20 Best Water For Dogs (2022 Updated)

So I have a Bouvier and Xoloitzcuntli that slop water every where which I hate. This dish was recommended by a fellow Bouvier friend and I love it. It keeps a small but constant amount of water in the dish so water isn’t being splashed around everywhere when drinking.

It goes through a filter and the additional water is kept clean and fresh in the reservoir. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because it’s only 1/2 gallon. I have four dogs so a gallon capacity would be preferred.

You can also lock it so no water comes out for traveling. There is a smaller size available for smaller dogs.

I asked when I bought this ‘how to change filters”. No instructions. You said to contact the company. How do I do that? No address or phone shown anywhere. I can see no filter to lift out and replace.

So for 3 months, I wash it almost daily by filling with soap and water followed by several rinses. Today OMG it smells like a sewer. Even if I had never washed it (but I did) it shouldn’t smell. Every couple of days, it’s refilled with fresh water.

This is the first time I feel Chewy hasn’t followed thru or helped me. This bowl is going into the trash unless I’m able to change filters. I’ve never bought the filters cuz I don’t know how to put them in.

I’m guessing they’re expensive. Was very surprised you doubled the price on this bowl since I bought it 90 days ago.

This dish holds a surprising amount of water and it is weighted. features I like because of convenience and the fact that I have a robotic vacuum that always seems to bump my pet food bowls and water dishes.

My pets prefer gravity water bowls. They are fascinated by them, so I was hoping they would be just as interested in something like this. They tolerate the bowl because the water is fresh and filtered, but I do find them gravitating to the other gravity bowls more.

What surprised me was how shallow the water is when the bowl automatically refills. It seems like there is barely any water in it. My pets do not seem to mind and at least I know that the water is always recycled and fresh, but it does seem odd.

I got this adorable water bottle for my dog off Amazon. I can’t remember how much water it holds but at least 12 oz. It comes with a filter in case you get the water from somewhere else. I took mine out because I always fill it up at home with our pre-filtered water.

I like that it has a strap to put around your wrist if you want to use it. I specifically bought this water bottle because it is leak proof. It has an on and off button that you twist to lock it. I saw reviews on lots of other bottles for pets saying they leaked.

This one lives up to its claim. My dog really enjoys drinking out of it. I take it with us wherever we go in case she gets thirsty. Very convenient. And if they don’t drink all the water that comes out when you push the button it can go back inside so you don’t waste any.

I love this bottle! Got the smaller one as I have a small dog and the smaller capacity means it fits better in the water bottle holder on the side of my doggy day bag. I’ve seen that some reviewers suggest the capacity is too small.

If we were going on a long drive where there weren’t any refilling opportunities, we’d take extra water with us any way. for convenience, it’s fabulous. just don’t get the filter cartridge replacements as they are only for the 400ml capacity bottle.

Works well, have used now this for a few weeks when exercising my dog at parks where there are no taps for dog drinking water. No leaks, still working well after a number of uses. The strap for carrying is very handy, as is the built in ‘bowl’.

The bottle is lightweight, doesn’t hold a great deal of water, but makes for easy carrying on the wrist & enough to keep my small dog hydrated. Definitely recommend!.

My kitty is turning 19 yrs old and is starting to have some kidney issues. I bought her this fountain to encourage her to drink more and to help keep her water clean. She is very much a lady and doesn’t put her mouth directly into the water bowls she drinks from.

Instead she cups her paw and dips it into her drinking water and then drinks it from her paw. So her regular water bowls would get bits of kitty litter that had stuck to her paw and even her shedded fur if she had groomed herself before getting a drink.

I had to have several water bowls all over our home and was checking and cleaning several times a day. After setting this fountain up for her she is staying to drink the water for up to 20 and thirty minutes at a time, and even starting to drink from the top of the fountain with her mouth directly in the water! This fountain along w her prescription for Hills Science Diet for kidney failure wet and dry food has actually paused her kidney failure according to her bloodwork.

Her veterinarian was absolutely amazed at her progress! He had never seen a turn around this dramatic in a cat her age. It’s very easy to keep clean and if you keep the levels of water up it runs in complete silence! It cannot be beat at the price Chewy is selling it for! ***Make sure to read all of the maintenance and care instructions carefully and follow them.

*** This fountain is amazing, and not hard to clean or use at all. I can be put in the dishwasher! The filter cartridges are very inexpensive as well. Plus it is not an eye sore at all even though it’s plastic.

We purchased this because we need running water for a picky hound AND a filter to help our other furry friends, because our hound eats and drinks and leaves crumbs in the water dish. There is no filter to protect the pump from getting debris in it.

The 2 grates that remove on the sides, the holes are so big everything goes through. It would have to be the size of a quarter not to slip through. There were no filters to purchase for these side grates.

The pump is not strong enough to suck in all the debris left behind either. We found we had to wash this DAILY with our messy eater which would be a lot easier with a single water dish then disassembling this daily to make sure we don’t kill the pump with the little bits of food debris it manages to suck in.

A big waste of time and money! Very disappointed! And despite our vigilance in keeping this clean and keeping this filled above the line (which is harder than one would think). The pump has officially died.

I will never purchase a fountain like this again. When shopping for a fountain be sure to check out the strength of the pump, and whether it has filters to protect it from sucking hair and debris IN or just filters for water going out.

I am finding most of these pumps are identical, and most are too weak to actually do what they claim! Very disappointing! I would spend more money to get a good product but have yet to find one that satisifies our needs! I am sure a cat owner would find this fountain suitable, or a cleaner dog.

If yoy have the normal messy dog who gets food in the water dish, this is not for you!.

My cats love this fountain. They drink from it a lot and will sit and watch it. Pump noise usually happens because of low water levels, the volume of water flow is too high or the pump is vibrating against the basin.

That’s with any water pump. Those having pump noise issues, try playing with the flow adjuster on the pump. Like any pump, they can get air in them when water levels run low. If the pump is running to high, it will make noise.

Mine is set on low. just enough to hear a light water trickle down the slide. If you hear a rattling/vibration noise, make sure the top cover is sitting correctly. My cats ran into it while chasing each other and it started rattling.

Simple fix by repositioning the top. I have to add some water once a week. Certain things can influence how often you have to add water such as humidity, temp inside your home, cats water intake, etc.

The basin water stays clean, water circles in basin then goes through the filter holes and back out through the top. No filtered pet system is 100% self cleaning so they do have to be cleaned. just not as often as water bowls.

I highly recommend this fountain.

Hi All, I learned from another Piggie Mom, that you can easily clean this water bottle by unscrewing the nozzle where the metal comes together with the blue plastic. Then carefully, take out the 2 metal balls and wash them.

I use a pipe cleaner or a metal straw cleaner to get inside the metal part. Also on this inside of the metal part where the balls seat in, take a wet Q-tip and clean out the backwash from the piggie’s usage.

Reassemble and your good to go with a clean water supply once again. The only reason I gave a 4 star is, the threaded screw that goes through the cage wires broke and so I had to find another way to attach the water bottle to the cage.

The local farm store had a holder I could use. Hopefully, the company that produces the screw part can use a tougher plastic to hold up under the pressure of tightening the holder to the cage. Oh, and I like the part where you can add a larger bottle due to standard threading!.

I have had small animals all of my life. I have been through hundreds and hundreds of water bottles, everything from glass with a rubber stopper to plastic with a ball In the nozzle to a nozzle with a lever instead of a ball.

At least 90% of them leaked, some of them downright soaking the cage. To be honest, I was skeptical when I looked into the Choco Nose no drip. It had positive reviews and I liked the fact that the nozzle is interchangeable with regular plastic bottles.

If the bottle cracks, I don’t have to replace the whole kit and kaboodle. THIS WATER BOTTLE DOESN’T LEAK except for a drop or two when attaching it to the cage. I think this is due to the fact that the bottle attaches to the cage at the neck and is not held to the cage and squeezed around the middle by wire or plastic.

My only complaint, if I had one, would be that the plastic bottle it comes with is a little small (I bought the larger size), however refilling it 1x-2x a day means my two guinea pigs always have fresh water and algae is less likely to take hold.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOTTLE.

I did a lot of research trying to choose the best water bottle for my hamster. I finally landed on this product because it seemed to have fewer reports of leaks or stopping up. It came in and was very cute/easy to install.

I followed the instructions exactly as they were written thinking that maybe some of the negative reviews were due to user error. Within 24 hours I hated this bottle. First, it did really fit through the bars of my cage which isn’t technically a problem with the product but is noteworthy for others with the Prevue 528 cage.

Second, it is really unreliable when it comes to releasing water. It will work fine sometimes, others the water will barely come out, and the majority of the time there will be no water at all. Just take your chances on something else.

2. 5 gal reservoir is heavy when filled, locking lid is difficult to engage. we have 3 small dogs and 4 cats that use this. It does not have to be filled as often as our old 1. 5 gal bottle, but it has a tendency to accumulate debris in the bottom of the bowl, so to keep it clean you would have to remove the tank and clean the bowl more often than on the previous model.

The open neck makes it easier to fill, but the placing the tank usually involves spilling water on the floor before getting it in place. I like the fact the bowl is easier to clean due to the more open design and it is sturdy as the old model was.

the old model lasted forever, until the tank finally got brittle and split open. I thought the 2. 5 gal tank would be helpful, but it’s actually much more difficult to handle than the smaller one. Not sure I could recommend it this fully or not based on experience to date, but it does hold more water and doesn’t require filling as oftem.

its a fantastic water container. i have had it about 3 months. i find its important to clean it at least once a month. i do so very carefully. It worked great at first for both cats and dogs. I noted after about 3 months of use it started to leak.

i can figure out where the leak is coming from. i have no other issues with this dispenser. but i believe its too late to get it replaced. disappointing. i am now purchasing pads to put under it to asorbe the leaking water and also please understand its not from the animals.

this did not start until 3 months after purchase. i am well aware that dogs can be sloppy and i was completely prepared for that. but this si a slow leak that trails across the kitchen when everyone is asleep.

We have 4 of the Large Le Bistro Waterer Systems and we love it! It is easy to clean, easy to fill and lasts several days. Yes the jug is heavy, I carry it with one finger in the hole and one hand underneath.

When loading the jug into the bowl, I plug the hole with my finger until I’m ready to drop it in place. No mess ever! I’ve tried 3 or 4 different brands through out my career and this one is by far the best.

The other brands would slosh over the sides when the dogs lap their tongues. The lip around the bowl prevents the water from sloshing over the edge. My model doesn’t have a charcoal filter, when I clean it I just use white vinegar to get rid of any algae that may have occured in the summer sun.

I have learned the hard way not to let them run dry. they aren’t chew proof! LOL. I love this brand so much I have 5 in reserves in my storage room, just in case it becomes discontinued. (Please don’t!!) I recommend it to all my puppy buyers.

My only complaint is the little corners where the water bowl connects to the feeder, I can’t get in to the sharp angle with my brush. (Perhaps I just need to go get a different brush. ) I wouldn’t recommend getting the large if you only have one dog or small dogs, as water that sits more than 5 days will grow algae and mosquitos.

I bought this last year and it’s fantastic! My cats love it and it encourages them to drink more water. I leave the lid off the top because they like to drink the water that cascades across the top. Haven’t had any problems with it, but you do have to remember a couple of things.

Never let the water get below the holes on the bottom of the pump housing unit, as this will ruin the pump. So just top off the water every day or every few days, depending on how many cats you have.

If it starts getting really noisy, that probably means the water is low so the pump is sucking in air. Buy the smallest fish aquarium net you can find, and use it to occasionally remove debris like fur, food, etc.

that has fallen into the water. This helps to extend the amount of time between thorough cleanings. If the water pressure gets low and you get increase it anymore with the nozzle on top, then the filter and pump need cleaning.

This requires taking the unit apart, and there are several parts so it can get tricky. I do this every few weeks, but you may need to do it more or less often depending on how many pets you have and your water quality.

Follow the manual and take pictures and videos the first time, so you can reference it the next time (it can be a bit confusing). Clean everything thoroughly to remove all the slime, but don’t use anything scratchy on the plastic.

I don’t use soap and I’m not sure if you should or not. The foam and charcoal filters surrounding the pump will be very slimy, so soak them both under the faucet and gently scrub. Also soak the pump, and use your fingernail to remove slime from the holes in the pump.

Then put everything back together and fill it with water before turning it back on. I’ve had this for a year and only last week did I buy new filters because the old ones were getting dirty to the point that I couldn’t really clean them anymore.

And I have 8 cats! So as long as you clean everything as soon as it starts getting noisy or the water pressure weakens, you can probably get away with not having to replace stuff every few weeks like they recommend.

We purchased this fountain because it was affordable and we wanted to see how our pets would take to it. They loved it. It’s been about 10 months and we are beyond ready to replace it. It requires two types of filters.

Even with regular replacements the foundation does not stream water consistently or as strong as it previously did. After cleaning it and setting it back up, the water does not stream for about 24 hours.

The main filter leaves behind a black film that is hard to tell apart from mold. Lots of little crevices to clean that easily fill with the film or mold. This device might be better for a house with a single pet.

We have 3 cats. I had to reach out to the companies support team at one point for help with the device. They were great. Friendly and helpful support.

This fountain is great. I like the way I can control the volume of the water flow. I like the fact that the cat has constant access to clean, filtered water. There are NO problems with the fountain. That said, Cookie Puss has made this fountain her own personal foot bath/water park.

Between washing her paws in the bowl and swatting the fountain stream, I spend a great deal of time mopping up little puddles, wet footprints, and all manner of drips and drops. If your cat wakes up and chooses chaos every day, you may want to think twice about giving the cat something else to play with.

Otherwise, I do like this fountain very much.

I keep finding more uses for Replenish besides the obvious hydration after hiking in the desert. Yesterday, I gave our super awesome five-year-old rescue dog Replenish in the evening before her tooth cleaning today.

As a nurse, I thought the healthy hydration would help her tolerate the procedure a bit better. She sailed through the tooth cleaning and is doing well this evening. Anytime she is not feeling well or has been out in hot weather, I give her Replenish.

If we are going on a long hike, I give her Replenish with her breakfast *before* the hike. Our dog relies on us to plan ahead for her daily activities or even a tooth cleaning, she loves Replenish and I can’t recommend it enough for active dogs.

I would like to ask the vet if she recommends this on the day before any surgical or dental procedure.

I have a Corgi dog, and he rarely likes to drink water after running around etc. So this product is a good option for us when we go to dog park etc. I find that with my dog being pretty small, I don’t pour the whole pouch into his water bowl, especially one of those collapsible silicone bowls.

the one I use is some what smaller than his normal bowl, so I don’t fill it with the same amount of water at a time — I prefer to use half to a third of the pouch to get the flavoring and some electrolytes for my dog.

Another on-the-go option would be to premix the water with the powder since at the dog park or wherever there’s nothing to mix it with — recommend this method! Overall my dog likes this product.

I am obsessed with this product! I have an extremely active dog that enjoys going for runs, swimming, and retrieving. The product comes in packets that are easy to carry with you, so I bring these with me anytime we go outside for an extended period of time.

My dog tends to play really hard and I have always had a hard time getting him to slow down and drink water. He LOVES the taste of Replenish and as soon as he sees me pull out a packet, he starts spinning in circles in anticipation! He drinks it as if it were a treat and he recovers from a day of running and playing much quicker than he did before we started using Replenish.

Purchased Replenish for my MIL’s dogs, especially her older Dalmatian. The dogs gobbled this down! It truly made a difference lifting energy level for her ailing dog. It was the one thing that McKenzie would still take when she’d pinched a nerve and was refusing food and water.

Hello Dog Lovers, I literally won’t leave for a long hike or camping trip without it. When I offer my five year old dog plain water she typically won’t drink much if anything. With Replenish, she can barely wait for me to put the bowl down to drink it up and then she is back in action! I highly recommend this product.

We already had two Torus bowls. One for the cabin and one for our house. The kids put the Torus bowl upstairs and we noticed that the dogs would scoff at the water in the kitchen and go upstairs whenever they were thirsty – thus the puchase of the third.

We always bring one when we travel. You can turn the cap so no water is added to the bowl so no sloshing around in the car. The bowl holds a lot, but when empty the dogs move the bowl to the middle of the room to let us know to refill it.

Tried another brand and had to keep pressure on the bottle for the water to stay in the drinking dish. When released it would return to the bottle. Not good. This one seals after squeezing water into the dish.

Better option especially where sanitation is concerned. Buy this one. You won’t be disappointed.

This Cat Water is a miracle for urinary infections in cats! We added 5 things to our 20 year olds daily routine over the past two years. We bought 2 double filtered fountains. We use CatWater. We give him 2 to 3 pouches of Purina Pro-Plan Hydra Care liquid supplement.

We add in sensitive stomach wet food. And he is on thyroid medicine. The 1st 3 saw his water intake triple within the first few weeks. (as proven by the results in the litter boxes!) He is more loving and doing things he has not done for years.

Plus small amounts of wet food 3 times a day and dry food available at all times. All that and his weight stays consistent right around 12lbs. All highly recommended.

So my cat has urinary issues and I’ve seen his pee start turning blue in the Pretty Litter (not a good sign) so I thought this water may help him more instead of normal filter tap water. He uses a PetLibro Waterfall dish and I’ve never had a problem with it and he loves it.

Today the water came in and I cleaned his water dish out really good. Went to work and came back to find this black algae like stuff on top as well as inside his water dish. This has never happened before and it’s our first day using this new water.

I have no clue what it could be from other than the water, seeing that’s the only new thing and this being the first appearance of this black stuff. Any recommendations or explanations??.

This is my third Drinkwell water fountain. Twelve years ago I purchased my first Drinkwell water fountain. My 2 cats really liked drinking from it, so I purchased a second one to put upstairs. My last cat passed away 10 months ago at the age of 17, and I decided it was time to retire the water fountains.

I’ve just recently adopted another rescue cat, and decided it was time to buy a new water fountain. Since I had so much luck with the first 2 fountains I decided on another Drinkwell fountain. I found the newer versions easier to clean, so that is a plus.

My new cat adjusted to drinking out of the fountain very quickly, and I know it is healthier for him to be getting water from the fountain that is moving and filtering all the time, verses water sitting in a bowl for 24 hours or more.

My suggestion would be to buy a Drinkwell fountain if you are considering the purchase of a water fountain.

My cats love these fountains. I have purchased many of them over the years. Unfortunately, it time consuming and hard to clean them. Furthermore, after a few years, they are almost impossible to keep clean.

Depending on your local water, the fountain and all the inner workings build up red slimy deposits. Then, at some point, the plastic just will not stay clean. My last fountain is only 1. 5 yrs old. It was purchased in Feb 2021.

I’ve had to stop using it, as the cats won’t drink from it anymore. I wish the manufacturer would make it out of a better material and improve the design. get rid of so many nooks and hard to clean areas.

Even the SS and ceramic versions look like the inner parts are plastic, and would be susceptible to slimy buildup. I have had no mechanical issues with the pumps not working. I just can’t keep it clean :).

I had this same fountain in use for well more than two years before the pump quit working. The pet store where it was bought said there isn’t a replacement pump, so I threw it all away with the intent to replace the fountain.

I bought a different style of the same brand name from Chewy, but the cats do not like the new one very well. At least for now that is. I am now ordering this same design to replace the old one, and it will be placed in a different room, so they will have two watering holes.

I already keep a bowl of water, and food out in this room, as well as multiple litter pans. I have been quite pleased with this fountain. It has a large bowl area too. I’m sure you will be satisfied.

My cats will occasionally knock the lid off of it and drink from there too. Goofy Animals! In short, I was quite satisfied with this fountain’s longevity, and the cats liked this one better than the newer version.

I sure do wish I had looked here for a replacement pump first. Well. I’m off to the check-out now.

It had potential but it just didn’t work. I tried everything but when I would push the button no water would come out. It even leaked a little when it was locked. I don’t know if its a one off or if a lot of them are defective.

I returned it.

Love love love this bottle. So easy to carry and offer a drink to our dog without worry about tipping over a water bowl. Love that whatever he doesn’t drink can be filtered back into the bottle. Great for trips to the Cafe or when visiting Nanna in Aged Care.

So far haven’t had any problems with the button.

It was a great item for us to take with our dog, which weighs about 5 lbs. Unfortunately, after about 2 months, the button gets stuck so there is no way for us to stop dispensing the water. Great concept, but poor quality.

I am extremely disappointed.

This works great and I’m going to keep using it despite everytime we use it, it leaks no matter how tightly you screw the top and bottom together. Perfect size for my little mini dachshund. Lots of our big dog friends have enjoyed it as well but I imagine the water tank is a bit small for larger breeds.
