralight spinning rod this jig head is something you should try. It’s 1/64 of an oz. which is perfect for getting down into small holes without hanging up on the bottom.

My first time casting this, I caught a nice 4 pound smallmouth in the upper Niagara River. However, I didn’t catch another fish after that until I changed my set up. Second time I used it, I caught one Smallmouth as well in the lower Niagara River and nothing after either.

It’s definitely well made. I’ll be ordering another in another color.

Caught my first fish on a jig with the rotten pumpkin color. The build quality is solid and the hook came sticky sharp. The weed guard got a little jacked up on the catch, but they were easily straightened back out.

They’re really fun to fish and easy to cast accurately. Bought 6 of them in 3 different colors and they all catch.

So originally I didn’t want to be a Googan fanboy just because. But after using their products I was hooked. Googan baits takes all the annoying things of other bait companies and perfects them. The lure weight stamped on the head is a game changer.

Also the hand tied skirt is king. Nothing more annoying then a jig skirt getting messed up because it’s never going back to normal. Overall all their jigs are great!.

These jigheads look great and really perform well. They’re durable with big eyes and sharp hooks! I wasn’t sure how well the single wire bait keeper would perform but it worked great with Z-man soft baits.

I just stretched the belly of the bait over the barb and then gave it a squeeze. I will definitely buy these again!.

These little swimbait heads are great. They are high quality and look awesome. I got the 3/16 oz with the 1/0 hook. These are perfect for small (3″ or less) paddle tails, but I would certainly go for 3/0 hook size for even the Zman 3″minnowz or larger.

Paired with a 4” Z-Man scented Paddlerz, this combo was a killer for walleye in Canada. The 1/4 oz size seemed to be a good combo for snap jigging walleye in 6-15 feet of water

These guys make great tackle and this just goes to prove it. I’ve used plenty of cheaper tackle that breaks, bends, or gets dull before you’ve really gotten any use out of it. Just from the looks of it, you can tell that these are made to last and hold together.

The mold lines are uniform from the cast and the protrusions have all been ground down so there’s no flash sticking out. I’m going to be sad if I lose these guys!.

Well made jig heads. The hooks are very sharp and the eyes should help attract attention to the bait. There are bait keepers that really do a great job of holding onto the swimbaits. I like these jig heads and will continue to pup and use them.

I purchased this hook in red & white about 3 months ago, since then it has absolutely destroyed the competition by far by catching the most jacks and Walleye. They love it they will come right up to the boat or the dock to check it out and will take a few nips at it or they will bite it! Almost caught a gigantic Walleye out of the Mcloud River last month!.

The 2 attachment points are useful. Have been using these bucktails for fluke. They are well made.

These are great all around jigs when fishing lakes with a lot of vegetation and docks. Excels at casting, flipping, pitching and skipping. I use tungsten when I fish lakes with a lot of hard bottom, no need for that fishing in vegetation.

so I always have one of these tied. Bait keeper, VMC hooks, rattle, great looking skirts/colors and a weedguard that doesn’t need trimming, maybe just break it in bending it several times. I always recommend these to friends and message board members.

Caught so many fish with these. Hooks are sharp and heavy duty. Easy to set the hook. Out of the 30 fish I’ve caught with these, only lost a couple. Green pumpkin is my favorite. These catch tanks!

I’m somewhat new to using flipping/pitching jigs and still learning how to perfect my technique but these jigs sure do work well. I’ve tossed it into lily pads, grass and open water and have pulled up 3+ pounders just about every time I’ve done so.

Black blue purple and green pumpkin orange in 3/4 oz. have been the best for me so far. Use Strike King rodent and Zoom brush hog as my trailers. The only drawback is that after pulling up a 3 pounder from some pads I noticed that the weed guard was badly messed up and is not as effective now.

I bought these to pair up with a paddle tail. I found them very effective for speckled trout. As always, match the hatch and switch the color jig heads and paddle tail until you find out what the want.

Inexpensive jigs. Used to catch fish. They sink in water.

Purchased with the intent of catching pan fish by the rocks. Does not snag as easily as your heavier jigs will. Very good value for the price
