20 Best Water Storage Tanks (2022 Updated)

Thiis Wel-X-Trol Well tank is an exact replacement for my 32-year-old tank. My old tank is still working great. So, why did I buy another one? I wanted a spare “on the shelf” just in case the old one failed.

My well cycles often throughout the day, so my current tank gets a work-out. It isn’t as if it doesn’t get used. It holds its air pressure which is set at 33 psi for a pressure switch cut-in pressure of 35 psi.

Cut-out is ay 55 psi. I last adjusted the pressure up from the original setting of 28 psi, about 20 years ago. It was right on at the original setting, and it remains right on at the “new” pressure. This all says a lot about the quality of this tank.

Many homes in my area have these tanks as their systems were put in by only a small number of well drillers. They all used these tanks. I’ve seen other brands set out in the trash, but I have never seen a Wel-X-Trol set out for scrap.

My tank is one of the newer ones.

I built a new home with the WX-251 62 gallon tank installed. After 3 years that product became defective. Now after an additional 4 years the replacement has also become defective. They have warrantied the product, but each time I get stuck with an expensive service bill.

There is no consideration for the client facing these costs which should be covered by Amtrol. If the tank would last as they claim, I wouldn’t be facing these costs. Getting the tank replaced under warranty has been very difficult and their customer service or lack there of is even worse.

I’m very pleased with the pressure tank itself (5 stars). I reviewed many before purchasing and found this to be the best one for quality and my space requirements. The frustrating thing was that I had to return it twice due to the tank being all beat up when it arrived (zero stars)! I had read on SupplyHouse that many others were having the same issue.

The tank has almost no protective measures inside the box. my wife and I couldn’t believe that they wouldn’t use a piece of styrofoam over the top of the tank (where most damages were). However, returning it was very easy and the service people were easy to work with and very friendly (5 stars).

just maddening to keep returning a produce when you have your existing tank not working!.

I purchased this tank to supply/return solution used to descale my pressure washer pumps. It works great for this purpose. I started with a 3/4 in. NPT(M) to Garden Hose adapter to a garden hose reinforced for suction.

From there a water transfer pump to another short length of garden hose hooked up to the inlet of my pressure washer pump. The outlet of the pump has a short length of hose back to the tank to recirculate the solution.

After ten to twenty minutes, my equipment is sufficiently cleaned, I switch to water only to remove residual scale and chemical. Small tanks like this are not usually stocked onsite. They not very heavy, but their size can cost a lot extra in delivery charges.

Tractor Supply made this purchase very easy. I ordered it online, was notified when it had arrived at my local store, and it took the staff about two minutes to retrieve my item when I picked it up. Best of all–no shipping charges!!!.

I’ve been looking for a small, heavy duty tank for several years now to hold liquid fertilizer for my drip irrigation system in my garden and was only able to find light weight containers in either 5 or 10 gallon capacity.

I stumble on to this 16 gallon tank on an online flyer from Tractor Supply and it is the perfect size for what i am using it for. Other light weight containers would only last a year or 2 setting out in the weather.

This tank is really well constructed and a heavy enough gauge that it should last me many years.

Simple construction, nice deep grooves for tie down and a good quality vented lid. Bulkhead fitting was good quality and well sealed for no leaks. And. Made in the US in Mentor, Ohio just down the road.

After waiting several months due to another WX-250 damaged in shipment, this unit finally arrived. Shipping container was intact this time. Took unit out, no damage, no dents, 40 lb pressure in tank as advertised.

Been installed now for several weeks with no problems. I was not expecting any as it replaced another Amtrol Well-X-Trol that was installed 32+ years ago. I also used a number of fittings all from Supply House.

I must note the excellent support I received from Supply House during my ordering process and receipt of a second unit damaged during UPS delivery. They are top-notch just like the Amtrol brand.

I was impressed with all of the information online especially the measurements. My old Welltroll WX 202 20 gallon 32 years old and still going but I noticed it being weak and pressure dropped off quickly With a reduction in water flow.

despite not being saturated. The New tank WX 203 32 gallon has the same diameter measurements just taller making the installation easier. I also bought the brass 10 inch T with Union so if need to change in future it will be a quick exchange.

I also got the boiler valve and pressure relief valve and used my old adjustable pressure switch. I run my pressure 45/65 and adjusted the new tank to 43 pounds before installing. My system now kicks in much less than before and pressure is holding at faucets without a reduced water flow like I had.

Shipping was fast and no damages on any of my parts. Much cheaper than local vendors. Good Job guys.

This is the small tank I was looking for, and exactly what I needed. I could not even make the purchase, simply because it does not come with a plug, stopper, or valve, and the store does not carry any fittings to make this tank work.

The store provided outstanding service, but they were left scratching their heads, because they tried over a dozen fittings in stock, and none of them worked, even the ones that were suggested for this product specifically.

The fittings seem to be off by 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch. There are other reviews stating this same thing.

I needed a water tank to refill our RV water tank when we are boondocking. I used to use the 5 gallon carboys and a funnel. But this old man is getting weaker and more sore with each passing year so I needed to come up with something new.

I purchased a 12 volt transfer pump with 3/4″ garden hose connections. This tank will hold the equivalent of 13 5 gal. carboys. I picked it up, put it on the cart then headed over to the hose fitting section of my local Tractor Supply.

I read the one and two star reviews that said the outlet fitting was a non-standard size. Sure enough, I could not get a 1″ female fitting to thread onto the male outlet fitting because the male outlet was a little too big and 1-1/4″ female was way too large.

I enlisted the help of a TS worker and after 5 minutes or so of trying to figure it out, she noticed there were threads on the inside of the male threaded outlet (I completely missed them). We sourced a 3/4″ male (fine thread) x 3/4″ male fitting (course thread garden hose) and voila! Problem solved.

I can now hook up a 3/4″ hose, valve or whatever to the tank and then on to the transfer pump. The plastic is extremely thick, the inlet orifice is large, it’s extremely stable and it has two furrows in the diameter of the cylinder so I can strap this baby into the pickup bed nice and secure.

Highly recommended!.

It is a solid little container with a good cap on top that automatically releases air pressure. The down side to this is that it doesn’t come with any type of cap or spigot for the dispensing part. You have to spend more money just to be able to close it off.

Lastly, using a reducing spigot for a regular garden hose really reduces the water flow. It was just above a trickle with the spigot they recommended. I ended up buying another one at a different store that allowed more water, but still not great.

Patience is a virtue.

I used this on my 2018 Sprinter 2500 170 Conversion. It fit perfectly under the van behind the drivers seat. I did have to fabricate brackets to mount the tank but I expected to do that since tank does not come with brackets.

The issue I have with the tank and the reason for the 3 stars is the build quality. As another reviewer mentioned, there were plastic shavings in the tank that I cleaned out before installing the tank.

The manufacturers installation of the threaded fittings looks like it was done by a 4 year old with big drips everywhere and sloppy work. The biggest problem is that the TANK LEAKS. It took awhile to find the lead but it was at the top of the fitting attachment for the vent hose.

I put some goop on it and it seems to be holding. Even with the leak, only the top 1/2 of water leaks out.

Overall as a product, It came to my house in good time. The tank holds water without leaking. The water lines that come with it are fine as well. They hooked right up and did not leak. I had to get different ones due to how I was hooking it up.

It works, but is cheaply manufactured like most other tanks. The function could be greatly improved if the drain port was placed in a sump. I have to place my camper on a considerable side hill or drive with the drain open to get most of the water out.

I needed a 40 gallon fresh water tank for our food trailer. Record had the size, price, and deli date to fit my needs. Great quality tank easy to work with. Very pleased with my purchase. If needed I will definitely purchase from record again.

It is just an air tank that works great. If you have a 1 hp or greater pump, then the tank is minimum size for the job. Prayer #2 to the guy in the sky. Here is a paper put out for scientific review.

Please be aware that indoctrination and education are the opposite of each other. This paper falls under education, NOT indoctrination. Please lorddy, please eliminate all knowledge of biology, physics and chemistry.

HEY! The laws of physics can be violated and there can be a giant trough of water three miles high surrounding all land masses! The only other option to have these special forms of life is by ‘special delivery’.

OOPS, that wood raft had to travel lots and lots of miles to do this! 6. What form of propulsion did the ark have to allow the unique life forms on all different land masses? Ooops. the ark went on water.

We have a problem! Some would say that this is impossible!. Heck, if you have the ‘religion’ all can be explained! Please do so! In the meantime, vote for ANY Catholic and you vote for known verified failure for over 1500 years.

Ortonville Ace had this tank in stock. Big box stores had none. Preferred a slightly larger tank but the old one failed and needed one quickly. One piece of pipe I needed was out of stock so the guys made me one.

Also got helpful advice on the plumbing connections and the job went smoothly. Price was great too. Ace is the place!.

The original pressure tank in the mountain cabin had failed so I searched on line for a replacement. Most were priced higher than I felt they were worth but then I found this one at about half what the others were asking.

I was concerned about the quality but decided to take a chance since the specs were the same as the higher priced models. I was delighted when it arrived to find it to be of equal quality. The instructions were very clear and complete and it was a breeze to exchange it because it fit exactly the same as the original.

The water system now functions perfectly!.

Got this tank to use as a water transport for new plantings that require more watering than the programmed drip system. Fits great in the back of the Stallion UTV I use for getting around on 7 acres of mountain property.

The bulkhead fitting takes a standard outside bib faucet and will drain down to about a half gallon (maybe just a little more) without having to tip up (Stallion has tilt bed and the tank is strapped down).

Tank is water tight at all factory openings – no leaks even after travelling over rough terrain. Large top opening makes it possible to drop a pump pick up in if you need to deliver water/contents above the tank.

Tank is kept inside out of sunlight, so I don’t know how UV resistant it is, but I imagine it would be resilient to a point. I expect to have this for several years as it is well made/sturdy. Will probably get another to use for fertilizer applications and will fit next to the other tank with a little room to spare in the bed of the Stallion.

Exactly as described and high quality polyurethane material, with no leaks and a solid construction. Had the fitting I needed at the bottom and large filling cap on top, strap guidelines along the outsides and gallon count measures on the front for precise filling as needed.

The tank stays very stable on its own weight with its square flat bottom, of course it is well straped onto a trailer, no issues at all. Shipping was quick too.

Perfect size to haul in our truck or trailer. Love it! Easy to use and quick to fill. Ordered in store online and saved $50 in shipping!

Couple of things here. 1- For some unknown reason Supply House could not tell me if this tank had a lift nut or lift ring to pick it up by. It did! Turns out it, has a plastic cover screwed into a 5/8″ nut welded to the top of the tank? I had a 1/2″ inch bolt that just dropped into the lift nut.

My neighbor looked and looked thru his stuff and found several bolts, one of which worked. A ½” bolt was too small and ¾” was too big. He then welded an eyebolt to the 5/8″ bolt. With the 5/8″ bolt and welded eye bolt, we had an easy way to left it into my subsurface 8 ft deep well house.

2- Amtrol or Supply House should state in their specification that this WX-255 tank has a lift nut welded to the top which is 5/8″ x ? thread and it is covered by a plastic threaded piece to keep it from rusting.

Or, even better, put an eye bolt covered with envelope type bubble wrap, then securely tape it to the side of the tank for easy use. 3. This information should be readily available from either Amtrol or Supply House so we know there is a way to lift the tank or easily grab hold of the bolt on top and move the tank around.

Tank has no handles or anything to grab hold of. Providing a 5/8″ bolt would have helped me. 4. Other than a lack of information from the seller and/or Amtrol the tank seems to be working great.

If this tank last half as long as my Sears Captive Air Tank, (30 years on my Sears captive air), it will be worth 5 stars. 3-4 for now. Couple of things here. 1- For some unknown reason Supply House could not tell me if this tank had a lift nut or lift ring to pick it up by.

Replacing a 33 year old WX203 with a WX302 for good practice since the old one had rust issues with the base and probably a slow drip from the t-fitting. I could never prove why there was moisture on the basement floor in the summer, but when the old tanlk was removed the base was getting to be pretty rough and a rust spot was visible at the pipe fitting indicatng the slow leak.

A 302 is overkill, but with a deep well, I want to preserve the pump for as long as possibe. There was a small dent on the top of the tank not seen when signng off but that’s my fault since the top of the box looked a little beat up.

Just a flat spot that no-one will ever notice. For the most part I’m happy with the SupplyHouse’ pricing and quick shipping of small packages. However the freight company used for this shipment took about a month to get it from SH to my door.

I’m not going to harp on details and SH did compensate me for the delay. However, the poor customer service from the shipping company was frustrating enough that I’m taking a star off since SH is respnsible for the shipper they use.

This is a reasonably priced water container however, as others have noted the spigot included isn’t provided with an 0-ring so it will leak. At least both of mine did. A trip to the hardware store remedied that but it seems a rather odd oversight not to include one.

The plastic is OK if you don’t think you’ll be moving this container around much. I plan to use it camping and feel the need to protect the bottom of it because I sense if it is pushed around on a surface much the plastic could potentially wear through.

It is wickedly heavy when full (56lbs) so definitely an item better filled in place and left in place if possible. But if partially filled it is much easier to maneuver. I don’t think it would take much abuse as the plastic is adequate for holding water so I’m a little wary of using it for camping and feel the need to be very careful with it in that setting.

As long as it’s limitations are kept in mind it’s an adequate water container but don’t expect it to survive much rough handling and there is no way you could stack these on top of each other.

Easy to use and carry, but the plastic has a strong smell that affects the taste of the water. The smell/taste did not diminish with cleaning or use. Sad because I’ve had several containers of this brand over the years and never had an issue with odors until now.

These containers are okay for carrying washing water but not for drinking water. I needed them for additional drinking water.

Does the job! They are good containers, and look like they will last. I love that they have a spout inside the lid, for dispensing water when needed. We bought these as a prep item. The only negative is that you can only stack them 2 high.

If you stack them higher than that they was most likely crush each-other. They are 7 gallons. so they’re heavy. I’m only 100lbs and can only move them short distances, but my husband can handle them better.

Just something you don’t want to have to move around a lot once they’re filled. Good quality for the money.

The storage tank was received undamaged and already pressurized and ready for installation. This tank replaced a smaller Reverse Osmosis storage tank where the bladder had ruptured. I used the shutoff valve from the old tank on this new tank after I wrapped the new tank’s inlet threads with teflon tape.

The RO system filled the pressurized tank as expected and everything is now working properly. The true measure of this tank will be just how long it’s bladder remains intact and pressurized. Hopefully it’ll stand the test of time and I won’t be dissapointed for at least 5 – 10 years.

My pressure tank was no longer keeping pressure as the bladder was compromised. This tank is the perfect replacement. It was delivered in perfect condition and speedily.

My previous tank wouldn’t keep an air charge and was just about to rust through. It was unusable so I bought this one. This one is a little bigger and holds more filtered water. Works perfect and now I can fill any container that I use without the flow wlowing down at all, even after someone else has used the water.

It has a little stand that keeps it up so the bottom wont rust like my previous tank too.

I’ve had an RO system from apec for about 6 years, a few months ago I noticed less pressure and after trying to fix my old tank, realized it had broken after years of heavy service. I was thrilled to find the same company selling parts on eBay.

I have this water system and I must say it really works great at getting bad things out of your water from your well. It makes the water taste so much better

My husband purchased this I have no idea how to use it all I know is that I cannot drink tapwater and after complaining about it he bought me this and I love it

I looked at some other products and saw that they had bad reviews. This tank installed easily and had all the features that I expected. It has a steel elbow installed on the bottom so that a fitting will not crack or fit poorly.

I installed the tank and checked the pressure on the bladder, made a minor adjustment and the tank has been working fine. I hope this review has been helpful.

Very nice, haven’t installed it yet but my son has the same one and his works great. After getting it the box said to count your water outputs to pick the size tsnk we could of usd the 32 gallon but should be ok because two are never used.

The tank fits perfectly under the tonneau cover on my truck. It is also good for six or so details before needing a refill. Highly recommend this tank to anyone looking to have a functional business and be able to use the tonneau cover to protect assets.

Fits perfectly in my truck. Easy to setup. I like the fact that’s it’s not big and bulky.

I purchased the tanks for my food trailer that is being built. After checking with the FDA which I get licensed through I realized these tanks were not going to work for me. I wish they would start building their tanks that would have at least 2 – 1.

5″ opening in them. One so your 3 bay and hand wash sinks that have a 1. 5″ drain could drain into the grey tank. They only have 1 -1″ port and 3 ports that a 3/8″ male adapter fit in. I called the company and they didn’t have a problem taking them back.

They were in original packaging and never used. The big problem was they charged me almost $75. 00 for return shipping. Yes, the boxes were big but weighed hardly anything. I ended up buying the ones I needed from Class A Customs.

Expensive learning lesson.

This tank is exactly as it says. I have not installed it yet. Being its freezing here! I can tell it is good quality plastic. Nice and sturdy. Unlike some reviews I’ve read on other cheaper models. It was at my door step in a day and a half from when I ordered it.

Tank is fine delivery was good. However, there is no NFS stamp or logo o. The tank and no certificate in the box. Hoping our inspector accepts the claim of NFS from the invoice.

Of course the price was good or I wouldn’t have been shopping here. However, it also arrived quickly, which is a requirement for plumbing projects. I was concerned that a big heavy item like this tank might be damaged in transit.

However, it was in an original box inside another nice box, all safe and sound. I was legit impressed with the packing. no worries at all. So if you’re concerned as I was, put your mind at ease. I would definitely shop here again for this (or any other) plumbing item.

Replaced a similar 30 year old tank. Works as it should. Delivered on time undamaged. Gotta love Supplyhouse!

I bought this tank for my horse. The original water trough was too low, which allowed dirt, debris, etc. to blow in to it. Also, it didn’t hold much water, and some of the other horses pooped in theirs.

The main reason I purchased this particular size and brand was because it has a drain plug in the lower side. This way the water can be drained easily to clean the inside. I would have preferred a tan colored tub, thinking it would reflect the heat in the summer, however the dark gray color may help to keep algae from growing because it doesn’t allow light in.

Not sure. The troughs don’t weigh much, it was easy for me to load several in to my mini van. However, when filled with water it keeps the horses from moving them around, and the sides are high enough they can’t stand in them.

I just purchased these a few weeks ago so I don’t know how they’ll hold up. They appear sturdy so they should be fine.

The only reason we gave this 1 star is because we could not give it 0 stars. We purchased our first Rubbermaid tank roughly two years ago and it lasted about a year before a pin hole developed on the lower left half of the tank.

We tried patching the hole with different products, but nothing seemed to work long term. We figured it was just bad luck. We ended up buying a second tank that we have now had a year. So far this tank is doing good, but I am holding my breath.

About 4 months ago, we bought a third tank and after a few weeks it developed a major leak around the plug that could not be fixed. Out of 3 Rubbermaid tanks that we have purchased, two have failed in under a year.

We will no longer purchase tanks from this company.

I love these, excellent for shorter animals. I have several of this type of tank for my goats, mini pigs, dogs and other animals. It’s deep enough the water doesn’t usually get very warm – even in the sun – and dogs and birds can get in a take a dip.

They last forever even with mediocre care. The only thing is this style doesn’t have the drain plug in the bottom. Most of the time my tanks are so full of silt that I normally just dump them rather than drain them but if you’re looking for the drain spout, you’ll either have to create it yourself or find another version.

I was stoked that the Brunswick, Maine location had these in multiple sizes in stock! It was easy to load, rolled right on the trailer and worked perfectly for our outdoor wedding last weekend. This was a key part of having fresh potable water at the wedding and I am so grateful I did not have to order it and have it shipped from Texas.

Great tank. Over priced. The last one I bought was 5 years ago and it was less than half this price

I bought this tank a few weeks ago for my farm and it is doing well. It can easily be moved with two people off a truck and rolled by one person to its destination. Easily fits in a 8’ f150 truck bed.

I bought this a month ago to store raw sewage, buried it and thought I was all set. Pumped it full of farm sewage on the day after purchase. Then my son ran his (relatively light weight) Silverado over the place where the tank is buried and the darn thing was compromised.

Now I got a real mess on my hands. What happened, Norwesco??? TSC was great with sales and service.

We really like this product and you’ll want to tip it towards the opening on top and vacuum out the plastic dunnage on the inside left over from them drilling out the fittings.

1. This tank is approximately 8′ tall & 8′ wide with 1/4″ thick walls! 2. This tank is strong enough to use for a storage or living quarters! 3. With the installation of a framed exterior door it is ready to move into immediately! 4.

It can also be used for a houseboat!.

We went from a 2500 gallon tank to this 1550 gallon tank with no problem to the existing water system infrastructure.

Build quality does the job. Screws around upper lid stripped and not secure but good enough and no leaks.

Easy to set up to collect rainwater from roof, which is what we do. We are off the water grid, and didn’t want to pay for a well/have to use electricity to pump from a well. Live in an area that is very hard to dig deep enough for underground cistern.

We purify the rainwater that we drink with a Berkey, and painted the outside of the tanks (we have 2) white to keep the water from evaporating.
