20 Best Water Heater Booster (2022 Updated)

My previous residence had a 50 gallon tank water heater. My current residence has a 40 gallon tank water heater. After installing the Eemax Autobooster on my 40 gallon tank, it has just as much or even more capacity to provide hot water as the 50 gallon tank did.

I can now take 30-35 minute showers whereas before the Autobooster, I was only able to take about 15-20 minute showers with my 40 gallon tank alone. It basically turns your water tank into a smart tank with increased capacity and increased performance.

Using the Autobooster’s ECO mode, I have it set to automatically turn the tank off during particular hours of the day while everyone is at work and then automatically turn back on as everyone is arriving back home for the evening.

This helps me save on my electricity bill. The Autobooster is easy to install directly on to your tank’s 3/4″ NPT outlet.

Plumber had never installed one but the install came out great. Totally doable by average diy people. It does draw a lot of current and is making some led lights flicker but that’s less of an annoyance than running out of hot water.

Being able to see gallons per minute, and temp leaving the tank is super helpful. My setup has a mixing valve as well so this allows finer tuning and monitoring.

We have six people in our family. Usually by the end of the 3rd shower the water is getting a bit cool. The 4th shower will be cold by the end. Since we installed this booster, I’ve not had to rush to get my shower done before the water is cold.

In fact, I can take my time a little bit more without worrying about leaving one or more of the kids with a cold shower. It was worth every penny I paid for it. I just regret not putting one in a couple years earlier.

As for the install, theoretically it shouldn’t be difficult, but the fittings don’t seem to match up with most water heater plumbing I’ve seen. I’m sure I’d have been quite frustrated with the install had I taken care of it my self (which I planned to to).

However, when I sprung a leak elsewhere I had to call in a plumber, so I just had him take care of it when he was there. He had all the fittings and adapters in his truck. I’d have been back and forth to the hardware store 4 times.

A little skeptical at first, but with a wife and two daughters, we needed a little more hot water than our heater could produce. This unit met the challenge and got them all through hot showers. The “in an out” nipples are a 5/8″ compression fitting, which is NOT standard for US hot water heater systems.

The 5/8 compression to 3/4″ female fitting that came in my box was not the right design either. It was some kind of 3/4 inch flare fitting. I replaced it with a 5/8 compression to a 3/4″ shark bite just like the the other fitting that came in the box.

That worked great. Be prepared to use a 5/8 compression fitting to transition to water ever you want. From there it is DIY plumbing. I would do this again, because it was just what we needed.

The unit is designed to be installed right after the hot water tank. Instead, I mounted it under my kitchen sink, as I had high amperage 240V available nearby. It works wonders! No more letting water run for minutes for it to get hot.

My wife and I can use the sink instantly. The unit does not get used to 100%, so no issue maintaining a desired temperature.

Works great. Replaced an older unit, this on with th digital temp setting great. I am on a well, so i have to buffer the output thru a 1 gal plug 110 water heater just to cushion the varying water pressure.

I replaced the 60 gal tank yrs ago. Found when the power was off the water heater for a couple of days, the water in the tank was luke warm. SOOO this is just like dumping the water tank every 2 days.

Demand heater eliminates this loss.

As for the breaker tripping in other homes, as a licensed electrician of 26 years, I would advise you to take an amperage reading during operation. Most home owners do not have multi meters with an amp clamp so that could be difficult I understand.

If the heater is not drawing over 55 amp during operation you may have a defective circuit breaker, it happens. Try replacing your breaker. If the heater is drawing over 55 amps ther is a problem with the heater.

I appreciated Mike Vaughn’s comment and experiencing the same problem. The breaker trips half way through my shower and I am unable to fill my tub since the water starts going cold prior to the breaker tripping, consistently! Please provide the solution.

It resides on a 60 AMP breaker. Very disappointed so please provide resolution! At this point, I would not recommend this product to anyone!.

We installed 2 of these units in our new home one goes to each bathroom. One of these units had a hole that was in the brass and started to leak. We replaced it with a new one not warranty and around 3months later the other one stopped working with E1 trouble reset the unit many times and it doesn’t seem to won’t to work.

I don’t want another one.

Only worked for a few weeks then the water occasionally comes out lukewarm after waiting 5 minutes. Fast forward 3 months it doesn’t ever work anymore. Wait 5-8 minutes just to get lukewarm water. Now its summer time and the water coming out of the pipes without using this unit is actually hottest since I’ve installed this unit.

Purchased to boost the temperature of the hot water since the water heater is 60′ away from the kitchen sink. Since I only had 120v under the sink I was limited to the smaller unit. It does little to increase the temperature.

If this is your need, then figure out how to use 240v units.

I love the idea of it. Functionally and practically it works fine. it just took us a lot longer to set it up. the nozzle conversion didn’t fit and we went through 3 different sizes/threads, even with a plumber’s help.

It takes a little getting used to. less pressure. Be patient, it takes 7 – 10 seconds to heat up. (but that’s waaaay less than what we had, while wasting all that water in the line).

I put this device in an apartment and am excited by how great it works. I subtract one star because the device is activated by a flow rate no lower than 1. 6 GPM and many faucets don’t flow that fast.

Have it within 10 feet of shower and sink; just turn the shower on just enough to activate the shower head. whether you get 30 seconds of heat, then cold, or even temp throughout shower is a crap shoot.

Constantly adjusting it to try and get a stable heat flow; very hard to do.

Easy to install. Produces more really hot water than I need. I’m in South Florida, so I don’t even turn it up to maximum heating. Adjustable to be able to work with 10, 20, 30, or 40 amp breakers, depending on the temperature needed.

20 or 30 amps is sufficient.

Works great. Using it in dual fuel water heater to save energy. Only runs when hot water circulation pump comes on. Used with a propane water heater to save expensive propane.

Used above 40 gallon Rheem heat pump water heater so Rheem is heat pump only and this booster keeps water at 120 when heat pump doesnt keep up. More efficient and more capacity than high demand mode with Rheem hybrid mode.

This is the second valve that I have ordered. The first one lasted less than a year and we started to notice our water wasn’t as hot as it usually was and the pressure had dropped. After a process of elimination, it was the mixing valve restricting hot water flow out of the water heater.

The inlet screen has minor debris but nothing that would restrict the flow down to what it was. I replaced that first one in August of 2020 and ended up removing the second one on June 6. We had been gradually experiencing the same symptoms up until there was no water pressure or heat to it once again.

I will be avoiding this product and just plumbing the water heater in the old fashioned way sadly.

I installed this the same day with a new 40 gallon Power Vent. We were able to take 3 showers back to back without losing any water temperature. Within the last month we noticed that we were experiencing lags in hot water delivery.

Verified that there were no restrictions in the hot water supply to the Tank Booster. Adjusted booster and now the temperature is no longer regulated. Also noticed that there is a bit of leakage on the fittings, not on the seals.

I have several SharkBite fittings in our home and really like them. I’m disappointed that this product is having issues so soon and at all, especially due to the issue of scalding.

Balancing the boiler to the storage tank has never worked. until now! Love that it lets us keep the storage tank water hotter without burning little kid hands. A year in and everything is still perfect.

We have a tankless water heater that we bought to replace our two 50 gallon water heaters that kept 100 gallons of water hot every minute of every day, etc. They finally died after 14 years of use. We could not get hot water from them to our kitchen sink/dishwasher in less than 15 minutes.

Yes, what a waster of water and money. We replaced them with a tankless system that is very efficient but we still had to wait for hot water to the kitchen. I finally had this eemax heater installed under my kitchen sink and now have instant hot water! No more waiting and smaller water bills! Very nice unit and low price for a quality heater.

This is a terrific product. I have 2 of them now, and they work great. I bought the first one several years ago, and have had no issues with it. However, installing the 2nd one recently reminded me of the time I installed the first one, and that had to do with the screwing on of the connections.

The first connection issue is the screwing in of the overflow valve. It goes in fine. It just leaks. I tried with and without teflon tape. Didn’t matter. And for both installations the “solution” was to keep tightening with a long wrench past the point where you think you will break the thing until finally, the leak stops.

Then it holds. For years. But still. The second, recent one, was worse, in that the hose connections to the main water supply were EXTREMELY difficult to screw on. I bought the standard flexible metal hoses at Home Depot, but I couldn’t get the screw-on part to “take”.

The threads wouldn’t mate because there was something about the tank connector, when pushed into the hose, just wouldn’t reach the thread. With a lot of cursing, and pushing as hard as I could down on the hose, and after maybe 30-60 minutes, I finally could get each hose started, and was able to screw them on with a wrench.

But this took a LOT of force pushing them together to make this work. This should have been easy, as it was to screw the other end of the hoses to the water supply. And as I said, once installed,. love the product.

Once I ran a dedicated outlet from a nearby bathroom receptacle, this was a quick and easy install for my application. Although I bought a couple of fittings as other reviewers mentioned I did not need them based on my existing plumbing.

I ran the house hot to the water heater cold input then the hot output to the vanity’s hot faucet. Took about 45 minutes to install and have hot water.

Delivered on time with good packing. Worked as advertised with lots of heat for a low water flow. Hot water in 2-3 seconds!

Useful for a quick cheap hot water fix where space is limited . Not great flow if you want hot hot water …

It works well now I have installed it. The angled connectors are difficult to fit into the device and cutting out the access holes is not easy..

I installed the CM-40L on a dual lavatory. Both faucets are low flow 0. 35 single handle. Water is hot within seconds (time to flow through pipe). Imagine hot water to wash up without the wait. Initially the hot water pressure was kinda low, especially with both faucets full hot.

But then i removed a flow restrictor from the nipple on the heater’s outlet. That fixed it. Now good pressure and temperature even with both faucets on.

I needed to replace a 12 Gallon more traditional electric water heater that serviced my kitchen sink and dishwasher. I initially wanted to use an on-demand electric water heater, but I could not accommodate the high amp draw and wiring required for this replacement.

After researching all my options, this unit surfaced as the clear winner! It is so well made, the glass-lined tank is a game-changer as my previous unit basically corroded itself into a rust puddle. Massive efficiency gains, it even remains cool to the touch! I was initially worried about downsizing to a 6 gallon model, but after a few months only once during thanksgiving dinner did I hit the point where cold water was running during cleanup.

it should not be an issue if you have any modern lower flow kitchen sink faucets with daily use. plus the recovery time is quick. I am so impressed with Stiebel Eltron that I will 100% be using them to update my remaining water heaters ASAP!.

I have used conventional mini tank heaters from other manufacturers. They have all leaked after a few years. Often the leaks were slow and not noticed until damage occurred to cabinetry. I am running two of these that are about 2 years old, no signs of leakage and by mounting them a few inches above to floor any leakage would be easy to spot.

They are well designed and much better looking. I just changed the anodes on them. the original anodes were completely gone. If you want long life out of any water heater this needs to be done about every 2 years.

I had trouble deciding which type of anode needed. I used the 304644 anode that easily screwed into the heat element plug. I don’t think that was the original placement on these older units but it works and was easy to install.

I have two of these now, both working well tho they have only been installed for a month. Both are installed on hot water lines, not cold, due to long delay in getting hot water to needed locations. Now have nearly instant hot water, but remember as you start draining a 2.

5 gal tank the cooler water is also entering, which soon serves to cool the water in the tank. So you don’t get 2. 5 gal hot water, you get maybe 1-1. 5 gal and then it switches over to warm water. So this is really useful for short uses like washing hands, washing a few dishes, etc.

Unit seems very well made (Germany), the 1/2 inch male connectors on the tank are metal not plastic, has a pressure release valve (many don’t), solid look and feel to it, temp adjustment works well you will get very hot water if you want it.

It’s bigger than I though, especially the depth dimension, suggest you get the full specs from the S-E website so that you know it will fit the space. Easy to install. Only info I don’t have is how much energy these consume.

My impression is they are very well insulated and thus very efficient. But I may get a meter and try to measure this. Very happy so far, but performance over time is the true test,.

i bought this about 6 years ago at denault’s ace hardware in carlsbad calif; the reliance 6 gallon water heater just failed; trying to get warranty dispensation is impossible: they want me to go back to my 2014 files and dig out ‘proof of purchase’ though their records say it was manufactured 8/2013; there is no such thing as the ‘reliance water heater company,’ rather an ‘a.

o. smith’ answers all calls; when i asked if they engineer their products to fail at the end of the warranty period, they really had no answer– apparently they do engineer their products to fail at the end.

I installed my water heater a couple of days ago. Everything went well except I tried to be prepared, and purchased necessary connections based on the old 6-gallon water heater connections, but found the inlet, and outlet connections were 3/4″ pipe vs the 1/2″ pipes on the old water heater.

It would help to list the various connection sizes so that the purchaser could get everything before the actual installation. I want to thank Walmart for expediting my delivery date to my home. I was first told it would not ship until 9-7, but I received it 9-1, thanks again.

Our 30 + yr old tankless died and we went out shopping for a replacement that we’d hoped to install ourselves. The Big Box hardware store was out of the Rheem model that we thought would fit our needs, so we began an online search and found CPO.

We received the BEST in customer service and would not hesitate to buy from them again. That said, when the water heater arrived and my husband read the instructions, he realized he was in over his head, and we should call a plumber.

We are quite pleased with the product and the strides that have been made in tankless water heating. We can shower and run the washing machine at the same time without any fluctuation in temp. The unit is compact and thanks to a local plumber installed to perfection!.

Last month, we replaced our Prestige 84 DV with the same unit. The first one developed an internal leak and shorted something so it failed to work. The first was 2. 5 years old and never had a failure.

I hope to have the first repaired by Rheem to have as an in series unit. I replaced the first with a like unit because it is easy to install and we were plumbed for the unit.

The product was installed a week ago tomorrow so I’ not sure this is a very conclusive review. Might be better to ask for a review six months from now. I trust the name Rheem and thus far I like my new water heater.

Very displeased with rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was apart of a warrant claim. http://www. rheem. com/recalls I called and was sent an email and opened up original case # 525522 where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater(which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and apart of a recall.

After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge.

But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case 527959. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number. they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product.

The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. there is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater.

literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out an buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28.

I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit. it is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge.

but when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done this went out 4/23.

and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from rheem. No one ever get rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.

I bought & installed the 40-Gal. electric version less than 2 years ago for our vacation home in the PA Pocono Mountains. It’s installed in a small utility room in the basement where we only power it up when we’re there for a visit.

It worked fine initially but recently started giving us Leak-Detection alarms which, since there’s no indication of a leak, I assume might be due to the higher humidity conditions there during the summer months.

I clear the alarm to turn the automatic shut-off valve back on and it restores operation for 24 hours. only to have the alarm reactivate at that time. I’ve called Customer Support twice just to be given directions on how to access the moisture-sensor and dry it off.

Since it’s still under the 3-year “unconditional warranty” period, I was hoping for a visit by a service person but that didn’t happen. I tried having a fan move the surrounding air with no success. Operation seems to be better in the winter months when the utility room is heated and, I assume, drier.

Unfortunately there’s no way to deactivate the leak-detector alarm or change the sensitivity. it sure would be nice if it had one of those options!.

I had this Rheem professionally installed by a Rheem Pro Partner on 01/24/20. The first unit that was installed turned out to be defective on start-up and the installer had to return it to Home Depot the same day and install a second one.

No biggie, I thought, at least the second one works and I have hot water. I couldn’t get the EcoApp to install on my phone, but again, I thought, no biggie, I don’t really need to control my hot water tank over my phone.

Now, just 16 months later, although the red “Service Needed” button isn’t on, the control unit has started beeping persistently. None of the buttons on the control panel are responsive and nothing will stop the unit from beeping.

Two units in less than 18 months? I won’t be burnt by Rheem again. So disappointed – I bought this unit to replace a basic 16 year old Rheem which had functioned beautifully.

Perfect replacement for my leaking coil gasket. Its well made and fit my Weil Mclain Boiler Model 68 perfectly and gives plenty of hot water. It comes with the gasket and new studs with brass nuts. A bit time consuming but not hard if your handy and don’t have trouble removing the old bolts.

A very well made tankless coil, properly labeled, and is much better than the cheaper other brand. anyway it was a perfect fit for a Weil McLain 68 4 section Boiler. Comes with the gasket, and bolts.

Bolt in and done. All parts ordered fit perfectly and work great. Easy/friendly ordering. Saturday order on doorstep Monday. Wow!

I picked up the water heater I ordered which was in a taped up box with the corners in rough shape. When I got home and opened the box there was a big dent in the side of the heater. I think when an item has been previously returned in a taped up box, it is the stores responsibility to check it out for damages before restocking it and selling it to me.

So back to the store I go to return it ( wasted time) and of course there are no more in stock. The plumber was coming the next day to install it, so I had to shop elsewhere to get the product I wanted.

This has been my only disappointing experience so far at this store.

When I went to pickup the water heater, it took forever for someone to come out and take the paper work. Then it took another long time to get heater. When it finally got to the car I noticed it had a hole punched in the box near the top of the box.

I asked about it. They just put it in the car without answering me. There is a dent at the top of the tank. A lot of money for damaged heater.

This Reliance water heater replaced the previous Reliance water heater that I installed 23 years. The controls have been modernized and the unit was easy to start and is working well. Will this one last 23 more years? Will I?.
