20 Best Waterer For Chickens (2022 Updated)

I have been using this product for going on two months now and my chicks and I love it! The nipples worked but I did fill like my chicks would benefit more if I replaced them with the cups. Perfect! I didn’t have to do anything just screw them in because OverEz company was great in helping me purchase the right ones.

I seen a couple of reviews that stated something about mold, well, I keep my water clean at all times as well as use organic apple cider vinegar. I have no problems. Plus, if you do not want to you do not have to fill it all the way up.

I would also place this water container where I could reach it with a hose because it is however 12 gallons. So it’s heavy. I have mine set up in a way where I don’t have to move it except when it’s time to clean it.

I just ordered my second one because we have a large flock. Perfect money spent so far. No regrets!.

OMG! This is a game changer! We set up our waterer in a pen with 12 extra large Brahmas because they were the messiest. The traditional 10 gallon waterer was always dirty and leaked out the sides causing a constant wet area.

By the second day, they’d tip the darn thing over. Especially sucks during winter. It’s been 2 weeks and 2 days. We have yet to refill this waterer. It hasn’t grown any algea throughout this heatwave.

Looks as good as the day we filled it. We used no additive to keep it clean. Birds learned how to use it within 1/2 an hour. It now takes me 5 minutes, once a week to rake out their pen. I’m back to buy enough to cover the rest of the pens.

Today, With the extra time saved, I’m gonna take out a lawn chair and just enjoy watching my birds for once.

What a great watering container for the chickens! It holds so much water and when placed on a cinder block, it stays clean and is easy for my “ladies” to drink from. The other types of waterers seem to get dirty quickly or the little spouts break easily.

But this one has withstood all seven of my ladies abuse and allows for plenty of water to be stored so I don’t have to fill the container every other day. And the best part too is that it, along with a flock block, allows me to take a weekend trip away from home and I don’t have to have anyone go inside the pen to feed/water the chickens.

I wish I’d have known about this waterer sooner; it’s a great addition to the hen house.

I think I would like this fountain, but I cannot get a vacuum seal. Water continues to pour out and it overflows. Anyone have any tips to getting a good seal? Waterer is new so nothing should be worn out.

I have tried the lid not too tight, and a little tighter. Nothing seems to help. I would welcome any advice. I would love to up my review if I can get a good seal.

Bought my first 5 gallon and it worked fine for about 3 months. Then the top cap wouldn’t hold its seal. So after losing gallons of water, I tried the old trusted “put vasoline on it. It worked for about 4 more weeks, then on the last fill, the top cap cracked in half.

I thought it was just a fluke and returned it to Rural King. They swapped me out for a new one, came home and tried it for the first time. I’m not sure if I’m apprehensive about tightening it too much, but lost all water after the first day.

Today is day two, and torqued it a little more. Does anyone know of any other fixes for the cap problem? I like the container, but I can’t take much more of this. HELP.

Excellent waterer for caged, small livestock. I’ve purchased two of these for injured pullets and to add a water source outside in the summer. They are sturdy, durable and–generally–built in a way to keep the water clean.

Except for the fouling fowl do when they are scratching about. Thoroughly recommend the manufacturer–whose products populate my coop. My only criticism is that a larger version should be offered, too supply water through the day.

I went off other reviews of how small it is. I wanted it for grit and crushed oyster shells for the ducks. (I only have 6) It’s perfect!

Perfect feeder for free choice shell and grit for small flocks. No sharp corners or edges to cause injury. Sturdy hangers on the back. A little difficult to fill but worth the effort. My chicken friend saw mine and ordered some for her own coops.

I purchased a few of these last year and really like how they work. Some might be a little tight fitting at first but after a few openings and closings the pieces fit together nicely. Large enough to keep the water cooler in the summer heat but not too large to make it difficult to carry.

Just bought four more of the 3. 5 gallon waterers, that’s how much I like them.

I use 2 of these to water my quail,doves,wild bunnies & small birds. Unlike a larger one I used in the past this is easy to fill and carry to where I place it. Always make sure its on level ground so the water doesnt run out.

I’ve had this bucket for about 2 months now and I love it! The water stays super clean and the girls had no problem adjusting to the nipples. Before, I was using a semi-open bucket and between the dirty beaks and dust I was changing the water every day.

Now I only need to refill about once a week (I have 4 hens). The temperatures have dropped significantly this week (into the 20s) but the water has remained completely unfrozen. So glad I got this!.

After about one week of use: Good capacity for my 6 birds. Closed to exclude debris and dust, no spills or evaporation. I realized after I got it that the closed system will reduce moisture in the coop.

Cord plenty long. Bump/handle on lid may discourage birds from sitting. Handle shape keeps waterer centered (level). FYI there are only 3 ports (or whatever you call them). Had a couple of nights in low teens and it worked fine.

Chicks haven’t figured it out yet, but hopefully will. Not sure if floaters are working correctly. You have to tap the floater down for water.

Great product if your chickens are in a pen. You do not have to go into the pen and get poop on your shoes 🙂 Also, water stays fresh and they cant poop in it. (sorry about the poop) FYI. the cups are not made to stay full.

I made them full so the chickens would know where the water was. then they know to pluck at it to get fresh water. (I was expecting it to stay full and almost gave up on them until my neighbor, who swears by them told me this).

This is the 3rd one of these I’ve purchased. I use this in a bird bath which sometimes is almost dried out by the time I get home, so you would think it’s probably rough on the unit. I was talked in to buying another brand which only lasted one year (the term of the warranty) this is warranted for 3 years and that’s about how long they last.

I did have one last 5 years and another lasted 4, so that was pretty good. If anyone says it doesn’t work, they probably got a defective one, if they chose not to do anything about it, it’s not Farm Innovators fault.

I don’t give 5 stars overall rating because nothing is perfect so 4 stars is my best rating. This is a good product, worth the money.

Bought 1 a week ago. It does nothing. Barely gets warm. Keeps fresh water in poultry nipple bucket from freezing for a couple hours & no more. Still having to unthaw our water bucket 2-3 times a day & refill.

Nipples freeze way before the water does. Would not recommend this for here in Indiana or other Northern/Eastern States. Just does not do what it claims.

Rural King was great to order from. Efficient website, very fast processing and shipping. I bought this de icer for our water bucket with nipples for our chickens. It works perfectly. The nipples stay thawed so the chickens are still able to drink, even in freezing temperatures.

I’ve been raising Free Range Poultry for 15 years and have used every double walled fount and plastic drinkers from most manufacturers. I decided to try these out as I had never heard of Harris Farms and they look just like the Little Giant double wall founts that have been in use for generations.

I purchased three of them and have had them in continual use for about a year. I am pleased to share that they are not rusting “yet”. They fit well and I find the trough area to be plenty rigid. These are good for chickens of all breeds, sizes and ages.

Baby Chicks may be tempted to step IN the trough and “could” get caught, soaked and drown. Becuase of that, I suggest NOT using these for starter chicks. You could fill the trough with marbles to prevent little ones from falling in, but not suitable as is.

Metal founts like this one are necessary if you plan to sit your drinker on the galvanised heaters, the metal conducts the heat properly to keep water from freezing in winter. My only complaint about this style of drinker is that when you are filling it up, the small stopper that is attached to the spring clip does not prevent water from running out while filling before putting the top back over the base.

I did not take a star for that because I haven’t found a double wall found that does not have that problem. Remember that when it is full, you will be carrying 40 lbs. consider cleaning it out and putting it where you want it and filling it in place.

I think one 5 gl drinker like this is suitable for 12 adult chickens, but two are always better, chickens may guard or chase lower status birds away from food and water, having two drinkers can make sure all birds will get access.

I do recommend this drinker!.

Whereas, I love the capacity of this waterer, as it will hold enough water for my flock if I need to be away for a couple of days, I am very disappointed in the way that the handle is put on. The current process will not withstand the weight of a filled waterer and the handle came off after only a very short period of time of use, as in maybe 7-10 days at most.

I would like for the manufacturer to find a better process for the handle, and if they do, I would recommend this product fully. Until then, just beware of this major flaw.

I’ve had a hard time finding a chicken waterer in this size. They were either half this size or much larger. Purchased 3 of them to use with metal heater plates for winter since I was concerned the plastic ones could melt/warp.

Very easy to use. Sturdy construction, easy to twist the lid on and take off to fill, and SO much easier to keep clean. the chicken design added a nice touch. ;-).

Large mouth allows addition of ice for cooling water in summer. Gallon size is good for a day or two of water, deopending on number of birds. Gallon size is not too heavy for carrying. Plastic material is not as see-threw as some, but not as brittle as the clear plastic.

Plastic and screw very cheap. Fell apart 2nd time and dropped about 12 inches to the ground and cracked on the top, making it useless as the water just pours out now. Also no handle which makes it very awkward to use.

Much cheaper at local feed store and they have handles as well as more secure clips to keep tank on the bottom.

To stars for the idea. My chickens were much less likely to spill water from this (they did manage to flip it and spill it a couple of times). Also they can’t stand in it. However, this bucket is difficult to clean.

Leaves and dirt get in it and since top is not removable, the debris is difficult to remove. You waste water trying to remove debris by overflowing it with water. Then it rusted in less than a year. I see this company now has a plastic bucket version with removable lid.

However, the price seems high for the plastic one (Over $30). Someone needs to sale an affordable screw on waterer lid of similar design to put on a standard 5 gallon plastic bucket. Happy Hens nesting box conversion is about $15 so a waterer conversion should be no more than $15.

I bought the little giant 1 gallon bucket waterer for my skilled chickens to add dirt to the water bucket and waste the water. The chickens are not able to add the dirt and the water last all day instead of 2 hours which was normal.

I will be buying 1 more in the next month. I have game and regular size chickens the care for and the Little giant waterer is the answer.

This is the greatest chicken waterer. My girls can’t roost or sit on top. Clean water all the time. Easy to change or add water. Will order a second and maybe third.

Very simple and reliable waterer. Automatically fills with just the right amount so the birds don’t kick water all over. Snaps on cage easy and is very sturdy. I have tried most others and this type has worked best with no issues so far.

Water runs into the cup and win the cup gets for the cup drops down to shut the water flow off. The chickens get plenty to drink. Recommend having 3 to 4 cups in a coop so chickens will have plenty to drink out of.

Very easy to install. Never have to worry about your birds running out of water. very easy to clean

The integral handle makes it easy to carry. The automatic top up saves having to keep checking on the water level.

I bought 3 of these to raise my chicks this year. I would be happy with them until I checked on my chicks and they would be cracked, all the water having leaked out into the pine shavings. They would be great if they didn’t just break and leave the chicks with no water.

I have had several of these and they work well with the glass Mason jars. I set them on top of a 6×6 block of wood so they stay cleaner (the chicks don’t kick as much bedding into it that way). I set it in the corner of the cage/tote to stablilize it.

When they’re small, I add 2x chunks of lumber as steps in front of the 6×6, then as they grow, they don’t need the steps anymore. Just be sure when you’re screwing the base onto the jar that you don’t cross-thread it.

I’ll be picking up another one just to have an extra on hand. I love ’em!.

Probably would have gotten a hanging watetet-this one is nice because it fits with a small mouth mason jar but it’s gets dirty with chick crud pretty quickly.

I’ve used this product for years! I just ordered an additional one. It provides fresh water without any mess. Hangs right on the cage.

I love that I can fill it and seal it, then carry it to the chickens. Our ones before this were so hard to carry without getting water everywhere, & on your pants, as you slip in the mud or snow on the way to the chickens.

The little rubber seals on the metal ones never worked. The red and white ones you carry upside down & spill it down your front while trying to balance it, or right side up and it splashes out on your legs.

Then you have to fight the cord to put the bottom on and flip it over. None of that with this. Only thing with this one is the little screen doesn’t do much, but we never had anything like that on the old ones anyway.

The H-T-W works as expected. I have it set up in the corner of two indoor flypens. This allows both flocks of pigeons to drink from it. It has kept their water unfrozen in -0 degree temps as I live in Wisconsin.

I really like the water tank as it is easy to fill, carry and flip with little water spillage. The only negative is that the tray is too wide. This really allows too much liter and droppings to fall into it.

A narrow-er tray would prevent it. Fowl could still drink from it- so there is no need for such a wide tray.

FINALLY, a winter waterer that works! I tried ?em all. Galvanized waterers rusted (despite re-coating with anti-rust paint), the plastic containers with nipples were shunned by my birds – or they were too stupid to figure out how get a one drop of water at a time! Others just hard to fill.

This system is SO EASY, hasn?t failed once, and clever screening ring help me keep debris out of water tray without having to empty the whole system. This is ?the better mousetrap?!.
